HONG KONG - Hong Kong league side Kitchee stunned Serie A champions AC Milan on Sunday, handing the Italian team a 2-1 defeat in the first match of the East Asian tour.
Carlo Ancelloti's side were missing several stars due to their involvement with Euro 2004 but still featured some of their big names including Ukranian striker Andrei Shevchenko and former Italian national skipper Paolo Maldini.
After a scoreless first half at the Hong Kong Stadium, Shevechenko broke the deadlock two minutes into the second half as he headed home a cross by Serginho.
However, the home side hit back on 66 minutes when striker Rochi Putiray came off the bench to equalise for the Hong Kong league runners-up.
With 10 minutes remaining, Putiray struck again to give Kitchee an unlikely victory in a match to help raise funds for Hong Kong's United Christian Medical Service.
Milan's next match on their Asian tour will be held in Shanghai on Wednesday, June 2.
