Why does master leagueīs second division have only 8 teams? Is it understandable? Am i being picky? Do they think it makes the ML experience a richer,more rewarding one by doing so? Why Konami? Iīm asking this , because i intend to play the ML this version. I played it quite happily in W11 6, got annoyed in W11 6fe, almost pucked in W11 7, didnīt care afterwards...(health thing). Now i see there are new ideas for ML and for that reason iīm wanting ,once again,to play ML mode...Will i be once again disappointed? Who knows, right? Not until I PLAY THE GAME... not until MY EXPECTATIONS TURN INTO REALITY...because I KNOW they will...as always

i think it's good that the second division has only 8 teams because of that way the game is less boring, because the most boring part for me is the firsts games of the first season

on the 59th second, whre the division1,2 selection screen is, the word "Konami league" is written but in japanese, that word right on top of "Division 1" and below "EXIT". i hope we can change that. plus, at the bottom appears some japanese words in yellow, and in between appears the word "WE SHOP". i wonder what it has to do with the league..?

As for the video, looks fairly promising. A couple of things that worried me was firstly when it showed that Japanese player running down the line then he made some ridiculously fast/accurate cut back to a guy on the edge of the area, that looked awful.
Another really worrying point, did anyone see the bit where it showed a close up of a player shooting from the edge of the area? It looked like he was doing a hybrid of ballet/ju-jitsu - since when do players jump up in the air and do the splits when they take a shot for fuck sake?

Man thanx for the flags, its gonna take me awhile before i can figure if there is going to be any american team cuz thats my biggest concern, I'd like to see some argies and brazilians and mexicans but the picture doesnt help that much but its perfect after all... thanx a lot
Despite that i'm Dutch, I really hope the full Premiership will be featured in the game...Without the licences ofcourse, but you can edit it by yourself and then we have the top-3 leagues, and my favourite league, Holland (Because im Dutch).
I cant wait, I want the game now!!
I love the menu's, with the pictograms and such. Also I hope thet the music will be better, because that stupid techno-music hurt your ears.

I agree totally with Gary, please stop moaning, it looks great. The menu's, the licenses, the 136 teams, the referee on field, editing options, new passing system, it is all fantastic. If one little thing isnt exactly as you hoped for, its a pity but there are enough other nice things, and the gameplay will still be great.
So come on, stop posting negative things here!

I know it's a bit belated know but I finally downloaded the we8 video and I have to say I'm pretty optimistic. The graphics look like they've been tweaked a little and the new menu system is looking good.
Plus the editing looks to have been vastly improved, bring it on!
Cristiano, i dont talk only to you, and of course you can say anything you want, but I mean, please see the good points of the game, it is gonna be even better than PES 3. If one animation isn't realistic, well, then Konami have to work about it. But they have implanted a lot of new features. Be patient. Just wait till you play the game. It's gonna be great.
What a horrible Arsenal shirt by the way..... sorry for the arsenal fans around here....but I really don't like it.

In the WE Shop you can buy the league renaming thing and also what teams go in what division. That was in the last Famitsu mag.
Also the Roteiro is in, they haven't removed the licenses from the official WE8 page so I guess you can unlock that in the WE shop also.

Thanks T1000. Its good to have someone else with optimism and perspective! OK, some of us are going overboard about how good itll be, but thats down to past experience of products. People who are going way over-board with the negativity seem to totally lack objectivity. As I said, we all know it is going to be better, hopefully, but lets face it its unlikely to change the world. We knew that. If it is genuinely better than PES3, Ill be more than happy with it. Even if it had been PES3 with lots more teams and some licenses to be honest i would still have got it, most likely! But you know what im saying. It should at least be good enough.
I actually dont mind the new arsenal kit - havent seen the away one though. Anyone seen Southamptons away kits this season? I like the yellow one, not so sure about the light blue though.

Ive not actually had a WE, although Ive had all the PES's.
Can someone tell me - do they do much in between them apart from basically translate them? And maybe different teams? What can we expect to see in PES4 that isnt in WE8, and so on?

Well WE7 had 2 balls available. PES3 had one.
PES3 had 2 extra licensed teams than WE7.
PES3 had the "flick up" move, WE7 didn't.
Gameplay wise there is a difference but I cant really tell to be honest. I haven't actually sat down and played one after the other. Other people will be able to tell you the gameplay differences better than me :)

Well when we makes the transition to PES, there are usually a few tweaks. i've not played any we games, but most of time people seem to prefer we. I guess PES is aimed the European market, and for that i guess they try to tailor it a little to how we may see football, but like i said it usually seems to be a few tweaks for the worst. But all in all i guess there isnt that much difference. Just hoping they can acquire a few more licenses by in time for PES4.
Yeah, thats kind of what i was hoping youd say about the licenses. Odd how theyd tweak for the worst, though. I cant imagine how or why they'd do that. On the other hand I'd prefer licensed teams to 2 balls. I guess at the end of the day, I'm going to be getting PES4.. Although this is a dummy question, but will WE8 have an english option and is there a PC version being released? I flogged my PS2...

heres to clear things up for you:
WE7 - regular game
PES3 - European version, some upgrades some replacements
WE7i - international version, more than 1 language available in game, plus there might be some new changes and an update on roster and etc..

the US kind is just a name that it goes by because the konami of america didnt like the sound of WE7 so they added the international to it to make it sound good i guess. but its like the PEs3 version with minor changes too.

There's actually 3 or 4 version of WE7:I :) Japanese (best one with large improvements), US, Korean and Chinese too i believe.
basically the european version is a bit slower as i have found.
i play we7i but ehen i go to my friends i end up playing pes3. the defending in pro evo 3 is shit. it is too hard to defend. crosses are absoloutely shit in pro evo 3. the advantage rule is fucked in pes3. keepers are a little better in we7i. htere are a few new animations i wei. pes3 was an almost exact port of we7 but with the flick up move added. the passing was a little bit smoother but it was sloewr.

SO the general consensus is that it is quite likely to be the case that its worth, if you had to choose, getting winning 11 8 international japanese version instead of PES4, if the normal trends are folowed?

The defending on pes3 is not shit, especially when you play against a human opponant, i'm pretty damn good at it, games usually finish with just a couple goals. If you know your marking and positional play in defense and of course you have a good set of defenders it is possible to defend well on pes3, I can do it, so with a little practise anyone else can too. Crossing is also not too bad, if you get in a good cross, crossing is usually about timing and weight of the cross and a few other factors like players heading stats etc, so don't believe it when people tell you pes3 is a load of shit, cos its quite good, the only real downer is that it suffers from AI problem, apart from that I'm lovin PES3 still.
edit: oh yeah, i guess so, when he means editing uniforms, you could probably edit the whole kit how yuo want then? or atleast parts of it? but it will be great if the editor was less linear, meaning you get more control over what you want on the kit!!

PES is aimed at euro market right? therefore, PES always had crossing, headers, and shooting better, while WE always had dribbling better. thats how it always was. duno if they will continue doin this
But WE has always been the better game.
well to me WE is better too, coz i prefer better dribbling ;) even though i do miss crossing and headers sometimes so i switch to PES :p

I think konami will deliver i was real skeptical and kinda still am(Big UP Cristiano!) until i saw the full vid today. it might be a side angle but it already shows how much better the game looks anyways. I mean even if the gameplay stayed the same,minus adding some new moves and a few more realistic animations the amount of polish these graphics have gone though is amazing. the players/crowd and staduim all look more detailed and smoother now.

No you can't edit hardly anything of licensed teams but for the un-licensed teams it would be amazing i.e. epl. I'm trying not to get too excited about the possibility of a sponsor editor but it's the one thing i've hoped for all along.

the video is OK but the back heel/flick is amazing really realistic.

but how can we really edit sponsors? u think they would really let us edit sponsorships of licensed teams after all the crap they went through to get them? i hope we can create teams and ADD sponsors to them though.
That what I meant, not to edit sponsors, but an editor to CREATE sponsors for the kits that are unlicensed. It doesnt even have to be a sponsor editor as such, just something that lets you design the centre area of the shirt, call it what you like, technicalities permitting if we had some kind of "improved kit editor" if you like, that lets you work on the shirt as well as the badge, I don't see why that cant be done. Anyways, let's wait and see, just a little excited at the prospect, maybe its in, maybe not.
The vid, yeah that flick looks class, but i think they overdone the passing a bit, should have banged it in after the flick to be honest, but its lookin good.

nah mate i aint japanese. i just learned some japanese letters coz i used to play japanese games since i was 10, and i used to have a japanese-english dictionary to help me understand some of the stuff. and thats how i can translate some of the stuff :) but when they speak, i cant understand shit. lol

According to play.com the PC version will be released on 12/11/2004 and will retail on Play.com for Ģ17.99 and its again going to be on DVD not CD. Theres nothing on online play or any other news that is pc specific. Anyways nothing more to add.

As for the video, looks fairly promising. A couple of things that worried me was firstly when it showed that Japanese player running down the line then he made some ridiculously fast/accurate cut back to a guy on the edge of the area, that looked awful.
Another really worrying point, did anyone see the bit where it showed a close up of a player shooting from the edge of the area? It looked like he was doing a hybrid of ballet/ju-jitsu - since when do players jump up in the air and do the splits when they take a shot for fuck sake?
Itīs a special shooting move that Konami has discovered watching kindergarten football... or maybe not :rolleyes: I know: itīs awful, isnīt it?Konami style, no doubt :p

whoops, anyway just want to say that back heel vid in my opinion looks bad, i dont want to bad mouth WE8 because no one has played the game yet, but it just looks dissapointing, and i can't not say anything anymore. I played pes1 the other day and the control (response time) and graphics are just subpar compared to what we are now use to. But, its still one hell of a game, i think i like it more than pes3. The animations were much more appropriate, what i mean is, the game had the right speed, the headers were wonderful, passes crisp, the through pass was great and actually opened up space as it was played with decent pace in front of the player, and the shooting was situation appropriate, meaning there were a TON of INSIDE OF THE FOOT SHOTS, were a player would place the ball. In the new vid, the player does that damn outside of the foot shot animation from pes3, and i hate it. Konami even said they put more outside of the foot shots into WE8. I know players use the outside of their foot but not nearly as often as the inside of the foot. I just look at pes1 and i wonder where the series could be in terms of control and realism and i dont think its there yet. PES and WE are by far the best football games of all time, i just hope WE8 is a proper sequel, something we all deserve.

How can you disagree with me. Look at the video with them doing back flicks etc...and the final shot, it looks more and more like Fifa every time I look at it. The passing animations look terrible, watch a video of a real match, with players making a few passes, then look at that video.
I think we could be in for a real let down, and you'll all regret not being cautiously optimistic like I am.

Cristiano you forget one thing, people who say itīs going to be great donīt say that because of the little movies or screens but because of their experience. You canīt rate anything after youīve watched a small video, which was, in addition, made on 1 star difficulty. And donīt start again with offending everyone who disagrees with you or Iīll warn you. If you played this game for years, like many people here, you would know that it always looked shite in the vids, and quite different when you played it yourself. You have to feel the gameplay. Even if thereīs a great gameplay the movie can be spoiled when a newbie plays. And then you will be saying "ey man what a crap", and we will say "wait, itīs going to be great, itīs always that way", and then youīll be shouting "Hypocrits", and then the game is released and itīs great and you look dumb because you didnīt want to listed to the guys who know how it works.
So relax and prepare to play the greatest footie game on earth in 2 weeks. :cool:

I really don't understand what you want from this game. PES3 was the best soccersim ever, and I surely believe that they have improved PES4 compared to PES3. Ofcourse the game will has it flaws, but this game will be the closest you'll get to real football. And for the defending of the CPU in PES3? It really depends on how you play and who you are playing against. Just like in real football. Thought you liked real football ;) .

I don't think konami "can't be bothered" implementing what you ask for, its just that its impossible for them to do it, especially as they are now the benchmark so they can't copy off anyone else. The improvements are obvious to me when I watch the movies as I'm sure they are to you, you are just being pessimistic and quite offensive to the god-like programmers at Konami. I'll tell you what you go join the PES development team and tell them what you expect to be implemented in pes4 with their resources, time scale and technology and I'll think you'll walk out with a broken nose.

look you cant tell anything about the defending from these vids, its just to show case goals/graphics and such not the tecnicals of the game, seeing as though you are going to be adviser to konami, you should have known that right? :D :rolleyes:

To play WE8 on a PAL (European) PS2 it needs to be chipped. You can go to the better gameshops.... The messiah chip is one of the best so I've heard...

It's good that pompey are gonna be in it cos that should mean that the likes of bolton, boro, southampton, birmingham, charlton should all be there too.
The kit editor looks to be a bit improved too. 3 colours on the captain's armband is cool. Also there's evidence of pink which we didn't have on pes3.

Won't this mean we can either have a regular badge or a big one in the middle of the kit acting as a sponsor. Still, all sounds great to me.
Not sure how easy its going to be to make some of the sponsors! I mean, Arsenals will be easy of course. Villas should be easy. P*rtsmouths should be easy nough too.. but some are just going to be approximations at best, like SOuthamptons. Still, a sponsor editor would make it pretty ace.
I think Konami should try to sue the FA, saying they're not promoting fair competition amongst companies, and encouraging and aiding the monopolisation of this genre of game which EA have had for so long, for financial gain. GRRRRR Just GIVE Konami the licenses for the good of the people, you bastards!

the nets need to be able to stop the ball, i hate that it constantly bounces out of the net after a goal, it just doesnt feel right to me. It just u want to see the ball in the back of the net when you score.
Am i making a big fuss out of a little thing?

Yeah cos in real life the ball does come out of the goal sometimes. It's not like it happens with every goal in pes or anything. I think it's fine as it is.

just saw the videos, cool stuff. i like the one where totti is about to cross the the ball. i think thats a new animation. it look like he was speeding up just a little to get to the ball and cross it quickly. it look like what most wingers do in real life too. tight. :D :cool:

The movement of the palyers looks the same as WE7. I am expecting WE9 to be completely different like WE7 was to WE6, like the AI was completely differnet

i think around feb or march like WE6 and WE7. it usually takes the USA version a bit longer since it will wait for the PES4 to alter the stuff and release it in America. im from the states too and waiting for the US version but at the mean time im going to but the Jap one for patching and stuff.
In some ways I wish I hadn't sold my PS2 now! As it is Im going to have to wait til PES4 gets released on PC, Grr... Ah well, at least I will actually be able to affiord to get my new machine built if I'm not buying PES4.. my current one wouldn't run PES3 i think, let alone 4...
Overall - I am very optimistic, because even if it isn't a light-year ahead of the last, as I've said before if it keeps getting better little by little, then its no bad thing - its still getting better - and if it's even better than PES3 I'll be happy. I mean.. I do hope hey totally overhaul everything maybe next time round, but getting some more things right now is fine, like the menus, kits and so on.
Provided they keep the gameplay as good, or slightly better, than the only other things I could wish for aren't as important. Id like to see a few increases in graphics, but it looks like thats happening now. And the licenses is a step in the right direction. Commentary i hope is better also. If they get the premiership in for PES4, I will be over-joyed, completely. And the correct rosters at time of release would be good. Sure, I have a few other niggles about litte things like editing options (team registrations etc), nets, stupid big flags which really should go, they look very 1990's to be honest.. i turn them off.. anyone else hate them? Anyone else think theyre totally unrealisitc, those waved ones in particular? And even the symettrical big flat ones on the crowd? That doesnt happen quite like that anywhere. OK, you always get flares at Italian games, but.. not most other games. I think theyd make it look a whole lot better by getting rid of all that - the personalied banners, boards etc for the teams (or so it seems to be) more than makes up for it.
Has anyone else noticed, particularly in that Chelsea video where Crespo scores, that the crowd seems to react to the goal? on the other hand, they're on their feet a bit before that too, so maybe its just cycles and a coincidence? I'm not too fussed about making the crowd super realistic, but making their animations react to goals and stuff would be easy to do, wouldnt be taxing for the game and would just be another thing that makes it all a bit better.
But hey. Its gonna be good, Im pretty sure.

It wouldnt be like Konami to put any effort into the crowd - so it probably was a coninsidence. 2 of the greatest thrills when scoring a goal, in gaming and in real life is the roar of the crowd, and the bustling of the ball in the back of the net, neither of those 2 things exist in we8 which is why scoring doesn't give you delight factor it should do. Its these niggling things that they neglect and the game suffers from it....
To be honest, Cristiano, I dont agree about the net. It IS a flaw, but I really dont see it as a major one. Sometimes it does work realistically enough, and also getting the net physics correct is not as easy as correcting the crowd - you know? It would be nice to see all the niggles changed, but its a mtter of effort versus result. The crowd WOULD be easy to make look and sound better. Thats my point, and it would make a big difference. I WOULD like custom chants in this though - I hope we can edit them.. It would be GREAT to go down St Marys, record "Oh when the saints" song and put it on Southampton.. Who, yes, are my team. I'd love that... I suppose getting one to play specifically when playing Portsmouth would be too much to ask, haha.. Either the classic "pompey scum" song or "Fuck off mandaric" would be nice. Or to other teams.. "Are you porstmouth in disgiuse".. haha
Personally I think the best thrill in scoring is the scoring itself. I DO get delight from scoring an important goal, or one against a mate, or a total scorcher or a well worked one. I think thats where most people get the thrill from, which is why the other issues are niggles in comaprison

crowd effects are cool, but its not neccessary because what you really want to hear are chants and songs. it would be great but not neccessary. seeing posters and signs is alright too.
dont really care much bout the nets. Chants r great, they just make my game great! i get powered up and attack more hehe.
It would be better to have a really good roar when a goal goes in or a bigger "just-missed" kind of noise.. you know.. when the crowd gets more excited around the box, and also when the team is down, and then ALMOST goes wild when someone hits the bar.. that real kind of "aawwwwwwww" you get.
yea... and at the end of season, when its the deciding match, u win, and the crowd just jumps over to the pitch and they all run and cover the whole damn pitch and carry the players around!! lol what a dream

i'd personally love to see (hear :D) new chant reaction sounds. Atomsphere is a big part of football and it would be a great suprise if they've tweaked around with the crowd sounds for pes4.
On another point.... does anyone know if they've taken out that conferdence bar thing (at the bottom), i must say its one of the features in pes3 i never pay attention to lol

I've just been watching the videos again and in the first vid (the 2mins long one) when you see the menu, on the edit bit the picture has a pencil drawing something on the centre of the shirt. why would they have this to represent the editing if you couldn't actually do it? God I'm hoping for a sponsor editor.
Mafia. i bought it and barely played the game. i think i will start goin back to it too, oh no lol i just remembered i bought silent hill 4 and spidy. They should keep me occupied til we8 is out :D
Mafia is crap on the box or PS2, you should play the PC version, itīs fantastic. But enough offtopic :D

Unfortunately I think that might just be the badge in the pic on the right. The only thing new in the left pic is that you can have 3colours for the captain's armband.
