Man, Moro is sure doing himself good before before the main season kicks off. I say he will definetly get games during the season this time round cos he is one of the top strikers in Europe.

I hope Samuel is intergrating into the time well as I say we could need him through the season alright as it looks like Perez could not get another central defender. Although Camacho is demanding one and at last he has some authority unlike that fool Quieroz so Camacho could be the key to getting another class one.

I think if Real Madrid get Viera then they will be a good team this season. Still not sure about the defence. Samuel was a good signing but i think if his partner is Pavon again Real will fail miserably! again!!

I think that if they use Helguera back there they will do well. Samuel and him work well together. The midfield can be convered well. They will do well this season.

Camacho tested out a lot of players, making many changes in the line of second half. The Helguera, Samuel partnership in the center worked well. Guti and Beckham gave many passes and worked the midfield well. Camacho was very happy with the preformance.

Eh, I like him and all, but I think we had a good team going with the Beckham Guti partnership in the midfield. Guti lost his spot last season to Beckham but now that Helguera is in the defence, Guti can play. Viera should bring some more defensive play which could be neeeded, but I was looking more for someone to play in the back line. :)

News On Zidane's Condition

Zidane trained with the team today, and seemed to be ok. After the game against Gafete Camacho had a training session, Casillas, Salgado, Samuel, Pavón, Roberto Carlos, Helguera, Guti, Beckham, Solari, Raúl and Ronaldo took the training session lightly and was let go and hour early. César, Miñambres, Núñez, Celades, Zidane, Diego López, Figo, Morientes, Raúl Bravo and Mejía trained the normal amount.

Zidane will get the ok sign from the Real Madrid doctors in the upcoming days to whether he will be playing or not.

Real Madrid B -

Real Madrid B got it's second defeat of the preseason by Alicante - 1-0. Lopez's men's tries could not make it into the back of the net, they did come up on goal a few times but missed, but Alicante's Sendoa made the only goal of the match. Even though they were on home field advantage (the same one where the first team went up against Getafe) it was not in their favor for the madridistas.

Real Madrid B was left without Cobeño; Palencia, Walls, Angelo, Sergio; Oaks, Adrián, Javi Garci'a, Barral; Jurado and Alex Perez.

The conclusion of the encounter, Lopez Caro was satisfied with the work made: "In spite of the defeat, the men have shown desire and I cannot reproach anything to them. We will be improving, surely ". The madridista technician valued what Alicante did.

Iker Casillas in goal.

Back four of Salgado, Carlos, Samuel and Helguera.

One defensive midfielder in Vieira.

Attacking midfield of Raul in the centre, Figo on the right wing, and Zidane playing on the left.

An alternative is to play Raul as a left winger, as to allow Zidane his favourite spot "in the hole", but not sure whether he is suitable there.

Raul shouldn't be the front two because he's not a "predator" like Ronaldo and Morientes are. He's only got 11 league goals and 2 Champions League goals last season.

So a forward strikeforce of two predators, Morientes and Ronaldo.

Thier B team is quite good, they have Mejia coming up to play and a few other players. I like the lineup, but what do you think the line up will be with out Viera?

Casillas
Salgado, Samuel, Helguera, Carlos
Guti- Defensive mid
Raul- Center
Zidane- Right mid
Figo- Left
Morientes, and Ronaldo up top.

But I think that they will end up rotating the strikers around, and putting Beckham on in the middle like he was been playing, and Zidane and Figo on the wings. Atleast that is what it looked like against Benefica.

Pires Speaks Out

Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires has moved to refute reports that have quoted him as saying team mate Patrick Vieira has ''made his choice'' and would ''leave a huge void''.

The talented France international was reported in a Scottish newspaper as being resigned to Vieira's departure to La Liga giants Real Madrid.

With Arsene Wenger having now placed a deadline of Saturday for the summer's longest transfer saga to come to an end, the truth behind the rumours should come out over the weekend.

However, Pires is keen to reiterate that he has done nothing to add further fuel to the fire currently surrounding Vieira's future.

''I have never given an interview to a Scottish newspaper,'' Pires told the club's official website.

''I am really furious when I read words that are put in my mouth.

''I have never said a word about Patrick's situation, I have too much respect for him to give my opinion.

''As far as I know Patrick hasn't signed for Real Madrid and I really hope, as do my team mates, that he stays with Arsenal.''

Highway Penguin

Morientes has taken 8. He tried 4 for a while, but I think he landed on 8.

Flavio was on loan to Borussia Dortmund for a season, and then they had an option to buy him, but from what I read I think they passed up on it. So he ended up going to Galatasaray Istanbul a Turkish club. :)

Ruben has been loaned out again to Albacete.

You seem to know a bit about Real Madrid.

Sure do I support Real Madrid as well.

I hope Morientes would take 11, hoping 8 would go to a midfielder.

Clubs like to loan out players as an excuse for giving their shirt number to another player, like loaning out Morientes so Ronaldo could take number 9 and sell more shirts.

This season, Ruben (4), Borja (8) and Portillo (11) have all been "loaned out", perhaps making way for the arrivals of Samuel, Vieira and Morienes.

I actually really wish Samuel had taken 4, so Vieira would take 8, 11 for Morientes, and they would have their numbers 1-11 in their first choice line-up (Don't think of Sven).

1 - Casillas
2 - M.Salgado
3 - R.Carlos
4 - Samuel
5 - Zidane
6 - I.Helguera
7 - Raul
8 - Vieira
9 - Ronaldo
10 - Figo
11 - Morientes

Doesn't that look kinda cool for a starting 11???

No funny numbers like 23.

By the way your previous post said who should be DM if Vieira didn't come,

I guess first choice should be Guti, then Beckham.

The best is Helguera, but then the central defence would be left with R.Bravo, Pavon or Mejia.

Solari should fit in their as well, having played as side-back and winger.

I have a feeling Real Madrid are overconfident in getting Vieira.

Look, they've already gotten rid of Flavio Conceicao, Borja and Cambiasso, three essential defensive midfielders.

And of course Makelele was the biggest mistake.

Real signed another youngster aswell Felipe Reyes who has recieved the No. 14 jersey for this season.

Where has Guti disappeard to then???

Who is this Cracovia???? Where does he play???? Who does he play with???? Is he any Good????

Real signed another youngster aswell Felipe Reyes who has recieved the No. 14 jersey for this season.

Yes, Real Madrid really signed Felipe Reyes, but he's a basketball player :D So Guti still has his number 14

Their strongest line-up:

***Staring 11***

_________Casillas_________

__M.Salgado__Samuel__I.Helguer a__R.Carlos__

__________Vieira__________

_____Figo____Raul____Zidane___

____Ronaldo_____Morientes___

***Substitutes***

Cesar
Guti
R.Bravo
Solari
Pavon
Beckham
Borja

What are your opinions?

Becks on the bench ??? Last season he played very good...

I think that they will be fine with out having to bring in another big or semi-big name next season when Figo leaves. IF Beckham and Solari stay then they will have enough wing power. :) Sounds kinda odd.
They also have Nunez. I am betting that in a few years he is going to do quite well. He got a few games in during the preseason and didn't look to bad in the game I watched.

I really think that Real need a DMF cause thier defense is still weak. Guti can attack aswell so that is a plus, he doesn't always have to defend. If Viera doesn't go to Real it won't be a huge shock because there are so many different people saying different things. And personally I think we will get by without him. Just another name for Perez.

Morientes should have taken 11 I agree. I wonder why he didn't. He would be able to choose from any free number. I bet.

Helguera should be back in defence, Pavon is his replacement when he plays in the midfield, but he is too weak and needs more time to become a more able defender. With Samuel back there, he should learn very quickly.

Call for Cracovia commet-
Wisla Cracovia is the full name. It is the next team they play. For the Champions League. I did a little review thing on it in an earlier post. ;)

Transfer News
Samuel Eto'o is believe to be going to Barca, after they put in a bid of €21 million and gave Real a week to counter offer, but in not doing so they left Mallorca the option of selling him or not. He is owned half by Mallorca and half by Real, to keep the African Star at Mallorca they needed to put up a bid of half of anyones bid. It should be interesting to see how it all works out.

Maybe he wants to squeeze in between Raul and Ronaldo.

Defender Definetely! I am not a big fan of Helguera at all i think he is very unreliable and leaks to many goals. Samuel is a very good player. They should maybe consider getting Samuel's defence partner at Roma Chivu. He is a really good player, Romanian Internationalist and a very solid defender, he would be a good signing.

Also i think Real Madrid wasting money on Owen is mind boggling. They have 3 world class strikers why buy another who is quite inconsistent. If i were Real Madrid i would forget signing Owen and make sure they get Viera.

Real Madrid have denied that they are interested in signing Michael Owen from Liverpool, insisting Patrick Vieira is their top transfer target.

It had been widely reported in England that Real, as well as arch rivals Barcelona, were planning a shock swoop for the England marksman after talks over a new contract at Anfield stalled.

Owen has only one year left on his current deal and, like Steve McManaman previously, Liverpool face the prospect of losing him for nothing in 12 months' time.

However, Real assistant sporting director Emilio Butragueno has declared Los Merengues are focusing all their efforts on landing Vieira from Arsenal, and have not made enquiries for Owen.

"Only Vieira interests us at the moment," Butragueno declared.

Ya, if they did end up signing him, Morientes would be benched or loaned out. Just cause they are so careless about good players. Hopefully Poritillo will come back in good form and be able to compete for a spot of take over a spot when one of the retires.
Coloccini? You know that guy with the afro thing? I wanted him to sign. He played well in Copa America. I also wanted them to sign Milito last year but something about his medical condition stopped them.
You don't like Helguera?

Mate if you say "Wisla Cracovia" to a Wisla fan he´ll kill you, and I´m not joking. I know that Cracovia is the Italian (?) name of the city, but it´s also a club from Krakow, which is a big rival of Wisla. 10 murders there in the last 5 years with fan-rivalry background.
But back to the football, I think it´s going to be a draw in Krakow, maybe a one goal victory by Real, I predict a 1-2, and then an relaxed 2-0 in Madrid.

Highway Penguin

Probably Cracovia is the Spanish name for Krakow, that´s why Real Madrid´s site says Cracovia ;)

Updates

Samuel is tring to convince people that he will be able to play along next to Pavón in center defense, while Helguera-Beckham try to convince people they are able to do it in the midfield paired in the axis. Camacho has a few tricks up his sleeve.: Guti. ` 14' has acted in three different positions during the preseason, and he is a key piece during the exercise. With Zidane doing most of the magic - the unforgettable goal in Japan and Figo driving the defense on the other team mad, the technician breathes calm - both recovered -. In addition, Ronaldo and Morientes have the power to point and shoot on goal. Raul returns to be the "man". There is a month left til La Liga starts, but this new Madrid presents/displays constants that will shock Europe.

Question? Does Real squad look promising for the upcoming season? What is your line up?

Michael Owen's Liverpool future has been plunged further into doubt after he was an unused substitute in the club's UEFA Champions League qualifier.

"Owen has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid after his contract talks at Anfield reportedly broke down.

It was then suggested that the England number ten would have to be left out of the Liverpool line-up for their Champions League match with AZ Graz on Tuesday, to avoid him being cup-tied for any potential suitors.

His inclusion in Austria would have meant that his price tag would come tumbling down as Real, or Barcelona, would not want to splash out on a player who could not play in Europe's premier competition.

Rafa Benitez was playing his cards close to his chest before the match, but as soon as the team sheet was released the intense speculation over Owen's future moved up a gear.

Owen hardly moved from his spot on the bench and did not even warm up to give the merest hint that he would be used at any point in the match.

Liverpool eased to a 2-0 win so, if Benitez was resting his star striker for the start of the Premiership season, he was never needed - but that will not stop the speculation.

Even two-goal hero Steven Gerrard could not shed any light on Owen's situation and the skipper was unable to calm worried Reds fans over their fears of the striker's departure.

"I'm sure there will be one or two more new faces coming in and maybe one or two going out as well," Gerrard told Channel Five after the match.

"I'm not sure really what's going to happen with Michael. No-one has said anything to me so we will have to wait and see.

"Michael hasn't said anything to me."

Benitez was still remaining tight-lipped about the prospect of Owen leaving Anfield, and insisted his decision to leave him on the bench was not due to an impending move.

"When I decided the 11 players that start it is because I have confidence in those players," said Benitez.

"We have four good forwards here and tonight I played two of them - that is it."

Owen's situation should be clearer before the start of the season as Benitez will not want all the speculation distracting his side before the big kick-off against Tottenham on Saturday."

Hey Figo what do you think about the Owen situation?

Zidane expected to quit
"Real Madrid's midfield magician Zinedine Zidane will announce a final decision on his international future on Thursday.

The elegant France superstar could retire from Les Bleus after the disappointment of the favourites' exit from Euro 2004 at the hands of eventual winners Greece.

With several of his long-established international colleagues also deciding to hang up their boots at that level, including Lilian Thuram and Bixente Lizarazu, the man who did so much to bring the 1998 World Cup to France is expected to follow suit.

The Canal+ television channel has an exclusive interview with the 32-year-old which will broadcast his decision in the evening.

It is understood that 'Zizou', who has won 93 caps, will retire - leaving new coach Raymond Domenech with a major selection headache ahead of his squad announcement for the match with Bosnia & Herzegovina.

The question for Domenech, who replaced Jacques Santini, is how will he replace the irreplaceable?

A new breed of quality Frenchmen are waiting for the chance to grasp their opportunity, however, at international level."

Kuip club's Real bid fails

"Feyenoord have failed with a bid to sign talented Real Madrid defender Oscar Minambres. Minambres has slipped down the pecking order at El Santiago Bernabeu, having featured regularly in the 2002/2003 season, and was being lined up for a move to Holland.

The Kuip club had made contact with Real to enquire into the possibility of signing the 23-year-old, but were unsuccessful in their attempts to secure the stopper's signature.

Minambres, who is contracted to Los Merengues until the summer of 2005, will hope to stake a claim for a place in Jose Antonio Camacho's regime after overcoming a foot injury."

They were bidding on him at the beginning of the season, but then stopped for some reason. LIverpool basically has him now. Unless Real decide to change their mind, it looks doubtfull. I'd like them to invest in a young mid. That way when Figo or Zidane leaves next season then they have a back-up. Solari is there as well. Which is good.

Real should play Ronaldo and Morientes together and give Raul some time to get his act together. I'm a very big fan of Raul and i hate how he just can't find some form at the moment. No. Ronaldo came in the summer of 2002. In the 02/03 season Ronaldo and Raul were on fire. Banging in goals from everywhere. They looked a dream partnership at that time. But Raul deteriorated in the 03/04 (last season) and he did not perform well in Euro 2004 either. But im sure he will pull through this year and again show the whole world that he is the great player we all know he can be.

Great win for Real and Morientes.

I think Morientes might be better playing from the bench, some players score when they are brought into the game from the bench.

And I think the rumours about Owen to Real are just ways to unsettle Liverpool, see how they didn't dare to use him in CL qualifier?

Once someone is linked with Real Madrid they beome unsettled.

Once there were rumours Real are interested in Ljungberg, he said, "I love Arsenal but I can't guarantee I won't be going to Real Madrid."

The club plan to officially unveil Eto'o at 19.00 at the Nou Camp.

PS- Little article....

Real Madrid are reported to have agreed a deal to sign Liverpool striker Michael Owen, while Patrick Vieira's proposed move to the Spanish capital has stalled.
Spanish sources claim that Real have all but tied up a deal for England international Michael Owen after talks between all parties.

It is thought that Real have agreed a fee of €12 million (£8 million) plus one or possibly two players from the Spanish giants in exchange.

Midfield duo Juanfran and Antonio Nunez are thought to be the players in question that could move to Anfield in the opposite direction.

Liverpool could receive additional payments for Owen depending on Real's success in the future.

Highly-respected Spanish newspaper AS claims that Owen could be presented as early as Friday or Saturday by Real.

News of Owen's possible move to Real emerged on Tuesday after talks over a new deal with Liverpool broke down.

The speculation intensified after he was an unused substitute in the club's UEFA Champions League qualifier with Grazer AK as Liverpool did not want to have him cup-tied fearing it would seriously reduce his price-tag.

It appears that Liverpool have now conceded defeat in keeping Owen at Anfield and despite the relatively low fee Madrid have offered they accepted rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer when his contract expires.

Owen will join up with England team-mate David Beckham at El Santiago Bernabeu, but it appears they will not be joined by Vieira.

Real's attempts to bring the Frenchman to the Spanish capital appear to have floundered over Arsenal hiking up the price for the player and Vieira's wage demands.

Vieira is believed to be seeking personal terms similar to the other top stars at Real, while the club are not willing to meet his demands.

The Gunners skipper has been Real's top summer target, but now it looks as if they are losing patience and that Vieira will remain with Arsenal.

Reports indicate that Vieira may even sign a new deal at Highbury, while Real could try and hijack Liverpool's bid for Xabi Alonso as they search for an alternative to the Frenchman.

Michael Owen is already a Real Madrid player

http://www.realmadrid.com/web_realmadrid/mmedia/000/000/043/471.jpg

14/08/2004
Real Madrid already has a new star. International English player Michael Owen has been presented as new Real Madrid player. He has signed a contract binding him to the white team for four seasons. Owen voiced his enthusiasm about this new professional phase of his at the presentation. The forward was glad to wear historical number 11 of the “best team in the world”. Florentino Pérez voiced his satisfaction for having signed a footballer that “fits perfectly into the Real Madrid style both for the way he plays and his extraordinary behaviour”. Following his presentation, Owen stepped on the Bernabéu pitch for the first time wearing the Club’s shirt.
The new Real Madrid player arrived at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium at 12:10. He was in the company of his wife, parents and personal assistant. One hour later he was signing the contract binding him to Real Madrid for the next four seasons. President Florentino Pérez welcomed him and wished him the best luck in this new professional phase that has just began for him.
Both the new player and his companions were given some presents before they headed for the honorary box, where the media were waiting to take the pictures of this historic presentation.
http://www.realmadrid.com/web_realmadrid/mmedia/000/000/043/473.jpg
FLORENTINO PÉREZ: “HE FITS PERFECTLY INTO OUR STYLE”
Florentino Pérez, joint by Alfredo di Stéfano and some members of his Board of Directors, made the presentation of the new Real Madrid players before the media.
http://www.realmadrid.com/web_realmadrid/mmedia/000/000/043/477.jpg
“It is always a very delightful moment to open our doors to a new player, tell him about our history, about what we are and what it is to wear the white shirt”, said the president first of all. Then he remarked that “the signing of Owen is a way of keeping up to our history and tradition. Michael is an excellent player, which proves we keep on betting on talent and big-name football”.

Apart from that, “we are not only signing him because he is one of the youngest players that have won the Golden Ball. He is also now with us because he had dreamt and wanted to play in our club. He wanted to wear this shirt and take on this exciting challenge of playing in Real, with all the great players that make up this legend team”.
http://www.realmadrid.com/web_realmadrid/mmedia/000/000/043/495.jpg
Florentino Pérez insisted that the signing of Michael Owen “fits perfectly into the Real Madrid style, both for the way he plays and his extraordinary behaviour on the pitch”. Real Madrid president concluded his speech saying, “we are all part of a family in which the usual thing is to win and give a good football show, but our habit is also about setting good examples, that’s why we are always after perfection on and off the pitch”.

Now addressing the player, Mr. Pérez said: “Michael in the name of the fans I thank you for the decision you have made. I am sure we are going to enjoy your play and you will be part of the fantastic history of our club”. The international English player got the shirt number 11, which was handed by his most admired Di Stéfano. The Honorary President also wished him the best of lucks in this new phase of his, “This number has a lot of history behind it, I am sure it will suit you”.
http://www.realmadrid.com/web_realmadrid/mmedia/000/000/043/497.jpg
OWEN: “I AM IN THE BEST TEAM IN THE WORLD”
Owen used a very good Spanish to say his first words as new Real Madrid player: “Buenos días a todos”, he said very shyly. The audience’s answer to this effort he made was a very fond applause. Then in English, he said, “my father has always talked to me about Real Madrid in the seventies, he used to talk about Di Stéfano, Puskas. They were fantastic. He also talked to me about Gento, the fastest ‘11’ on a football pitch ever.

I am very proud to be part of Real Madrid. I would like to thank everybody for the great welcome I got here in Madrid. Now I will be going to England for a few days and will be back here on Thursday. I have had some very nice time here these days and I would like to thank the president very particularly because he has given me the chance to play in the best team in the world”.

Owen concluded his speech in Spanish again, “Muchas gracias a todos”. Then he stepped on the pitch, where he posed before the media wearing his new kit. Hundreds of fans on the stands gave the English player the warmest welcome and Owen answered waving and smiling at them all the time. He looked very happy at having just started a new phase as Real Madrid player”.

I think Ronaldo or Morientes will leve Real soon, because they need to have a place for Owen, he is world class and him and Beckham will click hopefully and Personally I think Morientes should leave, maybe go to the EPL. I think Owen in top form is better than Morientes, and Owen's confidence had just been lacking because of the missed penalities. Missed penalities will ruin your confidence just like they did to becks, but now it's a fresh start for Owen, and he should get back into top form. ;)

Real drop Raul? Are you kidding me? Dropping him would be stupid. Morientes worse then Owen? It could be personal but I think that Morientes will do much better than Owen this season. Owen isn't gonna be in the grove of Spanish football for a while. Unless he is really fast at getting to know the players around him it is gonna take him a few months.

Ronaldo could leave, just because I think he wants more. He seems like the kinda guy that wants everything. You know?

Maybe with Arsenal for Vieira next season, after a good season.

I think Owen is just a player coming in for Perez to fulfil his promise of a galatico this season.

He might be panicking he couldn't find one easily (think of Vieira) so he took the easy way out.

Anyway line-up for 2nd leg:

Casillas

M.Salgado I.Helguera Samuel R.Carlos

Morientes Owen

Real Madrid B VS Osasuna

http://www.realmadrid.com/web_realmadrid/mmedia/000/000/038/990.jpg

Real Madrid B could not beat Osasuna (3-1), but the men of Lopez Caro showed a good image in second half, when they lost their nerves as well as the respect to the Navarros. In the first half, the performance of Elía was oustanding, he avoided the targets harvested from Real. The osasunista Webó was the great star of the game.

The experience and the difference of category weighed in excess to Real Madrid in first half. Osasuna with the first goal in six minutes thanks to the mobility of Webó, that took advantage of a defensive error to cause a penalty that would mean 2-0.

The scenery of the party changed in second half. Real Madrid felt a bit more comfortable coming into the second half, and getting some shots off. The whites were on the prowl for a goal past Elia. They continued playing with a good flow and it finaly paid off when Diego Leon sealed a more than deserved goal.

Line Ups -

OSASUNA: Elía; Expósito, Cuéllar, Herreros, Clavero; David López (Ortiz, 58’), Puñal (Muñoz, 46’), Pablo García, Delporte; Iván Rosado y Webó (Morales, 74’).

REAL MADRID B: Codina; Arbeloa, Angelo, Dani Hedrera (Palencia, 46’), Paredes; Juanfran (Duque, 75’), Jota (Robles, 75’), De la Red (Javi García, 63’), Alex Pérez (A.Martín, 46’); Barral (Arroyo, 73’) y Jurado (Diego León, 75’).

Goals -
1-0 (6’): Iván Rosado.
2-0 (32’): Puñal, penalty.
3-0 (66’): Webó.
3-1 (85’): Diego León.

Seems like a nice formation, a lot of people seem to not like playing Beckham. I like that formation, good all around. I would like to see how Owen does in his first game.

And here is an article on Alonso and the Reds.

Liverpool appear to have won the race for the signature of Spanish international Xabi Alonso after agreeing a deal with Real Sociedad.

The Reds have agreed a €16 million deal for the highly-rated midfielder, with just a few minor issues to be resolved before the move can be completed.

Alonso's agent Inaki Ibanez concluded affairs with Liverpool officials after a weekend of talks in London, with the player set to sign a five-year deal at Anfield.

Ibanez revealed to skysports.com that personal terms have been agreed and all that needs to be resolved is the method of payment between both clubs.

"The crossing of Xabi Alonso to Liverpool practically is done," Ibanez told skysports.com.

"On the part of the player everything is closed and now there are only small details between clubs to be done."

The 22-year-old is expected to arrive in England on Thursday to seal his move to Liverpool after playing for Spain in their friendly with Venezuela.

Sociedad president Jose Luis Astiazaran confirmed the move, revealing Liverpool's offer was the most concrete.

"The most serious offer from all the teams has been from Liverpool who have been interested in our player," said Astiazaran.

It was feared that long-term suitors Real Madrid may hijack Liverpool's move for Alonso after seeing their deal for Patrick Vieira collapse, but the Spaniard seems set to become Rafa Benitez's second signing of the summer.

Figо10

Real need either a centre defender or defensive midfielder, where their hopes of getting Vieira or Alonso are now real slim.

Alonso should be joining Liverpool as well, and will team up with 2 more new Spaniards, Josemi and Nunez.

So now Real have to get a defender, and Camacho has named Cannavaro and Coloccini as targets, with the former being first choice.

I don't think Cannavaro will be a good buy anywhere above 5 million pounds, as he's already 31 years old.

Better than nothing.

Anyway Fiorentina have approached Real Madrid for Solari.

Solari's had an excellent last season, versality and 4 league goals, but I think it's time for him to move on now. In Guti he has a rival and since he is a great player, should go find his potential somewhere else, I suggest following Cambiasso to Inter.

Only 1 year left on his contract for Solari, so Madrid should cash in on his good form.

But then it may seem another mistake as he can play as defensive midfielder as well.

So Real, if you can get Cannavaro, sell Solari with ease.

:)

Real Madrid have clarified their mistake: Figo is tied to Madrid for 2 more seasons, not 1.

Initially gave me a scare to see Figo going after just 5 seasons and a 37m move.

And anyway the holding midfielder Ivan Helguera was actually the best in Real last season. It's his first choice position as much as Solari would like to play at left-back.

But at least Real are not so pressured to buy a particular player; They can get either a central defender or holder midfielder because I.Helguera would just take up the remaining position.

In my opinion best choice for DM, besides Vieira, is Ballack.

He wants out from Bayern along with Sagnol, Lizarazu, Hargreaves etc. Isn't this a good time for Real Madrid to make a move? I know he rejected moves to Real Madrid and Barcelona before, but now that he isn't too happy at Bayern, could well be lured towards another ace club, like Real.

If Real are gonna get a central defender than I prefer F.Cannavaro to Coloccini.

Although he's older at 31 but he's got valuable experience Pavon and R.Bravo doesn't, and got international experience being the current Italian captain.

If I had the choice to sign other central defenders they would be Thuram, Nesta or Ferdinand, although everything now is pointing towards a buy from either Serie A club.

Should be interesting to see a transfer scramble for CB just before transfer deadline :)

One thing that does worry me is that madrid like to wait untill the last minute before going in for players and because of that they missed out Emerson and alonso lets hope they don't wait untill the last day of the transfer window before trying to sign someone.

About last minute transfers yup, sometimes too rush rash decisions are made, but Real did well to secure Ronaldo's signature in 2002. Emerson's meant for Juve and Real could have easily bidded for Alonso if they really wanted him don't you think so?

Figo Quits!
Luis Figo has confirmed that he will not play again for Portugal, with the Real Madrid winger feeling that his nation's defeat to Greece in the final of Euro 2004 represented his last act.

Figo had announced before the final that he would certainly retire in the event of victory, but the shock defeat to Greece caused a rethink.

Although he was tempted to stay on hand help his nation's attempts to qualify for the next World Cup in Germany, Figo has decided to retire.

This will allow the 31-year-old to concentrate on his club career with Real Madrid this season, although he has hinted that it could also be his last campaign with the Spanish giants.

Figo amassed 110 caps for Portugal during his glittering career, scoring 31 times.

The winger played in every game for Portugal as they hosted this year's European Championship, overcoming early criticism to play an increasingly vital role in the latter stages.

That's good news for the club that Zidane and Figo has retired from international football :)

I've also read that Real were asking a price for central defender Nesta from Milan. And also the English defender Woodgate is a possible option.

Figо10

Nesta is the best centre-back I wondered how Real let him go so easily.

Chelsea offered 34.5m for him last year.

His price from Lazio to Milan is only 20m, the year Real bought Ronaldo.

But Milan might sell Nesta to saitsfy Maldini's demands of playing in central defence, meaning he would be playing alongside Jaap Stam.

Madrid have supposed tabled a bid for woodgate of newcastle for £14million
i'm sure he's a good player but why are madrid interested in so many english players

Yah that's a question I've been podering also.

you don't think that david beckham has been advising florentino perez.
Anyway about woodgate it seems the official fee is £13.4million but i think he maybe too injury prone to justify the big fee.

Figо10

yup plus Newcastle got him for only 9m.

I think that they think he is shit cause he is always injured.

It is nice that Figo retired from international football, now he will focus all his effort on club. They do after all pay him. :)

Hopefully the physiotherapists at Real will be better than the ones at Newcastle.

And if they are, Real have a class player on their hands. Though not as class as Samuel :D

Scorers-
Morientes - 2

Assists-
Roberto Carlos - 1
Beckham - 1

Should be an interesting game against Wisla on the 25th.

Any predictions on who will be the high scorer of the season?

1.Can't see past ronaldo being top scorer.
2.But i think raul might do better this season now that quieroz is gone,he had him too far behind ronaldo so he didn't get much sevice
3.Morienteswill grab alot of goals as well as i know camacho likes him alot and will give him alot of time on the pitch
4.Zidane will grab a few goals this season,i remember last season there was a period when zidane was scoring alot
5.like Mussav said figo might get a few from penalties.
Who does everyone think should take the free-kicks seeing as beckham hasn't scored one since the spainsh cup final(i think)

Figо10

don't think there's any meaning adding Guti and Beckham, Figo once scored 10 in 31 leagues games I must say that's impressive.

And Carlos scored 6 last season that's more than Zidane, Beckham, Guti, Solari and Figo.

Highway Penguin
20-08-2004, 14:49
I just put Guti and Beckham cause they played mids, I really didn't think about Roberto cause he will score but I think only like 3-5 goals. If you want me to add him I will. :)

I've heard that woodgate won't be the last signing for Real. It's rumoured they still want a cannavaro or a defensive midfielder, the name mascherano was mentioned.

i'd already heard rumours of him moving back to italy and roma are looking for a striker.
and he has already said he would like to play in england or go back to italy but there's no way that tottenham could afford that.
i still believe madrid need to buy a defensive midfielder before the window closes

That article was bullshit.

Anyway. I'll add Roberto Carlos.

Who will be the top assister?

I won't do a poll just post who you think.

Jonny2J

Beckham will be top assister

Highway Penguin
21-08-2004, 00:18
Hey,
Guys I'm sorry, but I can't remember how to change the poll, so just pretend Guti is Roberto Carlos. It might get confusing but will be ok in the end.

Does anyone know how to change it?

I predict that Beckham will have a good season.

Figо10

Figo for top assister.

who will be an ideal replacement for Figo after he left after this season?

skullverine

maybe Guti will be Figo's replacement

Highway Penguin
21-08-2004, 06:28
I think that Guti will take his place. I heard that that whole thing about FIgo leaving was crap.

Who will take Raul's place is a good question. As well as Zidanes.

codename 47
21-08-2004, 08:14
Top assister will be beckham seeing as he takes all the corners and with he's good passes
A figo replacement will be joaquin of betis, i know that florentino perez is a big fan and is supposed to have given him a real madrid shirt and told him'you will be a madrid player soon' which will be next season.
AS for raul i've heard little rumours of fernando torres, but i don't think that will happen
for zidane i have no idea who they will buy it could be anyone as long as its not another englishman.(woodgate is giving a press conferance at 6pm)

Figо10
21-08-2004, 13:30
Guti will be Figo's replacement, as he's the only left-footed player apart from Solari, who I don't think will sign a new contract at the end of next season.

Well, that's unless Real play with 3 strikers, though.

Woodgate's Arrival
"There is still a lot of room left in Real Madrid's trophy cabinet". Woodgate's purpose in coming to Spain is crystal clear for himself. The international English player does not want to set himself any limit, his goal is to win everything. He gave his first exclusive interview to Realmadrid.com and Realmadrid TV to express how "overwhelmed" he is about the impact of his signing by Real. Jonathan or Woody ("you can call me as you like") is also very clear about his job in the team: the reinforcement of the defence. "I am a defender and I love my job. I hope that I can be a good player, that fans enjoy what I do on the field. "I can't wait to put on the white jersey". These are the first 'white' statements by Jonathan Woodgate, Real Madrid's third signing for season 2004/05.

-Can you tell us about your first impressions as a new Real Madrid player?
-The whole thing has been very crazy and incredible for me. I am enjoying every minute of my stay here. It is something unbelievable for me to play in this team. I have not had time to take in such excitement. This is a most important moment in my life. I am very happy and grateful to Real for having brought me here.
http://www.realmadrid.com/web_realmadrid/mmedia/000/000/043/626.jpg
-How would you introduce yourself to your new supporters?
-I'd say my name is Jonathan Woodgate, I am 24, I have played in Leeds and Newcastle before as a central defender and now I can't wait to put on the white shirt and play for Real Madrid.
http://www.realmadrid.com/web_realmadrid/mmedia/000/000/043/628.jpg
-What is the story behind your signing for Real Madrid?
-My agent called me on Wednesday morning to tell me that Real Madrid was interested in me. I could not believe it myself. I was speechless with the receiver in my hand, I was overwhelmed. Then it was time for joy, obviously.

-You missed on the Eurocup because of an injury that is still dragging on. How are you feeling now?
-As you know, I got that injury on my thigh in April playing Chelsea. I am recovering and I hope it will be completely healed in two or three weeks' time. There has been no problem in the medical checkup and I hope I will be in full shape to play all the tournaments of the season.

-Recently, you stated your dream was to play the Champions League. Is that one of the main reasons for your signi
