They should have no excuses, indeed, yet I don't think they'll win it. So much irregularity, moodinness and diva syndrom both in the team and the directives is bound to put a dent in their aspirations.

Sweey
10-09-2006, 21:01
I hope they don't win it but one thing is for certain - if they don't, they can't blame anyone but themselves. They've got a lead over the second favourites, they're considered stronger than the third favourites and everyone else is challenging for Europe or trying to stave off relegation.

sukhy2004
10-09-2006, 23:45
Also I think Inter should mount a strong challenge in the Champs. Lge this season, especially with the likes of Crespo (who with the right service will get you goals) on their books.

I'm not so sure... with a bit of luck in the draw, it could be on the cards. Inter have been relatively successful in the last few years, something that was reflected in the fact that they were in Pot 1 during the draw.

Sweey
12-09-2006, 21:40
Buy all the players you want, it takes more than that to restructure the club as a whole. Of course, they could go and win the Champions League despite tonight's defeat but from where I'm sitting it is simply typical of what they always do.

Nice of Vieira to get sent off on his CL debut the same way he did for Juventus at Club Bruges.

Also...

Hernan Crespo replaced the absent Adriano for the final 20 minutes, but it could've been 2-0 when Liedson just failed to get his head on to a taut Moutinho cross from the right.

Ibrahimovic only really woke up in the last 10 minutes, just failing to get a cross on to the head of Crespo and then unleashing a daisy-cutter that skimmed the base of the upright.

Why am I not surprised?

Inter won't win anything this year, if they play like they did today. They lost to sporting....how?? the answer is simple, they have 3 pimps that simply don´t want to play. Adriano, Zlatan and Figo made a nightmare match, too lazy. The problem is that they earn too much money at the end of the month, and they don't care if they play well or not, they'll receive the money anyway.
What a management error that's happening in Inter....

With a little bit of bad luck, they won't go through to the last 16...that's what i really want! Bunch of pimps....

Milan - no evidence
Lazio - very very very little evidence
Fiorentina - some sort of evidence
Juventus - Luciano Moggi and Antonio Giraudo

Adriano isn't happy, Mancini is under increasing pressure and Ibrahimovic was acting like someone who deserves a kicking yesterday during the match. He's a gifted player but acts like such a fuckwit.

Roma-Inter on Wednesday could make or break the season. If Inter play like they did yesterday then expect a heavy defeat. Come on Spalletti! :ninja:

Inter aren't my strong point but here are some I can think of. Excluded Sammer, Rummenigge and some others as they didn't stay for very long or play too many games.

Giorgio Ghezzi - goalkeeper
Walter Zenga - goalkeeper
Giuseppe Bergomi - right-back
Javier Zanetti - right wing-back
Andreas Brehme - left-back
Giacinto Facchetti - left-back
Armando Picchi - defender/sweeper
Lothar Matthaus - defender/sweeper/midfielder
Gabriele Oriali - defender/defensive midfielder
Luis Suarez - midfielder
Mario Corso - attacking midfielder
Ruben Sosa - forward
Benito Lorenzi - striker
Sandro Mazzola - striker
Giuseppe Meazza - striker

The ones in bold are those which I think almost anyone would include.

Juan Sebestian Veron, the most important and the leader of Inter's midfield, left Inter. And if anyone thinks that Vieria is going to compensate for Veron, so he is wrong. Vieria is not a passer, he doesn't defend well and he makes many fouls...also he is playing along side Cambiasso, who has the same abilities and weak points.

I completely agree with "Sweey" that Adriano and Ibrahimovic are pathetic and moody....They will do nothing to Inter.

At the end...Inter is Inter...Can't be the leader......Only RUNNER-UP.

Mancini feels it won't work as all three strikers use the same space on the pitch - which is true. Also, what about Maicon, Materazzi and Stankovic? A severe lack of width in that formation and Figo playing in the hole didn't work against Sporting Lisbon. Adriano isn't exactly known for his defensive work - and Crespo definitely isn't.

Not a bad formation, but I fail to see why to put 5 defenders. When Cambiasso is back, he deserves a place in the midfield. Keep Materazzi and Samuel, Cordoba as backup, alternate them. Adriano deep lying player? Don't think it's really good. If he is in on form, you can put him in there, but he needs goals badly. Partner him with Crespo, same length. If Zlatan whines being on the bench, then I have no idea why they even bought him the first place. I hate that bitch anyways. The midfield looks impressive though.

Inter's problem is this:

Recoba is so ridiculously inconsistent it isn't even funny.
Adriano is a confidence player who is stupidly inconsistent.
Ibrahimovic cannot consistently (get the point here?) score goals though he's creative but struggles to control his temper in every game.

inter milan always suck, even years ago i hated them , because they have no one consitent in their team and they are all argentinian, is that because the manager is from argentina ?

anyway, unlike manchester united, they dont have players from the youth team who were brought into the first team and therefore love the club , or should love the club , (they might have some players brought in from the youth team ,even if they do, i doubt anyone knows who they are )

Give it a rest. I hate Inter far more than you ever could but give it a rest. They have passion, they have desire and they want the Scudetto desperately. The organisation of the club from the very top down through the directors and to the players is what is weak at the club and they do not handle pressure well - Mancini is now accusing the media of calling them favourites to put them under pressure. What kind of stupid comment is that? The "strongest" squad in the division, starting eight points clear of "the second strongest team" and Juventus in Serie B. How could anyone else possibly be favourites?

Topic of the moment: Mancini's position

The future of Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini is causing rifts at board level and also amongst the playing group, it has been revealed.

La Stampa says amongst the players, Luis Figo and Dejan Stankovic are loyal to Mancino, however he is offside with Javier Zanetti, Adriano, Marco Materazzi, Santiago Solari and Julio Cruz. The new arrivals, such as Patrick Vieira, Maicon and Hernan Crespo, are staying on the fringes of the debate inside the dressing room.

Meanwhile, at board level, Lele Oriali is fully supportive of the coach. However, Marco Branca and Rinaldi Ghelfi are the most critical, while Ernesto Paolillo, the general executive manager, is neutral.

2. Cambiasso is a holding midfielder not a playmaker.
3. Maxwell doesn't play in the centre.
4. Vieira doesn't play slightly on the right side.

What in the hell is wrong with that guy?

anyways since you just seem to be guessing formations I'll post up an actuall formation.

I'd like to point out that I think dacourt is an excelent signing and from what little I've seen this season he looks good for inter ....and I'd play him first team.

zanetti-----------------------------------------maxwell
-------------------dacort------------------------------
--------------cambiasso-------viera--------------------
-------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------recoba-------------------------
------------------------------ibrahimovic--------------
-------------------crespo-----------------------------

I like this formation, the strong midfield allows the side backs who are the most offensive they have to attack without the defense suffering alot. Dacort plays an all out dmf role and cambiasso and viera play a slighty more offensive role while still holding the midfield. Recoba has a completely free role and cambiasso also creates a good supply line for the center forwards.
maxwell can be interchanged with grosso and materazzi at cb and burdisso at cb too and rb. stankovic can be interchanged in the cmf role or play more attacking on the wings. recoba probably won't start though so that free role goes to figo.I believe he is better playing there than on the wings now, the wings limit him, he's not fast anymore or powerful but he is a great playmaker and extremly good on the ball the omf role means he has more of the pitch to work with and I think this is best for him. And of course adriano can be interchanged with either cf.

Ohh yeah and there new player rodriguez I think, he looks very good and can play in figos role.

Nope. They were "awarded" the 2005/06 title and the 2004/05 is void. What a Scudetto - one that gets handed to you after you fail to finish anywhere near the top. Moggi didn't help Juventus enough for them to finish about 15 points clear of Inter. Six maybe at a stretch but not 15.

We're the number one seed in the Champions League this season. Have the highest co-efficient out of everyone. As for the Liverpool game, I knew at half-time we'd lose despite being 3-0 up. Our problems were obvious over two seasons, Ancelotti didn't address them and it wasn't even our most spectacular collapse despite what people would have you believe, it was simply ANOTHER collapse in the biggest club game of all.

Every time we concede these days we look helpless. It is a similar story straight after we score.

I do not hate Inter or its fans, but i do not like moratti who took advantage from the scandel and tried to buy as Juve players as he can. Also if you follow newspapers or football website nowadays, you'll observe indirectly that Moratti might be one of the people that started the scandel and at the same time, this scandel was very useful to him....Just think about it.

The FIGC are set to launch an investigation after former referee Massimo De Santis accused Inter of tailing him in 2002.

The former official, who was handed a four-year ban because of his involvement in the Calciopoli scandal, also accused the Via Durini outfit of tapping his phone, after another scandal broke out in the past few days in Italy revealing hundreds of cases of phone interceptions by Telecom Italia.

“When I first learned about this operation by Massimo Moratti I was disgusted, even if I know that can be a strong word to use,” said De Santis in a television interview.

“I am paying for something that I didn’t do, I have always stated my innocence and to know today what was happening a few years ago really makes me sick.

“Why were they following me? I think they maybe wanted to blackmail me.”

It is reported that Inter decided to have De Santis followed by a private investigator after former referee Danilo Nucini informed the late Inter chief Giacinto Facchetti of suspicious relations between Luciano Moggi and De Santis.

The investigation however brought to no firm results and the file was closed seeing as “there were no anomalies in De Santis’ way of life.”

If the accusations prove to be true, Inter could risk a fine for violating the sporting code, but there would be no consequences for the team itself in terms of points deductions.

Inter owner Moratti reacted immediately, saying that his club has nothing to do with the interceptions despite Telecom Italia being one of its shareholders.

“He’s got some cheek to say this kind of things – Inter has no involvement in this issue,” said the oil tycoon to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I think De Santis’ words are very serious, he cannot ignore the damage he is causing us by making these statements.”

Coach Roberto Mancini backed up Moratti’s comments, stating: "He’s disgusted? Myself and many others have been disgusted for months and we shall be so for the rest of our lives.”

so then zanneti figo viera cambiasso crespo grosso dacort stankovic etc. what are these players? these are all great players who work great with the team, there are some players they have like that but that is not a proble/

they have 9 new players this season all coming into the team, mancini last year could never settle on a formation or a standard starting 11 because theres too many good players to chosse from. this is the same problem again even mors so this season, he needs to establish his starting 11 in a set formation and then let this team play together week in week out.

Luis Figo is set to quit Internazionale and embark on a sensational move to Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia. Portuguese press reports claim the legendary winger will travel to Jeddah in ten days to tie up a lucrative contract, and will change clubs immediately.

"Figo will wear our club's shirt from January 5," said a statement on the Al Ittihad website.

He is believed to have been offered 4.5 million euros until June 2008.

The 34-year-old has recently voiced his disappointment at being left out of Roberto Mancini's first-team plans.

He has had a mainly peripheral role as Inter have racked up a record 11 straight league wins.

Figo has started just eight Serie A games this term, coming off the bench in seven others.

Al Ittihad took part in the 2005 FIFA World Club Cup, and currently boast international stars Jared Borgetti and Milenko Acimovic on their books.

Former players include Roberto Donadoni and Bebeto.

I will be disappointed if he leaves but I wouldn't blame him since he hardly plays. With his departure this should give the likes of Solari and Gonzalez a run in the starting eleven.

MILAN - Massimo Moratti spoke on Italian television this afternoon on his arrival at the Saras offices:

Dr Moratti: are you irritated by the declarations made yesterday by minister Melandri?

"Not really. The reaction was perhaps a bit excessive and reported badly by the media."

Two days on, are you still a bit angry about how this elimination came about, considering the fact that some big clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Arsenal have been knocked out?

"No, this means nothing. There's still great disappointment, but the team showed it is still very strong. We lost to a team I regard as less strong than us, but who did well in the two matches, particularly here in Milan, creating a difficult return leg for us."

Are you worried about the derby?

"No, nothing changes, although psychologically there could be less of an incentive now."

Ibrahimovic said he is ready to take the blame for the elimination because he didn't give what he could have.

"I think that in saying this, Ibrahimovic showed what a good lad he is. It's never the fault of just one person. Ibrahimovic did what he had to do. Certain plays didn't go well for him that went better in other matches where he has enjoyed more freedom. But he did very well to say this because it shows he has lots of character."

The derby is around the corner. Do you fear a possible psychological counter-blow after your elimination from the Champions League?

"No, I don't think so. I hope they face it with all the necessary respect for a derby."

Ronaldo said in an interview that he is still fond of Massimo Moratti.

"He'll have to prove this in the derby...(smiles)."

President: you said there's no change in the relationship with Roberto Mancini as a result of the Champions League exit. Can we expect you to announce the renewal of his contract soon?

"I don't think it will be long, but we don't feel this need to make an announcement. The players, the team and everyone knows it's something that will continue."

Could it be that you have already signed the contact, and that you will only announce it at the end of the championship?

"No. This hasn't happened."

It is not official until Inter or Cagliari announce it. Cagliari's president Massimo Cellino yesterday gave Inter a 24-hour deadline to complete the deal which they have not yet done.

Suazo was extremely lazy throughout the season and anyone who saw him says the same. He's a fast striker who refused to move when he didn't have the ball. He did score fourteen goals - eight of which were penalties. The number of goals scored doesn't really tell you if someone is lazy or not. Efficiency yes, but considering he scored six goals from open play that is dire in comparison to 2005/06 when he was virtually unstoppable. Perhaps the move to a bigger club will be his motivation.

As for Figo, he said last week he will either stay at Inter or retire.

Cristian Chivu is expected to join Inter in the next few days.

I honestly think 07/08 will finally be the year that Inter win the Champions League again......Inter need to buy at least one central midfielder and a centre back, De Rossi and Chivu?
If they sign with Suazo, who's signing is imminent I've heard, then I don't think Inter can be stopped and I hope I'm right.
Chuck Tevez in the mix as well and you have a world class team

A world class team who will screw up because half the dressing room will be pissed off. How do you expect to keep Ibrahimovic, Crespo, Tevez, Suazo, Cruz (your best striker) and Stankovic happy? Let alone mentioning Figo who is only staying for one more season anyway so doesn't matter so much.

Bringing in De Rossi means Vieira or Cambiasso get dropped regularly and want to leave.

I reckon Cruz is the man, but he knows that he is needed off the bench, Crespo is not 25 anymore and he also realises the needs for good attacking options off the bench. Stankovic can play anywhere in midfield and I reckon he knows he's first team. Tevez, Ibrahimovic and Suazo in attack would be great. And using Cambiasso, De Rossi and Stankovic in midfield would be all right as well, as Vieira can't play every game

Luis Jimenez and Rivas signed for Inter a couple of days ago

Jimenez is apparently going to be on loan. I'm happy that we got him.

I'm not to sure about Rivas. My dad told me that when he played for Deportivo Cali in Colombia, he was known for making a lot of mistakes and giving away unneccesarry fouls. Many people wanted him out of Cali and he then went to River Plate of Argentina. Rivas improved drastically at River suprisingly and became a starter. My dad says that he's a beast and so is very physical. I can't imagine what he and Materazzi would do in the center of the defence! I just hope he doesn't fail and return to his old form.

I personally think inter can win the scudetto again and hopefully the italian cup which they failed to win against Roma in a surprising goal fest that Roma displayed.

Im not too sure about the champions league for them as they have many defender banned from the valencia incident last season and the injuries they have which are mostly defenders..

I honestly believe it depends which Inter turns up. That said, Mancini is clueless in Europe so they're fucked even if Liverpool help them by changing the first leg score to 0-0.

Inter's first half performance: :doh:

It clearly isn't their night and it also isn't Cruz's. He'd have buried those chances against Milan. Zanetti has been pretty much flawless and Vieira keeps wrecking everything.

Same here.

Mancini is a loser. In both legs he's tried to set Inter up to do the sort of thing Milan would. He's also opened the door for his own exit.

Tonight:

Julio Cesar = Kalac
Maicon = Oddo
Rivas = Nesta
Chivu = Maldini
Burdisso = Jankulovski
Cambiasso = Pirlo
Vieira = Gattuso
J Zanetti = Seedorf
Stankovic = Kaka
Ibrahimovic = Pato
Cruz = Gilardino

Or at least that's what Mancini was trying to achieve. Failed miserably.

Is Mancini's job going to be safe? I know that they are on their way to the Scudetto (Roma will not catch them), but I get the feeling that in Italy (and even Spain), you sometimes need to do more than just win the league.

I know they have had defensive injuries, but with the squad they had, they should be progressing further in the Champions League.

If I were Moratti, he'd be out this summer. At the end of the day, compare their squad to Milan's over the last two years. They've gone out of the CL at this stage for two years running while last season we won it.

Of course they won the league last season and are leading this season but it is clear that the favours from referees in domestic games (Roma deserved to beat them all things being fair) which don't translate to Europe are costing them as they're so used to being treated in a special way. Mancini kept asking for yellow cards for absolutely nothing tonight as he's gotten used to seeing them given to opposing teams domestically.

And don't even get me started on the weekend 'penalty' they were awarded against Reggina who outplayed them and were unlucky.

I didn't see the red card tonight as my computer was being an arse but the Materazzi one was incredibly harsh. Give Mancini some support there...and blow it all away by asking what the fuck he thought he was doing:

a) trying to soak it all up in the first leg with no interest in attacking
b) setting Inter up like Milan tonight when they don't play that way to begin with.

That's showing a fair amount of disrespect to Roma. They're more inconsistent than Inter but should be no more than three points behind them or, in a fair world, one or two points ahead.

It'd help if Mancini had an idea on tactics. Did they buy Suazo for the sole purpose of preventing Milan getting him? I believed it in the summer and I see it as confirmed now. They've never given him a chance to prove himself and the situation in the first leg was made in heaven for him...yet he went unused.

That's the sort of logic I'd expect from someone like somegooner. Roma knocked out Real Madrid so that makes La Liga the weakest of the three as Real lead in Spain and Roma don't in Italy :rolleyes:

Inter, in both legs, tried to play like Milan. They don't do that domestically. Mancini is clueless in Europe and should take all of the blame.

To make matters worse, there was a touchline row in which Luis Figo was asked to come on as a substitute, but refused to get off the bench. After a recent argument with Vieira, this is another sign of dissent within the ranks.
