Recoba in training at the san siro
Does anyone think we need any more players before the start of the season or do you think someone should be sold
I would like to see Gilardino come in and maybe cruz leaving as part of the deal.
what do you think
ALSO WHAT DO YOU THINK THE STRIKE LINE SHOULD BE
RECOBA: "ME AND ADRIANO? WHY NOT?"
Sunday, 08 August 2004 20:51:29
MILAN - Uruguayan forward Alvaro Recoba spoke to journalists before the start of Sunday's training session at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium:
You face a tough side in the Champions League qualifier...
"We knew they would be a difficult team to face. But by now every team that participates in the Champions (League) is tough."
How have your preparations gone?
"Our preparations have gone well. We have worked without any problems?
The attacking partnership of Adriano and Recoba works very well. What do you think?
"The partnership works because I move as a second striker, while he is an important centre-forward. We're all calm, the club has worked well on the transfer market, we know that there are no stronger players around than the ones that play here. We have a team that can be competitive in the championship and the Champions League."
Do you think this would work i think it could and i am also confident that mancini will get the best out of recoba as sometimes he is disapointing but there is no doubt that he is very talented.

Although mancini has said this
Mancio relies on young guns Monday 9 August, 2004
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roberto Mancini insists Adriano and Obafemi Martins will be his first choice pairing this season, but both could miss the Basel clash.
“Adriano and Martins will create an incredible partnership upfront, not just this year but for a decade to come. Perhaps I will teach them a trick or two.”
This is an important statement from the former Sampdoria and Lazio legend, who had convinced Christian Vieri to stay on at the club despite interest from Real Madrid and Juventus.
“Vieri won’t play every single game,” conceded Mancini, “but I’m sure his input will allow us to win a few matches.”
The Italian international is notoriously ill tempered when forced to sit on the bench, as Alberto Zaccheroni learned last season when Vieri often refused to take his seat.
However, there are rather more pressing problems for the Nerazzurri as they prepare for Wednesday’s Champions’ League preliminary round trip to Basel.
There are injury worries to contend with, as Vieri, Martins, Fabio Cannavaro, Cristiano Zanetti and the suspended Sinisa Mihajlovic are out of action, while Nicolas Burdisso is at the Olympics with Argentina.
“I don’t know if Adriano will be able to play,” admitted Mancini as the Brazilian returned to Italy this morning following the tragic death of his father last week. “He is free to choose what he wants to do, but obviously we’d love to have him with us in Switzerland.”
It looks likely that Alvaro Recoba will take one of the starting places, with Julio Cruz perhaps stepping in if Adriano is not 100 per cent fit.
“The Swiss outfit are not to be underestimated,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport, “as they have already beaten Manchester United and Juventus on their home turf. Above all, they are five weeks into their League season and are therefore at a more advanced stage of fitness preparation.”
Much is expected of Inter this season, as Mancini must provide entertaining play as well as results.
“Attractive football is a way of getting victories rather than an end in itself. At Inter there is a fear of failure and the best way to be rid of that is for players to enjoy their work, but that doesn't mean the result is secondary."
"I have learnt a lot from maestros of the game like Vujadin Boskov and Sven Goran Eriksson, but I can see Arrigo Sacchi’s influence in a lot of my teams.”
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that English referee Graham Poll will be in charge of Inter’s crunch match against Swiss outfit Basel and German official Herbert Fandel oversees Juve’s tie with Djurgarden.

r there any inter fans out there willing to talk
I think Inter is going to make a "comeback" from last years 4th place. Doesn't sound bad, but they were 10 points behind Juve who were 3rd. I believe Serie A is going to be tougher than last year. I think Juve, Inter and Milan are gonna be the best teams. Roma isn't going to be as good as they were last year. They have lost Samuel, Zebina and Emerson.

BIRRA MORETTI: INTER V JUVE PHOTOS
Juventus beat Inter 1-0 in a fast and furious opening Birra Moretti Trophy encounter at the San Nicola which saw four bookings and a sending-off.
David Trezeguet scored the winning goal in 9th minute with a powerful close-range header from Zambrotta's left-wing cross. The Nerazzurri's best chance fell to Marco Materazzi, whose looping far-post header from Veron's right-wing free kick finished on the roof of the Juve goal.
Bianconeri midfielder Mauro Camoranesi was sent off for a second bookable offence on the half hour for a handball in the Inter penalty box.
unfortunatly inter lost
Thx. Good story for my thread too! Looked like a tough game. This must be one of those friendly tournaments. Looks like new players like Zebina and Veron got to play too.

no probs your welcome to talk here when you want Tomi k14
I've had an intense dislike for Inter since we played them in the San Siro a couple of years ago. Their fans are racist hooligans, amongst other things they threw a flare into the Newcastle fans section.
Also, Sergio Conceciao was a cheating bastard that night.
How many trophies have they won recently? For the amount of money they have spent you would think they would have a few trophies to show for it.

Newcastle don t deserve to be in champions league anyway
Hmm, I possibly should have re-phrased that. On the night their fans were racist towards Bernard, LuaLua and Shola.
As for not dseserving to be in the Champions League, Do Rangers deserve to be in after their magnificent season?

True if Mancini can have Recoba play a creative part like a second striker behind Adriano, then stuff could happen.Either that or let Obafemi Martins and someone else partner up.

I think recoba is one of the most gifted footballers in the game today and if we can get the best out of him it will help us in the league ang champions league because he has got a deadly left foot and can hit a brilliant fk so thats an added quality to his game

Are you hoping he will return to chelsea next year?
If he plays well this season i still think that he will move to inter peranently because i don t think chelsea would want him back!
Another factor to him staying at us permanenty is that he is good friends with mancini and i think he likes italy!

Recoba relishes Swiss chance
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Injuries have given Alvaro Recoba a probable starting spot against Basel and El Chino is eager to take full advantage of this opportunity.
“I combine wonderfully with Adriano and we make a great partnership,” maintained the Uruguayan enigma. “I can move as a support striker, giving him the chance to use his strength as an out and out centre forward.”
This pairing has been almost thrust upon Coach Roberto Mancini after he was forced to do without Obafemi Martins, Christian Vieri, Cristiano Zanetti, Nicolas Burdisso and Andy van der Meyde for the Champions’ League trip to Basel.
Van der Meyde's absence could well have other motives, however, as it's believed he will return to Ajax over the next few weeks and therefore does not wish to be cup-tied.
“The Swiss outfit is a tough one, just like all the teams at this stage of the competition,” noted Recoba. “Our fitness preparation has left us in good condition and we are pretty relaxed about the situation.”
Inter are certainly the favourites to get through to the European competition proper after an impressive transfer campaign.
“We know that the club has done its job well and nobody has the sheer strength in depth that we have at Inter.”
“We have a squad capable of winning both the Scudetto and the Champions’ League,” he concluded, “so to not even enter would be tragic.”
Mancini has called 21 players for the trip across the Alps, but Andy van der Meyde was left behind due to a fitness problem. Sinisa Mihajlovic has made the flight so that he can begin to sit out some of his six-match ban.

ADRIANO: "FOR MY FATHER"
Thursday, 12 August 2004 08:00:02
It all happened so suddenly and in the space of a few days. Adriano lost his father, and the Brazilian striker received the affection of the club, Roberto Mancini, the team and the fans. The Nerazzurri centre-forward thanked everyone in the best possible way, by scoring a goal that Massimo Moratti described as 'exceptional' and Giacinto Facchetti as 'fantastic'. When Adriano pointed to the sky in memory of his father we were as moved as he was. With all his simplicity, the striker wanted to thank everybody and make a special dedication.
"I'm very happy because I scored an important goal for the team. I have to thank my teammates who helped me. Yes, the dedication is for my father - it's thanks to him that I can experience these moments. He gave me everything he had and he did everything for me, until a week ago. I accept the reality of things, this can happen in life. I must remember every day that I owe my father and my family for what I do. It's clear that I have to stay calm now, sort my thoughts out and try to do even more for the team that has done a lot for me."

Recoba,Adriano and Davids. Those guys should make a big diff in the team.
What about the likes of Veron and J. Zanetti?
Hello all of you Inter fans!! I'm a Juve fan myself but I still want to say that you have a REALLY good team! With that many players I would find it very hard to make the starting line-up every weekend! You are great in any position on the pitch! By the way, do you think that Recoba will leave?? You have Stankovic and Veron as omf already! And three is to many, don't you think?

what do u guys regard as Inter Milans best starting 11? they have such a gr8 squad with so much competition all ova the pitch i find it difficult 2 coem up with a definitive starting 11..at the moment on PES3 i have the team as..
.............................. ................Toldo......... .............................. ............
.......J.Zanetti............Co rdoba.................Burdisso ............Mihailjovic....... ..
.............................. ................Davids........ .............................. ..........
.............................. Stankovic..............Emre... .............................. .......
.............................. ...............Veron.......... .............................. ..........
.............................. ......Martins........Adriano.. .............................. ........
and the likes of Recoba,Vieri,Cambiasso,Van der Meyde and Kily Gonzalez on the bench..any better options do any of u think?
Marco Materazzi should start instead of Burdisso, davids instead of Emre, Veron instead of Davids, Recoba instead of Veron....more offense. This is an offensive team and they should play as such. Either of their defensive MF's are also great attackers. Also Veron and Davids can change places, Reboba and Davids....
Inter have always had a good team for as long as i remember but for some reason its just never clicekd, i mean u had Ronaldo, Vieiri, Baggio, Recoba all in ur squad at once, but u just aint the Rossinerri :D

MORATTI: "MANCINI IS NOT AT RISK"
Monday, 15 November 2004 16:01:18
MILAN - (ANSA) - On yesterday's match against Cagliari , Inter patron Massimo Moratti commented: "The feeling I had until it was 3-1 certainly wasn't good; I thought the reaction was excellent, and that the team always played well in attack but was quite... dangerous in defence."
Inter are often letting in goals from counter-attacks. Moratti: "These things depend a bit on the formation. When we're fielded like this, you risk being counter-attacked, and this happened to us. They scored three goals from three moves, against twenty-one of ours. But there's still room for hope, though things have to be put right in defence."
So is Mancini at risk? "No, absolutely not,", concluded the Nerazzurri patron.
I think this is good news because i think mancini is doing a good job but all he has to do is sort out the defence plus i like the style we play just now
El Chino
17-11-2004, 00:34
and so he shouldnt be...he has brought a positive style of play to the team...Inter wonders why they havn't won a championship...its because there is no continuity...new coaches...new players...there has to be time and chance given to a squad
constant reshuffeling is what holds Inter back...we are not a great "team"...we are a team with great players...until those great players play as a team...then we will be unstoppable...
one flaw Mancini so far has commited is constant shuffling of the starting 11 with exception to Adriano, Veron and Stankovic...they wonder why we keep drawing and throwing away victories....look at Juve's and Milan lineups...Juve will only change 1 and at most 2 from game to game...while Milan will rotate no more than 3...there are no excuses we have played over 15 games so far this season...surely we should have a settled line up by now
Mancini on the other hand will have no hesitation changing our defensive 4 and mixing up the midfield  ....
we are undefeated because
1) we throw away two goal leads
2) Adriano and Martins ability to save our ass(Caliagri, Parma, Chievo etc
all this being said our defensive play is horrendous...Mancini needs one more even two seasons....then if things havnt changed can we talk about ANOTHER change :(
I think this is good news because i think mancini is doing a good job but all he has to do is sort out the defence plus i like the style we play just now
So you support Inter and Rangers? If the two were to meet, who would you root for? I can't understand how you can support two teams, and two from different countries no less.
10 draws in Serie A so far, but iam not to bothered. As long as were not losing then iam ok with it.
At the bottom of my signiture is what iam happy about.
10 draws in Serie A so far, but iam not to bothered. As long as were not losing then iam ok with it.
So you would be happy with Inter drawing the rest of their games? They are destined for a mid-table finish with the results they are getting at the moment.

i wouldnt be dissapointed thats for sure.
But we wont be drawing all the time, and in those games we dont draw we will be winning.
12 games in Serie A, 10 draws, 2 wins.
If it continues like that then i would more then happy. Wont win us the Championship but will sit us high in the table.

Hey Inter would be good in the old western.......... Draw!
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/rex.boyd/rexsite2003/promo%20files/western/screen/draw_full_sc.jpg
My prediction for the Juve-Inter match is a draw, naturally. Regarding the rotation that you mentioned - well, we all saw what the no-rotation policy did to Real Madrid last season. BTW Cappelo is rotating more than 3 players, usually - like last match he gave Nedved a rest, sometimes giving Alex a rest (with Oliviera) and Zebina (well, due to injury) is subbed by Pessoto.
El Chino
17-11-2004, 13:31
Capello is smart with his rotation...while Mancini is very carefree but risky...and we are paying for it... perfect example is the back four
Juve have Zambrotta-Canna-Thuram-Zebina(Pessoto)
Inter have tried so many combinations J.Zanetti either left or right, Cordoba centre or right, Matrix and Burdisso as CB's, Mihajilovic and Burdisso as CB's....not to mention Toldo vs Fontana in goal????
and we wonder why we are leaking goals...15+ games into the season and Mancini is still experimenting with the back four...its ridicolous...tell me a coach who shuffles and rotates there D-Line...I know Mancini is a young coach...but anyone who follows football knows that consistent lineups equal consistent results
if it wasnt for our attack...Adriano...and well...Adriano we would be in the relegation zone...I wasnt expecting the Scudetto this season...but what I was expecting was to be in the top 3 at least....oh well still undefeated
Yeah Inter can still take some pride from the fact that they're unbeaten, but at this rate the statistic isn't going to last very long.
Inter should stop getting draws if they can find a consistent back 4 which put in good defensive displays and stop conceding goals, especially stupid equalisers.
Gotta admit L'Imperatore is probably the best, most exciting and deadliest striker around.

Inter for me are one of the best teams in Europe along with Juve and Chelsea
Better than Barca and Milan for me
The results don't tell the whole story, Their defence is good and you'll see v Juve in their next game.
Like I said fuck the stats, Its sound like a joke but they have been jinxed so far
I doubt if Adriano is the best in the world, but he's damn good for sure. I'm looking forward to see Inter winning more games (than having ties). They surely have the players to do that.
Just finished reading Ranieri's book, extract:
"As it happens, we were set to buy the Brazilian striker Adriano from Parma. It was my expectation and everyone else's that he would be a Blue from January onwards, but he was plucked from under our noses. This was a bad blow. It was a set back technically, because he is an extraordinary goal predator and could've made an immediate difference to our team. And it was a disappointment on a personal level too, with the knowledge that no less a gifure than Arriho Ascchi, whom I have always admired and whose example I used to follow in the dugout, had been involved. Whether or not his intention had been to act in the interests of Parma, a club financially in ruins by then, I cannot say. In the end the player was swayed by some skilful sweet-talking on the part of Inter chairman Massimo Moratti, and return to play in Milan."

Unlucky Liam
Im sure Ranieri had the awesome Adriano-Mutu combination in mind,At Parma it was like they were born to play along side each other and Im sure Mutu wouldn't of gone astray after linking up with his mate.
And getting Robben...Damn that would of been crazy
Do you know how much space Adriano would of created for them 2, And vice versa

Chelsea is just the best player poacher nowadays, everyone seems attracted there. Like Robben, Carvalho, Drogba, Mutu, Kezman, the only exception was Adriano.
He's doing well at Inter, they were very lucky to get him rather than Chelsea.
Think they will hold Juve to a draw when the 2 sides meet.

Nerazzurri defender Francesco Coco, who hasn't played a competitive match since last November because of a back operation, is about to get a new lease of life. "I hope to play against Bologna in the Coppa Italia," he said. "Even if I don't play the whole match, just playing a part of it will be very important for me, like starting a second life."
The Inter defender, who was at the Ventaglio Cafe' in Milan along with other AC Milan, Inter and Armani Jeans Milano players for the presentation of a new deal with Radio 105, added: "I feel ready and motivated. It's like the end of a nightmare for me. I want to officially return to the team and remain in it, because I belong to Inter and in any case the club has said no players will be sold in January."
Coco, who wants to show his footballing talents against Bologna , also commented on the next league match at home to Juventus. "We must be realistic," he explained. "If we lose it will be difficult to catch up. But if we win it will be an enormous psychological boost for us to continue well. A lot of things have changed this year. We always take to the pitch with the right mentality. We want to win all our matches, even friendlies in training. Now we're concentrating on winning against Bologna so we can face Juventus with the right motivation."

MILAN - Goals from Christian Vieri, Alvaro Recoba and Julio Cruz gave Inter a 3-1 win over Bologna in Sunday evening's Tim Cup last sixteen first-leg match at the Giuseppe Meazza.
After Giorgos Karagounis rattled the woodwork and Vieri had an effort ruled out for offside in the opening minutes, Bellucci fired Bologna ahead from their first attempt on goal, beating Fontana with a crisp diagonal shot after controlling a long ball forward. Christian Vieri got the all-important equaliser before half time, outjumping Binotto to head home Mihajlovic's left-wing corner kick.
It was one-way traffic in the second half as the Nerazzurri imposed their tactical superiority in midfield. The entrance of Alvaro Recoba midway through the half caused further headaches for the visitors and it was El Chino who put Inter ahead with just under ten minutes to play. Zé Maria 's right-wing corner was headed down by Nicolas Burdisso at the far post then from a yard out the Uruguayan forward nudged the ball over the line. Julio Cruz made the result safe three minutes from time with a far-post header from Giorgos Karagounis' right-wing cross.
Inter take on Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion this Wednesday in Matchday 5 of the Uefa Champions League.

Mancini seems to have taken quite a liking to his former squad, yes :p
About Mascherano, they are most probably still tracking him. I would expect most top teams in Europe to be interested in him, he is one hell of a player. I am not so sure he will end up at Real Madrid to be honest (Real are reported as of signed a pre-contract agreement with Mark van Bommel), he was reported as saying he loves the Premiership style of play, and would like a move there. If Edu leaves Arsenal, he would be a superb replacement speaking from an Arsenal fans point of view, completely unbiased of course

Well, I will help you, Jony. Adriano and Veron both had very good games and Inter did enough to beat a weak Porto side. Congrats, Inter!
Good to see the emperor is back. If Juve doesn't win it, I wish Inter does. My ultimate draw would be:
Juve - Chelsea (and us punishing them)
Inter - Milan (and inter avenging the Milanese Darby)
Hmm...
BTW don't you think your defense is just, how to say it, shocking? Where was Cordoba (the only defensive point of light)? Sinisa, Marco, and that nitwit Ze Maria (did you see him kicking the ball out of Toldo's hands? what a dolt...) are not up to standard (as defenders: Sinisa is a gifted free kick taker, Materazzi can still serve as a bouncer in a local bar). Ze Maria - whatever. I mean, with players like Javier Zanetti, Veron and Cambiasso in the midfield the defense's work shouldn't be too hard, but whenever they are challenged it's a call for trouble.

Yes, its true we have the weakest defense in the whole CL. Thankfully Cordoba will return for the next match, he didn't play in this one because of a suspension. Materrazi is probably the worst Italian defender I have ever seen...we should get rid of hims somehow. Anyway I hope that if Inter doesn't win it, Juve does. I just can't stand Mulan and Chel$ki.
Also remember Zanetti (Cristiano) played on the left side, which he is totally unacustomed to...
with Favalli and Cordoba your defense looks better, it's all a matter of crappy crappy luck for you guys not to do better in the run for the scudetto...
I mean Adriano scored 21 on 24 matches in the beginning, and then... nada. Vieri and Martins were there to provide the draws, but after watching Adriano last night I know that Inter needed him in shape, badly. also notice how Porto's new formation didn't do any good for them...
Anyway, the only sad point was to see Martins yearning for that pass (Adriano's third) and the big guy just curving it in... the look on Martins face was tragic...

^^^I never saw that match, but I don't want to think about it!^^^
& it was in the league.
I think Inter have the Coppa Italia in the bag, seeing as there is no Milan left & Juve got knocked out ages ago.
& I think Inter could win the Champions League this season. If we can get past Milan, then beat the winner of Lyon/PSV, then I think that being in the final against either Bayern, Chelsea or Juve (Liverpool are as good as knocked out) & if Bayern or Juve get to the final, I say Inter could beat both of them. But the gay thing is Adriano is injured for another month, after he was getting back into his groove.

Since Inter beat Juve 1:0 at the Crappy Alpi today...I decided to revive the thread. Here is a quick analys of the game from Inter.it
"TURIN - Inter beat Serie A leaders Juventus 1-0 at the Delle Alpi on Wednesday to consolidate third spot in the table thanks to a first-half goal by Julio Cruz.
Ibrahimovic used his head in the early stages of a first half which saw five yellow cards produced by referee De Santis, mistaking Cordoba and Mihajlovic's bonces for the ball.
But El Jardinero used his rather more effectively in the 25th minute when he beat Birindelli to Ze Maria's outswinging right-wing cross then directed his header past Buffon and into bottom right-hand corner.
The Nerazzurri defence remained compact in a Bianconeri-dominated second half, and Francesco Toldo was brilliant between the posts with crucial saves from Camoranesi and Ibrahimovic, who went closest to an equaliser on 62 minutes when his spectacular volley shaved the post.
JUVENTUS 0-1 INTER (HT: 0-1)
Scorer: Cruz 25
JUVENTUS: 1 Buffon, 8 Emerson (20 Blasi 53), 9 Ibrahimovic, 10 Del Piero (25 Zalayeta 71), 11 Nedved, 15 Birindelli (34 Masiello 57), 16 Camoranesi, 18 Appiah, 19 Zambrotta, 21 Thuram, 28 Cannavaro
Subs not used: 12 Chimenti, 3 Tacchinardi, 23 Kapo, 24 Olivera
Coach: Fabio Capello
INTER: 1 Toldo, 2 Cordoba, 4 J.Zanetti, 6 C.Zanetti, 9 Cruz (32 Vieri 76), 11 Mihajlovic, 13 Ze Maria, 16 Favalli, 18 Kily Gonzalez (25 Stankovic 80), 19 Cambiasso, 30 Martins (21 Karagounis 90+1)
Subs not used: 15 Carini, 5 Emre, 24 Gamarra, 49 Andreolli
Coach: Roberto Mancini
Referee: Massimo De Santis
Bookings: Ibrahimovic 15, Favalli 21, Cordoba 22, Thuram 29, Cambiasso 44, C.Zanetti 58, Nedved 71, Toldo 80"
Now about the game...I only saw the match from the 70th minute till the end so I can't comment on what happened earlier. Juve were better, but that was understandable since they were the home team(more on that later) and were a goal down. Ibrahimovich is a good player but he likes to "headbutt" people...I don't know why...:) I heard that Juve hit the crossbar twice...but luck was not on their side apparantly. Great win for Inter, and even greater one for Milan who are back in the race. About the Delle Alpi...the stadium was half-empty, which is embarrasing for the "Derby de Italia" and for a team that claims to be the most popular in Italy. One could hear the crowd chanting "Inter" throughout the match....just pathetic in terms of Juve 's fans. Tsk-tsk-tsk. Maybe they are tired to watch the referees to decided the games for them and just gave up the agony of watching their team in reality. We will never know.

in the first half inter dominated, but they only needed to defend for the 2nd half, so thats why Juve dominated
Yeah Inter played great in the first 30 mins or so. Juve seem to have a creativity problem vs. teams who know how to defend well. Plus Buffon should've got that header. Something is not the same with him. Good game by Cordoba. I didn't like the reffing, thought Juve were up for a peno, but I don't really think I'll find any consent in this thread.

I particularly liked that closeline by Zlatan not to mention the headbutt on Milhaljovic classy stuff. :D
Yeah. That's what I'm talking about. 2 serbs fighting in the Delle Alpi. Classic.
BTW that elbow to Cordoba's throat was disgusting. I hope they want ban him for 3 matches or something. But the header to Sinisa? Pfft. A big act.
We are the better team and proved it!
Hopefully we can now go on unbeaten till the end of the season and secure third place.
As of next season we will win ethir Serie A or Champs League!

Juve have been following Recoba for years now. Maybe this is the chance to get him in our grasp. I would love to see the guy play for us. On the other hand, then we could have a problem with left-sided attackers; Del Piero, Cassano and Recoba
Heres a mock Inter top. Its similar to the Juve one I did but that what Nike do they make the tops nearly exactly the same.

I know I am bring this back from the dead but I just want to say my thoughts on the new signings:
Veron: He has showed he is worth his place last season, when he was one of Inter's best players.
David Pizzaro: Is actually a great player, although I am sure alot of people don't know alot about him. Was a good player at Udinese, and I am sure he will put in the same super performances at Inter.
Wome: I am spectacle, not sure he was the right man to sign, has never really settled at a club and is a bit of a risk, but I suppose we got him on a free. Hit and miss wither he is good or not.
Julio Cesar: To be honest I don't know alot about him, but I asked a Brazilian guy and he said he was a solid keeper and should do well.
Solari: Never got the credit he deserved at Real Madrid, and is very much underated. He is a very useful player to have in your team, and I think he will turn out like Cambiasso and be a very imporantplayer for us this season.
Samuel: Has very bad rep now cause he had one "average" season at Real Marid. That can't take away from the great season's he had at Roma, in Serie A and before then. I think he will re-establish himself as one of the world's finest defenders.
Figo: What can you say, the man is a class act. He is world class, and I think he will relish the new challenge at Inter. I also think he is passionate about the club, having siad, "I was born to play for Inter," and has also stated he wants to win things at us.

i just wanted to say something about pizarro. many people dont know him but i got the chance to watch him play in some preseason games. the man's got skill, let me tell you. he's gonna provide inter with tactical intelligence and organization. to tell u the truth, i think he's the best signing inter's made this offseason
I know I am bring this back from the dead but I just want to say my thoughts on the new signings:
Great time to revive this thread buddy, I bet many of us were gonna do so as well.
Anyway, it seems like Inter are the new Real Madrid  after the signing of four Real Madrid players - Cambiasso, Solari, Samuel and Figo - in the last 12 months. Shockingly only Solari cost Inter some cash, and at £3.5m he was only bought at a bargain price.
Samuel should improve Inter's defence tremendously. His poor season in La Liga shouldn't serve to drop his confidence but instead spur him on further to produce better performances to prove to Real Madrid that the £18m spent on him was worth the cash.
The thought of Figo playing alongside Veron in midfield is also interesting.
Hope the four former Real Madrid guys all start :) Samuel at centre-back, Solari at left-back, Figo on the right wing and Cambiasso in midfield. That'll be exciting to watch, especially against Real Madrid :D
who is Wome ?
A Camaroonian (SP) left back, has been with a number of clubs.
@Figo10, I think that Solari will be playing at left mid, not 100% though.

Don't worry, Penyon. I've seen Cesar in action a few times, amd he's an excellent goalkeeper. The only reason he isn't Brazil's no.1 is because it's Dida between the sticks.
Gomes should be 2nd choice, not Cesar.
Gomes should be 2nd choice, not Cesar.
Barry you are only saying that cause Gomes plays in Holland. :P
I doubt you have seen alot of Cesar Barry, I have heard good things of him so I think he should be in as 1st choice infront of Toldo.
No worries, he plays for a team I sincerely hate, so no chauvinism involved here :D
I have to admit I havent seen Cesar alot no, but Gomes is solid as a rock, incredible reflexes. Brazil doesnt seem to have a lack of good/great keepers at the moment :)
Inter take a two-goal advantage over Shakhtar into the Champions League third qualifying round return leg behind closed doors thanks to efforts from Martins and Adriano at a packed Olympic Stadium in Donetsk on Wednesday.
The Nerazzurri strike partners stunned Shakhtar with two splendid second-half goals that see Mancini's men with a foot in the Champions League group stage draw.
Shakhtar started strongly and had a good chance on five minutes when Brazilian striker Brandao outjumped Javier Zanetti to head wide Matuzalem's cross.
Inter had two penalty claims turned down as both Martins and Stankovic were fouled in the Donetsk box, then went close to taking the lead four minutes before the break when Materazzi's header from Veron's corner came back off the crossbar.
Playing their 100th Champions League/European Cup match, the Nerazzurri upped their game after the restart and took the upper hand on 67 minutes when Obafemi Martins sprinted past Barcauan to meet Adriano's exquisite backheeled pass and slot under Lastuvka.
Eleven minutes after Martins' opener Adriano equalled compatriot Jair's tally of eleven goals in Europe's most prestigious cup competition, rising above Srna to head home Zé Maria 's pin-point outswinger from the right flank.
Adriano provided Esteban Cambiasso with a golden opportunity to make it 3-0 five minutes from time but the Argentine sent his first-time shot wide.

Good result, as The Ukarine is by no means the easiest place to go. The Martins-Adriano partnership seems to be working a treat and the thought: Bobo (Vieri) who? come to mind.
I know people will think I am just saying this, but I think this is our year.
The new signings are all good players and the squad looks very good this year, and I hope that Recoba can find his place in the team, and get good form, as he is one of the most talanted players in the world, just needs a good few performances under his belt. He has showed on numerous occasions that he has a magical left foot, probably the best in the world, and he is rated very highly by me.
Back on topic of the Champions League, next leg should not be too much work in the empty San Siro.
Ohh and here is a nice little statement by (The King) Adriano:
A visibly satisfied Adriano recounted Inter's 2-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk. "It was a nice evening; I'm very pleased about our victory and the way the team played," the Brazilian said. "Now we want to continue like this for the whole season. We want to play, win and be happy on the pitch like tonight."
Figo-unhappy (bad move, he is done)
Figo: What can you say, the man is a class act. He is world class, and I think he will relish the new challenge at Inter. I also think he is passionate about the club, having siad, "I was born to play for Inter," and has also stated he wants to win things at us.
Your opinion soon changed. And anyway, about Figo saying he was born to play for Inter, all players say their new club is the best thing since sliced bread, just to make the fans like them. And you are gullible enough to believe him, which is especially stupid because he is not very trustworthy, as his previous transfer shew.

Yeah, I admit at first I was spectical, but his attitude to the club has been great, he looks in great shape now and wants to win.
I thought he was just going to be coming for the money, but after his comments to the press (inter.it) I have changed my mind on him.

I would definitely say that, whilst Inter always have "a good squad for this season", for once it looks properly rounded. There are a depth of options, particularly in midfield, but Figo needs to stop his tantrums - that would be typical Inter undoing - and if Samuel gets injured, the defence could look a bit suspect. Recoba needs to be a hell of a lot more consistent too, especially if Adriano or Martins suffer injury. Inter certainly will be in the running - and will keep up all the way in my opinion. Keep up with who? Juventus.

Some good points there, although Samuel will be one of the first choice centre backs, I would still say Cordoba is still the top man when it comes to centre back, well at least untill Samuel proves himself.
We also have Cruz for cover up from, who is very much underated by most non inter fans.

We all know Juve don't deserve many of their victories. Considering my fav Serie A team is Roma,it means I have to look to other teams to pip Juve for the title. There are only two ways to do that: Either outplay them for most of the season(like Milan did season before last) or send hot girls to sleep with the refs more than Juve do. Anyway, I hope Inter fianlly deliver on the promise of all the signings. Figo is one of my favourite players, and hopfully he will drive Inter to that ever-elusive tilte.

that martins goal from adriano's heel pass was really something if any of you saw it, from the preliminary champions league game. anyway, do you think inter should play a 4-2-3-1 with cambiasso-pizarro, stankovic-veron-figo, and adriano as lone striker (so pizarro and veron can play together), or a 4-4-2 with solari-cambiasso-pizarro-figo, and adriano-martins as strikers?
does inter have a back up striker ? if adriano or martins or cruz is injured

11-08-2005, 08:30
Pier69, Recoba. I believe there is a fifth as well, but probably one of those "you're not going to get a game unless we're desperate" ones.
Penyon, I agree, Cruz is underrated. I wouldn't necessarily want him at Milan, but he does a good job for Inter and scores some crucial goals.
I can see Inter playing with one up-front in some matches if either Martins or Adriano is unfit. They can pack the midfield with Figo, Cambiasso, Pizarro, Solari and Stankovic. Two, good passers, to sit deep (Cambiasso and Pizarro) and the other three spread across the pitch behind the lone striker.
Cordoba-Samuel will be a good central defensive parTnership but Cordoba may be used at left-back in order to incorporate Burdisso alongside Samuel. We all know who the right-back will be ;) (for those who don't or have forgotten, its Javier Zanetti, but don't ever let me catch you forgetting him or I'll scream - he is an unsung hero). Of course, Solari may be pushed back as an attacking left wing-back and Recoba employed on left-wing.............the possibilities are plentiful

Mancini is wanting to play a 4-4-2, so I would say the last option. I agree with Sweey, there are alot of possiblities that we have, and the formation could be changed easily for certain games. personally I am not sure who the centre two will be, as I think it will be Cambiasso and either Veron or Pizzaro, but it will be a hard one having to choose as both players are very good.
Also here is an interesting bit of news:
Zalayeta offered for Zanetti
Juventus are set to offer Inter the services of Marcelo Zalayeta in an effort to land Cristiano Zanetti.
The latter is known to be a target for the Bianconeri after working with boss Fabio Capello at Roma in the past.
Zanetti (pictured) has been linked with the Turin giants for some time who seem to be looking for a new central midfielder.
Although Patrick Vieira and Giuliano Giannichedda have replaced Stephen Appiah and Alessio Tacchinardi this summer, there could be more changes to the Old Lady’s squad.
It is already believed that the champions have offered Fabrizio Miccoli to the San Siro outfit in return for Zanetti.
But it now seems that the Stadio Delle Alpi side are ready to sacrifice Zalayeta as the Nerazzurri continue to look for a new striker.
Boss Roberto Mancini is still one forward short after the departure of Christian Vieri to Milan this summer.
Zanetti’s proposed move to Juventus could still be on as the former Fiorentina player didn’t play in the Champions League last night.
Don't know what you make of this, but personally I don't want Zalayeta, I think we should ask for Miccoli than stead, as I rate him much higher and is less dodge than Zalayeta.
Wouldn't be too sad to see C.Zanetti go, as I have never personally though he was that great, although I either want some good money for him, or a decent player like Miccoli in his place.

yes but do you think that, just like realmadrid, inter will be a club stacked with stars that can't form a cohesive unit? Or do you have faith that Mancini can make all these great players play together as a team? And remember, it has been 16 years since our last scudetto, and we've had our share of legendary players during that time span, and no one has been able to accomplish the impossible since 1989. The only way we can win is if Mancio builds a "team-oriented" squad as opposed to an individual-oriented one.

hey, a curious thought came into my mind. there have been rumors that florentino perez has proposed a ronaldo-adriano trade with moratti the past couple of weeks. moratti completely ignored the proposed trade saying it was "fantasy market." would you guys welcome ronaldo back in place of adriano? personally, ronaldo was my favorite player ever and I was heartbroken when he left our side. but as you can see from my username, i'm a big fan of adriano too, and i'm not sure. do u think its a fair trade? Ideally, I would love to have both adriano and ronaldo on our team at the same time, arguably the greatest strikers in the game today.

I don't think Inter fans would ever consider having Ronaldo back in place of Adriano. Ever. I don't think they'd consider it a fair trade either. Ronaldo will never be what he was prior to those injuries and does have an ego problem. Adriano doesn't have such an ego yet and is a strong, powerful, and most importantly much younger player who is very much expected to keep improving.
Quality, I am starting to like this Inter - Real Madrid conection. :D
Yeah hopefully they meet in the knockout stages too
Having good relations with Roma was very important. They were very kind to us, fielding a 2nd string team against us and losing 3-0 at home knowing Real have to win to progress and they had nothing to play for.
Maybe Inter could do the same? :D
Btw Carlos and Ronaldo were previously Inter players as well, and the two clubs haven't met for quite some time, so it should be an exciting clash potentially :D

Mancini opens new Inter era Sunday 21 August, 2005
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roberto Mancini was beaming after earning his second trophy with Inter and is already looking ahead to the next challenge.
“I really believe we played a great game,” said Mancio following the 1-0 extra time victory at the Stadio Delle Alpi. “We deserved to take this trophy.”
Juan Sebastian Veron scored the decisive goal after 96 minutes of play, giving the Nerazzurri only their second edition of the Italian version of the Charity Shield – their first since 1989.
“I am very happy, because it was tough encounter. We must also realise that we’re not 100 per cent fit yet and still managed to deliver after 120 minutes against an excellent Juventus outfit in their own back yard.”
Some critics felt that Mancini lacked the necessary experience to guide such a traditionally troubled side, but in a year he has already lifted the Coppa Italia and Italian Supercup. It’s quite an achievement if you note that the club had remained empty-handed for the previous seven years.
Now the next challenge is to qualify for the Champions League proper, hoping to consolidate their 2-0 first leg lead over Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday.
“We’ll start thinking about that test now, but it won’t be an easy task despite the result we picked up in the Ukraine,” he added.
Match-winner Juan Sebastian Veron was particularly content at the final whistle of an epic battle in Turin.
“Apart from the goal, it was a real fight for every ball right up until the end,” said the former Chelsea star. “Everyone in that Stadium felt they needed victory and this result gives us the confidence to work towards improving ourselves. We want to win more silverware and this is just the beginning for Inter.”
This was a special moment for Inter captain Javier Zanetti, who missed out on June’s Coppa Italia celebrations due to his Confederations Cup commitments.
“We all deserved this for the hard work we’ve put in,” said the Nerazzurri legend. “It was a great performance and everyone gave 100 per cent. Playing against Juventus is always a tense affair and both teams were determined to win.”
The two rivals will meet again in the Derby d’Italia in Serie A Week 6.

Patrice Evra has pledged his commitment to Monaco despite attracting interest from a number of clubs.
The French international was strongly linked with a move away from Stade Louis II during the summer, but he has decided to stay with Monaco.
Liverpool were credited with an interest in the talented full back, but Evra admits he was only aware of interest from Italian giants Internazionale.
"People talked about big clubs, it is true," Evra told L'Equipe.
"I don't know about Liverpool. Internazionale were more precise.
"But I have my mind at Monaco. I am happy to be able to stay to show I can play better than last season."
Evra is a good player, I would like it if we could buy him soon.

Palermo are an attacking side - Del Neri is an attacking coach - and Makinwa is an excellent striker. Inter were never invincible despite the impression some people would have given you after their opening day win (not necessarily all people from here).
I might be wrong, but I think the title-chasers will drop more points this season than they have in the last couple.

only inter. only inter can win their first match 3-0 and then play their next game and lose 3-2 (which should have really been 3-0). every time you think that they finally put the pieces into place, they show u a glimpse of the inter of old. i tell you, following the inter season is like following a soap opera, or like riding a roller coaster...it's always the same.

It is still early days though. Tons of football to be played, though I do think they'll need to concentrate on either Serie A or the Champions League and not both equally.

I commented on Juventus' win at Empoli (over on G4G) to which i was told that Empoli are nowhere near as good as Palermo. All too true, but it still isn't the mark of the supposed upcoming Serie A and CL winners.
twas a bad match. tsk. anwyay, its not over, so much to play for still. i know inter can bounce back. they will now be pumped up for their game against Artmedia. beware of Adriano. Forza Inter.
To any of you who watched te 1-0 Champions League away win, what do you think of the performances of former Real Madrid players Samuel and Figo?
Why was Cambiasso not started and where was Santi Solari?

How did Adriano put that one over the bar... he needs to work on his right foot. Some free kick off the post tho.

Just cause you played for Real Madrid doesn't mean you auto get a game. Although both are classy players, but might have been rested cause the quality of opposition we were playing. ;)

yup exactly. Adriano just had an off night in shooting, but atleast he assisted the goal. And came close twice.

Penyon and nikos24, you guys are talking about a man that waas Real's most underrated player EVER ( Solari ). Whenever he turned out for Madrid, he always provided a good link between the midfield and attack, and showed good skill on the ball. Then Zidane came along................... Anyway, I wish Inter good luck this season, especially now they have one of my all-time favourite players(Figo).

Yep, I agree Solari is a great player and should be in the team, all I am saying is that remember the team we were playing, we were probably just "resting" them, although the quality of the side we put out was top notch. We have some squad, so a few players will have to sit on the bench ocassionally.
P.S. I think all the players we have got from Real Madrid over the past 2 years have been top quality so far. (Cambiasso surprised me the most last year, now I consider him one of the best DMF's in europe. :) )
Baggio offered Inter role Thursday 15 September, 2005
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inter chief Massimo Moratti has opened the door for Roberto Baggio to fulfil his ambition of returning to the game.
The legendary figure this morning confirmed that he wants to get back into the football world and Moratti is ready to make that happen.
"There will always be room for him at Inter," stated the Nerazzurri owner on Thursday evening.
"It is only normal and logical for a person like him. We would be honoured if he came here. We would decide together on what role he would take up."
Baggio has a splendid relationship with Moratti after spending two years at the San Siro between 1998 and 2000, even if he wasn’t a big hit with then boss Marcello Lippi.
The Azzurri great did suggest that he was looking for a coaching role, but Moratti is unlikely to offer him Roberto Mancini’s job.
Despite the 3-2 loss at Palermo on Saturday, Moratti still has great confidence in the ex-Samp man following the 1-0 win against Artmedia on Tuesday.
"We put in a good response after our knock out at Palermo and that wasn’t easy," continued the oil baron.
"It was a tough game psychologically, but I am satisfied even if we did have to struggle right until the very end.
"I didn’t like much after Palermo but the side continues to work seriously and I like that a lot.
"I’m convinced that we have some good material to work with here and therefore we can do well."
Legend, hope we give him a decent coaching role. :D

He can take over from Ancelotti next summer if we (evil bastards from across the city) don't get Van Basten :D

no doubt bro. But you know Madrid's attitude.Solari doesnt sound "world class" so they mostly bench him. But i agree, whenever he comes on "he makes good passes and starts linking up with the other players and brings the game back to life" Dont worry, Figo is much better here in Inter. Confident he will make you proud at the end of the season. ;)

Yeah. Can be VERY influential aswell with the players. Legend indeed. :)
