What do you guys do to get back into shape for the beginning of the season. I am going to start back on my team in a while, so I need to get into shape, anyone know the best way to do this?

I have been going to the park with a few friends kicking it around and shooting, but I need my stamina. Any suggestions?

Simple, running, not sprinting, try long distance jogs.

Also, if you can get a few mates, about 5 or 6, find a really steep, but not too long hill and sprint up, then jog down, then the next person goes.

That's how I've been getting in shape for my rugby team. The thing with the hill is hell btw.

With my college team, we've been running for 12 minutes every day right before practice. Doesn't sound like much, but when it's 100 plus out and humid it is exhausting at first. Aim to run two miles in that 12 minutes, it may be difficult when you first start out but after a few weeks most of my team can do 9 laps (3600m) in 12 minutes. If you can run two miles in 12 minutes, stay hydrated, and get lots of rest, you should be in good enough shape to last for 90 minutes, even in a day game.

Great for my team because we really don't have much talent outside of our starting XI.

Thanks guys. I just feel really drained after like 40 minutes of stuff. I don't know why really, cause my stamina got a lot better after playing for my High School team, so when I went to my club I did pretty well, now I just feel out of it.

Is that all you do to get back into shape for your teams?

P.S. - A lot of college teams in Arizona run in the mountains, especially South Mountain. This is NOT advisable.

The trails are littered with all kinds of rocks, it's hard to get water/medical attention to someone who's stranded, and it increases the chance for injuries.

Mountain-running is great but not in the summer, and it's not for everyone. I train on my own on the mountain behind my house, but I mostly do uphill stair climbing to build up my leg strength and sprints, on a steep mountain, going downhill, to improve foot-eye coordination, agility, and foot speed. There's nothing like running down a 500 foot hill in under a minute, leaping over cacti and dodging jagged rocks. Note: make sure you can do this without getting hurt before trying.

In short, if you want to build stamina, stick to the tracks and parks. The mountains are good for building strength and agility.

Ya our track team goes and runs either South Mountain or that other funky looking mountain. I can't recall the name. I just need to get my speed and stamina back. I am thinking about doing a few laps around my block a day.

the best way is to set out a 100 metre x 50 metre rectangle.. and then what you do is jog around 1 once.. and then sprint 50.. and then jog the rest.. keep adding 50 metres to the sprint. until you're sprint the whole 300 metres... this is what our coach has us doing for League training.. and it seems to work.. it fucks ya but.. that 300 metre sprint... fuck it is rough.. and i recommend just run lots...

At my High School we would jog half of the side line then sprint the next half the jog to line behind the goal then sprint the next part, repeat it. When we got into trouble we would jog part of the field then sprint diagonally across then jog the straight part then sprint diagonally across.

sprints are good too... sprint 10.. run backwards back to the start.. and add 10 until u reach 100.. it means you don't have wait as long to go hard again after going hard..

I have done the things you are taking about 101st. They are kinda nice. They are semi-realistic I think. Cause it isn't a constant sprint and you get to rest before you run again.

yea.. it fucks ya though.. it is one of the hardest things to do.. i would almost rather go for a long run.. your legs just hurt like hell afterwards but it is good for you..

our fball season started last wkend and we trained 6 wks previous to this have played 2 games and feel great.

our pre-season training consisted of 40 min runs along sand dunes (we live by the sea), sprint work, shuttles, etc, up and down small hills.

This one is good for stamina and will get you fit "INCREASE DEMANDS"

set 4 cones 40-50 yards apart in a square shape.

1: jog one complete lap
2: when you get to the 1st cone sprint to the next cone and jog the remaining lap.
3: when you get to the first cone sprint 2 cones and jog remaining lap.
4: when you get to the 1st cone sprint 3 cones and jog remaining lap.
5: when you reach the 1st cone jog to the 2nd cone and sprint a full lap until you reach the 2nd cone where you started the full lap sprint
6: when you reach the 2nd cone jog a complete lap as a war.m down.

if you are looking to diet try the GI diet, low carbs high protein, most of our team has been on this and the results along with training 3 times a week and going to gym in between have been brilliant.

yea.. that running thingy is what i said.. but we make the cones further apart.. it is difficult enough to complete it.. but.. i recommend the gym too.. it is fun.. and it works great...

our season starts in a couple of weeks and so far in training we've been rapidly getting back into shape. The other night we had to do

40minute jog
shuttle runs for fookin ages
200m sprint
then we did ball skills etc. but after that i felt like dieing!

another thing to do is just get some of your mates and go joggin together, thats what about me and 6 other friends do. We jog the whole perimeter of the town, then sprint up the main street (which is damn steep).

your training sounds spot on very similar to ours, we use a 400m running track and have relays on it, jog 100 sprint 100, have rest while other team jogs 100, sprint 100. them increase demands sound very similar im shocking at judging distance, my mate just looked at my thread and he said we do something very similar to use in distance. do you play at a decent level? we have lancashire fa coaches with us which is brilliant as the training is always different, fun and most importantly enjoyable!

we use this for rugby league.. there is no football team up here for anyone over the age of 14 :( but i play league at a decent level.. and i should have been in the regional team.. but i was unable to make it to the trials.. but.. our coachis a fitness fanatic.. coz that is the thing we lack the most.. and it is also what our opponents lack the most.. so if we can beat them in that.. it makes it a hell of a lot easier to beat them...

Run. Then do some running. Then after that, do some running. Once you finished your running, go for a run. Then finish off with a nice long run.
Get the idea? It's a bitch, but the best way.

my pre season trainin(running wise) was mostly this./.........
1.get into groups of ten
2.there are cones spread ot into a square shape 40-50m apart
3.the 1st person in the group starts to run around it, by the time he gets bakc to the group the next player joins on an so on and so on.....then when all the 10 players are on the pitch running around the square one person drops off for a rest then tafter another lap the next person drops off and then you end up back at the start again......get a couple of minutes for a breather then the same again.....we did it about 3-5 times a training session but we also done ball work etc. as well
the killer thing about it is you need to do one lap jogging next lap 3/4 pace , then jogging then 3/4 pace.....its murder lol...keeps ya fit though ;)

i need help on curling the ball... the last time I took a corner kick, the ball only curl a bit!

Original?

Jogging is actually bad for you as it puts alot of strain on your knees and ankles, long distance jogs are definitely not advisable. A short sprint then quick walking quick sprinting is much better.

To the ball curling thing, which way do you curl? Like which foot do you use? I am not too grand at curling but I can certainly put it sorta where I want it. I just take a few steps to the side and back and then try to kinda slice my foot. I like to curve it near post. Far post takes more skill I think. I hope that that kinda helped....

Stand to the side of the ball and hit it with the inner part of your foot, lean back. I have no idea what you have a problem with so I am just mentioning things.

i can curl the ball heaps.. but i don't really know how to explain it..

Highway Penguin

It is kinda hard to. You have to be there to show them I think. Just practise that is all I can say.

-=[101st]=-
20-08-2004, 09:23
yea.. you have to sorta have a more circular motion.. but not too circular.. very difficult to explain... it is one of those things where u need to go down and practise..

To get into shape, why not run up and down the stairs in your house? It's a bit knackering and dangerous though.

i'm a right footer.. i curl the ball from right to left.. if you do not understand, play WE8/WE7 or whatever, take a corner(on the left) and use a right footer

Getting into shape for the season? Isnt that what friendlies are for? My team are playing a load of friendlies against the best junior teams in the city. All we realy do is chase them for the whole 90 minutes :o

Running round the park is your best bet, although try and do it on a regular basis.
