England's 23-man squad to face Austria and Poland:
Goalkeepers: James (Man City), Robinson (Tottenham), Green (Norwich).
Defenders: G Neville (Man Utd), A Cole (Arsenal), Bridge (Chelsea), Terry (Chelsea), King (Tottenham), Carragher (Liverpool), Upson (Birmingham).
Midfielders: Beckham (Real Madrid), Lampard (Chelsea), Gerrard (Liverpool), Dyer (Newcastle), Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Butt (Newcastle), Wright-Phillips (Man City), J Cole (Chelsea), Jenas (Newcastle).
Strikers: Owen (Real Madrid), Vassell (Aston Villa), Defoe (Tottenham), Smith (Man Utd).

YAY! Heskey's not there. Lets all celebrate.
Good to see Eriksson picking some youngsters and dropping shit like Phil Neville and Heskey. I think Wright-Phillips is injured but good to see Jenas, Joe Cole, Defoe and Upson in it.

However, how people like Butt and Dyer get in the squad is still beyond me. I think James should be replaced by Robinson to see how he does.

No real surprises there, pretty solid squad. We could well miss Campbell's experience in central defence but we should be ok.

It looks like a good squad. The defense looks really young though. Looks to be interesting.

Isn't he kinda old? Do you think that England might be building for the future? I think that a lot of teams are doing this, just cause this is the last year a lot of their "stars" will be playing. Brazil did it, and so did Argentina. Infact a lot of S. American teams in Copa America did.

But Scholes is a good player. :)

I was hoping that he’d select Barry.

Scholes' England peformances over the last few years haven't quite matched his Man Utd standards, his retirement was a surprise but he won't be sorely missed.

Wright-Phillips is in the squad...

I fully expect the team to be the one that started against Ukraine, Carragher might possibly play ahead of King but that's all.

wonder if Smith will be in the starting XI, he deserves it

Yeah I'd start him and Defoe in front. However I'd love to see King play more.

national teams need to do that once in a while.. off topic.. sorta.. but.. the NZ rugby tem did it.. and then the next year blitz the world for the next season.. so i think that it is a good thing... youth is the way of the future after all... (ooo.. i know shocking cliche.. )

Will he be able to cope with internatioonal football after 9 months out? I doubt it.

Wright-Phillips is back in training and should be fit.

Nicky Butt is out, that will hopefully mean Gerrard & Lampard will play in the middle with maybe Bridge or Cole on the left of midfield.
