when i mentioned beckham as in the top 5 players in the world, people on this site said hes not that good, or quote ghandi, i know u like him but hes not that good, and quote sherringham he is crap. How could they say this he has scored so many goals ( and each one brill or even some could be mentioned as the greatest of all time) e.g chip from half way line against wimbledon.
when he took on about 4 real madrid players and curled it top corner ( in 2000 i think) also all the free kicks he scores. also he is a great captain for england. people that say he is rubbish are just jealous or are in denial as he one of the best midfielders and players in the world.

mate! even as a man u fan i still think beckham ain't a great yet.............maybe the best set-piece specialist in the world but not a great!!!!!
his popularity seems to keep growing but his on-pitch skills haven't improved.

This is not true, he does maybe belong to the top 50 but not top 5. What did HE do at United, besides scoring (without a doubt) beautiful goals? What did HE do what Van Nistelrooy, Scholes, Giggs, Keane didn't for United? Or Scholl, Kahn, Lizarazu, Elber did for Munich? Vieri, Recoba, Cordoba, Ronaldo didn't for Inter? Raul, Zidane, Figo, R.Carlos did not do for Real?
What is it that he did in his still ongoing career what so many didn't for other great clubs for long, long times? There are sooo many better players than him.

There are so many great players on this planet, playing well, playing great for their clubs. Beckham surely is not a bad player, but there are just so many better players. If it is YOUR opinion that David Beckham was responsible for all the success ManU had in the past years it is your business, but it is just not true and the most of the people on this board know this. Every single board user has his own op.
If they do not count Beckham to their Top 5 players on the globe you'll have to get along with it.
beckham is an excellent player but he is overrated. he is probably in my top 20 but not the top 5. he is a quality player-good all round passer of the ball and very creative and he scores some brilliant goals occassionally. i wouldn't call him a great but he is an excellent player

I disagree with Jan Koller, Hideo Nakata and Duff being better than Becks. I would put him in my top 10 at the moment. It's not just his contribution to Utd but as England capt he has been veryt influential and inspirational. If things go right for him at Real, he can only improve and that can only benefit Real and England.
Jan Koller, Hideo Nakata and Duff being better than Becks????? if all them were better than beckham, Jan Koller wouldnt ba at Dortmund, Nakata wouldnt be at Parma and Duff would have a fee of about 30million. Beckham is a god.

yeah, Becks has got to be in the top 10, and he is much better than Jan Koller. Height doesn't make a player!
Jan Koller is just lanky and scores more goals with his head then left and right feet.

beckham is a gr8 player but i think to cement himself in the world elite, he will have to have a brilliant season with madrid.

david beckham has probably got the best right foot in the game but i think its wrong to call him a great player cause to be honest he is a average player with a very good right foot. I mean he cant dribbile like the likes of Zidane, figo, rivaldo he dont have a geat first touch and he has no flare at all
but he still has a great passin range and he has showed in reals summer tour wich i hav watched all the matches of...dat he is a very gud addition and is a very gud player..
hes not as gud as figo or zidane prb...but sumthin bout him is dat he will play at the same level all season..not like figo zidane who sumtimes dont deliver 4 real against the smaller spanish teams..dat is sumthin becks shud do a lot of..hes very consistent..great crosses and free kicks...if he can show he can be a center mid he shud cement him self as a great real madrid player

granted beckham has a great passing range but i dont think he is as consistant as u say because when does does go up against the like of carlos (which he wont obvioulsy anymore) he is very in affective, as for a centre mid role i dont think is is good enough for that as he lacks alot of creativity needed for the role but he has got good vision though but overall i personally dont think he is a graet player a good one but not a great one
he has got a lot of creativity-it is one of his best strengths. why is jan koller in some peoples lists of great players-he is an average player who scores a few goals in the german league which isn't a very good league anyway. he is good on pes2 though!

i would not say he is creative in a play making role like the players like Ronaldihino (if thats how to spell it), zidane, pires, ockha, rivaldo...even henry is more creative and players alike, but his ability to pick out a man from seventy yards and place the ball in a perfect posistion is great and the fact that he can cross like no one else but for me that is all he has got and in my eyes that does not make him as good as they say he is. i no u must be thining that im a bias arsenal fan but i jus dont think david beckman is that good, i mean can u give david beckman the ball in his own half then expect him to glide past two or three players leaving them for dead and then play defence splitting pass through a defence?...................... . no, can u expect david beckham to score a hat-trick and the last day of the season with a over head kick which he created him self?......................... ................no and can u expect david beckham to score and almost impossible volley with his weaker foot in a champions league final?.....................no. and i no u will say that he scored the free-kick that got england to the world cup against greece and to be honest i will agre with you cause it was a great free-kick just when his country needed it but u see he only a threat from a dead ball situation cause he a free-kick specialist but thats all he has to offer.
all these views were not menat to offend its jus my personal opinion.
Beckham is a good player but he is not one of the greatest ever players. Zidane maybe.

rich, I know u don't rate Becks as a great but it is funny that Wenger said he would have liked to have signed him for Arse if he had the money!
I hope that Becks can make his stooopid bitch wife calm down her publicity seeking and he can concentrate on becoming a great footie player. He has the commitment, potential and talent to become excellent and be in people's top 5. But he has to want it.
He doesn't have pace but neither does Zidane especially or Figo. They don't need it cos they beat players with their skill alone. Beckham can get there but he really needs to get his head down at Real
zidanes a slow coach and people say his speed is under-rated in WE and PES games. figo doesnt know what run means, where as beckham tries to run but doesnt go that fast.

Becks is overated i mean if u dont listen to me .........who u might be thinkin doesn't know shit about football then y dont ya ask the legendary PELE he said it himself that becks is highly rated as a fashion model but cant do n e thing on the pitch (sumffin like that) NOW i dont think n e one in the forums will ever be as good as pele or no more fottball then him !! if u dont belive us then u have to belive a legend!! :)

rebusrahman, i agree that ZZ or figo have not got pace but they make up for that with their intelligence and skill. granted david beckham has a fantastic fitness level and his effort is second to non , but all im saying is that hes is no were near the likes of ZZ

I agree with the majority who say that Becks ain't the greatest... but I have a soft spot for his commitment and his knack of making important contributions. I hope he goes on to become a better player although I heard he didn't have a great one in La Liga?

me too im a big fan of david beckham i mean no one can whip in a ball like becks and the cross for owens goal underlines that, i just hope that this move to real madrid is not step to far for him and that they put too much pressure on the lad. but with all that said he is still a good player and i wish him all the best in Madrids white shirts.

I read that 2 spanish newspapers rated Beckham out of 10 after his first match (Vs Valencia I think) and they both gave hom zero - harsh!
BTW - I missed the highlights for the England match. Where else can I see the goals? I don't have SKy Sports but have access to SKy News. Any ideas appreciated. Cheers.

Apparently very good against Croatia. I think 0 is unfair but they are much harsher than the British media.
