Sounds incredible mate, I couldn't agree more about being so in awe that it actually becomes a bit of a blur, hence why my post was about 3 days after the event.
I really just want to go back and see him again now. Quite like you mind, when he opened with the "Intro" from the Dynasty, not many seemed to know it! Someone I know through a friend was there as well but a good distance away in the arena from me, and apparently thought Hov was freestyling. :faceplm:
We had a pretty 'hefty' guy in front of us really going in, dancing like he was on that Wii Fit diet. Great to see mind, not a care in the world and just going wild. Best believe I was throwing up the Roc (about a million times). :nath:
On the topic of albums leaking, does anyone know if The Roots' How I Got Over has leaked yet?

Thought I'd post this unaired interview from Tupac as it's more than certainly worth a watch if you haven't already seen it. If only we had artists with the same amount of passion in today's industry (although Kanye does show a lot of emotion and passion, it's more for music than for people).

Dudes,
GZA's Liquid Swords is becoming my favorite song rather fast. Could you recommend songs/albums in the similar mould (Bar the album that contains Liquid Swords obv.)? I'm saying mould because I assume you'd know much more than I do about hip-hop, beats, genres and all that. So if you could make some recommendations that would be nice.
Cheers

Thanks for the heads up 'biko. I've re-linked it so that it goes to Wale's official MySpace blog page which also has a link on to download the mixtape. Just thought it's worth proving that the mixtape is a free giveaway and therefore downloading is acceptable here, and it obviously gives Wale's webpage more hits too which is always nice in these circumstances of freebies.
Game's new mixtape "Brake Lights" could be considered an album in some respects, there's some really good tracks on here, definitely album worthy. My favourites so far have to be Trading Places, Street Riders, You Are The Blood and Stadium Music. I've only gave the mixtape a quick run through though, but I can wait a few more weeks now for the R.E.D. Album since Brake Lights will keep me well occupied.

new mix song that ive done
cyVCF7xPTlk
You made that? Because that's a very nice mix, for sure.
I've got a question actually, after recently going through 50's album "The Massacre" again, it's nowhere near as bad as I initially thought, in fact, it's pretty good minus 6 fillers or so out of the 22 songs, but overall the ratio is quite favourable. I'm looking to finally buy the album (I tend to wait until they're cheaper, or buy them if I believe the CD is worth having in my collection). I know 50 Cent released videos for pretty much every song off of The Massacre, the majority were produced on the cheap and are not anything special, but still. My query is that I thought the CD+DVD edition of The Massacre included all of these music videos on the DVD, however I can only seem to find a CD+DVD edition with the DVD side showing 5 videos or so from a live concert in Glasgow. However this link on Amazon states that disc 2 includes 24 tracks, and with no "product reviews" from anyone, I'm not sure if this means they're actually the self-made videos from each of the Massacre's songs, or if it's just an error on Amazon's part.
I'm just seeing if anyone here knows anything about The Massacre being released with all of the songs videos in a special edition? I'm not particularly interested in having 5 videos of 50 Cent performing live in Glasgow to be honest, and think that having the 20 self-produced videos would be better bang for my buck (even though the album is very cheap now anyway).
People can say what they like about Fat Joe and his recent work, but this song simply can't be slept on. Joe only raps for just under 3 minutes, and talks for a bit, but it's real. He really took it to around the way from back in the day. And with the production laced by DJ Premier, it's incredible. This is the beat Premo made the day Guru passed away, and to be honest, it's as you'd expect, heartfelt and incredible. DJ Premier, old school Fat Joe. *claps*

It's a bit of a shame that Joe didn't deliver a 2nd verse on the beat mind as the production certainly deserved it, but it's still a superb song.
I've heard Kanye's bringing out his new mixtape very soon to lead up to his album. I personally can't wait, Kanye puts everything into his music, and I love him for it. He's one of those rare entertainers in Hip-Hop who doesn't particularly care about coming across as hard or invincible, he's showed his weaknesses to the world, and as a result he seems more real and we can relate to it. Not to mention as a live entertainer, he seems to possess a special something.

I took my time and listened to Darkside, Vol. 1. It is a good album, especially when compared to albums like All or Nothing and J.O.S.E., also it's noteworthy that whilst I usually don't like contemporary rap songs that turn into huge hits as they sound nauseating rather than anything special, but (Ha Ha) Slow Down is catchy, most definitely!
Nice to hear you gave The Darkside Vol. 1 a chance, it's definitely worth a listen isn't it.
Just came across this as well, and it's brilliant to say the least:

It's nice to see some greats going at it together, we need more of that in Hip Hop without a doubt. The only possible downside to that clip is that they aren't really freestyling in the cypher in the modern sense of the word. Sure it wouldn't have been as good, but it would have seemed more 'pure'. I remember Rap City before, obviously 95% of rappers don't freestyle in the booth, and actually just spit pre-writtens. But I remember seeing Game in there with Busta Rhymes and another BWS guy and they were genuinely freestyling. It wasn't amazing of course but it was great to see, you could tell they were loving it. I'll try and find the video, I think I posted it a long time ago (I'll just search YouTube mind).
EDIT: Here it is! No embedding mind:

Yeah, I made sure I used "modern" when I was typing to make it a bit clearer. I didn't know that the freestyle word had changed meaning though until I watched the Art of Rhyme documentary a good few months back now. I still think a lot of rappers nowadays though if spitting a freestyle should do it properly, and that can be either way, but a lot actually just perform a 16 bar verse from a mixtape track they've done. Whether you look at the old or new sense of the word freestyle, delivering a verse from a mixtape/album song you've done doesn't fall into either category.

Need some help guys...got a new pc a while ago and that's me just mainly got all of my old music back, however I'm missing one song and it's killin me, cant find it anywhere!
it's from an album I downloaded around 2007 when Jay-Z - American Gangster was released, it was like an album of remixes (unofficial though)
anyway the song is Jay-Z - American Dreamin' (remix) I cant find it for the life of me though, not even on youtube.
The beat sounds kinda similar to the original but it's more laid back and melodic.

I don't understand the point of putting an excerpt from Mozart's Requiem into the intro when he's merely running...might just be me, but that sort of music is reserved for different situations in my opinion. Other than that, looks quite interesting indeed.
Now that a bit of time has passed, it does look fucked
The piano part at 14 minutes sounds like Echoes by Pink Floyd, at least reminds me of that  I might be wrong though.

Kanye's Album is insane and I can already imagine the amount of props etc he'll have at his world tour shows...with the intro definitely being Dark Fantasy!
His last world tour was crazy, they kept bringing this talking robot space thingy down called 'Jane' and she'd basically introduce some of the songs - but the way it was done was a masterpiece tbh. The introduction for Through The Wire made the place go off!

Yeah, thought that was kind of over-rated tbh - but I guess I'm in the minority. I just prefer prepared writtens nowadays. Was impressive freestyling though, no doubt.
Agreed but when they have had freestyling battles in recent times they've always been rather weak and boring so it was nice to see one where both battlers had a great flow with punchlines rather than loads of filler.

Oh I know what you mean, he didn't have much choice though. Either make a more commercial album, or you won't be releasing an album.
Shame really. My copies on Ebay already though, which is something I never do, but the whole album just annoys me because of what it represents.

http://www.fwcthatchurch.org/praise-worship/worship.jpgI listened to that for the first time a couple of days ago.
I must admit, I was massively disappointed, and if that's the best he can come up with during a 12 year hiatus, then Detox won't be a patch on The Chronic or 2001.
It won't be nothing like The Chronic or 2001 (probably my favourite album of all time). If you don't expect much, then you won't be disappointed. I thought 'Kush' was okay, it at least sounded like Dre. Fact is, he's tarnished his reputation as one of the hiphop greats by pulling this Detox shit and well, if it is shit, then fans will not forgive him. I wont.
And that has to be one of the worst videos i've seen from my favourite rappers. What the fuck are they doing?
Will this album by laden with ghost producers as well? ;)
And that has to be one of the worst videos i've seen from my favourite rappers. What the fuck are they doing?
GTFO.
The song isn't particularly amazing, but the video itself is pretty damn good, and helps put the emotion that the song has into perspective.
Kush was a grower, the first time I heard it I was underwhelmed but the more I listen to it, the more I love it. Just a soothing head bopper. If it featured Nate instead of Akon I doubt many would even question it's credentials. Of course we'd have all loved Nate to be on it, but Akon still does a decent job, otherwise Dre would have recast the feature.
There's no way Detox will match The Chronic or 2001. If anyone thinks he's spent 12 years on it too they're mental. He's probably spent about 3-4 years on it realistically, but obviously scrapped the vast majority of songs made for it. It'll probably feel like a forced album, but I've no doubt people will appreciate Detox more so over time when they realise they need to appreciate it for what it is (or probably will be); a solid album in that sense. It'll never match the hype, never, and obviously everyone will be disappointed...initially. Over time though, I'm sure everyone will warm to it.
Has Dre been on the roids btw?
Okay. The first part of the video is decent. Dre's part was just stupid, why do we want to see him and his steroid filled body?
*Pause*
Okay. The first part of the video is decent. Dre's part was just stupid, why do we want to see him and his steroid filled body?
*Pause*
...because that's the only way we can actually see Dre in a video...with his body/head.
He's probably been on the roids mind, but considering he's probably been working out several hours a day for about 6+ years, I wouldn't expect much else to be honest.
This will now cause a trend of men working out wearing tight long sleeve shirts and builders boots. Whilst reciting rap lyrics. If the video ain't Hype. It ain't Hype.

How long we got lol. She does nothing for Hip-Hop. She is for kids. She has no good lyrics. Her flow is average. I can name a load of female emcees in Hip-Hop that would eat her on the mic. She sucks. Style over substance is all she is.
Is that not a valid way of going about business though? If everything was substance and no style, we'd have a bunch of Nas', and I think that'd be a bit too much to handle
I think she's fresh man. Can get quite annoying when she does that stupid voice that she does to emphasise a point (if you know what i'm talking about), but I think she's quite good. She's better when she's appearing on other artists tracks.
alkemy007
03-06-2011, 17:06
A bit of style is fine but you gotta have skills to back it up. We might be on opposite sides of the spectrum though. I been into Hip-Hop since the mid to late 80's. I been a scratch DJ for 10 years too. Not blowing my own trumpet or nothing Im just saying that if somebody is a casual Hip-Hop listener then Minaj might appeal to you but I think the majority of Hip-Hop heads would find her irritating to the culture.
She's okay in incredibly small doses, I just can't look past the facade of it all though to be honest. Fake tits, ass, nose, face, voice, hair...the list goes on.
Just need to let her 15 minutes fall and all will be nice again.
Not at all man, I listen to a lot of different stuff. I've been into Hip-Hop a long time as well, due my Brother always being into it. It was always on in the background so I just listened along.
I can appreciate that there is a lot of mainstream music out there today and I know that Minaj might fall into it, but without mainstream acts pumping money back into the industry, then it might fail altogether. Hip-Hop wouldn't reach the masses if it weren't for shit like her
Can't help but like her though. She really grated on me at first but I quite like her stuff now.
Do you have any videos of you scratching? I'd like to see some of that from a pesgaming member, would certainly be a change!
edit: Yeah Hunter, that's why I said she's better on other artists tracks, I think she makes an impact in the song if only used for like a part role.

I cant believe you are all mentioning Left Eye as a Hip-Hop emcee. Ms Dynamite too. Left Eye did some half assed rapping on TLC's tracks and ended up doing guest verses on tracks for Mel C, Nsync and the like. Her solo album was terrible too. Ms Dynamite, while a good artist, aint really a Hip-Hop emcee. She started off on garage tunes and then progressed more to singing. She did a couple of tracks with Nextmen but they were also more in a garage type of emceeing. I dont think any of them two would be in anyones top 20 of female emcees, especially in Hip-Hop.
alkemy007
04-06-2011, 03:34
Remy Ma is pretty good. Lil Kim has had a few good tracks, none I would call classic by any stretch of the imagination but she has passed her sell by date big time. Her "beef" with Nicky Minaj is comical. They would both get eat up by the likes of Eternia, Rah Digga, Bahamadia & Jean Grae. Kim & Minaj are nowhere near their level.

Haven't heard a handful of the mentions so not going to argue the point too much. Can't say I'm too bothered either, mind. Don't make a habit of bumping female rappers unless it's a feature. Lil Kim was decent though annd Ms Dynamite is dope.

Its not a case of going commercial at all. She basically came out of nowhere, its not like she was underground first. And Eternia is hardly old school. Check her out and tell me she wouldnt rip Minaj in a no holds barred back and forth.

Ha, well the difference between them is that one can make good music whilst the other I feel inclined to call a cretin for his despicable, shit creations!

I'll be honest i've not listened to his music properly apart from videos ,but he just bores me recently(his music vids) .Apart when he's spitting on an underground song where he really brings the rawness.Has he even got a new album out recently?I'd be interested in buying it if anyone knows.I've always liked Fat joe even when he was bitching out ,going mainstrean, due to how raw he used to be.

Indeed man. His first two albums we're off the hook in my opinion! Particularly Jealous Ones Envy...Bronx Keeps Creating It is among my all-time rap favourites, great tune.

I'll be honest that I ive pretty much ignored his music. Not that I care too much anyway.

Even Jesus Price agrees
I know what he means though. It's only voice so it shouldn't matter, but it really does. I mean, to parallel, in wrestling, obviously no one cares about women's matches because being women they're natural more petite physically than the men which takes away the believability of the whole nature of wrestling. However, with rap, it's merely words, yet it's still difficult to really rock out to a female rapper because most are just not credible enough to me. They're often trying too hard and shit just comes across as forced, so I agree with Price for the most part yeah.

What would be the HIP HOP/rap album you've listened to/played most when your on your bill?
I'd say mine would have to be
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-22GQR8B_zz4/TcNll49Z77I/AAAAAAAAAbY/VrSYWcy8xYo/s1600/Z2PacAllEyezOnMe.jpg
First had this album on a double cassette pack then later bought the cd after the tapes peppered out ,but like shitloads of my albums have dissapeared over the years. Now just got a dodgy copy on my pc left standing.
Close second and third would be 2001 and snoop's dogfather.
What would your's be?

That was certainly a different song Mak, from the almost overpowering production to the heavy scratching. I liked it though. :)
I'll download that mixtape later today I think too Alch.
I've been enjoying music from the south lately. There's just something about it, sure it's not lyrically amazing, we all know that, but it just has something, a relaxed, bopping feel. I just love how it all has a very distinct sound in a time when a lot of popular music just sounds the same, especially coming off of the back of an era packed with autotune. I've been listening to Big Moe and the S.U.C. a lot on YouTube the last few days, and I have to say, I'm really enjoying all 3 albums that Moe released before passing away. He's got such a unique and lovely style, a real smooth voice which he uses to both rap and sing, it sets him apart a bit more from the crowd.

My favourite in the song is 1 minute onwards, so damn sweet.
I'd definitely recommend checking out his 3 albums; Purple World, City of Syrup and finally Moe Life. Obviously from the names the first two are hugely influenced by codeine, as are the whole Screwed Up Click from Houston. That's what fascinates me to be honest, the whole culture revolving around it. Moe's final album though Moe Life is different from his previous two in the sense that by this time he obviously realised just how damaging the codeine/prometh was on his body so vowed to stay away from it - as stated in this song which I love too, just unfortunate he did indeed die a few years later of a heart attack - obviously syrup induced.

Agree with the part about good things being on the way hopefully, for me there's Nas, Common, some mythical talk about new releases by the likes of Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth (!) and Blackalicious among others...also will be interesting if Method Man can make a consistently decent album for the first time in years.

Man I love that song. Was quite funny when I went to buy Dre's 2001 album aged 9, talk about getting funny looks in Tesco.
When i heard Dre's 2001 album, i straight went to get Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP, aound that time Dre signed him to the Aftermath label. Anyway went Virgin MS to buy me album they declined me, "Your not old enough" bullshit.
Yeah I used to have to get my mother to buy most of my albums when I was young.

My fave is Blackout.
One Nation should of got a mention .
I wouldn't like to say for certain, as things often change depending on the particular mood I'm in, or phase.
Would Little Brother's "The Minstrel Show" be classed as a collaboration album do you think? I'm not so sure, but if so, then it's certainly up there.

Though it's solely Raekwon's in name I believe; isn't Cuban Linx pretty much a him + Ghost collabo album? Also, So...How's Your Girl? by Handsome Boy Modeling School springs to mind, but they can also simply be considered a duo, so some rather ill-fitting examples brought out by me.

Any of you going to watch How Hip Hop Changed The World on Channel 4 tonight? It's on at 10:25pm, running for 2 hours (or 11:25pm on Channel 4+1). Should be good.
Watching it now, so far so good.

Hmm. I'm a bit disappointed, to be honest. I was hoping for an insightful documentary looking at the history and growth of hip-hop, rather than a poll.
Hmm. I'm a bit disappointed, to be honest. I was hoping for an insightful documentary looking at the history and growth of hip-hop, rather than a poll.
Yeah, I was actually not expecting a poll. I'm not too fussed though as I've already learnt some stuff I didn't previously know - not to mention, the fact we've been allocated a 2 hour slot, which I imagine will only get better as well as it draws nearer to more defining moments.
Just don't take the numbers too seriously and you'll enjoy it - but I know what you mean about wanting a more insightful, slow paced, and in-depth psychological look at how Hip Hop has influenced the world, instead of "mini-segments" so to speak.
These things are what Channel 4 does best. I remember a few years back they were on all the time, with Jimmy Carr presenting them.
I think it's got better already, although I fucking hate Westwood.
