I was just wondering what everyone thought about talib kweli's recent album. personally i loved it but it doesnt get talked about much not even by the people who know a lot abo hip-hop, which i find surprising. Another thing i was thinking about was kanye's new album. will it be half as good as the college drop-out or will it be a dissapointment.

Yeah I love talib kweli's new one... I haven't got it yet but I heard it at my mate Jemal's house and I think it was track 5 or 6 blew me away!

Track 6 - ''I Try'' Featuring Mary J. Blige, superb track that. Though I thought his album was abit disappointing, and lacked that tough underground hiphop feel to it. Which he made a name for himself due to.

To razor, I think Kanye West will top College Dropout, his style of production is very creative.

Sorry if no-one has heard of him and isn't really interested but I was when I read it so I thought this being the Hip/Hop Thread that I might as well post it:

Happenned yesterday.

I'm still in shock. I.E. representer and one of my good friends Kay9ine, was killed today. There are no details on the incident, but word is that the yet to be revealed killer(s) broke into his house, shot Kay9ines mother in the head, and proceeded to kidnap him. His body was later found in the back of a car. His mother is currently still on life support. We wish her the best.

For those who don't know, Kay9ine was also the brother in law of Billboard aka 4Bent (R.I.P.) from Black Wall Street.

We will run a special Kay9ine feature tomorrow. You can also read an interview I conducted with Kay9ine back in 2002, by clicking here. He had his biggest hit in 2002 with Kurupt, called "Extra'd Out" from his album "The 9ine Cocked Back".

Wondering if anyone here can recommend me Nas's 2nd best album, I've had Illmatic for a while and I love it, but after hearing his work after that was lackluster I put off buying another of his work until now, I'm thinking either God's Son, or Stillmatic, but that's just from what reviews I've read.

Yes God's Son and Stillmatic, are what I would recommend.
His other stuff has been compared too much to Illmatic which was a masterpiece unable to surpass.

you should never try and compare any nas or any other album to masterpieces such as illmatic, like nas said you can't make another illmatic

Jin, who's regarded as the first Chinese rapper to ever make it in mainstream music, has just quit. In my opinion he was one of the best freestyle rappers, shame he didn't have the same affect when it came to making songs.

Here is what is meant to be his last ever track it's called ''I Quit'' (http://mp3download.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=bandprofi le.downloadSong&bsid=1025858&song_name=IQuit&fid=4044553)

Nice debut post in the Hip Hop thread soliloquay :innocent: .

Don't give him a try for the sake of him quitting. Stick to the ''who the fuck cares'' persona and don't bother posting in here, make a ''Doom Metal'' thread, so I can post a ''who the fuck cares'' there too, it's only fair.

Apart from the fact that the first sentence of my post is totally sarcastic, I don't know anything about rap or hip-hop just because I always find people like you who tell me to go listen to "doom metal". I don't see the point in opening a thread about metal.

Anyway, would you mind answering my first question for me or do I have to wait for someone respectable and friendly?

Since when was ''who the fuck cares'' sarcastic? If it even was then what shitty sarcasm implemented.

You gave me an ignorant post so I gave you a taste of your own medicine by telling you to go back and listen to your previous musical tastes.

And don't worry I won't weep for your respect. Unfriendly ey? You seem to forget the amount of times I have helped inform you on Hip Hop artists such as M.O.P.

You know it was uncalled for, yet won't admit it.

So because you gave me some points on M.O.P., that justifies why you know don't feel like giving me some more information about your genre?

My post was sarcastic. Look at it again, first comes "who the fuck cares?", then comes "nah really, I'll give him a try". See it now?

P.S. that song (I Quit) was not so bad, but i got bored after a while. 7 minutes is too much for me.

Here is that thread. If you compare my posts to the other informers, it did take alot of time. I was also interacting with you in a pleasant way. Not just lobbing my information at you and fucking off.

And read my post again I never said I don't feel like giving you info, you just gave me the idea you are an ignorant twunt, therefore you don't deserve any information.

''Nah really i'll give him a try'' = ''well....since he's quit, i'll see if he was shite''

Like I said before the sarcasm was rubbish and badly timed.

The song isn't 7 minutes it's just under 3 minutes, you must've kept listening to him talking at the end. No worries link is better now.

The link was unnecessary. I checked the thread before posting my latter post. I know you helped me willingly, and I appreciated it since I really loved their song Ante Up.

What's that equation thing there? I would never call a rapper shit for the sole reason that I don't hear much rap and I don't know what makes a rapper good, therefore it's not for me to judge. I try to rely on people like you to share their opinions and maybe I could learn something new, but this is what I get.

There is no difference in the outcome between "not deserving information" and "not feeling like giving info". That's your choice. Why should I not deserve the information? Just because my sarcasm was badly timed? Oh no, what a sad bastard I am. Just remain cool and do as you're supposed to do.

I think this argument is not taking place only because of my badly timed sarcasm.

If you want to rely on people like me, Jonny2J and others. Then taking the piss out of one of ours decent posts won't cut it.

Yes their is a difference. If I didn't want to give you anything, then that would be plain childish. If you didn't deserve it then their would be a good reason to ala ''taking the piss''. And sarcasm marks how serious a person is in a discussion it is also known as ''taking the piss'' or ''fucking about''. Which you gave me an impression of. It was also badly timed, as in the discussion was not even remotely funny. Maybe you are use to launching random sarcastic posts in the ''Offtopic Forum'' who knows?

Freestyle rap is rap is done in the moment at pure free flow, without pre- composed lyrics, and reflecting a direct mapping of the mental state and performing situation of the artist. It is similar in this sense to improvisational music or acting.

LOL.Would be insanely funny if it wasn't true. Those who depend on MTV (In Gplays words) " to guide and develop their musical taste are deprived of the actual real hip-hop. The only good thing about the masses is they have wallets which contain greenbacks that put food on artists plates, other than that fuck em.

Here's a rumored tracklisting for Nas's new album - NASDAQ JONES

Source:
http://www.nobodysmiling.com/hiphop/news/84301.php
Word on the street is that the new studio album entitled "NASDAQ Dow Jones" may be released as early as this summer.

Nas is known for dropping albums in the late fall and winter and years apart at times so rumors of the summer relase of a new album may be premature. Heres the new tracklist circulating the internet at this time:

Nas - NASDAQ Dow Jones Album Tracklist unofficial

01. Wake Up New York (Intro)
02. Bullet X
03. What's Good NY
04. We Were Gangstas (featuring Scarface)
05. Mexico
06. QB Savages (featuring Bravehearts)
07. Polo and Guess
08. Unauthorized Biography of KRS-ONE
09. The Nasty One
10. Seed of Sekou
11. Legendary
12. Rebel to America
13. Hallie Selassie
14. Moon (featuring Kelis)
15. Talk of NY - (bonus track)

I already have the Talk of New York song. That leaked a long time ago. It's pretty good but nothing spectactular that will blow you away. I'll upload it some time. I can already tell track 6 is going to be skipper.

I'll defend Jay-Z on that one.

Believe me that is a manipulative clip. The woman he is hitting is an employee at Roc-A-Fella Records (his record label) who he regards as family. It was all done in humour. Also in the clip you can see some other fellow laughing, that's Jaz-O the man that discovered Jay-Z, who is enjoying the act. Nobody in the scene seems shocked either.

I remember reading a statement ages ago, by Jay-Z and the lady cancelling out the accusations. The clip is also featured in a Tour documentary released by Jay-Z himself, now I doubt anyone will be stupid enough to do that, had it been a proper assault.

Why would I defend an assaulter? Especially one that is assaulting a female?

The clip is false, you can keep opposing despite the woman herself supporting Jay-Z instead of sueing him for millions. End of this nonsense, it's old news anyway.

The intense kind of aspiration that comes from having little. About holding and rhyming into a microphone. Mixing and scratching. Guns, pain, blood. Desire, desperation, truth, true love. Art, mystery and metaphor. The singularity of voice. The magnificence of ingenious sampling. The glory of a beat created by Dre or Timbaland or-God bless him-DJ Premier of Gangstarr.

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/8360/xzibit3fq.jpg

The production is flawless. With Dr. Dre, Battlecat, DJ Quik, Rockwilder and Erick Sermon to boast. Exemplifies Westcoast hiphop.
The album is almost 5 years old, when Xzibit was at his peak, sadly today he's descended to a high low.

50 Mocks Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Game, Nas In 'Piggy Bank' Video

For a record considered to be just a warning shot, 50 Cent's "Piggy Bank" continues to have the largest ripple effect of any rap song this year. Last week Nas finally responded to the cut, and this week 50 issued a video mixtape that includes a full-length clip for the song.

The video is animated and starts with three boys walking down "Beaver Street" when one of them stops at an arcade. The kid is infatuated with a game called "Rapper Knockout," which stars 50 Cent as a ring king beating opponents to a pulp. The video then takes a look inside the video game as 50 squares off against Fat Joe. The animated Joe is afraid to go the ring at first, and gets pummeled when he finally enters.

The same fate holds true for an animated Jadakiss, which Fif imagines dressed up like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle — complete with Raphael's red mask and a slice of pizza — wearing a belt with a buckle that says "Jada."

Later, 50 depicts Game as a Mr. Potato Head doll with a "Wanksta" headband and Cassidy as a young kid wearing a pink hoodie with "I'm a Hustler" embroidered on it. Cass gets punched in the stomach by two kids. In a separate scene, another kid is seen wearing Superman's tights and cape while running down the street. Instead of the Man of Steel's S, he has a red logo of Nas' name on his chest and is chasing a "Milkshake" truck before jumping at the vehicle and falling flat on his face. "Piggy Bank" is one of 21 videos slated to be included in a special-edition reissue of The Massacre, which is due on September 6 including "Gunz Come Out," in which plenty of heavy artillery will be brandished, and "In My Hood," which shows Fif waking through the neighborhood.

50 has a real video game called "Bulletproof," which has nothing to do with his rap beef, due on November 15. This coming Tuesday 50 will release his autobiography, "From Pieces to Weight." In the meantime, Fif continues to travel the country as part of the Anger Management 3 Tour. He'll perform for the first time at Madison Square Garden in his hometown on Monday and Tuesday.

So those who think ''Ether'' is better than ''Takeover'' (like myself) are automatically uneducated, thus lacking knowledge of this music genre?

Pfft!

Both tracks are class, but I felt the Nas' delivery on Ether was just incredible. It catapulted his career, which was on the life support machine at the time.

And don't even try to give me that, ''Jay-Z had more facts'' crap that I hear from some people.

Aren't these facts?

''How much of Biggie's rhymes is gon' come out your fat lips?''
How many phrases has Jigga copied from Biggie?

''went from Jaz to hangin with Kane, to Irv, to Big
And, Eminem murdered you on your own shit''
Jay-Z symbolises himself as an individual, making routes rather than following them, yet he has had various guardians, Jaz-O, Big Daddy Kane, Irv Gotti, Biggie, all made him what he is today.
Also ''Renegade'' one of the greatest rap songs ever, Eminem's participation overshadows that of Jay-Z's.

''Queens niggas run you niggas, ask Russell Simmons''
The founder and owner of Def Jam records at the time was Mr Simmons. Who is from Queensbridge, same Borough as Nasir, so he was basically saying, at the end of the day, you are owned, and not by a random person, but a fellow friend of mine from my area.

IMO Ether is very overated. Dont get me wrong, i think its an excellent diss record, but takeover was better, again IMO

I wont disagree, Nas came hard on Ether and had that rawness, but I think that Jiggas personals took it

Lloyd Banks, Young Buck Arrested After Anger Management Tour Stop In New York

Lloyd Banks and Young Buck were arrested after police allegedly found weapons in a van carrying the rappers and 11 other people as they were leaving the Anger Management 3 tour in New York this morning (August 9).

Reports stated that police pulled the van over for running a red light on 41st and Eighth Avenue in Manhattan.

Police reportedly found two firearms in the vehicle and subsequently arrested eleven passengers. Police allege they found a loaded .40 caliber and a .357 handgun on one of the passengers. Everyone in the vehicle was charged with weapons offenses.

Manager Sha Money XL confirmed with us that Lloyd Banks and Young Buck were arrested. He declined to comment any further.

"They told the crowd to put their fists in the air and then told the crowd to put up their middle finger," one concert goer told us. "Then they yelled out f**k the police and the crowd shouted it back."

The other men arrested ranged from age 20-41.

The NYPD's Intelligence Unit has spent the last few days checking the streets to see if any violence might be directed towards 50 Cent and G-Unit during their stop in New York.

With heavy police presence, the Anger Management concert went off without a hitch last night and will resume tonight.

Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Mobb Deep, Olivia, Tony Yayo, M.O.P. 50 Cent, D12, Proof, Obie Trice, Stat Quo, Pitbull, Lil’ Jon and Lil’ Scrappy are also featured on the tour.

Has anybody heard Rising Son, Doc Brown & Yungun's reply to Common's racist remarks on his album?

Basically when I heard the track ''Real People'' by him. I was left scratching my head, unsure of what he meant. As he states:
''Black men walking with white girls on they arms
I be mad at them as if I know they moms
Told to go beyond the surface, a person's a person
When we lessen our women our condition seems to worsen''

Whether that was a straight ignorant pop at interracial relationships, which I believe it was now. Then how stupid and disappointing of Common.

Anyway. The reply to that is awesome, especially Yungun's verse. If you want it, I'll see if I can obtain.

Yungun's father is Nigerian, his mother is English. Go figure.

Common was basically insulting the likes of Yungun's father. For ''going beyond the surface''.

It's not racism just a something that goes on in black communities especially in America. Basically it means that the majority of black men who have good jobs normally go for white women leaving black women with the black men without jobs. It is a bit of a myth as successful black men do marry black women but it is a bit true.

ozzie66

An interview common made describing real people

Prefix Magazine: Can you take a second to describe who some of the people you describe on Be’s “Real People” are? What do they like? What do they do?
Common: Real people is [a] young black dude, 31, got kids, married, working for the … Chicago Transit Authority, maybe have another child by somebody else, taking care of his responsibilities. Real people is the dude who grew up on the South Side or in Birmingham and his mama passed away when he was young. He grew up with his grandmother. He wasn’t really into school -- was artistic -- and then ended up serving a little bit, went to jail for a little bit and got out. He trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life. Real people is the dude that grew up with his father and went away to college. It didn’t work out. He came back home and started hustling a little bit. Real people is the cat that grew up with just his mama and went away to Howard and ended up becoming a doctor. Those are real people to me.

ozzie66
17-08-2005, 02:46
Another explanation:

This whole album I’m either expressing my feelings or people I know who have lived the hustle or lived the blue collar life or lived the life of just trying to make it. I’m expressing their lives. That’s what “Real People” is about. It’s got a real jazzy sample produced by Kanye and it’s the last song we did for the album but man, I love it.

i believe now he his talking about people who have a problem with black men going out with white women and he using the view of the "hater". he is basically saying we schould look beyond the colour and look at the person. And that is why he says we should not lessen women

None of the evidence you have posted leads to him saying that he didn't mean what he said. I believe he meant it, otherwise why would 3 rappers of interracial heritage take offence? Basically it means that the majority of black men who have good jobs normally go for white women leaving black women with the black men without jobs. It is a bit of a myth as successful black men do marry black women but it is a bit true.
Like you said ''Myth''. Their are loads of myths like this that are incredibly ignorant, yet have some sense of reality to them.

Here is an example from another angle of the situation:

Within the Black community, the dedication, intelligence, and other qualities that make for success later in life, are not valued by Black women early in life.
So guys that are smart, or work hard, or don’t like to fight are looked upon as “sellouts”, “punks” and “nerds” by most Black women throughout adolescence and young adulthood.
Black women are attracted to 2pac and 50 Cent more than Colin Powell and Robert Johnson. So the type of Black guy that becomes successful in business or any other non-entertainment endeavor, has most likely been shit on by Black women so much before he made it, that he won’t let them jump on the bandwagon after the fact. Obviously, this one doesn’t apply to rappers and ballplayers, cause they are the ones getting all the attention from Black women when they are young.

Just had a good listen to Kanye West's ''Late Registration'', and I must say, it is solid. The production is outstanding as expected.

The first track with Maroon 5's Adam Levine is beautiful.

Also I see why Ogopa Djz/Lupez Fiasco used to bang on about Lupe Fiasco, the guy is class on the momentous ''Touch The Sky'', I can't stop playing it.

The beat for ''We Major'' with Nas is crazy, something I've never heard before. Also Nas delivers, outshining Kanye.

Nice to see a re-mastered ''Hey Mama'' on it, sounds better than ever.

Though I would've liked The Game to have been rapping on ''Crack Music'', still an awesome track nonetheless.

You should listen to Drive Slow ft. Paul Wall, the sample kanye uses is great, one of my favourite tracks off of Late Registration, along with Touch the Sky and Diamonds from Sierra Leone feat Jay Z (and the video version for that matter)

edit: Kanye is easily one of my favourite artists because he has the ability to be versatile and still make a very good album, unlike other rapper/producers and touches on subjects that not many other famous rappers will because they are too scared of losing that 'gangsta' appeal, which is said. Kanye keeps it real and i respect him for that, i respect this man alot, which cant be said for many others

Kanye West is a terrible rapper.

There's absoloutley nothing to him whatsoever.
Not a terrible rapper, that's harsh. He is average as far as lyrical skills are concerned but come production and making superb music in general, competition is near non-existence (*cough* Dr Dre).

'Having hits to your name' doesn't mean a goddamn thing.

Personally I don't like his beats, but it's beyond me how anyone can think he's even a marginally good rapper. He's also an ignorant schmuck too... saying he wants to be remembered for spitting his first song with his jaw wired shut. He wants to go down in history as the mublemouf rapper.
You've got ''ignorant'' mixed up with ''arrogant'', which every rapper is nowadays.

You sure you don't like his beats at all? That's a first.

Diamonds is alryt, but how can you say hes the most creative bla bla bla when he was releasing tracks like The Workout Plan & It All Falls Down.?
It All Falls Down? Now combine that with your avatar and signature, I really can't take your opinion seriously.

and I dont think Common would 'destroy' Eminem in his peak...he may beat him, but not destroy.
Has someone hacked Gun Runner's account? Really, just piss off.

Common managed to dismantle a charismatic Ice Cube late in his peak. Eminem would be a fucking walk in the park for him.

No but that's just me personally. I can respect him as a producer the same way I can understand why everybody loves an album like Illmatic despite me not liking it personally.

You've got ''ignorant'' mixed up with ''arrogant'', which every rapper is nowadays.

He's also an uneducated moron by all accounts. His arrogance is nauseating because if you wanna be arrogant like that you have to have at least marginal skill.

Hence, College Dropout  .

I don't know, haven't detected much of his stupidity in songs.

How many rappers are actually well educated anyway?

Really? I think it matches the first. Maybe I'm just liking the more soulful mood adopted for the sequel.

Had a good listen during the weekend....i am loving Touch The Sky...Lupoe Fiasco mercs it on that track :D Also Crack music is heavy...don't know why Game doesn't spit some bars on there  ...Addiction, My Way Home and Bring Me Down are also some quality songs.

Does anybody here know what the meaning of the four skits are suppose to be about.....i was trying to work it out...but couldn't undestand what message Kanye was trying to put across

I'd say that most rappers are at least marginally intelligent. He has absoloutley no education whatsoever and couldn't even graduate from a downtown jig college. Shit... you can go to college three times and get a degree. I'm not saying Kanye West sucks at music because he's a dumbass, but to be that painfully ignorant and talk like he knows what the fuck he's going on about is laughable.

I don't think he couldn't graduate. He just didn't and decided to pursue a musical career instead. I think you are being spiteful towards your opinion of him. I don't know what this is triggered by, but okay.
It's not evident that he is a nincompoop.

I just dont like him because to me his voice is very annoying after a while, I think he should stick to production as he produced The Game's Dreams and its great.

That tupac link earlier on the page is practically just the same facts as tupacfans.com

Have you heard of a guy named 50 Cent? His voice isn't pretty either. Yet he squeezes into your avy.

You have just backpedalled everything you said about Kanye and packaged it into ''his voice is annoying''. Which like your previous arguments of him, can not be taken seriously at all.

I was about to say something along the lines of that.

I honestly can't see how someone can dislike Kanye West, I mean if you don't like his music much, fair enough. But theres no reason to dislike him. I watched a program about a year back or around that time on MTV:Base called 'Diary of Kanye West'. This was roughly when "Colledge Dropout" was released, and he went back to his old High School I think it was to give a suprise performance. Was fantastic to watch, all the pupils looked like they were about to slit their wrists due to mass amounts of boredom and then Kanye came rushing out from behind some curtains. The pupils suddenly put their knives back into their bags and came to the front of the stage.

His voice is annoying IMO-you see thats the key there...its MY OPINION...not yours, I dont like the majority of his songs, exceptions=through the wire, diamonds...his production is good though as I said earlier...

Im not doubting Kanye West is a good guy...his music just doesnt do it for ME.

i loved kanyes first album but the singles from his new albums arent as good, im not really enjoying his samples of old tracks

also
good point, common wouldnt have destroyed eminem in his prime but he would have beaten him, imagine if it was common instead of ja rule, that would have been a much better beef

Ja Rule is too commercial...Eminem would easily destroy him...although Eminems retiring now I think.

whats the best battle you could imagine?

Mase has signed to G Unit Records, but I don't think the name change will have happened. If it actually has, then it would have been G Unit that would have most probably put forward the idea.
