Kanye West is a terrible rapper.
There's absoloutley nothing to him whatsoever.
He's one of the most complete packages around at the moment as he has a great mix of songs and he doesn't rap about sh*t all the time(50 cent i'm looking in your direction!). His freestyles are really good too.
Mos Def best hip hop artist EVER!!!!

bold statement and mos def is awesom, love mathematicas and ms fat booty but i think common is slightly better and 2 pac is arguably the greatest
illmatic and 36 chambers are the 2 greatest albums though, the massacre ruines the good name of hip hop, if that makes any sense

What is the title of this thread my friend? Hiphop right? Both of you are MTV lovers from the looks of things.
Infact both of your opinions are stupid, as you didn't even make a worthy elaboration.
''I like mroe Mobb Deeps stuff'' and ''Mos Def is good but Mobb Deep is better''.
These are the kind of opinions that have disfigured Hiphop and threaten it's existence to this day.
Okay first of all to Gun Runner, Kanye's lyrics are sick, believe me if you understand the message being conveyed by lyrics you will find out how lyrically talented he is. Its his flow that somethime lets him down. Also he did not finish college (university) because he dropped out to pursue hip-hop. Also "all falls down" is a hip hop track if realiese hip hop came from the soul and blues (also disco, sugerhill gang) music genres. He is creative, might not be the best at delivering his lyris, but he has got the charisma
Secondly, everyone has an opinion and that should be respected, but in my view mobb deep are no way as good as Mos Def. When it comes to the greatest hip-hop artistseveryone has their own view on who it is. Mine will be Krs One or Chuck D. The laid the foundation for artist such as common, nas and talib kweli
Wow, I should check out this thread more often, there's some quality arguing going on.. :D
Anyway, I read a story of Kanye West from Time Magazine, and it said he dropped because he wanted to pursue his career in music better.
(Edit: Got it first Ozzie, damn )
I think comparing Mos Def and Mobb Deep is pretty much useless, they are quite the opposite as rap artists:
Mos Def lyrics (http://www.ohhla.com/anonymous/mos_def/black_on/fear_not.mos.txt)
Mobb Deep lyrics (http://www.ohhla.com/anonymous/mobbdeep/the_infa/shookpt2.mbd.txt)
Anyway, I think Mos Def is better.
Also Kanye West was very well equiped educational wise, he had graduated High School a year early.

I never said Mobb Deep were better than Mos Def, so get that straight for everyone who can't read in here....what I said was I prefer more of Mobb Deeps songs, doesnt mean I think theyre better just like more of their music.
And I still think that some(most) of Kanye West's music is shite and cheesy...Spaceship being another one, Hey Mama-another.

Who said anything about you not liking Mos Def? I simply asked you to elaborate your opinion, which you have yet to do. Hence your ''one liner'' opinions are useless. This thread wasn't made for that.
If you wan't people to respect your musical tastes, you must be able to express it to them in an informative level.
And I still think that some(most) of Kanye West's music is shite and cheesy...Spaceship being another one, Hey Mama-another.
I truly can't believe this. I won't even waste time trying to drill in some sense. Again the reasons for you disliking his music is ''shite'' and ''cheesy''.
Give me something mature to argue with please.

Give me something mature to argue with please.
I cant remember the other singles from College Dropout except Through The Wire, but I can reemember enough to say that I found them boring so that is the reason I didnt get the album. However I feel sure that TTW was the best on the album.
I havent got Late Registration yet and I think Il wait for more singles beforee I do, but its looking good so far.
I lost my previous 'College Dropout' CD so I bought a new one which happened to only be a few quid in Woolies. More than half the album is great, very solid in nearly every department. I also got Kanye's 'Late Registration' on the day of its release and I can't put it down, Kanye West could very well be classed as a "musical genius". How he thought up some of these songs is beyond me, such an imagination which has been adapted to his music.
I was watching 'MTV:Base - The Diary of Kanye West' about a year and a half ago and I can still remember what he said, was something along the lines of "I think my advantage is that I don't just hear music, I also see music."
Touch the Sky feat. Lupe Fiasco (I heard it's produced by Just Blaze, can someone confirm???), Drive Slow feat. Paul Wall & GLC, Bring Me Down feat. Brandy, Hey Mama and Diamons from Sierra Leone are the best tracks on the album imo. Late Registration that is.

My favourite tracks from Late Registration are:
Heard 'Em Say (ft Adam Levine)
Touch The Sky (ft Lupe Fiasco)
We Major (ft Nas & Really Doe)
Drive Slow (ft Paul Wall & GLC)
Bring Me Down (ft Brandy)
Diamonds From Sierra Leone
Hey Mama
Late
Love the album.
Id class him as a musical genius, especially after listening to "Touch the Sky".
My favourite, along with "Diamonds".
Im not a big fan of his vocal capacities, not at all, I wouldve rather heard Common or Ghostface Killah or someone along the lines, but his production capacities are of such a level that it makes up almost entirely.
What makes up for that too, is that he's more than just a rapper, he's an actual. musician.
What makes up for that too, is that he's more than just a rapper, he's an actual. musician.
Why would you describe him as a musician and not a rapper?
He's different from the normal gun-ho,bling bling and shiny rims- rap these days.
The lyrics make sense, and he's not afraid to work with musicians from other genres to extend his boundaries. People like John Mayer,TAlib Kweli,Mos Def,Jon Brion. He thinks outside the box, instead of constantly bringing out the same stuff with a simple rehash.

He thinks outside the box, instead of constantly bringing out the same stuff with a simple rehash.
You gotta appreceate the irony of that when a good portion of his production work involves rehashing older songs. Personally I think the world has gone mad when everybody I talk to actually thinks Kanye West is a good rapper.
My favourite tracks from Late Registration are:
Touch The Sky (ft Lupe Fiasco)
Love the album.
My older bro (Lupez Fiasco) would have been proud. ;)

Petty comeback, hes been here longer than you.
All Mobb Deep ever talk about is killing NIGGAS (Which are black people)...If you listen to the lyrics to some of their songs they got so much Violence to there own people and talk about how they sell drugs and how gangsta they are...i mean rappers like Jay-Z at least has some songs that you could say "hey his got something useful to say" (songs like Hope you understand and Song Cry).....but what do rappers like Mobb Deep sing about....killing NIGGAS!!!
Could you imagine them saying "Ayo i went down the block, took out my trey pound and shot that damn Jew"....they wouldn't even dare...because they know there will be reprocusions....and they call themselves gangstas.....i know a real gangsta would kill anyone he hates NOT JUST HIS OWN PEOPLE!
But like what all people say IT'S ONLY MUSIC.....yeah it's encouraging music is it Eh
Coming from you whos been on the site for nearly 2 weeks...

Touch the sky is actually produced by Just Blaze ;) the man behind Jay-Z's "Girls, Girls, Girls", Joe Budden's "Pump It Up", Fabolous's "Breathe", The Game's "Church for Thugs", Cam'ron's "Oh Boy" and many more great tracks...
And you're right Ghostface and Common are amazing rappers.

Back to Hip Hop:
Comparing 'The College Dropout' to 'Late Registration' ?
Kanye West is a breath of fresh air, the originality he brings to his music is incredible. I think 'The College Dropout' just beats 'Late Registration' but his first album is one of those that can't be beaten second time round. The second album is always the most difficult. i.e. 'Get Rich or Die Tryin' and then 'The Massacre'.
I don't think 50 Cent will ever top 'Get Rich or Die Tryin' to be honest. After the couple of years his lyrics end up being bland and boring, theres not much too them. It was fresh when he was a new big artist on the scene with the big beats on his first big album, but next year round it was just all the same but weaker and there weren't any big beats. Maybe exceptions for one or two but thats about it really.
PS: Apparently Lil' Eazy is going to be dissing BWS on his upcoming album which could trigger some beef if Game or any of the BWS are going to retaliate. Although I am not sure if Game would have beef with him, just because Lil' Eazy is his idols son. By the way, this Lil' Eazy dissing BWS isn't 100% bullshit I'll have you know I got the information straight from Big Fase(Game's brother).

G.A.G.E And Bishop Lamont have signed for Aftermath anyone know anything about them?
The Game's plan to sabotage Tony Yayo's first week sales by urging fans to re-purchase his own Documentary album appears to have been foiled, though the Compton lyricist did benefit from a small sales boost.
Yayo's Thoughts of a Predicate Felon hit stores last Tuesday and dropped in at #2 on the Billboard 200 charts by selling 214,687 CDs units according to Nielsen's Soundscan. Simultaneously last week, The Game's The Documentary sold 7184 copies - just 166 more than it did the prior week.
As previously reported by SOHH.com, to disrupt sales of Yayo's album, Game called on all his fans to hit stores and cop a second copy of The Documentary. He sent the message via numerous online forums, including Chuck Taylor's www.theblackwallstreet.com.
The message read, "The day Yayo's album drop, I want everyone who can to go out and re-cop The Documentary! Anyone who does so can send the album in to The Black Wallstreet offices & I will personally sign it & send it back with a copy of my new mixtape Ghost Unit (Life After 300 Bars). If you can't afford it, don't do it but if you can let's go out & kill these motherfucker's until 50 & Sha is Irv [Gotti] & Ja [Rule]. G-Unot!"
Hurricane Game's "public service announcement" was also sent out in mp3 format from "the nice folks at Black Wall Street Records" and was being distributed across the web by Game supporters, who vowed to support Game's plan and re-buy The Documentary on August 30th, the day Thoughts of a Predicate Felon was released.
The Game's Documentary has been out since January 18th and has sold 2,203,004 sets to date according to Soundscan.
I would have re-bought it, if I could have got it signed and recieve his new mixtape for free. The Documentary is only about £7.97 now here, and mixtapes cost about £6 anyway.
Anywho, something very interesting if its fully true:

Feds investigate alleged murder inc. conspiracy to kill 50 cent.
In more upsetting news for Murder Inc., federal investigators reportedly suspected that employees of the record label conspired with drug kingpin Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff to kill 50 Cent, according to legal documents released Tuesday (September 6).
A search warrant affidavit from 2003 published on The Smoking Gun Web site revealed that the murder was allegedly planned as retaliation for a song 50 Cent wrote that addressed McGriff's drug history.
Officials have also investigated whether the still unsolved murder of Run DMC DJ Jam Master Jay, who was shot in 2002 at a Queens recording studio, was a result of him violating the music industry's supposed blacklist of 50 Cent, the documents revealed.
In the affidavit, IRS criminal investigator Francis Mace wrote that law enforcement suspected 50 Cent's shooting in May 2000 to be payback for his song "Ghetto Koran."
Investigators believed that Inc. employees continued to aid McGriff in trying to murder 50 Cent after he endured a 2000 shooting, Mace stated.
Feds reportedly seized about 150,000 text messages from Skytel Communications, according to court documents, including a message from Inc. head Irv Gotti's brother, Christopher Lorenzo, stating "50 is in the hood guy r. brewer!"
Mace wrote that the text messages were sent to McGriff by Inc. employees who were trailing 50 Cent.
Prior to being exposed, the documents were concealed in a motion filed by Irv Gotti's defense attorney last week.
McGriff's previous attorney, Robert Simels said the document was "much ado about nothing" and that the government has presumably dismissed the claims, according to New York Newsday.
Christopher and Irv's current defense attorney Gerald Shargel also questioned the strength of the documents, stating that Christopher would have been charged with a crime if authorities had sufficient evidence concerning the plot.
The Lorenzos are expected to go on trial next month on charges of laundering more than $1 million of drug money through the Inc.

“The Game”and Black WallStreet About To Change the Game By Increasing The Harlem CashFlow!! Former G-Unit Soldier, Game.. Inks Young Harlem Rapper To Black WallStreet Game has recently signed young 17 year old HipHop artist Cashflow. Cashflow from Harlem had been in a bidding war between G-Unit and Black WallStreet. Reports Say 50Cent offered Cashflow 1 million dollars to join his G-unit Crew. But CashFlow joined Blackwallstreet for less money. Game was astounded when CashFlow took the offer and said he never heard anybody in HipHop flow like him, after hearing his catchy punchlines. Cashflow commented "My uncle Dougie was real cool with Game and they had a good relationship, plus me and Game clicked musically and I know he’s gonna go all out for me. I’m a G-unit fan and i respect what 50 is doing and I just didn’t feel that was the way for me to go" Cashflow didn’t just automatically catch the ear of Game and all the hiphop heavy weights. A little promo tour wit Ciara last year and after a few victories at Fight Klub in New York City his buzz started to grow He was out in Cali and met up with Game in the studio. Thats where it all began. We have a leak of the track that might be CashFlow’s first single we aren’t quite sure. We are trying every means necessary to get the the track that The GAME AND CASHFLOW DID. Games Comment on the signing was "I’m Clearly going to Change the Game, I got a dude that’s the whole package no artificial made up stories bout my young dude! He official”

16-09-2005, 15:44
don't you think its all funny how mase, suddenly turned jesus then back to the rap game now hes with g-unit with the hoes and swearing talk well heres the real story behind mase leavin and the found god bull sh*T
Okay well you can believe what you want but if you follow Mase and know his history this will all add up to you. Found this story out today from some friends and it makes all sense now. These are people who do know people affiliated to people in this story so I trust the sources. Anyway heres the breakdown
You ever wonder why Mase just out of nowhere left? He claimed it was because he found God, well that was partially true but not fully. Truth is there was a well known guy in Harlem. Mase was fucking his girl or wife whatever she is. Word got back around and Mase got caught. So he picked up and took off to Atlanta to basically hide out. He also took two people with him i forget the exact names but if you listen to the interview in which Jim Jones and Cam confronted him on air about it the names pop up. I remembered them as soon as I heard them. Pop Lotty and another dude.(Loon talks about this in his new diss to Mase) Anyway they all took off with Mase to Atlanta. As years passed these two guys felt it was now safe and shit was all clear for them to come back to New York. Mase was warned by the guy though and what happened next is both of these guys were murdered. Maybe just one was and one was stabbed. Either way they got hit because of Mase.
Time passed and the guy who was after Mase was murdered too. This set it up for Mase to easily come back to NY because he felt it was all clear now and he could continue to rap all of a sudden. No one questioned it except the people in Harlem i.e Loon, Diplomats, Cardan, etc because they all knew the true story.
Which is why on radio Cam and jim Jones confronted him if you remember and they kept sayin tell them Mase why you left. Tell them why you picked up and ran. We know your true story etc.
also explains cam'rons line in Welcome To New York City
"you get jam wit them jammers blam with them blammers.. its hot here.. ask mase he ran to atlanta"
If you recall Mase was very quiet too on air about it because this was now out in the open. He also started to pray and said it was for jimmy. Truth is it most likely was for his friends and himself.
Now also it should be noted since Mase thought he was free and had no wrries. He felt he could come back as the original Murda Mase he always was. However, it was Diddy who didnt want Mase associated with that. Since the Shyne case diddy has wanted to stay away from all trouble and he knew Mase was trouble now which is also why you did not see Diddy anywhere with Mase. Dont you think it would of been like the old days when Diddy was side by side with him? Well that didnt happen because Diddy knew the history himself too and he didnt want Murda MAse he wanted the soft Mase with no problems. Because he didnt want trouble again with his company. He has stayed out of all that
That now explains Mase saying on radio Bad Boy wouldnt let him be who he wanted to be etc etc
Basically that was all a act. Now fast forward to today no one hates Mase now but people in Harlem because they all think he is a fake. They know his history. Why is it even close friends of his Loon and Cardan are not even with him now? Instead they dissin him. Supposedly there are more people after him again though due to this and he joined up with G-Unit for the added security presence because basically everyone thinks if the security there we have no chance to get at you. This explains now why Diddy was so free to let him go. Diddy wasnt going to help him at all he rather Mase go to 50 and let 50 handle him while Diddy gets checks cut to him off Mase profits but now it doesnt reflect on Bad Boy what he says or does. He just gets his checks on the side. Its basically a G-Unit problem now not a Bad Boy problem.
So for people who know Mases history this will add up to you. If you been following along. It all made sense to me now when you add it all up. Pretty crazy. Long read but I thought mase fans would want to know and even mase haters.
I know i wondered why Mase just picked up and left, wondered why Jim and Cam hated him so much, wondered why Diddy wasnt helping him promote him and wasnt seen with him other than the VMA's, and also wondered how he could just let Mase go to G-Unit so easily when if you know Diddys history is never that easy i.e 112, Lox, etc.'

And this is the reason why 50 Cent sells so much.
I ordered my Trauma album by DJ Quik on the 6th I think from Amazon, as a Pre-Order. I payed extra for Fast Delivery, it was supposed to arrive on Tuesday 13th. Actually it was 3rd Degree Murder then a Higher power Court re-arrested him and are now charging him with 1st Degree Murder. Along with 'Attempted Murder, assault, and gun charges'.
There were 6 or 7 people on the scene and the only one who has been locked up so far is Cassidy.

Why was he locked up?
Rapper Mystikal was sentenced Thursday by a district court judge in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to a six-year prison term for sexual battery for attacking his former hairstylist.
Judge Anthony Marabella also required Mystikal (real name Michael
Tyler) to register with the state as a sex offender. Under Louisiana state law, Mystikal will be eligible for parole after two years behind bars.
Mystikal had originally been charged with aggravated rape and extortion on July 18, 2002, after police arrested him and two bodyguards for threatening to turn his former hairstylist in to police for cashing $80,000 worth of unauthorized checks from the rapper's bank account if she did not have oral sex with them. In Louisiana, aggravated rape carries a mandatory sentence of life without probation. On July 19, police revealed that they had found a videotape of the assault.
Apparently the video is on the net.

I jacked this from sohh...since I know everybody is trying to guess who Jay is going to air out...check this:
"50 Throws Shade At Jigga. Once again, the original hater 50 Cent is throwing shade around. This time, 50 takes pot shots at Jay-Z in the new issue of King Magazine. The article describes 50's scorn as he watches Jay-Z's opening monologue on the Fade to Black documentary. "My whole career, I've been thinking of a night like this," Jay proclaims standing in the spotlight on the stage of Madison Square Garden. "I ain't trying to get too dramatic on y'all, but that night, I felt like the luckiest man in the world." 50's first dart: "Yo, you think he wrote that himself?" The second dart comes as he belittles the retiring rappers show theatrics, full of sparks, light and a capacity-crowd of adoring fans throwing up their diamonds. "It's Madison Square Garden," 50 shrugs. "I do shows like that all the time."

No i am not saying that they are rubbish! I am saying that sometimes they get a bit preachy and the majority of people listen to music just to chill to it! If they wanted to be preached top constantly they would go to the mosque or church etc. 50 talks rubbish of course everyone knows that... but he has accessible beats which are easy to chill to i mean he talks all that crap about shooting people but then he puts it on a nice beat... if u wanna preach to me put it on a nice beat

Yeah I agree, chilling out to the likes of Piggybank or even an Eminem beat is just the shit.
Chilling out to a song with dozens of gunshots doesn't really appeal to me. If I want to chill out to a song, I would put on TQ or maybe even Dr.Dre. As he is the one with the stunning beats, 50's next album will more than likely contain tons of beats mixed by Eminem.
I thought Jay Z retired anyway?
He never retired, he just made his last album.

NO I never said that, what I said was not everyone who listens to music wants to listen to someone preach just liek that other guy said, some people want to stick something on that they can jus listen to and not have to get deep into the lyrics and understand everything the rappers tryna say, some people like putting a song on that they can just relax and listen to-or at a party...you're more likely to hear In Da Club being played that Talib Kweli-Never Been IN Love for example...because of the beat.
So Im not saying 50's better than Common because he sells more records or whatever, he sells more probably because he's easier to listen to and people hear it on radio etc.

Rapper DMX Accused Of Assaulting Fans In German Night Club
Rapper DMX Accused Of Assaulting Fans In German Night Club
By Nolan Strong
Two men have filed complaint with police in Berlin, Germany, claiming that U.S. rap star DMX assaulted them in a Berlin nightclub.
DMX was in Berlin’s Sage Club last Friday (Sept. 16) following an appearance earlier in the evening.
The rapper became involved in an altercation with Oliver Osterode, 24 and Julian Schmidt, 24, allegedly comments made while in the bathroom.
"I wanted to go to the bathroom and met DMX,” Osterode told German newspaper BZ. “I told him that I think he's cool, but Lil’ Jon is better  . Then he freaked out. He slapped me in the face, and then his bodyguards attacked us."
Osterode suffered a swollen eye, bruised ribs and other lacerations, while Schmidt reportedly suffered bruises to his abdomen.
Managers for DMX have assigned a Munich based lawyer to investigate the incident. Representatives for the rapper were not available as of press time.

And broaden your horizon from ''dumbed down music'', while you're at it. Their are plenty of ''preachers'', who rap over ''nice beats''. Twat.

Yes. They are called ''Casual Rap Fans''. You are one of them. And shouldn't even be posting in this thread.
Also you mentioned how Talib wouldn't dare be played at a club, you're right, as that music isn't made for that. 50 Cent's is. Talib makes music for you to listen and think about, maybe learn from, not dance to. Their's plenty of, bollocks lyrics + nice beat, crap to listen to.
Infact some people even make better club records than 50 Cent. Just fail to submit to gimmicks in order to catapult their fame.
50 Cent was raised in 3rd World America, he could rap about so many things. Yet descends to glorifying the problem, that creates it.
Oh! And Gun_Runner you possess such idiocy and naiveness, I fail to accept being of a same species to you. Or anyone who has been supporting your ignorant opinions.
Do you not see how your opinion in abundance could ruin the art of this music? Do you not see how your point of view could be considered why Hip Hop is supposedly dying?
Excuse me for viewing you as less of a hiphop fan and more of an MTV idoliser.

Its obvious that you think that because you know hip hop anyone with different views or that listens to so called 'commercial' 'bubblegum' rap is an idiot or doesnt know anything! That isnt fair, you will find that the majority of adults know what hip hop is really about but we CHOOSE to listen to whatever we want to listen to and we vote with our £s and $s. Call us MTV idolisers if you want but i'm sure most of us... at least i can speak for myself. I can see both sides of the fence and i choose to listen to both but more time than not i listen to commercial hip hop bcoz it is fun and helps me just to chill. sometimes i want to listen to talib, little brother etc but its a choice! Yeah some kids are just young and are only exposed to commercial hip hop fair enough. But some of us are more mature and we have CHOSEN to listen to what we want.
Concerning the beats man, thats a matter of opinion and you will find that most people wont agree with you on that! If the beat is nice your subject matter wont matter... Ask Kanye if you doubt me.... He is talking some extremely political stuff but the masses still flock to it cos the beat is hot!
If people dont wanna submit to the system and go commercial they should stop moaning. Hip Hop like the rest of the music industry is a business. The man with the cash is in it to make money, the artist is in it for the music. IF you dont wanna do what the man with the cash is saying do it your own way. Unfortunately the only problem at the moment is that the man with the cash happens to be white!

I heard lloyd banks album has been leaked months before release.
I'm not sure of this, but I think this album wasnt supposed to drop until late December or January-February. Lloyd Banks' second album, The Big Withdrawl, has leaked and is now all over the internet. And the thing is, the album isnt even finished yet. A final tracklist hasnt been set yet, and most songs arnt totally polished CDQ. Its very similar with what happened to Eminem when his the supposed first 8 tracks off of what would be Encore, leaked in December 2003 (which was titled The Straight From The Lab EP). But in this situation with Banks' new project, an entire album worth of material has leaked (23 tracks). Its going to be interesting to see how G-Unit Records responds to this.
LOYD BANKS- THE BIG WITHDRAWL
01) The Wait is Over
02) Whip Pussy
03) This is My Hood (featuring Tony Yayo)
04) A Lil Bit Colder
05) Its Simple (featuring 50 Cent)

If anyone wants to chill out to some music, then unarguably TQ is the man. I wouldn't call several blasts from guns relaxing as in many 50 Cent songs. Yet again, another "rap" artist (and I use the term "rap" there very loosely), has condradicted himself. 50 Cent used to take the piss out of the "bubblegum rap" category yet now he is at the very top of the list. 50 Cent doesn't need to make music just for the Charts or the Clubs. He makes roughly $50m a year, why does he feel the need to want more money ?
In other words, there is a world of Hip Hop beyond 50 Cent.

Yeah i know 50 talks smack i agree he is a bubble gum rapper and all he does is brag on the track but he does it on good infectious beats. His biggest track In Da Club he isnt talking about anything at all but it sold well on the back of a good hook and a nice beat! Thats the formula! He knows this Jay Z knows this, Kanye knows this.
Let me give you an example, i only recently heard Power of the Dollar for the first time the other day, i was mighty impressed, for me that was his best album, yeah he is still talking more or less the same shit he talks now but he had the hunger. Notice how he kept dissing Ja about selling out but now he is the supposed 'sell out' he is in this for the money, like most people so i say fair play to him. the answer to your question is this some people eg Jay Z, 50 are motivated by money, of course he has deeper lyrics but the current formula is working why would he want to change that?
Hip Hop is not just a music business. Hip Hop is a culture
I agree with this as well but unfortunately for this 'culture' it has found its way into the mainstream and is proving extremely profitable for some people. The ones who believe they are living the culture should stop moaning to those who dont want to live the culture! The way it is now is that most consumers of Hip Hop aren't even black, check it Snoop's last concert in the UK was reviewed in the Times. Its tiime for all these cats who are feeling the Talibs etc to stop hating on those of us who have made our choices
In other words, there is a world of Hip Hop beyond 50 Cent.
Of course there is a world beyond 50 but.... most peoples worlds dont go beyond 50, Jay Z etc.
Anyone who bought the Massacre isnt ruining Hip Hop. Hip Hop ruined its own self by trying to go commercial in the first place! You cant go commercial and keep your soul. Its a choice every artist is faced with. Play to an audience of 10 and keep your 'realness' or play to a million and water yourself down. Guess which choice proves to be more popular? What would you do?
This is what I'm talking about: Corey Gunz (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=78C9S6YT)

Money fromm music is enough surely, but to then make a Movie, Book and a bloody Computer Game is just sickening.
Hip Hop has not ruined itself, Hip Hop doesn't choose to go mainstream the "rappers" within Hip Hop choose to go mainstream.
Yet being 'real' and playing to an audience of 10 gets you much more respect than being mainstream and playing an audience of 1,000,000. I thought thats what rappers were about, doing it for the Hip Hop fans and earning a little cash along the way. Mainstream artists are the opposite of this. Especially 50, his acting is fooling the majority of his fan base. He gets ready for his Concerts by putting on a Bulletproof vest and goes performs waving Guns about. Its all a god damn act.
I also can't honestly see how anyone can find his music relaxing, but if you like it then thats your choice. I just find it impossible to relax to therefore me failing to understand your decisions.
PS: If you haven't heard TQ by now, listen to him. You could fall asleep to his music its that relaxing.

I'm not trying to save the industry you nincompoop. What's the name of this thread? Hiphop right? That's what it should represent, not G-Unit etc.
Again you are just being a naive little kid. Failing to register the positivity I am trying to explain.
Yes mate I am on my period, I go through it every once in a while I call it ''The Anti-Commercial Period''.
I semi-agree. And actually apologise for insulting you inappropriately, you seem to know what you are talking about.
Now onto your post. Hiphop was never generated for financial gain, it has been transformed into bollocks basically. Rappers selling their souls by decreasing their self-esteem just for money. Like MC Hammer for an instance, he was actually a good rapper, very talented. But was transformed into a Pop-rapper, therefore going Diamond not even Platinum, but Diamond. One of the highest selling rappers ever. It wasn't even his goal, it eventually caught up to him and he just recently managed to get his life back together. After being consumed and molested by the industry.
Now if an outstanding upcoming rapper sees the only way to be succesful is follow Mr Hammer's tracks then who is to blame?
The idiots that are only attract by the image of the musician? Or the man who makes these images? I say the first.
Haha Gunplay is an arse, just ignore him. Just cos some people dont like fucking Talib, doesnt mean we sit round watching fucking mtv.

Who said I hate non-Talib Kweli fans? Please learn how to interpret posts properly, fool.
It's not what people are talking about at all. As most of you lot go to other sources to inform you on hiphop. Whether it be MTV or Allhiphop. Ofcourse you won't stop listening to Tony Yayo because I told you to, but you would if a greater source was to do so.
but for Gunplay to say we ruin hip-hop or whatever by listening to that sort of music, its just plain annoying and he needs to stop preaching.
Preaching? You must be into that, seen as you listen to the likes of Nas and Common, right?
You are incredibly childish, if you don't want to read other peoples opinions, like mine then simply stop listening to music all together.
I have defended hiphop so many times from the stereotypes, but it's people like yourself who fail to argue on an intellectual level, that keep those stereotypes on their toes.
Anyone who bought the Massacre isnt ruining Hip Hop. Hip Hop ruined its own self by trying to go commercial in the first place! You cant go commercial and keep your soul. The rest of your post is superb apart from this.
Hiphop did not sell itself out at all. People with power just began noticing it as such a phenomena, they later decided to make money out of it. Slowly degrading artists and the culture itself.
Let's take water for an example, it is meant to be free, but we have to buy it? Why? Because people with power noticed it as a great way of making money. Now will you say water sold itself out? No, because that'll be ridiculous.

Also please don't get a forum mixed up with the real world. I obviously don't type how I would conversate with you, I have a keyboard and loads of time, as inspiration. I like to make good use of the education I've been provided in my life (mainly English). Instead of letting it deteriorate in the phenomenon that is known as ''txt-spkin''.

haha your a twat
I also apologise to hunter, if you notice I wrote that very early in the morning, when I got in after a night out, and I was a bit drunk. And I obviously read it wrong.
I think you should get out a bit more.

As should Gunplay...oh that is, unless hes learning some of his English to expand on his education that we all know he uses on online forums...sad act.

I'm a twat because you were drunk during your previous post? Right  .
I think due to the fact you worship downloads and also own a childish site called ''pisstanks'', makes the ''you need to get out more'' act, slightly contradicting.

Seriously, is that brain of yours filled with hot air? An absolutely hopeless reply, that makes no sense.
I'm sure I ain't the only one who thinks ''txt-spkin'' and ''anti-grammar type posts'' are evil anyway.

No your a twat for talking shite all the time.
And i was saying sorry to hunter, because I misread what he had written, when I had a few to drink. And if you look at my site, its about me and my friends going out and having fun.
But since you have no friends, you wouldnt know what thats like. And what the fuck is this worshipping downloads, you soft cunt? Do you realise how gay you sound?

I'm not trying to save the industry you nincompoop. What's the name of this thread? Hiphop right? That's what it should represent, not G-Unit etc.
Again you are just being a naive little kid. Failing to register the positivity I am trying to explain.
Yes mate I am on my period, I go through it every once in a while I call it ''The Anti-Commercial Period''.
You made some very interesting observations in your post. 50 Cent prophesied this stuff in his Album 'Power of the Dollar' People like MC Hammer were faced with a choice and he made that choice.... the power of the dollar. He chose money over artistic integrity. Jay Z said on a verse on Black Album that if the shit Common etc rapped about was selling he would do the same! You cannot say that hip hop selling out was not the fault of the artists! That is naive these people are all adults and they made decisions for commercial gain. Someone like Nas who is my favourite rapper has had a confused career because of the fact that he isnt sure whether to rap for commercial gain or to 'keep it real'
Like i keep saying it is a matter of choice rappers aren't victims, by and large they are just in it to make money and they wanna do whatever to get that.... considering most are from unprivileged backgrounds which choice do you expect them to make?
Your example of water highlights an interesting point which is how stupid people choose to be the world is 2/3 water and yet people pay money for it because of the way it is marketesd, again like i keep reiterating this is a matter of choice!
Granted hip hop culture does exist but unfortunately for people like yourself you have to realise it is now become popular culture, the line between real hip hop and commercial hip hop will continue to be blurred because now that the powers that be have seen that it is a money spinner they will keep taking their bags of money to those under privileged souls who want it! The ones who do turn it down will not get the exposure that probably their talents deserve! They shouldnt complain about it rather... they should understand that they have made a choice!
The only real alternative is for Hip hop money to back hip hop artists 100% then perhaps we can listen to the music that we possibly may want to hear more of. But i cant see that happening especially with all the endorsements flying around from non-traditional sources, and the fact that Def Jam, BET, Choice FM(UK) and other former pioneers of raw underground talent are now owned by big Multi-National/corporate companies means that commercial gain will still be above artistic innovation for the forseeable future! Except people like Nas, Jay Z, eminem, Dre put their own money up to promote 'real hip hop' Can you see that happening? No because they are owned by these corporations too! Once again that was a choice they aren't victims!
If you dont read this entire psot please just read this main point. Hip Hop is not a victim this is the path it chose to take!

Hip-hop has been popular culture for years, but you make a good point there. And there's no going back. The good thing is there's always many artists to choose from, so you can find artists and albums you really like.
When looking at most of the top-sales charts, it's really annoying how small the lack of knowledge on good music is. I can't believe how "The Massacre" has out sold Common's "Be". But I'm not complaining, I find it a lot more satistying to listen to less popular stuff. It's always nice to know some up and coming artists before they hit it big time.
In the future hip-hop is going to be the new rock n' roll (if it already isn't). It will be listened to anywhere in the world, and by anyone. If I'm not wrong, african-americans also invented rock n roll too, Elvis and co just made it into a easier approachable package. Kind of the same thing Eminem did to Hip-Hop.
And I hope some of the guys can keep it a bit calmer, we can have a better conversation with providing our opinions not calling eachother twats. : )

I agree with you 110% i didnt want to make that observation about hiphop being the new rock n roll bcoz the gun guy will not be happy to accept that statement although all the evidence at the moment suggests that it will be!

How do you know that Gunplay wouldn't be happy with the statement. Even if he doesn't like the statement, this is how arguments start. This thread doesn't need another argument, its great as it is now. Some very good posts and points of views going both ways. Every thread should have posts like this one has at the moment, people putting across extremely interesting opinions in a nice friendly manner.

I didnt mean that statement in an argumentative way i meant i thought he would say that, the popularised version of hip hop doesnt represent true hip hop... which would then be a different argument entirely... as in what is true hip hop or rather what are the characteristics of a true hip hop artist?

Who are you? And where have you been all this time? You totally covered the situation of this debate from top to bottom, with a torpedo of well thought out opinions.
I still reluct though. Hiphop is not Jay-Z, Nas, MC Hammer etc. Hiphop is a movement that has been crippled by brutal record executives.
You seem greatly informed on the genre, can you remember a record label known as Rawkus? Which hosted artists such as Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch etc. Basically ''true hiphop artists'', who weren't even in it for money.
They eventually went bust after years of severity, unable to keep up with the industry in general.
In a way? It sort of sums up hiphop. Take this thread for an instance, I am left arguing with 2 casual hiphop fans, who to an extent will actually take my resistance as an insult to their musical tastes. Thus defending MTV, defending commercial rap.
If those people who put Rawkus out of business are able to get fans to defend them, then what a fucked up time it is to be associated with hiphop.

I am just a music fan who has watched the development of hip hop and also read widely on the subject! I remember Rawkus in fact it just reminds me of that Pharoahe Monch album Internal affairs that was a very good album!
