Well...to everyone: If ya gonna come into a Hip-Hop forum and berate it, at least have the decency to hold quite a vast amount of knowledge on the artform you are dismissing...cause you will get pulled up on it...thanks.
Its a PES Forum, get it straight mate. This is a Hip/Hop 'Thread'. Difference eh ? ;)
People don't have to know set amounts or even know much at all, they should be able to happily post in here and get advice on what to listen to. People should be able to ask questions and get answers, learn Hip-Hop and not be 'pulled up' because they don't know as much as the next person might.

OK then, its a Hip-Hop thread, and my point being that if you slag the music off without any real knowledge then you will get pulled, ask questions, ask advice, yes, thats fine but dont blindly slag it off when you have a limited knowledge, thats my point.

Id have to strongly agree with the disagreement.
Lupe Fiasco is also a refreshing upcoming rapper who's recently blown. Talks about money and bitches ? Nope.
I'm just giving my opinion here, just as someone said yesterday all Indie music sounds the same now, its not true.
But i've heard Lupe Fiasco and i do like what i've heard.
Kick, Push is refreshing and different and it grew on me straight away.
But 90% of rappers now DO rap about the wrong things.
It's the whole Hip/Hop scene that leads people to believe they're part of that winds me up. Kids from England saying they're from the "Ghetto" fuck that, put em in a dirty street in the dirtiest part of America and they wouldn't last 5 minutes. I fail to see how people from England can say things like that without going through it themselves, when Rap/Hip Hop artists sing about "coming up from...." or whatever you know 80% of the time it's real, but when people from over here say it they have no experience of it.
How often do you hear of drive by shootings, gang wars etc in England? Nowhere near as much as America.
Kids fall into the music too easily and are influenced by it, and too many rappers are putting the wrong message across. Thats my OPINION.

'Might' is not an option, the song is a must.
Nas tore Jay limb from limb with that song, something Takeover never did.

I couldnt agree more on that point. Thats what annoys me...Hip-Hop is so much better than that.
I couldnt agree more on that point. Thats what annoys me...Hip-Hop is so much better than that.
it is, i totally agree, although it's not my sort of music it's a very powerful genre and you have to be talented to rap. But too many rappers get on the stage, a very big stage, being able to reach millions of people and they're rapping about the wrong thing, it's disappointing.
Has anybody heard Papoose new mixtape The 1.5 Million Dollar Man?
Just downloaded right now, if you want to hear it i'll post up the link.
New Roots leaked - it's awesome.
New Roots leaked - it's awesome.
Damn you JoeyM. I'm resisting the urge, only a month or so to go. Thanks for the feedback though, not that I'm surprised by it.
''Don't Feel Right'' is class, Black Thought is insanely focussed, I can listen to it all day. The best band out there IMO.
Are we smelling a classic Joey?
''In the land of the unseen hand, and hold trouble
Theorize your game, it's difficult to roll a double
The struggle ain't right up in your face, it's more subtle
But it's still coming across like the bridge and tunnel vision
I try to school these bucks, but they don't wanna listen
That's the reason the system making it's paper from the prison''
I repeat, insanely focussed!
It's brilliant, the entire album is focussed, it clocks in at only 47 minutes, and is just 13 tracks, one of which is an intro. Of the 12 songs I only don't like 2, and that's only because the hooks get on my nerves. If you want to download one more track to hold you over to the release then I'd definitely recommend Atonement. Or Game Theory. Or Here I Come. Or Long Time. Or...well you get the idea.;)
Is it a classic? Time will tell, but if I'm still listening to it in a month from now as much as I am now, then I'll have an answer. But for now it's definitely up there for album of the year so far with Fishscale, and that's coming from someone who loved Fishscale more than most.

Don't feel right couldn't really fail to be honest, because the chords on the piano are pretty much the same as the next movement, which, of course, is awesome. Good to hear the Roots back on form though, just waiting for the next Nas, Common and Talib now. Things are picking up!

New Roots leaked - it's awesome.
I've never been to fond of the roots....but i did love their first single, "what they do", to the point i bought the album "Ilphadiphia".....and honestly I thought it was CRAP...despite hip/hop heads saying it's a classic.
Maybe I think it's crap because i'm not mature enough to be listening to their music; I was like 15 when i got their album and i still think the album is CRAP...maybe in 5 or 6 years time I might appreaciate the album lol!

Seriously, what is not to like about Big L ?
Up there with the best ever easily and Lifestylez of..... was a classic album, listen to songs such as 'All Black' and 'MVP', in fact just get the album. His 1998 Freestyle is also superb:
"I got enough bread, and mad hoes, ask Beavis I get nothing Butt-head."
Genius.
Big L was quality, shame his life was taken away so early.
Im currently listening to Slick Rick, unbelievably funny.
Hey Hunter you heard that '95 freestyle he done with Jay-Z?
"I'm so ahead of my time my parents haven't even met yet"
Who do you guys think is the best rapper alive today?
you can include rappers from underground, or people like Rakim and kool g rap
I reckon it is people like:
Immortal
Saigon
Nas
Tech N9ne
Best rapper alive today? Hmmmm.... i say people like;
Nas, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent (Why hasnt he bought out any singles since Hustla's ambition?), Immortal, T.I. That's my opinion anyways.
50 cent was at his peak earlier this year, Ok, my "Opinion" is probably biased but i think he should be on that list. (Biased?).
At his peak earlier this year? How? What has he released this year? 50 Cent on any 'best rapper alive' list isn't biased, just uneducated.

5. 50 Cent
6. Eminem
7. Mos Def (BIG in America ;))
8. Busta Rhymes (He is still in the game)
9. Twista (well he is the fastest)
10. Fort Minor (I Beleive he is a great talent) (no really)

Probably Common, or Nas, when judging just as a rapper.

We all have different opinions and IMO, 50 deserves to be there. Life wouldn't be worth it if we didn't all have opinions, so lets leave it at that.

The Massacre was classed as successful due to statistical record sales but it was indeed an absolutely shite album. Having a No.1 means fuck all today.

Ski Mask Way - Great
Ryder Musik - Great
fair enough songs on that album like "In My Hood" were very poor but the ones i listed are great those are the majority of the album so whats the problem.

Dude honestly, save yourself the inevitable slatings and just leave it. People don't really use this thread to talk about artists like 50 cent. Without being anal, it's a hip-hop thread not a rap thread, and as was discussed a few pages back there is a difference.

Just in case you haven't heard of Sway - go and buy his album.
UK hip-hop, very witty, class flow - and better than 95% of the across-the-water rappers.
Also, AOTP (Army of the Pharoahs) have an album called The Torture Papers, which is pretty good. Links with Jedi Mind Tricks mean the production's solid, and there's a few stand-out lyrical performances to boot.
But seriously, go and buy Sway's album.

Good album, definetely worth buying. I bought 2 actually, long story. Still wrapped if anyone wants to buy it cheap.
Just bought a few albums recently since I was away for a few days on holiday. They had quite a few shops selling cheap CD's. Bought:
Talib Kweli - Quality
Big L - The Big Picture
Jurassic 5 - Quality Control
Ghostface Killah - Bulletproof Wallets
Genius/GZA - Liquid Swords
Haven't listened to them yet like but I think I'll start now.

These are the band to take the UK on to the next level in Hip Hop.

No, no, no. Outerspace is Planet and Crypt, two brothers that have been featured in JMT tracks but are now independent.
They are also from Philly and are connected with the whole JMT & AOTP clicks.
They have this one track called Angels of Death that features Vinnie Paz and Immortal Technique...Nuff said.

Time to bring this thread back
Here this bunch of bullshit
Rap star Mos Def was arrested last night (Aug. 31) after MTV's VMA's because he didn't have authorization to perform outside of Radio City Music Hall in New York.
The rapper, born Dante Smith, was charged with disorderly conduct after attempting to perform on a flatbed truck for a crowd outside of the event.
Police ordered the rapper to end his impromptu performance of "Katrina Clap," a freestyle criticizing the Bush administration's response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
The request to halt the performance was not immediately relayed to MOs Def. According to reports, members of the rapper's entourage were arrested as well.
Representatives for MOs Def said the rapper was unjustly arrested and that the whole situation was captured on camera.
Mos Def was released this morning (Sept. 1).
If it would have been a rock or pop singer they probably would have let it swing
Also just downloaded Root's Game theory album will drop back with some info once I've gone through

I can't be bothered to read all 80 pages so I don't know what everyone is talking about so I will just name the people who I think are TOP QUALITY.
Kanye West
Pharrel
T.I.
Lupe Fiasco
Mos Def
Most hip-hop artists or rappers are whack, for example 50 Cent, Nelly, Chingy, Fat Joe, Missy Elliot, R. Kelly, and alot lot more.
Add to the list of whack rappers: Pharrel, Kanye West and possiby TI in terms of rapping ability.
Kanye is a great producer though, however I dislike the majority of beats made by Pharrel.
I am not a big fan of Lupe Fiasco, but what I do like about him is that he doesnt act like a gangster unlike other rappers and thats the kind of people I would like to see in Hip hop
Lupe Fiasco is an immense rapper. Without a shadow of a doubt one of the best in recent years I reckon. His flow is superb, wordplay is quality and his metaphors are up to scratch too. He even has moments where I believe he's a genius.
Can't wait for the finished Food & Liquor to hit stores late this month. Although the front cover has got to be one of the shoddiest I've seen.

Neither Kanye and Pharrel are rappers, simple. They are barely good rappers, Kanye's great beats just cover his lack of ability on the mic although sometimes his subject matters are good but doesn't make him a good rapper. Pharrel, well, just no.
TI is more of a natural rapper than the likes, however it gets a bit annoying aftera period of time.

I really hate Pharrel, can't believe he's had so many Hits.

Problem with Pharrel was that it was the Chinese guy (Chad Hugo) that was making them big (He was really the producer master mind). They haven’t been seen together in a long time which explains why In my Mind , was so atrocious on many levels, especially on production. In fact Chad did not do any production.
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/37523/Pharrell_In_My_Mind
Lupe fiascos album is okay. Its not a classic, and I wouldn’t say its great, but its good/adequate.
However I have lost a bit of respect for him. After I heard his first track.
http://xxlmag.com/online/?p=4881
It’s an opinion, but talking about selling drugs and shooting people, and now criticizing those people/ their music is kind of hypocritical.
If anything I've gained more respect for Lupe, going from "Pop,Pop" to "Kick,Push" & "American Terrorist". Remarkable eh ?
Undoubtedly the advance of Food & Liquor is greater than the official release unfortunately. However whilst talking about such materialistic things from time to time, he does it in such a different way people are bound to misinterpret his views. Hustlaz Song is a great track for example.

Lupe is ok I don't understand why the world is dick riding him, and please everyone stop hating on 50 Cent the man has a plan and forget the fact that his raps aren't great he knows how to sing a great hook and also how to pick a good beat

Hunter
Yeah he has great tracks in his album. I would say his lyrics were quite good its the production that limped a bit.
I never downloaded the advance, but i will now, I never payed too much attention to him back then.
It would be a great change from 'gangsta' to 'real person' but I kinda question if it was real to begin with, because he never mentions it untill now?
I wouldn't hold it against him since most rappers are fakes, just suprised to hear something like that from him.
Lupe Fiasco's album is the shit right now. Probably the album of the year so far. Not a single weak song in there, and the whole package works like a dream. Great rapping and nice beats.
About T.I. he isn't a great writer, but he has a good entertaining flow. Probably the hottest rapper in the south right now.

Coming from an indie perspective, Lupe's tapped into the niche market where pople across genres like him. Kanye did it, now Lupe is too.
I've been listening to A Breath of Fresh Attire by The Mitchell Brothers recently.

It's not even close to Game's album in my opinion

Very true, beyond a reasonable doubt. However, his new album is supposed to be reminiscent of the legend from what I've been told. A near classic apparently. So I'm certainly going to give it a listen, maybe you will now.

Then of course the refusal to do a 213 album for years.
Added with the fact he is nothing without Dre and Tha DOC by his side guiding him.

Indeed that is a FACT. Although I think Dre should never have stopped holding his hand, most tracks where they have collaborated since Doggystyle sees a glimpse of the slick young pup he used to be. My opinion of course but personally I think Snoop's name is on far too many tracks, quality over quantity any day.
Whether I'm looking forward to his latest album is another matter. I just seem pessimistic about any new rap albums coming out at the moment. I'm just going to listen to my 90's rap again & again until I die.
Snoop's album is pretty good, much better than Doctor's Advocate which was fairly average.
Kingdom Come is just...ugh.

No way man, I think Game's gone real westcoast on this album. So it depends of what type of rap your accustomed to East or West. This new one shits all over The Documentary.

:( Not to worry a DPG album is on the way next year. Thats what the worlds been missing...
I watched the American Music Awards, a few hours ago. Both Snoop and Jay-Z peformed a track from their new albums. I wasn't too impressed.
I'm not into that pimp daddy/player nonsense, unless it is done with gusto, and that i saw nothing of, last night.
Snoop's got style, and he can rap, and Jay-Z has produced good tracks, but i prefer rappers that spit about real shit. Not that Tony Montana wannabe, crap.
Neither of them could battle someone like Immortal Technique and live to tell about it.
wat do u lot think about snoop dogs new song Vato.
Immortal Technique is probably one of the worst rappers on the planet when it comes to actual skill. His flow and delivery are awful.
He can make some intelligent, insightful songs, but for the most part he just comes across as a crabby cunt trying to be controversial. He's a fairly average rapper that pseudointellectuals love to harp on a about.

Agreed to some extent. His messages are often superb, just his flow spoils songs.

Have to agree with you there JoeyM!
When you listen to he rap it sounds just to bland, obviously what he has to say is more important, but like i said he sounds to bland.

Here is a little guardian review of Jay-Z's new album http://music.guardian.co.uk/urban/reviews/story/0,,1944879,00.html

Immortal maybe a bit bland, but i don't think that Jay-Z's and Snoop's flow or voice, is any better.
Besides, how can you say that he is one of the worst? He may not be as fast or melodical as others in the field, but the man can rhyme.
I don't mean to sound too underground, but it seems to me that commercial rap has taken over your senses.

Jay-z has one of the best flows in rap history
Download a couple tracks, Dead Presidents in particular
Jay-Z's flow used to be one of the best. Just listen to Kingdom Come and you will agree that he has started to decline.
The Chris Martin produced track is one of the few stand-out tracks on the album
To be honest I was very disappointed with Jay's comeback. Besides Beach Chair, Show Me What You Got and Kingdom Come are the few tracks that I have liked.
I'm going to give this album more time, but it doesn't sound awfully good on first few listens.
I just hope Nas can produce a good album :)

yo how gd is snoop doggs new track - Vato+ The Game - One Blood
Vato is one of the worst tracks I've heard in a while. Very repetitive and annoying. I'm a fan of both Snoop & B-Real and to say I was disappointed would be an understatement.
One Blood is the better track out of the two, although to me the guy in the background saying 'One Blood' in each bar while Game raps just sounds horrible. Not too bad musically but both Game & rap music has so much better to offer.

Well I am cynical these days about most rap tracks and I can understand a little why you might like One Blood. It was played extremely loud at a mates party the other day and it was the highlight of the music played that night (although I was very.. very.. drunk ;)).
Vato to me is just annoying. I heard it earlier today and I can't get it out of my head, unfortunately for all the wrong reasons.

Jay's flow when he was in his prime was effortless, and Snoop is probably one of the most technically gifted rappers out there, even if he never says anything worthwhile.
Immortal can rhyme, you're right, just not as well as most other rappers, I'm sure there are worse out there, and judging flow can come down to personal opinion, but I'm struggling to think of another signed rapper who has worse delivery.
And commercial rap has taken over my senses? Why? Because I value delivery in addition to lyrics?

Couldn't agree more. I wasn't expecting too much from Jay, but I was very disappointed with the production. Show Me What You Got, Kingdom Come, and Oh My God (all of which were by Just Blaze) were well produced, but everything else sounds second rate, including the Dre beats.
So where would you put Jay-Z amongst the best?
I have seen on various shows and websites saying Jay-Z is the best rapper due to being in the rap game longer than other legends

Saying Jigga is the greatest is a fair opinion to anyone that thinks that.
I personally believe 2Pac was the greatest rapper.
- Work Rate
- Commercial appeal
- Street appeal
- Contraversy
- Raw when he needs to be
- An awesome flow which Is so underated
- A Delivery which was just unbelievable at times
- Perfection between poetry and rap
- Lyrically great too
He may not have been the, punchline or metaphor king but pac was just and still is amazing to listen too.
So many hit songs that were commercial hits that were soo real.
I would say Nas too but consistancy wise hes very Meh... Still amazing lyrically.
But most will say Rakim which is totally understandable
I wouldn't have him anywhere near the GOAT personally, for starters due to his unsavory obsession with stealing all things Notorious B.I.G.
A few Big L quotables too ;)
By the way has anyone heard Pac's new album " Pac's Life "
Got to say its a great breath of fresh air from Loyal to the game. Probably the best Pac release since " Better Dayz "
Songs to Watch on that album :
Dumpin ft Fatal and Papoose
Untouchable ft Krayzie Bone
Sleep ft Young Buck and Chamillionaire
Playa Cardz Right ft Keyshia Cole
As Soon as I get home ft Kadafi
^^^^^ Favourites off the album at the moment
in September of 2003, he received the coveted "Hip Hip Quotable" in the Source for a song entitled "Industrial Revolution" from his unreleased second album. Consequently since he didn't have a record deal or distribution at the time, Immortal Technique is the only rapper in history to have a Hip Hop Quotable while being unsigned.
Since when is rapping about real shit, boring? Technique speaks truth and is always on point, regardless of how marketable his voice or style may be. To me, that's far more valuable than having a good flow and a good voice, whilst rapping about retarded issues. Which in no way means that i agree with some of you. He has made plenty of good tracks and his voice and flow aren't as bad as you say they are.
Maybe, him being so boring and so awful, is the reason so many well known producers and rappers have made projects with him.
Next, you lot will be telling me that Stoupe and Vinnie Paz are shite because Vinnie raps like a madman.

Anyone have any idea why will.i.am is producing every other track right now?
Listening to Eminem's album The Re Up. It's ok so far but I am not to keen on Ca$his and Stat quo to be honest, their tracks on the album sound average
AZ's new album was a positive suprise. Although his flow has always been damn smooth.

First off, no one has said he was awful, just boring. It's just that there are plenty of rappers who are just as good lyrically and have 10x the technical skill on the mic.
AZ's new album was a positive suprise. Although his flow has always been damn smooth.
Yeah, I thought it was pretty good. Production was spotty in some parts though, as it is with most AZ albums. If I was rich I'd fund an entire AZ-DJ Premier album with my on cash, it'd be worth it.

I stumbled on it while looking for this scarface clip. lol
We have a new best rapper alive ladies and gentlemen and it's not Jay-Z, it's Lil Wayne according to the new cover of Complex Magazine where he appears on the cover with Travis Barker (formerly of Blink 182).
Weezy F. Baby who once said that he was the: "Best rapper alive since the best rapper retired," is now retracting that statement since the God MC's return with 'Kingdom Come.'
"I'm better than him," Wayne said in the new issue of Complex magazine, which features the Cash Money Millionaire on the cover with Travis Barker. "I'm 24 years old. ... I'm 13 years deep with five albums and 10 million records sold."
Jay's boasts of being "Hip-Hop's savior" and how the genre needs an "event album" to keep it afloat, ruffled Birdman's son's feathers.
"I don't like what he's saying about how he had to come back because hip-hop's dead and we need him," Wayne said. "What the f--- do you mean? If anything it's reborn, so he's probably having a problem with that. You left on a good note, and all of the artists were saying, "Yo, this is Jay's house. He's the best." Now he comes back and still thinks it's his house... It's not your house anymore, and I'm better than you."
Wayne could've taken exception to Jay if he heard "Trouble" where many believe Hov may be dissing Wayne, even if it's reaching. Lines like: "blasphemous bastard get your faith restored/ your viewing your version of the lord, god/ MC lil ni**a, applaud, or/ Forever burn in the fire I spit at ya'll."
His allegiance with Dipset could've also changed his view on "Muhammad Hovi" as Jay calls himself. Could the "Show Me What You Got" remix been the starter of all this? Weezy went so hard at the track, and to many, outshined Hov on the cut.
Some would say: "Why bite the hand that feeds you?" If you go back, remember Hov stood up for Weezy, co-signed him, and even attempted to bring him to Def Jam. Will Hov respond? This could be viewed as motivation for Hov, as he celebrated his 37th birthday Monday and despite subpar reviews of 'Kingdom Come,' he will probably top the charts for the 2nd week in a row. Last week, he sold around 680,000 copies.
The argument begins: Kingdom Come vs. The Carter II...A battle of the Carter's young and old in the making? Possibly.
But, there are other MC's who Wayne may have to put the war paint on for as he is also said to have dissed the Clipse and Pharell in the issue as well. Strange, as he will be opening up in Chicago for the Clipse on December 9th. But, if you look into it, think of this Pusha T verse that came out a few months ago and interpret it yourself: "If he claim king (T.I.)/ and he claim best (Wayne)/ then I guess you can call me God!"
If there's any war capable of starting, its Clipse vs Wayne, as we all know Pusha and Malice aren't happy with people brushing them off as top lyricists in the South. Remember
these three and "What Happened to that Boy"? The past is the past I guess. You also got to remember the friendship Gillie Da Kid and the Clipse have always had. It wouldn't be shocking to see all 3 getting at the King of CMR.
After a slow year in rap, this along with some of the much publicized December releases from Jeezy, Ghost, and Nas may resurrect Hip-Hop from the grave.
Suprisingly Lil wayne is highly rated but to be honest I don't rate him at all and to say he is better then Hov is just ridiculous
He's not too bad but is highly overrated. Not one of my favourites

And yeah shit, I forgot Skinnyman aswell. His album, Council Estate Of Mind, was pretty amazing. "Fuck the Hook" is a great track. He's been around for a while and adapted to the new style/wave of UK Hip-Hop. Come to think of it, there's a lot of UK rappers capable of competing with America now, man.

[Nas - First Verse]
look here see, pretty mike shanked two face al
over some gal
find the body dead in the aisles
death by strangulation, microphone cord a dirty broad
guess theyll never play it again Sam
damn that was my jam
now she's on the lamb
she made it out wit 200 grand
what a scam
while these two compete on who's the star of the show
golden legs there makes off wit the doe
I read the paper there wit joe da butcher
he said "one glance is all it took ya, she's a real looker
they say her old mans a bootlegger
transporting in any weather and at this rate we'll never get her"
fellas think its time to call it a night
all this talk of this mystery dames gettin me tight
thought I saw her in my eyesight, right
hate to spoil the party
what are you guys havin? the same?
waiter another round for the gang
its strange how I always felt outta place
joe da butchers my ace, but in comes freckle face
so I said see you later
fore hurt him and his two ugly thumb breakers
met them in louisiana wrestling gators
and any idiot can tell there involved wit the caper
so I pulled the revolver on my waist up
between the patrol car and the grey truck behind the streetlamp was a silouhette
white gloves and a real long cigarette
whattya ya know all this time she's got me in her scope
she spoke says " the devils got you guys be the throat
your conspiracy theories won't work without evidence
that's the reason why eric b is not president"
ya see?
[Nas - Second Verse]
look here see, I know you got soul your trying to hide it
how did you kill a man out in cypress?
one eyed charlie
he only hangs with the criminal minded
says you guys did it doggystyle is he lyin?
she says " walk this way ill tell you a childrens story
we hit the bodega got her a few 40s
we jumped in my ride
we drove and she cried
twist off the cap there and opened her mouth wide
swallowed it
whole bottles half empty
drinks like a fish, now she's past tipsy
truth came out as we got to her suave house
chopped and screwed her mouth and sat me on the couch
I said its gettin late cmon give it to me straight
who's ya sponsor lady?
she says bill gates
whattya born 77? 78?
she says "nah it goes way to an earlier date, slave times
claims the slaves said rhymes but she fell in love wit some fella named clive
who?
clive campbell from sedgwick ave, the bronx
now she shows me the cash
I said who's clive? don't play wit me skirt!
she said clive campbell.....he's kool herc
Ahaaa Ahaaaaa
[Nas Outro]
listen up sweetheart, now we gettin somewhere
as she's talkin she starts vanishing in thin air
but before she drops the money bag on the floor and died
she said if you really love me, ill come back alive
-----
SYNOPSIS
now lets get some things straight since its a story there's characters, setting and plot
the plot is who killed hip-hop?
the setting is 1930s the golden era; the manifestation of jazz, mobsters, bootlegging and organized crime
the characters are nas the detective and his partner joe da butcher
freckle face who is joe da butchers connection to the underworld
and hip-hop who is the girl in the story a.k.a. the gal
now what happens is pretty mike and two face al kill each other and the gal runs off with the money
pretty mike and two face al are B.I.G. & Tupac and its a psuedonym for hip-hop maximizing its commercialism which is why the gal runs off with the money
the murder of two face al is directly referencing tupac dying first
now this all occured at some club where the classic jams go on sung by the gal
that is why nas says damn that was my jam because she will never be singing there again
the setting is further portrayed through the uses of microphone cord as the murder weapon and the fact the body was found in the aisle
now joe da butches represent the average hip-hop listener
his name simply breaks down to joe a.k.a. the average joe schmo and da butcher part is a reference to "chewing the fat" which means just kicking simple convo chillin
now after joe mentions to nas that he realizes he's falling for her nas hits the bar a lil aggitated
he realizes its the same scene at the bar but says f*ck it and drinks are on him
that represent nas going commercial and he admits it but tries to counteract that by saying "but I always felt outta place" which means he sold out but still puts out real hip-hop
the symbolism in the bar scene is that joe the da butcher is nas partner but his southern connects (freckle face and company) are involved wit this crime
joe is none the wiser a.k.a. the average listener supports southern music regardless of all this south trash talk (jeezy, ludacris, lil jon, rick ross)
nas gets a lil ticked off and heads outside and realizes the gal has been trailin him the whole time
that's basically saying that even though he didn't kno it hip-hop HAS been followin him for a while
next thing she steps out the shadow and he says "all this time she had me in her scope"
in her scope = interscope
nas starts the story saying "death by strangulation" but death = def
basically he was saying that def jam started the "killing" (when it commercialized hip-hop) and now interscope
runs it
at this point he is saying the crackers took control of the art hence the reference to conspiracy theorys behind this whodunit
"that's why eric b is not president" pretty much sums it up
so def jam chokeholded the game and then universal picked it up
at this point nas has some evidence so he starts interrogating the broad
"I know you have soul quit tryin to hide it" is obviously saying that hip-hop has soul but its obscured by the commercialism
nas uses the interrogation wisely by bringing up cypress hill and snoop dogg referencing the classics just flippin the phrases
if you can't figure it out then your pretty f*ckin stupid
she (hip-hop) supposedly killed a man in cypress which is a project in brooklyn
cypress hill how I could just kill a man
and one eyed charlie (krs-one) who only hangs with the criminal minded (bdp) said they did it doggystyle (snoop dogg) but obviously referencing sex
at this point she puts everything in perspective for nas IN ORDER because nas was out of chronological order by mentioning 92 then 91 then 88
so she begins by asking him to "walk this way" (run dmc) and she will tell him a childrens story (slick rick)
this is starting out raw hip-hop in the 80s
"got her a few 40s" is now referencing the west coast era domination as well hoppin in the "ride"
at this point hip-hop started losing "it" because it was being bombarded by commercial gangsterism and losing its origins
the getting tipsy part refers to hip-hop totally losing control and becoming almost completely pop (the bad boy era)
"as we got to her suave house chopped and screwed her mouth" is now moving on to the south moving on in at the close of the shiny suit era and is cleverly flipped to nas getting oral sex by hip-hop he finally gave in
after he f*cks her she spills the beans and tells him that bill gates sponsored her to destroy hip-hop through means of downloading and extreme piracy
remember hip-hops father was a bootlegger and now her sponsor is one of the largest helpers in the creation of bootlegging
at this point she just breaks down and admits she is IMMORTAL because no regular human could be alive in BOTH slave times AND the 1930s
she says she came from that era and had many lovers since but her one true love was kool herc (pioneer of hip-hop, some say sole creator)
but then she obviously f*cked him over and fell to the pressure of the root of all evil, money (the 200 grand) (by the way 200 grnd in 1930 is worth MILLIONS)
at this point the gig is up and she begins to fade away magically but lets nas know its his inner spirit that really keeps hip-hop alive
she really didn't need the money in the end
hope yall learned something

Sway's quality. I'd definately reccommend "This is my Demo" for those who haven't got it.
Love that track, been listeening to it quite a lot just lately.
Check these out I doubt you will have heard these before.

I got the advance's and there prolly the best albums of the year.
If you didn't know Sway won a BET Hip-Hop Award for "Best UK Hip-Hop Act". He beat Black Twang, Plan B, Dizzee Rascal and Kano. Hopefully this will get him noticed in America and make a few Collaborations with US artists. He did a remix to 'Up your Speed' with Chamillionaire.

I'm not sure if I liked God's Son more.
Food & Liquor is the best hip-hop album for me this year. Nas's is among the best of course.
And I almost forgot to add that the new Clipse album is suprisingly good. Pharrell has got his shit together again with some of the tracks. Trill & Mr. Me Too would be number one singles if they'd been promoted better.

Thanks, I've streamed it before, but never been able to find a download. Fantastic song, it's on the Dreamwriters soundtrack iirc, may be on his new album also.
Surprised that Pac still has the selling power he does, considering the amount of albums released under his name. And John Mayer is urban:shocking: ? 300k is a decent amount for Lupe, I never really expected it to go platinum considering apart from Kick Push most of his other singles weren't to popular. At least he didn't do a Rhymefest and barely sell 15k.

Young Jeezy is selling a nice load. Well the album has a few good singles so the sales aren't that surprising.
Shame that two of the best albums of the year byLupe & Clipse haven't done as well. But you cannot measure everything on money.

Numbers wise, Jeezy is one of the best, but that's only because he still has a connection with both the street and mainstream.
I didn't think the Clipse' album was all that great, had more potential.

Yeah you're absolutely right about Jeezy. The new album has it's highlights as I said before, 3Am, I Luv It and Bury Me A G are all great, but I don't like the fact it's more or less similar to his debut in a lot of ways.
The Clipse album is probably going to divide people a lot, myself I love it, but the production might irritate some people.
This year I'm really looking forward to Common's new album, Finding Forever. Be is one of my favourite hip-hop records from the 00's. The first single is very promising too. That's why Common is my pick for 2007.
Lupe's new album The Cool has a lot to live up to, I just hope he can live up to the expectations.
Lil' Wayne's Tha Carter III is going to have some entertaining moments, and Ghostface & Mf Doom (Swift & Changeable) can be something superb.
Saigon is finally going to put out his proper debut this year, The Greatest Story Never Told and Little Brother (The Getback) is always an interesting group. Devin The Dude's Waitin' To Inhale could be great too. Talib Kweli's new one is a bit of a question mark for me to be honest.
The brand new albums from the hip-hop greats Raekwon & Rakim will be very interesting, I just hope these guys can keep up the game.
Kanye's Graduation is going to have a hard time trying to better his first two albums, but it's definitely a one to wait for in 2007.

Detox will never live upto the hype, its impossible with all the push backs, the big stars shouting it out constantly it will never live upto the hype.
It will be good though don't get me wrong
As for J.R Pt 4 its nice but i rate number 2 his best effort easily.

Anyone notice the extreme drought of hip hop that is 07'. Not one noteworthy album is out yet even rock has already got a few 'decent' (If you like that type of music) stuff out.
But last year my favourite album has to be Clipse, Hell Hath No Fury. Lyrically they are crazy and I think pharrell did a really good job with the beats especially against recent work. I don't usually buy actual cd's but I decided to purchase their one after the poor album sales. Trill and keys open doors are out of this world too.

Rite now i'm not sure if I'm bumping the retail or advance but regardless its very nice man. I really do like the guy and the more I listen to this album it grows badly.. will report back with a proper review
Consequence's new album Don't Quit Your Day Job leaked, it's pretty good. Well worth a listen
Greatest Hip-Hop Group of all time
1. Run-DMC
2. NWA
3. Public Enemy
4. Outkast
5. Wu-Tang Clan
6. A Tribe Called Quest
7. EPMD
8. Salt 'N Pepa
9. Fugees
10. UGK
Came across this list on MTV, this list will likely cause some debate. I'm suprised Bone Thugs or the Beastie Boys weren't added to the list.
Run DMC are far too high. A safe and respecable choice but they're nowhere near the top. It's a bit ridiculous that The Fugees, Salt N' Pepa, and EPMD, as important as they are to hip hop, made it on to the list ahead of Gang Starr and The Roots.

The Fugees are Top 5 atleast.... But when the number #1 group of all time isn't even on the list its just typically MTV showing there vast knowledge of hip hop once again, surprised they didn't put G-Unit up there.

Roots IMO, but I wouldn't argue if it was Gang Starr up there.

New World Order consists of Lowkey (Poisonous Poets) and Logic (Poverty Driven Children). Sorry if you are a Hip Hop fan and don't appreciate what they're trying to do then you're just ignorant or stupid.
UK Hip Hop is making moves, but this type of thing is on a whole different level.

The greatest lyricist of all time!
You all should start listening to Papoose. I've got most his mixtapes and seriously the dude is impressing with his style. Check him out.

1st single is called "Straight To The Bank"
Yep thats the one straight to the bank.....also he put out another track called fully loaded clip, sounded average to me.
I dont think Curtis is going to beat Get Rich Or Die Tryin, sales wise or quality wise.

To be honest haven't listen to alot of hip hop for awhile. Waiting on Commons album and a few others, there too much bullshit these days to shift through to find good music in hip hop.
I heard Common's album "Be" was given 5 mics according to the radio but didn't quite sell much. Haven't heard it myself though it was released in 2005. I'll check it out. Any one listened to this album?

Be was an amzing album, im not surprised it didn't sell alot it had little promotion and commons not really popular amoung the new wave of hip hop fans.
Infact im gonna listen to that album when I get home, haven't listened to it for awhile
Goo and Chi City were two amazing tracks

All terrible songs to be honest, pretty poor, especially considering he's trying to promote his upcoming album. By the sounds of things, it may exceed The Massacre's disaster.
On another note, DJ Jazzy Jeff's new album was released recently, The Return of the Magnificant. I've only heard a couple of songs, but it sounds very good so far. If anyone is interested, just check his MySpace for the songs.
Sure thing. Last i heard anything from jazzy jeff was way back when he was around Fresh Prince.

it annoys me that a lot of people on this site seem to think that 50 Cent, The Game etc. aren't doing Hip-Hop simply because they talk about money, cars etc. Fair enough if you don't like it and prefer to be 'preached' to during a rap song.

If you can honestly tell me 50 is doing hip hop and back it up then I will give you more credit in future.
50 is doing everything rite now, in the name of money, NOT Hip Hop
Nas give us " Hip Hop is Dead " because Hip Hop needed it
Jay-z Came through because Hip Hop wanted it and needed it
HIP HOP does not need another 50 cent album nor do we want.
However i have nothing against the Game

I wouldn't say that they're "not doing hip hop," just they're extremely shit at it.

Every time I hear 50 its like he has got some serious sand in his vagina. I mean like sandcastle amounts. Maybe it's just how the man sounds au naturel. Definitely going to take a look at the Jazzy Jeff thing.

50 Cent isn't really doing Hip Hop, that is the thing. He's doing Rap, and he's not doing it very well. He fell off so badly following the success of Get Rich Or Die Tryin'. These types of artists are the ones who feel an album is rated purely on record sales and chart positions as opposed to the actual quality of the music produced. The Massacre was basically a complete filler, with a mixture of Pop songs and Gangsta songs which fell flat on their arse. Game has been showing more emotion in his songs, plus his mixtapes over the last couple of years have been solid.
It isn't necessarily the fact these artists talk about cars, money, women, it is the manner in which they do this. Take Big L for an absolute perfect example, he constantly talked about "bitches, robbing and guns". However, he did this with incredible ability and creativity making every song completely different. This kept his music totally refreshing, and plus the fact he was unbeliveably gifted on the mic. Whereas 50 Cent in this instance, brings nothing really refreshing nor new to the table. This means his music is just becoming dull over time.
"Preaching" as you call it obviously doesn't define a good song, smart lyrics and a great flow do, as well as many other aspects. If you want to just take no notice of the lyrics, then listen to instrumentals instead constantly.

07 Rap, the amount and the quality has just been abysmal
Best thing so far Has been Prodigy's Return of The Mac. The delays though have also been just annoying, when is Raewkow going to drop?
Also Hip Hop "Bloggers" and "Journalists" have made the list of the top 25 albums of all time. Its supposed to be made by the most informed of the people on the internet available.
Jay-Z, The Blueprint
"A lot of people will argue that Reasonable Doubt is Jay's best. Reasonable Doubt was too derivative for my taste. But on The Blueprint Jay was at his most obnoxious, playful and Machiavellian i.e. his best. It's the sound of a man consciously putting the genre on his back and bum rushing the mountain top." - Angry Citizen
24) Black Star, Black Star
"I remember coppin' this, Aquemini, and Lenny Kravitz's 5 on the same day. Needless to say, I was jammin' for months. I miss those days." - Boo Goo Doo Boom
23) Common Sense, Resurrection
Common just overwhelms the listener with his wordplay. The production is understated and lets him shine." - Wendell
22) Outkast, ATLiens
"No album before or since has had such an initial impact on me. I literally remember walking to the record store the day this came out. I had plans to go out that night and wanted to get home so I could quickly listen before my ride got there. When my ride came, I told him I was staying home and I sat there and listened to this album straight thru, over and over, until sometime the next morning. Since then, I’ve only grown more fond of it. A complete package in terms of an overall feel, fantastic lyricism and stellar production that is unrivaled." - Kwis
21) Notorious B.I.G., Life After Death
"...He would create what is widely regarded as hip-hop’s first blockbuster album." - Fresh Cherries from Yakima
20) De La Soul, Three Feet High and Rising
"Changed the game. Period." - Straight Bangin'
19) Run-DMC, Raising Hell
"More lyrical and musical than most rock albums of the same era." - Nerd Cake
18) The Fugees, The Score
"The samples and rhymes are so smooth and unabrasive, and the drum loops are strong, but not so hard-hitting that your ears start hurting after extended listening. The Score represents, to me, the perfect musical collection: interesting, challenging, and moving, but at the same time, poppy, catchy, and accessible." - Jamie Radford
17) Snoop Doggy Dogg, Doggystyle
"The greatest party gangsta album ever. The best Dr. Dre beats ever." - Zilla
16) Boogie Down Productions, Criminal Minded
"The Beatles have never sounded this good." - Unkut
15) Jay-Z, Reasonable Doubt
"Jay copied from the best to come up with this one. " - Start Snitching
14) Ghostface Killah, Supreme Clientele
"Who knows what the fuck Ghost is saying but damn does that shit sound fly." - Searching for my Swagger
13) N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton
"The effects of this record still leave me confused as to what the net effect of N.W.A. was on rap." - SS
12) GZA, Liquid Swords
"always the most intellectual member in the legendary wu, genius lives up to his moniker over this dark, brooding collection of rza’s coldest beats." - Fresh Cherries from Yakima
11) Outkast, Aquemini
"Besides the pop hits, the more artistic side of this album took a while to grow on me. But now I wonder what the fuck was wrong with me." - Woodsonian Institute
10) Mobb Deep, The Infamous
"Prodigy's lyrical performance on this pushes it above and beyond. With their first two albums The Mobb helped usher in the street thug era as much as BIG and Jay did." - The Assimilated Negro
9) Eric B. & Rakim, Paid in Full
"Party records. MC records. Fast rapping. Slow rapping. Perfect for the car, the stage, a mix show. Rakim never wastes one bar and the beats fit him like a glove while sampling the best parts of the best soul records ever (Barry White, Lynn Collins, James Brown, Kool and The Gang, Syl Johnson, etc.)" - Zilla
8) A Tribe Called Quest, The Low End Theory
"...this record feels more like a whole than almost anything else I've ever heard. Every song is perfect, from the ridiculous stripped down and spare production to the massive talents shown by both MCs." - Better Than Butt Sex
7) A Tribe Called Quest, Midnight Marauders
"Looks like we've found the greatest hip-hop group of all time." - Woodsonian
"This album deserves a coronation ceremony as the greatest hip hop album of all time." - The Assimilated Negro
6) Public Enemy, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
"Easily one of the top five most important records in hip hop history, with a mid-album trifecta of monumental importance: 'She Watch Channel Zero,' 'Night of the Living Baseheads,' and the chilling 'Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos.'” - Flood Watch Music
5) Dr. Dre, The Chronic
"This album defines a generation." - Dallas Penn
4) Raekwon, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...
"The epitome of early 90's east coast hip hop." - SfmS
3) Notorious B.I.G., Ready to Die
"So many choice cuts and Biggie rips through verses with such an amazingly captivating style: this album’s charms are impossible to resist." - From Da Bricks
2) Wu-Tang Clan, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
"A group of nerds from Staten Island mixed kung-fu, obscure mythology, gully talk and a cult religion to change rap forever." - SS
"Hip-hop’s version of Sgt. Pepper." - Passion of the Weiss
1) Nas, Illmatic
"Whenever some hippie music rag puts together a Top 100 albums of all time list it always includes Kind Of Blue at the expense of every other Jazz album ever released. When hip-hop reaches that level of recognition, Illmatic will be the album to make the list. And by the way, Nas won." - Angry Citizen
I find making Top 10 Albums etc too tiresome and stressful to state my own, but I would like to know you lots ones, I also have to admit though i'm only 18 and a lot of these albums have become dated by my standards and are hard to appreciate/listen too, so I couldn't give a fair account anyways.
Back to the present, it seems like the industry is gearing up for the return of 50 Cent.
For me 50's Amusement park is horrendous even by his own standards, Straight to the bank and fully loaded clip I did like though which is quite weird since I haven't liked anything 50 did since he debut Lp.
So basically this year Ive been listening to last years Clipse Album a lot.
Thats 07 hip hop for me.
I don't see Pac on that list..
