Puyol has been covering for Oleguer far too long now.
Defence has never been a priority at Barca for reasons unknown.
Cant understand that during the summer he didnt look at a defender.
Maybe during the winter break he might take a look at the league position and try to sign a good quality defender. Remember when Davids joined ? wat a difference he made to the midfield. So a signing could make a difference.
what do you Barca fans think? Are they on top form or not? i know drawing at the weekend was bad.. but hey thats Deportivo, they are'nt bad at all.. so, do you think the mighty Barca will improve when they play Pao tonight? btw, any news on whether eto'o will start or is it going to be Larsson? Ive heard something like that
Eto'o im afraid Nikos:) I should imagine that he will rest Eto'o once Barca have qualified. And to answer your question mate, no, Barca are not in top form at the moment. Would'nt be suprised if Messi came on tonight as well.
any news on whether eto'o will start or is it going to be Larsson?
They both started.
Would'nt be suprised if Messi came on tonight as well.
He did.
I swear on everything thats holy and good that if Rijkaard EVER starts Oleguer instead of Marquez for reasons other than to rest either he or Puyol i will lose all respect for him as a coach. After tongith's performance by Marquez not to mention the whole of last season he would be a fucking fool not to partner both Marquez and Puyol in every game. It would not only be wrong, it would be a travesty and a crime!
Rafa Marquez is definitely one of the best defenders in the world.
I will not comment on Eto'o's performance tonight because words are not enough to express my disappointment and anger. Suffice to say that he is nowhere near the level of someone like Henry and that is not right. We deserve better.

I saw the highlights and Eto'o skinned the keeper but he took to many touches for the Panathinaikos defenders to regroup and Eto'o under more pressure and didn't even hit the target.
aaah!!! why didnt barca score !!
0-0 is not bad at all.. im actually happy with this result.. im speaking for PAO.. i have to say we were lucky eto'o didnt score with that chance.. very lucky.. camp nou though, we would need more luck.. but with udinese drawing bremen.. we still have a good chance to qualify.. :)
poor game last night, xavi was no where to be seen. Dinho was quite, Eto'o SHOULD of scored. Good to see us keep a clean sheet though, hopefully stick to the puyol marquez partnership

I don't like the way barca is playing lately, and in my opinion is due to the asian tour this summer, the players are out of fit.
Anyway it makes me think that the team just can improve and i'm sure that we'll be plenty of strenght from January on, when la liga and the Champions become decisive.
C'mon Barca!
when la liga and the Champions become decisive.
I hope they wake up before that happenes.
I'll be a happy cule if Rijkaard keeps using the Puyol/Marquez combo.
Oh my did you see the game last night!?!?! Dinho was at his best again, the whole team had a great second half. Hopefully wednesday will be even better
Yeah, i watched the game last night. Ronnie was brill in 2nd half.
Couldnt believe Messi was booked for diving when it was a clear penalty. Messi is going to be a class player, he outshone Ronaldinho in places last nite. Wednesday night, Barca v Malaga. Live on sky sports...yahoo.
Can any1 get a clip of the run Dinho did last night, where he almost scored that was awesome shame he didnt score.
Anyone watch Madrid's defeat last night? I heard once that some poll results indicated that Barcelona fans are happier when Madrid loses than when we win. Aint that the truth!
did rijkaard use the oleguer defence formation again ?
Think Barcelona can retain their trophy?
I guess it would be Valencia's or Real Madrid's turn this season
Valencia are looking like the side which went to two consecutive Champions League finals under Benitez, and they pose a huge threat to both Real and Barca this season.
If im not mistaken, i heard that Deco and Belleti is injured and will miss the visit of Panathinaikos for CL matchday 4. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks
Deco out for 3 wks, Belliti out for 6 wks.
Barca will have to improve if they want to retain their trophy.
Madrid, Valencia and even Getafe are looking strong.

Getafe- you're having a laugh. They won't sustain it.

Although that it is ridiculous, because it means most Barca fans want both Barca and Real to go down rather than finish top two, I actually agree to that somewhat.
I said looking strong, not that they would win it. Getafe are becoming the Wigan of La Liga.

Barca just can improve as by now they've been playing in a very low mood, so it makes me feel optimistic just because playing the worst they can we're just two points down from Madrid... and have more points (can remember how many) than Valencia.
IMO Valencia is the team to fight with, Madrid is just depending on the inspiration of Ronaldo and playing a very poor football but surely will be on top beacuse of individualities but the lack of teamwork and discipline will be a wall for them...
We are 2 points behind Valencia and Madrid. We would have beaten Valencia is it wasn't for damn Valdes and his mistake, his now moaning in the spanish press about fans whistling him, what does he expect he acts like a "chulo" (show-off) Anyway hopefully tomorrow will see a great display from R.E.M, the whole 90 mins this time.
As soon as I'm aware of Deco gone for 3 weeks, and Belletti out for 6, I think of a healthy Leo Messi.
I was thinking of Gabri and Damia, and how good for us it would be if they recover soon. We need them now more than ever...or we are doomed to have Oleguer in that position for a month...oh dear!
6 hours until GolTV shows the match here.
Is Gio injured? Maybe he'll have a look tonight.
Barca won 2-0. Ronaldinho dived for the penalty tho they need something special to beat the Malaga keeper.
Great goal from Larsson, lobbed the keeper.
I dunno if he dived but it sure wasnt a penalty, o well larsson goal made up for it.
It wasn't a penalty, but if it wasn't given then it's unlikely Malaga would've buckled and give the game to Barca. The wrong decision swung the match in Barca's favour, when they clearly deserved the win, so it made the result fair.
Anyone watch the Depor - Madrid game..? I couldnt watch the barca one so i had to settle for that. And to top it all i was watching it with three merenge scummy bastards! Yes!

Ronaldinho dived to get the penalty? I think he does that too often.. he's done it twice in the CL. He exaggerates when he is in the box, he will fall down quickly to get a penalty. I think he does that intentionally. I dont know, maybe im wrong, but thats what i see from him. Because he knows he is one of the best players in the planet, and ofcourse referees will take his side when it comes to fouls, etc.. Something like that. Anyway, i cant be so sure. Well done Barca, i saw Larsson's goal, terrific lob.
How did that ball get through to Larsson?
Honestly.

I loved Larsson lob, it was class! He's top.
Altought the penalty was unfair what it was really unfair was that Barca didn't scored until minute 80'. They're getting on fit little by little and aproaching to the intense way of play they used to develop last season. Can't remember shoots on goal but it's a bout 25 shoots on goal for Barca and 3 for Malaga... The best Malaga player was Arnau, his goalkeeper.
Consecutive years with a Chelsea draw would go over swimmingly with me. But no doubt everyone wants to see Juve/Chelsea.

The one which qualified last season ;)
Barça Vs Real Sociedad tonight, no kovacevic, lucky for us! But I'm sure Nihat will cause a few problems. I'd like to see Messi start his class.
If we secure this win we will be on top...i think.
depends how getafe and osasuna get on. But at least we will be above Real Madrid if we win. They were poor last night if they play like that in 3 weeks time all us Barça fans will have a great night. VISCA BARÇA
Things are finally looking better for you guys :)
Well well well 5-0. Played well, dinho got 2, van bommel, larsson and PUYOL! Sociedad caused very little problems. Dinho, Xavi and eto'o all got substitued, gonna be fresh for the greeks.
Glad to see that larsson scored again.
wow ... almost every match ronaldinho scores 2 goals
I'm proud of our team. Bommel has got to be the best signing we've made this season. And he came for free! I was really glad him, Puyol and Larsson got goals. They deserved and needed them. Though i still get sick to me stomach when i see Oleguer...

Crap! missed the game:(
Too busy beatin ma brother at pes5;)
I take it Barca were all over Sociedad then ? Good to see Puyol actually scoring for once, aint seen that in ages, anybody got any clips from the game ?
I wish. Ronaldinho's first goal is worth viewing. The rest were good but not great. Great performances by Silvinho, with two assists, and Bommel. Iniesta is such a great player. I'm so glad weve got such a talented guy in the bench. Should be playing for the spanish squad in a few years i hope.
Looks like Barca are getting back to the form that they were showing before Christmas last season. Free flowing attacking football, and more importantly, goals to finish teams off.
Ronaldinho's first goal is worth viewing. The rest were good but not great.
You don't think Van Bommel's goal was great? That is difficult to do, and to place it right in the corner is even harder.
Though i still get sick to me stomach when i see Oleguer...
Well considering Belletti, Gabri, and Damia were injured, and Oleguer is probably the best man for the job. He is a competent defender, just makes the odd error, and at right back that won't be shown up as much.
Ahh, youre right about Oleguer i suppose although i still think he aint solid enough for a team of our calibre. Bommel's goal was good its true but its one of his specialties (jump shot, he does it a lot if you have noticed) so i didnt pay it that much attention. It was lovely and well deserved. He should be in the starting eleven...somehow.
He should be in the starting eleven...somehow.
That last word summed it up. It's very difficult to see where he will play when Deco recovers, however with Xavi protectin the back four and not conceding, that could be a possibility, however I'd still rather him play further forward and a player who actually is a recognised defensive midfileder play there. Preferably Edmilson, and have Marquez playing at the back with Puyol.
Barca are starting to look like champions again. It makes a difference when Xavi plays in the middle and can move offensive rather than defensive. All played really well, but i was so pleased for Puyol to score. Have to wait another 3 yrs for another from him now.

Here we are again!
What a great performance by Ronnie... he's on fit and he's unstopable, it's a pleasure watching him playing.
Mention apart for Van Bommel, he's showing everybody the kind of player he's, omnipresent in the field, defending, passing, attacking, scoring... as Muadib has said he's the best signing of the season and for free... great.
Really happy with Puyol and Larsson goals, especially the first one! Great header by the captain!
Iniesta also played at the highest level, personally i adore him, he's a special player. All the team deserves a special mention for the great match played yesterday.
It was funny to see Ronnie, Eto'o, Messi, Xavi and Gio sitting all together on the bench on the last twenty minutes, all of them joking and having a good time.
C'mon BARCA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought yesterday would have been the perfect opportunity for Messi to play some part, I'm surprised he wasn't introduced.
Abit off-topic sorry but i was just wondering how much barca got silvinho for i seen him play b4 and he looks like a good defender and i remember him from his Arsenal days. Thanks.

He's doing a great job in Barcelona, two assists yesterday. He and Gio are doing right in the left side of teh defense.
"I thought yesterday would have been the perfect opportunity for Messi to play some part, I'm surprised he wasn't introduced."
He'll be on the line up next wednesday against Panathinaikos.

No one knows, really. He just showed up at the door one night, shivering and asking for a meal and place to sleep. Naturally, we gave him both.

If i'm not wrong he came for free, the same as Van Bommel and Ezquerro, as it was his last year in Celta when he came.
Just watched Barca v Panathanaikos, absolutely awesome.
Eto'o scored the perfect hattrick, header, left foot and a beautiful right foot top corner. Messi and Van Bommel completed the rought.
I only saw the first half but Barca were awesome, surely the best team in Europe when they are on form.
Can't wait for the highlights in a few minutes. Seems like that was a rather marvellous display of attacking football.
Eto'os last goal is unbelievable.
Well, i thought we were amazing but we are certainly beyond that now.
I'm not going to go into detail about this game or what i think about it. You have to see it to believe it.

Let's not forget about the real heroes. Iniesta made two or three amazing assists that even Deco would be envious about. Van Bommel had an awesome game scoring the fastest goal in the CL this year...i think. (Iniesta assist. I really love that guy). And what about Ronaldinho's last drible through their entire defense? That was really special. And Messi, oh my, this Messi really is a good player. I didnt rate him highly before but he really is relentless.

Seen the highlights last night, and christ Barca absolutely bum raped Panathanikos. Eto'o had a perfect hatrick, last goal was the best though. Messi...well what can i say but he is a friggin' wonderkid:ohmy: his work effort last night was amense. Iniesta also, great prospect. Van Bommel's goal was pretty sweet but i don't reckon it was the best in the CL yet, it's gotta be either Henry's first goal against Sparta or the guy who scored that 35yrd freekick for Porto the other night. I have a strong feeling Barca may well win it this year.:)

Not a great match yesterday but we're on it. Great new the return of Motta, he played a good match and also scored a great free kick. Deco also returned to the team. One of the worst matches played by Ronnie, but then Eto'o appeared and Giuly later. We're a great team!
I'm optimistic about the clasico... 2-4 will be the result... ;)
There is no way they are scoring twice, specially without Ronaldo. And if their team looks anything like they did today we could witness Madrid's worst defeat ever. And you know our guys are itching to slaughter the merenges. We are going to see a lot of yellow cards and a red one or two from the Madrid side i assure you. They will not be able to handle the incessant assault of Ronnie, Deco, Messi, Bommel, Giuly and Eto'o...i mean...what can i say, we are too classy a team at the moment even for them, which are very poor lately.

I agree Muad'Dib, anyway the derbies are always special altought this season the difference in the gameplay is sooooo big between our FCB and they... But remember last year when we visited Madrid the situation was similar, we're playing great football, they're playing very poor as usual lately but they played counter attack strategy and worked for them...
I've to admit that i'm pretty sure that we've a great advantatge and won't happen the same as last season, and i predict that the hero of the match will be Samuel Eto'o! Can imagine him scoring a hat trick in Madrid... ;)
I dont know about that. The stadium will come down hard on Eto'o. I reckon that Gaucho and Deco will be the ones to cause the most problems with their passes and dribbles. Although Deco may not start at all. The one player i think should start is Bommel because i have a feeling that guy will really hurt Real. He has been playing great football lately. It's as if Barca brings out the best in him . But lets be totally realistic. I'm not sure what the merengue line up is going to look like but if its anything similar to what it was last Sunday then there is no hope for them. There is no way that Pavon, Garcia, Diogo and Ramos can stop our people from scoring. NO WAY. And without Ronaldo they have very slim chances of doing so themselves. We are undoubtedly going to completely dominate the midfield and they can counter all they want but i just dont see them scoring unless Beckham nails a free kick or someone heads in a corner delivery. Otherwise this game is as good as won. I can guarantee this victory 100%. Unless, half of their injured people make a surprise last minute comeback...but that is very improbable.
There is one factor that could turn the tide and that is Robinho. But i reckon Puyol and Marquez can handle him. Rijkaard better use the Marquez and Puyol team up. He would be a fool not to.
Kluiverte
08-11-2005, 11:56
I'm sure about Marquez and Puyol will be the two centerbacks, and surely your beloved Oleguer will be on the right side of the defense... no mention...
IMO Marquez is doing a GREAT work for Barca, last sunday against Getafe he played brilliant, this man amazes me.
About your comments, you're right IMO, I'm sure FCB will score, don't know how many goals, but one is for sure, and i'd say that three goals is more than possible.
About Madrid, Helguera will be on the bench it's been confirmed, hope "el gordo" won't play then the match will be ours for sure.
There is an eerie silence surrounding Ronaldo...He might start or play in the second. I'm going to try and find out now. You are right about Oleguer but i really hope he uses Gabri in his place...
Marquez is la Ostia, no doubt.
I was reading about Deco just now and the man is fully recovered so he will be starting 100%. Edmilson might be the anchor man in this one or Marquez so i think we are looking at this kind of line-up....
--------------------------Valdes----------------------
Oleguer(:crymore:)---------Puyol--------Edmilson-----------Gio
------------------------Marquez-----------------------

Yes this should be the starting line up, do you imagine Rijkaard lining up Messi instead of Giuly? It could be a great surprise but being realistic i don't think it's going to happen...
Let me tell you that i prefer Oleguer over Gabri, anyway these two are probably the worst players in FCB...
Van Bommel seriously hurt his ankle today while training with the Dutch national squad, and will be out for about 8 weeks orso... :(
So sad for the guy, cause he finally made it back into the national selection and was finding good form at Barca :(
At least it makes Rijkaard's decision over whether Deco goes straight back into the team a hell of a lot easier.
He twisted his anckle but this 8 week thing hasnt been confirmed...at least not in their website. It doesnt matter because that kind of injury wont heal in two weeks. Shame about him missing this next game with the national squad but missing this year's first classico probably hurt him even more.
Real shame about Van Bommel, I hope he bounce's back from the injury quickly. I' like to see Motta, Xavi and Deco in the midfield for El Classico, what team would you guys play?
I would prefer to see Xavi in the middle of midfield. I think he's a terrific playmaker who sets up good attacks. Iniesta is another i like in that position. As for Marquez, i was a bit annoyed in the game at the w/end against Getafe when he turned his back in the box and the forward got his shot in but put it wide.Apart from that Marquez is quality. Barca look stronger and i fancy our chances against Madrid. Going to miss Bommel tho.
Bommel tore ligaments in his anckle so he is going to be away for a long time. I wonder who we're going to be signing in winter.
Kluiverte
10-11-2005, 08:06
It's confirmed that Van Bommel will be out of the team for eight weeks! What a shame...
As now Motta is ok, Iniesta is great, Edmilson can play as defensive midifielder and even Gabri can play in the midfield i don't think that any player is coming on winter.
It's supposed that Mark will return to team in the early 2006...
What do we think of Edmilson so far?
I dont think he's the man anymore. Too many mistakes this season.
I don't think anything of him, so that speaks enough for me.
But Barca are lacking any other decent back up defenders, or natural holding players. So even though he's been poor, he must be used.
And he's not a bad player, he was won the league championship like four or five times in a row or something.
Edmilson is a great anchorman but too slow to be in the back, imo. He is a great passer as well and a very skillful dribbler for a man his height. Also, he is a bit of a panzee if you know what i mean.
Barcelona have dropped their clearest hint yet that they want to sign Arsenal captain Thierry Henry.
Txiki Beguiristain has stated that the Frenchman's arrival would not affect Ronaldinho or Samuel Eto'o as the trio could play in the same team.
The Catalan club's technical secretary admitted that he is a firm admirer of the Gunners striker and explained that he would definitely strengthen the squad at Camp Nou.
"He is one of the players that would improve the squad here," Beguiristain told COM Radio.
"If he was to come then that would not mean that Ronaldinho or Eto'o would have to leave because they could all play together."
It is no secret that Henry is Barcelona's number one transfer target and the Catalan club are monitoring his contract talks with The Gunners.
The former Monaco and Juventus forward's contract does not expire at Arsenal until 2007, but the club are desperate to tie him down to a new, bumper deal.
Henry, though, has stonewalled on opening negotiations and has said that he will only talk about any new deal at the end of the current campaign.
Barca have also announced that they want Maxi Lopez to go out on loan in the winter transfer window and are studying offers from across Europe for the Argentinian target man.
Beguiristain believes that age is on Maxi's side and wants him to join a club where he will play regularly as his chances at Camp Nou are limited.
With Eto'o as the first choice striker at the club and Henrik Larsson on the bench, the former River Plate striker has only played 14 minutes this season and has now been told to study the offers that are coming in for him.
"We have received offers from Spain, England, France and Germany for Maxi and the club will take a decision soon on this," Beguiristain said.
"The fact that Larsson is a substitute, is fine for the player and for the club because of his age. But Maxi, who is 21, has to play every week.
"Therefore, we must find him a team that suits his demands and that the club would be happy to see him join."
Beguiristain then explained that despite not playing much this term, Santiago Ezquerro was still very much part of the club's plans and that he would definitely not be going anywhere in January.
The 28-year-old forward moved to Barca in the summer on a free transfer from Athletic Bilbao, but has only managed six appearances as a substitute this season.
"Ezquerro will not be transferred," the Barca director said. "We want him to stay and he wants to stay.
"We know the quality that he has and he proves how good he is whenever he can, but the breakthrough of (Leo) Messi has seen him have fewer chances. It has been the same for Larsson, Maxi and Ludovic Giuly however."

Sounds interesting, but the defence should be the priority.
I heard a rumour that Robben may be on his way.
"Barcelona have dropped their clearest hint yet that they want to sign Arsenal captain Thierry Henry... ...If he was to come then that would not mean that Ronaldinho or Eto'o would have to leave because they could all play together."
They say epileptics experience some kind of inexpressible ecstatic delirium in the critical moments before they black out, flop like a fish, and spew saliva. I was right there, then saw a glorious red and blue striped sun burning in the sky.
I was there, but I gathered myself up. I'll be ok.

It's a dream, Ronnie - Eto'o - Henry... But as Yossi says a good defender is a priority, i mean a tall and strong defender a la Terry's style forming couple with the one, Carles Puyol.
Hey! What are your toughts about "el clasico"?? I'm very very very confident on FCB, i'm quite sure about winning these bastards... ;)
Barcelona 13 - 0 Real Madrid
I'm kidding, of course.
Barcelona 11 - 1 Real Madrid. Final answer.
I'll settle for a comfortable 1 - 3.
I wouldnt say no to Henry but we need another good defender just to make sure that Oleguer doesnt get to play anymore or for a long time at least. Marquez should partner Puyol because they make a formidable defensive duo...i still dont understand why Rijkaard refuses to do so.
We need a player like Jaap Stam or even Nesta at the back.
We need a player like Jaap Stam or even Nesta at the back.
I'd like to see a young good prospect centre back come in, with alot of pace.
Latest from El mundo deportivo (barça daily paper) the starting line-up may well be Valdés; Oleguer, Puyol, Márquez, Gio; Motta; Xavi, Deco; Giuly, Eto'o y Ronaldinho. Maxi Lopez, Ezquerro and Belletti won't be in the squad.
I would of personally liked to have seen Belletti in the squad, as we all know Oleguer can look a little lost at right back sometimes, well at least when it comes to attacking.
And you know he is going to be shitting bricks in el Bernabeu. Roberto Carlos is going to ass rape him. I'm hoping we can score a couple of goals before they realize what hit them just to be on the safe side.
Got the feeling this might be a draw but with a couple of goals so 2-2 or 3-3.
I doubt it. I just dont see them drawing. If Madrid win itll be with a 2-1. If we win itll be the same score or 1-3. We will probably have most of the possesion and i think they are going to see a lot of cards...specially their young defenders. I'm pretty confident of a victory. If we score the first goal the merenge crowd will quite down as they always do. And if we are able to nail them once more then there will be no coming back for them. If they score first then we are going to have a hard time scoring because they are going to make a defensive wall which will be difficult to breach.

La Liga Preview: Real Madrid-Barcelona
There are many massive fixtures that take place the world over each season: Milan versus Inter, Boca Juniors against River Plate, Manchester United v Liverpool etc. However, for many football aficionados, there is no bigger game on the planet than Real Madrid versus Barcelona and on Saturday evening, these two giants of Spanish football will do battle at Real’s historic Santiago Bernabéu stadium in a game that means so much more than just three points.
BACKGROUND
In a week that saw a Spanish drought finally ending with days of pouring rain, snow on high ground and very cold temperatures, images in the media of Brazilians taking a soaking and Spaniards running about in hats and gloves abound. For both Real Madrid and Barcelona it has been an extremely difficult period to prepare both mentally and physically for the biggest game of their season so far.
While the players have been getting to grips with the weather, the media build-up for the game has been intense. Two stories in particular have hogged the daily television newscasts and, indeed, the sporting press. The first concerned the ‘will he play, won’t he play’ status of Real Madrid’s key attacker, Ronaldo. At the beginning of the week it was suggested that Wanderli Luxemburgo was taking a cautious stance stating that his compatriot would not be risked for this game should his condition be less than 100percent. However, pictures of the player in full training seemed to prove to everybody else that Ronaldo would indeed play at least some part in Saturday’s match and as the week has progressed, it now appears he will start against his former employers.
The other story concerns one Samuel Eto’o. Footage of the Cameroon international re-emerged this week in which his celebrations of Barcelona’s title win last season did little to impress the club’s capital rivals. Hands raised aloft, Eto’o can be clearly seen walking towards the ecstatic Catalan fans mouthing a popular, if rather vulgar, chant that states, in cleaner terms, "Madrid, salute the champions."
The fact that Eto’o had such intent on his face and that he repeated the chant over and over again so riled the Real Madrid support that his appearance in the Bernabèu on Saturday, it has been suggested, will draw a similar response from the fans to that which Luis Figo received at the Nou Camp several seasons ago. Then, Figo, a former Barcelona player, took to the field in the all white of Real Madrid to deafening screams, jeers and even the head of a pig.
Stirring up emotions even further, Real Madrid’s Ivan Helguera noted at a midweek press conference, "Of course he (Eto’o) is going to be booed and whistled from start to finish on Saturday and not just because he is Samuel Eto’o, but because of his comments at the end of last season. If any other player had behaved in the same way they could expect a similar reaction on Saturday." Helguera insisted, though, that the abuse will remain verbal and that "there will be no dead pigs flying down from the stands onto the pitch here."
CURRENT FORM:
Real Madrid: It has been an extremely tricky period for los merengues, however, they have displayed strong character while chalking up successful results without their big named players. The football has been far from pretty, particularly in the recent 1-0 win over Real Zaragoza and the previous triumphs over Rosenborg and Real Betis. With the return of Ronaldo, Zidane et al to the front lines this week, however, home support will expect a stylish win over their Catalan rivals. Real are currently sitting in third position in the league standings with 21 points.
Barcelona: The Catalan giants are oozing confidence and class and are playing some scintillating football. If the truth were to be told by those connected with Real Madrid, this fixture is coming at a slightly worrying time. Barcelona’s fluid attacking style has sharply contrasted with the stuttering displays performed by the men from Madrid. A domestic four game winning spree has produced 13 goals, and with a 5-0 triumph over Panathinaikos in the Champions League sandwiched in-between, Barcelona are, on current form, arguably the best team in Europe at the moment. Frank Rijkaard’s side are second in the league with 22 points.
TEAM NEWS:
Real Madrid: A sense of relief all ‘round for Madridistas as it appears the big boys will be back to battle Barcelona. Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane should make their way into the starting XI along with Ivan Helguera and Sergio Ramos, although having all been several weeks out of action, it’s anyone’s guess how they will react to returning for such a huge clash. Julio Baptista is back to full fitness but may have to settle for a place on the bench while David Beckham has played down a back problem and has stated he will be fit to face Barcelona.
Barcelona: It had been suggested that Barça coach Frank Rijkaard was waiting to see whether Ronaldo would play before deciding on his defensive four. As it now appears the Brazilian hitman will start, expect Rijkaard to pull Rafael Marquez back into central defence to accompany Carles Puyol. Xabi Hernández would thus move in from the right to central midfield area with Thiago Motta sitting in the hole between defence and midfield. The usual suspects of Ronaldinho, Ludovic Giuly, and Samuel Eto’o will be the attacking force for the visitors.
WATCH OUT FOR:
Real Madrid: Who else but Ronaldo. Zidane, Beckham and Raúl will be at the centre of all things creative for the hosts, but when it comes to the fireworks, expect the Brazilian to explode into life following an injury layoff.
Barcelona: If Barcelona are to break Real hearts, you can guarantee that Ronaldinho will have had a massive part to play. A genius on the ball, the Barça playmaker is frighteningly fast, can pick out a teammate blindfolded and is a magician from set pieces.
PROBABLE STARTING XIs:
Real Madrid: Casillas, Salgado, Roberto Carlos, Sergio Ramos, Helguera, Beckham, Guti, Zidane, Raúl, Ronaldo, Robinho.
Barcelona: Valdés, Sylvinho, Oleguer, Márquez, Puyol, Motta, Xabi, Deco, Giuly, Ronaldinho, Eto’o.
PREDICTION:
As seems to be the case with most colossal confrontations, this game could either fail to live up to the hype and produce a drab scoreless draw, or it could deliver a classic battle between two huge rivals whose players will sweat blood out on the pitch. Goal.com prefers to believe in the latter scenario and says that this will be one of the most fiercely contested games to take place between these two teams in decades.
Real Madrid 3, Barcelona 3
It's half time, and it's amazing Barca are only 1-0 up. Playing Messi instead of Giuly was a masterstroke, and he is causing the dodgy Roberto Carlos no end of problems. If this continues, it will end up being a rout.
Just knew that Eto'o would score when playing his former club.
He always does. And when teams give players stick, it always backfires. Every time.
I can remeber when he was caught singing some rude songs shall we say about Real Madrid that was so funny.
Who was playing at home?¿?¿?¿? OMG Dinho just keeps getting better. Robinho who?¿? If we keep playing like this we could have a Double on our hands
We are Masters of Spain!
Blaugrana al vent,

The merenges that stood up and applauded Ronaldinho's second goal have my most sincere respect! Thats class.
If that was Barca's hardest game then i think the la liga is over. They dominated the game from the 1st min to the 90th. Ronaldinho took his 2 goals superbly. Messi caused Madrid all sorts of problems. I was very impressed with Barca, sheer class. Good to see the Madrid fans applaud Ronaldinho, at least they appreciate a brilliant player.
Yeah i thought it was great when they applauded Ronnie they just gave in and accepted there reign as Spains best is over.

Yeah i thought it was great when they applauded Ronnie they just gave in and accepted there reign as Spains best is over.
See now that's just not what you should say...
They did a credible deed and you go and repay them by saying "Yeah thanks for realising that you're shit and that we're better, yeah thanks!"
They weren't applauding Barca, they were applauding Ronaldinho himself.
Yeah i thought it was great when they applauded Ronnie they just gave in and accepted there reign as Spains best is over.
I dont know where you got this idea that they reigned over spanish football...We have always been the mastas. :)
They weren't applauding Barca, they were applauding Ronaldinho himself.
Thats true but i reckon they respect us more now because we took out their galacticos in their home. Ronaldinho didnt win this game by himself. He made the runs but you cannot forget that Messi and Eto'o did their part by positioning themselves in places where they would force the defenders to not be able to double-team Dinho and that Deco and Xavi were the ones that spotted him and gave him the through balls, if i remember correctly. Still, you're right, they were applauding him. Though the entire team was awesome, even Oleguer...

Right on, we all know who is most qualified to take some polish off Chelsea.
You got that right, buddy. :)
I'm going to resort to cannibalism if WE9:I does not show itself here soon. This February or March nonsense is for the birds - there will be total carnage if I end up having to wait that long.
I'm sick for the game, I always have a half dozen or so sides in various master leagues, and one will definitely be a Barca acting out this Henry rumor.

I can see Barca beating Chelsea in the Champions League, i can image the Mourinho's face after being beated by our mighty team. That's my hope this season. It's really hard to win the Champions League but i see FCB ready to do that. I hope so...
I would love us to do the double(champions and la liga), and if we can keep playing well then theres a good chance we can do it.
Barcelona have a good chance of winning the double since i cany really see Osasuna keeping up there pace and Real Madrid will be easy to beat again so we should be able to win the league.

6 points is not enough imo, even when your in double figures all it takes is a couple of bad games and you could find yourself in 2nd place. I don't think this will happen to Barca' but it was just an example.
I think if we beat Villareal on sunday then i see no reason why we cant go on and win the la liga again. Tough game and they are currently 3rd i think. Last season Forlan scored 5 in 2 games against us. Have you noticed that Barca have featured live on sky every game this season ?

Hei Muad'Dib, and how about Messi? He played brilliant against Madrid and scored a great goal against Racing also, he's becoming a great player and he's only eighteen and with a great "blaugrana" future ;)
If Messi keeps developing how he is and we keep players like Ronaldinho, Eto', Deco and Xavi he can learn alot from them and maybe if Titi gets fed up with life in London and joins Barça. Well some1 else Messi can get some tips off.
My blaugrana brothas, i had my doubts about Messi but this kid is one classy playmaker. I mean, you look at the guy and think 'he aint much' but he has this way of getting past defenders that still amazes me, and is a really good shot and great passer. We have a very solid team now. I just cant help but smile knowing that we have two quality young talents like Iniesta and Messi on the bench ready to hop in and take over Xavi's or Deco's role if anything goes wrong or we needed to rest them. And they are both products of our youth system!
Did anyone watch tonights charity friendly? It finished 2-1. A brilliant lob by Deco and a great finish by Maxi from a Giuly cross. Needless to say we had countless chances on goal, mainly by Larsson and Ezquerro who could not convert.
Yeah i watched it, if Barca not try to walk the ball in the net they would have had a hatfull. Deco and Maxi's goals were class. Poor Ezquerro , he should have had a few himself. Tried too hard. Good to see the youngsters have a run as well. Messi has a big big future ahead of him. Just a little bit more composure and he will score more goals. I really look forward to watchin Barca now.

Right, but he's also an offer from Aston Villa i think...
Spanish press say West Ham and Mallorca are also intrested in Maxi. I personally would like him to stay I think he brings something different to the attack. But his still young and needs first team football. I just hope Larsson stays fit, because there will be a spell when Eto'o goes and plays in the African Nations Cup.
I wouldn't mind if he went on loan to anybody but i wouldn't like to get rid of him since he is quite young and a good prospect.
Unwelcome news about Xavi:
MADRID, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Barcelona and Spain midfielder Xavi will be out of action for around six months after knee surgery that could threaten his participation in next year's World Cup finals.
The 25-year-old tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during training, the Primera Liga club said on Friday.
Barcelona's medical services confirmed that he would have to undergo surgery to repair the damage.
Xavi is a key member of Frank Rijkaard's Barcelona squad and a fixture in Luis Aragones's Spain side. The World Cup finals in Germany start on June 9.

I'm gutted about the Xaviniho injury. I just hope we can keep preforming well without him. Iniesta is good but his no Xavi.
There seems to be very few Barca players who have not torn their knee ligaments. It's getting ridiculous now.
Im gutted about Xavi. He's my second fav player behind Ronaldinho. Iniesta is a good replacement. No Bommel,no Xavi and january we will be without Eto'o. Hope we get someone in the jan transfer window. Losing so many key players to this sort of injury is a downer.
First Bommel and now this...:realmad: We need some kind of back up now. I have full confidence in Iniesta but we still need someone to replace him in case anything else happens. I wonder who we will sign...
Son of a bitch. What shit news this is.
Love to see De Lapena back again. Little Budda. Probably use Marquez or Iniesta...please not Edmilson.
Could possibly use Messi in midfield, could be interesting.
Motta and Gabri have played in those positions before.

What a fucking bad new, when i noticed that i get very upset. After thinking of it, Iniesta is the first option imo, then Van Bommel can do things right there (i think he'll on the team on two months), Motta and Gabri as last option.
The fact is that Xavi is a key player on Barça and will be difficult to replace him.
I really don't think that any player will como on January, Van Bommel and Iniesta will do the job.
We rise victorios again! Who needs Xavi when we have the likes of Deco, Messi and Ronaldinho in midfield? Granted both goals were deflections but as always we totally dominated the game. Alora we go to Udinese to kick some italian culo!
i think there's lots of replacements for xavi , there's motta , bommel , iniesta
Bommel is injured and you can count Motta out. He went down last night and it looked serious.
oh yeah...just remembered...so is edmilson fit ? if he is then marquez should be in that position
¡¡¡ VISÇA el BARÇA !!!
Yea ok...
Here is the list of the players that traveled to Udine:
Valdés, Jorquera, Gabri, Iniesta, Edmilson, Sylvinho, Oleguer, Gio, Puyol, Deco, Damià, Maxi, Larsson, Belletti, Messi, Giuly, Ezquerro, Márquez.
And i read that Iaquinta may not play for what reasons i know not. Because of a minor injury probably. I dont like easy wins but without him they have very slim chances of doing any damage.
i think this game would really be hard for barca, cuz there's no ronaldinho or eto'o or xavi , and we know that udinese have many class players even without iaquinta, like di natale , di michele and i forgot the central midfielders but they are top. it's gonna be pretty much a hard fight... this match should be interesting to watch

I'm prettyy sure barca will still win this match. They have quality players in their first team that could still cause Udinese problems. The likes of Guily, Messi, Puyol, Deco, Larsson... the list goes on, it's near enough a full squad so they will still win i reckon.
Obviously not going to be our best team, but will be interesting to see if we have good back up for the big names, unlike Real Madrid as we saw last night.
This is it. The real test we have been waiting for. Its the chance to prove that this is a team, not just Ronaldinho's men. I know our players are going to want to go into the pitch and prove that it wasnt Dinho and Eto'o alone that won us the Liga and got us this far.
I hope Iaquinta plays because victory will be far sweeter if he does.
Good performance again from Barca. Typical Italians, 10 players behind the ball. They got what they deserved Udinese, why oh why do teams think they are so clever to try and play defensive against Barca? Barca are the best team in the world to unlock tight defensive teams.

Nice one Barca!, 4 minutes to go and Udinese where through, I kinda wanted Werder Bremen to qualify.
We didnt even need to use Messi.
Didnt need to break a swet.
i think ezquerro performance could cement him a first team place i never doubt anyone who's from athletic bilbao , basque players are fucking good

We've passed the test. I'm so happy with the team, we've winned Udinese but apart from that we've played so good! The subs maintain the high level of the "oficial" line up, it's really great and we've showed to the whole Europe that we're a REAL TEAM.
Players that i've liked most: Edmilson is getting his higher level, Ezquerro is really a good player and he has showed it to everyone, Deco has been the star today, Gabri has been at a high level too, i'm really happy with our team, we can do great things.
Apart from that... what team do you prefer on the next round? I want Chelsea, and want to see the fucking Mourinho's face when being beated by us. What do you think?

He had an "OK" game in my opinion his still not gonna to start ahead of Messi, Dinho or Eto'o thats for sure.
Must say I have never seen him play before but that Iaquinta was Impressive. In a better team he could do alot better.
And your statement about the basque players, I dunno if you've seen Bilbao play this season but its far from "fucking good"

He's a great player to have it available in the bench i'll say again that we've a great team.
I agree with you about Iaquinta, i like the way he plays. He was very near to come to Barca last december after Larsson injurie last season.

im not saying bilbao is really really good , but they are not bad either , they're lacking in striking power , players like yeste , ramos , ezquerro and there's a lot more in bilbao's squad that are really good , they're just havin a bad season and they can't just purchase any player as they are only allowed to have basque players in their team. and i agree with you abt iaquinta , he deserves to be in the italy squad

It always have been a lot of good basque players, remember Arteta, Xavi Alonso, Etxeberria, Yeste, Ezquerro and old Barca players as Bakero or Beguiristain.
Remember that Athletic de Bilbao is one of the three teams (Barca and Madrid are the others) that have never been in second divison.
Barca's great results and dominant performances in the group stages have made the one of the teams to be avoided in the next round.
Its not just been the big name stars who've impressed either, with the whole squad chipping in and demonstrating the depth at Rijkaard's disposal. The following are some of the stats related to the group stages.
-Rijkaard has used a total of 21 players in the six games.
- Barca finished the first stage unbeaten, with five wins and a draw. Together with Lyon and Arsenal they took most points -16.
- Ronaldinho is the second leading goal scorer with 5, just one behind Andrei Shevtxenko. The Brazilian has only needed 10 shots on target for his 5 goals, whilst the AC Milan striker has had 17 efforts on target.
- Barca and AC Milan are the two teams with most shots on target 48 each, or an average of 8 per game.
- In terms of possession, Barca and Ajax have the highest average -57% a fair reflection of both teams' passing games.
- With 17 goals , Barca are three way ahead in the goal scoring table, with Lyon second on 14.
- Only Villarreal have conceded fewer goals just the one, whilst Barca, Lille and Arsenal have let in two each.
- Barca are also the clearest group winners, ending up 9 points ahead of second placed Werder Bremen, whilst Lyon and Inter both finished 6 points in front of Real Madrid and Rangers respectively.
Granted, we were in a relatively easy group but, what can i say, these are good days for us. May they last for a long time and lets enjoy it while they do.
Also, Rijkaard is healthy again after a week and half of bronchial infection. Here is a photo showing the moment Ronaldinho greets his sensei.

Can you feel the love? Thats what this team is made of at present. Much love for the game and each other.

pretty queer, but as we've already determined, they would be happy to hear it
What's the team news for tonight's encounter with Sevilla?
I can't see Sevilla causing too many problems.
Well Dinho, Eto'o and Messi starting the attack. Midfield of Iniesta, Gabri and Edmilson. Defense Puyol Oleguer in the centre, Sylvinho left and Belletti right. Also there was a great interview with Eto'o the other day, someone said he was jealous of Dinho. Eto'o- "Jealous of what? I play for the best team in the world, I score nearly every sunday, and I get paid a alot of money to do what I love"
His such a legend, must admit I was dubious about his finishing at the start of the season, he must of just been rusty.;)
yeah , i didn't know what is eto'o complainin about , he didnt get the prize , sucks on it mate , try again next year. i think its unnecessary for him to complain

I guess he just has high expectations. And if he just keeps playing how he is next year he will be in the top 3 at least, lets face it unless Dinho retires there is no one better.
eto'o is a brilliant player but i didn't think he deserved to be in the 3 man shortlist for world player of year
i mean, i would rate gerrard, henry, shevchenko and adriano above him
id rather take out sheva and put eto'o or kaka in
Ok back to Barça guys, predictions for tonights game? I'm going to say 2-0 Barça Eto'o and Messi.
3-1 Barca. Messi and Eto'o with 2 goals. If he plays i reckon Saviola will score and cause Barca some problems.
4-0 barca
dinho 1
eto'o 1
larsson 1
2-1. Wasn't our best of games, but a wins a win. Nice goal by Dinho. Can't wait to see Deco back in the team we missed him today.
Think we missed Xavi a lot as well. Dug out the result tho.
We came back from a 0-1. I never doubted that we would for one moment. Ronaldinho made some glorious passes tonight and bringing Larsson in for Messi was a good idea as he made some quality passes himself one of which culminated in Dinho's goal. This team is nowhere near as good without our midfield kings, Xavi and Deco. What a pair those two are . Hopefully, all will be well after the holidays when Bommel's injury has fully healed. There is indeed no need for us to sign or bring in on loan anyone in January.
Have we got the quality up front when Eto'o is away for the Africans nations cup ? Miss him for a few games wont we.
We will. We've got Larsson, Ezquerro, Ronaldinho, Giuly and Messi. Dinho and Larsson can play as CFs so theyll have to do until the cameroonian comes back because Maxi is going somewhere on loan. Larsson will start and play in every game so i wont lose any sleep with Eto'o gone. ;)

I've liked a lot Larsson, he's class and will do things right when Eto'o trip to Africa.
Great Dinho tonight... as always do.
