Chelsea were reported to have made inquiries about Inter Milan's 22-year-old Brazilian star.

Rinaldi told BBC Sport from Rio de Janeiro: "I can assure you that Chelsea have had no dealings whatsoever with either me or Adriano.

"Parma and Real Madrid are interested but there's nothing new there. Their interest has been known for some time."

Adriano has scored 14 goals in 20 Serie A appearances this season.

And Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had claimed that he was in Milan talking to Adriano on the day he is alleged to have held a clandestine meeting with Arsenal defender Ashley Cole.

Mourinho said he was "just practising my Portuguese with him because I don't need strikers".

Rinaldi told BBC Sport: "I have to say that nobody from Chelsea or any other London club has contacted me.

"If they want to, that's fine. I can tell them what the situation is.

"If Chelsea are interested then they must make an offer."

Inter are reported to have slapped a price tag in the region of £40m on the head of Adriano, who joined them just over a year ago from Parma.

Real Madrid view him as a natural replacement for compatriot Ronaldo.

But Rinaldi said: "I cannot give you a price that Inter would accept for Adriano. That's something that would have to be negotiated between the interested clubs."

Despite earlier reports it seems that chelsea aren't in for the big man

The press are unbelievable.

It's was blatantly obvious what Jose Mourinho said regarding Adriano/Ashley Cole was just a joke ("I couldn't have been tapping up Ashley Cole, as I was tapping up Adriano"), yet the red-top rags still use that to try and create serious speculation!

£40m though, that's a bargain.

in my opinion Adriano is overated at the moment but i am not going to deny his sheer skill as a football player...
£40M is not a bargain....i wouldnt pay more than that for him at all....
in my opinon no player should be worth £40M...the money nowadays is just plain ridiculous..money is ruining football...(unless your a Chelsea fan ;) )

I agree some people are slightly overrating Adriano but there is no denying that the lad is quality, his goals-per-game ratio this season would back that up. His record is especially impressive when you consider he has scored those goals in an underpeforming Inter side, without his goals they would probably be mid-table in Serie A.

He is quite similar to Henry in the fact that aswell as being a scorer of many goals, he is also a scorer of great goals.

Any club that bids for him will be looking at least a £60m price-tag, he may not be worth that much but Inter will be desperate to keep him.

As for money ruining the game, do you agree that £28m was too much for rooney? Adriano is a better player than him.

yes i totally agree that £29.8M was too much for Rooney by far but to be honest i am just glad we got our man at Old Trafford...the only reason we were forced to pay that much was for the lads future.
Adriano is a better player but im pretty certain Rooney will become a better player than him but only time will tell my friend....
but do you agree that money is slowly ruining todays football..??

I agree that Rooney probably justify his transfer fee in a few years.

Money definitely dominates today's game, and I can only see the situation getting worse, for instance, the Italian clubs that used to be able to splash out £20m+ on a player are now struggling financially. I can see Chelsea dominating Europe in a few years time, as other top sides may not be able to compete with them in the transfer market.

money is destroying todays game in my opinion....
i cant imagine the beautiful game in five-ten years...

The same thing was said when Francis became the first player to cost £1m.

Although the transfer record is almost 50 times what it was back then, footballs only got better.

If United didn't snatch him he would be at Newcastle by now. Ruining his career like Patrick Kluivert is doing right now.

i agree Kluivert has brutalised his career now by joining Newcastle....and the main reason that he joined Newcastle isnt there anymore :D

Was the reason because of Bobby Robson by any chance?

The fact that Kluivert is doing shite at Newcastle has nothing to do with the club, he is fucking lazy and living off past glories. If you had actually seen him play this season you would agree.

He is a fucking waste of time, that's why he will be released come the end of the season.

What? They must be having a laugh. He was part-owned by Parma previously, and was partnering Adrian Mutu successfully for a short while, but now they need to sell players, rather than think about buying one of the best players in the world. Maybe they'll ask for him on loan, with Inter still paying his wages

Didn't Inter sign him from Parma? I thought Parma were crippled with debt aswell.
