Cheers guys. Had to rush to get it done before the game, but just about managed to do it in time.
GOAL Update
Alizee Lyonnais 0-1 Barry
The visitors are soon into their stride, and break the deadlock just 6 minutes into the game.
Ronaldinho shifts the ball between both feet, and passes to Eto'o, who lays it off to Jesus Navas at an acute angle on the right side of the penalty area. The pacy Spaniard darts past the inexperienced Armand Traore and fires the ball into the roof of the net from a tight angle. A perfect start for the team aiming for a third place finish.
Preki 1-0 Rafa
Just as the doctor ordered, for Steve Nicol. Sol Campbell pumps a long ball upfield which Bonera makes the fatal error of allowing to bounce, and Adriano latches onto the ball and lofts it over a stranded Marcelo Grohe. It looks like an uphill struggle for the relegation threatened side from this point, with the defensive setup being breached early into the contest.
I would rep you if I was allowed.
Great stuff Scarface. I would rather read what you write on how the goals where scored then to vote for them. LOL
Just read back through a load of pages and enjoyed the reading about Nikos being a cheat, again.
I think it was Mat who started me wondering about his shifty-ness, not sure thought but either way, his team will be well looked after by... Anyway, what players does he lose because of the cheating?
He doesn't lose any players unless he had deals already done. He will lose players when the swap occurs between the teams coming up from D2 and the ones going down from D1.
I'm guessing you might be getting his team? ;)

Nah, Im just curious ;)
I was told who he'd lose by James but I forgot who he said, but you have reminded me of the relegation rule, that entitles his squad to lose Kaka and Villa/Tevez.
Yea man, even if they are in a future deal, you can still lose them
Just wondering, if a free agent was requested during mid-season but wasn't taken, do we need to start a new player value thread for them when we are allowed to?

I think a player is only a free agent if released during that (current) Transfer Window. I'm not 100% sure though.
Which free agent you talking about :ninja:
I have a few in mind, none I will let you know about. ;)

All free agents will cost money (unless swapped for another player), but to answer your question, you should start a new thread, as the fee is likely to have changed since the last transfer window.

The free transfer rule was scrapped at the beginning of the last transfer window. It caused more problems that it was worth, and the player swap method works much better.

"Don't Get Down..." Words of encouragement from Nicol.
http://images.worldcupblog.org/www/steve%20nicol.jpg
Manager Steve Nicol knows that it would be easy to feel sorry for his squad following their narrow miss of promotion after Joel FC gained last second victory.
"We could easily sit here and look at the past," Nicol said. "But we need to move forward and continue to improve."
With David Beckham, Alexis, and Jermaine Defoe all likely ending their spell with the squad Nicol knows there is work to be done.
"I have some moves I want to make but it is tough to see how everything is going to go right now," Nicol continued. "I think even with the squad we have we could still compete but I think we're one piece away from guaranteed promotion."
Nicol also shared some of his plans for the off-season.
"I think Lee Young Pyo played his last match for the squad," Nicol informed the media. "Hopefully he can find a better fit."
Nicol also wants to find a D3 squad to take on Gonzalo Castro.
"He's going to be a tremendous player, we saw that when he took the pitch for us this season," the manager went on. "He just needs some more seasoning, hopefully something he can find in a D3 squad."
Finally, Nicol dropped the biggest hint at a major change up.
"We want some more youth at the back. With Sol Campbell, Lillian Thurham, and John O'Shea we have plenty of experience, but maybe moving one of those three could help us get a little more athletic and explosive back there," Nicol concluded.

Golden Boy Is Silva
http://www.panorama-actual.es/archivos/imagenes/silva-jpg-ok.jpg
There have been many rumours circulating in the football world concerning the future of MBV Arkestra's Spanish starlet, David Silva. According to several sources, there has been huge interest in the 21 year-old winger. These rumours have been quashed by MBV Arkestra manager, Arsene Wenger, who said, "Silva is very happy at MBV, and neither he or his agent have indicated a desire to move", when asked during a charity event at MBV's home, Twickenham stadium. Some football pundits, however, believe Arkestra's failure to achieve promotion could result in MBV being pressured in to losing their top earners, including the influential Swede, Kim Kallstrom (pictured below).
http://www.paktribune.com/sports/imgfiles/K-Kallstrom_Sweden.jpg
David Silva has had an impressive debut season at MBV, despite only getting a regular place post-Christmas break. His introduction to the team's midfield injected an increase in creativity and a more direct style of play to the team. His impressive dribbling skills, passing and shooting abilities helped MBV score the second most amount of goals in Division 3 this season. "He would be a huge loss to the team, and to the league as a whole", commented MBV club captain Quique Alvarez. He has gained many admirers this season, and some have claimed such interest from managers in the "handsome" youngster has become rather inappropriate.

Dalglish promised class and he delivers. Juninho Pernambucano passed a medical here today at El Kop and looks to sign pen to paper within 24 hours. Juninho, a proven midfielder in Europe has won many caps with his national side and many top clubs were after the Brazilian's signature. After lengthy negotiations with Charlie, Finally a deal was struck. Juninho and Lucas Leiva (FSL) would move to Real plus £4m for Jermaine Pennant, who is making way for David Beckham, Ashley Young and finally club legend, Steve FInnan will head to de Mess on a half season loan.
Lucas Leiva, a young brazilian central midfielder claimed to be the "Brazilian Gerrard". A box to box, fierce player who won Brazilian player of the year and also captains the U20 Brazil national side. Leiva will join Verdadera on a season loan with the possibility to make it permanent.
Dalglish announced the news to the press after hours of negotiations. "We can confirm that we have met an agreement with de Messi and Juninho and Lucas will put pen to paper tomorrow evening when the window opens. I promised the fans that I would add world class to the side, in order for us to compete in the second division and I would definately say Juninho is just that. Lucas is also a major star when in Brazil. He has come in and will replace Rio Mavuba who has now left us. Hopefully these are the two of a list of signings which will be made over the coming weeks. We can also confirm David Beckham has passed a medical today."
Verdadera have now agreed terms with two of the world's best midfielders, giving way to Steve Finnan who was needed at de Messi. Real will be keen to land a striker and also a defender in the next few days, as they promise to field a strong XI next season.

FLA Manager Of The Season
Division 1
Top Gun (Frank Rijkaard)
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/english/doc/2006-03/06/xin_310303071044194249292.jpg
Good reason to smile
An incredible improvement in the second half of the season saw Rijkaard's men move from the relegation zone up to the top 5, playing a brand of exciting football, and providing tricky opponents for anyone. When installed as manager, TG United looked doomed to relegation, but the Dutchman proved an inspiration to the club, helping them rapidly climb the table and look set for another strong season with him in charge.

Preki-USA (Steve Nicol)

Reason to be hopeful
No promotion, but an unbeaten League campaign and the start of a new era headed by Francesco Totti should help lift the gloom. Nicol managed his squad well, keeping in touching distance of the promotion places throughout and taking his team to the WCL Semi-Finals, but luck was not on the American's side this season, with a number of draws costing the team their promotion hopes, and he will hope for better fortune next season.

Disappointing end of season, but greatness awaits
Despite being strongly tipped for the Division 3 title, MBV Arkestra ended up in 4th place - which would be deemed unacceptable by the fans - and lost the Peace Cup final against rivals Cali FC, however Wenger has built a strong squad with much promise for the upcoming seasons and deserves credit for what he has achieved thusfar.
All managers of the season have had 10m added to their transfer budget, and each manager of the month receives 3m.
Congrats to all winners! Scarface, how do you work out the scorers of each game? If it was random, could it not be bias?

Drogba scoring another one of his Rocket's
Shocking but expected news arouse today from FC Cali's Football Ground that Gerard Houlliér is apparently struggling to keep hold of his talisman Forward Didier Drogba. Gerard mentioned briefly in a recent press conference that "I have had many offers for Didier. I am, of course, willing to listen to these offers but that doesn't mean I will definately negotiate. I am currently thinking about a deal, and at the moment I cannot make up my mind. This is obviously expected as Drogba can walk into any team in the whole world". Drogba has also spoken on the matter, and has recently said "I love it here at FC Cali at the moment. And if we gain promotion then I would be more then happy to stay. I don't mind where I am playing Football at the moment, as I am enjoying it too the full extent".

Simao could be sold
Nicol looks for a striker in return
http://blogs.abc.es/media/simao.jpg
Manager Steve Nicol is entertaining the idea of changing his base formation and would need another striker to complete it. The new formation would no longer need the service of wingers and Simao would be the odd man out.
"We would need to sell Simao to change but it might not be worth moving him," Nicol said. "Simao is a very valuable player so we would only make the deal for an equally spectacular player."
Didier Drogba is a player Nicol is rumored to be interested in. The star striker had a successful run with the Merseysiders earlier this season.
Pundits think the following could be what Nicol has in mind:
---------------Howard-----------------
-Ferriera----Thuram---Campbell---Riise--
----------------------------------------
----------Cocu----Hargreaves-----------
----------------Ballack------------------

The prize winnings have already been added to the transfer funds, so you have a 50m transfer budget, or 45m minus the cash you owe to TG.
So, if you were manager of the month more than once, will the £3m be increased accordingly?
Yeah, but I don't think anyone won the award more than once.

Didier Drogba, just one of many targets
Real Verdadera have made a fast start in the transfer market already agreeing terms for class acts such as David Beckham, Juninho Pernambucano, Nani and Daniel Agger. However, Kenny Dalglish stated he will not be satisfied until he completes a deal for a world class striker. Original spanish reports suggested David Villa was a target but after a recent move to Joel's outfit, it rules him out. According to a reliable source. Wells and Dalglish are in deep talks with FC Cali manager, Gerard Houllier, over a possible move for Ivorian hitman Didier Drogba. Drogba is not the only name Real have been linked with! There are rumours that Dalglish has made moves for Merseyside USA's Adriano and also Joel's Luca Toni. A move for Alfonso Alves could also be on the cards.
Kenny Dalglish has classed a striker his main objective, however will look out for a right back, a defensive minded midfielder and also maybe a left back. "To be able to compete in the second division, the squad needs improving. We have acquired some fantastic talents but I am far from done." An encouraging piece of news for Verdadera fans

Di Double Signing!
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42142000/jpg/_42142888_cup12.jpg
Di Michele celebrates scoring for Palermo
Marcello Lippi once again pulls out a surprise signing, David Di Michele departing from FC Corleone in order to make his way across to Turin. The deal is reportedly in the region of £4m. Di Michele comes with a wealth of footballing experience, he played only two games for FC Corleone yet in both games he was part of the winning team. Plucked out of Serie B by Udinese, he also played for both Reggina and Palermo in the tp flight of Italian football.
He is noted for his pace on and off the ball, generally playing off the front man or wide. He is a technically gifted player with great technique, the ability to finish moves neatly or to rifle shots from well outside the area. He is predominantly right footed, but is capable with both, allowing him to play down either side. Just as for scoring and creating goals, from both open play and set pieces he will be a handful for any defence.
The signings don't stop there though...
http://www.dw-world.de/image/0,,1746110_1,00.jpg
Di Natale after netting for Udinese
Antonio Di Natale, Italian international, has also signed in a three year deal with LSA Originale? Lippi's presence is rumoured to be a major factor in the decision to leave Real Verdadera. If the reports drifting about each club are to be believed the deal is between £6m and £7m in value.
Di Natale's similarities with Di Michele go beyond just their names, Di Natale is also a very strong dribbler that can play out wide or behind the front man. Di Natale has all the attributes needed to play in these positions, and is a truly all round performer. He may only be 172cm in height, but a good leap makes up for that, and a surprising amount of upper body strength makes sure he isn't bullied by centre-backs!
His main strengths however are his pace, agility and reactions. Even coming from deep he can get in behind the defence to deliver a deadly cross or provide a tidy finish to a through ball. He is more than capable of playing in front of the defence however, great vision combined with neat passing make him an excellent provider for others. Yet with great technique he is certainly able to hit the net from some distance, and has been known to score from extremely wide positions.
Italian pundits are suggesting the pair are more likely to be used in a wide capacity, with Di Natale looking likely to be first choice. The versatility and class of both will be causing concern for all Division 3 full backs who will have to consider a way to prevent the pair from causig mayhem in their backline.

Experienced midfielders want out
Guus Hiddink has been left stunned today as Dutch veteran, Edgar Davids, and the creative Argentine, Juan Sebastian Veron, have demanded a move from London.
Their motives were simply because of limited first-team action at the Division 2 team. "I've told Guus in no un-certain terms where I stand. I want out" whined Davids at the press conference held earlier this morning. "Shit team anyway" moaned Veron, sourly.
Hiddink has replied in a similar fashion to the Argentine with a blunt "sad day if anyone gave a shit". Sad day indeed. Davids is up for 2m. Veron for 3m.

Starlets Looking for a Chance to Shine
Two of Asgård United's newest sensations are likely to be loaned out for the coming campaign, reports from Asgård Online TV state. The Division Two club have always prided themselves on unearthing new talent in transfer windows, and the recent signings of Jose Sosa and Renato Augusto, certainly fit the bill.
http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/5255/josesosazd4.jpg
A big part of Argentina and Asgård plans
Argentine midfielder Sosa, 21, caught the eye of Bayern Munich while playing for Estudiantes, but it was Asgård United that acquired his signature.
At home on the right hand side of midfield, the talented youngster has not only been capped at full international level but included in Argentina's squad for this summers Copa America.
Speaking in the online interview, Brian Clough had this to say: 'There's no doubt in my mind that he will soon become a huge part of Argentina's future, along with the likes of Messi, Mascherano and Tevez. It won't be long before he's being praised every bit as much as them.'
http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/2535/renatoaugustofl7.jpg
Heavily linked with Arsenal and Lyon
The younger of the two starlets is Renato Augusto, a 19 year old attacking midfielder, not dissimilar in style to Rivaldo. Several major European clubs have been linked with the young goal scoring playmaker, but again Asgård United captured his signature.
Speaking in Brazil's oldest daily sports paper, Jornal dos Sports, Augusto had this to say: 'I am very happy to have joined this club. I know I can have a very positive impact on the squad and am raring to play. If I must go out on loan first, that's fine - I don't believe it will be long before I am playing regularly'.
Brian Clough went on to say: 'I'll most likely look to loan these guys out to begin with, but I don't imagine it'll be too long before I want them back. I invite any interested parties to make offers, but urge them to be proactive: top talents like these won't hang around.'

Just to update on the availability of Maxi Rodriguez, Moutinho and Jurado, as I said before, I cannot keep private messaging back, or start negotiations. I'm interested in hearing what managers are willing to offer for them, to get an idea of what to expect, and will keep the offers in mind. I've received dozens of messages asking for updates, negotiating etc, but I cannot answer any of that at the moment. I'll let everyone know of any updates as soon as I can.
To clarify, feel free to PM me any offers (they will be kept in mind) but please don't keep asking for updates or to begin negotiations, as it's not possible at present, but i'll get back to you with more info asap.

Inzaghi slots another home!
First it was Beckham, then Juninho and Leiva, Nani and Agger joined up with their new team mates and now another five players have joined up with the Real Verdadera squad. Yes, Real have certainly been busy in the opening few days of the transfer window. The fans expected changes, but certainly not of this calibre.
Firstly, and arguably the most important signing, Italian striker Filippo Inzaghi. El Kop needed a world class finisher as their spear head in attack and after failing with bids for Didier Drogba and also Luca Toni, Dalglish managed to land Inzaghi for a whopping £6m. It could be argued that this amount is too much for a striker who is aging, however, Dalglish stated that it isn't age which counts, it is the player's performance. Inzaghi is certainly not "past it" and with two goals in the Champions League victory for Milan, supports the hitman's claim. Real Verdadera chairman Rick Parry told press that "Inzaghi is just what the club needed, a goal scorer of the highest quality and Dalglish did very well in bringing him here." The Italian not only is a great poacher of goals but has the versatility enabling him to play alone up front and also within a pair.
Of course, Mr Inzaghi wasn't the only one making the move to El Kop yesterday! Young midfielder Jose Sosa joins the midfield ranks on a season long loan from Asgard United. Sosa will apply back up on the right side for David Beckham and is more than capable of taking on that role. Tim Cahill agreed to a permanent move sending unused Andriy Voronin with a suitcase of £2m to Norway Utd. The final two moves saw Gareth Barry join Real in a deal where Ronald Zubar went the opposite way plus £6m and finally, Verdadera managed to pick up up coming left back, Jeremy Mathieu. These two full backs signals the exit of Franck Quedrue as there seems no room to accompany three left backs. Jonathon de Guzman and Ze Roberto have been officially tranfer listed after fairly mediocre spells with El Kop..
Mark Sullivan Resigns From HeadHunters F.C
After a disapointing end to the season which saw HeadHunters miss out on promotion via a penalty shootout, manager Mark Sullivan has decided it was time to part ways with the club.
He had this to say "I've had a great time managing this club but after a disapointing end to the season I feel that it's time for me to leave. I put my all in this season and it purely wasn't good enough.
There are other reasons for why I am leaving but I dont want to discuss those now as I feel it is not the right time to do so. Im looking forward to a nice long break from managing and I shall look into my future when the time is right."
Our sources believe that player power was one of the main factors in Sullivan's exit. His refusal to allow Barzagli and Iaquinta to join bigger clubs caused major problems behind the scene and both players made clear that they would not work under Sullivan any time soon.
.
Are you sure about this, Sully? Take a few days and think some more about iy...

Management Changes
As most of you are probably aware, we have been discussing a management change with Calculus' team the past couple of days. Due to a lack of activity in the last couple of months, unfortunately we have had little choice but to replace him, though are happy to announce the promotion of Sully, who will takeover the Division 1 club with immediate effect.
Bammers05 will be taking charge of Sully's old team in Division 3, also with immediate effect.
Although Sully has experience of the League, and Bammers already has a good idea, please allow them a little time to settle in before bombarding them with offers.
Best of luck to both managers.

He was originally going to be Calculus' assistant manager, but we then realised that would be pretty difficult with Calculus not around much, and Sullivan prefers to be a lone ranger. ;)
As he had already started the threads, we said he could reserve the players he wants now, and a decision would be made on what team he takesover within the next 48 hours.
Is the deals that Calculus made before his exile still legit or do they have to go through Sully now to re-negotiate and so on...?

A jubilant Massimo Ambrosini
The signings have been coming in thick and fast for LSA Originale?, it started with the aquisition of Di Michele and Di Natale on the opening day, after a pre-agreed deal for Aguero. The following day saw still more activity from Gigli, it began with the young Juventus starlet Claudio Marchisio, a special talent having played twenty six games for Juventus at just 21 years of age. His arrival saw the departure of Claudio Maldonado who failed to make an impact last term. He was later joined in midfield by Massimo Ambrosini who signed from Headhunters FC for a nominal fee of £5m. Along with Brocchi, their wealth of experience should prove of great value to both the club, and to Marchisio.
After a succesful period with LSA Liedson's future no lies elsewhere with FC Vipereffsee, after his services were relinquished for a fee of £9.5m. Liedson's departure opened the way for another big signing, Tommaso Rocchi, former MVB Arkestra striker, who signed a four year deal with the club. The final sum totaled over £8m for Rocchi, who is now looking likely to spearhead the LSA Originale? attack as Mido also departed for £4m. When asked however Gigli would not confirm that spending on strikers is finished.
The defensive line has also seen a reshuffle, Matt Taylor's loan period has finished and he has returned to Norway United as Gigli refused to meet the club's valuation of the attacking full back. The void left was quickly filled however, Lippi was keen to bring the Italian international Manuel Pasqual to Turin, from FC Inter Course. A bid of £5m was accepted, and Pasqual signed a five year deal, on a salary understood to be quite 'competitive'. Sebastiano Siviglia is the last name to join the ranks, in a quiet deal for the small fee of £1.5m.
There were other departures however, Enzo Maresca's long expected move came when FC Vipereffsee paid £8.5m for his services. Lippi had only good words to say about Maresca in his departure and wished him all the best for his career. Centre-back Felipe's departure, while also expected, was not so amicable. He found himself confinded to the bench for the majority of his time under Lippi and was informed he was surplus to requirements at the Stadio Olimpico. He moved on to FC Cali for £7m, as they look to prepare for life in Division 2.
Marcello Lippi is scheduled for a press conference some time early in the next week, where will perhaps learn more of his intentions for the rest of the window. For now things are looking positive at the Olimpico and fans are sure to be pleased with some excellent signings.
Two of the biggest captures in LSA history!

hernan Crespo scores for Argentina against arch-rivals Brazil
Today, to much surprise from the footballing community, Hernan Crespo signed a three year contract with LSA Originale?. A deal, involving recently signed Gionatha Spinesi going the other way along with a cash payment, saw Crespo snatched from under the nose of other interested teams.
Crespo has had a succesful tenure at Clockwork Orange and joins LSA in high spirits, his goal poaching instincts, off the ball movement and aerial threat are sure to result in a bundle of goals in Division 3. President of LSA, Gigli, has reportedly indicated that while the spending is not completely over, there is unlikely to be a great deal of new faces arriving after this big name striker.
However before Crespo's arrival, two other names were confirmed as LSA players for next season. Firstly David Pizarro formerly of Newton Heath FC, Pizarro arrives with a wealth of Division 1 experience that should come in useful, especially if LSA Originale? are to push for promotion this term. Pizarro is expected to be starter alongside Massimo Ambrosini or Christian Brocchi in central midfield.
He may not be as combative as his fellow midfielders but makes up for that with technical ability, he is a gifted passer of the ball and has a nack for creating space for himself to pick out his passes. Pizarro will sure to be looking to get the ball down the flanks to the likes of Di Natale and Aguero, ore perhaps sliding one through for the ever dangerous Crespo or the battling Tommaso Rocchi.
Zdenek Grygera may be wishing he'd delayed his transfer, for unfortunately he signed for LSA on the same day as two huge summer transfers. That doesn't lessen his impact what so ever, for an initial fee of £1m, that will increase to £3m come the end of the season, he will certainly strengthen the backline considerably. He is strong, confident and experienced at every level, having received nearly forty caps for the Czech Republic. He is most comfortable at right back, but his versatility allows him to play centre-back and defensive midfield to a high standard.
Only one or two more signings are expected in the media, but LSA have so far managed to surprise everyone with their signings.. will it continue?

Merseyside USA get active in window
Recap neccesary after flurry of bold moves by Nicol
One of the things Merseyside USA manager Steve Nicol said he wanted to avoid was a major turnover in personel on a squad that missed promotion by two points. His main concern was improving depth. With his first five players brought in it is clear that he is sticking to his gameplan.
http://newsfromrussia.com/images/newsline/300268_MEDIUMSQUARE.jpeg
Timmy Simons-DMF
A clear need for Merseyside USA was to improve their quality at the center of the pitch. Having seen Clint Dempsey and Gonzalo Castro, two natural right-sided players, perform in the center of the pitch it was clear the Yanks needed a few good men. Timmy Simons is one of them.
Simons has been a workhorse in every midfield he's ever been a part of. He has World Cup experience with Belgium and has a close personal relationship with Merseyside stalwart Philip Cocu. This chemistry could be very important in Simons holding off the other competitors for his roster spot.
http://www.goal.com/resultsimg/3249.jpghttp://gfx.dagbladet.no/pub/artikkel/4/46/462/462859/Guzman_280.jpg
Julian De Guzman-DMF, RB, RMF & Jonathan De Guzman-RMF
After acquiring the services of the young and very talented Jonathan De Guzman, Nicol decided to bring in his versatile older brother Julian to help the young starlet settle.
Nicol is expected to look to loan out the younger Guzman which could spell the end of the elder's tenure with the Yanks. However, those close to the team have been impressed with the versatility of Julian De Guzman and his very high workrate. It is likely that Julian De Guzman will need to out perform Timmy Simons in the friendlies to make the squad. There is also a slight chance that Julian De Guzman could make the squad as a right back but with so much talent in front of him it is doubtful.
http://www.uefa.com/multimediafiles/photo/competitions/ucl/443622_mediumsquare.jpghttp://www.hindu.com/2005/09/30/images/2005093007521801.jpg
Jo-ST & Roberto Soldado-ST
When Roberto Soldado's signing was announced earlier this week many thought that the Yanks were all set with strikers in their side. Soldado has been the owner of a great goal scoring record no matter where he has played.
The young talent that is João Alves de Assis Silva or Jô as he is referred to was apparently too much for Nicol to pass up for this season. He signed the aspiring goal scorer to full season loan deal. Jô is considered one of the bright young strikers in football.
The signing of Jô, however, has soured the attitude of Roberto Soldado as he assumed he would be given full reign of the third, if not second striker ahead of the incumbent Aruna Dindane. This turmoil has sprouted rumors that Soldado could end up at Lucentum Club de Fútbol.
http://www.mondialigermania.net/wp-content/uploads/ze-roberto.jpg
Ze Roberto-LMF, CMF
This window has seen the Merseysiders' average age drop considerably but as everyone has seen when Nicol sees a veteran player who can doa job come available he will jump at the opportunity.
Ze Roberto will be expected to back up Simao Sambrosa at left midfield or start at the left wing and allow Simao to play on the right wing, a position that has caused much concern with pundits this off-season.
http://www.football.co.uk/shared/images/players/players_80733.jpghttp://www.football.co.uk/shared/images/players/players_74982.jpg
Ibrahim Sonko-CB & Andre Bikey-CB, RB
Ibrahim Sonko and Andrew Bikey have both played together in the past and their chemistry could go along way to making this squad. It was once believed that Nicol would only keep one between Sonko and Bikey but Bikey's aptitude thus far in practice at right back has put both Julian De Guzman's job in jeopardy but has also solidified the backline where Paulo Ferriera has been out of form.

Mark Viduka in action for Aussies!
Australian powerhouse striker Mark Viduka was released before the awaiting press yesterday after putting pen to paper to join Real Verdadera on a three year deal.
"We have been watching Mark for some time now and we actually enquired about him whilst Mark Sullivan was in charge! He seemed pretty keen on keeping him. Then we heard the news that he was being replaced, so we waited behind the scenes to see what was going on. We managed to snatch Mark right at the last minute, the same thing which happened to us with Hernan Crespo, but that's football and you have to deal with things like this." Kenny Dalglish, Verdadera boss, tells Menorcan media.
Viduka paraded the El Kop with the no. 10 shirt, formerly Vagner Love's last season, does that signal an exit for the former CSKA striker? However, it needs no worry for now. Viduka was ecstatic after agreeing the terms of contract. "I was aware of interest for me, but when I heard the Real Verdadera were after me I could not refuse. It's a chance to work with Jack Wells, Rick Parry and Kenny Dalglish and the major factor is second division football. I feel that I can really excel in a team with major class in it."
Dukes wasn't the only one making an entrance in the second week of the transfer window. Versatile defender, Tomas Ujfalusi, made the swap from Merseyside USA for a deal worth £1m + Ze Roberto and Jonathan De Guzman. Ujfalusi can play in all positions around the back four and will give Verdadera a utility player which was very much needed. "We fought off strong interest to sign Tomas and we believe he has a job to do for us and we want him to be a major factor next season.".

Bammers05 takes over
After the resignation of Sully, fans didn't have to wait long until a new manager came in, in the form of Bammers05, formerly an assistant manager to Calculus at Green Army.
Bammers was quick to bring in some new players, the most notable of which was Espanyol striker Raul Tamudo, who came in to boost the teams firepower up front, along with him came a

But not all of the transfer activity was players coming to Dial Square, in fact, Willy Sagnol's transfer was as part of a trade with Charlie: 9, which also saw 6m come Dial Square's way, while talented Chelsea midfielder Jon Obi Mikel went to Golazo de Messi FC. Also departing was Australian forward

Mark Viduka, rumoured to be unhappy with the transfer of Raul Tamudo, which could see him thrown out of the 1st eleven. He went to Real Verdadera, for a deal which saw Verdadera give Dial Square 4m now with another 3m soon to come.
As for future transfers, Bammers has said that he wants to bring in some wingers and perhaps a commanding central midfielder. He is also expected to name a captain in the next few days.

SENNAsational News
Marcos Senna was officially unveiled as the captain of MBV Arkestra earlier today. The new summer signing has been wearing the hallowed red and white armband during recent friendlies, and his leadership qualities have impressed manager Arsene Wenger. "He [Senna] has been a great inspiration to the other player, so far", Wenger explained. "He's not only guided his teammates well, but he has also led by example."

Senna leaves the press conference pleased with his new role.
Senna was absolutely overjoyed with his new role as club captain, replacing the recently released Quique Alvarez. "I am happy to have this opportunity", said Senna during the press conference. "I will try my hardest to do as good a job possible for the other players, the manager, the club and for the fans. I am determined to lead MBV to the title and D2."
Senna was signed as part of a deal which saw himself, Eidur Gudjohnsen and Christian Wilhelmsson (both pictured below) arrive at Twickenham Stadium from Asgård Utd, with David Silva and Sulley Muntari heading in the opposite direction.

Reports from The Guardian and The Indepedent suggest Luis Boa Morte is far from happy at FC Vipereffsee after being told he would have to play a bit-part role next season by club manager Johan Cruyff. It is said that Cruyff would let Boa Morte leave should a club match the £3.5m asking price for the winger.

Defence is strengthened as new faces arrive!
http://www.thethaovietnam.com.vn/Library/Images/11/2006/10/11-10/Kakha%20Kaladze.jpg
Kaladze at press interview
LSA Originale? have announced the signings of two new faces, however the media see the two signings as drastically different. Twenty-nine year old Kakhaber Kaladze has signed a four year deal with LSA, after a swap deal with Clockwork Orange that sees Stefano Fiore and Sebastiano Siviglia going in the opposite direction. Kaladze has had interest from a number of clubs but after long negotiations he agreed terms with the Turin club.
In a press conference, scheduled to unveil him to the public, Kaladze clued the press into his motives for dropping down to a Division 3 side; 'I feel that LSA Originale? are building a squad here, they have ambitions that I share. I do expect to be a Division 2 player once again... we know it's going to be difficult, but I'm willing to do everything I can to make it happen and I know everyone else here will do the same. We all have a goal here and hopefully we can make the fans happy!'
When questioned he said; 'Of course there was no bad blood between me and Clockwork Orange, it just happened that our interests split. I was no longer in their plans as a club. I cant hold it against them, I enjoyed my stay there but football is like that sometimes. We have to move on, and if I'm lucky enough to return their I do hope I'll get a warm reception, for they're a great set of fans and I thank them for their support!'
The other signing has yet to have such an illustrious career, for he is only twenty years of age. Domenico Criscito signed for a straight fee of £2.5m, he has joined the club on a five year deal for a competitive salary, especially for his age. He has been been tipped for a glittering future by many people, yet his greatest compliment came from arguably the best goalkeeper in the word, Gianluigi Buffon who described him as the best young defender in Italy.
It is expected however that Criscito may spend his first season away on loan in order for him to garner first team experience. Marcello Lippi has made it clear that he is a keen admirer, and is looking forward to working with the youngster in order to make the most of his talent.

Noble in action
MBV Arkestra have decided to put the England U-21 International midfielder, Mark Noble, up for loan. "He is still very young, and I would like for him to gain valuable first team experience", explained MBV manager Arsene Wenger. Mark Noble has shown immense potential and made a huge impression at his previous club West Ham United. His dynamic performances caught the eye of Wenger last season, after his emergence turned round the fortunes of West Ham to save them from relegation.
It is believed that MBV will be looking a forward to be loaned in exchange for Noble's services, to fill the void left by Tommaso Rocchi. Ole Solskjaer appears to be top of Wenger's hit list to help fill the desired four striker criterion. Rumours have been circulating around the terraces that the Norwegian striker feels he has done all he can at Norway United. The arrival of Kuranyi and Vorinin to Old Trafford has fueled further speculation of the veteran striker and current manager of Norway United's future.

New Coaching Team At Arkestra
http://img471.imageshack.us/img471/995/henktencateuo4.jpg
Henk ten Cate shows his delight after joining MBV Arkestra
MBV Arkestra have added to their tactical and technical know-how, by employing the services of Henk ten Cate as the new assistant manager. Arsene Wenger is believed to have become very friendly with Ten Cate after their last footballing meeting in the Champions League final when they were at their previous clubs Arsenal and Barcelona. "We hit it off immediately", explained the new assistant. "After the Champions League Final, we chatted about our desired tactics, and as it turned out, we both enjoy an attractive, passing, attacking and flowing style of football." In Spain, the pundits believe that Cate was the true tactical mastermind behind Barcelona's recent success and not Frank Rijkaard.
Some critics believe the arrival of Ten Cate as the new assistant is as a direct result of MBV's failure to gain promotion to D2, with many believing that Wenger needs help. Despite having arguably the strongest D3 team last season, Arkestra's season ended quite disappointingly, with no promotion and narrowly missing out on the Peace Cup. Some football writers believe Cate's appointment could see Wenger leaving at the end of next season with Ten Cate taking the top spot. MBV chairman rubbished such talk when interviewed at a charity golf game, "That's rubbish", clarified Dragonfly.
http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/1539/coachingstaffjd2.jpg
Arsene Wenger also added a full coaching staff to help mould his players to legendary status, and for them to play at their full potential. Wenger has signed recent legends of football to train the players and show them what it takes to be as great as they once were. The new goalkeeper coach is Peter Schmeicel, arguably one of the greatest goalies of all time; defence coach is Tony Adams, former Arsenal and England captain, always has been a commanding force in defence, and he has had coaching experience already; midfield coach is Fernando Redondo, an Argentine legend who had everything as a midfielder, he was a complete player; and finally, coaching the strikers will be Alan Shearer. One of the finest forwards to have graced any football pitch, and Wenger will be hoping Shearer will show the current strikers how to finish off teams, because one of MBV's problems last season was they would dominate teams, but would fail to put away chances to put games out of sight.
These new appointments shows clear ambition from the D3 team to move to the top of the FL as soon as possible.

He received his first call-up for the senior France National Team on May 24, 2007 for the Euro 2008 Qualifiers against Ukraine and Georgia
After impressing chairman Mat with Bakari's constant bombing forward and energetic displays for AJ Auxerre shown on French highlight shows, Scouts were sent out immediately to report back on the promising full-back. After a few more games at club level and a call-up for the France senior squad, other clubs such as Arsenal were rumoured to be interested in the youngster, we could see that Sagna was AFC Chelsea-standard and brang him im as soon as possible on a 2.5m deal.

I don't think profiles really belong in this thread, unless you're trying to flog the players mentioned, so it would be good to redirect them to the Player Focus thread and team threads.
However, as it says in the aforementioned thread, requests for entry are taken via PM. I wouldn't want to jump into James' thread and put stuff in there, but feel free to draw up your own profiles, as Mat and Rambo have, and PM them James' way. Chances are they'll get in.

TEAMS OF THE YEAR
Division 1
Goalkeeper: Petr Cech
http://de.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/49029.jpg
The Czech #1 edged out Casillas in the voting, following a wonderful season, where he conceded just 4 goals in 15 games - a stunning achievement in any instance.
2nd: Iker Casillas
3rd: Timo Hildebrand
Left Back: Fabio Grosso
http://de.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/65197.jpg
The Italian lands a place in a Division 1 "all-star" team again, after several more impressive performances, particularly in the latter stages of the season.
2nd: Ashley Cole
3rd: Philip Lahm
Centre Back: Roberto Ayala
http://de.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/51473.jpg
As solid as they come, Roberto Ayala had his most successful season yet, outperforming Chivu, Nesta and Puyol to become the mainstay of the treble winners defence. Helped to keep out the likes of Henry, Villa, Van Nistelrooy and Shevchenko, and had a huge hand in the club's outstanding defensive record.
Centre Back: Jorge Andrade
http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/fifa/gen/tr/pl/s/184465.jpg
Part of a rock solid defence alongside Kolo Toure, his strength, aerial ability and poise helped Division 1 newcomers, Racing Club Combine Harvester, narrowly avoid relegation, after a torrid second half of the season.
3rd: Carles Puyol
4th: Fabio Cannavaro
Right Back: Daniel Alves
http://www.weltfussball.de/bilder/spieler/12541.jpg
A one man wrecking machine, the energetic Brazilian dominated the right flank all season along, and was a star performer for The Green Army.
2nd: Giourkas Seitaridis
3rd: Luis Miguel
Defensive Midfield: Gennaro Gattuso
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/30014.jpg
The incomparable Gattuso displayed his usual hunger, grit and determination to allow the likes of Iniesta, Messi and Quaresma more freedom to attack. The season didn't end as positively as the Italian would have hoped, but you can bet he will be doing all he can to not let the same happen next season.
2nd: Mahamadou Diarra
3rd: Esteban Cambiasso
Central Midfield: Steven Gerrard
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/31484.jpg
6 goals from a central midfielder may be enough reason alone to include them in a 'Team of the year', but that only tells half the story with Steven Gerrard. His patented drive from midfield troubled teams througout the season, and the complete midfielder won a number of man of the match awards along the way.
2nd: Cesc Fabregas
3rd: Xavi Hernandez
Left Wing: Robin van Persie
http://ru.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/53130.jpg
A key member of the high flying Newton Heath, the Dutchman was at his supreme best on the left or right side of a 3 man frontline. Troubling defenders with his quick feet and unpredictability, the technique and control shown by Van Persie was often awe-inspiring.
2nd: Arjen Robben
3rd: Robinho
Right Wing: Cristiano Ronaldo
http://fr.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/63706.jpg
A nightmare for defenders, Cristiano Ronaldo's pace and acceleration alone can leave the opposition red faced, but when he combines those attributes with such quick feet, close control and dribbling ability, the Portuguese flyer becomes nigh on impossible to stop.
2nd: Lionel Messi
3rd: Joe Cole
Striker: Thierry Henry
http://de.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/24057.jpg
Despite failing to land The Golden Boot™ for a third successive season, Thierry Henry caught the eye time and time again, with another string of fine displays. A good first half of the season for Racing Club Avenido, but really came into his element when he moved to TG United on loan. Forming a magnificent partnership with Ruud van Nistelrooy, they combined to help the club fight off relegation and eventually claim 5th spot.
Striker: Ruud van Nistelrooy
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/38901.jpg
The prolific hitman scored a bucketload of goals yet again, and is now the proud co-owner of The Golden Boot™. Showing an incredible knack for being at the right place at the right time, the Dutchman has supreme movement, and world class predatory finishing.

Division 2
Goalkeeper: Igor Akinfeev
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/66794.jpg
Cat-like agility and lightning fast reflexes make Akinfeev a goalkeeper with an extremely bright future. Leaving the opposition often frustrated, the youngster pulled off a number of world class stops.
2nd: Artur Boruc
3rd: Edwin van der Sar
Left Back: John Arne Riise
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/34234.jpg
Predictably, Riise's powerful left foot was on hand to fire some rocket fueled strikes at goal, and a large number of them troubled the keeper. With a handful of goals and assists to his name, the Norweigan also proved he is strong in the defensive aspect, with some tough tackling, strength and balance shown.
2nd: Gael Clichy
3rd: Wayne Bridge
Centre Back: Nemanja Vidic
http://pt.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/41382.jpg
Immense power and body balance, Nemanja Vidic often simply cannot be surpassed. Excellent aerial ability make Vidic very accomplished at both ends of the season. Still at a ripe age for a centre back, the Serban gladiator can scarily become even better!
Centre Back: Ricardo Carvalho
http://de.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/31429.jpg
3rd: Sol Campbell
4th: Raul Albiol
Great timing in the tackle and leadership made Carvalho a key member of La Naranja. Often used in a 3 man backline, he was everywhere blocking efforts and providing a defensive barrier.
Right Back: Massimo Oddo
http://de.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/66327.jpg
His bombarding runs down the right wing become a key aspect of the relegation threatened side. Showing good defensive strength, Oddo also provided good width with some good dribbling and inviting crosses.
2nd: Douglas Maicon
3rd: Micah Richards
Defensive Midfield: Torsten Frings
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/38946.jpg
Superb alongside young Joao Moutinho, the German provided the promoted Division 2 side with a great balance in midfield, but was not afraid of getting forward to support the attack. A true box-to-box player.
2nd: Daniele De Rossi
3rd: Anatoliy Tymoschuk
Centre Midfield: Andrea Pirlo
http://de.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/26917.jpg
Not many superlatives have not been used to state how good the deep-lying Italian playmaker has been this season. Had a massive impact on Old London Town's excellent passing and creativity.
2nd: Diego
3rd: Michael Ballack
Left Midfield: Rafael van der Vaart
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/47516.jpg
9 goals in total this season was a terrific return from the Dutch midfielder. Part of a fantastic midfield, he regularly showed impressive attacking ability.
2nd: Simao
3rd: Amantino Mancini
Right Midfield: Shaun Wright-Phillips
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/68471.jpg
A menace for full backs all throughout the season, Shaun Wright-Phillips found his top form to help his team gain promotion in a fiercely contested promotion battle. Chipping in with a number of goals and assists, the slight winger supplied a regular flow of delighful crosses, combined with clever control and dribbling.
2nd: Bastian Schweinsteiger
3rd: David Beckham
Striker: Javier Saviola
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/60961.jpg
While he may have been outscored by Alberto Gilardino, it was "Conejito" who was the star performer for the Division 2 winners in attack. His linkup play with his gifted midfielders and Obafemi Martins was often a joy to watch, and his finishing and movement was top drawer.
Striker: Luca Toni
http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Photo/competitions/WorldCup/223780_MEDIUMSQUARE.jpg
Displaying all the attributes that have made him one of the world's most feared marksmen, Tonigoal led the goalscoring charts all season, before a final day brace from Van Nistelrooy made him the joint top scorer.

Goalkeeper: Ricardo
http://de.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/33797.jpg
The controversial stopper was on hand to help FC Intercourse to mid-table, in what was an underachieving season for the Division 3 side. Ricardo made 3 penalty saves.
2nd: David James
3rd: Guillermo Ochoa
Left Back: Leighton Baines
http://www.4thegame.com/media/00/03/49/baines_leighton_wafc_profile_2 006.jpg
A scorer of two goal of the season contenders, young Leighton Baines showed great promise, displaying poise, composure and control, however it was the Englishman's tidy passing and beautiful crosses which really made fans sit up and take notice.
2nd: Matthew Taylor
3rd: Gareth Barry
Centre Back: Ronaldo Naldo
http://fr.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/101324.jpg
A fine season for the Brazilian centre back, who also managed to get his name on the scoresheet on 3 occasions.
Centre Back: Andrea Barzagli
http://www.paktribune.com/sports/imgfiles/Andrea%20Barzagli_Italy.jpg
The key defender in what was at times a vulnerable looking defence for the promotion chasers. In what was a disappointing end to the season, with a penalty shootout loss meaning the Italian missed out on promotion to Division 2, it was through no fault of his own - he showed great defensive strength for most of the season.
3rd: Javi Navarro
4th: David Rozehnal
Right Back: Steve Finnan
http://de.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/34371.jpg
Despite only joining in mid-season from Merseyside USA, the impact the right-back made to the cause cannot be understated. Real consistency was shown from the reliable Irishman, who always made life difficult for the opposition with fine defensive displays, while he ensured he got forward to support the attack.
2nd: Rafinha
3rd: Christian Panucci
Defensive Midfield: Rio Mavuba

2nd: Alberto Aquilani
3rd: Stefano Fiore
Right Midfield: Bernd Schneider
http://www.weltfussball.de/bilder/spieler/44.jpg
Pipping Jermaine Pennant to a place in the team, Schneider proved what an asset he is to any team. Great work rate, passing and creativity made up some of the most important aspects of the veteran midfielder's game.
2nd: Jermaine Pennant
3rd: Andres D'Alessandro

Striker: Didier Drogba

Striker: Pauleta
http://www.euro-goal.info/eurox/europe/images/photo/2006-7/pauleta.jpg

Perhaps a surprising choice considering his failure to make the team of the season, but Vagner Love made up for not scoring quite as many as Pauleta or Drogba, by posing defenders with more problems. With very good close control, pace, skill and dribbling

Luca Toni and Ruud van Nistelrooy both lay claim to the golden boot, following solitary goals from the pair on the final day of the season. It ends Thierry Henry's hopes of winning a third consecutive boot, falling 2 goals below the target. Van Nistelrooy and Toni have been in superb form all season, helping their clubs to impressive campaigns.
FLA Manager Of The Season

Good reason to smile
An incredible improvement in the second half of the season saw Rijkaard's men move from the relegation zone up to the top 5, playing a brand of exciting football, and providing tricky opponents for anyone. When installed as manager, TG United looked doomed to relegation, but the Dutchman proved an inspiration to the club, helping them rapidly climb the table and look set for another strong season with him in charge.

That's too the Tournoi de Mjolner of course! The draw has been made for the tournament also, plotting Foca against Wan Seattlewangsa FC, AFC Chelsea and Old London Town. Ollie has been very busy over past 72 hours too.
Minutes ago, the rumbling of Luciano Zauri joining the club has been confirmed in a deal worth around £4.5m. Zauri is yet to speak but his agent told of his delight at securing the deal.
Ollie also spoke at a press conference earlier today before the confirmation had arrived, "He's a lad I've watched and been impressed by. He can play on both wings and that means he'd be a great asset to this club."
Holloway went on to confirm that he'd made several players available and was hoping to get some deals sorted in the very near future. "There's palyers at this club who I inherited who couldn't cook my tea good enough let alone play football." Not one to mince his words, Ollie continued, "Postiga, Ridgewell and Tudor are those boys. They're not my kind of players and they're available to a good or bad home.
"There's one or two boys who may revel in being loaned out, but at the minute, Kev Mirallas would rate up there. He's got a bright future ahead of him, but I think he needs more regular games.
"Obviously we can still strengthen the squad, but our team is taking shape nicely. Many teams will be envious of some of our players."
How Postiga, Tudor and Ridgewell go about finding a new club and if Ollie can get some more troops in for the cause remains to be seen. We can just wish the team the best in the upcoming tournament which kicks off against Wan Seattlewangsa FC on Tuesday.
GOOD LUCK BOYS!

Verdadera Chase El Nino
Reports from El Kop suggest that Real Verdadera are planning one last bang in the current transfer window. Kenny Dalglish has done extremely well to build a squad worthy to compete in the second division and after the recent signing of Amauri, it seemed that this was to be the finale of Real Verdadera's transfer activity.
However, according to two main Menorcan papers, "La Gazetta" and "El Kop", Dalglish plans to crash out of the transfer window with a bang! Verdadera owner, Jack Wells, a huge supporter of the spanish ace, Fernando Torres, is believed to be planning to swoop for the Avenido striker. It looks impossible that this deal would be permanent as El Nino's £27m price tag is well above Verdadera's budge, although it is believed a loan deal is being lined up.
When Wells was asked on the matter, he calmly replied, "Fernando is one of the few players with extreme talent! Of course i'm interested, who wouldn't be? It would be incredibly difficult to bring Fernando to Verdadera. However, I will do everything in my power to sign a player of his calibre if given the opportunity."
The final piece of transfer news circulating the Menorcan outfit is the future of Rafael Sobis. Sobis appears to be fairly low in the pecking or order or "priority list" and could seek a move elsewhere. Sobis boasts a lot of talent, having had a good season with Real. The Brazilian, is definately a special talent but it is unlikely to be used this season and could be on the move if only as a loan..

Shock exit from LSA!

Fans will no longer get to see Di Michele in LSA colours...
In a transfer that shocked our correspondents here at Gazzetta, David Di Michele has been transferred to Norway United for £7m before he even stepped onto the pitch for the Turin club. The deal, £3m more than LSA originally paid for him from FC Corleone, is seemingly a good piece of business, even if it is a somewhat strange affair. When he was unveiled pundits were discussing whether he'd be starting, or a utility player... none predicted this.
According to reports coming out of the club, the move was induced by FIGC's enquiry into illegal betting on games. After the probe into the player's conduct, he was immediately transfer listed and clubs were contacted about a potential move. The official line on the club website is that the board felt the offer was 'too good to refuse', though cynics still suggest otherwise. LSA supremo, Gigli, was reportedly unimpressed with the allegations and insisted the player was released by the club in order to ensure that the club was not brought into disrepute.
In other news Grygera's arrival has seemingly displaced Marco Cassetti who is now concluding a move to FC Cali for a fee in the region of £5m. With Garics departure earlier in the window, this leaves LSA short of capable right-backs. If the rumour mills are to be believed Alessandro Birindelli is on the verge of signing a two year deal to fill that void.

Luca Toni Strongly Linked With Cali FC

Toni looking distraught after heading home Pirlo's free-kick in the World Cup 2006 Final, only to have it ruled out for Offside
According to many sources around the web, Luca Toni is close to sealing a deal with FC Cali. Luca had a superb time last season, scoring 14 goals all-in-all, which see's him sharing the golden boot with Dutch Striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy. He hasn't ruled out a move to FC Cali, as in a recent interview when asked by FC Cali Programme Writer George Matthews, "Luca, it would be great having you down here. Your great talent and you seem as if your a goal-machine. Would you ever join FC Cali, Your thoughts please". He answered with "Thankyou. FC Cali is a well supported club, and that itself tempts me. I am enjoying my Football at the moment, but will not rule out a move". This would be a great capture, but it also may see new star Morten Gamst Pedersen heading in the opposite direction, along with maybe already startled Cris.

Wells: "Torres is shock of window"
Unbelievable antics has happened over the past couple of days at the El Kop. It has been revealed to all that goal-scoring maestro, Fernando Torres has agreed on a move to Wells' Menorcan outfit. Torres, aged 23, was a key part of last year's Division 1 winners side, Racing Avenido and has chosen to link up with Juninho, Beckham, Inzaghi etc. for next season.
The shock deal came about, after lengthy negotiations were taken place over a number of weeks and finally a deal was struck. Fernando Torres has made a loan move to El Kop with a suitcase of £8 million. Rafael Sobis, who was expected to leave Verdadera, has gone the opposite way on a permanent basis and Vagner Love has followed him in a straight loan swap between the two, Torres and Love. Real owner, Jack Wells, is a major fan of the spanish genius and was chasing Torres ever since he took ownership of Real Verdadera. Torres is a superb goal scorer and adds a huge amount of flexibility to the Menorcan side.
"I am delighted, and it is without doubt, the signing of the window. Fernando is a huge talent and it is impossible to put it into words how delighted I am with his capture. It will send shockwaves down the FL and especially Division 2 as I do believe we can gain promotion through the signings we have made." Expressed Wells.
"It is going to be a very exciting time for me here at El Kop. I strongly believe I can help Real achieve something this season and I want to make this an unforgettable season." Replied Fernando Torres.
Torres is expected to be the spearhead of the Real Verdadera attack linking up with Italian legend, Pippo Inzaghi. .

Luca Toni - The Italian ace will be playing at FC Cali next Season
After weeks of negotatian's and many offer's turned down for the Italian Ace Luca Toni, Benitez finally had an offer accepted. This offer, will unfortunately see new star Morten Gamst Pedersen heading in the opposite direction, along with rock-solid central defender Cris and also new signing, Fredi Kanouté. Houlliér said this "To get such Football Player's like Luca's talent, you have to make risk's. You have to most of the time, get rid of some of your best player's to get that one player you are interested in. Toni, is a new era at FC Cali. I said this sort of thing when Drogba signed, but with no offence to Drogba as he's an amazing player, Luca is I feel, a better striker". Luca Toni isn't the only player who has signed, as the Flying Frenchman Steed Malbranque has also put pen to paper on an 4 Year deal.
Luca Toni has commented on this recently as he was unvailed to the Press. He said "As I recently said, I am enjoying Football at the moment. I'm glad to be here just as much as the next man, unless the next man is someone that isn't glad to be here*. I hope I can continue my form and show the FC Cali fans that I am here, and I am here to stay."
.
* - I put that stupid quote in there as sometimes Football Player's do say funny things or things that you just can't understand. Realism is the way forward ( ).

According to portuguese reports, former Sporting Lisboa winger, Nani has been touted by current club Real Verdadera to other teams in order to bring in two to three quality players before the next campaign begins. Nani having yet to officially make his league debut in front of El Kop is believed to have been touted to clubs in order to bring in the final ingredients of Kenny Dalgish's side.
Dalglish brought in Nani from Rafa FC after Rafa Benitez' side were relegated from Division 2 last season and was looking forward to playing for Real Verdadera.
However, the speculation is yet to be fact as Sky Sports are yet to speak to any Verdadera officials and will keep the public informed of Nani's future.

Arriving to sign his contract at Wankdorf.
Mexican shot-stopper Francisco Guillermo Ochoa sealed his move to Foca Juniors today in trade deal seeing Ivan Helguera moving the opposite direction. A reported fee of around £1m also moved to the Menorcan side Real Verdadera.
Speaking breifly to exclusive Foca reporters Guillermo said, "It's exciting time for me. I hope to get many first-team chances and to keep clean sheets in whatever chances I get.
"I can see that there will be pressure as the team is expected to succeed, but I'm confident in my ability to build on my talent.
"I hope to repay the faith shown in me by the staff here. We have great young players here like Drenthe and Maduro so hopefully we will all develop to help Foca go up the leagues."
Mirko Vucinic also joined last week as Helder Postiga was released. Ollie spoke about this, "Mirko is a much hungrier player than Helder. And as nobody seemed interested in taking Helder from us, it was an easy decision to make."
The team were also knocked out of the Tournoi de Mjolner at the group stage. After picking up a 1-1 drew against Wan, they fell to a tough AFC Chelsea team. Needing a win and results to go their way, Foca got off to a bright start against London Town with Koller netting on 13 minutes. However London Town ran out 2-1 winners and progressed with AFC Chelsea.

Helguera begins training
A shock move saw keeper Guillermo Ochoa leave El Kop after a thoroughly succesful previous campaign. After the arrival of Santiago Canizares, it was obvious that one of last season's goal keepers would be moving on but the expected to leave was not Ochoa.
Verdadera announced that they recieved an offer which fit the bill for Ochoa and the deciding factor was the player added as a make-weight for the deal to go through. Veteran spaniard, Ivan Helguera, caught the eye of Kenny Dalglish as he believed he needed a defensive minded midfielder as back up for Alberto Aquilani and Juninho Pernambucano, both attacking midfielders. "Ivan will bring leadership, experience and quality to the team and we are exceedingly happy he is here." Dalglish stated. It was also a relief for the Verdadera people as it was starting to become a struggling hunt to find a defensive midfielder of the quality which would fit the rest of the team. Reports claim that Verdadera failed with bids for three top class midfielders, Javier Mascherano, Mahamadou Diarra and finally David Albelda. Speculation lets on that Xabi Alonso was also a target.
Helguera provides Real with versatility as in his Madrid days he could play in midfield or at the back. This will cover both Navarro, Agger and Ujfalusi adding a fourth man to the defensive centre. The expected departure of David Rozehnal also was announced yesterday as he completed a £2.5m deal with Division 3 title hopers LSA Originale? The question now is, is this the end to Verdadera's crusade of signings?.

MATEJA MOVES!
http://www.sportinglife.com/pictures/general/kezmanstar.jpg
In a multi-million pound move, Serbian striker Mateja Kezman has left Foca Juniors for newboys Real Lerida as the new regime at both clubs endeavour to shape up for the new season.
Kezman's future had been speculated in the press over the past few days following a high number of strikers at the club. Rolando Bianchi's arrival on-loan had signalled the departure of atleast one striker. It remains to be seen whether any other deals will be brokered over the last few weeks of the window.
Kezman's fee is rumoured to be £7.5million which will feasibly put back into the team to strengthen the squad for what will no doubt be a hard slog of a season for the newcomers.
Holloway spoke breifly of the deal, "We wish Mateja all the best, but we couldn't guarantee him first team football, and squad sizes need to be considered."
He continued, "We've got an exceptional fee for someone of his age, and simply we couldn't refuse. I've already identified a couple of targets and I'll discuss these players with my staff. We've got some names. I'll just say to the supporters, this isn't the end of our activity in the market - there should be some players coming in and around to get bums on seats."
About players possibly leaving, Holloway was blunt, "Liam Ridgewell and Mark Schwarzer have been told to find new clubs because they're not needed here. Gary Cahill, Giles Barnes and Kevin Mirallas are players with bright futures, but I'd like them to get some epxerience on-loan. We also have a probable loan going out sometime soon."
Expect to find any transfer deals reported on the official club site.

Yesterday evening, former Liverpool attacker, Luis Garcia put pen to paper on a deal to join Real Verdadera. Real continue their revolutionary squad change with the tricky spaniard whom is thought to be one of the final additions to Kenny Dalglish's squad. It has been confirmed by Garcia's former club, Cali FC, that the deal is worth £5m plus the switch of Curtis Davies.
Davies was surplus to requirements at El Kop with the return of Steve Finnan and the arrival of Czech defender, Tomas Ujfalusi. It was only time before Davies left the Menorcan side, yesterday he agreed terms with Cali FC. Kenny Dalglish stated, "It is the best outcome for everyone, we bring Luis here and Curtis will get first team football at Cali FC."
According to reports, Real Verdadera remain on the hunt for a quality defensive midfielder despite the signing of Ivan Helguera and Lucas Leiva. Helguera is believed to be only back up for Verdadera..

LSA bring in new goalkeeper...
http://us.news1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/fifa/gen/fifa/20060709/i/2021700318.jpg
Gigi Buffon celebrates winning the World Cup with Italy...
LSA Originale? have shattered their previous record transfer fee by bringing in fromer Clockwork Orange goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon. The deal is worth nearly £20m, however the initial payment is only £11m along with up and coming goalkeeper Scott Carson, there will then be a further £3m to be paid come the end of the season. It is rumoured that Clockwork Orange also have first options on both Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero should they leave Turin.
Buffon brings with experience beyond his years, at only twenty-nine, the Azzurri shot-stopper has won the World Cup with Italy, the Scudetto twice with Juventus, and the Champions League also with the Bianconeri. Alongside team medals, he is a decorated with many individual titles, having been voted the 'Best Goalkeeper' in both Italy and the World numerous times. Pele also included him in his list of the greatest living footballers, one of only eight goalkeepers included, others consisting of the likes of Peter Schmeichel, Gordon Banks and Dino Zoff.
As noted above, the capture sees a player going in the opposite direction, one with a promising future. LSA fans have already spoken of their disappointment at seeing Carson depart, however the vast majority have also indicated the disappointment is nothing compared to the magnitude of the joy at Buffon's arrival. The Turin club also still have young starlet Gianluca Curci, of Roma and the Italy U21s, as a reserve, a player with as glittering a future as any.
Buffon spoke only shortly to the media but had the following to say: "Many have questioned my decision in playing in a lower division, but when I signed for LSA I knew it was a team with winning spirit. There are champions aplenty here, Alex [Del Piero] and Massimo [Ambrosini] I of course know well having played with them."
"Yet there are also many faces I know from playing against, Hernan Crespo and Tommaso Rocchi are fantastic strikers that have given me plenty to think about in our past confrontations. There's a winning pedigree to the squad, and I just hope I can get settled in and start repaying the respect and faith the manager and fans here have already shown me."
In a week that saw LSA Originale? knocked out of the Tournoi de Mjölner by Racing Club Avenido, this news should certainly raise the fans spirit. Gigli's team had a fantastic run in the competition playing some terrific football, and battling against the odds to beat teams from higher divisions, but in the end didn't have enough to get past the Division 1 champions. The team are expected to play a select few friendlies to maintain both fitness and form, before embarking on their promotion bid.

Arbeloa celebrates
Kenny Dalglish has further added to his squad with yet another Spaniard, this time it is Rafa FC star defender Alvaro Arbeloa. It is likely Arbeloa has been brought in to provide cover at the right back position for Liverpool team-mate, Steve Finnan. After the departure of unused Curtis Davies it was on the priority list to recruit a second right back and Kenny Dalglish made swift movements to do so.
Arbeloa is the second spaniard this week to join the Real Verdadera camp, after Luis Garcia made the switch from Cali FC. Kenny Dalglish revealed how important it is to keep the spanish culture of Verdadera, "it is very important for the team spirit to have a selection of spanish players and even mediterranean players. It is easier to communicate on and off the field and the bonds between players and staff grows stronger." Dalglish himself being scottish claims he has fit in perfectly with the spanish regime.
Alvaro Arbeloa announced his delight at becoming the latest addition to the squad stating, "I have been linked with this club for some time now, everyday I read the papers and there is something linking me here. I knew very little about the interest but yesterday I was told about the possible move and to work with Kenny is a privilege."
To finalise, Dalglish ended speculation linking Finnan to Rafa FC, the club claimed on their website "strong links with the Irishman", however, Dalgish responded that it was 'utter rubbish' and that Finnan is going no where..

Further surprises in Turin...

Aquilani drives past his opponent...
Not even twenty-four hours after LSA Originale? rocked the league by signing Gianluigi Buffon from Clockwork Orange, they've surprised us here at Gazzetta again! Many thought after that latest signing, Gigli would be finished with the transfer market for this window. Evidently we were wrong, after spying an opportunity Lippi specified Aquilani was required, as has oft been the case this window, Gigli did not disappoint his head coach.
Aquilani's arrival has seen relatively new-signing David Pizarro exit in the opposite direction. It is rumoured that Pizarro fell out of favour with backroom staff due to his attitude in training. It is expected that Aquilani will be starting in central midfield alongside Massimo Ambrosini, he is likely to have license to go forward to create and perhaps bag himself a couple of goals while Ambrosini protects the back four. Aquilani is obviously younger than Pizarro, but at 6'1" also brings a lot more physical presence to the midfield than the diminutive Pizarro.
Aquilani enjoyed a succesful campaign last term in Division 3 with Real Verdadera, and played one of the most significant roles in their promotion. Aquilani will be hoping to replicate last season's achievements this time with LSA Originale?, having taken a step back down a division, he explained the move in a short press conference:
"The staff here have shown me a great deal of respect here, it was a difficult decision to leave [Real Verdadera], I enjoyed a fabulous time there and made many friends. The time was right however, and I am glad of the return to Italy, it is my homeland and I feel more comfortable here than I ever could in Spain."
"I now have to get down to some hardwork in order to get ready for the coming season, as I refuse to take anything for granted. There is a lot of quality in this side, and I hope to learn a thing or two from experienced players like Ambrosini and Del Piero. There is plenty of competition here and I will have to prove myself deserving."
LSA Supremo Giovanni Cobolli Gigli was not present at the press conference but was seen leaving the training ground later on. On the topic of further transfers he had only a few words to say; 'We're happy with the squad we have at our disposal. Marcello [Lippi] feels ready for the new season, and preperations are well underway. I don't forsee any further changes in personnel but you can never say never!'
Despite Gigli's claims that there is always the possibility of further deals, we'd be truly stunned to see any more changes to the Turin club in this window. Yet we've been wrong before!

Ricardo Costa signed ...
As Rafa FC continue to strengthen their squad for a D3 title challenge and a promotion push, the experienced 26 year old Portuguese International, Ricardo Costa has been signed for a fee rumored to be around the 3m price range. Costa, who has 6 caps for his country, recently made that break through, and is looking to hold his place in the team. He was called up to Portugal's 2006 World Cup squad.
Costa joins Rafa FC knowing he will have to fight for his place at Rafa FC as they already have 3 other center backs, fellow countryman and highly rated 29 year old, Fernando Meira, 26 year old Nigerian international Joseph Yobo and recently signed 27 year old Czech international, Radoslav Kovac. Costa has stated though he is determined to prove that he is world-class defender and hopes to stay at Rafa FC for a number of seasons to come.

...as another player is shown the door
After news came in that 26 year old Portugal international, Ricardo Costa had been signed by Rafa FC, Rafa FC manager, Rafael Benitez decided to axe one of his players, the player shown the door was the 31 year old Columbian International, Mario Yepes. Yepes who had just been signed this window by Benitez has been swiftly shown the door, and has been released on a free transfer. Rumors are linking the veteran defender to a move to fellow D3 club Dial Square FC.

Hours after announcing the signing of Ricardo Costa and the departure of Mario Yepes, Rafa FC were once again active in the transfer market, signing 28 year old Turkish winger Yıldıray Baştürk in exchange for Frenchman, Sidney Govou. Sidney Govou who notched up a few assists in the 2nd half of the season for Rafa FC never seemed to settle down at New Anfield and has been offloaded to fellow D3 club Valjuan C de F to push through the deal.

In an interview concerning Francesco Totti's international retirement, the subject took a different turn, focusing on those expected to make the ste up to the national side rather than those leaving it. The Italy coach had the following to say about LSA Originale? and Clockwork Orange starlets:
“I think the breakout stars of this season will come from the Under-21 side. People like Giampaolo Pazzini, Riccardo Montolivo, Antonio Nocerino, Domenico Criscito, Alessandro Rosina and Raffaele Palladino.”
Surely a boost to morale for those youngsters to know that the first team coach has such faith in them.

Assuncao will strengthen the midfield even more and be first choice for set-pieces. To make way for him, George Boateng was released. Bammers has said that he is still hoping to add to his team before the season begins with Sylvain Wiltord rumoured to be arriving imminently, while Danny Murphy and Havard Nordveit are likely to leave.

Dalglish On Opening Fixture...
http://www.leaguemanagers.com/media/dalglish_kenny_r.jpg
The fixtures for the 07/08 season have been released, and RealVerdadera.com were delighted to speak to Verdadera leading man, Kenny Dalglish, about this season's schedule and their opening game with Prohawks.
1. We are delighted you could join us Kenny! Firstly, do you feel the squad is ready for the new season? Or is there still transfer business to attend to before you kick off?
- I think we are more than ready for kick off, I know the players are excited to start the new campaign and so am I. I am very happy with the squad I have at my finger tips now, we have the depth required to survive in a high division and I strongly believe we can cause an upset in the title fight this year. However, if a player I think can improve the team comes available then yes! I am always interested.
2. You say 'Real could cause an upset', does this mean after all the changes you have made, you now think that maybe promotion is an achievable target? What other teams will be challenging, and who do you regard as favourites?
- We aren't here just to make up the numbers, We wouldn't be in this situation if I didn't think we had the ability to succeed in this division. Yes, it is a step up from the third division, but as I have said, we are ready. I think we know who the strong teams of this league are, you have Merseyside USA, desperately unlucky missing out on promotion last season. Clockwork Orange, we have seen, are a strong outfit and have added a few players to their squad ready for next season. Finally, I think Asgard United are an extremely good team and will almost certainly be looking near the top end come the end of the season. We are in this bracket, with these sort of clubs.
3. Exciting, it looks like it will be an extremely interesting campaign for all involved. Your opening opponents, Prohawks, do you know much about them.
- We have never played them, but, we have done our research. They have a strong squad, and they are another strong Division 2 side. They have an experienced side with players like Giggs, Figo, Emerson, Vieria. We know where the danger can be inflicted from, and I think we know how we can exploit their weaknesses. However, like us, they will be doing the same or similar preperations and I am sure, they will come at us full throttle. It is very important to start the season with a win, it sets expectations for the rest of the year.
4. Finally, everyone is asking the question, who will take the captain's armband now Alberto Aquilani has left Real Verdadera?
- The coaching team and myself are talking about who we think can take on the responsibility of leading the team out. I believe it is important for every player to be able to lead to a certain extent. Having strong personalities brings determination and driving force. We have a few candidates, but as soon as we know, we will inform you.
Thanks for speaking to us Kenny! Good luck this season.
Thankyou very much, or should I say, Gracias Senor.
Looking foward to our game Wellzy, good luck.

Argentinian, Almiron lands in Turin...
http://i.eurosport.com/2006/09/25/309776-1438135-458-238.jpg
Argentinian silences the opposition...
Christian Brocchi said an emotional goodbye to Turin as he completed his £5.5m move to 'Spanish side' Real Verdadera. Brocchi was brought to LSA almost immediately upon the arrival of Marcello Lippi, although he spent only half a season with the club, a great rapport grew with the fans. He was a first choice midfielder in his time, and played an important role in the turn around of the clubs fortunes as the heartbeat of the midfield.
With Aquilani, Ambrosini, Marchisio left to hold the fort in the centre of midfield Lippi might have been looking to bring in reinforcements. Lippi explained to the crowd of reporters that Brocchi had been pleased with the move, and that he had left the club with many friends.
'Christian is a fantastic player, and one that I wasn't looking to sell, however when the offer came in it was sizeable. I discussed the deal with Christian, and made it clear that he was still more than welcome here, but I told him if the deal interested him the club wouldn't stand in the way.'
The club allowed Brocchi to move on, yet announced the arrival of replacements the very next day. Sergio Almiron signed for a fee around £2.5m on a three year deal, having impressed for Empoli the midfielder brings physical presence and a deal of creativity to the club. At twenty-six years of age the player is heading into the best years of his career and he will hope he can add a Division 3 title to his trophy cabinet.

Mahamadou battles against his former club...
Mahamadou Diarra, who has played for clubs like Lyon, Real Madrid and Newton Heath is causing quite a stir amongst LSA fans. The Mali international arives on a one year loan deal, and is fully expected to return to Newton Heath at the end of that period. Despite this, fans have had his name printed on their shirts in their droves.
The midfielder is expected to play an important role in the clubs drive for promotion, having won the French league and the Spanish La Liga he certainly comes with a winning pedigree. He will be most likely be employed to protect the back four, in a similar role to that recently vacated by Christian Brocchi's departure.
It wasn't all smiles though, as Diarra's arrival was part of a deal taking David Rozehnal from LSA to Newton Heath permanently. Diarra's loan move was however only a part of the deal for Rozehnal, which also sees £5m landing in the LSA coffers. There's been large scale changes at LSA Originale? this window, and it's expected that there will be at least one further signing to provide cover for the squad.

Vedran Corluka signs for LSA...
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/8711/corlukaht3.jpg
Corluka shuts out Frank Lampard, against England...
Croatian centre-back Vedran Corluka has become the latest signing at LSA Originale?, at only twenty-one he isn't the most experienced centre-back at the club but makes up for that with raw talent. The youngster already has a handful of caps for his national side, and has proved himself against top sides such as England.
Corluka is one of the few centre-backs tall enough to replace the towering Rozehnal, matching the Czech's 191cm height. Despite his obvious advantage in the air, that's not the only side to his game, a well rounded youngster who is comfortable on the ball allowing him to play at either centre-back or on the right side of the defence.
When asked about the Croatian in an interview experienced centre-back Dario Dainelli had only good things to say about his new team-mate. "I feel this is a great step for the club, having watched Corluka his talent is plainly evident. I was particularly impressed with his reading of the game, especially for one quite so young."
Dainelli continued to make some predictions; "I'm yet to train with him, as the deal has only recently been finalised, however it's a prospect I'm relishing. I only hope that the older lads can help him make the most of his potential, that myself, Kakha and Cris in particular can pass on our experience and help him progress.'

The Don laughs off comments from Merseyside USA manager...
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/sports/2006-07/12/xin_15070312190205590883.jpg
MarcelloLippi enjoys a nice cigar...
Marcello Lippi has won virtually every top prize the game has to offer, including five Serie A titles, the Champion's League and most recently winning the World Cup with Italy. Perhaps it's this pedigree that allows him to brush off the comments of Steve Nicol. Nicol allegedly quipped that Diarra was unhappy with his loan move to LSA yet Lippi only laughed at the allegations.
"Nicol claims his 'sources' tell him? Who are his sources? Let's hope he doesn't pay them for they seem awfully mis-informed," laughs Lippi as he relaxes in a comfortable chair. "I personally discussed the move with Mahamadou, and we explained what we'll be doing here and his role in the team. He may well be playing in a lower division, yet his teammates are of a truly high calibre."
"Mahamadou has yet to speak to the public about the move, so I'm intrigued to hear of who his sources are? Perhaps jealousy is rearing it's ugly head over in Merseyside? Nicol would be best to look to his own new signings and ensure they're settling in well, and I, I assure him, will look to my own interests!" Winking to the press, Lippi departed the conference room.
Seemingly unperturbed by the comments Lippi appears to be well in control, and happy with his transfer window's progress thus far.

Alexis Sanchez celebrates a superb goal...
It is understood from the information coming out of LSA Originale? that Chilean wonderkid Alexis Sanchez is available for loan. It is thought that LSA head coach Marcello Lippi is interested in sending his hot prospect out on loan in order for him to garner more first team experience.
LSA supremo, Giovanni Cobolli Gigli, had a few words on the issue on his way into the office. Speaking to the journalists gathered around the Turin training complex; "Alexis is a terrific talent, and we are looking to do everything to aid in his development."
"We fully believe he'll be a top player for us, he's quick, confident on the ball and can comfortably beat players. Couple that with his astounding teamwork, especially for one so young, and we have a player with all the characteristics to succeed at the highest level."
"We believe it's in the best interest of all parties concerned to loan Alexis to another club, where he can improve and gain experience. While on loan I expect him to do great things, there are plenty of clubs in the league that would benefit greatly from having a player of such calibre in their squad."

There's hard work to do but I'm sure we'll do well. The fans are calm and we will make them feel proud once more. In the coming weeks I will be making a number of changes and laying the foundations for something special. ''
As well as Juventus and Parma, Ranieri has also coached Italian clubs Cagliari, Napoli and Fiorentina. He also had two spells with Spanish side Valencia as well as coaching Atletico Madrid.
Ranieri was sitting alongside his £7.5million summer signing Mateja Kežman. The striker made his name with Partizan Belgrade before joining PSV in 2000 for a four-year spell in which he scored 105 goals in 122 games. In the 2002-03 season, Kezman scored 35 goals in 33 games which was the highest total in Holland since Marco van Basten's 37 for Ajax in 1987.
Kežman added: "When I was with PSV Eindhoven, I had some great seasons and scored a lot of goals. "I showed what I am worth and I want to carry on showing that wherever I am."

Cruz in action for his country
Prolific Argentine Julio Cruz has been made Guus Hiddink's 9th Summer signing as The Blues agreed a deal with Valjuan C de F. The agreement will take Chelsea flop Louis Saha in the opposite direction. Hiddink stated "I am over the moon with the capture of Julio (Cruz), we've been chasing him for a good while now and with the change of managers at Valjuan, Quique (Sánchez Flores) obviously felt it was the right time to let Cruz go, and in return he has got a speedy, well-rounded professional in Saha." Hiddink went on to praise the new signing; "In Julio, we have a player who will be willing to work hard for the team, dominate in the air and add a new dimension to the team in general."
Cruz, who is becoming a regular feature in the National side, led the goal-scoring charts for a large amount of last season and sensationally preferred to Brazilian power-house Adriano at Inter. When asked on how he feels about signing for The Blues, Cruz said: "I'm ecstatic about a move to such a fantastic, well-supported club. Obviously, I am very happy to play at a higher level and with all due respect to my old club, to play with a higher calibre of footballers which will only benefit me".

OTHER NEWS
In other news, Merseyside winger Freddie Ljunberg completed his second move of the summer in a cut-price bargain deal of 2 million pounds to AFC Chelsea. Guus Hiddink claimed he would bring "great experience to the midfield and add more competition for places". For such a low price, it was surely an offer the Dutch manager couldn't pass up.

Hargreaves stands as referee gives him a caution.
Owen Hargreaves and John Arne Riise entered the Verdadera training ground, Madera de los Mel, for the first time after putting pen to paper both on four year deals. Speculation on the "mega deal" was churning around the spanish isle and the two clubs, Real Verdadera and Merseyside USA, confirmed suspicions last week as they announced the deal which has gone through. Both Hargreaves and Riise come to Menorca with large pedigrees and they are both deemed to play an important role for El Kop this season.
The deal confirmed the surprising transfer of new signings David Pizarro, Luis Garcia and Gareth Barry. Pizarro and Barry seemed to have fit in at the spanish club well but obviously not well enough according to Kenny Dalglish. La Gazetta can only presume that this deal was well thought over as it seemed strange for Verdadera to bring in two defensive midfielders at the same time, Pizarro joined closely followed by Cristian Brocchi. All seems clear now, that the actual intentions of the Verdadera staff was to lure in Owen Hargreaves. The other two players going the opposite direction, Luis Garcia and Gareth Barry, is easy to understand. Riise will step into the position Barry left and it seems Garcia was surplus to requirements.
The new signings, as stated, come with great reputations. Hargreaves a defensive midfielder who has a good eye for a tackle and can hold a midfield in shape. John Arne Riise, is an attacking left back who enjoyed seven seasons on Merseyside turf at Liverpool. Riise's trademark is his hammer of a left foot, on plenty of occasions stunning goal keepers with breath taking long range shots.
Dalglish now feels comfortable with the midfield he has at his disposal, "I am happy, we have a very strong central midfield now, with many options. Owen Hargreaves, Juninho, Cristian Brocchi and Lucas Leiva are top quality making it a good problem for me to have to choose who starts. I doubt very much if we will make any further changes in this department, nor will we on the attacking front." Dalglish also hinted that the only area for improvement would be a centre back, to complete four top players there.
"I am happy to be a part of this squad and linking up what is almost a complete Liverpool defence with myself, Steve Finnan and Daniel Agger, is something which attracted me. It was a decision for me I simply couldn't turn down." Riise expressed his delight whilst bearing the number six shirt at his opening press conference..

Juninho, A self controlled legend of the game, to lead the Verdadera XI.
A long, anxious wait for all the Real Verdadera captain candidates has come to an end as Kenny Dalglish announced who will be the new captain, the predecessor of Alberto Aquilani. "It is to my delight, to name the new captain of Real Verdadera, Juninho Pernambucano!" Dalglish announced with an abrupt cheer from the viewing press, flashes of the camera, and heavy claps. "I believe Juninho has all the right attributes to take on this role and to lead Verdadera into a bright future. He is level headed, respected and what I feel, a natural leader. Of course, it was a tough decision as we have so many leaders at the club, Fernando Torres, David Beckham and more. However this is the decision the coaching team and I have come to and we are very pleased with it." Dalglish finished, leaving his chair prompting Juninho to come forward.
Juninho spoke with pride, "It is a great day for me to have the honour of becoming the new captain of what is a great club. I have only just signed, but it feels like I have been here a long time. The spirit throughout the squad is extremely high and we can't wait to get going now, we have had a successful pre-season which has been a lot of fun. The team and fans have backed me and for that I am extremely grateful, I want to repay them now by bringing success to the team, Venido en Verdadera." Which is translated to "Come on Verdadera" in English.
As Juninho is captain, the vice-captaincy has been handed to the young yet experienced, Daniel Agger. Last season, Agger won player of the season last year closely followed by Alberto Aquilani and Jermaine Pennant. Agger will want to impress the Verdadera faithful for a second year running..

Birindelli capatains Juventus...
Birindelli signed for LSA Originale? only one month ago, and despite appearing in a handful of friendly matches the veteran fullback has moved to Seattlewangsa FC. Birindelli who has played at the top level for many years will take a lot of experience with him to the Division 3 new-boys, which should prove invaluable as they look to get used to life in the division.
Reports coming from all sides indicate an ammicable split, with the staff at LSA having nothing but good words for Birindelli. In a press conference arranged to announce his departure, Birindelli was obviously torn in his move: "I have a lot of friends here, and Marcello [Lippi] has really welcomed me. There are a lot of people here that I will miss after the move, but I am sure I will see them again and I have to do what is right for my career. I'm not getting any younger and I need to be playing as much football as I can at this stage."
Marcello Lippi was keen to add: "The was always a place for Alessandro here, because he's a very good player and has a wealth of experience to off. When the bid came in for him, we discussing the possibilities, unfortunately he felt that he would get more first team opportunities moving to Seattlewangsa. I have a great deal of respect for Alessandro, and the bid equalled the fee we had paid for him, so I promised him that the decision was his to make."
"Everyone here at LSA which Alessandro the best in his endeavours, and hope that he knows that his presence will be surely missed," Lippi was keen to emphasize. It seems that the call of first team opportunities was too strong for Birindelli who would have to have competed with Grygera and Corluka at LSA. Birindelli is expected to play a vital role for Seattlewangsa and his experience and versatility will truly be a blessing for new manager Fabio Capello, who knows Birindelli from his time at Juventus.

Derbyshire joins LSA, but will have to wait for a debut...

Derbyshire delighted with yet another goal for Blackburn...
England starlet Matt Derbyshire has signed a three year contract with LSA Originale?, the youngster has four caps for England at U21 level and has two international goals to his name. He also has plenty of first team experience at club level, having impressed while on loan, the youngster was given his chance by Blackburn boss Mark Hughes. In his first season he impressed scoring nine goals, from thirty games in all competitions, however over half of those appearances were made as a substitute making the tally even more impressive.
Derbyshire has drawn the attention of more managers than just Lippi however, 'Boris Johnson' of Norway United is also a fan. Just moments after having signed the agreement, a loan offer was sent to LSA. Norway United would pay £1m for Matt Derbyshire's services for that season alone, effectively reducing the £3m fee paid by LSA for his signature. The Division 2 experience should stand Derbyshire in good stead for a return to LSA Originale?, especially if they succeed in their promotion bid.
"We discussed the possibility of a loan move before Matthew had agreed to join us, I don't like to sign a player on false pretences, so we discussed his future fully," Lippi explains. "He was quite happy with the arrangement and impressed with the facilities we have here. He's certainly a player with a grand future ahead of him."

Ivan Rakitić Swiss Starlet Joins MBV
http://www.tiscali.de/sport/images/rakitic-schalke-fans.jpg
Rakitić first step into the major European limelight
Ivan Rakitić at 19 years of age is one of the most exciting prospects of the future of football. He's an attack minded midfielder that has an eye for goal. He is able to strike a ball with power and accuracy equally with either feet, and has the dribbling ability to beat a defender with ease. He is known for his long distance strikes, of which one was voted goal of the season last season at FC Basel. The goal was reminiscent to that of Zinedine Zidane's famous volley in the Champions League final against Bayer Leverkusen (click here to see the goal (http://youtube.com/watch?v=x8Jyr__hN2g)). The Swiss born Croat also has the football intelligence to pick out killer passes and can pull the strings in midfield. At such a young age, Rakitić already has the poise and composure not to panic when confronted by defenders or goalkeepers.
http://www.fussball.ch/fussball_img/article/110103-ra.jpg
Rakitić celebrates yet another wonder goal
On his debut at FC Schalke 04, Ivan Rakitić came off the bench to save his team from defeat at the hands of last season's Bundesliga champions, Stuttgart, by scoring the equaliser and securing his team a point. It was an excellent début goal, which showed the teenager has the trickery to beat defenders and the accuracy and composure to slot away the ball into the back of the net (click here to see the goal (http://youtube.com/watch?v=vL1fLtwLGaM)).
It had been reported that Ivan Rakitić's new manager, Arsene Wenger, is looking to loan out the Swiss starlet in order to give him first team experience. The video below will give his potentially new suitors of what they can expect from him in the forthcoming season.

Buffon: "We're ready to fight..."

Buffon directs traffic...
LSA Originale? have completed their final friendly of the pre-season period against Foca Juniors. The Turinese club have had an extremely busy transfer window, the club have spent a net figure of around £11m. Besides splashing around in the transfer market, the club have played numerous friendlies and had a fantastic run in La Tournoi de Mjolner, losing out only to the Division 1 champions.
The pre-season was a truly encouraging period for a club that was not so long ago tipped to finish bottom of the third tier. The side put on some great perfomances in the friendlies and the new players appear to be gelling well with each other, but it was in Le Tournoi de Mjolner that they impressed the most. On their way to the semi-finals the club beat two Division 2 teams and competed well with a further three clubs from higher divisions.
The players are, however, not letting the start go to their head. Number one goalkeeper and record transfer signing, Gianluigi Buffon has called for the team to remain completely focused. "We had a great pre-season, but that's over now! Now the hard work begins, this is where it counts, we can't afford to let ourselves get caried away," said the Italy international. "Thankfully, Marcello is great and keeping us grounded. We want to get to the next level, but we know it will be difficult and we're ready to fight."

Peru striker Claudio Pizarro - Will be playing for FC Cali next season....
Lately, Gerard Houlliér and chairman Cali have been very busy re-building the Squad. We got a chance to talk to FC Cali's chairman for the first time ever - Cali. He said, when asked "The fans have heard a lot of rumours about Luca Toni leaving, even though he just signed. Are these rumours true ?", "Well, let's just say, that I have lately realized that we cannot just rely on one player if we wan't sucess. We (By that he ment Him and Houlliér) need to re-build the squad, and make the squad depth much, much better". He proved this as later on on that night, Luca Toni departed with FC Cali. We didn't get a chance to have a word with Toni beforehand, which is a massive shame. Very shortly after Toni had left, after not even playing one competitive Football Match for Houlliér's side, we heard that the team had signed 28 year old Peru striker Claudio Pizarro on a permanent. Also, that wasn't it. We have also signed Wonderkid Yannick Djalo on a full season loan. We also got a lot of cash from the deal. Reported to be around £23 million. So, Toni's departure surely cannot be too bad, after-all ?
Of course, Houlliér and Cali didn't stop there. No, shortly after they signed Brazilian Left Back/Left Midfielder Fabio Aurelio for £7.5 million. They were also reported to be strongly linked with Porteguese Central defender Ze Castro, and that was put to rest as the classy 24 year old signed on a permanent from LSA Originale. Then, a few days afterwards, we heard that Turkish attack minded Midfielder Emre Belozoglu had gone on loan to Rambo's side, which see's experienced Spaniard Michael Salgado come the other way. Still, Houlliér insisted that he hadn't finished his spending yet. That, was proven as the same day he said that, he signed Yossi Benayoun on loan until the end of the season, with an option of a permanent move. That deal also see's Brazilian Youngster Carlos Alberto move the other way. Also, FC Cali managed to get £5m and future prospect Curtis Davies off of Real Verdada, in a deal which see's Luis Garcia head in the opposite direction. Denny Landzaat also signed, for £3m. Then shortly after, which was seemed to be Houlliér and Cali's last signings, they signed Nikola Zigic and Julio Arca, reported to be at around £10m.
From Speculation, to more Speculation...

http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/3653/p1arsenalft7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
The past few weeks have some what been a nightmare for Lehmann. Pre-season hasn't been the best preperation for the keeper as he has made a handful of mistakes and yesterdays friendly(England 1-2 Germany) didn't help his cause. With Fabiański waiting for his chance, there are rumours he maybe dropped for the first game of the season, but Flores was quick to dismiss the rumours.
"Jens hasn't had the best start to the season but I have faith in him and he will be starting this weekend."
The start of the season is nearly upun us and Flores is in good mood and is very confident about his sides chances of promotion.
"My squad is in good shape and I think we're in contention for promotion along with other teams, but I don't want the fans to get ahead of themselves, we'll have to take it one game at a time.

Hiddink: Owen For Golden Boot
http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/1404/006630ek7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Owen's grabs his first of many to come against Clockwork Orange
AFC Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink has praised Michael Owen after they're hard-fought draw with Clockwork Orange FC, with the English striker bagging Chelsea's only goal of the game with a well-taken volley on the stroke of half-time following a beautiful cross by Swedish veteran Ljunberg.
The Chelsea manager was full of compliments as Owen produced a whole-hearted, scintillating display where he proved a threat through-out. Hiddink stated: "Well Michael (Owen) is simply at the top of his game during pre-season and has looked dangerous every minute he is on the pitch - we hope he can carry this form into the next game. He was unlucky not to get three or four goals today, Carson was superb to deny him on occassions and it's exciting times for Owen ahead, I'm sure."
When asked on how many goals he expects Owen to bag this season, he replied confidently: "Without a doubt, he'll be one of the top scorers in the league. Not to put pressure on the lad, but I'd be suprised if he doesn't reach atleast the 15 mark".
The Clockwork Orange game was an exciting end-to-end battle which left fans stunned there were only 2 goals in the game. Clockwork's midfield dominated in the first half but to no prevail as Hiddink's defence proved too strong and snuffed out any sniff of a goal-threat. As the game grew on, so did The Blues' possession and soon enough Owen was on the score-sheet when a clever ball in from Freddie Ljunberg found the feet of the striker at the backpost; who hammered the ball in from six yards, leaving Carson helpless.
The second half was a much more exciting encounter, where David Suazo's pace troubled Carvahlo at every opportunity, and chances were coming in thick and thin - Frey made several wonderful saves against skillful midfield Edu. Though Frey was kept busy, Barry's team were constantly with counter-attacks, with Cruz and Owen linking up well on most occassions creating chances between the pair; Owen got unlucky with a curling shot from the edge of the area which hit the crossbar and bounced back into play.
Eventually, Barry's team's pressure was too much for Chelsea's strong defence and Suazo equalised on the 72nd minute with a powerful blast from David Suazo was parried into the net by Sebastian Frey, who should have done better considering his calibre. Both teams left the field with a well-deserved point, and the fans were happy with such an exciting game topped off with a solid performance by the referee and honest intentions by both teams..

Prohawks Vs Real Verdadera
http://www.bbc.co.uk/liverpool/content/images/2007/03/05/barca_009_470x336.jpg
It was an exciting opening day for Division 2's newest addition, last season's third tier champions went away to last year's first division dismissal's, Fantasy League giants, Prohawks.
Las Aguilas started with what is expected as one of their strongest line ups, the Menorcans played a balanced 4-4-2 on their travels. The spectacular signing of Fernando Torres started up front partnering Australian new recruit, Mark Viduka. The midfield was set out as expected, David Beckham holding the right flank, Ryan Babel on the left, used to torture the Prohawk's right back, and the newly formed partnership of skipper Juninho and Owen Hargreaves in midfield. Agger and Navarro were Canizares' first wall of defense, accompanied by Steve Finnan and John Arne Riise as full backs.
Prohawks set out with a similar 4-4-2, an experienced side boasted with legends such as, Luis Figo, Emerson, Patrick Vieira and Ryan Giggs. Jens Lehmann got the late call for the first team, was he about to undo his pre-season blunders?
Real Verdadera looked in full throttle in the opening ten minutes as they looked for the opening goal, both Fernando Torres and Mark Viduka looking very sharp. However, Nicholas Anelka gave the Spaniard's an agonising blow just inside the first half hour calmly slotting past a stranded Santiago Canizares. After starting so fast and strongly, conceding now could possibly have been an early knockout for Dalglish's side. Refusing to give in, only a few minutes later Fernando Torres burst through Prohawks back line with some thundering pace, and he wasn't to be stopped. With a cheeky chip over Lehmann's head, the young spaniard had drew level with the home runners.
El Nino's goal seemed a stinging blow which the Prohawk's couldn't shake off quick enough. A second attempt from Torres deflected off Coloccini's back thigh and into the path of Juninho, the skipper hammered into the roof of the net from twenty yards, a trademark goal for the Brazilian.
The second half began, Prohawks seemed to have found their way back into the game. Obviously the half time chat had done the trick in waking the home team up out of their gloom. It was Prohawks' loan off Verdadera who provided the equaliser, Alexander Kerzhakov managed to scramble the ball over the line as Las Aguilas failed to clear.
In the final thirty minutes, Real Verdadera began to assert their dominance, Juninho and Hargreaves taking control of the midfield and spraying the ball wide gave Verdadera opportunities to get a winner but it didn't seem to come. Substitute Inzaghi came the closest only to be denied by Jens Lehmann. Finally a breakthrough came. John Arne Riise hit from thirty yards a bullet which flew under the body of Lehmann, who in all honesty didn't have a clue. Surely their was no way back into the game for Prohawks now?
The final ten minutes saw the home team tired, the experience legs of Giggs and Emerson seemed to have no more energy left in them. Ryan Babel came close to killing the game but went the wrong side of the netting. The game was already won though in an action packed fixture. Dalglish very much delighted with his side's display but did point out that the conceded goals could well have been avoided.
Real Verdadera: Canizares; Finnan, Navarro, Agger, Riise; Beckham, Hargreaves, Juninho (C), Babel; Viduka, Torres..

The game kicked off well for Planet Express they kept majority of the possession. The ball was kept up the field as Arouna Kone was showing he was no push over by troubling MBV’s defense with his pace and flair. Then just before the end of the first half, in the 42nd minute Chevanton had put MBV back in the game with a neat cool little finish into the bottom left corner beating Neimi to it.
End of the first half 1-1.
The game kicked off both teams looking determined to get the goal to lead.
No chances were really created in the second half it was just some wayward shooting by both teams out side the area.

Planet Express then went gung ho attacking at MBV trying to get the equalizer, but MBV went ultra defensive trying to keep this lead. NY Calcio's Soccer News
As the Transfer period closed and teams moving there squads line up for the season. NY Calcio's Tony Calzone was very worried about what will happen in his sides first season. "I am very nevous, but who wouldn't be. I just want to thank the team for constantly working hard during training which always lightens the load." - said Tony. With players coming in and out of NY Calcio, Calzone is looking to succeed. Though the task looks impossible with the oh so many great sides he has to face. He believes in magic.
Round up Of Matchday 1-
The season opener has taken place where NY Calcio has faced Bammer05's Dial Square FC and picked up a win in there first league game ever. "Well done to the boys. This is why we had so many Friendlies during pre-season, to look at every angle of our own team. Its payed off and more good things should come." - said Tony Calzone.
During the transfer period Calzone agreed to trade Eduardo da Silva to D1 side Racing Club Avenido for talented Sobis, but will keep Eduardo on loan for half season. This left some fans scratching there heads after the the first game as Eduardo netted the only goal of the match.

Dial Square get off to a losing start
http://www.sport365.ro/_files/Image/thumbnails/feeder/CarloAncelotti.jpg
Dial Square have not got off to the greatest start, after a home loss against NY Calcio. In a frantic first-half, neither team were able to grab a goal, thanks to some inspired keeping at both ends from Marco Amelia and Andres Palop. However, despite the lack of goals, the first half was very well-fought and interesting with a very entertainig battle between the two midfields.
The second half was starting to look like it would be exactly the same as the first with fantastic football, but no goals. This was until MOTM Sol Campbell picked up the ball after a Dial Square corner, starting a counter-attack, which finished with Eduardo sneaking ahead of Baumann, to score from Barnetta's low cross, at the near post. After the goal Dial Square looked distraught. However, captain Willy Sagnol, was able to rally his team and for a short time it looked as if they might just get back into it, sending wave after wave of attacks at the NY Calcio defence with Raul Tamudo hitting both posts and a brilliant thirty yard effort from Marcos Assuncao being parried away by Palop. However, Calcio's defence, superbly marshalled by Campbell, were able to hold out for a win.
Afterwards, Carlo Ancelotti had this to say, "I couldn't have asked for anymore from the team today, they were devoted and commited. Well done to NY Calcio today, they certainly look like they are going to be in the mix-up for a promotion place at the end of the season."
And the matches aren't getting any easier with an away match against Dragonfly's MBV Arkestra up next.

FOCA'S FIRST POINT!

Ollie watches on.
Foca Juniors began their season this weekend, playing Rafa FC away and coming away with a sterling and hard-earned point. Joris Mathijsen, the appointed Foca captain, levelled after a goal just minutes earlier from John Utaka.
The game had begun steadily with both teams opening up cagey, understandably not wanting to concede an early goal. The lively Elano Blumer broke this trend however, with a fine through ball which Afonso Alves failed to convert after a comfortable save by the suprise inclusion Christian Abbiati.
This seemingly shook Foca up and they took they initiative with some neat passing leading Drenthe into an attacking position Yobo on several occassions. On the 34th minute one of these advances led Drenthe to skip past Basturk and swing a deep cross in and onto Bianchi's head which was was spectacularly tipped wide by Landreau.
On the stroke of half-time a deep corner by Rafa FC was missed by everyone and Kader Keita collected and broke with intense speed and acceleration. Hurdling a couple challenges Keita got into the box and squared it for the on-rushing Barton, but Keita's cross was a touch to hard and Barton's slide was futile as the ball flashed between him and the gaping net.
After half-time Rafa FC were bright and on the offensive. Several good efforts were blocked resolutely. Elano was lively again looking to create opportunities whenever on the ball. A lofted ball by him on the hour mark caught Glen Johnson napping and John Utaka found himself in the clear as his past left Johnson flagging behind and he fired an unstoppable effort past Abbiati.
Joris Mathijsen faced a tough task to rally the troops, but from the restart, Foca held the ball well and Arteta took a speculative effort which stung the fingers of Landreau and was pushed over.

Captian's duty.
Royston Drenthe took the resulting corner from the right which he played to the near post and was flicked by Maduro and Mathijsen was on-hand at the back-post to nod him the equaliser just three minutes after going behind.
A long range effort from Bodmer took a deflection which fooled Abbiati, but luckily skipped wide. The lively Drenthe swung another cross in later which was headed away, but only as far as Joey Barton who volleyed the ball back towards goal, only to see the ball shake the upright.
The wrapped up Foca's onlsaught, however a last minute effort from Phil Jagielka left Abbiati rooted to the spot, thankfully for him however the ball whistled centi-metres past the post.
Ian Holloway spoke of his delight at getting a point as feeling like "An Aussie who just found a crate of Fosters." And lavished praise on his players grit to come back from a goal so quickly against a strong side.
Next up for Juniors is a second away trip of the season in the Big Apple against NY Calcio. They come off the back of an impressive 1-0 away win against Dial Square, however Foca will be looking to inflict a first defeat of the season upon them.

FC Planet Express 1 - 3 MBV Arkestra
(Arouna Kone 19; Chevanton 42; Gudjohnsen 79; Simic o.g. 90+1)
I was very happy with the players' performance from the goalkeeper, all the way through the team to the forwards. They showed good team spirit and resilience to come back from a goal down. We battled very hard to get back into the game to gain all three points.
We knew it would be very hard to defend against Planet Express' front three, but we were still disappointed to have let in a goal so early. It meant we had to commit more men forward, leaving us more vulnerable at the back, but our defenders showed good mental strength and composure to hold off Planet's attackers for the rest of the match.

Debutantes Chevanton and Gudjohnsen celebrate their goals to give MBV 3 points, while Stekelenburg shows his delight after saving Veron's penalty.
I was very happy with the new players. JC (Chevanton) showed excellent pace and awareness to get on the end of Andreas' cross. Rakitic and Palacio caused Planet Express' defence a lot of problems with their dribbling and passing abilities. Eidur came on for Rodrigo during the second half and we changed tactics, which proved successful. Eidur linked up well with Ivan to put us ahead in the 79th minute. Another addition that impressed was Maarten Stekelenburg, who made an excellent penalty save late into the game and prevented Express from scoring the equaliser. He was great throughout the match and was not surprised that Maarten was voted man of the match. He will be a great replacement when Oliver Kahn finally decides to retire.
I was asked after the game about our chances of promotion. It will of course be difficult, but I have faith in my players and coaching staff that we will succeed in gaining promotion. And if we are a bit lucky, we could even win the league. Our main competitor, LSA Originale? has had an excellent start to the season, and it already an uphill battle. We will, however, try our hardest to prevent the league being a one horse race. I am confident we will be up there this season in the title race.

Despite an emphatic opening result this Saturday against Prohawks, Real Verdadera boss has spoken out that the squad cannot afford to be up on cloud nine.
Las Aguilas started their second division campaign with a great display at the Vicente Calderon, debutants Torres, Juninho and Riise picked up the goals for the Menorcans in an exciting game. However Kenny Dalglish, although very happy with how his team performed, picked out minor errors which need to be thwarted if his team were to mount a serious promotion challenge.
"Yes I am happy, but as I said after the match, there were a few needless errors which could have been avoided. Fortunately, we got three goals, but we did let in two. I'm not hindering our performance, it was excellent, but not perfect. If we are to challenge this year, in some tight fisted matches, we will need to be perfect, we must keep our feet on the ground."
Verdadera play their second game of the season on home turf against AFC Chelsea this weekend, of course not the easiest first home fixture. Chelsea boast a lot of top talent, such as Guti, Ricardo Carvalho and Michael Owen. The blue's also have one of the best managers in the world in Guus Hiddink, very successful on national and club level. "It will be a tough game for us, but we are ready for them, we will train hard, we think we know what to expect, they will come out strong. It is important for us to get three points this weekend, it would be the best possible start." Verdadera assistant manager, Pako Ayestaran told El Pais, the leading spanish media.
We can only expect a very good match this weekend, it is time to forget the celebrations of last weekend and focus on the game ahead..
Prohawks off to worst possible start
Prohawks first game of the season got off to a bad start as they were on the recieving end of 3-2 home defeat. To make matters worse there are rumours about the players loosing confidence in the mangers abilities. All is not well in at Vicente Calderon and it's not the best time to be playing such a formidable team such as Asgård Utd.
"This wasn't the start I was expecting, to start off the new season with a home defeat is unacceptable. If we want to get promoted our home record has to be immaculate. There are some positives to take from the match, Anelka and Kerzhakov linked well together and scored two great goals. Hopefully they are injury free throughout the season"
An away trip to Asgård Utd is the next fixture on the agenda and it's by no means an easy fixture. Asgård Utd made some good signings in the summer and are now the odds on favourite not only for promotion but also the D2 Championship and Flores is well aware of the qualities Asgård Utd have at their disposal.
"Clough has a great team and they will be difficult to beat, they have great players such as Berbatov and Diego, but so do we and we will try our best not to come out empty handed."
FC Cali vs Norway United
Matchday - 1
http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/6358/claudiopizarrofk8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Preview:
FC Cali's manager, Gerard Houllier, will attempt to win all three points in this tough Division 2 match against Norway United. The newly nicknamed, "California Club", are set to debut a few of their new summer signings. Ex-Newton Heath striker, Claudio Pizarro is set to star alongside new loan signing, Wayne Rooney. This attack has been used by Houllier in the past two friendly's.
New rock-solid defender and Serbian Giant, Curtis Davies and Nikola Zigic are set to start on the bench. With brand new Dutch signing Denny Landzaat, set to play in the middle of the park alongside Portuguese defensive-midfielder, Costinha. Captian Pavel Nedved will surely start, as will David James. The back-four is yet to be fully named, although we do know however, that Ze Castro and Fabio Aurelio will feature in this match from the start.
Match Report:
FC Cali kicked off the game rather poorly. As Norway United's striker Miroslav Klose had two easy chances in the first 10 minutes, which he should of placed in the back of the net. Shortly after, after James punched away an in-swinging corner, Maniche hit it on the volley only for the FC Cali keeper to make a wonderful save.
The first goal came around the 35th minute mark. As Gary Neville played a wonderful ball to Matthew Taylor, who then followed with a deep cross for Miroslav Klose, who got his head to the ball, no chance for James, as he picked the ball out of the back of the net. Just after that chance, Schneider, who left FC Cali in the Summer, had a long-ranged shot that stung the hands of David James.
FC Cali got their first chance of the half around the 44th minute mark, with Wayne Rooney driving forward and threading a through ball to Claudio Pizarro, who struck it just over. The Half time whistle wen't, with FC Cali behind.
The second half started rather like the first, with Norway United rather dominating posession. Around the 62nd minute mark, FC Cali had another chance, as Fabio Aurelio had a free-kick. It hit the wall, only to drop to Yossi Benayoun, who used his skill to get past Taylor, and to get a shot in. Saved. Then, FC Cali scored a goal after about 68 minutes, after a great corner by Benayoun as Ibanez got his head to the ball, it rebounded off of Serbian Nemanja Vidic, as his fellow country man Nikola Zigic slotted home a half volley strike, just after 8 minutes of being on the field.
After this goal, FC Cali seemed to maintain a bit more possesion, although in all honestly, it was a midfield battle kind of match. The final whistle wen't, as the FC Cali side and Houllier wen't in surely the happier team. FC Cali were impressive on the counter attack today, although Norway United had the most possesion.
FC Cali: James; Salgado (Davies 85), Ibanez, Ze Castro, Aurelio; Benayoun, Landzaat, Costinha, Nedved; Rooney, Pizarro (Zigic 60)
