I don't think there are any real stand-out groups with 4 great teams, this year. They look fairly evenly-matched. You can see a few notable matches lined up already: Arsenal vs. Inter; Chelsea vs. Lazio. The latter looks the most tasty with Veron's return to Lazio and all.

United and Chelsea got a better draw than arsenal. Wouldnt like to travel to Russia twice in the same stage, expecially if your dennis bergkamp

I think Man Utd have the easiest group, they shouldn't have any problems progressing!

I can see Man Utd getting maximum points in their group!

yes, Man U's group looks quite easy for them. Don't forget Crespo will return to Lazio aswell, him being a former player and all. Inter's draw looks good, two quite easy teams and a good team, hopefully we'll get maximum points at home, so it won't matter when we have to travel far...

And is it just me, or did Juve and Real Madrid get really easy draws?

I dont think anyone got an easy group because just think if the teams werent good enough they wouldnt be in the champions league.so anything could happen you never know.

Well u got a point, but thats like saying there are no easy games in ne league or competition caus if they werent gd enough they wouldnt b there. But u have to accpet that other leagues in europe just arent as gd and i think utd will get through easily.
As for the other draws arsenal do have it very hard and there could b an early exit for them. I cant c chelsea having much of a problem getting through, but celtic may find it hard, i just dont think they are strong enough to compete at the highest level.
And really it is very unlikely we would have got 4 great teams in one group simply due to the fact of the seeding rules and the rules that teams from the same country cant b drawn against each other.

Bergkamp must be chuffed to be playing Inter so early on (the club he left for us, in '95) with this being his last season at Arsenal. Winning the competition would be a greater asset, I'm sure, but that might be a little beyond us.

If the opening match, Ajax at Milan, is anything like the encounter the two had during their quarter-final second leg, we'll have one awesome opening night on our hands.

I'm really feeling for Partizan at the moment. They have a tough group. Imagine what a win at home to Real would do for their confidence though, eh? They have some really dedicated fans that make a lot of noise. Who knows? Maybe that could spur them on. It's unlikely, but stranger things have happened in football.

Meanwhile, Lazio's CE seems confident:

We respect the Czech team and the Turkish side, who we played last season and I don't think Lazio will have any problems qualifying.

I'd like to see Rangers make it through but I don't really see it happening. They will probably lose to Panathinaikos to ruin it for them.

i believe that most of the "big" teams will not face problems in qualifying to the next round but for the second place of each group i think that there are many teams that have good chances.I don't really believe that Real Madrid get an easy draw...Dep. Coruna is going to face a lot of problems in qualifying as well
I wish to Man.U lot of goals against Panathinaikos!!! :-)
Finally i believe (hope!) that Olympiacos will qualify.

RETOUR!!!! i've looked at you're predictions and u all seemed to ave written Real Sociedad off i reckon they will win the group or at the very least push Juventus all the way. Look at their players they ave like Nihat who i know for a fact was the man that united bid £16 million for in the summer. They also ave Kovacevic who is decent, Karpin, de pedro and Xabi Alonso who Real madrid put in a £20 million offer for them and they are one of the most exciting teams to watch as well. So to write them of is stupid as they are better than depor and ave and easier group!!! Monaco are shit now that nonda is out for the season.

i think that aresnal may go out. They always look dodgey in the champs league and i doubt they will get points in either ukraine or russia. I feel that dynamo kiev could cause an upset. And i thought that shakar donetesk an other ukraine team had gone through but they aint in any group. can anyone expand on that for me?

I believe Shakhtyor Donetsk (or whichever spelling you want to use) lost out to Lokomotiv Moscow in the final qualifying round.

might help with the scoreline.

I have a few worries too, actually, concerning the away games against Kiev and Lokomotiv. I don't think we'll struggle qualifying but those games will most probably be tough. I'm remembering 98 when we lost to Kiev 3-1 and in 2000 against Lokomotiv where we were defeated 4-1, if I remember correctly. But, to be fair, it was terribly cold there. We play them earlier in the year this time around (September as opposed to late November).

Right now, though, I'm more interested in Vieri not telling us to "Shut the f*ck up" at Highbury :(

He's such a bad-ass. :)
