Florentino Perez has been voted in as president of Real Madrid by a landslide margin, winning 94.25% of the 30,151 votes cast.
"Today Galaxy FC has won and the future has won," added Perez.
"I know what challenges I face after this victory and I take on this responsibility in the knowledge that the only limits of Galaxy are the dreams of it members."

Galaxy FC have completed their first ever signing in history. 20-year-old Portuguese dazzler Cristiano Ronaldo arrived from Norway United, while the deal also saw Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf heading the other way in a direct swap deal.
A delighted Ronaldo exclaimed: 'I'm excited to be joining a club as big as Galaxy.'
'I feel this can only improve my career, playing with top players in top competitions like the World Champions League and I can't wait to meet up with the team.'
Manager Jose Mourinho is thrilled to have his first ever signing, Crissy Ronaldo on board after fierce competition for his signature.

Galaxy FC have confirmed Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho as their new manager.
"Fantasy League Football is a big passion for me, and Galaxy FC was a perfect choice for me. Galaxy represents a fantastic challenge for me. It is a great club with a world-class squad of players," the 41-year-old Mourinho said.
I like working with small squads. I will have 15 outfield players, plus goalkeepers, because this is the ideal number for the specific work we want to do."
Mourinho has also requested for cash to craft out a younger squad. 'I would prefer to have more young players, and a lower squad average age.' Rumours have it that Cristiano Ronaldo might be heading to the Bernabeu during the transfer window.

Galaxy FC and Helsinki Dragons have agreed terms for the transfer of hot 21-year-old Spanish striker Fernando Torres.
The club were "delighted" to confirm that terms had been agreed.
"I also had offers from Italian clubs, but going to Galaxy is an interesting challenge in my career and I'm glad to join them," young Torres added.
Galaxy are also on the verge of signing Helsinki Dragons full-back Paulo Ferreira, in a deal which will see Lauren heading the other way.

Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard has been handed the captain's armband by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho commented, 'Steve is a great leader on and off the pitch. He leads by example and his consistently fantastic displays over the last half of the season has made this decision (of making him captain) easy.'
Teammates applauded the move. Midfield partner Joe Cole said, 'Stevie possesses leadership qualities. He's easily the best candidate for the position.' Winger Damien Duff agreed too. 'We couldn't have found a more suitable captain.'

Galaxy president Florentino Perez has a good relationship with his Bel Air counterpart and the pair are negotiating a deal which would see them having first refusal on each other clubs' players.
In recent weeks, Perez has spoken several times to Bel Air about the availability of midfielder Patrick Vieira. Bel Air, but the talks have continued and led to a possible partnership agreement.
Vieira's teammates Owen and Stam are also interesting Galaxy, while Helguera is linked with a move to Bel Air.
Galaxy has also been told they have been give first option in Gudjohnsen.
The good links established between the two clubs have seen Bel Air adding the trio of Real Madrid players Zidane, Raul and Solari to their squad, while Galaxy have gotten duo Duff and Deco.
'Our good relations have lead to several win-win situations between the two great clubs. It goes to show the importance of what a good partnership can do.' Said Perez of Galaxy FC.

Galaxy FC have completed the signing of Irish winger Damien Duff and Portugese playmaker Deco from Bel Air FC.
Going the other way to Bel Air FC was Real Madrid's Raul and Solari. Zidane was also sent there on a season's loan, with Galaxy receiving an extra £40m.
Duff said: 'Joining Galaxy is a big step in my career.'
'I enjoy playing with superstars in exciting leagues like the Fantasy League. I can't wait to meet up with the team!' Deco exclaimed.
Jose Mourinho was overjoyed with the capture of Duff, his former clubmate at Chelsea. 'He's the perfect wing forward for a 4-3-3 formation. With him on the left and Ronaldo on the right, Galaxy can be unstoppable.'
'These signings has not been easy to negotiate for and I hope the risk taken would prove a success' he said.

Galaxy FC manager Jose Mourinho has hinted that the club would be using a fast-paced 4-3-3 formation for the upcoming season, just as he had used for his previous club Chelsea.
Jose commented, '4-3-3 works very well for the quick players that we have. That way, we can counterattack with numbers moving forward, as well as convert to a 4-5-1 formation when defending.'
'The key men will be Duff and Cristiano Ronaldo. They have the pace, dribbling skills, crossing abilities and the knowledge to cut infield to put in a good cross. Few teams are blessed with these kind of talent, and we want to use them to great effect.'
Damien Duff, Mourinho's former clubmate at Chelsea, joined from Bel Air FC in a trade involving Santi Solari. Cristiano Ronaldo arrived from Norway United with Seedorf heading the other way.

Dida was unveiled as the World's most expensive goalkeeper by Galaxy FC today. The Brazilian international's protracted transfer from J-Hill finally came to an end when Galaxy forked out a record £30million.
Dida said: 'I'm delighted to be joining one of the biggest clubs in the world. I'm really looking forward to the new season and I can't wait to run out in a Galaxy shirt at the Santiago Bernabeu for my first home game.'
'It was an easy decision. Opportunities like this do not come around that often. I don't want to sit around thinking about what I didn't do in my career.'
Said club President Perez: 'I am really pleased Dida has agreed to come to Galaxy, he is a world-class goalkeeper with the experience of having played at the very highest level of the game, for club and country.'
AC Milan 'keeper Dida has been best known for his spectacular shot-stopping in penalty situations, most notably against Juventus in the 2002-03 Champions League final, when he saved three times to win Milan the trophy.
Mourinho: No One Can Afford Lampard
Galaxy manager Jose Mourinho has laughed off suggestions that other clubs have any chance of signing England midfielder Frank Lampard, who has been recently linked with a host of top clubs.
"No club has enough money to pay for Lampard,” Mourinho told Spanish daily Marca.
Galaxy President Florentino Perez also acknowledged that Lampard moving elsewhere was highly improbable.
"Lampard is a very complete midfield player, but he is a fundamental man for Galaxy, after having a great campaign for Chelsea, and it is necessary to be realistic,” he said.
Frank Lampard has already been named Barclays Player of the Year and Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers' Association. He scored 12 goals in the league and was chosen by the Barclays Panel which includes representatives from football’s governing bodies as well as the media and supporters.

Getting one of the best right-backs in the world was not easy at all for Galaxy, having had numerous offers turned down, until finally Helsinki Dragons FC accepted an offer of Deco and Lauren for Ferreira.
Galaxy manager Jose Mourinho was delighted at the signing.
25-year-old Ferreira has already tasted Champions League and UEFA Cup success. He possesses the versatility to play at both left-back and right-back. His reunion with Mourinho came as a pleasant surprise.
Said Ferreira: 'The negotiations have been going on for weeks, but we've finally reached an agreement, and I would be able to play for Galaxy under my favourite manager again next season.'

He has transferred from Delia's Barmy, with £6million going the other way, as well as Ledley King on loan.
'This is a good deal for the team.' Said Galaxy manager Jose Mourinho. 'Wayne would fit it at left-back because of Silvestre's requests to play in central defence, and Solari's deperture to Bel Air FC.'

Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard has won the Champions League as the captain of Liverpool.
Liverpool had a bad start to the game when they fell behind in the first minute to Maldini's volley and Crespo added two more before the break. It looked all over for the Reds.
But an inspirational half-time team talk by Galaxy manager Jose Mourinho turned things around. Gerrard scored early in the second half and his teammates scored twice to equalise.
It was down to spot-kicks after an empty extra time period. It was 2-0 Liverpool by the 4th kick, and in the end, 'keeper Dudek denied Shevchenko to hand Liverpool, and Gerrard, the greatest trophy of all.
It was an unforgettable night for the Reds skipper.
'I hope to win the World Champions League with Galaxy as well.' Gerrard added.

Galaxy President Florentino Perez has announced that the club will be sharing their newly-built 150,000-seat stadium.
Perez met up with Bel Air President Philip Banks to celebrate his birthday at the weekend.
After the feast, they discussed about FL issues and decided to share the magnificent Galaxy Stadium, also known as the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
This is due to the friendly rivalry between the two clubs, which have seen numerous players being loaned, swapped and sold between the two clubs.
Real Madrid and French superstar Zinedine Zidane, who has 5 clubmates and 4 fellow countrymen in total on both clubs, commented: 'Our club's respective presidents have done well in agreeing to this decision. It makes us all feel at home with buddies by our sides, and we can look forward to derbies in the future!'
~ Opening Game Abandoned!!! ~
150,000 fans gathered at the Galaxy Stadium eagerly awaiting the start to Galaxy FC's new season. Cheers and noise filled the stadium, with home fans all dressed in Galaxy's new kit to mark the grand occasion.
Galaxy was playing Umbrella FC in their opening match. Referee Anders Frisk, after coming out of retirement, lead the two teams out onto the pitch. Galaxy captain Steven Gerrard shook hands with opposite skipper Michael Ballack, both previously with each other's clubs.
But as soon the the match was about to begin, referee Frisk blew the whistle and ended the game, awarding a 3-0 win to Umbrella FC. He explained to Gerrard that due to his team's inability to submit their teamsheet, they forfeit the match 3-0.
'What's the big deal about us forgetting to submit our team sheet?' Raged Galaxy President Florentino Perez.
Galaxy FC will be making a formal complaint about this issue.

Galaxy FC recorded a comfortable 3-0 win away at the Finnair stadium at the weekend.
Pacey winger Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Steven Gerrard played him through for the Portuguese to lob a shot into the far top corner.
Former Galaxy playmaker Deco then had a good opportunity to equalize, but Ivan Helguera sprung across in the nick of time, deflecting his shot, which appeared destined for the net, out of play.
Half time of an enjoyable game, despite the intimidating chants of the Helsinki Dragons fans all around the stadium.

- Drogba calmed down by Frisk -
Helguera and Didier Drogba were cautioned by referee Merk early in the second half for a needless argument.
Galaxy were dominating though, and 13 minutes after half time, Roy Makaay superbly controlled a long ball from Lilian Thuram and volleyed it beyond the advancing Gianluigi Buffon.
And on 72 minutes, he scored again with a powerful tight angle finish to make it 3-0.

The first official home game of the season saw Galaxy draw 1-1 with fierce rivals Umbrella at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
The game was a re-arranged fixture of the first game, which was abandoned by referee Frisk due the Galaxy not submitting a team sheet.
Steven Gerrard and Michael Ballack, both former players of the other club, lead out their teams as captains.
The game started fairly balanced. On 28 minutes, Paulo Ferreira’s long pass to Roy Makaay was nodded back into the 'D' and Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard rifled into the low corner beyond Frey’s full stretch.

The explosive match was getting hotter by the minute, with Ballack and Francesco Totti arguing with the ref over not awarding Umbrella a free kick for a controversial handball incident by Wayne Bridge.
All was going well for Galaxy, but they conceded a goal against the run of play in the second half. 20 minutes after half time, Italian forward Antonio Cassano burst down the right wing and swung a cross in for Totti to head them level. 1-1.
With 4 minutes remaining, Helguera climbed above everyone else in the box, but headed Damien Duff’s corner just inches over.

Galaxy playmaker Zinedine Zidane, on loan at Bel Air FC this season, has spoken of his desire to play for Galaxy again.
'I miss my fellow Frenchmen Thuram and Silvestre, and Real Madrid clubmate Ivan Helguera. Playing behind Roy Makaay was also exciting. We played together well in pre-season. I'm doing fine at Bel Air, but it would be nice to play with them again some time in the future.'

Galaxy skipper Steven Gerrard captained his team to a 2-0 away win at the Millenium Stadium.
Boca started well with 55% of ball possession in the opening 20 minutes, and striker Wayne Rooney should have scored with his long-range low rocket shot, which was palmed away by Dida - a wonder save.
On 33 minutes, from Frank Lampard's threaded pass, Gerrard's surge into the box was halted when Cannavaro tugged him back. No arguments followed, and Lampard sent a belter to Cech's left to beat the Czech goalkeeper.
Both sides were making good progress from then, in their attempts to score. Larsson's diving header hit the crossbar in the 71st minute, and from the resulting counterattack, Crisitano Ronaldo's chip dipped just over the bar.
The win was sealed in the 4th minute of added time with Makaay's late finish. Winger Duff played a low cross to Makaay, whose shot beat Cech to make it 2-0.

Galaxy had to come back from two goals down to claw back a point against Castellon FC at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Castellon were playing smooth-flowing attack football in the first half, in form of Ronaldinho, Robinho and Eto'o. Galaxy found it hard to get into the game, and went a goal behind on 27 minutes when Eto'o's crisp one-two with Ronaldinho was poked into the net.
Galaxy found some rhythm after the scare, and in particular wing forward Damien Duff, who produced surging runs past Puyol on the left to cross for some squandered opportunities.
But things got worse for Galaxy. Nine minutes after the break, Ronaldinho shimmied and produced a thunderbolt which rebounded off the crossbar and in.
The win looked wrapped up for Castellon, until a free kick was conceded, 27 metres from goal. Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to curl his shot perfectly into the top near post.
Galaxy's spirit showed when Duff's corner to Thuram's head was touched back to Frank Lampard, and he drove a low shot through the crowd of players in the bow into the goal to equalise for Galaxy.

~ Speculation Over Striker Search ~
It's an open secret that Galaxy FC would like to sign a striker in mid-season to play alongside Makaay, given Inzaghi's injuries and Torres' potential departure.
Rumours have it that Galaxy are targeting city rivals Bel Air's forward Fernando Morientes, clubmate with Galaxy President Florentino Perez and defender Iven Helguera.
Former Chelsea hitman Hernan Crespo is also another player Galaxy manager Jose Mourinho would love to sign, but it remains to see if he would be persuaded to move away from Dragons FC.
Chelsea frontman Eidur Gudjohnsen is another transfer target, but the high transfer fee his club is demanding could well put off Galaxy from submitting their offer.
There will probably be no big-money signing this mid-season, Mourinho also hinted.

Galaxy succumbed to their third draw in four games at the weekend, playing out a pulsating 2-2 tie with highly-rated J-Hill FC.
With 65,000 fans turning out to catch the fiercely combatted match at the Stadio Delle Alpi stadium in Turin, the atmosphere was totally electric.
J-Hill started the match comfortably with more possession of the ball, playing their settled passing game and ocassionally creating chances with long balls to Ruud van Nistelrooy.
On 26 minutes though, Damien Duff's corner was headed into the net by Cristiano Ronaldo, putting Galaxy one goal up.
Waves of attacks started coming furiously towards the Galaxy goal, until suddenly the Spaniard Joaquin equalised. From a goalmouth scramble, the ball rolled out to the edge of the area, and he carefully placed it beyond the 'keeper.
J-Hill regained confidence after getting back level before the break and scored early into the second half. Nedved's through pass found van Nistelrooy free and clear, although replays show that the Dutchman was a foot offside. However the referee did not spot the error and awarded J-Hill a second goal after van Nistelrooy's easy stroke-in.
Galaxy had a chance to get back into the match midway of the second half, when Duff feinted a shot on a free kick, instead laying the ball off for Frank Lampard's fierce strike, which rebounded of the crossbar to safety.
Chances after chances fell to either side after that, until finally Galaxy found the net. Roy Makaay's nod from another Duff corner bounced delightfully for Paulo Ferreira to lash in a low volley through a crowd of players and into the net, for his first goal for the club.
And a 2-2 draw was the outcome.

~ Perez: No Mid-Season Big-Money Signings ~
Galaxy club President Florentino Perez has hinted to the press that there will be no big spending in mid-season.
'We're doing fine in the league with two wins and three draws from five games, so there's no urgent need to buy another Galacfico yet.'
'As Jose (Mourinho) said, a striker is our priority now. There will be little or no changes made to the midfield and defence.'
It has always been a tradition for the club to remain low in the short mid-season transfer window.
'We will consider all offers received, but there wouldn't be too many changes made at this stage of the season.'
Meanwhile he also commented on letting regular substitues play more regularly by loaning them out. 'Some of our midfielders and strikers are looking to starting more matches. We will grant them a loan out if the price offered is right,' he said.

Galaxy and Norway United played out a sensational match at the Santiago Bernabeu, a high-scoring game which ended all square at 3-3.
It was attack-attack-attack right from the whistle. On 27 minutes, Galaxy captain Steven Gerrard found Cristiano Ronaldo free down the right, and the pacey winger cut inside Riise and rammed home left-footed past Casillas to make it 1-0.
Mourinho the happer coach, but not for long. Just two minutes later, Seedorf's chipped long pass was taken onto the chest by a towering Ibrahimovic and the Swede finished confidently. 1-1.
However, 11 minutes into the second half, Norway went ahead. Another Seedorf long pass found Kaka' on the edge of the area via Zlatan's header, and the Brazilian playmaker shot low beyond Dida's reach.
Roy Makaay brought the game level again after he met a Damien Duff swinging cross after the pacey Irishman had beaten Seedorf and Gary Neville down the right flank. Casillas couldn't keep out the headed ball, and the match was equal again, at 2-2.
Galaxy had another scare in the 79th minute when Giggs started a sublime one-two pass with Owen to split the defence, and finished top into the left corner of the goal.
Giggs thought he'd won Norway the game on the night, until they conceded a free kick. With the ball 33 metres from goal, Duff dumied over it to allow Gerrard to thunder it through a stunned defence and into the goal, via the right post. Definitely a candidate for goal of the season.
And there went the final whistle of an absorbing match. 3-3 the final scoreline - a night to remember.

Galaxy finally collected a third win at their 7th attempt in the league this season, with a 2-1 away victory at Brazil FC.
Brazil started with an explosion, Ronaldo striking the crossbar after just 2 minutes. Rivaldo's left footed volley put the rebound inches over the bar.
Roberto Carlos' long range free kick found the side net, a very good attempt which got the crowd celebrating a 'goal'.
Galaxy did go ahead on the night however. Steven Gerrard swung a cross in from Duff's short corner, and Makaay climbed above Roque Junior and Roberto Carlos to point a header in.
A blow for the Brazilian side who had been dominating the game, but they didn't show signs of giving up. 9 minutes into the second half, Adriano shot from range into the top corner of the net, leaving the whole stadium stunned with awe.
The Inter striker's good work was undone by right-back Belletti 14 minutes from the end, who slid in illegally to knock Duff to the ground. Referee Urs Meier pointed to the spot for Frank Lampard to fire into the top corner.
Ronaldo had a chance to bring the score level deep into stoppage time with his dazzling pacey dribble but his bullet shot rebounded off the post to safety. Too little too late, and at long last a league win for the Galaxy guys.

Galaxy succumbed to their first defeat of the league season against a confident-looking GWP side.
Not even the 143,782 strong crowd at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium could supply enough support for the home team, who was finally beaten after seven games to the top-of-the-table side GWP, who has now won their last eight games on trot.
First blood to the away team when Trezeguet's through header found French partner Thierry Henry to sweep the ball into the net.
Confidence immediately filled GWP, and they got a chance soon after but Michael Essien shot straight at Dida.
Half time was upon the game after Lampard's long range volley as inches off target.
Jose Mourinho's half time team talk seemed to have worked when Galaxy emerged with an increased amount of ball possession in the second half, coupled with a few decent chances.
Damien Duff found the woodwork after cutting inside Friedrich, while captain Steven Gerrard also got a low shot skimming past the left post. Between those efforts, Figo's surprising shot whizzed past the post, missing by a whisker.
There was no mistake from the Liverpool skipper though as minutes later, he found the target after a goalmouth scramble was pushed out to him to flash a shot through the crowd into the goal. Gerrard's second goal of the campaign, scored in the 64th minute.
Galaxy were dreaming of a win until 10 minutes later, Lyon midfielder Essien latched on to Jose Antonio Reyes' hanging cross to head in what turned out to be the winner.
But not until Galaxy had a flurry of chances. First, Makaay shot wide when put through on goal. Then Ivan Helguera headed a Duff corner just over. And in stoppage time full-back Wayne Bridge was denied yet again by an outstretched Hildebrand.
It simply wasn't Galaxy's night.

Czech Republic international striker Milan Baros was re-bought by Galaxy, in a swap invloving Filippo Inzaghi and £20m cash.
Baros made a quick return to former club Galaxy FC following reports that he was homesick and felt under-used at Dragons FC, having started just four of the nine games so far.
His return gives the Galaxy forward department a huge boost, after Roy Makaay started as a lone striker in seven games so far, reducing Inzaghi, Hasselbaink and Fernando Torres to warm the bench.
'Milan is a suitable striker for us. He'll work well alongside Roy (Makaay) and offer us the option of playing a 4-4-2 formation which we previously couldn't field,' Said Galaxy President Florentino Perez.
Baros has been issued the number 15 shirt he wore for the Czech Republic at Euro 2004 a year ago, when he was top scorer of the tornament. 'We hope Milan can rediscover the form he showed for the Czechs at Euro 2004,' said manager Jose Mourinho.

Galaxy FC have made their second signing of the mid-season transfer window with the acquisition of bright young prospect Miguel, beating off fierce competition from Barcelona, Liverpool, Juventus and Real Madrid.
The deal was struck after Galaxy raised their initial offer from £15m to £19m, while also sending Spanish striker Fernando Torres out to Manchester Buccanears for some match experience, the youngster having not started any of Galaxy's league games this season.
Club manager Jose Mourinho was clearly delighted with the deal. 'Miguel is one of the top right-backs in the world. His defending is excellent and he uses pace and dribbling skills in attack. He'll be a great backup for Paulo Ferreira.'
The attacking right-back is sure to provide another weapon in attack when whizzing down the right wing for Galaxy, and has worked very well with Cristiano Ronaldo at Euro 2004.
Miguel is likely to be receiving the number 13 shirt he wore for Portugal, despite it now being under the ownership of Frenchman Mikael Silvestre.

Galaxy FC ventured into the winter mid-season transfer window with a home draw against Bel Air FC, the first ever derby game to be witnessed in the Fantasy League.
Galaxy were the 'away' team at their own stadium, which was being shared with the Bel Air team.
Over 150,000 spectators turned out at the celebration as both sets of fans were treated to a fun match, which finished all square at 1-1.
Zidane, Solari, Raul and Duff were up against their former clubs.
Both teams had an eye on the winter break and didn't work too hard on the night. First chance resulted in the opening goal for Andriy Shevchenko, who darted across the backline to hook the ball into the far corner of the net.
The half time period saw food and beverages being given out free to the fans who turned up, as music and performances were being played and staged.
In the second half, Roy Makaay finished off a fine passing move to make it 1-1 on the night. Simple celebration from the Dutchman as he scored his 6th league goal of the tornament.
And smiles all round at the final whistle.

Five draws from nine games wasn't exactly the start Jose Mourinho wanted. A quiet 1-1 draw on the opening day of the season was followed by another 1-1 draw, a pair of 2-2 ties and a candidate for match of the season, a 3-3 draw with Norway Utd at the Bernabeu.
The 8th league game also saw Galaxy slump to their first defeat of the season at the hands of GWP (Reyes), who have swept aside everything before them, impressively winning the full nine of their first nine league games.
On the bright side though, there were three Galaxy wins earnt at their opponent's ground, the best one being a 3-0 thrashing of Dragons at the Finnair Stadium.

Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso made a short stopover at Galaxy yesterday after arriving from J-Hill FC.
Alonso was part of the deal involving Steven Gerrard's departure to J-Hill. He was officially unveiled as a Galaxy player. He would go on to stay at the club... for only three days.
The Liverpool Champions League winner spent three memorable days at Galaxy before moving onto GWP FC.
During his 'vacation', Alonso was taken on a tour around the city by Liverpool clubmate Milan Baros. He got to meet up with his Galaxy teammates, including Ivan Helguera and Frank Lampard. He joined in the training sessions with the team, and even signed autographs for the fans.
'Maybe one day I'll join a magnificent club like Galaxy,' Xabi said, smiling from ear to ear. 'But I'm moving on to GWP, which is also a great club, and I'll like to wish Galaxy the best for the upcoming second-half season. It's been a memorable stay at the club, despite it being only for three days.'
Galaxy will officially unveil a new player within the next week, widely believed to be purchase from GWP worth the value of Xabi Alonso plus £30m.

'Lamps had scored five times in nine matches and was playing much better than me. Honestly I didn't stand a chance.'
'People have always commented that they find Lamps and me too similar to play together. And you could tell Frank was (Galaxy boss Jose) Mourinho's favourite. There wasn't any space left for me in the team.'

Galaxy would allow Steven Gerrard and Lilian Thuram to join J-Hill FC, in exchange for Xabi Alonso and Rio Ferdinand.
There had been doubts surrounding Gerrard's future at the club following a series of inconsistent displays in recent weeks, looking increasing unsettled alongside a calm and composed midfield of Lampard and Helguera.
His fate was sealed when club manager Jose Mourinho openly declared, 'I don't think Stevie has been playing well enough to remain in the team. At Galaxy we only want players who perform consistently well, and Stevie does not fit that category.'
On Monday, club President Florentino Perez delightedly told the Press, 'We have finally managed to tempt Rio Ferdinand away from J-Hill. Rio's a world-class defender and we have been tracking him for ages. His decision and desire to join the Galaxy 'Galacficos' makes this transfer an instant success.'

Italian and AC Milan playmaker Andrea Pirlo has signed a five-year contract with Galaxy, after moving from GWP FC.
The versatile and outrageously talented midfielder was bought for a hefty sum of £30million plus Liverpool's Xabi Alonso.
After joining rivals AC Milan in 2001, Pirlo proved himself as a world-class performer, winning both the Champions League and Coppa Italia in 2003, after being successfully converted by Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti into a deep-lying playmaker.
Though a little lightweight for the anchor role, Pirlo is a wonderful passer and is capable of delivering dangerous set-pieces.
Galaxy President Florentino Perez described Pirlo as a 'crowdpleaser' and a 'real joy to watch'.
Meanwhile manager Jose Mourinho could not hide his delight at sealing the switch. 'Andrea will compliment Frank (Lampard) like no other midfield partnership has done before. His defensive abilities and dangerous pinpoint through balls and long passes will definitely be a threat to the opponents. The decision will be made to whether Pirlo will now take the free kicks for Galaxy, and share the corner kick duties with winger Damien Duff. Rumours also suggest he might take over Frank Lampard as the main penalty taker.

Galaxy's talented youngsters Joe Cole and Fernando Torres have been loaned out to Norway United and Manchester Buccanears.
England and Chelsea midfield trickster Joe Cole, who is seen as a precious talent by most, has only started two league games so far for Galaxy this season. He now gets his chance to prove himself alongside players like Clarence Seedorf, a former Galaxy player, and Michael Owen.
'(President Florentino) Perez wanted some extra cash and I wanted more match experience. I didn't want to warm the bench again for the second half of the season. Hence we made the decision to let me join Norway United until the end of this season. I'd like to wish Galaxy the best for the coming second half of the season,' said Joe Cole.
Fernando Torres has been in scintillating form for both Spain and club Athletico Madrid, also taking part in Euro 2004. He was dumbfounded at the manager's decision not to start him at all so far this season.
'I'm puzzled at the manager's decisions not to play me. But at the same time I respect his decision, and I appreciate club's choice to loan me to another club, where I'll gain more experience and play more matches. Think it's time I said this guys - I'll be busy with exam preparation from now till November. Since I'll not be able to come on so often anymore, I'll be appealing to someone to take over my team for this season.
The manager I'm looking for someone who would enjoy the job. I'm not looking a for caretaker - one who'll take this as a chore or a burden. I'll like someone who can revise my formation before every game and update my team thread at least occasionally. One who will treat my team as his own.
The new manager would take charge of the team as a whole besides the transfers as the team is fine now. I have two preferred line-ups, but what formation to play will be entirely up to him. He will make the decisions from now on.
Anyone interested in taking the job please PM me. Preferrably an experienced D2 manager. A D1 manager would be fine if he gives up his team to someone else and not manage the two teams simultaneously. I'll like to find a new manager as soon as possible as I might not be on for long in future.

The formation currently used by Galaxy FC for FL matches will be the one posted by Muad in the D1 Formations thread. He will also represent the club in FL and WCL meetings in future. Figo10 will be very seldomly coming on for the next few months.

Galaxy President Florentino Perez has announced the arrival of the new club owner Muad'Dib for this season. He takes over from Figo10.
Perez is positive the 'new signing' will make a huge impact at the club. 'Muad'Dib is Division 2's current runner-up manager. With his vast managerial experience, I'm sure Galaxy will be among the cups come this season end.'
New Galaxy skipper Rio Ferdinand also commented: 'It's great to have a new manager with us, to add to the various new signings this season. I'm sure Muad'Dib will bring us new ideas, tactics and strategies. We'll all be looking forward to an improved second half season for Galaxy.'

Galaxy manager Jose Mourinho has indicated that their mid-season signing, the Italy and AC Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo, will take over the duty of taking the corners and free kicks for the team.
'Previously we did not have a true dead ball specialist in our team, but now we've bought a world-class one. Andrea's accuracy and crosses will bring us additional goals.' Said Mourinho.
The corner kick-taking job, which was previously alternated between Damien Duff and Crisitano Ronaldo, has been handed to Pirlo by Mourinho, after the playmaker displayed a series of fine pinpoint crosses for former club GWP FC and Italy ealier this season.
'It takes the stress off me and allows me to use my height in the box,' a relieved Cristiano Ronaldo chuckled.
Pirlo will also now take Galaxy's free kicks from any area of the pitch. Duff, also the previous taker, said: 'I feel comfortable leaving the job to someone better at set pieces than me. Andrea is a dead ball specialist and his awesome free kicks will be an additional source of goals for the team.'
However, the decision will be made as whether to hand Pirlo the responsibilities of converting from the spot. England and Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is currently Galaxy's first choice penalty taker.

Galaxy recorded a 1-0 away at FC Damascus in a mid-season friendly played to celebrate the takeover of Muad'Dib as club owner of Galaxy from Figo10.
The winning goal came in stoppage time from the head of Dutch striker Roy Makaay.
Skipper Frank Lampard led out the team, consisting of new signings Miguel, Andrea Pirlo, Milan Baros and Rio Ferdinand, onto the pitch. Paulo Ferreira shifted to left-back to allow Miguel a go on the other flank, while Ferdinand partnered Manchester United teammate Mikael Silvestre in the middle. Pirlo was alongside Lampard in midfield, and Baros upfront beside Makaay.
The midfield trio of Lampard, Helguera and Pirlo performed fantastically well in the first half, breaking up attacks, winning 50-50 balls and practising long-range shooting.
In the second half, Baros sped clear of the Damascus defence after being put through by Pirlo, only for an outstretched Valdes to deny him. Another chance fell to the Czech Republic international just four minutes later, but his header from Pirlos corner rebounded off the crossbar to safety.
Damascus conceded a free kick in the last 30 seconds of the game, from which Andrea Pirlo curled a cross into the area. Roy Makaay rose highest to meet it with a pinpoint header which sent the ball deflecting in off the left post. A glorious goal from the Galaxy striker, ending the historic friendly with something to remember.
Said manager Jose Mourinho in the post-match conference: 'It was an entertaining game which ended with a special goal. Our four new signings did well in their first test, as well as the backline. We'll be looking forward to more impressive displays from them when the season continues.'

Galaxy have completed the signing of Los Galacticos duo Patrice Evra and Tim Cahill on the transfer window deadline day.
The transfer was completed after Galaxy offered £23m plus defender Raul Bravo, who was acquired with £5m and Mido. A deal was also done prior to this when Galaxy sent Miguel on loan to Glasgow Arsenal in exchange for £3 plus Mido.
Following the signature, Evra was loaned back to Los Galacticos for a fee of £5m.
Austrailian-born 25-year-old Cahill was one of the stars of the Premiership 2004-05 season, starring for Everton in midfield and hitting 11 goals in all to guide them to the Champions League for the first time in their history. Galaxy manager Jose Mourinho commented: 'Tim will certainly be a huge part of our plans for next season. He performs consistently well, and it is this kind of quality players we are looking to add to our squad.'
French fullback Patrice Evra was also one of the phenomenons for France, Monaco and Los Galacticos, making intelligent quick overlapping dashes, as well as contributing in defence with countless top class performances. Galaxy simply could not afford to miss out on the hugely talented 24-year-old. 'He is one of the top left-backs in the world, and we feel extremely lucky to have captured his signature.' In new manager Muad'Dib's first game in charge, Galaxy strolled to a comfortable 4-0 thrashing of Vikings FC in the first game of the World Champions League (WCL) tournament.
There were debut goals for new signings Milan Baros and Andrea Pirlo, with new skipper Rio Ferdinand also making his debut.
In the second minute, Mikael Silvestre's long pass was headed back by Baros into the path of Frank Lampard, whose low volley rolled narrowly past the left post.
More possession for Galaxy following the chance, and the home team were rewarded in the 23rd minute when Ivan Helguera won the ball in midfield from Costinha and passed immediately to Pirlo. The Italian playmaker's impressive pinpoint through pass from midfield setting up Baros to round the goalkeeper and finish for his first goal for the club.
14 minutes later, the advantage was doubled when Roy Makaay poked the ball back to winger Damien Duff, the Irishman darting this way and that to confuse the defence, and his surprise quick shot found the net.
Galaxy fans were singing and enjoying the moment at half time, with more entertainment to be provided in the nest 45 minutes.
From Pirlo's inswinging corner, Silvestre planted a header inches away from the top corner, and Ivan Helguera followed suit with another Pirlo corner four minutes later.
Baros' surge into the box was ended illegally by Costinha in the 61st minute, referee Anders Frisk awarding a free kick to the right of the 'D'. Lampard stepped aside allowing Pirlo to thunder a shot into the net off the post with the outside of his boot, sending the fans into madness of joy. A debut goal for the free kick specialist, surely one to remember in a long time.
Frank Lampard added his name to the scoresheet as well, after finishing a neat passing move involving Cristiano Ronaldo, Makaay and Pirlo with ease. 4-0, a great start to their WCL adventure for Galaxy, surely more exciting matches to follow.

Galaxy earnt their second win of the season under new club owner and manager Muad'Dib with a 3-1 victory at Umbrella FC's Olimpiastadium in midweek.
A 1-1 draw was the result on the opening day of the season when the two sides met at the Bernabeu.
An fast-paced start to the game saw several chances came and went. Umbrella took the lead on 23 mintes when Schweinsteiger's chipped pass found Antonio Cassano, who broke through the backline and finished into the top corner for his fifth league goal of the season.
However, Galaxy drew level just seven minutes later. Andrea Pirlo's corner to the near post found Ivan Helguera. The defender's hopeful long distance header sensationally hit the target off the woodwork. His first goal for Galaxy, certainly worth the celebration.
In the second half, Dutchman Roy Makaay, who scored five times in Bayern's two opening games of the season, struck from close range in the 57th minute to give Galaxy the lead, following a goalmouth scramble after Cristiano Ronaldo beat Lahm and whipped a teasing low cross into the box.
The win was sealed seven minutes from time by winger Cristiano Ronaldo. Rio Ferdinand's long pass out of defence was met by a glancing header from Milan Baros, and the Portuguese gleefully latched on to it, darted past Jaap Stam and scored with an angled left foot drive.

A consecutive second league came in shape of a home victory over Helsinki Dragons at the Santiago Bernabeu at the weekend. Damien Duff's early opener and a pair from Roy Makaay topping off a 3-0 for Muad'Dib's men.
Deco, Lauren and Paulo Ferreira faced their former clubs.
It didn't take long fot Galaxy to go ahead as winger Duff collected Andrea Pirlo's precise pass, cut inside Zambrotta and finished well at the near post to add excitement into the match.
And just three minutes later, Galaxy's counterattack breakaway saw Makaay tapping in Crisitano Ronaldo's low cross.
But both teams were evenly matched after the early drama, with Dragons having 55% possession. Crespo's drive from distance fount the outside of the post, and the half time whistle was blown.
In the second half, Robert Pires nealy beat Dida with a curling shot, and Lampard tested Buffon with a wicked smack soon after, but the scoreline remained.

Since the last result update, Galaxy FC been playing inconsistently, taking only 5 points from a possible 12 in the league and tumbling out of the World Champions League tournament on the final matchday.
Galaxy now stand 3rd in the league table, 3 points behind current runner-up Castellon, with GWP FC having already clinched the trophy.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho hailed England's Frank Lampard as the best player in the world after his superb performance against Blackburn at Stamford Bridge.
The midfielder took his tally of goals to 100 with two against Rovers as Chelsea threw away a two-goal lead and still came back to end a difficult week on a high note with a 4-2 triumph.
Mourinho's side dropped their first points of the season in a 1-1 draw with Everton on Sunday but they remain nine points clear at the top of the Barclays Premiership thanks to a super show from Lampard - who is just three short of breaking David James' record of 159 consecutive games in the top flight.

Galaxy FC have officially signed a contract with D2 club Alicante FC to bring Spanish left-back Asier del Horno to the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, in exchange for the trio of Wayne Bridge, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and the newly signed Mauro Camoranesi.
That values the full-back at around £43m.

Galaxy have agreed to a huge deal with Manchester Buccanears FC to take Arjen Robben and Tomas Rosicky to the club, while sending Damien Duff, Joe Cole, Park Ji-Sung and £70m in the opposite direction.
Dutch winger Arjen Robben has been a long-term target for Galaxy ever since Cristiano Ronaldo arrived at the club and manager Jose Mourinho decided to go for a 4-3-3 formation.
Czech playmaker Tomas Rosicky has been performing well for previous club J-Hill FC last season, and Galaxy picked him up immediately after he had signed for Buccanears in a mega deal with J-Hill.
'We've paid big for the two players, but I'm certain that the investment we've made will be rewarded with great performances and cups,' said Mourinho, who was instrumental in persuading clubmate Arjen Robben to join Galaxy.

Czech playmaker Tomas Rosicky has signed for Galaxy, the club confirmed on Monday, after he was involved in a mega deal which also saw Joe Cole leaving for Buccanears FC.
The player said, 'It was a tough decision to leave J-Hill, the club I've played for the entire of last season, but I'm excited to be joining a club as big as Galaxy.'
Rosicky's transfer reunites him with Milan Baros, top scorer at Euro 2004 when the Czech Republic reached the semi-finals.
Manager Jose Mourinho also gave his opinion on the arrival. 'He was the best playmaker available in the market and we were very fortunate to sign him. I hope this is the start of great things to come next season.'
The Borussia Dortmund star faces stiff competition from Galaxy's number 10, Andrea Pirlo, in his attempt to make the starting line-up.

After a long season of chasing and tracking, Galaxy FC have finally signed Dutch wonderkid Arjen Robben from Manchester Buccanears FC, in a deal involving Irish winger Damien Duff going the other way.
The move reunites Robben with Chelsea teammates Lampard, Ferreira and del Horno, as well as Dutch players Sneijder and Makaay.

The most exciting winger of the current Dutch squad will add lightning pace and superb dribbling to Galaxy's flanks, as well as pinpoint crossing and curling free kicks.
Judging by how he single-handedly won numberous games for J-Hill FC last season, this signing looks a good one, especially with Cristiano Ronaldo dominating the other flank.
Galaxy have now got their fourth winger, which will provide them with an extra weapon in their bid to win the World Champions League tournament.
Duff's former number 11 shirt will be handed to Arjen Robben.
~ Torres Out, Trezeguet In ~
Galaxy FC have confirmed a deal between the club and Division 1 champions GWP FC on Monday, sending them Fernando Torres and receiving David Trezeguet and £20m in exchange.
The deal was signed after lengthy negotiations which started since mid-season, including a threat by GWP to 'pull the plug off the deal'.
Galaxy President Florentino Perez said on Monday, 'It's good that the transfer is finally complete, and we will move on from here to do any transfer we still need to do.'
French striker Trezeguet has not yet received a squad number, suggesting he might be on the move soon.
Other likely exits from the Galaxy squad are defender Ledley King and Danish forward Jon Dahl Tomasson. The latter has been linked with a £10m move to Castellon CF.
Meanwhile, Udinese's Brazilian defender Felipe, a free agent signed by Galaxy who can play both at left-back and centre-back, has joined Bel Air FC on half-season loan for £1m.

Merseyside-USA have agreed a deal to sell Greek centre-back Traianos Dellas to Galaxy at a £25m transfer fee.
The move came as a surprise for the Roma defender, who had been attracting interest for a host of top clubs, before Galaxy stepped in to sign the Euro 2004 Defender of the Tournament.
Just like he did at Euro 2004, marshalling the backline and leading Greece to European glory, Dellas will be hoping to command a regular spot in defence and repeat the feat for Galaxy next season.
This presents Galaxy's backline with more options, with central defenders Mikael Silvestre, Ivan Helguera and skipper Rio Ferdinand already in the ranks. Dellas gets more game time at centre-back if club manager Mourinho decides to play Spanish international Helguera in central midfield.
With Tottenham captain Ledley King seemingly exiting the club, Dellas takes over the number 18 jersey.

Bel Air FC confirmed on Tuesday that they will sell Ukrainian striker Andriy Shevchenko to Galaxy in a deal involving Zinedine Zidane, David Trezeguet and Walter Samuel heading the other way, with £20m also entering Galaxy's Bank Balance.
'We wish Sheva all the best in his new career at Galaxy and thank him for his fantastic contribution to the team's achievements in the last season,' said Bel Air clubmate David Beckham.
Galaxy, who initially denied they wanted to sign the current European Footballer of the Year, swooped late to lure Shevchenko to the Bernabeu, where he will play alongside superstars Tomas Rosicky, Ivan Helguera, Crisitano Ronaldo and Rio Ferdinand.
Sheva himself said, 'I couldn't have hoped for a better transfer. Bel Air are a great club and have done well in Europe last season, but this move gives me the opportunity to play at a legendary club, alongside some of the world's best players.'
Shevchenko, fresh from scoring four times yesterday in Turkey against Fenerbahce for Milan, completes a trio of strikers that Galaxy will bring into the new season. Roy Makaay is expected to be alternated with him for a starting berth in 4-5-1, while Baros will occasionally play alongside either one in a 4-4-2.

Galaxy have yesterday confirmed Bulgarian winger Martin Petrov's transfer to Castellon CF for a marvellous sum of £75m.
Galaxy President Florentino Perez could not believe it. '£75m isn't a small amount, and I'm surprised Castellon has offered that much for Martin (Petrov).'
Castellon, on their official website, said, 'Castellon had the cash to splash and I figured out we should tempt Petrov away from Galaxy.'
Athletico Madrid's on-form midfielder had just arrived at Galaxy when he was asked to leave again. 'It has been a great week at Galaxy and I hope the club and its players do well in the upcoming season.'
The big sum received gives Galaxy the opportunity to manoevre in the transfer market once again.
~ Three more Transfers Sealed ~
Brazilian defender Felipe has now signed a permanent deal with Bel Air FC, allowing him to switch clubs for a £15m fee. Galaxy, who had been wanting to thank their city rivals for selling them European top scorer Andriy Shevchenko at the weekend, agreed a contract to tie Felipe to their club for the next five seasons.
Versatile Tottenham captain Ledley King, who has been the subject of much interest from numerous clubs and was rumoured to have wanted out from the club, also joins Bel Air on a season-loan move worth £9m. Bel Air, in need of central defenders and defensive midfielders, warmly welcomed the move.
Elsewhere, Galaxy swooped in to snatch Dutch defender Wilfred Bouma for £1m, soon after he was released from Chacarita FC, to fill in the gap left by Martin Petrov's big departure, with left-back Santiago Solari moving upwards to the left-wing as Arjen Robben's backup.
On Thursday, Galaxy manager Jose Mourinho also dropped a hint on Galaxy's transfer activity. 'We're almost done.'
~ Galaxy on Two-Week Vacation ~
Galaxy are journeying on a two-week training vacation, starting from today, and will arrive back on 15th December.
The entire squad, manager Jose Mourinho, president Florentino Perez, and any other staff linked to the club will be away during that period.
Galaxy officially announces that no transfers will be completed during this period. Any transfer talks involving Galaxy players will be postponed until after the vacation.
The date of the opening game of the season has not been planned by the FL, so Galaxy hopes that the season will not have started yet by the time they return, so that last-minute deals can be carried out.

Galaxy have wrapped up the signing of Everton midfielder Tim Cahill. The Australian international rejoins the club after a short stint at Merseyside-USA.
Galaxy have also ended their interest in Merseyside left-back Maxwell, after a £45m offer was put on hold. The club will be looking for a left-sided player as backup for left-back Asier del Horno and winger Arjen Robben.
Meanwhile, the exit of Dutch defender Wilfred Bouma to Asgard Utd in a deal worth £15m has been officially confirmed by the club. Bouma was deemed surplus to the requirements of the squad and the sale was decided soon after Galaxy received Asgard's offer.
Bouma's number 16 shirt will now be handed over to Cahill, coincidentally the same number he wore when he played for Galaxy last season.
~ Makaay in Talks with D1 Clubs ~
Galaxy striker Roy Makaay is currently in talks with a number of leading D1 clubs, after the club announced there was a possibility of him leaving the club.
The Dutch international and Bayern Munich frontman has been impressive in the first season in Galaxy history, playing as a lone targetman upfront on numerous occasions and leading the club into second runners-up spot in the league.
However, the arrival of AC Milan sharpshooter Andriy Shevchenko has seriously threatened Makaay's chances of a starting berth. Manager Jose Mourinho has said he prefers 4-3-3 formations to 4-4-2 ones.
Meanwhile Norway United goalkeeper Iker Casillas has turned down the opportunity to move to Galaxy FC. Galaxy have been in pursuit of the Spanish international for a season, but to no avail.
~ The Set-Piece Set-Up ~
'We are very lucky to have dead ball specialists like Andrea Pirlo, Arjen Robben, Asier del Horno, Wesley Sneijder and Frank Lampard. We aim to put their skills to excellent effect in the upcoming season.'

Corners will mainly be outswinging events. Taking the right-side corners will be Andrea Pirlo, with Arjen Robben on the opposite flank.
As for free kicks, Pirlo and del Horno will stand on the ball, both capable of conjuring up dangerous curling efforts. A few feet back will be Lampard, whose run-up promises a firecracker shot.
Frank Lampard will also handle the penalties. 'I am first choice spot-kick taker for England and Chelsea, so this will be no problem,' says the goalscoring midfielder who has a fantastic conversion percentage from the spot.
Second choice penalty taker will probably be AC Milan's midfielder Pirlo.

Barcelona playmaker Ronaldinho has been named Fifa's World Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. The Brazilian gained 960 points in the poll of national coaches and captains.
Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard was second with 429 points and Ronaldinho's Barca team-mate, Samuel Eto'o of Cameroon, third with 190.
Lampard said he was proud to be voted in the top three.
"It was my ambition to get to the top, but it seemed a long way away when I was younger," said Lampard.

Galaxy have yesterday confirmed a mega deal with D1 club London Lions, which sees Timo Hildebrand and Sidney Govou arriving at the Bernabeu, with Roy Makaay and Dida heading in the opposite direction.
German goalkeeper Hildebrand, who has kept a Bundesliga clean sheet record of 884 minutes for FC Stuttgart, could not conceal his delight in signing for Galaxy.
'It's a dream come true for me, to be playing at such a big club with so many world-class players. Hopefully I will contribute fine performances to the club this season and help improve on our 3rd-place finish last season.'
Ex-GWP 'keeper Hildebrand has kept numerous clean sheets for the D1 defending champions which has seen them go on a season-long unbeaten league run. Galaxy will be hoping Timo reproduces the form this year for a club looking to go further in Europe.
'We are very happy to have signed a better 'keeper for next season. Defence will be the key to success next season and Timo will help us on the way to glory,' said manager Jose Mourinho.
The move also came as a surprise for Lyon midfielder Sidney Govou. The versatile French star said, 'I'm so delighted to have joined Galaxy. I've good mates here like Tiago who will help me settle in better. I can't wait to play for the club.'
Hildebrand takes over Dida's number 1 jersey, while Govou will pick up number 22.
Galaxy also collected a £60m money bag along with the agreement.
~ Makaay: I Never Wanted to Leave ~
Bayern striker Roy Makaay told reporters on Wednesday that he never wanted to leave Galaxy FC.
'It's been a fantastic season at Galaxy, even though we got knocked out of the cup early and finished third in the league. (Cristiano) Ronaldo, (Damien) Duff and I were just starting to forge a good partnership among ourselves,' said the Dutch frontman.
Dida and Makaay in particular have performed well for the club in the past season, Makaay playing as lone forward almost all the time and Dida playing in every Galaxy game.
Makaay now gets the chance to play alongside London Lions strikers Carlos Tevez and Milan's Alberto Gilardino.
Dida slots into a backline containing Roberto Ayala, Javier Zanetti and Marek Jankulovski, another of his Milan teammates.
Galaxy wishes them the best of luck in their upcoming seasons with London Lions.

Galaxy have snapped up free agent Glen Johnson for £1m. The club will be looking to loan out Valencia right-back Miguel for half a season, at a possible fee of £5m.
The club have also started talks with D1 WCL champions Castellon FC over the potential transfers of Lyon midfield pair Tiago and Sidney Govou.
Galaxy have had little or no progress in their striker search. Roy Makaay left the club on Wednesday, leaving Galaxy to look elsewhere for options. Rumours have it that Castellon's Jon Dahl Tomasson and Bel Air FC's Patrick Kluivert are possible targets.
Greek defender Traianos Dellas also said in midweek that a move to Panabolynter FC interests him. The club already has four Greek players on their books, including right-back Seitaridis.
Meanwhile, the club has rejected offers linking Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder away from the club. 'Sneijder is a very important squad member for us. He is definitely staying with us,' said club manager Jose Mourinho.

~ Double Deal with Bel Air ~
On Thursday, Galaxy officially announced the transfer of Rangers and Croatian forward Dado Prso to Galaxy, signed from city rivals Bel Air FC at a £13m price.
Valencia Portuguese defender Miguel also made his way across town. The speedy wingback has been transferred to Bel Air for half a season, at a £5m fee.
Meanwhile, Lyon's versatile French midfielder Sidney Govou is also attracting interest from three D1 clubs, one of them believed to be defending WCL champions Castellon FC.
It has also been reported on some websites that Panabolynter FC's Spanish striker Fernando Morientes will become a Galaxy player in the next few hours, though the club have not commented on the rumours.
~ £40m Fine Imposed On Galaxy ~
Galaxy FC have been fined a sum of £40m for their part in a fiasco involving free agent Louis Saha and Eidur Gudjohnsen. Galaxy had earlier picked up Saha and used him in addition to £38m to sign Gudjohnsen.
The FL Association, comprising of members from three Division 1 clubs, decided on subtracting a £40m amount from Galaxy's bank balance, as well as cancelling the deal.
No official reason has been given for the fine.
The shock action by the FL Association puts Galaxy in deep trouble as they will now have to cancel another imminent transfer with insufficient cash to pay.
~ Two Free Agents Signed ~
Galaxy have completed the signing of two new free agents, Danish defender Daniel Agger and Dutch winger Andy van der Meyde. They join Chelsea defender Glen Johnson and Australia's Tim Cahill who were picked up a few weeks ago.
Fernando Morientes continues to be a possible target for Galaxy. The Spanish striker has been linked with the club ever since the start of last season.
Also, a number of players are rumoured to be leaving the club before the new season begins, among them Russian captain Alexei Smertin, French forward Louis Saha and Croatian hitman Dado Prso.

Udinese's Brazilian defender Felipe has signed a five-year contract with Galaxy. A £16m transfer fee was accepted by local rivals Bel Air FC, to which Felipe moved across for exactly the same net amount.
The left-back and centre-back, who has been chased by top European clubs like AC Milan in the past couple of months, slots in as backup to first-choice left-back Asier del Horno, leaving Santiago Solari with the opportunity to move upfield.
Danish central defender Daniel Agger has also received the number 19 jersey after being signed by the club. The recent £5.8m purchase by Liverpool's Rafa Benitez relieves some of the burden on skipper Rio Ferdinand's shoulders.
Euro 2004 Defender of the Tournament Traianos Dellas continues to be linked with a move to Alizee Lyonnais FC, which has a bundle of Greek stars on its books. Other players possibly moving there as well are Lyon duo Sidney Govou and Cardoso Tiago.
Meanwhile, Galaxy are looking to sell Manchester United's £12m striker Louis Saha and Chelsea-owned Alexei Smertin for low prices when the chance arises. Another potential departure is that of Holland and Everton's wing forward Andy van der Meyde, Galaxy's new number 23 who was brought in as backup to Cristiano Ronaldo.

AC Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko was named in the UEFA Team of the Year, after performing impressively for the Italian side and guiding them to the 2004-05 Champions League final. He wins a spot in the frontline alongside Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o, narrowly beating fellow forwards Thierry Henry, Adriano and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Galaxy had three other players who finished an extremely close second in their respective positions.
Chelsea winger Arjen Robben also lost the left midfield berth to Juventus' Pavel Nedved by a mere margin of 1.16%. The Dutch youngster, who was fantastic at Euro 2004, chalked up 27.94% of votes, beating other nominated wingers Simao and Florent Malouda.
Portugal and Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo also finished runner-up in the race for right wing spot, gathering 29.96% of votes casted, finishing 4.34% behind Liverpool's Spaniard Luis Garcai.
The most mystical absence in 2005's top team was that of Frank Lampard, England and Chelsea's all-rounded midfielder who has been a driving force to Chelsea's huge success and great at Euro 2004, scoring countless crucial goals in the process. He was beaten by fellow Englishman Steven Gerrard by a margin of 2.67%.

Timo Hildebrand and Sebastian Viera will battle it out for a place between the posts.

Andy van der Meyde and Traianos Dellas have been sold by Galaxy to Rafa FC and Alizee Lyonnais respectively, the club officially confirmed yesterday.
Everton and Dutch international van der Meyde, who once earnt himself a £22m move to Merseyside-USA, has left the club for a cut price of £3m, due to increasing competition for the position he plays in, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Wesley Sneijder and now Sidney Govou in the reckoning.

~ Miguel Replaces Solari in Squad ~
Miguel has been traded with Santiago Solari of Bel Air FC, both on half-season loan periods. Bel Air, who has been searching for a left-back and left winger, found their ideal signing in the Inter Milan Argentinian, who previously had a spell with the club.
This paves the way for Glen Johnson's release from the squad. The young Chelsea right-back is the first ever player to be released by Galaxy. With two more players to remove, Louis Saha and Alexei Smertin look likely to be on their ways out of the club. The trio of players were snapped up as free agents by the club during this transfer window.
Alternatively, Galaxy could loan out another player in addition to Solari and Ledley King, possibly the on-form Lyon playmaker Sidney Govou.
The closure of the transfer window is four days from now.
~ Deadline Final Touches to Squad ~
Galaxy have terminated the contracts of Alexei Smertin and Louis Saha today. They have been released from the squad to achieve the 22-player limit clubs are supposed to have.
Sidney Govou will also remain with the Galaxy squad, after rival Division 1 teams failed to meet the £8m asking price for half-season loan.
The transfer fee of Greek defender Traianos Dellas to Alizee Lyonnais FC has also been revealed. £10m was the amount paid to Galaxy last week, with an additional £9m to arrive in mid-season.
Galaxy's finalised squad, complete with jersey numbers, will be posted up later today.

~ The Numbers Game ~
Galaxy announced their squad players paired up with shirt numbers 1 to 22 last week, with the tremendous help of their head mathematician.
Mikael Silvestre, Galaxy's starting line-up centre-back, took over the number 4 jersey from the departed Alexei Smertin.
Miguel returned to the number 13 jersey he left at the club for a short while, and Cardoso Tiago, who for the entire of last season had been wearing number 17, took 21 from new loaned-out signing Santiago Solari.
His own number 17 shirt was taken by Tim Cahill, previously holder of the number 16 kit. The Australian wears 17 for Premiership side Everton.
Sidney Govou received number 22, the very same numeral he wore when making his France debut a few years back.
Meanwhile, reserve goalkeeper Sebastian Viera has taken the traditional number 12 shirt for second choice goalkeepers, with his former number 19 jersey being given to defender Daniel Agger.

~ League Opener: Galaxy Await the Lions ~
Galaxy begin their new 2005-06 season with a crunch league match against the London Lions at a sellout Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
Over the summer, Galaxy have lost two key players in Roy Makaay and Dida to the London team, who are looking strong, particularly in the forward department with the trio of Carlos Tevez, Alberto Gilardino and Makaay himself.
However, due to the shady sales of stars like Petr Cech and Wayne Rooney, the Lions are slightly weakened, and former Lions goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand believes that 'Galaxy stand a great chance of beating the WCL semi-finalists'. But the German goalie also warned his new club about the Lion's 'solid backline', which includes new boys Evra and Lucio.
Asier del Horno will be handed his debut by manager Jose Mourinho, as will new signing Hildebrand.
The men to watch in this clash are undoubtedly Makaay and Hildebrand, who swapped sides over the summer. Their performances on their respective debuts could well decide the outcome, whether Makaay will score his first goal for Lions on the return to his homeground, or Hildebrand will keep a clean sheet in his first game for Galaxy.

Galaxy have not performed up to standard in pre-season, losing three of their four friendlies being played, against Clockwork Holland, Castellon CF, London Lions and Lyonnais FC.
Manager Jose Mourinho experimented by fielding signings like Glen Johnson, Traianos Dellas, Andy van der Meyde, Alexei Smertin etc., but his decisions proved bad as the team could not coordinate well and passes were too often to the opponent.
'We have not had the best of pre-seasons and I hope that we learn from these matches and correct our mistakes before the new season begins,' said midfielder Andrea Pirlo.

A Damien Duff goal two minutes into stoppage times gave Newton Heath all three points at a packed Old Trafford ground.
Ronaldo struck twice in the first half, before Galaxy recovered with former Newton midfielders Arjen Robben and Tomas Rosicky striking back, but it proved futile as Duff clinched a 3-2 win for the D2 champions, who now have a maximum 15 points from five league games.
Ronaldo was put through on goal by Joe Cole and calmly stroked it home in the 16th minute. He then added another four minutes later, after quickly dribbling past two defenders and pelting the ball into the top corner.
In the 57th minute, Robben completed a move started in the Galaxy midfield after a neat touch by Cristiano Ronaldo set him up, by driving it into the bottom corner. 16 minutes later the scoreline was even as substitute Rosicky found space outside the area and thundered in a powerful strike.
However the game was won for Newton in the 92nd minute when Cannavaro cleared the ball and Duff's swift counterattack left him in the area alone to put the ball under the keeper and secure the victory.

Galaxy FC has been fined £50m, deducted six league points and a point each in their two cups competitions.
A poor league tournament has left Galaxy on two points from nine games, where they are deep into relegation territory. Chances of qualification from the group phases have been endangered, with their bank balance also agonisingly nearing point of bankruptcy.

Lyon’s versatile Frenchman Sidney Govou has left the club in search for more action, after having started only one of Galaxy's nine league matches to date. The versatile 28-year-old joins the club from FC Clockwork Holland in exchange for Olivier Dacourt, a £20m sum, and the full-season loan signing of Manuel Fernandes.

In a rare response to the Press, Galaxy manager Jose Mourinho sets a few records straight regarding the club's massive deal with Alizee Lyonnais::
Galaxy have sold one of the the best strikers in the world. How will that affect the team?
Jose: We may have lost Shevchenko, but van Nistelrooy has been brought in to take his place at the tip of our 4-3-3 formation, and his ability to hold up the ball, killer instincts and lethal finishing suggests he is most appropriate for the job. Andriy works best with a strike partner but Ruud prefers doing the job alone and is probably the best at it. Ruud has ample Premiership experience, and telepathic relationships with wing forwards Robben and Ronaldo are a bonus to us. Also, sacrifices had to be made to capture the signatures of the two other players.
Are you concerned about the departures of three top-notch midfielders from the squad?
Jose: Definitely not. Sneijder and Tiago haven’t made any significant impact on the team, and Helguera isn't doing too well for Real Madrid at the moment. On the other hand, Makelele is the best defensive midfielder in the world, and his steadfast protection of the back four will conjure up an aura of invincibility in our defence. Having the experience of playing alongside several Galaxy players, our chances in the World Champions League are enhanced with the familiar world-class midfield partnership of Lampard and Makelele.
Will this deal solve occasional defensive difficulties the team has faced this season?
Jose: Yes. Makelele will add steel into midfield alongside Pirlo. In PSV’s Brazilian defender Alex, we have found a world-class centre-back to partner Rio Ferdinand at the back. Agger does not have enough experience for big cup ties, while Alex is certainly a first-teamer. I’m certain these two signings will plug in all gaps at the back and the team will begin keeping clean sheets. His firecracker free kicks make him an alternative set piece taker to the already enviable options of Pirlo, Robben, del Horno, Ronaldo and Lampard.
Overall, do you feel this deal will benefit the club?
Jose: It most certainly should. In the first half of this season, people were criticising us for not having a good centre-back and defensive midfielder, and we've solved both problems at one go without sacrificing too much of the squad. Our league campaign is as good as gone, so the Cups are the only competitions left for us. Tiago and Sneijder have immense potential, while Helguera and Shevchenko will relish the chance of playing alongside more world-class players, and I wish them the best for the future.
It will be fascinating to see how one of the most amazing deals in the Fantasy League impacts both teams in such a crucial season.

Galaxy pounced to sign Portuguese international midfielder Costinha on deadline day. The free agent, putting pen to paper just three minutes before the closure of the mid-season transfer window, could not conceal his relief. 'I'm thankful to the club for accepting me, otherwise I would be spending half a season away from football.'
Costinha meets up with several familiar faces in the dressing room, most notably former Porto teammates Paulo Ferreira and Maniche, and also fellow countrymen Cristiano Ronaldo and Miguel, with whom he reached the finals of Euro 2004.
He has received the number 6 jersey, vacanted by Ivan Helguera's move to Alizee Lyonnais.

2-0: Debut Double Delight
Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy marked his debut by scoring two second-half goals as Galaxy comfortably triumphed 2-0 over FC Independiente at home.
Argentinian teenage sensation Sergio Aguero and Portguese midfielder Maniche were named among the substitutes as Tomas Rosicky beat Andrea Pirlo to a starting berth. Alex and Claude Makelele were other debutants in this crucial WCL Cup match.
The opening 45 minutes saw no goals as the home side took the safe combination of watertight defence and swift counterattacks. The best option fell to Cristiano Ronaldo in the 22nd minute when he beat pacey right-back Nelson and feinted Andreas Isaksson but found the side-netting from an acute angle.
Makelele was doing a good job of halting playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme's progress. Ten minutes into the second half, Galaxy took the lead through their Manchester United connection. Skipper Rio Ferdinand got forward for Cristiano Ronaldo's outswinger to direct his header downwards into the six-yard box, and the lurking figure of van Nistelrooy was stationed there as always, to prod the ball in from two yards out.
On 63 minutes, Alex's 50-yard pass was controlled on the chest of van Nistelrooy, and his backheel was good but Frank Lampard's powerful follow up hit the foot of the post.
The victory was sealed in the 73rd minute, when Rosicky's precise through pass and van Nistelrooy's perfectly-timed run left the forward one-on-one against Isaksson, and he excecuted a fine lob to score his second of the afternoon and secure the Man of the Match award.

Galaxy were hammered at the Galaxy stadium by Offside Athletic to the embarassing scoreline of 4-0. The home side failed to muster a single decent attempt on goal and were made to pay the price as the away side netted twice either side of the interval to cap off a fabulous debut for their new manager.
Missing the likes of Tomas Rosicky, Andreas Pirlo, Claude Makelele, Rio Ferdinand and Ruud van Nistelrooy was never gonna be easy, but replacement Portuguese midfielders Costinha and Maniche were matchable against Gattuso and Emerson. Even so, Sergio Aguero's opportunities were few and far between, and Galaxy ended the night without a goal.
But worse news was to follow. Manager Jose Mourinho had left Frank Lampard and van Nistelrooy out of next weeks titanic derby with city rivals Bel Air FC, and with Andreas Pirlo still out injured, it is simply a disaster waiting to strike.
~ Playmaker Rosicky Joins Gunners ~Arsenal have completed the signing of midfielder Tomas Rosicky from Borussia Dortmund.
The 25-year-old Czech Republic international has joined on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.
Rosicky said: 'I'm really happy to be here at Arsenal, it is a great day for me.'
Rosicky, who will join up with his new team-mates after competing in this summer's World Cup, continued: 'The team showed their strength recently in the Champions League and have big potential with a lot of young players - I think we can be even better next season.

Czech Republic coach Karel Bruckner yesterday revealed that Rosicky was allowed to leave the training camp in Austria to finalise the transfer, after passing a medical and agreeing terms.
Rosicky, who has made 31 appearances in the Champions League for Borussia Dortmund and Sparta Prague, had been expected to sign for Atletico Madrid.
He secured World Cup football for the Czechs this summer by scoring the winning goal in the decisive qualifying play-off second leg against Norway.
The player cost Dortmund £18million when he joined from Sparta Prague in 2001 - a Bundesliga record - but the fee for his switch to Highbury is believed to be around the £7million mark.

Fabio Capello has been linked with a big money move for highly rated playmaker, Tomas Rosicky, and is a known admirer of the Galaxy FC star. With Xabi Alonso and Cesc Fabregas already in the club's ranks, it's questionable where the Czechoslovakian would fit in, but Capello has not moved to end speculation. When asked if he planned on bringing Rosicky in, the wily veteran answered "We are looking at many different options, but it is not our policy to talk about press speculation. I have been given significant funds by the board to strengthen where I feel necessary, and we will sign 3 or 4 players in the summer, with 2 of them being midfielders, but the names shall not be revealed as of yet." With Rosicky finding it hard to break into the Galaxy FC lineup, he is rumoured to be growing in frustration, and looking for a move elsewhere. Galaxy warmed up for next week's WCL semi-final against Bel Air in style as they were walloped 3-0 in front of 133,000 despairing home fans, made worse by the striking sight of Frank Lampard and Ruud van Nistelrooy on the bench as they were rested for the semi-final.
Maniche's and Andrea Pirlo's long-range efforts found the woodwork, which was the closest the Galaxions came to netting. But Bel Air scored thrice, the second consecutive league game Galaxy have failed to score.

The World Champions League derby between Bel Air and Galaxy failed to entertain many, as French captain Zinedine Zidane cancelled out Ruud van Nistelrooy's goal late in the game to leave the tie perfectly poised for the second leg.
Galaxy, technically the away team in their own stadium, had drawn 2-2 with Bel Air in their second league match, and entered the match having lost 3-0 at home to their city rivals last time out. Manager Jose Mourinho left Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo on the bench in favour of Czech playmaker Tomas Rosicky.
A dull first half saw good built-up play but the failure to convert chances were frustrating both teams. German goalkeepers Timo Hildebrand and Jens Lehmann were on the top of their game, blocking out everything from headers to long range shots from Francesco Totti and Frank Lampard.
The deadlock was broken in the 72nd minute when Asier del Horno's free kick evaded everybody except van Nistelrooy, the Dutch striker volleying in from two yards out.
However, in a frantic finale, French forward David Trezeguet's header was judged to have bounced over the goalline after ricocheting off the inside of the crossbar. The Galaxion's protests were in vain as the final whistle ended the match all square, with Zidane named as Man of the Match.

Impressive performances during Andrea Pirlo's half-season at defending league champions GWP prompted Galaxy to swap him for Xabi Alonso, giving GWP £30m as well to seal the deal. He guided Galaxy to third place in the league, and followed up his fine contributions this season. But in recent months, rising star Tomas Rosicky, a signing from Newton Heath involving Joe Cole and cash, has snatched his place in the starting eleven, often relegating Pirlo to the substitutes' bench.
'I'd been playing we regularly for the past one season and suddenly I've lost my place. It is frustrating to watch cup games from the bench when I deserve to be out there playing.' The AC Milan and former Internazionale star declined to comment on his future, preferring to concentrate on the month-long World Cup tournament, where he is a first choice international midfielder for Italy.

Galaxy finished the league season in eighth place, one off relegation territory, after a 3-0 win over Norway United on the final day. After ending the season's first half with one point from nine games and losing the next two, Jose and his players picked up the pace and accelerated up the standings, eventually ending one point behind Alizee Lyonnais and surviving the drop.
Any chance of silverware vanished with a 1-3 D1 Cup final defeat to league champions Racing Club Avenido, with Essien, Henry and a Podolski penalty seeing off a spirited Galaxy side. This was a repeat of the WCL quarter-final loss to the same opponents, with Fernando Torres, Franck Ribery and skipper Thierry Henry recording three on the scoresheet as opposed to two from Arjen Robben and Tomas Rosicky.
'There hasn't been many positives to take from this season. I think it was a good turnaround considering our situation in mid-season. Let's hope the team can put this campaign behind us and work to our fullest potentials for the next,' said Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard.

In a move to improve relations between the two teams, Galaxy have agreed to compromise and allow Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo join Alizee Lyonnais in a loan swap deal with Spanish winger Joaquin Sanchez for half a season, following prolonged interest shown by the French club. ‘This swap is not the future of Galaxy but it might do good for the players, and Ronaldo will benefit from his first experience abroad,’ said Jose Mourinho.
Cristiano Ronaldo will link up with fellow Portuguese wingers Luis Figo and Simao Sabrosa at his new club, with Joaquin, a new signing for Valencia, getting a taste of action alongside clubmates and full-backs Miguel and another new Spanish arrival, Asier del Horno.

Galaxy manager Jose Mourinho was hugely instrumental in orchestrating the departure of Andrea Pirlo.
Despite the Italian internationals dazzling performances at the World Cup, where he scored a long-range goal and had three Man-of-the-Match awards, the Chelsea manager decided that Czech playmaker, who starred in their first match against the USA and scored twice, holds the key to Galaxy’s future. ‘Pirlo is a little lightweight playing deep in midfield, and his long passing style doesn’t suit our fast-paced wing play. Rosicky has the capabilities to be our main playmaker with two defensive midfielders behind him instead.’
While Pirlo’s AC Milan escaped strict punishment for his club’s involvement in refereeing scandals, Tomas Rosicky has secured a move to Arsenal with a brand new stadium to play in next season. The Bundesliga’s most expensive signing is known to be inconsistent, but managed to displace Pirlo from the starting 11 as the season reached its climax, in the Division 1 Cup and the league’s final games.
‘I’m extremely grateful to Jose for giving me opportunities in the first team, and I hope to continue performing well for the club whenever I play,’ said Rosicky, who was brought in using Joe Cole and an undisclosed amount .
Pirlo, however, left with a bitter taste in his mouth, comparing his exit to that of Frank Lampard being driven out by Steven Gerrard and Jose Mourinho a week ago.
His replacement is the Dutch set-piece expert Wesley Sneijder.

Young talented centre-back Vincent Kompany has arrived at Galaxy to fill in the boots of the departed skipper Rio Ferdinand. But the Belgian defender is not overawed by the high expectations. ‘I have no doubt in my abilities, that I will step up and take Galaxy forward.’
Kompany won several awards in Belgium when he played for RSC Anderlecht, including the Belgian Golden Shoe and the Belgian Ebony Shoe, and is nothing short of top level experience having played in the Champions League and represented his nation.
The 20-year-old prospect for Belgian football had been linked with almost every top European club but chose SV Hamburger as his next destination, amazingly receiving the number 10 shirt as well.
He will wear the number 27 Galaxy jersey.

Galaxy have managed to secure Spanish hitman Fernando Morientes on a full-season loan from Bel Air FC. Top scorer in the Champions League 2003-04 season, ‘Moro’ is known for his deadly aerial threat and lethal finishing. His ability to hold the ball up makes him a perfect solution for Galaxy’s lone striker role, vacanted by van Nistelrooy’s move in the opposite direction. The club have been linked with Morientes for almost every transfer window since the start of the FL, and have finally got their man.
With two goals on his Champions League debut and the club’s first league goal of the new season, Morientes is enjoying it back in La Liga, at his new club Valencia. He is now the fourth Valencia player at Galaxy, after Spaniards del Horno and Joaquin were bought in addition to existing right wingback Miguel.

Galaxy players Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard bade farewell to the fans last weekend after the club decided to sell them on to Newton Heath FC and Racing Club Avenido respectively. ‘It’s been a great season and a half for me here, playing alongside teammates like Cristiano (Ronaldo) and Ruud (van Nistelrooy) in front of 130,000 supporters every week,’ said Ferdinand, who captained the team on the majority of occasions he played. He joins the newly crowned WCL Champions, which already boasts Gabriel Heinze and Fabio Cannavaro in their backline.
Likewise, England midfielder Frank Lampard.left the club with mostly good memories. ‘I’ve had wonderful times here. I’ve enjoyed every game I played, the goals I scored and I want to thank my teammates and manager for this great experience. But it’s now time to move on after two seasons at Galaxy, and I’m excited of the prospect of joining the league champions.’

German international Per Mertesacker has signed for Galaxy in a straight swap with Ledley King to Lyonnais FC. The 1.96m centre-back enjoyed a brilliant World Cup 2006 in his home nation, guiding Germany to a third place finish, winning over 80% of his defensive duels and was hailed as one of the great defenders of the tournament.
After an excellent season with Hannover, during which at one point he scored in three of four league games, Mertesacker earnt a transfer to Champions League club Werder Bremen. His type of game is unusually clean, having only received two bookings in 74 games, as of July 2006.
‘We decided on this swap as Ledley has never truly established himself as a first team defender at Galaxy, and we hope this transfer will turn out well, both for Mertesacker and the club,’ said Galaxy President Florentino Perez.
Mertesacker joins the club along with clubmate Ivan Klasnic. A third Bremen player, Miroslav Klose, opted out of the move at the last moment, preferring to move instead to Norway United.

AC Milan defender Kakha Kaladze joins Galaxy as well, as Santiago Solari departs in the opposite direction. The Argentinan and Inter Milan winger was picked out by Florentino Perez himself but failed to nail down a first team place, regularly being used as a substitute.
Georgian international Kaladze could well prove to be a better utility player. Comfortable at both left- and centre-back, Kaladze was named in Serie A’s team of the Season last season when Milan finished behind Juventus, also volleying in the only goal when Milan defeated Inter 1-0.

Portuguese right wingbacks Miguel and Nelson have moved to Division 1 Champions RCA in exchange for Holland international defenders Nigel de Jong and Johnny Heitinga.
'We preferred more defensive players for our backline. With the wingers we have, our full-backs need not dash up so often and risk getting caught out on counterattacks. De Jong is great going forward but he does well at the back too. Heitinga can play at centre-back and de Jong in midfield, so those are other options we may consider,' Galaxy manager Jose Mourinho explained.
De Jong's aerial abilities means that he will be a threat from set pieces, likewise for defenders del Horno, Alex and Mertesacker.
The Dutch duo complete Galaxy's list of eight defenders, after Paulo Ferreira had left on loan. John O'Shea was signed on the final day to provide versatility at the back.

Galaxy have also acquired Essien from the two-time champions. The dynamic Chelsea midfielder has been immense this season, tirelessly doing Makelele's ball-winning job in midfield very often and bringing the ball forward. 'After Drogba he has been Chelsea's best player this season,' said Mourinho.

The new FL season kicks off this Saturday evening, with Galaxy travelling to France to meet WCL finalist Lyonnais for this season's opening fixture.
As an extra incentive, both sides lost their opening games last season on the way to 6th and 7th place finishes, so both teams will be looking for a good start this season. 'We will definitely be more motivated to start our season well. I won't be surprised if Lyon field their best team,' manager Jose Mourinho said.

- Gerrard: Opens his account -
Galaxy bagged an opening day victory at Lyonnais' Stade Gerland to kick start their season. Steven Gerrard's debut goal and a second-half Wesley Sneijder free kick secured the three points after Lyon captain Francesco Totti equalised.
Gerrard skippered Galaxy in their first ever competitive match, a 1-1 away draw to Umbrella FC, and was given the armband again for the club's first league game. Coincidentally, the Umbrella side, now known as FC Corleone in Division 2, was also led out by current Lyonnais captain Totti.
Lyonnais set the pace after kickoff with Kaka, Joaquin and Malouda in the attacking third of the pitch, interchanging passes between each other. Joaquin twisted twice to ground O'Shea in the sixth minute but Saha could only stab his cross beyond the near post. Four minutes later, Robben weaved his way through Gattuso and Sagnol but his right-footed effort was off target.
As the half wore on, Galaxy midfielders Essien and Gerrard began to impose themselves on the game, shackling Kaka and Totti and leaving Hargreaves with the remaining chores. Heitinga performed admirably at right-back, regularly anticipating Malouda's decisions with timely tackles and blocks.
Gerrard broke the deadlock three minutes before half time with the first goal of this season's campaign as he rounded off a sleek Galaxy move, involving two touches each from Essien, Morientes and Sneijder to slot it left-footed under the advancing Coupet.
Ten minutes into the second half, Lyonnais brought the scores level, when Sagnol and Joaquin combined down the right to draw out Hargreaves. The ball was centred to Totti, who volleyed into the top corner from 25 yards out.
Galaxy were still in control of the match thereafter with Gerrard sitting deeper alongside Essien in midfield. On 73 minutes, Bonera was adjudged to have fouled Robben in the jump and from the resulting 25m free kick, Sneijder whipped home the winner.
Lyonnais surged forward in the last ten minutes but Timo Hildebrand was equal to their two best efforts, a powerful long-distance drive from Totti and a Kaka curler, which was tipped against the post. Galaxy substitute Klasnic could have wrapped up the game from a counterattack but his finish soared over the bar.

Galaxy will be hoping to build on their opening day league win this weekend by taking three points off Minof's Gang. Both teams narrowly avoided relegation territory last season, when the Gang finished in 8th position and Galaxy, a point and a spot higher.

Galaxy maintained their league momentum by hitting four past Minof's Gang without reply, to climb into second position. Debutant goalkeeper Oscar Ustari had little to do against the Gang's ineffective attacking play, bar a save from Clarence Seedorf.
The home side controlled proceedings from the first half, after a bright start. Early pressure told as Steven Gerrard's right side corner was only partially cleared. Tomas Rosicky swung a cross in from the left for Fernando Morientes to glance a header in.
Galaxy doubled their lead in the 25th minute, thanks to good pressure in midfield. Mikael Essien intercepted Oleguer's attempted clearance and beared down on goal before getting bumped over by Samuel Kuffour. Surprisingly, referee Stefano Farina opted to show only a yellow, but no matter. Gerrard coolly dispatched the penalty for 2-0.
The Gang's first opportunity stemmed from a familiar source. Raul escaped the offside trap and scooped the ball over Ustari, only to see it land on the roof of the net. Deco went to ground after a scything challenge from Owen Hargreaves minutes before half-time, but Seedorf's fiercely-hit free kick was straight at the Argentine stopper.
The tempo slowed down in the second period as Galaxy sat on their two-goal lead, while the Ronaldo and Raul failed to match the Gang's killer passes. On the hour, Ronaldo was sent tumbling on the edge of the area by Per Mertesacker but Farina waved away his claims, and Cristiano Ronaldo capitalised on the counterattack by darting between Milan duo Cafu and Seedorf on the left, before checking infield and drilling his shot into the far corner.
Brazilian left-back Rincon then capped his first FL appearance with a goal three minutes from time. A lungbursting run from defence and a neat one-two with substitute Wesley Sneijder left him to place it high beyond Valdes to round off Galaxy's second win this season.
Minof's Gang were left to rue team selection errors as Inter Milan's Marco Materazzi and Olivier Dacourt were benched. 'I played the totally wrong team,' the Gang's manager Minof conceded, 'but I will be back to full strenght next week as I have learned from my early mistake.'

All eyes were on the Santiago Bernabeu as ProHawks 'welcomed' an in-form Galaxy side, which had collected six points from two league games so far. With new manager manutd4ever at helm following a 3-0 opening day defeat, ProHawks started the same eleven players who had defeated Lyonnais 2-1 last weekend.
But the eagerly-awaited derby in the city of Madrid turned out a dull affair, only sparked by a goal from either team in the last quarter hour. Per Mertesacker reacted quickest to Cristiano Ronaldo’s dipping free kick to nudge it across the line, but the ProHawks replied just minutes later. Time seemed to stand as van Nistelrooy followed Giggs’ floated free kick and put it in, with everybody in the stadium ball-watching. 1-1 it ended, and neither side could have had any complaints.

Made several significant changes in the close-season, with only seven previous-season players remaining in this season's squad, among the departures Andrea Pirlo and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
'There's no reason to predict failure for us this season. We have improved the team by signing (Steven) Gerrard, (Michael) Essien and many more, and other teams cannot match us in the managerial department. We must finish this season with something, otherwise it'll be a disaster.'

A classic encounter was witnessed at the Bernabeu. Little did they know that the thousands of fans were to be treated into a feast of football.
The game proceeded with a couple of decent chances in the first few minutes for both teams. But the match sparked into life as a spirited Michael Essien got the show on rolling.
His 25 metre run signalled intentions of an opening goal for Galaxy FC, but was unfortunate when he finished poorly after attempting a shot just outside the box. Essien again though, got a goal this time around on the cusp of the 33rd minute as he played a one-two with Rosicky which eventually led to the home team's first goal after Essien shook the net with a powerful right foot shot.
It got the game going for the home team as La Mechanica were looking to place their foot into the match.
Just before half time though, things got worse for the away team as they gave away a controversial penalty. A telling cross from Steven Gerrard from the right saw Tomas Rosicky go down in the penalty area after Arne Friedrich was caught shirt pulling, however, replays showed otherwise. Rosicky, persistent to asking the referee to pull out the yellow card got himself one in the process.
Essien once again stepped up, and his right boot had scored again when he sent Toldo the wrong way. 2-0 on halftime.
The second half started much better for La Mechanica as they switched plots and formations. They introduced Ronaldinho on the 64th minute for the ineffective Jesus Navas and on the other side, Arjen Robben came in for Tomas Rosicky.
The introduction of 'Dinho' seemed to bring back life into the team of Mechanica as he was the strings behind the team.
The talented Brazilian sprinted and his trickery got the better of both Alex and Mertesacker as Dinho threaded a perfect through pass in which Eto'o made no mistake at close range.
Ronaldinho just a minute later, got the away team a goal and brough them back into the game. A free-kick of quality was on the agenda for Dinho as he calmly curved the ball away from the wall and into the top right corner of Hildebrand's post. The Brazilian, also the man who won the free-kick.
Galaxy were brought back down to Earth and it seemed Mechanica were in control of the game.
But at the 80th minute, once again Michael Essien changed the complex of the game as it was his him this time, that provided a delicious pass to Steven Gerrard who, from outside the box made a spectacular goal. Arjen Robben dribbled past Cicinho and saw Essien unguarded in the middle, and then the Ghanian visionised Gerrard as the Englishman made no mistake with his chance of the game.
There was to be late drama though as a penalty was awarded to Mechanica. Morientes of all players foolishly tackled Eto'o inside the penalty box and the referee didn't hesitate to point to the spot. Morientes earned himself a yellow card. Unfortunately for the away team though, Eto'o himself couldn't beat his own nerves as his shot went way over the bar and into the stands. A dissapointing night for the away team, as they could have left the Bernabeu with atleast a point.
For the home team though, they march on with big ambitions and a great performance like this tonight, can take them a long way.

Mickael Essien had a game to remember. The Ghanain midfielder put his side 2-0 up and looking comfortably going into the second half. And despite the spirited comeback from La Neranja, Essien was again there nemesis as he provided a sublime through pass which lead to captain Gerrard grabbing the winner in an enthralling finale.

Good news for LSA Originale? fans, there are whispering around the Olimpico that there will be a bid to make the current move permanent. Giovanni Cobolli Gigli had already hinted at the clubs intentions, however the rumours are strengthening and recent comments made by the player have certainly added fuel to the fire.
In a short interview with La Gazzetta Aguero had nothing but superlatives to say about his current club.
"I played football as a kid to have fun, and I still want to enjoy my football, here at LSA I get to do that. There's a great team spirit and since the arrival of Marcello [Lippi] the morale in the dressing room has rocketed. We were sitting second bottom in the table but all that's changed, we're playing good football now and getting points, and that's what we all want.
The fans here are great and after a poor first half of the season they stuck by us and really helped us through, me especially. After just moving here on loan and the poor performances I was really downheartened, but we've turned all that around and I love life here at LSA. No, the new manager only gets to decide on deals which were agreed in private since the start of the second half-season till the end. This deal was done in mid-season so it goes through. Apologues mate if you thought you had Clichy after Nikos left the FL.
I was just about to raise that point too. But for now it's probably safe to say that Kaka and Villa will be the two being chosen by the promoted teams, so it's not too late to create a new rule for these cases.
Actually, Clichy isn't being picked from Nikos's squad, he's getting picked from mine. So there is a big chance he'll get picked.

You cannot let another manager have your player when you've already traded him on to another manager in an earlier window. So you should not have looked at Clichy as being your player since the mind-season transfer window when you agreed that deal to swap him for Defoe at the end of the season.
The official announcement mentions that all deals are cancelled unless they were part of a package, which is exactly the agreed deal as it also involved two other players swapping in the initial window. It is thus a valid deal.
The manager has to agree on deals which were agreed between windows if there is a change in managers, so that is not the case here.

I think something similar happend to me, when I agreed a deal for Saviola with John and then he left, in came Del Boy and then he didnt want to do the deal and so it just fell apart...

You make a fair point but as far as I'm aware the promotion draft takes precedence over other deals. However, as this is a previously agreed deal I suppose there is a chance that Clichy may be exempt from the draft, albeit a very slim one. James is the expert to consult here so let's quit the debate until he surfaces and can offer his opinion.

Surely that means if he becomes exempt, say next season, managers who think they are going to get relegated, can agree deals for their best players and then 'cancel' them or something so they avoid the draft?

Another possible situation is if a loan period stretches beyond the promotion draft, which hasn't happened so far and is something I'll like to raise.

I'm assuming so, as if not, there would have been no reason to post the deal during mid-season.
If that is the case, then the deal should go ahead, as stated in the quote Figo provided a little earlier.
We may need to look into this ruling for future deals, and say that every deal posted (even in package deals) should be ones that are to be completed straight away, as this is a loophole which could be easily exploited by relegation threatened managers in the future.

I don't think it was. It was a separate deal, Nikos wanted to confirm it in the mid-season so no-one would poach Clichy.
