Date of birth: 15.10.1969
Country: Portugal
Position: Goalkeeper
A key member of the FC Porto squad that has been so impressive over the last decade, goalkeeper Vítor Baía is an idol in his homeland.
Club
Apart from a three-year sojourn between the posts at FC Barcelona, Baía has been a one-club man with FC Porto, where he spent eight years before moving to Spain. He started well at the Camp Nou under Bobby Robson but lost his place in the team after a serious knee injury in 1997. In Spain the Portuguese keeper won the league title, and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

Lilian Thuram
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/Players/UCL/220X220/5439.jpg
Date of birth: 01.01.1972
Country: France
Position: Defender
Rated as one of the world's best defenders, Lilian Thuram is remarkably quick and utterly reliable. An attacking full-back par excellence, his Juventus FC defensive colleague Fabio Cannavaro described Thuram's talents as "being from another planet".
National team
Following a France debut in 1994, the peak of his achievements have come with Les Bleus: Thuram helped his national side win the FIFA World Cup in 1998, having scored twice in the hosts' semi-final defeat of Croatia, and the UEFA European Championship two years later. So too, the low point, with the French team's early exit from Korea/Japan. The only France player to feature in all eight qualifying matches for UEFA EURO 2004™, Thuram won his 100th cap in the opening victory against England in Portugal. He retired three games later following the quarter-final loss to Greece, only to reverse the decision in August 2005.
2004/05: Returned to his old centre-back role and, reunited with former Parma team-mate Cannavaro, Thuram had a tremendous season as Juventus won their 28th Scudetto with the best defensive record in Serie A.

W. Samuel
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/Players/UCL/220X220/56199.jpg
Date of birth: 23.03.1978
Country: Argentina
Position: Defender CB
A strong, powerful defender easily identifiable by his tremendous poise and comfort on the ball, Walter Samuel is also a tenacious man-marker who dominates aerial battles at both ends.
National team
After gaining a winner's medal for Argentina at the FIFA World Youth Championship in 1997, Samuel made his senior debut against Venezuela in February 1999. He quickly became established in the starting XI and played three times at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Was a regular in qualifying for Germany 2006 and also helped Argentina to the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup final.
Club
Samuel's career began at CA Newell's Old Boys, breaking into the team in 1996 at the age of 18. His consistently impressive performances and maturity drew the admiration of CA Boca Juniors who lured him south to Buenos Aires during the following campaign.

M. Salgado
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/Players/UCL/220X220/24736.jpg
Date of birth: 22.10.1975
Country: Spain
Position: Defender RB
An uncompromising defender famed for his raids down the right flank, Míchel Salgado is regarded as a future Real Madrid CF captain.
1999: After two excellent seasons at Celta, Madrid managed to prise Salgado away despite competition from FC Barcelona. His first season ended in glory as Madrid defeated Valencia CF in the UEFA Champions League final. Los Merengues won the Spanish title the following year and in 2001/02 Salgado was savouring European success once again as Madrid defeated Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Salgado featured in all but three of Madrid's 38 league games as they won another Primera División title the following term. In 2003/04, scored his first goal in over three years in a 5-1 win against Sevilla FC in March, but Madrid missed out on major silverware.
Did you know?
Salgado is married to the daughter of former Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz.

Position Defender LB
Argentinian defender Diego Placente has been a major reason behind Bayer 04 Leverkusen's run of success.

http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/Players/UCL/220X220/32213.jpg
Date of birth: 09.08.1977
Country: France
Position: Defender
Another from Manchester United FC's stable of versatile defenders, Mikaël Silvestre has grown in stature in recent seasons.
National team
Silvestre made his international debut for France against Germany in February 2001, yet failed to break into the side at the FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan despite being named in the squad. One of France's most consistent performers as the European champions cut a swathe through UEFA EURO 2004™ qualifying Group 1, Silvestre was ever-present in the finals, giving away penalties against England and Croatia. However, fell out of favour during 2006 World Cup qualifying.
2004/05: A regular as United again finished third, his personal highlight for the FA Cup finalists came with both goals in the 2-0 September Premiership win against eventual European champions Liverpool FC - the first time he had scored more than once in a league season, let alone a match.

Date of birth: 20.12.1978
Country: Cameroon
Position: Midfield
A right-back turned midfield player with a fine pedigree, Geremi is a real powerhouse who can tackle and distribute the ball with equal aplomb.
Club
Played for his hometown club, Racing Bafoussam, and then Cerro Porteño in Paraguay before venturing to Europe with Turkish side Gençlerbirlgi SK in 1997. Geremi was a revelation at the 19 Mayis stadium, scoring nine goals in 57 matches before being signed by Real Madrid CF.

Vieira
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/Players/UCL/220X220/24729.jpg
Date of birth: 23.06.1976
Country: France
Position: Midfield
Patrick Vieira is a midfield player with the ability and power to invoke fear in the most competitive of opponents and is one of the most respected footballers in the world.
National team
Made his international debut in February 1997 against the Netherlands and came on as Les Bleus defeated Brazil to win the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Vieira was a fixture in the side by the time France added the UEFA European Championship to their world crown two years later and remains the cornerstone of Raymond Domenech's new-look side.
1996: Vieira arrived a virtual unknown in England, as was Arsène Wenger, who joined the club a month after his countryman but who had stipulated in his contract talks that the club buy the midfield player. The signing of Vieira will perhaps go down as Wenger's best; the player has incredible energy and combines skill, technique and determination to exact a huge influence all over the field. Vieira won league and cup doubles in 1997/98 and 2001/02, replaced Tony Adams as Arsenal captain in August 2002 and lifted the 2003 FA Cup before guiding the Gunners to the 2004 league title without defeat.
2004/05: The following season proved a disappointment as Vieira's form dipped and an injury-hit Arsenal surrendered their Premiership title to Chelsea FC, although the campaign was partially redeemed by winning the FA Cup, Vieira finishing the season on a high by scoring the decisive spot-kick as Arsenal defeated Manchester United FC on penalties in the final. However. the was to be his Arsenal farewell, as he returned to Italy in a €20m transfer to Juventus FC.

Beckham
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/Players/UCL/220X220/14670.jpg
Date of birth 02.05.1975
Country England
Position Midfield
Simply the most famous footballer in the world, David Beckham's main attributes are his long-range shooting ability - especially from free-kicks - pin-point accurate crossing from the right, and seemingly limitless reserves of energy.
National team
The summer after he made his debut against Moldova in September 1997, Beckham was vilified in England for his sending off in the FIFA World Cup match against Argentina. He featured at UEFA EURO 2000™ and was made captain in the build-up to the 2002 World Cup, scoring a brilliant added-time free-kick against Greece which earned England a place in Korea/Japan before exorcising his Argentina demons in Sapporo. Inspirational as England qualified for UEFA EURO 2004™, his reputation suffered as he missed penalties against France and Portugal in the finals. Returned to form in 2006 World Cup qualifying with excellent goals against Wales and Azerbaijan.
Club
A lifelong Manchester United FC fan despite being born in London, Beckham was part of United's much-vaunted 1992 FA Youth Cup-winning side. He established himself in the first team in the 1995/96 English double-winning season and a goal from the halfway line in the first game of the next campaign, at Wimbledon FC, marked his arrival. Beckham's efforts in the treble-winning team of 1998/99 that lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy won him second place in the FIFA World Player of the Year and European Player of the Year polls. His coruscating form in 2001 brought another second place in the FIFA poll and Beckham helped United to a sixth title during his time at the club in 2002/03, and scored twice in the Champions League loss to Real Madrid CF, the club he joined in the summer for €35m.
Did you know?
David and Victoria Beckham have three sons, Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz. David has all three boys' names tatooed on his body and also has Victoria's name imprinted on his arm in Hindi.

Luis Figo
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/Players/UCL/220X220/4065.jpg
Date of birth: 04.11.1972
Country: Portugal
Position: Midfield
A winger of outrageous talent, Luís Figo's trickery has tormented defenders for well over a decade.
Club
Made his Sporting Clube de Portugal debut in 1989 aged 16, winning the Portuguese Cup and the club captaincy before joining FC Barcelona in 1995. The career of the 'Lion King' took off at Camp Nou, and he claimed the 1996/97 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and successive Primera División titles during five seasons at the club. Then, in 2000, came his controversial, world-record transfer to Real Madrid CF. Figo helped justify the €65m investment by helping Madrid to the Primera División title and being named FIFA's world player of the year.
----------
Pablo Garcia
http://www.notasdefutbol.com/images/Pablo_Garcia.jpg
Date of birth: 11.05.1977
Country: Uruguay
Position: Midfield
A steely, no-nonsense midfield player, blessed with great technical ability, free-kick specialist Pablo García has gained a hard-man tag during his time in Spain.
National team:
Made his full debut for Uruguay in December 1997 against the United Arab Emirates, having previously scored for his nation in that year's FIFA World Youth Championship final defeat by Argentina. Was vital in 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifying and played all three games in Korea/Japan. Remains a central presence.
---------
Gilberto Silva
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/Players/UCL/220X220/64769.jpg
Date of birth: 07.10.1976
Country: Brazil
Position: Midfield
While the attacking triumvirate of Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho dominated the headlines as Brazil played their way to 2002 FIFA World Cup success, Gilberto was undoubtedly his country's unsung hero.
National team
A latecomer to international football, the combative central midfield player featured in every minute of Brazil's seven matches at Korea/Japan and it was his ability to subdue opposition midfields in the holding role which allowed his more creative team-mates the freedom to express themselves. However, he was left out of Brazil's squad for the Copa América in summer 2004.

Zidane Retired, BFC President of Honour
http://www.uefa.com/ml/images/Players/220X220/3996.jpg
Date of birth: 23.06.1972
Country: France
Position: Midfield
For many the ultimate midfield player, Zinedine Zidane boasts brilliant passing skills, breathtaking touch and the pace and determination to make his contribution count.
National team
Already tipped for greatness, Zidane scored twice on his debut against the Czech Republic in August 1994, yet it was in France's victorious 1998 FIFA World Cup campaign that 'Zizou' became a legend. Two headed goals in the final against Brazil capped a magnificent performance, and he was in similarly luminous form as France triumphed at UEFA EURO 2000™. Reduced by injury to just one appearance in Korea/Japan, many blamed Zidane's absence for France's poor showing. He scored three times at UEFA EURO 2004™ - including two in a remarkable comeback against England. He retired from international football after the finals only to make a dramatic return to the national team during 2006 World Cup qualifying.
Club
Born in Marseille in 1972 to Algerian immigrant parents, Zidane made his debut for AS Cannes in the 1988/89 season before moving on to FC Girondins de Bordeaux. Having helped Bordeaux to the final of the 1995/96 UEFA Cup, Zidane moved to Juventus FC. Two Serie A titles followed, but defeat in two UEFA Champions League finals - against BV Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid CF - marked a disappointing return from his six seasons in Turin.
2001: Joined Madrid for €76m in the summer of 2001, proving an instant hit. He finally broke his European duck by scoring a sublime volleyed winner to help Madrid win the 2001/02 Champions League final against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Added a UEFA Super Cup and Spanish championship to his list of honours in 2002/03, scoring nine times in 33 Primera División matches.
2004/05: By his own admission, this was again not one of Zidane's best seasons, but his sublime drive against Sevilla FC on 14 May, one of six goals in the league, showed he still had to old magic.
Did you know?
Having previously won both the European and World Footballer of the Year awards, Zidane was voted the No1 European player of the past 50 years in UEFA's Jubilee poll.

Date of birth: 30.01.1975
Country: Brazil
Position: Midfield
An elegant right-sided midfielder, Juninho Pernambucano's extensive passing range and deadly free-kicks have been crucial to Olympique Lyonnais' recent success.
Club
The free-scoring Juninho is part of a select group to have played a part in all five of Lyon's title triumphs, and it is no coincidence that the most successful period in the club's history has coincided with the elegant playmaker's time at the Stade Gerland. The Brazilian international came through the youth ranks at his local club Sport Recife before moving to CR Vasco da Gama in 1995. He enjoyed a successful six-year spell at Vasco da Gama, helping the club win the Copa Libertadores in 1998, the Brazilian championship in 1997 and 2000 and the Copa Mercosur in 2000, catching the eye of then Lyon coach Bernard Lacombe in the process.

Date of birth: 18.02.1973
Country: France
Position: Midfield
One of world football's most effective ball-winners Claude Makelele is quietly crucial to his side, sitting in front of the defence and breaking up opposing attacks before launching his own team's forays forward.
Club
After starting his career with Stade Brestois 29, a move to FC Nantes Atlantique in 1992 marked the beginning of Makelele's rise to greatness. He won the French championship during a five-year spell at La Beaujoire before switching to Olympique de Marseille, for a season, and then RC Celta de Vigo. Makelele's dynamic style won over the Celta fans during a two-year stay before Real Madrid CF came calling with €14m. Makelele lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy in 20002 and the Spanish title the following season before switching to Chelsea in summer 2003 for around €23m. Makelele was a critical component as Chelsea cantered to the Premiership title, won the English League Cup and reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League in 2004/05 and played a starring role again as they retained the Premiership crown the following year.

Date Of Birth: 18/ 02/ 1983
Position Mifielder
Country England
After a summer of rumours, Tottenham finally completed the signing of unsettled Newcastle United midfielder Jermaine Jenas on transfer deadline day in August 2005.
The 22-year-old moved to White Hart Lane for a transfer fee of between £8million and £9million.
The England international had been expected to leave St James' Park after revealing in the summer that he was tired of living in "a goldfish bowl" on Tyneside.
He said of the move: "This is a great move for me. I am aiming to win things and with the players already at the club I am sure I can realise this ambition."
He was linked with a move to Arsenal in July as a replacement for Patrick Vieira when the Frenchman sealed his move to Juventus.
Those rumours intensified when Newcastle bought Scott Parker and Emre, and Jenas was reported to be on the verge of handing in a St James' Park transfer request.
Newcastle boss Graeme Souness attempted to kill off the rumours by placing a £20million price tag on the player, who cost them £5million when he moved from Nottingham Forest in February 2002.

Date of birth: 01.07.1976
Country: Netherlands
Position: Forward CF
Only Raúl González has more UEFA Champions League goals than the lethal Ruud van Nistelrooij.
National team
He made his debut for the Netherlands against Germany, aged 22, and scored his first international goal against Morocco in 1999. Injury ruled him out UEFA EURO 2000™, but four years later a hat-trick against Scotland helped the Dutch reach UEFA EURO 2004™ via the play-offs, taking Van Nistelrooij's qualifying campaign tally to five goals. He scored four times in Portugal before the semi-final loss to the hosts and continued to be in the goals in 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying.
2004/05: Not a vintage season but his eight Champions League goals - including four in one match against AC Sparta Praha - was again the leading statistic. Also struck twice in the FA Cup semi-final win against Newcastle United FC, though Arsenal FC won the final on penalties.

Date of birth: 05.04.1976
Country: Spain
Position: Forward CF
An English-style centre-forward whose greatest strength is his aerial ability, Fernando Morientes has scored goals wherever he has played.
National team
Morientes made his debut for Spain against Sweden in 1998, scoring twice in the first five minutes. He scored twice more against Bulgaria in the 1998 FIFA World Cup finals but was left out of the UEFA EURO 2000™ squad. The striker returned for Korea/Japan and was in the goals again, registering twice in the 3-1 win against Paraguay and once in the second-round defeat of the Republic of Ireland. At UEFA EURO 2004™, Morientes scored one of Spain's two goals. However, after coming off the bench for a September 2004 World Cup qualifier against Bosnia-Herzegovina, he was dropped due to his lack of club football.
Club
Morientes made his name at Real Zaragoza where he scored 28 goals in 66 games. He continued this form after moving to Madrid in July 1997, averaging almost a goal every other game in the championship-winning team of 2000/01. None, however, was more celebrated than his strike in the 3-0 win against Valencia CF in the 2000 UEFA Champions League final. Despite 18 goals and another Champions League crown in 2001/02, the arrival of Ronaldo meant that Morientes started only two league games the following year. He joined AS Monaco FC on loan in September 2003 as a replacement for long-term injury victim Shabani Nonda.
2004/05: Morientes scored twice on his Madrid comeback, a 2-0 Champions League third qualifying round first leg win at Wisla Kraków. However, with Michael Owen's arrival, Morientes did not start a league game and in January himself switched to Liverpool FC for €9m on a three-and-a-half year contract. Making his debut against Manchester United FC, he was cup-tied for his new club's Champions League triumph but did play in the League Cup final loss to Chelsea FC. Made his Champions League bow for Liverpool in July against Total Network Solutions FC.

Date of birth: 29.11.1973
Country Walse
Position Left Midfielder / Forwarder
The most decorated player in the history of Manchester United FC with more than 500 appearances for the club, Ryan Giggs' main strengths are his speed and his ability to manipulate the ball while running at full pace, an intimidating sight for any defender.
Club
Giggs first turned out for United as a 17-year-old substitute against Everton FC in March 1991. As well as being a fine dribbler, Giggs is also a regular goalscorer, and it is not uncommon for Sir Alex Ferguson to use the Welshman as a central striker. Giggs famously scored a magnificent solo effort to win the 1999 FA Cup semi-final replay against Arsenal FC, from which point the club went on to secure an unprecedented treble of league, cup and UEFA Champions League. He has claimed seven other English titles, two more FA Cups and a League Cup and is the only player to win the Professional Footballers Association Young Player of the Year award on two occasions (1992 and 1993).

~ Good Partnership between Bel Air and Galaxy ~
Galaxy FC are in talks with Bel Air FC about a potential partnership alliance.
Galaxy president Florentino Perez has a good relationship with his Bel Air counterpart and the pair are negotiating a deal which would see them having first refusal on each other clubs' players.
In recent weeks, Perez has spoken several times to Bel Air about the availability of midfielder Patrick Vieira. Bel Air, but the talks have continued and led to a possible partnership agreement.
Vieira's teammates Owen and Stam are also interesting Galaxy, while Helguera is linked with a move to Bel Air.
Galaxy has also been told they have been give first option in Gudjohnsen.
The good links established between the two clubs have seen Bel Air adding the trio of Real Madrid players Zidane, Raul and Solari to their squad, while Galaxy have gotten duo Duff and Deco.
'Our good relations have lead to several win-win situations betweem the two great clubs. It goes to show the importance of what a good partnership can do.' Said Perez of Galaxy FC.
Ofcourse the board of BFC is so happy with this partnership too.

~ Trezeguet Finally Arrives at The Bernabeu ~
http://www.infol.com/piter3/Foto/trezeguet.jpg
- Bel Air FC have completed the signing of French Forwarder from Galaxy FC for an unrevealed fee. -
Galaxy FC could not resist the huge offer received for the versatile Forwarder and signed the First deal between the two clubs this transfer window.
'He is a great experienced talent, versatile, with Accurate shots, is a threat from anywhere on the pitch. He'll be fantastic playing in the hole left by Shevchenko. I'm sure the massive fee we paid will be worth every cent of it,' boasted an arrogant Samuel L. Jackson.
Trezeguet was equally happy. 'Moving to BFC has been my dream, I can't express my joy in words. I'll work very hard to improve myself and hopefully win alot of matches'.
Trezeguet's arrival further stirs up the rumours that Sheva's departure is imminent.
The vacant number 17 jersey has been handled to BFC's new signing.

~ Samuel to BFC, Finally!!! ~
http://images.supersport.co.za/020607WalterSamuelInActionGbg. jpg
After a long season of chasing and tracking, BFC have finally signed Argentinian solid rock of defence Walter Samuel from Galaxy FC, in a deal involved Ukranian Forwarder Andriy Shevchenko going the other way.
The move reunites Samuel with Inter teammate Cordoba, who has been very impressive in the last couple of weeks.
'It's great to finally sign for BFC. I've been dreaming of that for the whole of last season, and now it's came true. I can't wait to play on the defence with some of the world's best defenders, like Willy Sagnol and ofcourse Ivan cordoba.
The most exciting defender of the current Argentinian squad will add lightning pace and superb strength to BFC's defence, as well as supporting the midfield and up front.
Judging by how he single-handedly won numberous games for J-Hill FC last season, this signing looks a good one, especially with Ivan Cordoba dominating the other role.
BFC have now got their second center back, which will provide them with an extra weapon in their bid to win the World Champions League tournament.
Stam's former number 25 shirt will now be handed to Walter Samuel.

Zizou - Who wanted to Stay at Bel Air
France and Real Madrid playmaker Zinedine Zidane, was loaned to Bel Air by Galaxy, has expressed his desire to remain at his present club.
'I have enjoyed my football there, and my friends there have been great for me too - people like Patrick (Vieira) and David (Beckham). Bel Air suits my playing style very well and I hope to remain there and continue contributing to the team.'
'We are in the World Champions League quarter-final, which is a reward for the hard work we put in during qualification.'
'Galaxy are a great team as well, but at the moment there doesn't look like a place in the starting team is available to me,' said Zizou, referring to comments made by Galaxy boss Jose Mourinho in midweek, who boasted that he would not trade any of Galaxy's three central midfielders for anyone else in the world.
After a long time of discussions and negotiations both BFC and Galaxy FC have decided to change the status of Zidane's contract from ''On Loan" into "Permanent Stay" just to honor the frenchman who was voted to be the best player in 50 years.
Zidane couldn't be happier about it.
Man this is my favourite team,I wish you the best and I hope you win many titles :)

Transfer News
In the last few weeks alot has happenned with the team's squad, the club managed to secure two deals that the coach think will be positive for the team, in the same time we had to see King (was on loan for the season), Dyer (sold to .........), Trezeguet and italian playmaker Totti (involved in a trade deal) leaving the team.
http://vnexpress.net/Vietnam/The%2Dthao/2005/01/3B9DA9AF/totti.jpg
Juninho (who will be available for one season loan), Cloude Makelele, Luis Figo and Kevin Kuranyi are the new comes of the club, and since italian playmaker Totti will be leaving, the coach think that Juninho's arrival was important. The coach also said that the team needs to reinforce the attack by bringing in at least one quality forwarder, Ruud v. Nistelrooy and Kevin Kuranyi were introduced as the new club attackers.

Now that King left the club, the team needs to strngthen the backline, Cloude Makelele who is regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world was brought to partner Patrick Vieira in front of the defence line.
