Ok lads, I know that the title is a bit err... cheeky, but on the other forums I visit they have threads called this. So the point of this? To just, surprisingly, chat. These forums are really buzzing these days but there's no thread to just talk to people, get to know them etc..
Use this thread to talk about whatever really, the latest news on PES3 (Or WE8 if it's that successful ;))
As this'll most likely fail, I thought I'd test it out here just to see if it suits these forums...
I'll start off then. What are your reactions to people who have tested PES3 who are saying that it's a bit of a step back from WE7?
*Badger puts his balls on the line*

It's a good idea but maybe the thread should be called "General Discussion" so people don't think (like I did) that it's some kind of competition?

Nice one :)
From what I've heard from someone who's played WE7 and a newer preview version than most others have tried, PES3 is a better and more fluid game.
I can't wait to get a PES3 T-shirt that was mentioned a while back.
Badgerman
05-09-2003, 16:58
Hmmm... A more fluid game? Sounds great!
But I'm not gonna be holding my breath after considering PES2's port from WE6...
Zygalski
05-09-2003, 17:12
Let's allow them to have made one (major) mistake with PES2. PES3 should be great :)
Badgerman
05-09-2003, 17:20
But it's amazing seeing basically the same game, but done right in WE6:FE!
I personally don't think PES2 was that bad, I mean, look at the buzz around it when it was released. I suppose PES3 is doomed for the same fate come PES4
pes2 wasn't bad, it was just worse than we6 and we6fe
Badgerman
05-09-2003, 18:30
It's just that after testing out WE7, PES2 seems so unrealistic!
I mean it's a great game, but you've got to feel the Europeans have been getting the pooey end of the stick
*Shakes fist
Grimsby, my team, 11th. Not too bad, yet I think we should be higher up in division 2 than 11th.
So does anyone else support a nationwide club?
Port Vale top. Thought they were good when played us. MCphee, good player.
Just making the post longer. I wanna win the competition! ;)
Badgerman
05-09-2003, 19:47
Heh.
I'm actually a long time Portsmouth fan, so you can imagine how smug I am now.
But the nationwide leagues now seem tighter than ever, I can see 10 candidates that could get promoted into the Premiership from Division 1!
Yeah. I was thinking about the relagation contenders. The only one I could think of having a good chance of going down was Crewe, but even they are doing well. Maybe Wimbledon. I would like to see Reading reach the play-offs or even an automatic promotion spot. I saw them last year back in Grimsby's Div. 1 days and they looked great. Murray looks a great signing for them.
Badgerman
05-09-2003, 20:59
I always like to see teams that you'd never imagine playing in the premiership, sounds odd, but it's kinda novelty, so I tinkh Reading in the Premiership would be very odd!
I wonder if Sunderland and West Ham can bounce back, if West ham can keep a hold of Defoe and a few other youngsters then i think they have a great chance.
Yeah. I can think of soemthing incredible. Wolves in the premier league and actually Winning.
Sorry to the fans. Just joking. I thought they deserved to beat Man Utd. Lots of good chances.
Badgerman
05-09-2003, 21:14
Got to admit that Camara had 4 good goal scoring opportunities, but you can't get away with squandering chances like that at Old Trafford...
Gotta say tho that Harry Redknapp is an amazing manager! Who would've imagined that after 4 games pompey would be unbeaten!

That unbeaten run stops at Highbury.
So relish the next week or so to it's fullest. ;)
Seriously, I've been impressed by Pompey's display this season and with all our internationals coming back from qualifiers, weariness could be the decisive factor.

LOL!
But we've got a few unlucky fixture clusters...
October
H
Sat 18th
Liverpool PREM.
A
Sat 25th
Newcastle United PREM.
November
A
Sat 1st
Manchester United PREM.
And then later on...
February
H
Tue 10th
Chelsea PREM.
A
Sat 21st
Liverpool PREM.
H
Sat 28th
Newcastle United PREM.
But I think if they can keep their chins up through the "rough" periods and concentrate on bouncing back (See how positive I am?) then we should be able to stay up
But hey, we've already got more points than Wolves ever will :o
But if we finish 17th, I'll be delighted.

All teams have to play tougher teams so it's the same for all.
How about someone opens a 'General Discussion' in the Football section for footie talk and we use this thread for general chatting on PES/WE games?

Newcastle at home is probably the easiest (no disrespect to Toons) but I'll take each match on it's own merits.
Inter will never be easy, even at home.
I'm just hoping Vieri breaks his ankle or something against Wales today. He's the backbone of Inter.

Now this thread'll die.

Zygalski
06-09-2003, 19:27
No it won't die. If it's about only football, it should be in the football section. If you want it renamed, let me know.
It's not like there should be a 'General Movie' thread in the kits section - that wouldn't work either.
This thread won't die. Just watch.
Badgerman
06-09-2003, 19:30
the thread was meant to be about General chat, football is a pretty big thing on these boards, so people are bound to chat abut it.
how can all the posts be strictly about PES/WE in the General Chat forum.
Surely the point of the "General Forum" is for people to talk about whatever. T'was the point of putting it into General chat in the first place, it's the liveliest forum.
Now I'll have to talk about Football only, which means if I want to talk about General things, I'll have to do a new thread. And then I'll have to wait and wait and wait for a reply.
Yay

06-09-2003, 19:47
it's just a general place for chat, look at page 1, it was all about PES/WE but then the members decided talking about actual football, I put it there because it's the most popular forum so anyone can go there, I wanted the majority to see it, now it's just a minority
Zygalski
06-09-2003, 19:49
This one is the majority section for those who want to talk about football. People know where this thread is so they can pop in any time to discuss the latest footie. You'll see that this thread will work well. Be patient.

Nah, I thought he was good in earlier matches and his display against Macedonia didn't change that opinion. He made some very interesting runs down the left and got in some very good crosses in the first-half which were scuffed by Owen, who, coincidentally, wasn't very impressive at all last night.

You don't have to play your best team so as to avoid injuries, rest vital players and those on yellows. It gives peripheral players a chance. But then there is the fine tuning/match practice needed ahead of the Turkey fixture. Plus it's psychological to show Gunes that England will not be a pushover... let's hope we do it and Roonaldo is on tip top along with Becks and the rest.

Quick word of advice to Sol and the rest of the boys.... when the ball comes at you below your knee, use one of your feet and NOT YOUR HEAD¬!! Quick feet, good positioning, bang it away - simple!
England to concede a first half goal to a schoolboy error and then score 2 in the second half, anyone??
What about the sodding ref?????????
The same guy who sent of Beckham in WC98 against Argentina. I was expecting (or hoping for) Collina but oh well. Maybe the ref won't be a knob this time?

Speaking of referees. Steve Bennet was actually the guy in charge when Keane got sent off for his attempted punch at Shearer. He, of course, also sent of Vieira in a similar incident in the game at OT.
The Turkey game looks good. Beckham's fitness problem isn't as big as everyone expected. Certainly nothing like the pre-World Cup fiasco. Anyone have any precitions for the starting line-up?All the same for me but Scholes coming back in to play in centre midfield with Lampard. He better score, it's been a long time coming...
---------------
0-0 in Moscow last night. I'm optimistic and say that a point away in Europe is pretty good especially considering we've lost in all of our last four visits to the capital. Still, we could've played better. Much better. Did anyone see Wiltord's performance? Pitiful. Absolutely pitiful. When will Wenger drop him for Aliadiere or Bentley? Introducing Bentley or Aliadiere will, at the very least, make Wiltord (and Bergkamp when he's fit) realise that there are two talented, hungry young players who want a place in the team. They don't care that Bergkamp has done all he's done in his career, or if Wiltord has scored in a European Championship final, they want to play football and score goals for Arsenal. If they get a chance and score goals, bingo, winner. If they get a chance and make the others buck up and score goals, bingo, winner.
Bah, I know I'll end up seeing Wiltord and Henry starting against Pool.
---------------
I'm sure many of you have heard of the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl by no less then 8 'instantly recognizable' Premiership players.
Well, loads of information is binging around now. I've heard that the consenting adult was in fact Carlton Cole and the rest were from Newcastle! I kid you not. From what I've heard, she agreed to a threesome and got more then she bargained for.
Another source says that it was in fact only 4 players taht took part in the deed.
Whatever it is, it is going to majorly rock one (maybe two) club, badly.
Sounds very much like the Kobe Bryant case in the states accept, obviously, the star lsit is much higher here. It could turn out that the young woman is lying, after all in the end,. We'll just wait and see...

After much debate and deliberation with Barcelona, Arsenal have finally signed Cesc Fabregas. Here's the official press release:
Arsenal have signed 16-year-old starlet Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona.
The midfielder, whose full name is Francesc Fabregas Soler, took home the two top individual awards from this summer's Under-17s World Cup in Finland.
He was voted the Player of the Tournament and won the Golden Boot after his six goals helped Spain reach the final.
"He is a playmaker," said Wenger. "Someone with real vision. He has all the ingredients to be a big player."
He looks very exciting. I watched the U-17 WC and he was stunning. I'm hyped that we've signed him. One for future, definitely.
PicturePerfect
03-10-2003, 05:29
The Spanish public love him too:
"In the Spanish team one player is special. Almost from nowhere, a leader of extraordinary quality has emerged: Francesc Fabregas, Cesc. At 16 he is the second youngest in the squad, but no-one disputes his leadership on the field."
"Cesc is the centre of attention in the tournament in Finland. And Arsenal have just filched him from Barcelona by the old trick of changing the family residence – his father has officially moved it to London – and he will now spend 6 years under the watchful eye of Arsène Wenger."
"So much fuss over a mere lad? "He’s ahead of his time. His technique is magnificent and his vision of the game sensational. And he has goals in him. He directs the team, reads the game … As a footballer, he’s like a 20 year-old", says Ginés Meléndez, his trainer in the Spanish under-16 squad."
"Cesc is a central midfielder shaped during his 4 years with Barça in the Guardiola pattern, but 'more widely talented', and was captain of the Catalan under 14 squad. "Technically, he has it all. There’s no saying how far he could go. Such maturity … ", adds Meléndez.
"Cesc has been the great revelation of the tournament. With 5 goals he’s the tournament’s top scorer, along with Curto of Portugal, but he retains his humility. He strolls with his fellow team members, plays cards, watches videos, swims in the pool and gets homesick. Via a message on his under-vest he dedicated his golden goal in the semi-final against Argentina to his Uncle Jordi, who is devoted to him, and to his pals in his home town of Mataró. A great goal. "He’s an authentic leader, and a straightforward, well-behaved and generous lad", says Meléndez."
"Keen on ice-hockey as a child, Cesc began his football with Arenys del Mar, where he was born, and moved on to Mataró and then Barça. He admires Figo, Zidane and Guardiola, and reads Johann Cruyff. Juan Santisteban, the trainer of the Spanish U17 squad, tries to protect him from his recent fame. "He’s only a boy". Maybe so, but he’s the leader."
PicturePerfect
04-10-2003, 17:24
Yay! My prayers have been answered.
"Jeremie Aliadiere has selected up front alongside Thierry Henry with Sylvain Wiltord dropping to bench. The fleet-footed 20-year-old forward looked special early last season. He came off the bench three times in the opening four games and even scored against West Brom at Highbury. However a hernia injury blighted his season and eventually an operation ended his campaign. This season, he is back with a bang. He put the Celtic defence under severe pressure in the pre-season game at Parkhead and has been in fine form in the reserves. Today will be his full first-team debut for the club."
I'm well chuffed now.
Arsenal aren't doing very well at the moment though. Liverpool should be a few goals up, having said that, Arsenal have just equalised against the run of play.

He went for a challenge on Cole as Ash was clearing and had a really bad landing. His studs got stuck in the wet pitch and his ankle twisted twice. It looked quite painful. I know I have a bias but they were actually more Arsenal players around him helping then they were 'Pool players after the injury. Anyway, I hope he's fit in time for the England game.

Heskey and Rooney with Scholes in behind?

Scholes got a goal today, yeah, he's playing well. I think the report of extent of the injury will be released tomorrow morning.
Cross your fingers.
Please be fit for Turkey, please be fit for Turkey, PLEASE!

This is the latest, quotes from Owen and Houillier:
Owen said: “I heard something crack, I thought it was broken.” Houllier added: “He told me he heard something go.”
But Houllier revealed that the X-ray did not show any break and that the player will now have a scan to assess what other damage the player has suffered.
“He has damaged either a muscle on the shin or the ankle. If there is just muscle damage it could be two or three days before he is okay,” said the manager.
“But if it is ligament damage then he will be out a lot longer. The England physio Gary Lewin was obviously here with Arsenal, he has had a look at Michael.
“I do not want to restrict him, I will not hold him back because I know how important the England game is to Michael and his country.”
Houllier added: “I am confident now there is no fracture. But it is too early to say what the problem is. The scan will reveal that.”

WE'RE GONNA FACKING LOSE!! ARRRRGHHHHH!!!
Is gonna be my reaction if he's out of the game...
Yes, it would be a major blow. :(
Apparently, it's 50/50 as to whether he can play or not.

What was up with young mr Rooney yesterday? So much swearing at the ref. Dodgy behaviour. Lost a bit of respect for him since I saw him doing that? Don't know what goes through the minds of players sometimes. OK he got booked when he maybe didn't deserve it but swearing that much to the ref isn't going to impress Sven is it?? Especially with the pressure everyone will be under in the Turkish stadium. Not a good move by the youngster. Hope he calms down soon.
Yep, I've seen him do that a lot. He does seem a very firery young man. As you say, isn't really impressing anyone.

Yeah, at least other players call the ref a 'f*cking w*nker' away from their face. :)
Anyone catch SuperBob's goal yesterday? Pure class, I thought. Just when the doubters were appearing too. Kewell, also, should get a mention. Very nice volley.
Oh, and, thanks goes to Hyyppia for converting the first one too. ;)
You wouldn't believe how much fun I had to day in the Business Studies block today at school. Two scousers in there, one Evertonian and one 'Pool fan. :D
Yep, they were nice goals but I think Kanoute wins this week's goal of the week......possibly even goal of the season! What a scorcher!

His name is Rio and he doesn't play for Eng-land!
I think James McFadden is a good prospect likes gettin down the left wing and also good upfront i'm just made cause David Moyes is bascially building a team for the future but does have a good balance of experience in the side at the same time and yeah Big Duncs back thankfully earning his goddam wage

Top of the EPL fair play table. (http://sport.independent.co.uk/football/arsenal/story.jsp?story=453364) Who would that be? Why, that would be Arsenal. Despite being the most evil and downright nasty team to ever play the game, The Gunners find themselves top of the Premier League's fair play table. With 53 red cards this season alone, and 6 players facing sentences of life in prison for the savage, barbarian flesh eating riot at Old Trafford, it doesn't fucking say much for the rest of them, does it?

Gotta keep at it rebus.
When we are top of the fair play league, someone has a moan (Rebusrahman!) about it!
Can Arsenal do anythng right!
<Hears the tapping of fingers moaning about us on the Continent!>
My suggestion of individual team threads seems to have been given the go-ahead so....
Post which team threads you would like to see here. The threads in highest demand will be created.
Thanks

Paul, if the demand isn't enough, do you suggest we should open separate division threads, instead?
Anyway, I think one for Man Utd. is a must as they're quite a lot of fans of them around the boards.
I'll say Arsenal too, but I fear I'll be talking to myself most of the time.

Yes, the idea of divisional threads is still in mind but I'll wait on it a bit. I can guess that the Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool etc (big clubs) threads are going to be in high demand. Maybe even a sub-section called 'The Premiership' with the demanded threads inside would be an idea still. Similar to the player creation centre.
Any thoughts?

Paul, you should put this idea in a separate thread. As a poll, perhaps.
Ask the members if they would like separate team threads or divisional threads.

Good idea. I don't think it's geting much of a look-in here.
Oh, and anyone else for Accrington Stanley apart from Badger? ;)

Accrington Stanley.
The important question is whether Accrington is a title? Like Lieutenant, General Major, and so forth.
Mr Stanley would've done. But no. They had to be inventive. Accrington. I mean, come on?
I want an Accrington Stanley thread. In fact, no. A forum dedicated to it. In fact, multiple fora. Three would be nice, but I'll settle for four. Me and Badger could reminisce with each other in there about things we don't actually both share memories of. That'd be fun.
