Player focus - Thierry Henry

http://myhero.com/images/guest/g18560/hero18105/g18560_u15039_thierry-henry-shoots.jpg

Full name: Thierry Daniel Henry
Date of birth: August 17, 1977
Place of birth: Les Ulis, Paris, France
Height: 1.88m (6 ft 2 in)
Nickname(s): Titi, TH14, Va Va Voom
Position: Striker

The list of superlatives that describe this modern-day champion is gigantic. As well as being arguably the best player in the world, Henry is now Arsenal captain and marked his first season as skipper by leading his charges into the Champions League final for the first time, picking up the PFA Player of the season award, and becoming Arsenal's all time record goalscorer.

The Frenchman possesses utterly frightening speed, and is almost undefendable when on form. He seems to glide past players as if they were standing still before passing the ball into the far corner of the goal. His close skill, speed, awareness and vision make him one of the world's great players. Yet his game is not all about scoring - he seems to take as much pleasure in finding his teammates as he does in scoring himself.

The virtuoso striker became Arsenal's all-time leading goalscorer - overtaking Ian Wright - when he netted twice in the Champions League tie against Sparta Prague in October 2005. The France forward's marvellous 2003/04 season fired the Gunners to the Premier League title and he also bagged a quintet of personal awards - the Overseas and Overall Player of the Season, the Premier League Golden Boot, the PFA and FWA Player of the Year awards. Has won both the World Cup and European Championships with France and has become one of the most glittering stars of the game.

His transformation from speedy winger to the complete forward following his move from Juventus was a masterstroke by Arsene Wenger. Henry was voted into the Premier League Overseas Team of the Decade in the 10 Seasons Awards poll and scored his 100th Premier League goal against Southampton in February 2004. He completed a hat-trick of FWA Player of the Year accolades by picking up the 2006 award shortly before agreeing a new four-year contract with the club in May 2006.

Full name: José Antonio Reyes Calderón
Date of birth: September 1, 1983
Place of birth: Utrera, Spain
Height: 5'9" / 1.75 m
Position: Winger/Striker

Quick, skilful and hard-working, Jose Antonio is one of European football's brightest young talents.

The Spaniard signed for Arsenal in late January 2004 for a club record fee. The young Spaniard had been linked with a move to Highbury for months, but in the end, his signing came out of the blue.

Reyes joined his boyhood favourites Sevilla as a 10-year-old and worked his way through the youth teams before signing his first contract when he was just 15. He made his debut just a year later.

In his first full season playing for the club, Reyes scored eight goals and finished as their second-top scorer, as well as playing for the Spanish under-19 and under-21 teams. He ended the following season as Sevilla's top scorer with nine goals and was already being tipped for the top.

In September 2003 he made his full Spanish debut as a half-time subsitute in a friendly against Portugal, and then played his first competitive game three days later. He scored twice in a Euro 2004 qualifier against Armenia, as well as getting five goals for Sevilla in 2003/04.

However, when Arsenal came calling for him, he had to break his ties with the club he loved and take a step up to a big club. He scored five goals in his first half-season with the Gunners, helping them to the league championship.

After months of rumours, on August 31, 2006 it was announced that a deal between Arsenal and Real Madrid had been reached and that the transfer of Jose Antonio Reyes to Real Madrid had been completed.

Carles Puyol Saforcada is a Catalan Spanish footballer who is the current team football of FC Barcelona. He has established himself as one of the best defenders in world football and is a regular in the Spanish national team.

Puyol is a tough, aggressive defender who has the versatility to play both as a full-back and in the centre. His whole-hearted approach makes him a favourite at his club side, Barcelona. Puyol is a vital member of Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard's team, and his tactical ability and know-how also means he is not a man to pick up many yellow cards or, indeed, injuries, both of which factors have meant that he is an ever present in both Europe and domestic competition. His attacking mentality is a result of him playing as a striker in the early years in his boyhood club La Pobla de Segur, after injury problems with his shoulders forced him from his original position of goalkeeper.

Puyol played for Spain at the 2000 Olympics, 2002 FIFA World Cup, Euro 2004 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup; Puyol has been capped over 30 times. He has also played for the Catalan football team in one unofficial friendly.

He went to FC Barcelona B at age 17 in 1996 and in 1999 Coach Louis van Gaal put him into the first team and his debut came on 2 November 1999 against Valladolid, a game FC Barcelona won 0-2. He started as a regular for Barcelona in the right back position but has very successfully converted to center-back, and is now regarded as one of the top centre-backs in the world.

He was first chosen as the captain for Barcelona in the 2003-04 season. In the absence of Raúl due to injury, Puyol has also been called upon to captain the Spanish national team.

May 17, 2006: Barcelona, with Puyol as captain, won the UEFA Champions League, defeating Arsenal FC 2-1 in the final and became the first Catalan captain to raise the UEFA Champions League Trophy.

He was awarded "Best Right-Back in Europe" by UEFA in 2002. He is currently under contract with Barcelona FC till June 30, 2010.

Puyol was awarded the title of UEFA Champions League Defender of the Year 2005-06 on Thursday 24th August 2006.

RCA were celebrating winning the Division 1 title after a 3-0 win over the Helsinki Dragons. A brace from Henry and a Chivu free kick clinched the title for RCA.

Capello was understandably delighted with how the team performed to win the League in such style, but suggested there may still be several changes in the upcoming transfer window. '

'We have done exceptionally well this season, all my players have put in 100% and we have reaped the rewards, i'm proud of every squad member for helping us in this remarkable achievement. However, no-one can relax now, we still have the World Championship League Cup to play for (RCA face Club BOCA in the Semi-Finals) and 2 League games left. They must show me they still have the desire to perform for this club. Because we have won the League does not mean we should just stand still, we are still looking to sign some new players and some big names may be coming and going in the upcoming transfer window.''

When asked what it would mean to him for the club to go unbeaten for the entire season, Capello answered candidly ''Obviously, it would be a big achievement, but we have to put that to the back of our minds, we have some big games coming up so will take each game at a time and then see what happens.''

Capello slams Torres rumours

GWP have become increasingly linked to Fernando Torres, with Torres reportedly claiming he will join the club in the transfer window. Capello hit back at such claims by saying ''He is one of the players we are interested in, that's true, but we have 3 fantastic strikers here at the moment and are very happy with them.''

Bojinov deal close

Another player who has been rumoured to be on his way to the club is young Bulgarian striker, Valeri Bojinov, often compared to England's superstar striker, Wayne Rooney. The 19 year old has been in inspired form as of late in an effort to turn round Widnes Vikings poor form and is hot property in European football. Capello admitted a deal was close and hopes to seal it within the next 2 weeks.

Trezeguet: I Quit

http://www.juventus.com/Allegati/f_David%20Trezeguet112947031f8 e03d-a995-429e-9c49-b97fccbc4b9.jpg

Trezeguet has shocked the footballing world by claiming he is swapping the colours of Racing Club Avenido for bitter rivals, Galaxy FC.

It is now a mystery whether he will make another appearance for RCA, with Martins waiting in the wings. Despite scoring an impressive 16 goals in 21 appearances, he is not happy with the latest rumours that Italian manager, Fabio Capello is ready to invest in 5 new attackers. Capello was furious by his decision and blasted Trezeguet for the ill timing of his bombshell. It is not yet known the fee agreed for the sale of Trezeguet, but one thing's certain; Trezeguet won't be expecting a warm welcome when he returns to face his former employees next season after unexpectedly turning his back on them for their rivals.

Player focus - Wayne Rooney

http://www.nndb.com/people/585/000050435/wayne-rooney.jpg

Full name: Wayne Mark Rooney
Date of birth: October 24, 1985
Place of birth: Liverpool, England
Height: 5 ft 10 in (178 cm)
Nickname(s): Wazza, El Blanco Pele, Roonaldo.
Position: Forward

Wayne Rooney is an English footballer considered by many to be the best young talent in world football.

His boyhood team was always Everton and he made his debut at just 16. His love for his home town club was famously bore out when he wore a T-shirt reading "Once a blue, Always a blue". T-shirt's aside, however, he would end up playing just two seasons with Everton before demanding, and then executing, a transfer.

He currently plays for the Premiership club Manchester United and the England national football team. He normally played as a second striker to Ruud van Nistelrooy for his club team before van Nistelrooy's move to Real Madrid C.F., although during 2005-06, he has shown his versatility as a player by shifting to the midfield and playing on both flanks. He wears number 8 for his club team and wears number 9 for his national team.

Rooney was brought up in an urban area of eastern Liverpool called Croxteth, where he and his two brothers attended the local De La Salle Catholic School.

Although he has been under an intense media spotlight since first arriving on the scene in 2002, it was not until his performances at the Euro 2004 that he gained a reputation on the world stage, as he spearheaded the English attack, scoring four goals. England coach Sven-Göran Eriksson compared his impact to that made by the legendary Brazilian, Pelé, at a similar age during the 1958 World Cup. Rooney is also on the cover of FIFA 2007 in England.

Player focus - Cristian Chivu

http://www.goal.com/resultsimg/3031.jpg

Full name: Cristian Eugen Chivu
Date of birth: October 26, 1980
Place of birth: Reşiţa, Romania
Height: 1.83 m
Nickname: Cristi
Position(s): Centre Back, Left back, sweeper, centre midfield, left wing

The fantastic Romanian first played football as a professional at CSM Reşiţa and later Universitatea Craiova. While at Universitatea Craiova, the Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam took notice and recruited him in 1999. In the same year, he was chosen to represent Romania Under-20 team.

It was at Ajax when he developed a reputation as a reliable defender. The Ajax manager at that time, Ronald Koeman realized the Romanian's authority on the field and made him captain of the team in 2001. Under Chivu's captainship, Ajax dominated the Dutch Eredivisie for a few years along with the contribution of other sensational young Ajax players such as Rafael van der Vaart and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He has been instrumental in helping Ajax making through to the respected Champions League quarter-finals in 2002, and developed into one of the greatest defenders in world football.

In 2003, Roma expressed interest in getting Chivu's service. At first, there were a few disputes in the purchase. Roma had an enormous debt and there was a possibility of Roma not being able to pay the promised sum. Later, Roma failed to get a bank guarantee before the transfer deadline. Eventually however, Roma purchased the Romanian for €21m.

Chivu has played for the Romanian national team over 40 times. He played for his country in Euro 2000. He has continually been linked with offers from the likes of Barcelona, AC Milan and Inter Milan but has opted to stay in Rome.

Played his last game for GWP?

Capello is rumoured to be ready to sensationally drop David Trezeguet and replace him with Obafemi Martins for the World Champions League Final against FC Castelleon. He believes lining up the lightning fast Nigerian alongside Golden boot winner, Thierry Henry, will give his side the edge with their frightening pace in attack.

Big deals in the Pipeline

GWP have recently been linked with many of the world's leading stars, and manager, Fabio Capello, has not denied these rumours. ''We are in the market for top stars, I plan to keep this club moving forward and want to retain the title next season, no player should be out of our reach. I assure the fans they will be very pleased with the changes I plan during the upcoming transfer window.''

CHIVU FURY OVER PENALTY DECISION

http://www.einformatii.ro/poze_articole/articol_04_1112671823_p.jpg

Fury over penalty controversy

Romanian superstar, Cristian Chivu, has blasted referee, Graham Poll, for his decision to award FC Castelleon a penalty in the 117th minute of the WCL Final. The confident defender appeared to win the ball as Samuel Eto'o tried to burst clear, but a penalty was controversially given, which Ronaldinho subsequently smashed home to win the cup for Castelleon in a thrilling 4-3 win.

"It was a disgraceful decision, I clearly won the ball, Eto'o dived to con the referee, he (Poll) should not be refereeing in such a big match, he's not up to the job."

Chivu's team-mates had come from behind twice, and even took a 3-2 lead through Michael Essien, only for Maldini to equalise minutes later, which took the match into extra time.

Final score:

RCA---------3-4-------Castellon
Friedrich 39-------------Eto'o 20
Henry 58---------------Ronaldinho 47, 118 (pen)
Essien 69-----------------Maldini 71

Capello happy despite loss

Capello has heaped praise on his players despite their last-gasp WCL Final loss to D1 rivals, FC Castellon.

"We showed great character and spirit to come from behind twice and take a 3-2 lead, we were unfortunate to lose, especially in the circumstances we did. Castellon were the better team, but that doesn't make the penalty decision any easier to take. I'm proud of my players, they gave it their all, and it is a huge achievement to win the League title unbeaten and reach the WCL Final, next season we will try to go one step further, we can do it, i'm confident of that."

Rumours are rife today that RCA are on the verge of announcing the signing of Spanish sensation, 'El Nino', Fernando Torres.

"It is a done deal. I'm delighted to sign for the Champions" beamed Torres.

"I can achieve big things there. I will be working with other great players, like Thierry Henry and Wayne Rooney, and we can do good things next season. I can't wait to get out on the pitch in RCA colours."

RCA Unveil ''Prince Poldi''

http://im.rediff.com/sports/2006/jun/24poldi.jpg
Latest signing

Fabio Capello added yet more talent to his star-studded squad, with the signing of Lukas Podolski. "Prince Poldi" has been in stunning form over the past year and the Italian manager was naturally delighted to secure the signature of the 19 year old German.

"Lukas is a phenomenal talent. I'm very happy he has joined us, he is up there with the likes of Rooney, Robben and Torres as one of the best young players in Europe. He has pace, excellent technique, a wonderful touch, superb finishing and is very strong for his size; he will be a big player for us. We have fantastic competition in attacking areas with the likes of Henry, Rooney and Podolski, and will provide a major threat to any team."

Maduro and Given captured

Lukas Podolski was not the only player to join Capello's troops today, with promising Dutch youngster, Hedwiges Maduro, and Republic of Ireland stopper, Shay Given, also being added to the squad.

''The midfield area needed some cover and signing someone of the talent of Maduro was much needed'' remarked Capello.

''He often keeps Marc Van Bommel and Edgar Davids out of the Dutch national team, so that shows how good he is. He is just 19 and it is frightening how great he may become. He will also be able to provide cover in defence, like Michael (Essien), if it is needed. Shay Given will provide strong competition to Petr (Cech). We now have two of the best goalkeepers in Europe in our squad.'' claimed Capello.

When questionned over possibly signings, Capello stated "I am satisfied with our squad, but will look for 2 or 3 more signings before the start of the new season. We are looking for players of exceptional talent who could improve the team further and maybe take us to the next level."

German talent ready to resurrect career

Fabio Capello was busy in the market yesterday, securing German superstar, Sebastien Deisler, on a season long loan from Asgard FC, with Alexander Hleb heading in the opposite direction on a loan deal. The German's career has been riddled with injuries, but will hope this move can resurrect his career, and will be pushing for a place in the starting line-up.

Young English talent, Jermaine Pennant, was also snapped up for a minimal fee. Capello was full of praise for the winger, comparing his crossing ability to David Beckham's.
''Jermaine will offer us a lot. His crossing is out of this world, he's probably the best crosser of the ball England has seen since David Beckham. He can scare opposition with his pace and dribbling ability, and prove a big threat on the wing.''

RCA Kick Off Season Against Newcomers

Fabio Capello's men's title credentials will be tested early this season, with a tough opening fixture against Division new boys, Damascus FC. Avenido's opponents had a superb season last year, acheiving promotion and going on a superb run to the WCL Semi-Finals.

Capello had this to say about the draw. ''We have a tough start to the season, going to Damascus FC is never going to be easy, so i'll be looking for a strong performance from my men. In the transfer window, they (Damascus) managed to acquire Adriano, Deco, Sami Hyypia and Ryan Babel so will only become stronger, are likely to provide a stern test for any team this season. We must get off to a good start as it sets a tone for the rest of the season''.

RCA complete their League campaign with ties at Galaxy FC and at home to FC Castellon, in which many are already suggesting may be title-deciders. Capello understands that belief: ''We end with 2 very tough games, against the teams who finished directly below us last season. Galaxy will prove to be strong competition again, so it will be crucial for us to be in top form and on a winning run at the end of the season. Castellon have lost a key player in Carles Puyol, but have a very solid team, they have competition in all areas and are sound in every department. These type of matches can decide Championships.''

GWP WIN THE SUPER CUP

RCA defeated WCL Cup Winners, Castellon FC 2-0 to add the Super Cup to their trophy cabinet. Capello's men gained some revenge having lost in extra time in the WCL Final in the final game of last season to Castellon. Carles Puyol put in an inspired performance against his old club, with the dangerous looking of Robinho, Ronaldinho and Eto'o being subdued by Puyol, Nesta, Essien and co.
Wayne Rooney opened the scoring with a delicate chip over Heurelmo Gomes after being put clean through on goal from a superb pass from Xabi Alonso, before Spanish substitute, Fernando Torres raced clear to add a second and settle the match.

WES BROWN SNAPPED UP

Toughman Wes Brown has been brought in by Capello to add strength to GWP's defence. The Englishman is capable of playing at centre back or right-back and is regarded by some, including Sir Alex Ferguson, as the best natural defender the country has seen in years.
This move means that it is likely that young Swiss talent, Phillipe Senderos may be loaned out for a season with competition tough for a place in GWP's defence.

Ribery hopes to fly high with the FL Champions this season

Prostigious French talent, Franck Ribery has joined GWP on loan for the season, as backup for German winger, Sebastien Deisler. The tricky dribbler, nicknamed 'Scarface' by some of his fans is set for a glittering career. The 22 year old is known to terrorise defences with his tremendous dribbling skills and pace and will be a key addition to the squad.

In other news, it is rumoured that talented young centre back, Phillipe Senderos is close to agreeing a loan move to an un-named 1st division club in order to get first team football, and Romeo Castelen, Julius Aghahowa, Vikas Dhorasso and Jermaine Pennant are also looking for moves.

Capello: Spending Is Over

Fabio Capello insists that his spending is over, as the transfer window draws to a close. ''I've strengthened the team enough, with the prices in the transfer market currently, it's not wise for me to buy anyone. I'll keep the money I have and may enter the market in the mid-season transfer window. I'm happy with who I have brought in, I feel my squad is now complete''. Due to the 22-man squad limit, 3 players will have to leave GWP, however it is not yet clear which 3 players will be leaving the club. Phillipe Senderos recently snubbed offers from Division 1 clubs to join Merseyside USA where it is likely he will get more first team football. The young Swiss centre-back was out of favour since the signing of Wes Brown. It appears that the last signing of the summer by GWP was that of French wing wizard, Franck Ribery. Capello's biggest deal in off-season was securing the services of super shot-stopper, Petr Cech, and England's best footballer, Wayne Rooney, for a staggering £80m fee plus the athletic German goalkeeper, Timo Hildebrand.

Player Focus - Joao Moutinho

http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Photo/competitions/Under21/366679_MEDIUMSQUARE.jpg

Full name: João Filipe Iria Santos Moutinho
Date of birth: 8 September 1986
Place of birth: Portimão, Portugal
Height: 170cm
Nickname: Baixinho
Position: Central midfielder/Offensive midfielder

As a rising star in European football, João Moutinho has grown into the complete midfielder, a true box-to-box player with a keen eye for a pass and tremendous vision. Despite his age, he has already shown his organisational qualities, and reads the game masterfully, dictating the pace whenever it is needed. His slender frame belies his physical presence and strength in the tackle.

João comes from a family of athletes: his father is a former player himself, his mother a track runner, his older brother and cousin are also football players.

Although small in stature at 5'7" and 61 kg he lacks nothing in talent and spirit. His great performances against some of Europe's top clubs made him famous around Europe, and he is one of Sportings crowd favourites and top young players since Cristiano Ronaldo.

In an award show at the end of his debut season 2004-05 Moutinho was awarded "Rookie of the Year" and "Best Midfielder" in Portugal by a poll of the countries several newspapers. The youngster is under contract to Sporting Lisbon until 2010 with a 20 million buyout clause.

A Portugal international player at the age of 18, he made his debut with Portugal's shirt against Russia in the World Cup's Qualyfing. He will continue his run with the national team with a friendly against Denmark and Portugal's first Euro 2008 qualifying game against Iceland.

Yaya Toure Signs In Shock Deal

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41017000/jpg/_41017978_yayatoure270.jpg
Yaya Toure is "the complete midfielder"

Just less than a week ago, Fabio Capello stated that his spending was over, however that proved not to be the case, as late on Tuesday night, Ivory Coast star, Yaya Toure signed in a cut-priced £1m deal which proved too good to let go. The young African is already being touted as this generation's ''Patrick Vieira'' and has been receiving rave reviews after several extremely impressive performances. Fabio Capello had words of encouragement for the 22 year old. ''The guy has it all, he is very powerful, has wonderful balance and technique, great pace, and he can pass and shoot very well. He has great agility for a man of his size, and he can go from box to box, he is the complete midfielder. I can understand the comparisons with Vieira.''

It is thought that Dutch prodigy, Hedwiges Maduro, who has been keeping the likes of Mark Van Bommel and Edgar Davids out of the Dutch side, may now be loaned out for the season as it seems Yaya Toure is a bigger part of Capello's plans for the season ahead.

Yaya spoke of his delight following the move; "It is a dream come true. This team is full of world class players and has some of the most gifted young talents in the world. Alonso and Essien are both young but already two of the best midfielders you'll find, and Maduro and Fabregas are amongst the most talented young midfielders you'll find in Europe, it will be a joy to work alongside such players. I'm looking forward to playing under Fabio's guidance, he is the best manager around, i'm looking forward to winning some silverware."

GWP Get Off To Dream Start

The defending champions were firing on all cylinders for their first game of the season against Division 1 newcomers, Damascus FC. Despite leaving Thierry Henry on the bench, Fabio Capello still had firepower in Fernando Torres and Wayne Rooney. It was the former who got GWP off to a dream start, when the Spaniard got on the end of a pinpoint cross from the impressive Sebastien Deisler and managed to direct the ball past Victor Valdes with an outstretched boot. Capello's men, confident at the back with Puyol and Nesta forming a powerful duo, continued to attack at will for the rest of the half and their domination paid off on the stroke of half-time with Wayne Rooney thundering the ball past Valdes for his first of the season, after good work on the left by Ashley Cole and Florent Malouda. The opposition must have had a stern talking to by their manager at the break, as they came out a different team in the second half. Adriano looked more lively and Cech had to be at his very best to tip over a 25 yard thunderbolt by the powerful Brazilian. As Damascus continued to press GWP, the Champions always looked dangerous on the counter, and it was in that fashion that they sealed the 3 points. As Deco and Van Bommel attempted a one-two, Xabi Alonso managed to intercept the ball and lofted a 60 yard ball over the defence which Torres latched onto, before going round the 'keeper and slotting into the back of an empty net. It was harsh on the division 1 debutants, who later came very close again to opening their account in the top tier, with Adriano and then Deco, testing Petr Cech. As the game drew on, both teams seemed to tire, but Nigel de Jong still had the energy to make a brilliant run through the centre, and was picked out by Rooney and he finished with aplomb, curling the ball past Valdes to pick up a stunning 4-0 win.

When the first two groups were drawn, there were a lot of top teams left, I would have preferred us to have been drawn in one of the first two groups, but i'm happy we are not in the group of death (Group D). GWP Set League Win Record

Following 3-1 victories over Norway Utd and Alizee Lyonnais, GWP FC have broken their own consecutive League wins record, with 11 League wins on the bounce. The record previously stood at 9. After a thrilling 2-2 draw with FC Castellon midway through last season, GWP have been on a sensational run which has led them to the League title and a 100% win record in the early stages of the season so far.

Match Report: GWP FC 3-1 Alizee Lyonnais

Fabio Capello named a full strength side for the third game of the season, as he looked to build upon convincing wins over FC Damascus and Norway Utd.
GWP dominated throughout the early stages, with both Reyes and Deisler coming close with stinging drives from distance.

It took the League Champions just 7 minutes to break the deadlock, with Cole picking out Reyes who fed a delightful ball into the path of Xabi Alonso, who slotted home in style.

The goal seemed to galvanise Capello's side, as they took the game to Lyonnais, testing their defence with teasing crosses into the area and attempted killer passes. Coupet was in fine form, denying Thierry Henry from close range on two occasions. However, the French goalkeeper could do nothing to stop a goal late into the first half as Deisler whipped in a cross which Wayne Rooney met on the volley to fizz the ball past Coupet and into the back of the net.

Capello's decision to field Cole and Puyol as full-backs was paying dividence, as they nullified the threat from gifted wingers, Simao and Joaquin. Puyol, putting in a man of the match performance, gallloped forward halfway through the second half, and drilled in a shot which looked to be heading wide, only for Thierry Henry to slide in to convert a third goal to seal the 3 points.

Alizee pulled a goal back in the dying seconds, with a magnificent 30 yard free kick from Juninho Pernambucano, after Ashley Cole tripped Joaquin Sanchez, but the result was never looked in doubt following Alonso's opener, and Capello must be delighted with his men's early season form, as they kept hold of their 100% record, leapfrogging FC Castellon to regain top spot. Next up for the League Champions is a tricky away match against The London Lions.

Players Rested For Cup Tie

Fresh off an important League win, GWP kick off their WCL Campaign with a trip to New Anfield later today, to face Rafa FC. It is rumoured that several star players may be rested.
Capello had this to say on his way to the team hotel. "The WCL is very important to us, but I have faith in my whole squad, so i'll simply pick a team of 11 who I think can get the job down and pick up the 3 points. I have spoken to my players, and they all say they are fully fit and ready to play, but it's best to let everyone play as often as possible, to keep team morale high and have them in peak condition. Rafa FC have yet to win this season, so they're likely to give it their all, and i'm sure they would love nothing more than to beat the Division 1 champions, that would give them a huge lift. They have a good side, so we will have to be careful."

GWP In 5 Star Showing

Having started the season in blistering form, Capello took the decision to rest several players. Cech, Chivu, De Jong, Reyes, Rooney, Deisler and Essien were all rested, as the likes of Ribery, Heitinga and Given were given their chance to shine. They did just that. Franck Ribery posed a thread throughout, and it was he who gave the League Champions the lead, just 3 minutes into the game, GWP continuing their habit for scoring early goals.

Lukas Podolski was a livewire alongside and has surely staked a claim for a run in the first team. In the 27th minute, the German sensation skillfully took a pass from Yaya Toure in his stride and as Juanito flew in, fired in a thunderbolt from 25 yards out. Silvio Proto flew across his goal and somehow managed to get a hand to it, but couldn't keep the thunderous shot out.

It was the German who added a third early in the second half. Having played remarkably well in the first 45 minutes, GWP didn't let go of their firm grip of the game. Thierry Henry chipping a delicate pass through to Podolski who shot first time past the Belgian shotstopper. 15 minutes later, Prince Poldi grabbed a fantastic hat-trick. Michael Essien burst through challenges in midfield and played the ball into the path of Podolski, who turned Evra inside out, before curling the ball past Proto.

GWP were not done there, and added a 5th late on. Thierry Henry playing a one-two with Ribery, before neatly finishing left footed. The League Champions find themselves on 12 points, with 4 wins from 4 and leading the division by goal difference. Division 1 newcomers, Newton Heath, are providing shock competition, having won four from four themselves, and thrashing WCL Champions, FC Castellon, 5-1!

Henry: Rooney's A Phenomenon

http://fantasyfootball.telegraph.co.u k/arts/graphics/2005/10/12/lpanic12.jpg
In explosive form

Golden boot holder, Thierry Henry, has sung the praises of his young strike partner, Wayne Rooney, and described him as the best young player he's ever seen. "Wayne is incredible, you saw it again against FC Damascus, he does things you don't think are possible, it's a pleasure to be in the same side as him. He has everything - pace, power, skill, agility, determination, bottle, bravery - he's the ultimate modern day player. He works and battles so hard, sometimes you think he's a central midfielder, he's everywhere. He is definitely the best player under the age of 21 I have ever seen play, and he's only going to get better."

Henry's words came off the back of another impressive win for the Champions, with a 3-0 victory over FC Damascus, with Rooney scoring two, before assisting Henry for a third. The opener came midway through the first half. The Inspirational Englishman drove through challenges from Marquez and Hyypia before slamming the ball low past Victor Valdes. The goal seemed to rattle Damascus, with GWP having chances to add a second before half-time. Reyes was put clean through by Essien, but scuffed his effort wide, and then it was the turn of Thierry Henry to be left frustrated, as he saw his left foot volleye parried out to safety by Valdes.

The important second goal would come eventually. Wayne Rooney's persistence paying off, as he forced Sami Hyypia into a mistake on the edge of his own box, allowing him to roll the ball past Valdes for his second of the game, and ninth of the season in all competitions. On a hat-trick, Rooney looked to test Valdes from long range, but saw his effort fly over. His next touch, though, was majestic, Henry passing the ball just behind Rooney, who managed to spin and flick the ball with the back of his foot into the path of Henry, who hit the ball first time, curling it round Valdes outstretched arm, and into the top right corner. The win keeps GWP on top of their qualifying group, and in pole position to make the knockout stages.

GWP Stay On Track

http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2006/soccer/specials/world_cup/2006/07/06/rongen.notebook/p1_ribery_0706.jpg
On target

Despite fielding a weakened team, GWP managed to take a vital 3 points against second placed, Newton Heath. Cech, Rooney, Henry, Nesta, Puyol, Alonso and Reyes were all rested as young stars such as Cesc Fabregas, Yaya Toure, Franck Ribery and Lukas Podolski were given the nod.

The champions were out of sorts for the majority of the game, but managed to take the lead in somewhat fortunate circumstances. Florent Malouda brought the ball forward on the left wing, and sent in a deep cross, which Emanuelson, who made his first ever appearance at centre back headed against his own crossbar, leaving a simple tap in for Ribery.

Torres doubled the lead on the hour mark with a trademark finish. Fabregas put 'El Nino' clean through on goal with a beautifully weighted ball, and he made no mistake, placing the ball past Isaksson.

It was a sucker blow to Newton Heath, but they responded in good fashion, putting GWP on the backfoot, and their effort paid off when Turkish hitman,Tuncay Sanli, rifled home from long range past Shay Given. The game could have got worse for Capello's men, as just seconds later, McCarthy stooped at the far post and headed across goal, but Wes Brown was there to clear the ball off the line.

In injury time, as Newton Heath sent men forward, GWP caught them on the counter attack and sealed the win. Yaya Toure was allowed to run with the ball for all of 40 yards, before passing to subsitute Thierry Henry, who curled the ball past the Swedish #1 from close range. The win over their nearest rivals moves them 3 points clear at the top of the table.

GWP Cruise Into Cup Knockout Stages

2 wins in the space of 4 days for the Fantasy League Champions have ensured group stage qualification for both the D1 Cup and WCL. GWP will enter the D1 Cup 2nd round stage as top seeds having topped their group, with their mean defence having conceded just 1 goal in the Cup competitions this season.

WCL, Matchday 3: Bel Air 0-3 GWP FC

Thierry Henry firing his side into an early lead, before Nesta doubled the lead with a bullet header on the half hour mark. GWP continued to press, and killed off the game early in the second half with a well taken goal by Mikael Essien.

D1 Cup, Matchday 3: Galaxy FC 1-2 GWP FC

Fabio Capello named the same side for the trip to Galaxy FC. Player fatigue was noticeable early on, with GWP struggling to get into their stride. Indeed, there were minimal chances created at either end in the first half, with Cech and Hildebrand each only forced into action on one occasion, with long range efforts from Lampard and Deisler respectively.

In the second half, the game sprang into life following a crunching tackle by Mikael Essien on Frank Lampard. Players from both teams surrounded the referee, and the Ghanian was lucky to escape with just a booking. This, however, made the game a far greater spectacle, with both teams going for the jugular. It was Capello's men who opened the scoring, with a wonderful half volley from Xabi Alonso which caught German shotstopper, Timo Hildebrand, well and truly off guard. Galaxy did not let this setback affect their play, with Mourinho urging his men to take the game to the champions. They managed to put GWP on the backfoot, something not seen very often this season, and they managed to pull level through Andriy Shevchenko. Arjen Robben cutting the ball inside the penalty area for Frank Lampard, who saw his shot well parried by Petr Cech, only for Shevchenko to stab in the rebound.

With the game on a knive-edge, Essien foolishly clattered into Rosicky, and promptly received his marching orders leaving a struggling GWP side with 10 men. Capello made necessary changes, with Fabregas on for Rooney, and Reyes switching to a more attacking position. The match was in the balance, but GWP showed the heart of champions with a tremendously courageous and determined effort. Thierry Henry sprang the offside trap, and got on the end of a perfectly weighted pass from Cesc Fabregas, before rounding Hildebrand and rolling the ball into an open net. The usually calm and collective, Fabio Capello, could barely hide his delight, something fellow manager, Jose Mourinho did not take too kindly to. Frustration set in for Galaxy, who resorted to kicking out at the opposition. Lampard, Del Horno, Robben and Helguera all receiving yellow cards late on for malicious challenges. GWP had the chance to kill the game off late on, but first Lukas Podolski, and later Jose Antonio Reyes were denied by the woodwork. The final whiste blew and GWP had qualified for the knockout stages with a game spare.

Castellon FC 2-2 GWP FC

Meanwhile, the club's 16 League match winning run finally came to a halt today, with Eto'o grabbing a point for Castellon FC with the last touch of the game. The late setback cost GWP the chance to claim a 100% record in all competitions at the mid-season stage, but Fabio Capello will be happy in the knowledge his team have a healthy 8 point lead.

Capello Comments On Transfer Speculation

Joaquin: A Done Deal?

http://www.lavinotinto.com/archivos_noticias/joaquin_sanchez_espana200x140. jpg

In an unusually frank interview, Fabio Capello revealed some of his summer transfer targets, and commented on recent transfer speculation, linking the champions with a move for Spanish wing wizard, Joaquin Sanchez.

Capello admitted he is a big fan of the Alizee Lyonnais star, but was dismissive of rumours this week that a Franck Ribery for Joaquin Sanchez swap had been agreed.

"Yes, I have read the stories in Marca and L'Equipe, but they are far from the truth. He (Joaquin) has been a target of mine, since the day I joined this club, and we have tried many times for him, but right now, we have Franck Ribery, who is playing very well. We also have Sebastien (Deisler), who has been a great servant to this club. I am happy with our current wingers, however, I am always looking for ways to improve my team, and I like Joe Cole. He is one of the players I would like to sign, for sure. I hope Franck will stay at this club, he has high spirits at this moment".

RCA Preparing Adriano Bid?

Adriano Leite Ribeiro

Rumours are rife that Fabio Capello is on the verge of sealing a sensational deal for Adriano. Most rumours suggest Lukas Podolski and Mikael Essien will be used as bait, to sign the Brazilian gladiator. Fabio Capello refused to comment on speculation, candidly revealing "Adriano is a player I have admiration for, but Lukas has a future at RCA. He is a wonderful talent."

Champions Ready To Swoop For Ballack

Heading to the champions?

Newspaper reports suggest German goalscoring midfielder, Michael Ballack, is looking for a move away from relegation strugglers, Lisbon Lions, with Racing Club Avenido his preferred destination. Despite Xabi Alonso, Michael Essien and Cesc Fabregas impressing for RCA in recent games, it is thought that Capello has made Michael Ballack his number one summer transfer target, and is happy with the reports coming from the Ballack camp, with the German International reportedly keen on a move to Racing Club.

RCA Strike Ayala Deal

Ayala will add defensive solidity

In a move that will further strengthen the club's defence, Fabio Capello has struck a deal with Offside Athletic, to sign Argentine hardman, Roberto Ayala. The deal sees Wes Brown move in the opposite direction, with explosive winger, Aaron Lennon, joining him on loan, and a sum of £3m.

Despite having some of the world's best attackers at his disposal, Capello has made it clear he feels it is defence's that win championships, so will be delighted to add another world class defender to the ranks.

Racing Sign £10m Moutinho

Moutinho has recently been named "Rookie of the Year" and "Best Midfielder" in Portugal

Racing Club Avenido have completed the signing of prodigious young talent, Joao Moutinho, for a sum close to £10m. The high fee may raise some eyebrows, however Capello is in no doubt the 19 year old Portuguese midfielder is set for a glittering future.

Capello had the following to say about his latest signing:

"Joao is mature beyond his years. He is capable of playing any position in midfield but he is primarily a centre midfielder. His main caracteristics are his quality passing, high workrate and great vision. Despite being small in stature, Moutinho is a courageous and physical player never shying away from tough tackles. He also has a strong free-kick, takes an excellent penalty and has surprisingly good heading."

Fabio Capello was quick to seal the signature of Moutinho when he heard the youngster was looking for a move away from Minof's Gang.

The club have already received offers to take Joao on loan, but at this time, Capello is unsure whether he will be kept in the squad for next season. One thing is for sure, Moutinho has a very bright future in the game.

Racing Claim 30 Game Unbeaten Run

A Fernando Torres brace and Lukas Podolski scorcher clinched a 3-2 win over Alizee Lyonnais, meaning the Fantasy League Champions have now gone an astonishing 30 League games unbeaten. The run began with a resounding 4-0 win over Alicante Club de Fútbol, and they have since scored 80 goals, helping them claim the League title last season and hold top spot since the opening fixture this season.

Racing Club Avenido 3-2 Galaxy FC

The prizes that await the winners

Racing Club are on the verge of reaching the WCL Final for a second consecutive year, after a thrilling 3-2 win over Galaxy FC, with Fernando Torres, Michael Essien and Franck Ribery getting on the scoresheet.

Both sides flew out of the traps, but it was the League Champions who had the first meaningful shot, with Xabi Alonso forcing Timo Hildebrand into a smart save at his near post. Galaxy FC hit back with a flurry of quick passing, before Frank Lampard played a one-two with the magnificent Tomas Rosicky, and rifled a shot from long range onto the post. Petr Cech looked a beaten man, so could count himself lucky the shot rebounded off the outside of the post.

The game continued to be a very open affair, which suited both teams attacking mindset. Fabio Capello's men drew first blood in the 21st minute. Cesc Fabregas with a tremendous pass to Fernando Torres, who took the ball in his stride, burst past Alex da Costa, and hit a low, accurate shot, which
the athletic Hildebrand did extremely well to save, but Wayne Rooney was there to smash in the rebound.

The goal did not seem to affect Mourinho'a troops, who knocked the ball around confidently, and forced Cech into a number of decent saves. Despite threatening an equaliser, Racing Club managed to find some breathing space just before half-time, when Thierry Henry led a breathtaking counter attack, sprinting past a number of the opposition, before squaring to Michael Essien, who tucked the ball away comfortably.

Galaxy started the second half brightly, and got the goal they richly deserved in the 51st minute - Ruud van Nistelrooy the scorer, after neat build up play, between, Makelele, Rosicky and Robben. The Dutchman finishing in style, firing the ball into the roof of the net from 10 yards.

Capello decided to take a more defensive approach for the remainder of the game, bringing Jose Antonio Reyes and Franck Ribery on for Wayne Rooney and Fernando Torres. It was a move that worked out for him, as the brilliant young Frenchman, Franck Ribery, restored Racing's 2 goal cushion, after getting on the end of a Jose Antonio Reyes pass. Hildebrand getting a finger to the ball, but not being able to prevent the goal.

The game still did not look over, with Galaxy continuing their gun-ho approach. Tomas Rosicky and Cristiano Ronaldo both hitting the woodwork from long-range, while Thierry Henry shot just wide at the other end.

As the game came to the closing stages, Thierry Henry was becoming more isolated in attack, with Ribery and Reyes concentrating on their defensive duties. This allowed Galaxy to dominate possession, however Nesta, Essien and Chivu were doing a fine job limiting the chances that came their way. In the 87th minute, however, Tomas Rosicky managed to break the defensive wall, putting Arjen Robben in the clear, who slid the ball under the advancing Petr Cech into the back of the net, to set up a grandstand finale.

Time ran out on Galaxy FC, and Racing Club Avenido were left to celebrate a crucial win over their League rivals.

A mouthwatering Semi-Final tie against Newton Heath now awaits them.

Racing Club Avenido claimed back-to-back League titles, after a 2-0 victory over Bel Air FC.

Lukas Podolski opened the scoring mid-way through the first half, with a neat finish, following good interplay between Xabi Alonso and Wayne Rooney.

Capello's men dominated proceedings, and sealed victory with a close range strike late on, from Ivorian, Yaya Toure.

The Champions will be hoping to make it a double, when they face Galaxy FC in the Cup Final later this weekend.

Comments/Reaction:

Fabio Capello:

Building a powerful empire

"This League campaign has been more difficult than last, but our fighting spirit and determination has been there for all to see. We are a young team (Racing's average player age is just 23 years old) but with experience, quality and endless potential; we can get better and better.

The thing that pleases me the post is we never give up, and always believe we can win, even in the most difficult situations, and facing adversity. Winning consecutive championships is never easy, but when you manage to instill belief and go on a winning run, it makes it much easier, as my squad's confidence is so high.

Every player has been fantastic this season, but we must not forget our ambitions are not quite fulfilled. We have a Cup Final to look forward to, and winning that would make this season even better than last."

Thierry Henry:

http://www.arsenal.com/Images/h/henry29032006.jpg
2x Golden boot winner?

"For me, this season has been the best (in Avenido's short history). Last season, we went the whole season undefeated, but when you are defending champions, it becomes twice as difficult, so for us to win the League title, playing faster, exciting and attacking football, while not conceding many goals, is a really great thing. I have really enjoyed playing alongside Wayne. He makes things easy for me. When you are alongside a player like him, it brings out the best in you. Even when we are not in the team, Fernando (Torres) and Lukas (Podolski) come in and do a great job. Their contributions should not be overlooked. Having 4 top strikers at the club is a huge benefit. I am delighted about how the season has gone, but it is not over yet."

Carles Puyol:

http://www.fc-barcelone.com/puyolmu.jpg
'Captain Fantastic' led the troops to glory

"As captain of this club, it gives me great pleasure to be lifting the Cup. I won the WCL last season, which gave me a great feeling, but nothing can match this. I was quite nervous when I came here, and took the captain's armband. I felt it might have raised a few eyebrows within the camp, but the whole squad welcomed me, and I now feel at home. The whole squad must be given credit. It wasn't one or two players who got us here, but all 22 players made a good contribution."

Wayne Rooney:

Boy wonder thrilled the crowds

"Lifting the trophy, and just being alongside it, gives me goosebumps. I've dreamed of this moment, since I was a boy. It's brilliant to be crowned champions, and I hope it's the first of many for me, here.

Ashley Cole:

Delighted with title win

"I'm over the moon, to be honest. You know, when you're defending a title, you have a target on your chest, and everyone wants to beat you, but we have a great fighting spirit at this club, and being around so many world class players can only lift your game. I definitely think i'm benefitting, being alongside players like Carles (Puyol) , Cristian (Chivu) and Alessandro (Nesta). Our defence has been brilliant, but the boys in attack make our job much easier. It's great for us to go out there, knowing we have players like Thierry (Henry), Jose (Reyes), Fernando (Torres) and Wayne (Rooney) who can always put the ball in the back of the net.

I'm not looking to the next season yet, as we want to finish the job, and win the double. That would be the perfect ending."

RCA Clinch Historic Double

http://www.mac-hermann-trophy.org/Trophy.gif http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/6504/d15573sw.jpg

Racing Club Avenido were left celebrating a domestic double, after a highly entertaining 3-1 win over Galaxy FC in the Cup Final.

Despite having Michael Essien controversially sent off for a lunge on Frank Lampard, the League Champions managed to win a highly entertaining encounter.

The game got off to a frantic start, with both sides fielding attacking line-ups, and using gung-ho tactics. Ruud van Nistelrooy came the closest early on, poking a Arjen Robben cross past the post, when he perhaps should have done better.

Fernando Torres forced Timo Hildebrand into smart save, with a diving header, via a delicate pass from the superb, Xabi Alonso.

The Champions broke the deadlock by a familiar source....Thierry Henry. Henry controlled Fabregas' long ball and took a left footed shot first time, from the edge of the area, which crept past Hildebrand and nestled in the back of the net. Delight swept round the stadium, as Fabio Capello looked on calmly.

Henry had a chance to give Racing daylight, but failed to control a clever pass from Wayne Rooney, which would have put him in the clear.

He was made to pay just minutes after, as Frank Lampard rifled a 25 yard screamer into the top corner, as Petr Cech could only stand watching, helplessly. The game then took a shocking twist, as Michael Essien was sent off for an aggressive lunge on Lampard. The Ghanian appeared to make no contact with the Englishman, but was given his marching orders by referee, Kim Milton Nielsen. Capello's men had to withstand an onslaught up until half-time, with Nesta and Puyol at their superb best.

The beginning of the second half continued in the same vein as the late stages of the first, with Petr Cech making a stunning reflex save from van Nistelrooy, and saving a Arjen Robben volley from point blank range.

A swift counter saw Racing edge their noses in front, once more. Fernando Torres picking the ball just outside his penalty area, before spraying a ball outwide to Ashley Cole, who played a cross-field ball to Thierry Henry, who pushed the ball past Alex, before blasting the ball home. It was a classic RCA goal. They have proved themselves as a tremendous danger from breakneck speed counter-attacks, and used the tactic to their advantage again, when it mattered the most.

2 goal hero

Yaya Toure was brought on for Torres to add more strength in midfield. That did little to stop the flow of the game, with the match resembling a basketball match, rather than a football match.

With minutes left on the clock, Wayne Rooney appeared to be trying to run the clock down by taking the ball to the corner flag, when he audaciously nutmegged Del Horno, before playing the ball back to Cesc Fabregas, who nudged the ball onto substitute, Nigel de Jong, who fired home from 20 yards. The players could hardly contain their emotions, as fellow squad members and staff swept onto the pitch, to celebrate a fantastic double.

Capello Ready To Enter The Market

http://www.momentosera.it/F_Capello.jpg

Fabio Capello is expecting to complete the signings of several top players once the transfer window opens later today. He is thought to be hoping to strengthen every area of the squad, to leave them ready for another assault on the title.

"It is true we will be very active in the market. I prefer to sign players at the end of the season, rather than in mid-season, so we're ready for it. Roberto Ayala and Joao Moutinho will join later today, and there's a few more deals on the way, which are close to being finalised."

Capello added "Hedwiges Maduro will be staying on loan for another season, while Nelson Valdez, Phillipe Senderos, Aaron Lennon, Jermaine Pennant, Wes Brown and Nigel Reo-Coker will leave the club."

"I have been given very healthy transfer funds by the board, and willl not be afraid to use them in order to push this team forward."

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Fabio Capello wasted little time strengthening his squad, with the capture of 3 world class players within 48 hours. Esteban Cambiasso, Frank Lampard and Zlatan Ibrahimovic all join the ranks, while the Champions say farewell to Yaya Toure, Ryan Babel, Lukas Podolski and Michael Essien, amongst others.

Fabio Capello spoke of his delight of the recent signings.

"For 2 seasons, we have had an excellent midfield, but lacked a top class goalscoring midfielder. In Frank Lampard, we now have one of the best. He will be very important for us, and i'm sure he will get us many goals this season. Esteban Cambiasso will fill the void left by Essien's departure perfectly. He's a very intelligent player, and will enable Frank Lampard and Cesc Fabregas the freedom to roam."

"Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a player I have always admired. I didn't want Lukas Podolski to leave, but he wanted first team football, which I simply couldn't provide him with here, so I understand his decision. The signing of Zlatan makes the loss of Lukas much easier to take. I'm very happy with my current squad, but i'm still hoping to make 1 or 2 more changes. It's early days."

In other news, Jermaine Pennant has agreed to extend his loan to another season at fast improving Division 2 side, Rafa FC. Hedwiges Maduro's loan move has also been extended at recently promoted, Chacarita FC.

It is expected that the signings of Joao Moutinho, Roberto Ayala and Juan Pablo Sorin will be clinched within the next 24 hours.

Maxi Rodriguez

Fabio Capello tonight spoke of his delight at capturing the Argentine trio, Roberto Ayala, Juan Pablo Sorin and Maxi Rodriguez.

"I am very happy to be signing these players. Roberto Ayala and Juan Pablo Sorin will both add even more depth to our squad, and improve our defensive solidity further."

"Maxi Rodriguez will give us some good options in midfield. He's a tireless worker, and very gifted. He has a good knack of scoring important goals, and that is a very good ability for a midfielder to have. I am sure all three of these players will settle in well here and make good contributions to the team."

Ayala and Sorin both come in from Offside Athletic, with Aaron Lennon, Kieran Richardson, Wes Brown, Dede and Christian Worns all heading in the opposite direction.

Highly rated Argentine winger, Maxi Rodriguez joins in exchange for German star, Sebastien Deisler, versatile Brazilian defender, Gustavo Nery and a sum of £7m.

Racing Club Avenido are also pleased to announce they have sealed the signing of Portuguese wonderkid, Joao Moutinho.

Fabio Capello briefly commented on his latest signings;

"They are both extremely quick, with excellent dribbling skills and wonderful technique. They will constantly get forward and cause problems, which should add another dimension to our attack. Miguel will start as our first-choice right-back, but Nelson's time will come. He's only just turned 23 years old and has a great future in the game."

Vicente Returns; Malouda exits

http://us.news1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/fifa/gen/afp/20050817/i/4054859439.jpg

Spanish left winger, Vicente Rodriguez, has re-joined his former club, Racing Club Avenido, having left 2 seasons ago in a swap for fellow Spaniard, Jose Antonio Reyes. Moving in the opposite direction is Florent Malouda, and an undisclosed fee.

After a successful two seasons in division two, and helping his former club gain promotion, the Spaniard returns, ready to make the impact he had hoped to make in his original stay at the club.

"I am delighted to be back here. Since leaving, I always followed their results on teletext, and was pleased to see them do so well. I left on good terms with Fabio Capello and the fans, but I hope that I will have more chances here this time, and show that they might have made a mistake by selling me.

With Jose (Reyes) and Franck Ribery here, I realise I will have to fight for my place in the team, but i'm ready to do that. I believe in myself, and think I will add something to this team."

Vicente set for debut

Vicente Rodriguez has 38 caps to his name for Spain

Spanish winger, Vicente Rodriguez, will finally make his first appearance for Racing Club Avenido today, after originally signing for the club 2 years ago. After a long spell on the sidelines, Vicente had become unsettled, and was sold by Fabio Capello in a swap deal involving fellow Spanish international, Jose Antonio Reyes.

Vicente Rodriguez recaptured some of his old form last season, inspiring Racing Combine Harvester to promotion, and gaining plaudits and recognition along the way. One of the world's finest wingers had put his long-running injury problems behind him, and recaptured the form which forced previous manager, Rafael Benitez, to attach a £150m buyout clause to his contract.

Vicente now returns to his former club, hoping to prove his worth in the top division, and become a first team regular under Fabio Capello.

Argentina star, Juan Pablo Sorin, and big summer signing, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, are also set to make their debuts for the club, according to reports.

TRANSFER NEWS

Racing Track Schweinsteiger

RCA Linked with Bastian

Fabio Capello is rumoured to be keeping a close eye on German star, Bastian Schweinsteiger, with a view to making a bid in the Summer. Despite tracking him for over a year, Capello is keen to wait until the end of the season before moving for his man, with the Italian veteran said to be willing to offer Shaun Wright Phillips, Aaron Lennon or Hedwiges Maduro as possible bait.

Target Gallas

Another player that could be on the move is French International centre-back, William Gallas (pictured). The Lyonnais star has been seen looking for housing property near RCA's training ground recently, which has led to speculation that he may be on the verge of a move to the League champions.

Make Rafinha Move

Racing Club Avenido have reportedly made a £5.3m bid for Brazilian starlet, Rafinha. The young right-back has impressed in Division 3 this season, and Racing scouts feel he is good enough to make the step into the top tier, without much difficulty.

Senderos Looks For Exit

In other transfer news, Philippe Senderos has put a number of clubs on red alert, after stating he would like a permanent move away from RCA, so he can concentrate on first team football.

http://de.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Photo/competitions/WorldCup/366342_MEDIUMSQUARE.jpg
Senderos looks for escape route

"I have had a good experience playing for a top division two club, and now a top division one club - playing a lot of football - but I would now like to sign permanently with a club that will offer me first team football, so I can fully concentrate on my future. Whether that will be with Newton Heath, i'm not sure. I am enjoying my time there, but I will not rule anything out, although I must admit I like to test myself against the best (strikers) each week, so a division one team is an attractive proposition. Racing have many world class centre-backs fighting for places, and I do not want to be sitting on the bench each week. I'm at the age where I need to progress." 7 clubs are rumoured to be interested in the solid Swiss defender.

Capello Hails Ayala Impact

Superb form

Fabio Capello has praised the performances of recent Argentine recruit, Roberto Ayala - with him helping Racing to achieve a superb defensive record, thus far. The 2 time League Champions have conceded just one goal in 6 League games, and Ayala has featured in 7 out of a possible 8 games, while Alessandro Nesta has been resigned to the bench.

"He has been excellent for us. I am lucky to have four world class centre-backs to choose from, but he has been the best, this season. He has settled in really well; maybe it's been made easier as he has some of his International team-mates here. Alessandro isn't happy to lose his place, but he can understand I need to reward Roberto for his good progress. He (Nesta) will get his chance. He has been a big player, and helped us to trophies, and I hope that won't change."

With Capello often stating defence wins championships, it comes as no surprise of the manager's delight at the defender's form.

In the latest transfer news, it has been widely reported that several clubs have stepped up their interest in Swiss defender, Philippe Senderos, following the young defender's comments regarding his hope for a imminent transfer, with one club said to have made a big money offer.

Set For Move Away

Fabio Capello responded to the issue, saying "it is a matter we want dealt with, swiftly. I will welcome bids for him during the upcoming transfer window, and hope to have the issue solved as soon as possible. I only want to keep players who want to play for the club."

Meanwhile, Racing Club Avenido have stepped up their interest in the attacking right-back, Daniel Alves. The Brazilian is Capello's highest transfer priority, and he is expected to offer around £15 for the Green Army star's services. A Green Army spokesman denied any negotiations had taken place, stating "We have had no bids received for Alves, and we have no intention of selling him. We want to keep all our major stars, and climb up the table."

Capello Delight At Victory

http://www.notasdefutbol.com/images/fabio.jpg

Fabio Capello last night spoke of his delight following Racing Club Avenido's thrilling 2-1 victory over rivals Newton Heath.

"It was a huge victory and boost for the team. We now have clear daylight, and can be confident we will cope with any obstacle put in front of us. It's a relief to have a squad full of capable players. It certainly helps to have players like Nélson Marcos and Maxi Rodriguez come into the team, and put in such impressive performances. I have full trust in my players, and know they can deliver the goods when it matters most."

When questioned about transfer activity, Capello responded "Well, that's not of any importance to me, right now. If you ask me who i'll be purchasing, i'll ask you who I should remove? All my players are playing well, so it'd be foolish to start changing things in the squad when it's not necessary. As usual, we have our eye on 1 or 2, but I do not think we will be entering the transfer market very much in mid-season. We're in a key part of the season, and if you start having your attention elsewhere, you suffer."

Moutinho's Impressive Form Continues

http://infordesporto.sapo.pt/Imagens/190682.jpg
One for the future

The Italian manager went on to praise young Portugal midfielder, Joao Moutinho, currently on loan to Lisbon Lions. The talented midfielder was sensational in a recent match against SC Heracles, helping the promotion challengers to an important 2-1 win.

"His performances certainly haven't been ignored. He's a young player I very much like, and it's safe to say he has a future at this club"

World Exclusive: Thierry Henry To Leave RCA

Played his last game for the Champions?

BREAKING NEWS: Thierry Henry has left Racing Club Avenido's training ground in North London to travel across to a rival team to complete his medical, before putting pen to paper on a contract that will see him leave the Champions, SkySports understands. The club will have to make do without him for their cup tie tonight against The Green Army, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Fernando Torres likely to lead the line. The move has certainly come out of the blue, and will no doubt leave Racing fans scratching their heads in disbelief. SkySports will be breaking the news as it happens over the next few days.

Cole Blasts Capello

http://images.sportsnetwork.com/soccer/getty/international/england/2005/cole_ashley.jpg
Stinging criticism of manager

England International, Ashley Cole, has criticised coach Fabio Capello for failing to field him regularly enough. The left back has seen his place put under threat by Juan Pablo Sorin, with the Argentine playing an equal amount of games in the League, and named as the team's first choice left back for Cup games.

"I think it's outrageous, to be honest. I'm not sure what he (Capello) thinks he is doing, but since joining this club 2 seasons ago, I have done nothing but good things for this club, and this feels like a kick in the nuts. I expect to be playing whenever i'm fit and available, so i'll need things to be explained to me, as i'm not happy about it. You know, I ain't being funny, but i'm better than Sorin, and everyone knows it. Even my wife would tell ya that" slammed Cole.

This is sure to anger Fabio Capello, who is well known for wanting everything at the club run his way, and his way only.

Despite being 7 points clear at the top of the League, things do not appear to be completely going to plan at Racing Club Avenido. Club officials could not be reached for comments at this stage

Joaquin Arrives

http://es.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Photo/footballeurope/FootballEurope/426725_MEDIUMSQUARE.jpg

After months of waiting, Spanish wing wizard, Joaquin Sanchez was finally unveiled as a Racing player, late on Friday night.

Fabio Capello had earlier refererred to Joaquin as "a genius, who can do unbelievable things with his feet, and is up there with any winger in European football."

While the Spaniard's main assets are largely recognised as his dribbling ability, pace, acceleration, flair and technique, his off-the-ball movement, control and crossing is also impressive. Joaquin joins countrymen Carles Puyol, Jose Antonio Reyes, Fernando Torres, Vicente Rodriguez, Cesc Fabregas and Xabi Alonso in the squad.

Henry Departs

http://dosyalar.hurriyet.com.tr/euro2004/Yakisikli/Thierry%20Henry.jpg

While RCA fans are still shellshocked at the news of Henry's move to TG United, they will be relieved this morning over the news it is only a loan move, and he should return to the club at the end of the season.

One man who is not happy, however, is Fabio Capello, who was very outspoken about the deal.

"I am not happy, no. The board tell me they want to see how the team copes without Thierry Henry for the rest of the season, but I make the decisions at this club. Losing Thierry will hurt any club, and we are no different. We relinquished Cole, which is positive news, and signed (Philip) Lahm, which is excellent, but losing Thierry makes it bittersweet. I demand he returns at the end of this season, and if the board tell me otherwise, I will have to make a difficult choice"

Lahm Unveiled As First Signing

Lahm during his press conference

Philip Lahm said the move to Racing came as a shock and out of the blue, but stated the move was "an important step in his career" and that "I look forward to stepping out onto the pitch to fight for the team, and I hope I can be a good contribution to this team". Lahm will wear the number 3 shirt, vacated by Ashley Cole.

Capello Blasts Cole/Quit Rumours

http://info.kicktipp.de/info/nachrichten/img/2006-09/250/ungemuetliche_zeiten_durchlebt _fabio_capello.jpg
Outspoken

Fabio Capello has branded Ashley Cole "filthy mercenary scum" and says he is glad to see the back of him.

"We were very good to this boy for more than 2 years, and then he has the audacity to question my tactics? We are top of the League for a third year running, and unbeaten so far, and he can question me? Is Cole a coach? Does Cole have more than a single braincell? Probably not. He is a good player, but unfortunately he lacks a brain. We have no time for mercenaries at this club. Such scum as him are ruining the beautiful game...but I am very happy to have Philip Lahm at the club, so I will forget about it"

Capello To Walk Out?

Reports are rife from the footballing world Fabio Capello has quit Racing Club Avenido. Allegedly, at 1.23am Saturday morning, after an emergency meeting with the board, following his outspoken comments about them, Fabio Capello handed in his resignation and walked out on the club. Capello has won 2 consecutive League titles, and reached 2 Cup finals since joining the team, so to lose the services of the Italian coach would be considered a huge loss for the League leaders.

Angry Capello quits

After weeks of discontent at board level, and following an emergency meeting last week, Fabio Capello has handed in his resignation notice with immediate effect. Having taken the team to two consecutive League titles and a Cup victory, the manager had become the victim of a power struggle behind the scenes, with certain staff forcing his arm by making the decision to axe the likes of Thierry Henry and Ashley Cole, who have been key players at the club the past two seasons, while making other highly regarded squad members, such as Alessandro Nesta, available for sale.

Capello, who refused the option of a press conference, voiced his disapproval over the way the club was run, as reporters fired questions his way.

"I had to leave. I was not running the club my way, so I was left with no other choice. I am sorry to the fans. I had two and a half special years, but unfortunately my spell has been cut short early"

Skybet have made Juande Ramos the early favourite to replace the double winners, offering odds of 8/11, with Felipe Scolari, Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho and Ronaldo Koeman also said to be in the running.

'Big Phil' In Charge

http://mm.servifutbol.com/Español/Deportes/Mundiales/Noticias/030109_soc_scolari_b.jpg

Portuguese is Capello's successor

Felipe Scolari takes the reigns as Racing Club Avenido manager tonight, following Fabio Capello's controversial departute.

The temperamental and charismatic Brazilian, was chosen ahead of Juande Ramos and Ottmar Hitzfeld, and will be in charge for his first game, this Tuesday, as they look to book their place in the next round in the Cup.

Here, we take a detailed look at the successful manager's background and career to date.

Luiz Felipe Scolari, (born November 9, 1948 in Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil), also known as Felipão ("Big Phil"), is a Brazilian football coach, who led the Brazilian national team to victory in the 2002 World Cup. He has been the head coach of the Portuguese national team since 2003.

Scolari had an auspicious career coaching Brazilian clubs. His first big title was the Brazilian Cup, in 1991, coaching the small Criciúma, from Santa Catarina. In 1994, Scolari joined one of the biggest teams in South America, Grêmio, for whom he also played in the 1970s. During his time at the club, Grêmio enjoyed a significant degree of success winning the Brazilian Cup, in 1994; the Libertadores da América, in 1995; the Recopa Sudamericana, also in 1995 and the Brazilian Championship in 1996. Grêmio were defeated in the 1995 Toyota Cup final after a penalty shootout with Ajax. During the late 1990s he also coached other South American's Giant, Palmeiras. Here he won the Brazilian Cup and the Mercosur Cup. He won the Libertadores once more but was defeated again in the Toyota Cup, this time his team suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United.

After a brief period coaching Cruzeiro, he was invited, in 2001, to coach the Brazilian national team, whose morale was very low after the lacklustre defeat of the final match of the 1998 FIFA World Cup, its elimination in quarterfinals of 2001 Copa America by Honduras and a series of bad results which threatened their qualification for the upcoming 2002 FIFA World Cup. His career with the national team was controversial since the beginning mostly for his refusal to call famous footballer Romário with whom he supposedly had a major disagreement over the former's demands of privileges and (i
