D1/2 Cup games will be taking place on Tuesday, check the Fantasy League 05/06 Schedule to see if you have a match, and update your team lineup in the WCL/D1/D2 Formations thread if you wish to do so.
What a week in FL. Figo, James and myself all reach that whopping 5 goals, of course I go down in the record as mine was first. cough cough. ;)
Congratulations.

Week 4 Results
Division 1
The G 0-5 Reyes
Figo 5-1 Charlie
Nikos 3-3 Phat
HP 1-5 Hunter
Ronaldo 3-3 Muad
Division 2
Martin 3-2 Yossi
RoP 4-3 Poffe
David P 2-3 Preki
Barry 2-3 Rangers
Rafa 1-4 Nedy
Without doubt the craziest week in the history of the FL. 56 goals in 10 games.
I'll update the tables in the next hour or so.
Damn I lost, but jebus there were 33 votes in my game.
I lost?
Its the "picnic stool" isnt it?

I'll have a new looking table ready for this wednesday at the latest. I'll extend it to cover both divisions and also the cups too.
Its the "picnic stool" isnt it?
The picnic stool is tremendous, no blame can be attached to that.
And after winning my first two games, I'm now without a win in three in all competitions. Squad rotation is doing it's job it seems.
Wow, amazing votes this week!!! I am very impress with RoP vs Poffe.....4-3!! Incredible......

yeah u'll be able to turn it around i wouldn't worry about man, just keep it up
An idea.
Tons of people vote to even the game up. A lot of the while, the team who gets the vote goes on to get more votes than the opponent.
So, people who should vote that way should wait until near the end of the poll before voting, as opposed to saying after an hour or two, "I'm voting for him because he's losing 4-1" or something.
Preki-USA
01-03-2006, 17:22
the idea is wait until the end if you wanna make the match a tie...because voting for a tie early on could wind up making a team win...does that make sense to you?
where the fuck were you yossi when i proposed that this idea, i was ripped to shreds by the other guys...haha, i cant believe this :)
I remember the argument, but I never actually knew what it was what caused them to all go off on one at you.

Just had a thought; maybe we should make it compulsary for managers to vote every week. Maybe not every week but if we say some managers not voting week in week out (I could name a few right now) then they could be punished or deducted a vote in they're games, after getting a warning? It's just an idea, as last week we had 5-0's and 5-1's, where-as this week I can't see many scoring much more than one or two.

It's alright, I think they'll get their just rewards sooner or later. Can't see them continuing to get votes if they don't put the effort in.

We could judge it on the comments the players receive. For example Luca Toni usually gets a lot of positive comments, so if you score 2, he could be named as the scorer of 1 or 2 of them. Something like that, can't think of anything better at the moment.

8-7 to The G in our match so far, its a damn sight better than my first game, where I got hammered. Buts its good that this game is close as it could go either way, unlike the landslide defeat in my first game in charge.

not bad there, theres gotta be some way we could do it w/ a number randomizer or something, it just gets really complicated.

It's certainly a very well laid out team that you're fielding so that bodes well for your future games. I think with a few signings in the mid season window, you can make up for the bad start to the season without too much trouble.

Why do people keep making defender vs. defender comparisons? Or striker vs. striker? They should be thinking of how would a defense cope with the oppositions strikers and support, not their defenders. For example, I could have defenders inferior to my rivals' but that would have no bearing on how well they would perform against his pitiful strikers.
The only comparison that could be made is with midfielders or maybe even fullbacks but i don't see how comparing strikers or centre backs is logical.

When was that worked out?
Scarface
11-03-2006, 17:48
When I spent hours doing the Fantasy League Schedule 2005/06 thread a month or two ago, and told you about it after.
4 WCL Group Game
4 D1/D2 Cup Game
1 Set of WCL Quarter Finals
1 set of WCL Semi Finals
2 leg D1/D2 Cup Semi Final Games
1 WCL 3rd Place Playoff
1 D1/2 Cup 3rd Place Playoff
1 WCL Final
1 D1/D2 Final
It's also unhealthy to have so many cup games midweek, they are becoming less and less active, and I can understand why. After posting in the threads all throughout the weekend, it can become a bore a couple of days after it aswell.
There 9 league matchdays and 10 cup matchdays in the first half, so is it possible we shift some group games over to the second half of the season?
The league weekends will be able to continue normally then.
Scarface
11-03-2006, 17:54
We'd then be in a rush to fit the rest of the Cup games schedule into it.
There'll be 6 cup matchdays in the second half so it should fit nicely between the league matchdays if we were to bring one or two cup or the 10 matchdays across.
Scarface
11-03-2006, 18:05
There's a lot more than 6 Cup matchdays scheduled for the 2nd part of the season already (see the cup information I posted a couple of posts up), so I don't think adding even more Cup games onto the second part of the season is a good idea. You've also got to take into account possible penalty shootouts which took an extra week to do last season.
The third-place playoffs could be done together, and the finals done together couldn't they?
We could start the resumption of this season with cup games too.
Highway Penguin
11-03-2006, 18:12
Ok. I don't remember that, but sounds good.
Scarface
11-03-2006, 18:12
It's better to have them as separate midweek games since they are completely different competitions and have a considerable bearing on prize winnings. It just shows that we are trying to cram everything in.
I feel it would be more beneficial for us in terms of both enjoyment and activity, to not have so many midweek games and have some Cup games over the weekend.
I think the second half of the season is already scheduled to start with Cup games.

The next league games are on Saturday,
No matches in midweek? Perhaps we could try playing a cup game then?
Good idea. To keep us occupied. But ofcourse, we don't want James or Vic to avoid their schedules, so we can make this, if possible.
I remember there was mention that there were too many cup games for weekdays, so why shouldn't we have one now :)

Games are up. On several occasions, managers (myself included) have voted and then said they voted for the wrong one, from now on, the vote from Fantasy League Managers will not be changed, as people are looking at the polls seeing what the score is, and their vote is dependant on that, so try to make sure you all vote correctly.

Thanks for the squad rotation templates, Rich. I'm transferring all the updated D1 stats to those. Once completed, do you print screen them all and then save them?
martin_cranie
20-03-2006, 21:17
When they're done I:
- Highlight the whole table, copy and paste it into Paint.Net
- Shrink the canvas size to about 300w 500h (This fits one squad rotation table well).
- Touch up any lines/borders that are missing. (There's always some, usually down the left hand side as you look at it)
- Then colour the background to match Insight, the colour code on Paint.Net is DFDFDF, and then save it.
- Then I imageshack the saved image.
If you want to just email the lists back to me, then I'll do the presentation stuff and PM you the results.

When you want to vote for a draw, is there a way to do so during games? I've seen some voters say I'll vote for a draw, how exactly do I do that? I'd need to some of those after all the close games I've voted in. Sometimes, I want to vote for a draw but don't know how, so I just do the hard analysis and vote for someone. Is it waiting till the end? And how long does a game stay on for?

It's usually by voting for the team that is trailing. Same as if I feel the score would be 2-1 to a certain team, I might vote for the team that I feel would lose to help them score a goal and to make the result more realistic. The polls are open for 48 hours, at the top of the poll it tells you the exact time the poll will close.
martin_cranie
26-03-2006, 14:44
The only way of voting for a draw is to vote for the team with less votes. Doing this will help to even up the votes/scores. If you have the time, it's best to do this late on, quite close to when the poll closes, so you get a better idea of how the games are shaping up.
EDIT: Too late, James gets it.

Ah, now I know what the meaning of the times on top of the poll are. Thanks for that, I'll be using this method for those close games (I'm sure of that) that will be coming in the next few weeks. ;)

I've seen that too James, it really is a strange affair. Its probably best to get the account of Edgar Davids IP checked by Hitman or an alternative Admin. Get one of the admins to check the ip then. If it's any fl manager that has created another account just for voting in matches, then that will be damnright sad and disgracefull. Until then though.

Nah, they won't have created another account, mate. Davids registered in 2004, but hasn't posted since early 2004, around 25 or so months ago. It could be a FL manager's old account, although i'm hoping that's not the case. An IP check may not even be conclusive, as some IP's change each time you go online. Worth a try, though.
Even if it's not, they never come online at any other time. Can anyone actually remember seeing Edgar Davids in the currently online list? They come on for 5 minutes when the matches are posted to vote and then log-off, not exactly subtle. If they were that interested in the League, surely they'd have posted a message over the past 1 and a half seasons?
Yeah, seen that too. I'm not hoping it's any one of us to be honest, but to take into account Davids has voted for me today, I can't be too suspicious. It's not me, hope this gets sorted out asap.

I have noticed Davids in the past and comented to someone about him but we concluded that even though he has a low post count he has been registered longer than some of us here and there are many users out there that visit the site frequently and seldom post and in some cases never have, believe it or not.
Maybe he stumbled upon the league once and enjoys voting...

I suppose, but surely if he visits the Fantasy League section he'd see this, and should at least have the decency to clear it up for us.
Exactly. He had posted 72 times, if he liked the Fantasy League that match i'm sure he'd have posted a message in one of the many matches he has voted in. Call me a sceptic, but I don't buy into the possiblity that he loves voting so much, he always decides to log-on when Fantasy League matches are put up, just to get his dose of clicking on a button and seeing a score change. I've also noticed he always seems to vote once the polls are getting to a crucial stage, and/or when his vote would change a scoreline. It's almost as if he's called upon when needed. He might not be a Fantasy League manager, but he could be a friend or online buddy of one. Either way, I don't think his votes should count. Having less than 100 posts, and not posting since February 2004 is as bad, if not worse than having 9 posts since late 2005 in my opinion.

Argh, my internet is acting up, so I could only get D1 Cup games up, I've got an appointment in about 20 minutes, so I gotta go, but I'll post the other games when I get back.
Or you can do the other James.
Edgar Davids could be one of these people whose English isn't so good and could indeed be someone's friend. We can do a couple of investigative efforts to at least narrow this down. It'll be fun.
One, have his I.P checked.
Two, and this is the tedious bit, check all games in which he has voted, at least since this season started, and see which managers' votes coincide with his. I suspect we would get only a couple of names. This could be narrowed down even further by checking registration dates, meaning that if i and Figo, for instance, are the only ones that have always voted for the same teams Davids has then it would obviously be Figo because i hadn't even heard of insight before 2005.
If on the other hand Davids is an acquaintance of someone here, we will never know but any coincidence might still point towards who David's friend might be.
It could also be someone from this site that has two accounts and enjoys sentencing games.
I think that he has almost always voted against me...
Just out of curiousity, who was it that picked Edgar Davids (player) when the league first started..?

no , no one is gonna buy davids , im gonna choose davids in round 7 , maybe if everything goes to plan . i choose valdez cuz i realised that i didnt have a quality gk , so i was quite surprised that no one chose valdez , so i chose him first

Davids - Ballack - Maniche

Urgent reminder to all Fantasy League managers that if you have any suspended players, they must not be in your lineups or on the subs bench. If this rule is broken, you face the possibility of points deductions and/or a fine. Looking through the D1/2 formations, I can see a couple of teams that are breaking the squad rotation rule at the moment, so I urge you to update them as soon as possible, as the League Matchday 7 fixtures will be up in the next 24 hours.
Keyser Soze
31-03-2006, 23:28
Yeah, I think points deduction is more suitable to be honest. Most managers won't mind a couple million odd fine, but dropping 3 points in the league could drop them a fair few places, which could determine their position for the season. I'm sure this would encourage managers to update they're formations, knowing the consequences if they don't.
I've updated my squad and I agree with G, points deduction rather then fines

Sorry for my short votes this week, I'm sorry and next time I will vote much more, just in a big hurry now. Apologies. :(
No worries, its just a game ;) As long as you vote, really. You don't have to post comments par se.

What's happening with my game with Yossi? He hasn't been on in a while actually.:erm:
I think that the problem was his formation. He cant use Forlan and he put on his first team vs you John...
What's happening with me and Figo? Postpone till next week? I'm not even sure if Figo has been online lately, I hope he does come back soon.
The same with Rangers and Yossi......Figo put a lot of players suspend in his first team vs you Nikos....

To be honest, I don't think thats fair. Why should Nikos and John get punished through others' carelessness? I mean, fair enough if the formation is slightly late like Muad and Hunter, but this takes the piss a bit. I'm not saying it's their fault, but in future I think we should hand out punishments, which would encourage them to at least tell someone to do they're formation for them.

What's not fair? I sympathise with Nikos and Rangers for having their matches delayed, but the matches can't be played with incorrect lineups, so there's nothing that can be done, and unfortunately, this probably isn't the last time this will happen. There's been no announcement over punishments, when the games will be re-arranged to or anything else as Victor and myself haven't had a chance to discuss it yet.
Hmm, I didn't realise players who needed restng couldn't be on the bench, and I didn't see this as I was in Germany. My bad.

It was because the suspended Forlan was in the first XI.

Maybe in the future we could use the substitutes, e.g. if I had Owen in the side but was suspended, he could be swapped with the first striker who comes up in my subs. Could stop delays like this happening, but maybe if someone has a whole load of suspensions it wouldn't work.
It was because the suspended Forlan was in the first XI.
Whoops. I meant to leave him out, I guess I kinda forgot to when I put up my formation.
EDIT: I've changed it now, obviously.

I've put the game up now.
Looks like Figo is unfortunately going to try to hide from the issue or not come back, so i'll talk to Victor about one of us choosing a lineup for Figo's team without the suspended players, as it's unfair to keep Nikos a game behind everyone else.

I'm not sure it's possible for the League games to be played this weekend, as the D2 squad rotation stats haven't been updated, so if the games were put up, half the games might have to be cancelled later on due to players suspensions.
The Cup games will be the played after the League games, as it says in the schedule thread. Depends when the League games are played, but either mid-week or next weekend.

About the squad rotation stuff; each manager should pay attention to their own rotation needs. Following some sort of honor code, if you know what I mean. Obviously we'll try to update the Squad Rotation thread as much as possible, but we have all got other obligations outside the board which take time away from running the league. So basically, be responsible and mature about it so we haven't got to hold up the league. :)
Everything is going to be pushed back a weekend then. Cup games this week as usual.

I can't make those fancy little tables for the Squad Rotation, so either someone can do them and they'll get a big pat on the back or I can just update who is not eligible to play. Either way, they need to be done as soon as possible, as we've got games this weekend.

Reyes there's a mistake in counting them votes in my match, Yossi meant to vote for me but by mistake voted for HP, so it'll be 8 votes to 11, 8 votes wont count 2 goals right?

Yeah good stuff Barry, after a poor start to the season you could well be the darkhorse of D2 this year. And well done to Muad for getting his first league win of the season (sorry Charlie ;)).
I still can't believe it, I mean Poffeman's team isn't that bad. I guess it's the amount of voters overall, but yay anyway ;)

As Martin said, there came a time when a large number of votes were being cast 'incorrectly', so to try to address the issue, I said that all votes should remain the same, whether the votes were mistakenly cast, or not, and I was getting tired of having to go through all the posts and reading that the vote should be for the other team, but the rule wasn't made completely official, so you'll have to talk to Victor about that, and see what he says.
And well done to Muad for getting his first league win of the season.
Thanks, man. I really needed that victory. Though i'm not too happy that it was against Charlie.
