Beasley almost never plays a straight striker like a vieri or henry. For PSV he plays left wing forward, and for the USMNT he plays a normal left midfield.
Donovan does play forward, but he also plays midfield too. Donovan plays mostly forward in the MLS, when he played for Leverkusen he played attacking midfield and for the national team he plays on the right alot and in behind the forwards too. I wrote in his player profile that he plays the other positions, for me he will be employed in the midfield.

Yea i can see why you might think donovan should be up top but he's not gonna get any play above vieri and gilardihno. Beasley on the other hand is definately a midfielder.

Breaking News
In a whirling dervish of action Merseyside USA made several major changes to their squad. The following deals are currently pending but they are expected to become official when Merseyside USA finishes its draft within the next couple days.
It all started a couple of weeks ago when transfer offers flooded Merseyside USA for the services of Alberto Gilardino and Jonathan Woodgate. Merseyside finally accepted offers for both of these players. Gilardino has reportedly been sold to J-Hill FC for Giovanni Van Bronckhorst and 40 million pounds. Woodgate has reportedly been sold to Sol/Phat's team for 25 million pounds.
Merseyside USA also agreed to loan deals that will bring them Taccianardi and Hamman. Taccianardi is on loan from Club Boca for 1 million pounds and Hamman is on loan from Norway United for 5 million pounds.
Merseyside USA's current bank balance stands at 154 million pounds if these reported deals go through.
Check back tomorrow for updates.

Mersey Sign American Duo
Merseyside USA finally made a splash in the free agent market today. They signed American stand out Clint Dempsey, and former Ajax contributor midfielder John O'Brein.
Clint Dempsey is a player with a lot of potential, he was signed from the New England Revolution where he was currently leading the MLS in scoring from an attacking midfield spot.
John O'Brein, another young player with potential was brought into the team to try and secure depth at the midfield position. He is one of the most successful Americans to play abroad and he still young at the age of 25. O'Brein has also made many contributions to the U.S. Mens National Team, starting every game for them in 2002 World Cup and scoring a famous goal against Portugal in the dramatic U.S. upset.
To make room for O'Brein, Carsten Ramelow was cut, the player is said to be looking for work back in his native Germany but it is highly unlikely the skilled hard working German will be out of a job for long.

Merseyside USA score Scholes on Loan
Merseyside is buzzing after hearing the recent new that Paul Scholes will be bringing his impressive talent to Anfield. Merseyside USA acquired the midfielder on loan from Norway United, the second player on loan from this Division 1 club, the first being Dietmar Hamman. Scholes is figured to slot into the middle of the midfield as either a center midfielder or an offensive midfielder.
Merseyside USA will need to release a player to keep the roster at a legal limit, they are planning on make this move at some point very soon. Many experts predict Clint Dempsey or John O'Brien to get the ax. Check back soon for an update.

Merseyside dealt 3-0 Forfeit Blow
In an incredible turn of events Merseyside USA failed to show for its scheduled league match versus T5.
Merseyside USA was handed the wrong set of directions to T5's home pitch and they were at the wrong pitch for the start of the match.
The blame for this falls squarely on several league officials who gave them the wrong directions.
Merseyside USA manager Steve Nicol luckily took the glass half full approach, "We could have used the extra week of training anyways so we're going to tak this opportunity to work on our fitness and set-pieces."
Steve Nicol and the Merseysiders are scheduled to compete at home this weekend and hopefully won't have any trouble finding their way to Anfield.

Merseyside USA completed their second match of the week defeating the schizophreniacs 2-1 at Anfield. Italian hitman Christian Vieri converted the brace for the Merseysiders as they out classed and outmaned the schizes down the wings.
This victory followed up the midweek replay matchup against T5. This hotly contested game ended in a 0-0 draw.

Merseyside Agrees to Deal
--10/24/05--
Merseyside USA made a deal today, agreeing in principal to a deal with Bel Air FC.
The deal would have young American starlet Freddy Adu coming to the Merseysiders in exchange for 3 million.
"This is a deal for the future," chairman Preki said, "Freddy is a phenomonal young player who is only going to get better. He is going to factor into the team right away and be given a chance to succeed."
http://www.verbnow.com/pro_tips/soccer_tips/images/bio_freddy.jpg
Adu, 16, the youngest professional athlete in the history of the United States, was at odds with Bel Air FC over playing time.
"It was tough finding a way onto the pitch at Bel Air," Adu said, "they just had so much talent, it wasn't a good place for me to go, I'm excited for the opportunity that I will recieve at Merseyside USA and I am going to work hard to be the player everyone wants me to be."
Adu will have to wait til the transfer window opens for the deal to be official but it is said he is already partcipated in some training with the squad.

Merseyside ink Cahill, secure Loan Deal for Valeron, Look to shop Kalou
--10/26/05--
News and Notes
In another deal announced before the season ends, Merseyside USA inked a deal that sent Mauro Camoranesi to Galaxy FC for Australian center midfielder Tim Cahill and 10 million dollars.
http://www.pinkfootball.com/images/upload/cahill_tim_bi.jpg
Camoranesi's welcome was worn out thanks to a crowded right flank that perfered to feature Ludovic Guily or Saloman Kalou. Cahill is expected to add depth to a potentially empty center of the pitch with the possible departures of the player they have on loan this season.
Merseyside USA agreed to a loan deal with BOCA Club de Fusball yesterday on Spanish international Juan Carlos Valeron. The half-season loan cost the 'siders 5 million, deal has a continuation option for the second half of the season held by BOCA.
http://www.deportivo-la-coruna.com/pics/regular/Valeron_157.jpg
Precocious young forward Soloman Kalou has many people buzzing about his future, including several Division 1 squads looking to bolster thier attacking options. "We would be silly to expect a young talent like Soloman to remain happy playing for a Division 2 club his entire career, if the right deal comes along we will listen," MUSA president Preki was quoted as saying at a recent fundraising banquet.
Paul Scholes and Dietmar Hamman, the Merseyside midfielders held on loan from Norway United may be headed back to their mother club at the end of the season despite Merseyside's intentions to keep the midfield duo.

Merseyside draw Casuals in Front runner for game of the year.
Sunday, February 5th, 2006
Associated Press
The undoubted game of the week was between Rangers Casuals and Merseyside USA, which finished in a 2-2 draw. In a free flowing game which resembled a basketball match, rather than a football match, Preki took the lead through Luca Toni. Salomon Kalou skinned fellow Brazilian, Dede, on the right wing before whipping in an inch perfect cross which Toni had no hesistation in firing away. Just minutes later, RC drew level, Van der Vaart playing in Martins, who proved far too quick for Mertesacker and he slotted the ball under the body of Morgan De Sanctis. The game continued to go end-to-end with Leo Franco and De Sanctis on top form. Villa was denied twice by the Italian, but when Del Piero chipped the ball into his path in the 62nd minute, Villa made no mistake as spun past Mihailjovic and smashed the ball into the left corner of the net. Once again, the lead was short-lived, Amantino Mancini raced down the right flank and was spotted by Maxwell, who sprayed a 60 yard pass across field into the path of Mancini, who's first touch allowed him the space for a shot on goal, which he drove across the body of Leo Franco and into the back of the net. Both sides had several more chances to pick up all 3 points, but a draw was a fair result, with both sides looking strong contenders for promotion.

Merseyside Storm Back

Luca Toni celebrates his stunning game winner
Following the tough 2-1 loss to FC Clockwork Holland Merseyside USA stormed back with a stunning victory in dramatic fashion over DJ's Elite.
DJ Elite stormed out to a two nil lead in the first 35 minutes.
Only 5 minutes in Robin Van Persie got in behind the Statesiders backline thanks to a supremely weighted ball from Thiago Motta. Van Persie found himself virtually unmarked as Mancini was caught up field in attack and Van Persie made no questions about it driving hard at keeper Morgan De Scantis and slotting the ball home to the far post for a one to nothing lead.
The Elites scored again 20 minutes later as Edmilson finished off a sublime Riquelme free-kick.
The mood was somber as the fog of the impending defeat moved in over the Home Depot Center. The Statesiders seemed defeated and out of gas already. Only some inspired goalkeeping for De Scantis kept the game within two goals. Oliviera found himself in on a breakaway on two sperate occasions in the final 5 minutes of the half only to have his feet let him down. He missed far left on one occasion and shot into the body of De Scantis in the other.
Steve Nicol must have given quite the half-time speech because Merseyside USA seemed like a different team in the second half.
They score 2 minutes into the half, Kalou found himself one on one with Reina after some impresive dribbling that left everyone in his wake and Edmilson on his back. He then suprised everyone by slotting the ball to the far post where Luca Toni was able to convert. Toni himself seemed suprised to find himself that wide open and almost tripped while slotting the ball home for his 4th goal of the campaign.
This goal seemed to wake up the Merseysiders and their crowd as they peppered Reina's goal with shots for the next 25 minutes.
Reina put up a great fight but couldn't do anything to stop Sinsa Mihajlovic's perfect free kick in the 80th minute. The free kick set-up when DaMarcus Beasley drew another foul, was a text book curler that found its way into the upper 90 from 25 yards out.
The game seemed destined for a tie as both sides then slugged it out in the center of the pitch.
But suddenly in stoppage time Mancini broke lose after a nifty one-two with Malbranque. Streaking down the right wing Mancini whipped in a cross that was neatly headed into the net by Luca Toni once more for his 5th goal of the season.
This win moves Merseyside USA into 4th place in Division 2, within striking distance of the leaders.

Merseyside sign Bouma, complete mega-deal for Kaka!
News came this evening at 6pm GMT that talented full-back Maxwell has put pen to paper on a three and a half year deal that sees him moving from Merseyside USA to Division 2 rivals, Asgard Utd.
Clough has made it a priority so far in his dealings, to strengthen the squads defensive depth, but while no one will deny the class of Maxwell, some may well see the exit of Wilfred Bouma and 15m in exchange, as counter-productive. The manager was quick to tackle such thoughts. In his interview with the press he stated, 'Losing a player of Wilfred's talent is certainly not good for any club, but when you bring in a player like Maxwell in exchange, it's a lot easier to take.'
Later Clough went on to state the reasons for the switch, 'Quite simply, Wilfred hasn't been able to really pin down a first team spot, and as bigger loss as he is, I think we have the players to cover for his loss. With Maxwell coming in, it'll provide a real challenge to Wayne Bridge, and will ultimately boost our squads quality.'
In other news, Merseyside USA paid the biggest transfer fee in club history totaling to €150 million in a deal with Norway FC for creative brazilian Kaka. The deal made Norway the richiest team in league history and Merseyside, responding to moves from managers Martin_Craine and others challenging for promotion knew it was vital to make a block buster deal.
"We are very excited to add a player of Kaka's class, he will provide our offense with all it needs to be the best in division two, linking with Toni and Fred has to be scary for the other managers," Merseyside manager Steve Nicol said.

Beasley voices playing-time concerns
http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2005/writers/richard_deitsch/10/20/qa.beasley/p1_beasley_1020.jpg
Foxboro- Merseyside USA American winger DaMarcus Beasley has found it difficult to find the pitch this season and is ready to take his trade elsewhere; if only for a short period.
Beasley has seen his playing-time shrink thanks to the emergence of fellow American winger Clint Dempsey. Beasley feels that some first team time away from the club could be just what he needs to prove to manager Steve Nicol that he deserves consideration for the Merseysiders.
"My heart is with this club, there is no doubt about that," Beasley said. "But I think it could be in my best interest to get as much first team time as possible and with us pushing for promotion this season it might not happen here."
Nicol said he understands his players concerns and looks to accomodate him.
"I will do my best to find a place where Beasley can play full-time," Nicol said. "I just hope that it will be on loan as I do not want to sell a player of his potential."
With the window fast approaching Nicol will surely hear offers for his talented winger.

Merseyside wins in dominant fashion
http://www.fnci.info/ci/admin/images/dindane.jpg
Aruna Dindane was on form in League 2 victory
Aruana Dindane and Didier Drogba made life miserable for Crainie's Scarred Penguins over the weekend. The two powerful strikers wreaked havoc in the oppositions box creating at least 10 quality scoring chances.
Thanks, in part, to a great midfield performance turned in by Didier Zokora the Merseysiders never seemed threatened and were able to dominate possesion.
The wing play of DaMarcus Beasley and Simao provided some dangerous crosses, two of which Dindane and Drogba were able to get on the end of and convert into goals.
Dindane hit the back of the net in the 17th minute when Beasley's low cross found him at the six which he slotted home easily.
Drogba gave the Yanks some breathing room in the 51st on a header off a Simao cross.
Morgan De Scantis earned the clean sheet.
Merseyside is still undefeated on the season after picking up their third win on the trot. They moved into third place overall, one point from the promotion zone.

Ron Vlaar on way out at Merseyside

Ron Vlaar could be out at the Razor
Once highly-touted center back Ron Vlaar appears to have played his last match with the Yanks.
Sources close to the organization have all but confirmed that the out of favor youngster will move in a $3 million transfer to Dav FC in the coming transfer window.
With the emergance of Oguchi Onyewu and the return of Sergio Ramos Ron Vlaar must not figure into manager Steve Nicol's plans.
Neither team's manager could be reached for comment but Vlaars agent had this to say:
"There is definately something in the works, Ron has not been happy, he has only seen the pitch twice throughout the whole season and cup matches. He's been a good teammate and professional about it thought. He has kept quiet and worked hard in practice. But there comes a point when a young player needs to do what right for himself."

Tevez becomes the newest Yank attacking star
Talented attacker Carlos Tevez has agreed to a transfer away from Top Gun FC today. The deal will see the Merseysiders give up the talented duo of Giorgio Chiellini and Matthieu Flamini in exchinge for the young Argentine.
Merseyside USA found themselves in need of an attacking force with the impending departure of Didier Drogba and the situation was put at the top of their transfer window to-do list.
"The fact that it is done is a huge relief to us," Manager Steve Nicol said. "We needed another creative option to pair with Adriano up top and now we've found him. We also think the change of scenery will do Carlos well."
Pundits now say that the Yanks will not put their attention on the depth in defense and central midfield.

Nicol Comments on New Faces and Direction of Team
After the first day of the new transfer window Merseyside USA has made several moves to strengthen their promotion push. The following players have been brought in and manager Steve Nicol has commented on what he expects from the new men.
But Nicol does warn, "We are not done yet. Not even close, we're pursuing deals all over the market and are willing to pull the trigger if it helps the team."
http://www.realmadrid.com/plantilla/img_esp/beckham.jpg
David Beckham
"Beckham is a true professional and we're going to hope that his work ethic rubs off on the other players. He is the type of player that you want on your squad. We played Clint [Dempsey] more than we had wanted to at the beginning of this campaign and we wore him out. Beckham will get plenty of matches on the right flank and we're experimenting with a three man midfield that he might be a part of."
http://www.seitenstark.de/wm2006/spieler/odonkor-david06.jpg
David Odonkor
"With Clint and Becks on the right side it is going to be hard for Odonkor to see minutes on a regular basis. If he wants to make this team and make an impact he will need to do it on the left side of the pitch and fill the hole that beasley left us."
http://express.bitesizefootball.co.uk/images/players/large/USA_BOCANEGRA_1807.jpg
Carlos Bocanegra
"I love Carl Blackmouth's versatility. We had a need at left and center back and he fills both those holes. He also has great chemistry with Gooch and can be a real threat on set pieces."
http://express.bitesizefootball.co.uk/images/players/large/Spain_HOWARD_1890.jpg
Tim Howard
"Tim was hand picked by Kasey Keller when he announced he was moving on from Merseyside. Tim will get every chance to take the starting keeper role, although Morgan De Scantis' experience gives him a decisive edge."
http://www.weltfussball.de/bilder/spieler/11951.jpg
Tranquillo Barnetta
"Tranquillo is a youngster we've been watching for a long time. The opportunity was right for us to have him in for a trial. Unfortunately for him it is going to take a big injury or massive transfer swap for a spot to open up on our roster."
http://www.football365.fr/resultats/photos/psg_yepes_0405.jpg
Mario Yepes
"Mario gives us insurance at center back. We had Sol, Gooch, and Ramos who can all play center back but with the addition of Yepes and Bocanegra we have more flexibility. We are, however, very close to a deal to bring in a veteran center back who will strengthen the squad greatly. This may leave Yepes on the outside looking in but we're going to give him every chance to make the squad."
http://worldcup.goal.com/resultsimg/1338.jpg
Bobby Convey
"Bobby is our insurance policy if Odonkor cannot be effective on the left hand side of the pitch. He is another American player and throughout Merseyside USA's history the American player has helped us immensely."

Merseyside Gears Up for Big Finish

Merseyside USA get set for their final fixture of the season, one that could decide their future between promotion and a fourth consecutive year in Division 2. With David Beckham's future at the club in question, this could be Merseyside USA's best chance at promotion for the forseeable future.
The Siders will need to pick up the maximum three points from relegation candidates Rafa FC and luckily, for the second straight week, manager Steve Nicol will have his full side at his disposal. Francesco Totti and Adriano are expected to get the nod up top with Simao, Beckham, Owen Hargreaves, and Michael Ballack gettin the go in the midfield. In defense, expect to see the on form John Arne Riise, Sol Campbell, Lillian Thuram, and Paolo Ferriera.
A victory alone, however, will not be enough as the Yanks will need Martin_Craine's men to avoid a loss to keep Merseyside promotion a possibility.
It is sure to be a hotly contested weekend with so much still left undecided.

"Don't Get Down..." Words of encouragement from Nicol.
http://images.worldcupblog.org/www/steve%20nicol.jpg
Manager Steve Nicol knows that it would be easy to feel sorry for his squad following their narrow miss of promotion after Joel FC gained last second victory.
"We could easily sit here and look at the past," Nicol said. "But we need to move forward and continue to improve."
With David Beckham, Alexis, and Jermaine Defoe all likely ending their spell with the squad Nicol knows there is work to be done.
"I have some moves I want to make but it is tough to see how everything is going to go right now," Nicol continued. "I think even with the squad we have we could still compete but I think we're one piece away from guaranteed promotion."
Nicol also shared some of his plans for the off-season.
"I think Lee Young Pyo played his last match for the squad," Nicol informed the media. "Hopefully he can find a better fit."
Nicol also wants to find a D3 squad to take on Gonzalo Castro.
"He's going to be a tremendous player, we saw that when he took the pitch for us this season," the manager went on. "He just needs some more seasoning, hopefully something he can find in a D3 squad."
Finally, Nicol dropped the biggest hint at a major change up.
"We want some more youth at the back. With Sol Campbell, Lillian Thurham, and John O'Shea we have plenty of experience, but maybe moving one of those three could help us get a little more athletic and explosive back there," Nicol concluded.

Merseyside USA get active in window
Recap neccesary after flurry of bold moves by Nicol
One of the things Merseyside USA manager Steve Nicol said he wanted to avoid was a major turnover in personel on a squad that missed promotion by two points. His main concern was improving depth. With his first five players brought in it is clear that he is sticking to his gameplan.

Timmy Simons-DMF
A clear need for Merseyside USA was to improve their quality at the center of the pitch. Having seen Clint Dempsey and Gonzalo Castro, two natural right-sided players, perform in the center of the pitch it was clear the Yanks needed a few good men. Timmy Simons is one of them.
Simons has been a workhorse in every midfield he's ever been a part of. He has World Cup experience with Belgium and has a close personal relationship with Merseyside stalwart Philip Cocu. This chemistry could be very important in Simons holding off the other competitors for his roster spot.

Julian De Guzman-DMF, RB, RMF & Jonathan De Guzman-RMF
After acquiring the services of the young and very talented Jonathan De Guzman, Nicol decided to bring in his versatile older brother Julian to help the young starlet settle.
Nicol is expected to look to loan out the younger Guzman which could spell the end of the elder's tenure with the Yanks. However, those close to the team have been impressed with the versatility of Julian De Guzman and his very high workrate. It is likely that Julian De Guzman will need to out perform Timmy Simons in the friendlies to make the squad. There is also a slight chance that Julian De Guzman could make the squad as a right back but with so much talent in front of him it is doubtful.

Jo-ST & Roberto Soldado-ST
When Roberto Soldado's signing was announced earlier this week many thought that the Yanks were all set with strikers in their side. Soldado has been the owner of a great goal scoring record no matter where he has played.
The young talent that is João Alves de Assis Silva or Jô as he is referred to was apparently too much for Nicol to pass up for this season. He signed the aspiring goal scorer to full season loan deal. Jô is considered one of the bright young strikers in football.
The signing of Jô, however, has soured the attitude of Roberto Soldado as he assumed he would be given full reign of the third, if not second striker ahead of the incumbent Aruna Dindane. This turmoil has sprouted rumors that Soldado could end up at Lucentum Club de Fútbol.

Ze Roberto-LMF, CMF
This window has seen the Merseysiders' average age drop considerably but as everyone has seen when Nicol sees a veteran player who can doa job come available he will jump at the opportunity.
Ze Roberto will be expected to back up Simao Sambrosa at left midfield or start at the left wing and allow Simao to play on the right wing, a position that has caused much concern with pundits this off-season.

Ibrahim Sonko-CB & Andre Bikey-CB, RB
Ibrahim Sonko and Andrew Bikey have both played together in the past and their chemistry could go along way to making this squad. It was once believed that Nicol would only keep one between Sonko and Bikey but Bikey's aptitude thus far in practice at right back has put both Julian De Guzman's job in jeopardy but has also solidified the backline where Paulo Ferriera has been out of form.
