Another guy who Real incredibly release after failing to win the Champions League in 2002-03.
When Real released him he was only 29. He has 47 caps for Brazil, a team with such strong midfield competition. He was a defensive midfielder. And he had attacking flair.
Was with Galatasaray last season when Real Madrid loaned him there, but now he isn't returning anymore.
He wasn't loaned. Real Madrid didn't want to pay for his wages, so they released him to the first club to approach them.
Flavio did alright this year. He was set to leave during the break because of his poor performance (wish we had seen that 'attacking flair'!) but Hagi decided to give him another chance. He rarely attacked. He only passed the ball around for the first 15 games, but after that he started to be more effective. My father once said 'How did this guy get signed by Real?' at a home game. True. Flavio has passed his peak many years ago. Many regular defensive midfielders in Turkey could have done what he did for the team. He also had a wage of 1850000 Euros per year, and that's a lot for a club with financial problems. I hope he does well in greece.
Also, that Samaras guy Arsenal signed (or will sign) is a classy player. Watched him at the Turkey - greece U21 game and his style reminds of Zlatan. He's a great prospect.

Don't think he was released  Many players were loaned out that year, a total of 17 players departed.
Flavio was good attacking - what would you expect when learning from and playing alongside Figo, Zidane and Ronaldo? :D Those days were just perfect, Cambiasso could find space to do an overhead cross from tight angles, Flavio could dribbles between central midfielders and centre-backs, Makelele could do inch-perfect passes from one wing to the other (sounds crazy I know :D) etc.
I never knew he had so many caps by the way, for Brazil too  the only international thing I knew about him was that he missed out on the World Cup 2002.

Parker would be an excellent addition to your side. He is one of the best midfielders in the country at least that's what I think anyway.

Milan Reject Pirlo-Guti Swap?
According to Italian daily La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan have rejected an offer of Guti-plus-cash for Andrea Pirlo.
Spanish international Guti is keen to get away from Real Madrid, and although Milan rejected this offer -they are loath to part with Pirlo- they may still be interested in taking the player to the San Siro.
At present Guti is on holiday in Ibiza, but when he returns it is expected that he will sit down with his agent to discuss his future.
Magpies boss Graeme Souness may soon get the breakthrough in the transfer market that his Tyneside career may well depend on, as the saga of Scott Parker nears completion - in our favour.
It's understood that a fee has now been agreed with Chelsea and personal terms have also been accepted by the 24 year-old midfielder.
And crucially, the player himself does apparently fancy the gig - dashing the hopes of three other Premiership clubs who were happy to meet the asking price.
Precisely when the announcement that the deal has been concluded will be is unclear - whether it'll come before Monday's 5pm season ticket deadline remains to be seen.

Apparently we're considering a move for Gattuso.
gattuso is terrible he is supposed to be the italian roy keane and all he does is dive i think you shouldn't buy him.
I don't think Gattuso is a bad player at all actually. He would benefit the club as well, we need to bring in some Midfielders this Summer Transfer Window.
Is he the Italian Roy Keane ? No
Is he a good player to have ? Yes
He would be an asset to Manchester United if they decide to launch a bid for the man.
Any estimations on his value price ?

I don't think AC Milan would let him go for that cheap but we can only hope.
I would think that they would sell him for about £8million - £10million maybe but depends on how he's feeling about the club also.

I feel sorry for West Ham....
West Ham snatch United reject Carroll
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll is poised to join West Ham tomorrow, according to reports.
The Northern Ireland international, who opted to walk away from Old Trafford when his contract ran out at the end of last season, is ready to sign for the newly-promoted Hammers.
The London Evening Standard claimed today that Carroll will be a West Ham player on Tuesday if he passes a medical with the Upton Park club.
Carroll will be hoping for a fresh start after a difficult season with United, who have since signed Holland international goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar from Fulham.
Meanwhile, defender Christian Dailly and striker Teddy Sheringham, who will be 40 next April, have also signed new one-year deals with West Ham, and left-back Chris Powell and midfielder Shaun Newton are also close to agreeing new contracts.
Manager Alan Pardew has also been linked with a £1.2million bid for Watford striker Heidar Helguson.
Hammers returned to the top flight last month after a two-year absence, defeating Preston 1-0 in the Championship play-off final.
ESPNSoccernet
Newcastle United have agreed a £4m fee for Turkish international Emre Belozoglu with Inter Milan.
And a United deputation including manager Graeme Souness are ready to fly to Monaco tomorrow to talk to the player and his agent Ahmed Bulut.
But United are keeping a wary eye on Everton, with Goodison boss David Moyes their main rival for the left-sided Turkish midfielder.
Apart from Everton, the main stumbling block appears to be whether United are ready to pay Emre the £60,000-a-week wages he is currently picking up at the San Siro.
I understand Emre is willing to join United as he is very much aware of Graeme Souness following the Scot's brief - and controversial - stay in Turkey with Galatasaray 10 years ago.
And Emre knows all about St James' Park as he was in the Inter Milan side which beat United 4-1 in the Champions League on the night Craig Bellamy was sent off back in November 2002.
If United do get Emre, who plays on the left side of midfield but not out wide, this will allow Birmingham City to sign Lee Bowyer.
Steve Bruce has never been afraid to sign the so-called bad boys. He already has Jermaine Pennant at St Andrews after his spell in jail, and he also had Robbie Savage, and now he is ready to take Bowyer as well.
Bowyer feels that he has to get away from St James' Park for a variety of reasons, and Bruce, after first targeting his Newcastle colleague Nicky Butt, is now ready to go for the former Leeds United midfielder.
Meanwhile, the exodus of players from St James' Park continues. After being linked with Middlesbrough and Celtic over the weekend, Andy O'Brien has sign for Portsmouth today in a £1.5m deal.
Meanwhile, United say they have not done any deal with Bolton Wanderers for Laurent Robert, and as far as they are concerned the Frenchman is going to Portsmouth for talks tomorrow.
But once a deal goes through, with Robert's departure now inevitable, everybody at St James' Park from chairman Freddy Shepherd down can expect a verbal blast from the enigmatic and often outspoken winger.
Chelsea stealing Hleb ?
Chelsea have emerged as serious contenders to sign in-demand Stuttgart midfielder Alexander Hleb, according to reports in Germany.
The playmaker had featured high on Arsene Wenger's shopping list before the Arsenal boss was put off by the Bundesliga outfit's hefty asking price.
Stuttgart are believed to have rejected a €12 million bid over the weekend, although that price is unlikely to deter interest from Premiership champions Chelsea.
Kicker reports that the Swabians are unlikely to sell their most-gifted asset for anything less than €20 million and were encouraged by the news that Jose Mourinho could enter the bidding war for the Belarus star.
Hleb has recently stressed his desire to leave the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadium in the summer after Stuttgart failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the second straight time.
The Swabians finishing fifth in the Bundesliga and the sale of highly-rated Brazil-born Germany international Kevin Kuranyi to Schalke is expected to encourage Hleb's exit plans.
Meanwhile, Stuttgart's search for a successor for Matthias Sammer has not brought results with Grazer AK's Walter Schachner, Lyon's former boss Paul Le Guen and Sammer's assistant Krassimir Balakov all in the frame.

I still wonder just where antonio cassano will end up next season don't mind if he stays at roma but i wouldn't mind him at Madrid :)
Trust me...Cassano is a Juventus player. No matter what they say, he is a Juventus player.
Moggi is a transfer genius, and he always pulls the "we have to sell first" quote out in the summer, just before they go and make a big purchase because it helps them to avoid a bidding war.
Cassano's former agent is certain the youngster will go to Turin (http://www.goal.com/NewsDetail.aspx?idNews=67152&progr=13)

Del Piero would be backup to both Cassano and Del Boy....or as I mentioned a while ago in the Juventus thread, Cassano may be used as an alternative or additional deep-lying foward - his preferred position. Zlatan-Trezeguet backed up by Nedved-Del Boy-Cassano would work superbly IF you made sure the back four don't go galloping forward at every opportunity, and Emerson (if he stays) sits in midfield. Nedved goes back to defend often which is helpful, and you'd need Del Boy and Cassano to do it too. Would be an interesting formation. Real Madrid-like, but with a solid defence.
Like Fabio Capello would ever go for something THAT adventurous.....

Figo to Liverpool is the latest actually...
Qatar club Al Rayyan claim to be in a bidding war with Liverpool for Real Madrid's Luis Figo.
Portuguese international Figo has spent five years at Real since a £37million move from Barcelona.
The 32-year-old has expressed an interest in playing in the Barclays Premiership and Far East side Al Rayyan claim European Champions Liverpool want him.
But Liverpool have not matched Al Rayyan's wages offer according to the Qatar club's president, Ali Al Noaimi, who told the Daily Star: "We want Figo and we know about the offer from Liverpool but we are able to offer much more money."

I don't want Pires to leave. He had played very well this season and plus he has netted about 17 goals I think; and that seems very good for a midfielder.

Figo looks set to leave Real Madrid this summer as he does not appear to be in coach Wanderley Luxemburgo's first-team plans.
The Portuguese ace lost his place in the side at the back end of last season with Michael Owen squeezing him out of the side.
Figo still has 12 months left on his contract at Real, but he has indicated he will not be happy if he is forced to sit on the bench.
The news has alerted a number of clubs across Europe with Liverpool, Bolton and Valencia all linked with the skilful winger.
It is believed that Figo has instructed his advisors to help find a new club and it appears England could be his destination.
Figo has never hidden his desire to try his luck in The Premiership and Newcastle could be ready to offer him that opportunity.
Magpies boss Graeme Souness is keen to bring in high-profile signings after a disappointing campaign last term and it is believed he is in negotiations with Figo.
Souness will be hoping he can persuade the former Barcelona star to make the move to Tyneside and his possible arrival would provide a major lift ahead of the new season.

Hell, I'd rather have the £8-£10m offered to Johnson then keep the guy if he wants to leave.
Still, this could be one Johnson / Jordon publicity stunt to make Sven play AJ in the England squad..

Sam Parkin is in Ipswich today talking to Royle and, like every other player, once they see our top facilities and great future plans they won't be able to resist the lure of the tractor boys, especially when the other options are to play at either the withdean, vicarage road or for the scum
The reason he'd join Ipswich is for guaranteed first team football, what with Bent and Kuqi realising they need to move to get Premiership football and vacating a couple of places up front.;)

If he can fight off competition for a starting place against Forster, Bowditch and Canadian wonderkid Jaime Peters then I'm sure he could get a place in the Norwich line-up, although Ashton is a good player, Huckerby's a knob but somehow plays well occasionally and even more bizarely Leon McKenzie played well in the premiership but it's not like you'll keep that strikeforce together for the whole of the season once you're mid-table in the January transfer window and players want premiership football.
Edit: Looks like I was right, he's joined Ipswich :D

Would be a great signing for Newcastle. Never got his chance at Inter. Wonderfully skillful player, great vision, killer pass and great technique.

Another story. Looks increasingly likely that it is infact Newcastle that have snatched him... :)
Well whatever happens ot will be resolved tomorrow, it would be a welcome boost if we did sign him.
If we do get him it will mean Souness has signed the following players:
Ronny Johnsen - Free - Didn't really feature much, but I suppose he cost nowt
Celestine Babayaro - £1m - He's done alright, canny injury-prone though.
Jean-Alain Boumsong - £8m - Excellent signing, has done the impossible and turned Titus into a half-decent centre-back.
Amdy Faye - £2m - I'm not overly keen on him, he does an ok job of protecting the back four, but doesn't do much when he's got the ball.
Scott Parker - £6.5m - Should turn out to be a class signing.
And then we should have Emre, which could also turn out to be an excellent acquisition.
Oh, and what is Emre's favoured position? I haven't seen a great deal of him.
Souness has allowed the following players to leave however:
Olivier Bernard - £400k
Aaron Hughes - £??
Andy O'Brien - £2m
Laurent Robert - £??
And Bellamy will be away soon.

Santos reject Real Madrid's $15mln offer for Robinho
(Xinhua)
Updated: 2005-06-24 09:33
Brazil's Santos rejected Thursday the first official offer it receives for its key player Robson de Souza "Robinho," as Real Madrid was said to have offered 15 million US dollars for a transfer.
This bidding was considered as very low by Santos President Marcelo Teixeira, who Thursday made it clear that 50 million US dollars would be the mark for a transfer of the 21-year-old striker.
The Real Madrid proposal was known during a private meeting of Teixeira with Robinho's representative Wagner Ribeiro, and Uruguayan agent Juan Figger, at the coastal city of Santos.
The Santos president said he remains faithful to the Robinho's contract which ends after the Germany 2006 World Cup.
"We have just met to hand over the proposal of Real Madrid for the transfer of Robinho. It is lower than 50 million dollars, for sure, and I am not going to revel the figure, though," said Ribeiro to the press at the end of the meeting held at Santa Cecilia University, which belongs to the Santos president.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid's Vice President Emilio Butragueno, said "we have to go step by step," with respect to the Robinho transfer.

Quotes from Emre, taken from a paper in Turkey:
"A numbers of clubs from Turkey including Fenerbahce made offers.
"However I have been repeatadly saying I would like to continue my career in Europe.
"I'm still young and I don't want to come back to Turkey right away. There is still alot to do for me in Europe.
"Newcastle is one of the biggest clubs in England and they made a nice offer. That's why, I chose them.
"Of course having Galatasaray's ex-manager at Newcastle was another strong factor.
"I'm now a Newcastle United player and I believe that I will be successful there."
Some new quotes from Bellamy
"I have two years left on my contract at Newcastle United and at this moment in time I am not interested in moving.
"The Newcastle first-team squad are back a week on Monday and I will be there with them. At this moment I am not interested in moving anywhere else.
"Whether I train with the kids is not up to me. But if that's what I am told to do, then that's what I'll do.
"All I can do is act in a professional and respectful manner and see what happens after that. I will be keeping my head down and just getting on with my job.
"I have two years left on my Newcastle United contract and at no time have I ever said that I want to leave the club.
Will it ever end? I wish he'd make his bloody mind up once and for all. Having said that I hope he does stay, we are short on strikers and there doesn't appear to much action in the transfer market.

Wenger makes striker bid
Is it robinho? Owen? Torres?
Nope.
Arsenal have made a bid to sign Monaco's Emmanuel Adebayor and the striker admits it would be difficult to turn down a move to Highbury.
The Togolese forward had a good season with the Principality outfit last term, bagging nine goals in 34 games, and has experience of the UEFA Champions League.
Arsene Wenger is interested in raiding his former club in an attempt to land the lanky 21-year-old and pep up his attack.
"Considering what I know, Monaco received two firm transfer offers during the last weeks," Adebayor told France Football.
"One from Toulouse and a later one from Arsenal.
"For the moment, Monaco are not pursuing it. But I can tell you, it could change if I don't prolong my contract.
"You can't refuse a club like Arsenal.
"I think the two most tempting clubs to hire me are PSG and Arsenal.
"I like Paris and I like Marseille.
"Personally, I will do anything to find an agreement with Monaco.
"Monaco consider me to be an important player but they treat me as a young player from the academy."
French sources claim Arsenal are prepared to pay €8 million for the African attacker, who is determined to secure a wage hike.

I think Newcastle were only prepared to offer £50,000 a week. But if that is the case, look at it from Figo's point of view. How on earth is he meant to get by on that pittance?
True, it's slavery.
I'm glad we aren't giving in to his extortionate wage demands, if we don't sign him because he's being too greedy then i won't be fussed. If he's that desperate to play in the Premiership then his wages shouldn't be too much of a stumbling block.
I'm surprised he hasn't pissed off to Qatar.
Oh and on the Emre front, it's not very clear, there was expected to be an official announcement today, but there's been nothing from Newcastle about the signing, which means that we probably won't hear anything until Monday at the earliest.

Wenger confident of Hleb signing (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/4103360.stm)
Wenger confident on Hleb signing
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is confident Belarus midfielder Alexander Hleb will be at Highbury next season.
"The transfer will be completed in the next few days. I think he can start packing his bags to come to us," Wenger told the Stuttgarter Nachrichten paper.
Wenger has reportedly already held an initial meeting with the 24-year-old after being granted permission from VfB Stuttgart to open transfer talks.
Stuttgart have agreed to sell after Arsenal increased their offer to £6m.
Wenger is a long-time admirer of the talented, two-footed midfielder and has wasted no time in negotiating a quick deal while in Germany commentating on the Confederations Cup for French television.
And he stepped up his interest as soon as new Stuttgart coach Giovanni Trapattoni made it clear Hleb could leave.
"It is fundamentally not a good idea to force a player to stay when they want to leave," Trappattoni told Bild magazine. "The team is far more important than one individual."
Hleb has scored 13 goals in 137 Bundesliga appearances for Stuttgart, and has won 10 senior caps for Belarus.
He has three years left on his deal with the Bundesliga club and recently his agent insisted Chelsea were also keen to bring him to the Premiership.
"Chelsea are also genuinely interested, however Arsenal have priority as Arsene Wenger has been dreaming of having Alexander in his team for two years now," said his representative Nikolai Spilevski.

Anyone heard anything about an 18 mill bid from Chelsea to Man City for SWP's???
This would be fantastic news, I heard on the BBC this morning.
The Gilardino transfer saga takes another two twists....
Firstly, the general manager of Parma who this week met with Milan's Adriano Galliani about the player moving to Milan resigned yesterday.
Secondly, Fiorentina have made a what looks to be a very tempting bid of £15m, plus defender William Viali and highly-rated young striker Giampaolo Pazzini but Parma have rejected it.

Kezman off to Athletico Madrid ? (http://footballmsn.skysports.com/transfernews.asp?type=article&id=287403)
Whilst i'm pleased that we have signed Parker and look to be getting Emre, I feel that strengthening the defence and attack was possibly a bigger priority.
I think we need more cover for the full-back positions; Carr and Babayaro are rather injury-prone, and we don't really have adequate replacements, especially now that Aaron Hughes has went to Villa. I'm less concerned about our centre-backs, Boumsong has really helped Bramble improve, eventually people will stop judging him based on the old Bramble, Taylor is also looking like a class act, and he is also young.
As for the attack, Bellamy has said he wants to stay, I can't see that happedning though after comments by Souness and Sheperd last season. So if he does go then it leaves an ageing Shearer, a clueless Ameobi, and a rookie Chopra, that simply isn't good enough. Some people have suggested Dyer can play upfront, but his goalscoring record is poor to say the least.
So, there's still a lot of work to be done in the transfer market, I hope that we can now look to the defence and attack now that we've improved the midfield.

John Carew signed for O. Lyon.
Newcastle have been joined in the race to sign Luis Figo by German side Stuttgart, who want him to replace Arsenal-bound Alexander Hleb.
Magpies boss Graeme Souness has admitted "there is an interest there as far as Luis Figo is concerned" - but is prepared to take his time mulling over a move for the 32-year-old winger.
That has opened the door for Stuttgart, who recently appointed former Italy coach Giovanni Trappattoni and saw him immediately target Real Madrid outcast Figo as a replacement for 24-year-old Hleb.
Belarus star Hleb is on the verge of a move to Highbury - and Trappattoni wants Figo to plug the gap of playmaker in his team.
That may force Souness to speed up negotiations with Figo and his representatives - but the Portugal veteran's wage demands of around £4.6m a year could still prove to be a stumbling block.
The Toon chief has some room to manoeuvre after getting Laurent Robert, Aaron Hughes and Andy O'Brien off the payroll.
And he may be able to afford Figo's wages if he can also offload Lee Bowyer, who has been tracked by Charlton and Birmingham.
From Teamtalk.com
Looks like Hleb does need to pack his bags....

Aston Villa have completed the signing of striker Kevin Phillips from Championship side Southampton.
The former Watford and Sunderland hit-man has put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal with David O'Leary's side after passing medical on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old becomes the club's fourth new signing of the summer, joining Patrik Berger, Aaron Hughes and Stuart Taylor in making a switch to Villa Park.
With Southampton suffering relegation from The Premiership on the last day of the season, Phillips will still have the opportunity to show his wares in the top-flight with The Villans.
"I'm delighted to be back in The Premiership and to come to such a great club is a good move for me," Phillips told Villa's official website.
"I know the manager has been interested in signing me for some time and when it became clear Villa were still in for me this summer, there was no doubt in my mind.
"I didn't want to go anywhere else.
"It's a boost as a player to know the manager rates you so highly and hopefully I can justify that faith with a few goals here next season.
"I know I'm not guaranteed a place. We have some good strikers - Juan Pablo Angel, Darius Vassell and young Luke Moore.
"But I'm determined to make my mark and show I can still get goals in The Premiership."
