Thought I'd create this thread so that we don't end up with threads about every rumour clogging up the forum.

I'll start with a couple:

Aston Villa have had undisclosed bids accepted for Craig Bellamy and Aaron Hughes (Source (http://www.nufc.com))

Dider Drogba is apparently homesick, and would fancy a move back to Marseille in the Summer, providing they have the resources to launch a bid for Ligue 1 next season (Source (http://www.sportinglife.com/football/news/story_get.dor?STORY_NAME=socce r/05/05/18/SOCCER_Chelsea_Drogba.html&TEAMHD=soccer))

I'm not happy about Bellamy moving to Villa, mainly because I rate him so highly, and I think he'll tear us apart when we face him again.

I cannot see Eto'o leaving Barca, especially after what happened at the Bridge.

Alexander Hleb has been mentioned numerous times along with Thomas Rosicky for a move to Arsenal. I don't have links for those two, but it's a known fact.

Gilardinho and Marcus Rosenberg have been mentioned.

A source for the latter is here. (http://www.worldfootballers.com/news.php?id=5661)

Betis shouldn't sign him. He isn't good enough for them, or Espanyol. Bolton don't exactly have a vast range up front, Kevin Davies usually plays on his own up front, so I reckon he would be good for them, maybe since Bolton are now in Europe too, he could be useful.

This isn't exactly a transfer, but Norwich have released Graham Stuart (great- he's absolutely useless), Danny Crow (surprised by this. Good young player, scored a lot in the reserves and did well on loan at Northampton) and Marc Edworthy (no! He's a great player, better right back than Helveg, and Helveg probably won't want to stick around in the Championship. What was Worthington thinking?). Just felt the need to say this.Source (http://www.canaries.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/FirstNewsDetail/0,,10355~666237,00.html)

I think a possible stumbling block could be his wages, he was reportedly on £60k a week at Newcastle, I doubt Bolton would fancy paying him that much.

I heard somewhere that he will take a paycut if he goes to Spain, shame he didn't take a paycut to join us, the fecking mercenary.

Kluivert really disappointed me this season, but to be honest, from the beginning he didn't look committed to Newcastle. When I saw Sky Sports interview him when he'd just got into Newcastle, he didn't look happy at all, and I could tell he wasn't gonna have a great season there.

It'll be good for Newcastle if Robert goes as well, cos even though he has a thunderous shot with his left foot, he seems too lazy and inconsistent as well as disruptive. Maybe morale will get better next season, with talk of a long list of players on the managers shortlist.

I just thought that Kluivert lacked interest, he obviously had the talent, but his heart wasn't in it.

Robert will definitely be a miss, like Phatmann says he was inconsistent, but I doubt we will be able to lure the type of player who can provide like he did, albeit a bit more regularly.

Bellamy will be a big loss, Hughes also, alsthough to a lesser extent, due to him being able to cover for various positions in our defence.

In all seriousness, United have been linked with Nigel de Jong, Torres, Essien and John Obi Mikel, if he ever comes out of hiding.

I'm sure he will be the greatest African player since Djemba-Djemba.

There's also semi-realistic reports linking Ronaldo with a move away from United, with Chelski or Real seeming to be his preferred destinations. If we can get over £20 million for the lad, I say sell him.

I got this news from KopTalk:

Didi Hamann, Igor Biscan, Jerzy Dudek, Harry Kewell, Mauricio Pellegrino, Josemi, Antonio Nunez and Milan Baros are all tipped for an exit. A couple of them could be saved if proposed incoming transfers (replacements) collapse.

Steve Finnan was down as a possible departee earlier in the season but he's impressed the manager and he's safe. Djimi Traore could be moved on but Rafa is in no rush to get rid of him and you'd expect him to want to stay. Anthony Le Tallec, Salif Diao and Florent Sinama-Pongolle are other players who are available.

Stephane Henchoz has gone and Gregory Vignal will also be off the books soon along with El-Hadji Diouf, Vladimir Smicer, Richie Partridge, Jon Otsemobor, Paul Harrison, Mark Smyth and of course Patrice Luzi. There was talk that Rafa wanted Alou Diarra back at Anfield but the player can't seem to make his mind up as to where he wants to be. Despite his promising season at Lens, he's likely to be off-loaded along with Bruno Cheyrou.

According to the daily mail:

Birmingham city tried to launch a reverse bid. Meaning they wanted Andrew Johnson and they'll give us (Palace) some cash and return Clinton Morrison, who we dont want because he's crap now. Simon Jordon basically told them to fuck off, and AJ doesnt like Steve Bruce anyway.

FOOL I TELL YE, selling ronaldo would be the dumbest most stupidest decision any manager can make, that lad has soooo much potential....the rumour is that he is linked because he hasn't (so far) agreed to an contract extension, and real have been interested in him since he broke into the United team and Chelsea are just the annoying team linked with everyone.

Del Horno looks like a blue (as LiamK previously mentioned)

Del Horno: We can't say no to Chelsea
MADRID, May 20 (Reuters) - Athletic Bilbao left back Asier del Horno has confirmed that Chelsea are interested in signing him and said the offer from the English champions is the chance of a lifetime for both him and his club.

'This is a unique opportunity for me and for Athletic,' the 24-year-old Spanish international told Onda Cero radio station on Friday.

'If you look at the figures that are being talked about then it seems unthinkable that a team would pay that sort of money for me. For both Athletic and me it would be difficult to say no to an offer like this.

'With a contract like this I would sort out not just my life but the life for my whole family. Athletic would be able to clear their debts and renew the contracts of players like Tiko, (Fran) Yeste, (Pablo) Orbaiz and (Andoni) Iraola.'

Spanish media report that the English champions are offering between €14 million ($17.71 million) and €18 million ($22.77 million) for the defender and are prepared to pay him a salary of up to three million euros, over three times what he now earns at Athletic.

Del Horno's agent Jokin Barcena is reported to have been in London this week for talks with Chelsea.

A powerful attacking left back who is strong in the air, Del Horno is under contract to Athletic until 2007.

He came up through the youth ranks at Athletic and has caught the eye for his fine performances for the Basque side when they have played against Real Madrid, scoring five goals against them in the last four seasons.

He made his debut for Spain last September in a friendly against Scotland and has gone on to win six caps and score two goals, including the winner against England in November.

Chelsea are known to be looking for a player to challenge Wayne Bridge on the left side of defence.

oh look what I've found :D...... http://www.football-rumours.com/dodgy.htm

Some of those are a bit dodgy

e.g.

Sunderland to land Koller and Smicer to form a new forward line for first sean back in premier. Parnaby and Zat Knight added to defence and Darren Carter in midfield. Mick Mac hope to get a right winger on season long loan

I doubt Zat Knight would want to leave Fulham for Sunderland, the others are slight possibilities but still doubtful, not to say that Sunderland are not very good or anything but why would he want to leave a mid-table team and join a likely relegation team.

Owen is returning to anfield for 14m, reason? real madrid are signing diego, and owen will be fourth choice striker and will not stay. liverpool have first choice on owen and are still owed 6m from first transfer. this is 100% true and owen will be at a press confrence on the saturday after cl final along with reina (6m) and aimar (px baros). this is from the liverpool press office where my wife works

Rumour has it Rafael van der Vaart is joining Hamburg. This is not true as his agent Soren Lerby has been shown around a flat in Liverpool.

Liverpool are set to offload goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek to Aston Villa. Also Biscan,Diao,Diouf,Hamann,Vigna l,Smicer are all leaving. Cheyrou & Diarra to french teams, Ins : Evra,Reina,Mintal,O'Neill from Portsmouth & Julio Baptista, also Vicente remains a target with baros in exchange, if not Baros for sissko (20 year old valencia midfielder)

Great rumours for Liverpool, I'm defienetley putting that bet on them to win the title if they can get Owen and Aimar!

Ipswich transfer news - Kelvin Davis is apparently a target of Wenger (but that was probably just another reporter putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5)

Darren Bent is almost definetly off for the prem just a race for who wants him most and who can afford him. Because we don't need to sell him it won't be another Matt Holland for £600,000, or whatever it was. Obviously Charlton want him, I'd imagine Newcastle will be interested ;) , I'd of thought they'd have to pay around the £5 mil mark for him though but he's more than worht it on his day.

Yeah they were best mates, came through the youth and reserve team together so the good understanding comes from that. Aha! Take that you wankers!

Birmingham City have abandoned their interest in Andy Johnson after making an enquiry for the Crystal Palace striker.
Blues boss Steve Bruce had been keen to bring Johnson back to St Andrews, three years after allowing him to leave the club as a makeweight in the Clinton Morrison deal.
While Morrison's star has dimmed in the intervening period, Johnson has gone from strength to strength and even earned an England cap.
Johnson scored 22 goals this season but was unable to keep Palace in The Premiership and their relegation has sparked talk he will move on again in the summer.
West Bromwich Albion have already failed in a bid to tempt the 24-year-old back to the Midlands, after their £2 million plus Robert Earnshaw offer was snubbed by Palace.
Birmingham have also expressed an interest but, after receiving no encouragement from Selhurst Park, have now turned their attention elsewhere.
A club statement read: "Birmingham City's chief executive Karren Brady can confirm that an enquiry was made to Crystal Palace regarding the availability of their striker Andrew Johnson.
"However, Crystal Palace made it clear that Andrew Johnson is not for sale and at no point was a bid actually placed.
"As far as Birmingham City is concerned that is the end of the matter and manager Steve Bruce will continue to look elsewhere at other transfer targets."
Liverpool and Newcastle United have also been linked with the hot shot but Palace are steadfast in their determination to keep Johnson.
Eagles chairman Simon Jordan has already stressed that even a bid in excess of £10 million would not persuade him to sell the forward.

Rafael Van der Vaart to Hamburg

Dutch international midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has revealed that he has agreed personal terms with Hamburger SV and expects to move from Ajax to Germany in due course.

The 22-year-old said on Monday: "I’ve agreed personal terms and it’s certain that I’ll be moving to Germany. HSV is a great club and I’ll be signing a four-year deal with them."

However, despite the certainty of the player, Ajax and HSV have yet to agree a fee for the transfer. The player has a contract in Amsterdam until 2006 and Ajax are looking to recoup about €7 million on his sale. The Germans are willing to fork out €5 million, so a compromise of sorts must be agreed before the deal is finalised.

Hamburger SV missed out on European qualification this season, and see van der Vaart as a major contributor in next season's push.

Alexander Hleb to Arsenal?

Arsene Wenger is reportedly ready to make Alexander Hleb his first signing of the summer as The Gunners look to strengthen their squad and catch up with London neighbours Chelsea.
Wenger has been promised substantial transfer funds by the club's board, and has been tracking the Belarus international midfielder for well over a year.
Hleb is believed to have a buy-out clause in his contract at a value of around €15 million and could well be set to leave current club Stuttgart, with a host of European giants monitoring his progress.
The 24-year-old would provide strong competition for Freddie Ljungberg on the right wing of the Gunners midfield, and has proved himself to be a standout performer in Die Bundesliga with the Swabians.
Hleb himself admitted that he has a diverse range of options should he desire to further his career away from the Gottlieb-Daimler Stadium, and revealed that the North London outfit had shown the most concrete interest to date.
"Yes, there are teams looking at me," said Hleb.
"I believe they are Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Arsenal.
"But Arsenal have shown the strongest interest, we will have to wait and see."
However The Gunners may have to stump up serious cash if they are to test the resolve of Stuttgart, as the German outfit have previously intimated they are determined to keep hold of the star.

Appiah to Boro

Boro step-up interest in Juve's Appiah
Middlesbrough have stepped up their bid to sign Juventus midfielder Stephen Appiah with an official approach to the Italian club.

They are hoping to add the 24-year-old to their squad this summer, with the Ghanaian having struggled to break into the Serie A champions' side during the current season.

Appiah has spent the last eight years in Italy, dazzling as a teenager with Udinese before joining Parma.

A loan spell at Brescia gave him a stage on which he impressed sufficiently to gain the admiration of Juventus, but his opportunities look limited in Turin next season.

Boro chief executive Keith Lamb told the club website: 'He's somebody we have an interest in and if we can do anything there then we will.

'Juventus are aware of our interest but he's just one of a number of players on the manager's list.'

It is understood Boro may try to sign Appiah on a season-long loan deal.

Boro have almost closed out a deal for Portsmouth forward Aiyegbeni Yakubu, while they are also hopeful that Boudewijn Zenden will sign a new contract at the Riverside.

Veteran centre-back Colin Cooper committed himself to a further 12 months at the club today, while negotiations continue with regards to a new deal for boss Steve McClaren.

Hmm..the first is from Reuters, backed up by goal.com, and the second is from goal.com

PSV Eindhoven midfielder Johann Vogel will sign a three-year contract with AC Milan, the Dutch champions announced on Thursday.

The Swiss international has agreed terms with coach Carlo Ancelotti and president Adriano Galliani.

"They are an absolutely top team, this is like a dream," said the 28-year-old Vogel about his transfer to the losing Champions League finalists.

Vogel joined PSV in 1999 and will leave PSV without a fee as his contract expires in the close season. PSV midfielder Mark van Bommel signed for Barcelona earlier this month.

Spanish daily Marca is reporting this morning that AC Milan want to sign former Inter star Ronaldo.
“Berlusconi wants Ronaldo,” reads the Madrid based paper’s front page today.

According to the article the AC Milan supremo would be ready to offer Real around 60 million Euros in exchange for R9’s services.

If the sensational deal takes place it would be a further act of betrayal of the Brazilian striker towards the Nerazzurri fans, who still haven’t forgiven Ronaldo for going to Madrid after winning the 2002 World Cup.

Robinho wiill be moving to Real madrid, the deal will be made official once santos's involvment in the copa Libertadores is over
Or will it?
Brazilian super-kid Robinho has played down talk of a move to Arsenal.

The Santos starlet is focusing on helping his club win the Copa Libertadores but The Gunners sent representatives to Sunday's domestic league clash with Atletico Mineiro and they were accompanied by the player's agent Wagner Ribeiro.

Real Madrid remain favourites to snare the South American prodigy when he decides to embark on a career in Europe, but reports of interest from Arsene Wenger could see the chase hot up.

"They were there to look at the soccer in general," Robinho told Radio Cultura. "Not only Santos and not only me.

"I prefer to stay at Santos and win the Copa Libertadores.

"I want to give my best to help Santos become champions.

"What will be better for everybody will be better for me as well."

Chelsea and Barcelona have also showed an interest in the 21-year-old, who did not score in the 3-0 win against Atletico Mineiro.

However, he bagged a brace in the Copa Libertadores against Universidad de Chile on Wednesday to help smooth Santos' passage into the quarter finals.

Robinho has 13 goals in the competition this term and his performance in midweek drew critical acclaim as he earned a penalty, which he converted himself, with a sublime piece of skill.
Elfsborg have opened talks with Swedish striker Mathias Svensson.

The 30-year-old has a clause in his contract which allows him to leave if a top-flight club from Europe makes a bid of £100,000 or more.

Now Elfsborg have lodged an offer and Norwich have no choice but to allow Svensson to talk about a return to his homeland.

"We very much hope that Matt will choose to stay at Carrow Road for the final year of his deal," Canaries chief executive Neil Doncaster told the club's website.

"However we would obviously respect Matt's right to return to Sweden in accordance with his contract if he wished.

"In the event that Matt does decide to go, the full amount of any transfer fee and all savings in wages would go straight into Nigel Worthington's transfer kitty."
The fact that the money will be spent somewhere else (like the defence) makes this move not that bad. Also, it could be good to give Ryan Jarvis a few more than he's had in the past couple of seasons.
Norwich City striker Leon McKenzie is treating reports linking him with a move to Charlton Athletic as paper talk.

Although The Canaries suffered the drop this term, the former Peterborough United was in fine form with a 10-goal league haul.

The 27-year-old marksman has one year remaining on his Norwich deal and Nigel Worthington may cash in on him now rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer.

McKenzie is currently away on holiday following the conclusion of The Premiership and has not been informed whether the reported interest from Charlton is concrete.

"I'm away at the moment and I haven't spoken to my agent, but it all sounds like paper talk to me," said McKenzie to the Eastern Daily Press.
Although Marrison will want this to be true- I don't. McKenzie always gives 100%, and in the Championship his skill will be above average. And both McKenzie and Svensson can't go.

I have. But that's the only one of the major three rumours (Green, Francis, Ashton) I actually want to go. He's worth around £4-5m, and that money would be good to spend on the defence, plus he won't be missed too much with Welsh international Darren Ward and Scottish international Paul Gallacher on the bench, who are bothy decent keepers.

Johnson Bid Puts Palace On Warpath

CRYSTAL PALACE Chairman Simon Jordon said he "wouldn't sell a packet of crisps to Birmingham City" as the row over Andrew Johnson's future erupted again last night.
Jordan, who has turned down a £7.5 million bid from Tottenham for Johnson and Wayne Routledge, reserved his most vehement criticism for the Midlands club, claiming their managing director Karren Brady leaked details of their interest in the striker. He said "Birmingham are nothing more than a bunch of clowns."
"They don't tell the truth and I wouldn't sell them a packet of crisps. Anyway, Andy would never sign for them. This is a club that told him he wasn't good enough, sold him a few years ago and whose manager (Steve Bruce) labelled him a diver."
Spurs hope to avoid a tribunal for out-of-contract Routledge. They may now offer fringe players to make the double bid more attractive, possibly Michael Brown and Calum Davenport.
Palace last night signed Millwall defender Darren Ward in a £1.1 million deal and agreed terms with Cardiff winger Jobi McAnuff.

 Jordan is a legend.

In reply the peoples fron Birmingham said:

Birmingham co-owner David Sullivan has threatened to sue Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan over an alleged verbal attack on the club and chief executive Karren Brady.

Outspoken Palace chief Jordan is reported to have hit out at Brady over an enquiry for Eagles ace Andrew Johnson, and now Sullivan is now ready to take action against Jordan.

"We will be putting it in the hands of our solicitors and libel experts," Sullivan told The Sun.

"I believe in free speech and this may just be one man's opinion. But I don't know why Simon Jordan wants to keep saying these things.

"He seems to have criticised almost everyone in football. It strikes me he has a serious problem and needs to see an anger-management expert."

Birmingham co-owner David Gold echoed the sentiments of Sullivan hitting out at Jordan's antics.

"He's carrying a bitter grudge and is acting like a man who's had an argument with his wife and taking 10 years to get over it," said Gold.

Sunderland are officially interested in signing ipswich keeper and future England number one, Kelvin Davis.

Plus Tommy Miller is likely to move to Sunderland on a free mainly because of the fact that he grew up near Sunderland.

Rumour that Blackburn are amongst a few clubs including Birmingham and Sunderland looking to sign Sefki Kuqi on a free.

What's wrong it's usually Newcastle that buy all our players, or maybe it's Newcastle get the really good players and Sunderland get the half decent ones ;) Don't know why the hell we didn't get them to sign longer contracts or even sign new ones in Jan.

On a positive note Heidar Helguson is joining Ipswich.

Yossi

Why do Ipswich players always go to the North-East? Maybe they want to get as far away from Ipswich as possible. ;) But seriously, nice to see your squad get torn apart.

Norwich City are understood to have joined the chase for Stoke City defender Wayne Thomas.

The 26-year-old is out of contract at The Britannia Stadium in the summer and is yet to agree new terms.

He is now free to discuss possible moves elsewhere and it does not look as if there will be a shortage of offers.

As well as Norwich, Derby, Ipswich and Burnley are all expected to make Thomas an offer.

"Wayne is a free agent because he has not signed a contract, so he is free to talk to other clubs," said Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes.

"We would like to keep him because he has been a good servant to the club for the last few years. But by not agreeing a contract it makes it that more difficult.

"I know Tony would like to keep him, but we know we are in competition with other clubs."

Thomas's agent Justin Page admitted that his client was now considering his future plans.

"Now that the season is over we will spend time weighing up the options for Wayne and I would expect that the interest we are already aware of from other clubs will also be confirmed," said Page.

He has been offered a one-year contract extension and Todd said: "We would like to bring him here but I don't know what the position is with Newcastle now.

"He is on the shortlist but it's not realistic because of the wage demands."

Silly season has started with the Saturday and sunday papers as buffon has been linked with a £35million move to Man utd,Robinho to arsenal £14million and fernando torres in a £20million exchange deal including pires to arsenal

ARSENAL will this week open negotiations for Spanish sensation Fernando Torres.

The boy wonder striker, once dubbed Spain's Wayne Rooney, will move to Highbury if the Gunners can reach an agreement with cash-strapped Atletico Madrid.

Torres is valued at around £20million, but Arsenal want to use players as part of a deal to bring the young striker, known to his adoring fans as El Nino (The Boy), to London.

Midfielders Edu and Robert Pires could enter the equation. Both are surplus to requirements at Highbury and want to play in La Liga.

Highbury chief Arsene Wenger sees Torres, capped 12 times by Spain, as the perfect foil for Thierry Henry, who has demanded reinforcements up front.

He would also help Arsenal's homesick Spaniard Jose Antonio Reyes, his international team-mate, to settle in London.

Torres, who has a contract at Atletico until 2008, had been planning to stay for one more year to play in the Champions League. But a disastrous end to the season has left Atletico without a place in Europe - furious fans even invaded a training session last week.

The disappointment of failing to qualify even for the UEFA Cup has been the final straw for Torres and he has asked his advisors to broker a move to the Premiership.

Torres, 21, broke into the Atletico first team as a raw 17-year-old and has been the club's top scorer ever since.

Chelsea showed an interest during the January transfer window, using Adrian Mutu as bait, and Sir Alex Ferguson has long been an admirer. But Arsenal are at the front of the queue and the prospect of playing with Henry and his Spanish pal Reyes is hugely tempting for Torres.

Her's the story on the robinho-arsenal link

Robinho has long been touted as the next big star to emerge from the historically football rich grounds of Brazil, and both Real Madrid and Chelsea are believed to hold a strong interest.

The 21-year-old has broken in to the Brazilian national setup after consistently dazzling displays for Santos, and has been praised by Pele amongst others for his prodigious technique and ability.

Despite initially remaining cautious about interest from Arsene Wenger's side, Robinho has now conceded that he is in talks with The Gunners and would love to play alongside French star Thierry Henry.

"Arsenal have been in touch with my people in the last few days and they have made me aware of the offer," Robinho told the News of the World.

"I am very proud that they are looking at me because a club like Arsenal doesn't come in for you every day.

"It would be a dream for me to play alongside Thierry Henry, we will continue to talk."

Arsenal will reportedly launch a £14 million bid for his services, and if Robinho makes the move to Highbury he would join the likes of Robin van Persie and Jose Antonio Reyes in a strike-force blessed with fledgling talent.

However, after being strongly linked with a move to sign the talented youngster in the January transfer window, Real Madrid remain at the head of the queue for his prized signature.

I'd like to see Robinho in the Premiership, it'd be a kick in the teeth for Real Madrid, and it would mean more players joining the Premiership from South America (probably) which would make the league better.
Chelsea are expected to complete the signing of Asier Del Horno early next week.

The formalities of the deal have been concluded after Chelsea instructed Jorge Mendes - agent of boss Jose Mourinho - to broker the move.

The transfer, worth a basic €14 million for Athletic Bilbao, will be sealed once the two clubs' top men - Peter Kenyon and Fernando Lamikitz - have exchanged faxes.

Del Horno was expected to play his last game for Bilbao on Sunday against Numancia, but the club do not want him to risk getting injured and jeopardising the move.

The 24-year-old has already agreed terms on a four-year contract, but he is not expected to be unveiled until later next month.

Del Horno will have the next few days off before linking up with the Spanish national squad ahead of their double header against Lithuania and Bosnia.

"To remember how it was at San Mames, it is not going to be easy to forget that," said Del Horno.

"For me I could easily have gone for free like many foreigners, but now Athletic go away with a great amount of money for my leaving."

Marek Jankulovski to AC Milan

Udinese coach Luciano Spalletti says his Czech international defender Marek Jankulovski is to join Champions League runners up AC Milan.
'Yes, Jankulovski is Milan's. That is what I have been told,' Spalletti told Italy's Sky Sport television on Sunday.

Udinese drew 1-1 with Milan on Sunday, a result which earned them a fourth-place finish in Serie A and a place in the qualifying round of the Champions League for the first time.

Jankulovski, who missed the game through injury, has been widely expected to leave the club at the end of this season, with Milan and champions Juventus both reported to be interested.

A member of the Czech team who reached the semi-finals of Euro 2004, Jankulovski can operate at left back or in midfield.

Houllier new Lyon manager

Lyon have named Gerard Houllier as their new manager.

The French champions have named Houllier as the successor to Paul Le Guen after he revealed earlier this month he would be stepping down at the end of the season.

Houllier, who has been out of work since leaving Liverpool last summer, has signed a two-year deal at Lyon with the option of a third.

The former France national team coach has beaten a host of top names for the post at Stade Gerland.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas admitted he was looking for an experienced manager at the helm and Houllier has a wealth of experience in club and international football.

"We are very happy to greet Gerard, who becomes the club's new coach,"said Aulas.

"I am privately convinced it is the right choice,"

Houllier has a tough act to follow in Le Guen with the former France international helping Lyon win the title for the last three seasons.

The Frenchman is looking forward to the task of taking charge at Lyon.

"I am very happy and proud to be back in the French championship after leaving in 1988," said Houllier.

"It is a huge challenge for me for I know being runner-up is a failure at this club.

Former Arsenal star Remi Garde has been named as assistant to Houllier after working as a scout for the club.

Republic of Ireland international O'Shea was a boyhood Liverpool fan and the 6 million rated defender is finding it increasingly difficult to hold down a regular starting place at Old Trafford.

HERO DIDI TO SIGN ONE YEAR DEAL
Press Report 29 May 2005
Didi Hamann, the hero of Istanbul, will sign a one-year deal with Liverpool following a surprise U-turn.
German midfielder Hamann as due to quit the Kop and switch to Bolton after being forced out of Rafael Benitez's first-team plans.

But his 'farewell' Liverpool appearance in Wednesday's unforgettable Champions League final has prompted a change of heart by both the player and the club. Hamann changed the game when he came on as sub, reminding Liverpool manager Benitez of his quality.

Now the former Newcastle star has been offered a one-season deal and has decided to take it.

Hamann knows it will be tough to win back his first team place at the heart of a midfield now dominated by Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso. But his performance at the Ataturk Stadium convinced him he still has plenty to offer the new European champions.

Hamann will announce over the next few days that he is staying at Anfield.

Bayern Munich have unleashed a scathing rebuke at Owen Hargreaves after he talked up a possible move to Liverpool.

Hargreaves admitted an interest in moving to Liverpool earlier this month and that has followed on from constant speculation linking the England international with a move to The Premiership.

Now Bayern's hierarchy have snapped and their leading duo Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeness have both warned him about his future comments after telling him to realise who his current contract is with.

"I don’t like to see Owen flirting all the time with a move to England," fumed Bayern chairman Rummenigge, who denied that Liverpool have already made an offer for the talented midfielder, who has lost his first-team status under Ottmar Hitzfeld's successor Felix Magath.

"We don’t know anything about the reported offer from Liverpool."

Managing director Uli Hoeness echoed Rummenigge’s sentiments and referred to Hargreaves when being asked if the defensive midfielder would be allowed to leave in the summer.

"If some players don’t play on Saturday they want to leave straight away, but if they are back in the team, they want to extend their contract for five years. They better have to settle to the circumstances here," warned Hoeness.

Bolton ace Stelios Giannakopoulos has admitted he is flattered to be linked with a move to Liverpool.

Reports have suggested that Liverpool are keen on bringing the Greek international to Anfield for next season.

The winger, who has just one year to run on his contract at Bolton, enjoyed a fine season last term helping Bolton win a place in Europe after finishing sixth in The Premiership.

Giannakopoulos revealed he is aware of interest from Liverpool in his services and is waiting to see what develops.

"All I know is that Liverpool have shown interest in me," Giannakopoulos said.

"I don't want to say anything more.

"Right now I have a contract with Bolton.

"It's an honour for me and for Bolton the interest of Liverpool. We will see."

The skilful midfielder also noted the success of Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League and the championship success for former club Olympiakos.

"This season was red. In Greece and in Europe after the triumphs of Olympiakos and Liverpool," added Stelios.

Giannakopoulos, who is back in Greece preparing for their World Cup qualifiers with Turkey and Ukraine, is expecting a difficult test against both countries.

"It's a hard game (Turkey) for us because we are going to have play in front of fanatical fans," he said.

"Also Turkey want the points from a victory and I think that we are going to see a beautiful game.

"It's a critical match for us. If we make it against Turkey and take the victory against Ukraine in Athens, then I think that we will be very close to Germany next June."

Celtic star Bobo Balde has confirmed he is set to leave the club on a free transfer this summer.

The Guinea star signed a new four-year deal in January after having talks with Premiership clubs Middlesbrough and Birmingham. Balde was very close to joining Boro at one point, but he instead opted to remain at Parkhead.

However, he has now confirmed that a clause in his new contract means he can still leave on a free transfer this summer.

Balde is now believed to have until August to find himself a new club, or he must return to Celtic - although with Bayern Munich amongst others known to be interested, a return to Glasgow looks unlikely.

"I am delighted a club such as Bayern Munich say they are interested in me," said the 29-year-old.

"They want five players and say I'm top of the list. I would be very happy if I moved to Munich because they are a huge club.

"I don't have an agent. I have an adviser and his friend works in Germany and Bayern have spoken with him. At the moment Bayern say they haven't made a decision but are still interested.

"I've had a good time with Celtic and I honoured my contract to the end.

"I had four years and then I signed another contract for four years.

"But I put in a clause because I wanted to be free at this time.

"Now I can go to any club for no money because when Middlesbrough and Birmingham asked me to sign for them in January I was free, so why not have the same situation this summer?

"I am free just for this transfer window although I am only interested in people who want me.

"Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in Europe and they say I am top of their list so I will wait until they say they don't want Bobo before I decide to leave Celtic."

Balde, whose final game looks to be the Scottish FA Cup final win over Dundee United, insists he would have no qualms about returning to Celtic.

"If I have to stay here I would also be happy to play for Celtic," he added.

"I have had a very good time with Martin O'Neill but I don't know much about the new manager.

"I would be delighted to work with him so it doesn't matter who is going to be here.

"I'm going on holiday and then I will see what happens. I will get ready to be fit for the next season."

Kakha Kaladze is leaving AC Milan.

Milan defender Kakha Kaladze is to leave the club after failing to hold down a regular starting place this season. La Gazzetta dello Sport claims the Georgian is moving to Chelsea who are in desperate need of a left-back.

However, Kaladze’s hopes of a move to the English champions must surely be tempered by the fact that they are close to signing Asier del Horno from Athletic Bilbao.

"I’m disappointed to leave, but I need to play much more," he said.

Edu - Valencia confirmed

Arsenal midfielder Edu will join Valencia on a five-year deal this summer, according to the Spanish club.
The 26-year-old has long been linked with the club and looks set to become one of new manager Quique Sanchez Flores's first signings.

Valencia said on their website: "President (Juan Bautista) Soler has confirmed the signing of Edu, the Arsenal and Brazil player.

"He will join on 1 July and will play for the team in the next five seasons."

Edu is the first Brazilian player in England to have won both the Premiership title and the FA Cup.

While he has been at Arsenal he has also broken into the Brazilian international team.

Edu joined Arsenal in January 2001 from Corinthians after the move was delayed when he was refused admission to the United Kingdom because he held a fake Portuguese passport.

Sanchez Flores was also unveiled as manager at the same time as the announcement over Edu's future.

The 40-year-old played for Valencia for a decade before joining Real Madrid in 1995, where he also began coaching in 2003 before switching to Getafe in a full-time post.

He replaces Antonio Lopez, who announced after Sunday's win over Osasuna he would not be continuing as coach.

Milan move for Jankulovski
Monday, 30 May 2005
Serie A runners-up AC Milan have signed Czech Republic international Marek Jankulovski from Udinese Calcio for an undisclosed fee.

Double swoop
The 28-year-old has agreed a four-year contract to become Milan's second signing since the UEFA Champions League final defeat by Liverpool FC. The arrival of Switzerland midfielder Johann Vogel from PSV Eindhoven was announced on Thursday.

Key player
Jankulovski, who is currently recovering from a fractured ankle and faces another two months' rehabilitation, was a key player in Udinese's fine 2004/05 season which ended in a fourth-place finish and UEFA Champions League qualification.

Versatile performer
The former FC Baník Ostrava and SSC Napoli player can operate as a left-back or on the left side of midfield and can both defend and score goals - 16 in 91 league appearances over three seasons at the Friuli stadium.

“It is better for everyone if I leave. I am mad because I could have given Real much more than I did. I’m 28, its time I play more,” he told Spanish daily AS.

And next we have Francesco Totti....

The long-awaited official news arrived on Tuesday afternoon.
Francesco Totti has pledged his future to the Giallorossi as the Roma captain signed a 5 year-deal which ties him to the Capital city team till the 30th June of 2010.

The club also announced that the player will be receiving 10.4 million Euros per season.

This huge piece of news squashes all the rumours of a possible transfer of the player away from Rome this summer.

Now the Roman club will decide whether to confirm Cassano as well, or sell the starlet to Juventus.

Continuing from the story Yossi picked up earlier about Jonathan Stead...

Blackburn have accepted an offer of £1m from newly promoted Sunderland for striker Jonathan Stead.

Stead joined Rovers 18-months ago and after making a super impact at Ewood Park he struggled in his first full Premiership season.

"Blackburn accepted a fee and gave Jon permission to speak to Sunderland," said Stead’s agent John Seasman.

"Mick was pursuing him when he left Huddersfield and was disappointed he didn’t sign but circumstances change and Jon wants to carry on his career."

The 22-year-old only managed two goals last season and is expected to leave for a fee around the £1.2m that Rovers paid for him.

The 32-year-old has fallen out with Real coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo after starting several games from the bench in the latter part of the season.

"But I think his future depends more on him than it does on us...If he continues to feel down about his situation then it won’t be good for him or for us."

Marca claim that Inter have made enquiries about Figo, Santiago Solari and Walter Samuel.

Juve make Cassano bid/Robert Kovac set for Juve

Juventus have reportedly made Roma an initial player plus cash offer in their bid to sign Antonio Cassano.

Director general Luciano Moggi is understood to have met with Giallorossi chief operating officer Rosella Sensi on Tuesday to start talks.

The Bianconeri are ready to hand over Adrian Mutu and £9m for the Italian international forward.

Moggi made contact at the request of Fabio Capello, who bossed the youngster during his time in the Italian capital.

Juve are also keen to wrap up the deal as soon as possible given that Inter and Real Madrid are also interested in the former Bari starlet.

The Stadio Olimpico side will now have to decide what to do with Cassano as his contract expires in 2006.

The club have already extended the contracts of Vincenzo Montella and Francesco Totti but an agreement with Cassano may be difficult.

The cost of keeping the 23-year-old would be high and it may make more sense to cash in on him, especially as they will now be paying Totti £7.5m-a-season.

It was believed that Juve would offer cash and Shabani Nonda to the Giallorossi but that now looks unlikely.

Reports in Italy today suggest that Nonda has failed a medical and therefore will not complete a summer move to Juve from Monaco.

Bayern Munich stopper Robert Kovac has passed his medical and he is set to be confirmed as a Juve player very soon.

Meanwhile, Olivier Kapo could be heading back to France. The winger has failed to settle in Turin since his move from Auxerre and Monaco are keen on his services.

Gerard Lopez signs for Monaco

Barcelona's Spanish midfielder Gerard has signed a four-year deal with French Ligue 1 side Monaco, his agent said on Wednesday.
'He was in Monaco early this morning to pass a medical and then flew back to Barcelona where he signed all the papers that will see him join the team for the next four years,' Jose Maria Orobitg told Reuters by telephone.

'It was all a bit of a rush, but the deal has now been completed.'

Gerard's contract with Spanish champions Barcelona expires at the end of June.

Once one of Spain's brightest prospects in midfield, Gerard signed for Barcelona from Valencia in 2000 for just over $20 million but his progress at the club was hampered by a succession of injury problems.

The 26-year-old had been in talks with Barca over a possible contract renewal but the recent signing of Dutch international midfielder Mark van Bommel from PSV Eindhoven pushed him further down the pecking order at the Catalan club.

Gerard, who won six caps for Spain in 2000, underwent surgery on a groin injury last November and played only 13 league games for Barca this season.

Monaco to swoop for Kapo

Monaco are set to step up their efforts to bring Olivier Kapo to the club on loan from Juventus.

Kapo arrived in Turin last summer from Auxerre, but failed to hold down a regular starting berth with the Old Lady and is ready to move on.

Premiership side Newcastle and Liga outfit Real Betis have been rumoured to be interested, but it is being suggested that Kapo's desire to work under Didier Deschamps could tip the balance in Monaco's favour.

Should Kapo move to the Principality, he is unlikely to line up alongside Shabani Nonda who is being tipped to move on in the summer.

Juventus are keen, but the player is not believed to be enamoured by the prospect of moving to Turin and being farmed out on loan.

It is being suggested that Juve are looking to use the Congo striker as an exchanged pawn in a future deal, but the forward has informed his agent to find him an alternative destination - with Lille, Lens and Marseille being linked with the powerful striker.

Figo wants Premier rescue
Luis Figo has begged for a move to Liverpool or Manchester United after being shown the door at Real Madrid. Real have told the Portuguese midfield Galactico, 32, he can leave for a nominal fee after falling out of favour with coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo.
Figo has been kept out of the Real team by David Beckham and now admits he would fancy a move to the England skipper’s old club United or European champions Liverpool. Yet UEFA Cup hopefuls Bolton and Middlesbrough are more likely to bid. Figo said: “I have always said the Premiership is a competition I would like to play in one day. I have been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United and I think both of those clubs are fantastic.”
Dave Kidd, The Sun

Fergie in for Park player
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has set up a shock deal for PSV Eindhoven's South Korean star Ji-Sung Park. The 24-year-old all-action midfielder is due to have talks with United after a secret swoop was set up by Ferguson, who watched him in action in the Champions League. Park, who scored a stunner against AC Milan in the sem-final, is a workaholic midfielder who would bring a new dimension to United. Park can also play on the wing and would give cover for Cristiano Ronaldo and competition for Ryan Giggs. PSV will sell because Park's contract is running out. Insiders claim the fee may be as low as £3million - and United could recoup the fee quickly off the pitch. Park would help them crack the Asian market where he was recently voted 'most favourite athlete'.

Signing Park would let United sell Kleberson, with Portuguese side Benfica expected to revive their interest in the £1.5million Brazilian. And Wigan believe United's Phil Neville is the ideal player to bring experience and versatility to them as they start in the Premiership. He could go for around £2.5m.
Alan Nixon and David McDonnell, Daily Mirror

Fergie has Green on his wanted list
Manchester United have Norwich City goalkeeper Robert Green on their list of candidates for the No.1 position at Old Trafford. On the day Green admitted for the first time that he may have to leave relegated Norwich this summer, it emerged that United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is keeping tabs on his situation. Green said: "If you have England aspirations you have to prove yourself at the highest level."

I beg to differ. When I tell you the kid can handle pressure, I mean it. Marseille were losing 1-0 against PSG, a vital game.

The crowd started cheering his name for some reason past the halfway mark of the second half, which lead to him being subbed on for the last 10 minutes, I have never seen anything like it, the whole Marseille home crowd stood up, despite booing their own team throughout the game for a poor performance.
Nasri was causing all types of problems for PSG single-handedly, which lead to the equaliser. I don't mean to overrate him, but he shows Zidane-esque composure, he's definetly capable of being the next Zidane seen as he has atleast a decade to progress, I also can't remember people having a frenzy over Zidane when he was 17.

The fact Marseille gave him a professional contract as soon as he hit 17 and the £7 million price tag they have put on the kid justifies his worth.

It's been done before. I am yet to be convinced.

Nobody had a frenzy over Zidane at 17 or 21 because he simply wasn't that good then. He was nothing special. He came to everyone's attention in 1996(?) during Bordeaux's UEFA Cup run, particularly his starring role in the quarter-final(?) second leg clash when they won 3-0 at home to AC Milan and qualified 3-2 on aggregate.

Milan defender Kaka Kaladze appears on the verge of joining Premiership champions Chelsea.
The 27-year-old, who joined the Rossoneri from Dinamo Kiev, struggled for first-team football last season.

"After Saturday’s qualifier against Albania, Kakha will fly to London to sign a contract with Chelsea," said the player’s father Karlo Kaladze.

"Everything has been agreed, it’s just a matter of signing a contract."

Kaladze fell further down the pecking order at the San Siro after Milan signed Marek Jankulovski this week.

Ofcourse Vieira had potential. Like Nasri, though AC didn't know what to do with him, think those were the days of George Weah and Co.

Yes, it was the time of Weah, but we didn't have an amazing defensive midfielder at the time. It was around this time we bought Bari's other "amazing player". Juve got Zambrotta, we got "I can't pass forwards, only sideways or backwards" Diego De Ascentis. Still makes me cringe.

Adriano news:

Inter Milan striker Adriano has insisted he has no interest in signing for Chelsea despite being linked with a move to the Premiership champions.
The Brazil international, who scored 16 goals in Serie A last season, had been tipped for a £60m move to England.
"Throughout the season Chelsea have been there with a multi-million pound offer but appear to have become more determined," he told Jornal do Brazil.
"I'm happy to know that but am happy in Milan where I'm treated like a king."
Adriano joined Inter Milan from Italian rivals Parma in 2003 and has pledged to stay at the club for at least one more season.
"I hope to complete one more year there at least and I don't think about leaving," he said.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has admitted a striker is one of his summer transfer priorities.
"Three are leaving, three are coming in," Mourinho told Portuguese newspaper A Bola.
"We're going to bring in a left-back, a midfielder and a centre-forward."

Jon Macken:

Striker Jon Macken has left Manchester City to join Crystal Palace for an undisclosed fee.
The 27-year-old, who signed for City for £5m in 2002, decided to continue his career elsewhere after being told he had no future at Eastlands.
"I was very disappointed to be told by Stuart Pearce I would not figure highly in his plans for next season," he said.
"Palace were unlucky to be relegated last year and I'm looking forward to the chance to take them back up again."
Macken, who failed to establish himself as a regular first-team player at City, was quicky snapped up by Palace because of his impressive goalscoring record in the Championship.
"I felt as though things were just starting to come together for me at City. The team were playing well and there was a real buzz about the place," he added.
"But I need to be playing regularly and having spoken to a few clubs, I was most impressed by Crystal Palace and in particular the manager [Iain Dowie] and chairman [Simon Jordan].
"They both have a reputation for being ambitious men and I was left in no doubt by either of them that a return to the Premiership was the only aim they had for this season."

Palermo and Fiorentina are set to fight it out for Milan reserve ‘keeper Christian Abbiati this summer.

The Italian, fed up of being Nelson Dida’s reserve at the San Siro, will quit the outfit in the summer and he has numerous admirers in Italy and abroad.

Palermo and Fiorentina are his most likely destinations with both clubs looking for a first class shot-stopper.

The Sicilian giants were already linked last summer but Milan refused to sell the Italian international.

They are ready to offer this year’s Champions’ League finalists cash and goalkeeper Matteo Guardalben – who will then become Dida’s new No 2.

Yet the Viola have joined the chase given their difficulties with Cristiano Lupatelli and Cristian Cejas this term.

The Rossoneri are ready to sell Abbiati, whose contract expires in 2008, and the Artemio Franchi team are prepared to meet his £2m-a-season wages.

The former Monza and Under-21 international is keen for first team football in an effort to make the 2006 World Cup squad.

Paris Saint-Germain boss Laurent Fournier has confirmed he wants to bring Milan’s Vikash Dhorasoo to the Parc des Princes.

The France midfielder has put in some impressive displays during his one season at Milan, but is considering a return to Ligue 1 after failing to gain regular football at the San Siro.

"We don't turn away top players," said Fournier. "Dhorasoo proved his quality at Lyon. Today he is proving his quality with Milan.

"If you don’t take a player like that, it’s like saying you don’t want men with character. He could bring a huge amount to the club and would therefore be welcome."

However, Milan director Leonardo claims that the midfielder will not be sold by them in the summer.

"I have heard nothing of his supposed departure," said the former Brazilian international.

"Dhorasoo didn't play a lot this season, but was always available for the team. Milan do not want to sell him."

United have been linked with Park, from PSV.

He's a very versatile midfielder who can play on the right, left or in the centre. The price would only be around £3 million, because his contract expires shortly. This £3 million would be recouped relatively quickly by tapping into the Asian market, in Asia, Park is the man- Glazer knows this and is very keen to sign him.

Ruud says has made his annual 'I'm staying at United' statement, I say sell the lad to Barca for £30 million.

Tottenham double bid:
Crystal Palace director of football Bob Dowie has confirmed Tottenham have made a double bid for Wayne Routledge and Andy Johnson.
Dowie, brother of Eagles boss Iain, has revealed to Sky Sports News that Routledge has already agreed personal terms with Spurs after being a long-term target for Martin Jol's side.
The two London clubs are in daily contact in a bid to avoid the deal going to a transfer tribunal but Palace's valuation of the winger, who scored for England's Under-20 side against Tunisia in Toulon on Thursday, far exceeds that of Spurs.
Relegated Palace have already snared Jobi McAnuff from Cardiff City as a replacement for Routledge, whose contract expires this summer.
Dowie has reiterated his brother and chairman Simon Jordan's claim that star striker Johnson is not for sale despite facing the prospect of playing Championship football next term.
The England international, involved in the tour of the United States with Sven Goran Eriksson's men, was confirmed as a Tottenham target, despite a surfeit of strikers at White Hart Lane, but Dowie stressed that all offers for their top scorer will continue to be rebuffed.

Kluivert agrees Valencia transfer

Kluivert struggled to win a place in the Newcastle team
Former Newcastle striker Patrick Kluivert has agreed to sign for Spanish club Valencia on a free transfer.
The Magpies had an option to sign the 28-year-old for a further two years, but did not take it up after the Dutchman's disappointing year.

Kluivert's transfer to Valencia is subject to a medical on 9 June.

Kluivert arrived at Newcastle on a free transfer from Barcelona last summer, but started only 14 Premiership games for the Magpie, scoring six times.

Despite his infrequent appearances, Kluivert finished last season as Newcastle's second highest scorer, with 13 goals, six behind Alan Shearer.

If Kluivert passes the medical he will sign a three-year contract with Valencia, the Primera Liga side said.

Last season the 2004 Spanish champions finished seventh following coach Rafael Benitez's departure to Liverpool.

Kluivert's signing by Valencia follows that of Arsenal's Brazilian midfielder Edu who will join the Spanish club on 1 July on a five-year deal.

Villarreal goalkeeper Jose Reina has given the strongest indication yet that he is on the verge of joining new European champions Liverpool.

Reina, 22, was quoted by The Sun as saying: "If I end up signing for Liverpool it is because they want to sign me and want me to play.

"The question of starting places is for the boss.

"You have to earn your place. I am going there to work and to win my place - and win over the fans."

Reina, who played against Liverpool for Barcelona in the Uefa Cup semi-final in 2001, admitted it was the end of an era for him at Villarreal, who finished third in La Liga last season.

"It has been a tremendous year. I think I have completed a chapter, a very important period in my career at Villarreal.

"But ask any player and they say the most important thing is to keep improving both in terms of ability and finances.

"I have to be patient to see the talks come to fruition but I am not having any trouble sleeping at night. I am very relaxed about it all. Just playing for Liverpool will be good enough for me."

Liverpool already have three goalkeepers on the books in Jerzy Dudek, the hero of the Champions League final penalty shoot-out.

Torres more reliable than Ruud?

As for ''Goal Poaching'' Ruud is arguably the best at that, does it better than Torres.

He (Ruud) himself admitted that he wasn't as good as everyone thought ( I even read that he said his 30 a season days were over, although that was in the news of the world I think), plus he's always getting injured. He just seems like he's player that had a good run and got on top form and is going to find it hard to regain that form, whereas Torres has more quality and doesn't worry about goal scoring for confidence quite as much as Ruud.

Madrid is enchanted with the declarations of the Michael Becker, representative of Ballack, in which it opened the doors of his exit of the Bayern. The white club considers them like a first step important to try its draftee since the international German counts on the approval of the technical body. In any case, Madrid is not arranged to confront a greater payment of 15 million euros by Ballack when being a player who no longer is so young, 28 years, and to which to only lack one to finish its contract him with the Bayern.

The madridistas technicians consider to teutón an interesting option, that nonhigh-priority, to reinforce the position of offensive midfield player. Arrigo Sacchi wants to prop up white medular with two or three draftees. In principle, with the arrival of Pablo Garci'a, who will be the first draftee, and Gravesen it would have left cover the parcel destined to destruction workings, reason why the other two reinforcements would be focused to the offensive work. Ballack is a player with a frightful closing with both legs and that assures more than 10 goals by season.

The Bayern fears to lose to him. The strategy that is going to follow the set white is to wait the movements of the player and their representative and if he puts himself to shot will open negotiations with the Bayern. In declarations made yesterday in Germany, Becker returned to affect which they are open to everything: "In case that there was a supply would be sensible to consider it. I do not know any player to which it would not like to play for Real Madrid ".

The president of the Bayern, Karl Heinz Rummenigge, has tried this week to restrain the rumors on the exit of Ballack: "we did not think to sell it. We want to renew its contract beyond 2006. We know what we have with Michael and he knows what has with the Bayern ". Although it left a surprising phrase: "there are not three equipment in Europe that can be interesting for him".

The reality is that Ballack never has adapted totally to the Bayern and an adventure in a great one outside its country has always considered. In addition he is one of the Accepted icons of, patrocinador of Madrid.

The first option is Gerrard

The first option that handles Madrid to reinforce the position of offensive midfield player is Gerrard. The problem is that after obtaining the Liverpool the Glass of Europe its draftee has become utópico.

Below you will find: Kluivert signs for Valencia, Deportivo La Coruna set to sign two players from AC Milan and Roma announce their first summer signing:

Patrick Kluivert has signed a three-year contract with Valencia after being released by Newcastle.
The Dutch international wasn't kept on by the Magpies after a disappointing season in the Premiership.

The 28-year-old now returns to Spain where he enjoyed success with Barcelona.

"Valencia is an enormous team and therefore I am very excited about this agreement," Kluivert said.

"I have good memories of Spain and therefore I’m glad to make my return, I’m looking forward to playing in the Primera Liga again."

Spanish daily Marca are reporting that Deportivo La Coruna are on the verge of signing Milan duo Jon Dahl Tomasson and Vikash Dhorasoo.
Paulo Futre, Milan’s representative in Spain, and Depor president Caesar Augusto Lendoiro have been working on the deals for weeks now and it seems that a solution has now almost been found.

Deportivo are in dire need of squad reinforcements after a poor season in La Liga where they failed to qualify for Europe.

Both Tomasson and Dhorasoo failed to hold down regular places in the Milan first-team this season and will welcome the chance of regular football.

AS Roma announced they signed Brazilian midfielder Taddei on a free, this Friday.
Taddei, who played with Siena for the past three seasons, signed a contract until 2010.

Inter were also in the running for the right winger.

United have been linked with Park, from PSV

I dont get this transfer.
On the right there is Ronaldo
On the left there is Giggs, and Richardson coming through (i expect him to start getting games)
I have never liked Park in the centre it restricts him to much.
Other positions might be behind Ruud, but we've got Wayne.

What is the point of this transfer, as he wont want to sit on the bench

What is the point of this transfer, as he wont want to sit on the bench

The point is, he adds a shitload of depth to our midfield. Giggs is finished, this guy is 23 and looks like being a long-term replacement.

The other reason as I have already said is that he's God in Asia. Having him play for United would help us tap the Asian market, and both Fergie and Glazer know this.

Plus he'd only cost about £3 million.

Original?
03-06-2005, 16:47
£3 million for Park is an absolute steal, and hola a squad wins cup not a team. Agreed neither Park, Giggs or even Richardson will want to sit on the bench all season but that's what squad rotation is for.

I accept that A) Giggs is finished i want him out
B) 3 million is a steal
C) He would add depth
D) The asia market is something which we need to look into (maybe the one thing we are ahead of Chelsea on)

But... he aint 23 he is 25 almost 26 so is in his prime and will want to play every game, not in a rotation.

So.... I would love United to play Park instead of Scholes and play like such:

Van the Man

Park Rooney

Giggs/Richardson Ronaldo

Keane

I also think we must look to get someone in for a Keane replacement. We have been linked with the likes of De Rossi and Jenas, who would both do the job. Or maybe even Liam Miller.

None of those are good replacements for Roy Keane. A perfect replacement would be someone toward the likes of Michael Essien from Lyon. He would be supreme. He would be like Scholes and Keane rolled into one. Lets just pray that we make a bid for him.

even though de rossi is better than both miller and jenas i think you're right, though if he came to the premeriship i hope he isn't ruined and turns out to be a expensive flop and ends up playing like djemba djemba :(

With Houllier appointed as the new manager of Lyon, would he want to sell Essien to Man Utd?

Nah, I’ve heard that Gerard is interested in signing Liverpool's loaned out French midfielder Diarra as a replacement for Essien if he decides to go. So there is a chance that he might leave. He’s one of the most sought after players at the moment though so there could be a bidding war but he has been quoted as saying he'd like to join Utd, hasn't he?

Kaladze - Nay! (certainly not a swap for Crespo - who is genuine class)
Gilardino/Adriano - Yes please.
Essien - Yes please

Forssell now more or less an Everton player :(

I'll trust Mourinho's decision but I'm still disappointed. Would've loved to see him at Chelsea for a full season, he was one of Europe's biggest talents when we signed him, but injuries (5 serious operations) have ruined any chance of becoming a world-beater. But he's still a class act.

Can't understand why only Everton are in for him though, I know loads of fans of other clubs who'd love him there. Yet Everton are grabbing him for £3m! My Villa mate is tearing his hair out, seeing as they've a £20m transfer kitty this season and haven't even shown interest in him.

Park Ji-Sung is a quality player. One of the best in the Eriedivisie this season, and has also shown his talent on the European stage. Would be a good buy for Man Utd, a good player and also some competition for Giggs/Ronaldo.

Raul to liverpool rumour reported in the sun and mirror newspapers, not saying they're lying but thers been very little mention of this on both the marca or AS websites and you'd think if it were true they'd have mentioned it

LIVERPOOL are preparing one of the biggest transfer coups ever as they line up Real Madrid skipper Raul.

The Champions League all-time top-scorer has visited the club four times in recent months, and contact has been made with the 27-year-old over the possibility of a sensational move to England - after he indicated he is ready to leave Spain.

He visited Liverpool mainly to see his friend Fernando Morientes, but also has been to Anfield and even to the club's training ground to see the facilities.

The work of Anfield boss and fellow countryman Rafa Benitez has hugely impressed Raul, and he would relish the chance to team up with Morientes again after forming such a lethal partnership in Madrid. Raul is the king of Real Madrid, and there would be uproar in the Spanish capital if he were to leave the club.

But the striker, who is also his country's top scorer, has become disillusioned with life under Bernabeu president Florentino Perez.

Raul said: "After 11 years here I want what's best for the club. If at some time I have to

sacrifice myself in order for the team to progress, then I will do.

"If the club calls you up and says you have to go, then as a player you have to be prepared to look for a way out that benefits everyone.

"If I listen to the polls in some papers, it looks as though I should leave now. I still feel useful to the club and believe I haven't reached my peak, but I don't want to be in the way. All I want is for the club to be clear with me."

Perez and Raul are thought to hate each other after a dramatic bust-up two years ago when manager Vicente Del Bosque was sacked along with skipper Fernando Hierro on Madrid's 'night of the long knives' - hours after they won the Spanish title.

Raul was outspoken at thetime against Perez, and the two have become sworn enemies. Michael Owen -who has pledged to stay at the Bernabeu despite playing second fiddle to out-of-form Raul last season -has been told he will get far more of an opportunity next season, which raises further questions over the skipper's position. Privately, Raul has indicated that he has become disillusioned with life in the Spanish capital and is ready to consider a move abroad. Liverpool would jump at the chance to pair up Raul with Morientes. Raul is still only 27 despite winning three Champions League finals. But Liverpool would need a cut- price deal as the superstar is rated at around £25million.

West Ham fighting for signatures:

West Ham are being tipped with moves for Derby striker Grzegorz Rasiak and Newcastle's Lee Bowyer.

Rasiak joined Derby last summer after a move to Italian outfit Siena encountered problems, and made a huge impact in his first season at Pride Park.

He managed 17 goals in 38 games, firing The Rams into The Championship play-offs in the process.

However, their failure to secure promotion could now cost them the chance to hold on to the Polish international as West Ham are apparently keen to add him to their squad as they prepare for life in The Premiership.

Rasiak scored twice in Derby's win at West Ham back in January and clearly left a lasting impression on Hammers boss Alan Pardew.

Pardew has reportedly been handed a £20 million war-chest to keep his side in the top-flight and has earmarked some of that on the gangly striker.

"I know of West Ham's interest in me and I'd like the chance to play in The Premiership," Rasiak is reported as saying.

Meanwhile, Pardew is also entertaining the prospect of bringing Bowyer back to Upton Park for a second stint.

Newcastle - who have been tipped to enter the race for Chelsea's Scott Parker - are thought to be ready to let controversial midfielder move on after his infamous bust-up with Kieron Dyer last term.

The former Leeds man endured a less than successful loan spell with The Hammers two seasons ago when the East Londoners ultimately succumbed to relegation from The Premiership.

However, Pardew is now thought to be ready to offer Bowyer the chance to link up with cousin Mark Noble, and admits he is hopeful of attracting big names to Upton Park this summer.

"We've had to work extremely hard to keep our fans on board, some went away from us because they were disillusioned but they'll come back now and we'll have to re-ignite them," he told Sky Sports News.

"We re-ignited them by getting promoted and now we have to re-ignite them again by exciting them with who we bring in, and I hope to do that."

And more on the Essien topic:
In demand Lyon midfielder Michael Essien admits he is hopeful of securing a move to Chelsea, despite interest from Arsenal, Manchester United and Real Madrid.

The Ghanian international has emerged as one of Europe's hottest properties after a season at Stade Gerland in which he was named French Players' Player of the Year.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho has made no secret of his desire to bring in a midfielder over the summer, and Essien has now revealed he is hopeful an agreement can be reached with the Premiership champions after they made contact with his agent.

Lyon have always remained steadfast in their intention to retain Essien's services, although this admission from the 22-year-old leaves his future in French football in some doubt.

The impressive midfielder conceded that some of Europe's top clubs were vying for his signature, and insisted that Chelsea are in pole position as he enthused about the qualities of the Stamford Bridge outfit.

"My agent must meet the president of Lyon in the next few days then I will go back to Chelsea and speak to them and hopefully an agreement can be found," Essien told the Daily Star.

"Chelsea is my best contact and I know they are interested in signing me.

"That is great joy for me because they are one of the greatest clubs in Europe and I have always dreamed of playing in England.

"My agent told me that Chelsea's directors were trying to meet people from Lyon but for the moment there has been no date or time set.

"My agent told me he has had several conversations with Chelsea and they are prepared to offer me a five-year deal.

"It is true that Arsenal, Real Madrid and Manchester United have been asking about me. It will be difficult to move to Madrid because they already have their quota of non-European players.

"If Chelsea want me they really have to do everything in their power to make an agreement with Lyon."

And Villa chasing Distin:
Aston Villa supremo Doug Ellis admits that he has enquired about Manchester City stopper Sylvain Distin.

Villa boss David O'Leary has been granted substantial transfer funds in a bid to build a squad capable of challenging for European football and has identified the French defender as a key target.

The 27-year-old enjoyed an impressive season as Stuart Pearce nearly led City to Uefa Cup football, and Villa have reportedly tabled a £5.5 million bid for the Paris Saint Germain star.

After the player's agent revealed that Villa were interested, Ellis has now confirmed that, at a meeting of the Premier League bosses, he approached his Manchester City counterpart John Wardle regarding Distin.

"I've just been with the other 19 Premiership chairman and chief executives and it would be dishonest to say I didn't talk to Manchester City about Sylvain Distin," said Ellis.

It is believed that a bid of around £6.5 million could be enough to prise Distin from Eastlands.

We're apparently interested in signing Feyenoord's Dutch international striker Dirk Kuijt. He scored yesterday for Holland and I gotta say he does appear to be a pretty good player.

And from Akineye's, I've seen, covered either by me or somebody else, Berger, Jankulovski, Gerard, Van Der Vaart, Vogel and Yakubu.

Some of the others might have been too. Post new ones, not second, third and fourth versions of the same transfer. Jankulovski was reported once, discussed by me, then discussed later and now mentioned again. He only moved once.

Christian Abbiati is prepared to complete an exchange deal with Palermo goalkeeper Matteo Guardalben, bringing his Milan career to an end.

The Rossoneri shot-stopper has spent almost the entire campaign on the bench due to the fine form of Dida and it has been clear for some time that he will be moving on in the summer.

There was talk of a switch to Arsenal, Chelsea and especially Villarreal, as it was reported the Spaniards had offered a four-year contract worth just under £2m per season.

However, the latest from the Italian Press maintains that a deal with Palermo has been struck to exchange goalkeepers, so Guardalben will come to the San Siro as Dida’s understudy.

27-year-old Abbiati made his Serie A debut on January 17 1999, having been promoted from third choice to regular starter in the Scudetto-winning season due to Jens Lehmann’s poor form and a ban for Sebastiano Rossi.

Speculation at the weekend had suggested Liverpool have approached Real with regards to their talismanic captain.

Despite capturing the UEFA Champions League in his debut campaign in English football, Rafa Benitez is already looking at reinforcing his ranks.

With the future of Milan Baros shrouded in uncertainty, a striker remains a top priority - with Benitez reportedly considering rekindling the relationship shared by Fernando Morientes and Raul in Spain.

However, Raul - despite having not produced his best form this season and having been usurped by Michael Owen in the striking pecking order - remains a firm favourite with the Madrid faithful.

The sale of the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu's favourite son would be a risky move and Saachi insists that whilst the player remains under contract he will remain in the capital.

''Raul has a contract at Real Madrid and we have not received a proposition from them,'' Saachi told skysports.com.

Fuelling rumours of Raul's departure from his home-town club are suggestions that Real have reignited their pursuit of Internazionale's Adriano.

The prolific Brazilian has been strongly linked with a switch to The Premiership and Chelsea but reports from Italy have suggested a choice from Luis Figo, Walter Samuel, Guti, Michael Owen and Santiago Solari have been offered in part-exchange.

Inter coach Roberto Mancini is a firm admirer of Samuel and it would appear that if the two clubs are to concur on a deal then the Argentine hard man will be involved.

i pretty much knew the raul to liverpool move was nothing more than silly talk from the sun and mirror
also madrid are linked with a owen plus samuel exchange for adriano with inter milan

and i'm hearing van der sar is close to moving to manchester united

Man United get Van Der Sar:

Manchester United have signed Dutch international goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar from Fulham for an undisclosed fee.
The 34-year-old has agreed a two-year deal and will join the club on 1 July, providing he passes a medical.

United have been looking for a new goalkeeper after releasing Roy Carroll at the end of May.

Van der Sar, who has 95 international caps, moved to Fulham from Juventus for £5m in August 2001 and went on to make 153 appearances for the Cottagers.

He was linked with a move to United in January but agreed a contract extension with Fulham until summer 2006 instead.

The Dutchman is United's first new signing since the club's takeover by Malcolm Glazer and he is likely to join the squad for July's tour of the Far East.

He will become the latest in a long line of keepers to have been tried by manager Sir Alex Ferguson since the loss of Peter Schmeichel in 1999.

Mark Bosnich, Massimo Taibi, Raimond van der Gouw, Fabien Barthez and Carroll have all come and gone while Ricardo's contract expires this summer.

United's other keeper, American Tim Howard, agreed a new contract until 2009 in May.

Fulham are in talks with Norwich City over Robert Green after agreeing a fee with Man Utd for Van Der Saar.

Fulham are reportedly in talks with Norwich goalkeeper Robert Green as they look for a successor to Manchester United bound Edwin van der Sar.

The talented Dutchman is poised to ink a two-year deal at Old Trafford, leaving Fulham boss Chris Coleman on the look-out for an immediate replacement.

Green, who relegated Norwich were hoping to keep hold of, will be keen to resume his career in The Premiership as he looks to cement a place in Sven Goran Eriksson's England squad next season.

It would appear his wish could be granted at Craven Cottage - with Fulham seemingly now in pole position to land his signature - for a purported £3 million fee.

Green's agent, Andy Evans, has already confirmed that several Premiership clubs are trailing his client's services.

''There's strong interest from Premiership clubs, which is to be expected,'' said Evans.

''And, if it's in the best interests of all parties involved, then it's a possibility Robert may be leaving this summer.''

Oh well. I've said before that I wouldn't be too bothered if Green goes, because Ward and Gallacher are good enough back ups, and the money could come in handy. If Francis and Huckerby go then that's a problem, and if Ashton goes then it's a disaster.

United are believed to have made their interest known to Zaragoza and are ready to rival Valencia for his signature.

Valencia have been in talks with Real Zaragoza for Villa for the last few days and are keen to bring him to La Mestalla.

Real Zaragoza are resigned to losing Villa due to their financial problems, but they are insistent that he will not be sold on the cheap.

Villa's release clause stands at €12 million and although Valencia are only offering €9 million Zaragoza are determined to get every penny for the striker.

Villa is regarded as one of the best young strikers in Spain and he was strongly linked with a move to Liverpool last January before they signed Fernando Morientes.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a productive season with Zaragoza last term netting 18 goals and breaking into the national team set-up.

His performances appear to have caught the eye of United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and he is hoping to lure him to Old Trafford.

News of United's interest in Villa comes as something of a surprise as they have an abundance of attacking talent already at Old Trafford with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Alan Smith and Louis Saha all battling it out for places in the side.

However, it appears that Valencia are firm favourites to clinch Villa's signature with the player thought to be keen on staying in Spain at this stage of his career.

Villa's agent Jose Luis Tamargo has confirmed United's interest and admitted Villa is ready to snub a lucrative contract on offer from United to stay in Spain.

"The player is ready to accept less money to stay in La Liga," said Tamargo.

They would need a strong powerful and yes skillfull striker to play alone up front then, which they luckily do not have.

Doesn't look like they are going to land Adriano either does it.
They should keep Forsell in my opinion, I rate him higher than Drogba and equally as good as Eidur.

From www.soccernet.com:

Conceicao to sign for Panathinaikos

Brazilian midfielder Flavio Conceicao is expected in Athens on Tuesday to complete his move from Turkish club Galatasaray to Panathinaikos.

A spokesman for Panathinaikos said the deal should be finalised in the next couple of days.

The 31-year-old, who has 47 caps for Brazil and won the Champions League with Real Madrid in 2002, is due to sign a three-year deal worth €1.5 million ($1.85 million) a year. The transfer fee is €500,000.

His arrival at Panathinaikos is likely to hasten the departure of Greek international Angelos Basinas who has been linked with a move to English Premier League side Manchester City.

Panathinaikos coach Alberto Malesani has signed a two-year extension to his contract which will keep him with the club until 2007.
Another guy who Real incredibly release after failing to win the Champions League in 2002-03.

When Real released him he was only 29. He has 47 caps for Brazil, a team with such strong midfield competition. He was a defensive midfielder. And he had attacking flair.

Was with Galatasaray last season when Real Madrid loaned him there, but now he isn't returning anymore.
