So who would Muss / Barry / NY like to see in the Milan sqaud after the summer break? If you were the next manger with a £50 million budget who would you buy, replace, sell or keep?
Be interesting to know.
My team would be if i was manager this summer would be something where I would pick up only 1 person out of Robinho or cassano from Madrid or Diego from Werder Bremen For about 8 mil.(most likely cassano because its cheaper), Maybe try and steal grosso 9 mil. from inter but if not him i still like Roberto Carlos 4 mil., Sell seedorf, Oliveira on loan, Maybe try to pick up Cisse 11 mil From Marselle(ill give him a try) Now I'm left with looking for a CB maybe Ayala 8.4 mil. from Valencia because of the problems there but who knows. Dida is a ?, but we got Storari as back up, who i like. Dont know much about the money situation just guessing.:D
I've done a few of these recently when asked by friends but as of now I will only issue this:
If we don't qualify for next season's Champions League, we can't get half the players we want.
That aside, I certainly would be utterly disgusted if we moved for Roberto Carlos, Cisse or Ayala (only because of age in the latter's case). Ayala also had his time at Milan years ago and simply shouldn't return.

I guess im more of a fan of those players, rather then improving the squad.
Isn't Ayala already to be transferred to Vilareal in the summer?
Anyway, I'd go for a decent striker(I fear Huntelaar as we are after Afonso Alves) and perhaps a younger defender.

Yep, Ayala is on his way to Villarreal, and Roberto Carlos' transfer to Fenerbahce is all over the Turkish media.
Milan 2-1 up at half vs Empoli, Ronaldo, Gilardino both scorers
3-1 for the win. ronaldo-gilardino is a good combination, whoever thought of using r.oliveira, the guy is a nut job at scoring, he blows.

When Milan sold Shev I personally think they panic buyed into Oliveira.
They should of just sat cool, until the end of the season with the 30mill.
even abameyang is better than oliveira.

Yep, don't like Van Buytens head at all. Stupid forehead, silly greasy 'flock of seaguls' haircut, what a slice.
Van Buyton will always be a legend in my eyes, stayed with us for a brief time, left a good impression and starred in one of City's greatest matches.

He's actually ambidextrous.

Yeah, i know, but i assumed he was a lefty.
Maldini started out as a right footer, but was trained to be very good with his left. plus years of professional games at left back at his prime, he developed to be ambidextrous.
That is why you can not rule Milan out. They just have that Champions League pedigree.

I'm still bitter too. But we get a chance to rewrite our mistakes. I would love Milan in the final (providing we get there), as I won't be confident playing Man Utd so many times a season.

Seedorf is playing brilliantly.
It looks like we might be able to get some revenge for them knocking us out a few seasons ago. I would of been confident of playing them before this match but they are looking good now.
And because it's 2-0 to Milan.
Whooosh!
Bayern had the measure of us and Hitzfeld will see to it that they do again. If they score, we'll crumble. If they bring Pizarro on, we're fucked.
How on earth does Inzaghi get so many goals?

Nah just joking, it should be a good match.
one thing i hate the most is that ronaldo cant play in the champions league for milan. I mean they bought him they should be able to. I know he played for madrid in the champs. league but come on.
I'm happy to the point of qualification but I see massive signs we're going to capitulate against Manchester United and here is why:
-How many counter-attacking chances do we want to screw up? No we didn't need to score them and some would suggest if it had been a case of needing to score we'd have done more but we shouldn't be so wasteful and should get in as much practice as possible.
-The pace of United (see yesterday's raping of Roma) will cause us problems. Obafemi Martins used to scare the bejesus out of our defence with his pace and United will be no different.
-It's going to be an all-English final. Three Spanish teams in the semi-finals in 2000, an all-Spanish final. Three Italian teams in the semi-finals in 2003, an all-Italian final. Of course it can go wrong but I just can't see that being the case.

Man U is a strong team. It will be almost impossible to beat them without the support of...Ronaldo.
Their pace is a HUGE problem, and that C.Ronaldo, he will dive so many times in our box, we'll suffer from that. Italian defense is very rough, I can see him either get sent off for diving too much, or get a key penalty which kills us.
Also, about that C. Ronaldo, I can see Jankulovski get burned trying to defend against him.
Man U has no aerial power, thankfully, so hopefully Janku and Kaladze can just keep C.R out of the box and not get a shot, and we should be safe somewhat.

That's not totally true, we have Saha who is great in the air and Smith is coming back who is a danger in the air and from corners there aren't many better players at attacking the ball than Vidic.

I'm not sure if he will be fit I was just using him as an example. I think he is scheduled to be out for a month which would mean him coming back at the end of April but he is the sort of player who would want to be back as soon as possible so it could be shorter.

OT I believe. So really United need a lead of 2 goals to feel confident going to the San Siro.
Who knew Seedorf could perform in later stages of the season? ;)
Bayern left huge gaps when Van Buyten started going up front, could have been 3-0 or 4-0.
Kaka: Just Two Games Away From The Big One
The Brazilian star was glad to prove all those people, who were pessimistic about Milan's chances of going through, wrong as the Rossoneri beat Bayern Munich 2-0 at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening to qualify for the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Good Result
A smiling Kaka said his side's great feat which allowed Milan to reach the last four of the Champions League where they will be facing Manchester United.
"It was more difficult before going on the pitch, because there were many being pessimistic about Milan's result," he said.
"However, on the pitch everything changed and we managed to transform this pessimism in great football. Milan's season has changed a lot.
"Now let's think about Manchester, not at the 7-1 with which they defeated Roma. Against them we shall need another feat to reach the final."
Hard Work
"On Tuesday, I said that a lot of hard work was exactly what we would need and that’s just the way it went," he continued.
"Now, we are just two games away from another big push. I tried to score, but the important thing is that Milan won. I am happy with my game.
"I was able to set up Seedorf and I created some dangerous situations for the opponents. Istanbul taught us something.
"We didn’t let up after the 2-0 from the first half. Even I tried to help in defence and give an extra hand to my team-mates. The draw from the San Siro gave us an important push."
Cristiano Ronaldo Match-Up
"It will be Manchester United-Milan," he insisted, when asked about the match-up with the Portuguese winger, who has been labeled the best in the world on current form.
"I would like to get to the final. They are very strong. It will be a difficult game for both sides. We can do it."
Milan will be back in action in Serie A on Sunday as they travel to Messina to consolidate their fourth place in the standings.

I bolded those paragraphs especially for you, Mussolini :D
Where the flip was the great football? A good goal from Seedorf, an offside one from Inzaghi and about six good counter-attacking moves wasted. Our season hasn't changed either, we're still looking at the distinct possibility of missing out on the CL altogether next season. We haven't secured fourth yet and we have to win the competition to be certain of our place if we can't overhaul Palermo AND keep clear of Empoli and Fiorentina.

So now we know for a fact we learnt fuck all in La Coruna then? Really professional. And yes, we did let up after 2-0. Bayern were all over us and had they managed to score the writing would have been on the wall for us.
Ricardo Oliveira's Milan career looks finished. He wasn't introduced yesterday when I truly feel Gilardino would have been if he'd been on the bench.
To be fair, Milan have had an easy route to the semis imo.

If Milan can keep the deficit low at Old Trafford they may be able to steal something at the San Siro... however I don't see it happening.
It is extremely unlikely for Milan, a team in re-building mode, to defeat this Manchester United team right now. Without a doubt, this year's Man U has put up the strongest performance ever since their famous treble. However, given the experience Milan has in the ECL, and the return of Nesta, we can be sure that the tragedy of Roma will not happen to us.
I hope we can win this match-up, I believe Milan has a chance, although a small one.
To be fair, Milan have had an easy route to the semis imo.
To be honest, I think so too. Bayern Munich is really the only real challenge we've had. Although many regard this as a great success, it is not that great of an upset beating Munich. The draw in San Siro is where the upset really lies, which made a win in Anfield seem slim. However, the score 4-2 was not that big of surprise.
My reasoning is that Munich lost Ballack, who was the core player of Munich. Milan similarly had lost Shevchenko, but since Milan was stronger than Munich anyways before both teams lost a key player, their relative strength has not changed much.

Ronaldo doesn't dive that much anymore. He has never got a ed card for diving and the last time he got a yellow was when the ref got the decision wrong.
Excellent result today. Yes it was against the bottom club but we were away from home and scored five which we desperately needed (and two from Gilardino!)
Now some news and to be rather honest I don't care what bad things people have to say about this, I'm happy with it and despite the source being crap, it isn't the first time I've heard such a thing since November.
Disgraced former Juventus sports director Luciano Moggi is set to join AC Milan's technical team.
Quotidiano Nazionale says today that Moggi, the symbol of last year's Calciopoli scandal, will join Milan as a transfer market advisor.
Moggi cannot work in an official capacity for Milan due to his lengthy ban from all football matters, but it's reported that he will begin his work for the Rossoneri within the coming weeks.
Despite his role in the Calciopoli scandal, Moggi is still regarded as the best transfer market operator in the game.

His first season with Milan was not bad (well not in Europe, as he didn't score).
Fucking shambolic. Dida and Gilardino should both be shot. I blame Dida for all three United goals and it was blatantly obvious that neither Seedorf or Kaka trust Gilardino enough to pass him the ball now that they've played with a real striker (Ronaldo) in Serie A.
If Maldini and Gattuso aren't fit enough to play we're in the same sort of trouble we were in during the second half.
Totally agree with you there Mussolini. I thought the first half you guys looked good, then when Maldini didn't start the second half things went down hill. More so when Gattuso went off.

It really is quite horrible what has become of Gilardino. He was like a poor man's Heskey tonight.
I think you are being well harsh on Dida. 1st one was shit marking and a mistake from the Kepeer, the Keeper improved but your marking from Set Pieces did not. 2nd was just a one on one that he was unlucky more than anything with and the 3rd was just Rooney's quick thinkning that caught him out.
When Gattusso came off it was pretty much what you expect. Carrick and Scholes saw far more of the ball and began to dictate the play.
Kaka is immense but he was just left to his own devices in the second half and had very little support and so was knackered.
All in all if you had offered 3-2 before the game I think most realistic Milan fans would have taken it.
Milan 1-0 is hardly a bizzare scoreline now is it ?

I actually agree with Rafa on this - Milan should be pretty happy with that result.
Did anyone get the impression Gattuso was just kind of fat and decided to collapse and demand he be stretchered off? He didn't really look in any pain, just like he couldn't be arsed.
I realize he's a little terrier and a never-say-die player before you call come on, and I do like him, but you have to admit in tonight's particular instance it did seem that way.
Given that they were 2-1 up, and 2-2 with 2 minutes to go, I don't think they should be "happy with the result".
Yeah fair enough before the game they would have, but if it were the other way round I'd be seriously pissed.
Milan (Kaka) were great from the equaliser, and Dida made a couple of decent saves to keep it at 2-1 and 2-2. Like Rafa said, don't be too harsh on him.
1-0 isn't an unrealistic scoreline at San Siro, it depends what tonight's scoreline does to the Milan players' confidence.
Good game overall, respect to the Milan players for making it a decent game, where some Italian teams in the past have tried to bore their opposition into submission.

We'll know who is playing next week when seeing the starting line-up for our next league match. Ronaldo's partner will be benched unless Ricardo Oliveira starts in which case Ancelotti is considering a Gila-Inzaghi partnership for Wednesday. On the injury-front, Gattuso will almost certainly be fit but Maldini looks 50-50. A question for those who like us and watch us closely:
Were you, like me, baffled by the decision to replace Maldini with Bonera instead of Kaladze (who played alongside Nesta for a large part of last season)?
Typical Seedorf, one decisive ball and he disappears. Did fit right in with the rest in the 2nd half though, Kaka( bad 2nd half, but 2 great moments in the first half) and Pirlo tried to go solo and got down soon as they lost it. Gilardino was never available to pass to, and both Kaka and Seedorf didn't bother.
Not as bad as C Ronaldo though, he'd constantly run and lose the ball. He's more effective than last year and kudos, but he still could be way more effective, like say Kaka. And what's up with the slopes behind the back line where Nesta and Ronaldo crashed? Very unprofessional not too mention dangerous.

 Dutch architecture.
A few grounds are like this in Ingerlund some are worse. Grounds like Pompey have their fans right on top of the pitch and often players fall into the crowd. Some grounds have hard running track surfaces around the edge too.

I think Milan were unlucky to lose. A draw would've been fair. I think they controlled the pace of the game for most parts, but when they Man Utd got the ball, they used it quite effectively, especially in the scond half, but that's because Maldini went off. I think that made a difference.
Were you, like me, baffled by the decision to replace Maldini with Bonera instead of Kaladze (who played alongside Nesta for a large part of last season)?
I was, I dont know what milan sees in him. Bonera doesnt win 50/50s. and hes slow.
I didnt like the defensive shell they where playing in the 2nd half, it was to far back, there d-line was like on there 18 all half. The only reason why i think they would do that is to avoid man united speed and play zone D.
lol you also hear a lot that milan is the bes at killing games off with a slim lead yet lately they have been giving away bad and late goals. I blame Dida.
Why did they bring on the Almighty Bonera especially at this stage of the competition? He can't even defend AEK's forwards he surely will have a harder time with United's forwards.
Dida may be blamed but if it wasn't for him it could have been even worse, how many chances did Fletcher have and he managed to save them?
Anyway, Kaka was brilliant, one man humiliating that defense! Gotta love both goals. And right after his second he was after a third with a long range shot, he owned the first half. Second half was down to United's persistence and they got rewarded. Gattuso leaving was a downfall but you have to admit the third goal was down to Rooney's brilliance. It was a great match and anything can still happen.
I take the point about Dida making two or three excellent saves but after the first goal I simply stood there saying "Marco Storari" to myself. In fairness, Storari may not have been able to pull off the saves Dida did but it really does get me wondering.
Joel, it is possible that Kaladze has some sort of knock but from what I know he's fit enough to play. Bonera is is accident-prone and gives me great concern.

Since no one took the bait on my Dida comment for the third goal I think it is only fair to now point out that he was practically equidistant from his near post to the left corner flag.

Since no one took the bait on my Dida comment for the third goal I think it is only fair to now point out that he was practically equidistant from his near post to the left corner flag.
Wrong I'm affraid, Rooney caught him out. If you watch the replay again there is only one angle on sky where you just catch Rooney check the position of Dida before he moves into position to receive the pass.
The main angle replay shows him recieving the ball and shooting without looking (which is why people will say he hit it instinctively), this would have been considered more lucky, but in actual fact he checks the spot well before the pass is even on, then doesn't look to goal again until he has shot in order that he conceals the idea from Dida who is actually farily typically positioned to track the flight of a potential cross that doesn't end up coming in the end.
You allow your judgment to be clouded and are therefore quick to remove credit from rival teams' play or players.
WE beat a very good Italian team, just enjoy it instead of pointing out the culpability of the opponents.
Dida was wrongly positioned on the last goal for sure, rooney had his back to the goal with no intention to cross and was pealing away from the defender away from goal. If anything besides the shot, it would of been a pass back to giggs. Dida strikes again.
Any1 see seedorfs goal vs torino, nice.

Congratulations, I really hope you go and beat Liverpool now. There's not many superlatives I can give you as I'm so frustrated and appalled at how poorly United went about the game, but 3-0 is a brilliant victory whatever the circumstances, we've not even lost by 2 goals this season yet. Gattuso was outstanding, and Kaka was his usual brilliant self. Even Gilardino was on the scoresheet, just sums up the night really.

You're a gent to be sure.
Next season I'm being pessimistic like Sweey.
Congratulations Milan, the experience really showed today. Players like Ronaldo, Rooney, Carrick and a few more looked completely lost and had no clue what was going on. Hopefully you will go on to win it now as I couldn't stand Liverpool winning again.

It was a fantastic performance by Milan, which I didn't expect. Gattuso ran the show in midfield, and I thought Seedorf also played very well. Kaka showed his class again.
I don't think I could stand waves of 'WE WON IT 6 TIMES LOLOL", so hopefully Milan will crush Liverpool.

Milan played better, end of discussion.
I have to say Milan play some exceptional football. They are a joy to watch and no one can say they play the "Italian way" of defend a one goal lead.
Can you imagine the Inter fans if Milan won the Champions League. Just when they thought they got one over them :D

I was pretty confident you would beat United but not that comfortably.
Now I can sit back and enjoy the European Cup Final and enjoy my time in Athens without having to check over my shoulder every day.
Milan and Liverpool are two great Clubs that have once again proven that they have the European pedigree that just can not be bought.
Forza Milan and enjoy the Final.
I'm stunned by our performance tonight though I was panicking when United had a good spell just after the hour and we started sitting back. We ended up with four full-backs :erm:
Seedorf was magnificent tonight which makes up for some of his more dodgy performances, Kaka was perfection and even Dida managed to do his job decently. Still, I do not consider this enough.

Fantastic performance by Milan. Organised, discplined and tactically spot on. Gattusso was his usual dogged determind battling self and Kaká was just sublime. Special mentions to Seedorf whose nod back into Kaka's path showed good vision and the combo of Pirlo and Ambrosini who held the midfield together and dictated the tempo wonderfully. Take note Michael Carrick - Pirlo is the player you dream of being
Quite what Heinze was playing at in the build-up to the second goal is beyond belief but take nothing away from Milan they were superb.
But yeah, thanks. Now go one further please.

I was thinking, why does Mussolini think so low of Seedorf, he's amazing, guess I just caught him on a great day.
The Kaka-Ronaldo comparisons are pathetic, Kaka is a complete level above Cristiano. The guy's got everything. Amazing.
Still, I do not consider this enough

A completely masterful performance from Milan.
Gattuso is slowly becoming one of my favorite players, there should be more like him.
Seedorf & Gattuso what a force they were tonight, then add to that the creativity and finesse of Pirlo, and then finally the brilliance of Kaka. A quite magnificent midfield.

Yeah he a quality striker, but greedy. He's the kinda player who'd rather take a pop at goal than pass to a player in space. Which is great and bad all in one.

Why does Kaka take our penalties when Pirlo is on the field? Plus, Oddo used to take lots of free-kicks and penalties at Lazio and should at least share free-kick responsibilities with Seedorf and Pirlo.
Not only do we need to win but we must hope Livorno can come from behind to take something at Lazio. We need to finish third.
-----
The noises of late from Adriano Galliani are that we will keep our one non-EU place open for as long as possible in order to make a move for Shevchenko if Chelsea are willing to make offers for him. That is a step backwards and I'm not happy with it. He has been a magnificent striker over the years - we of all fans in the world would know that - but he left and we need to get over it.
Leonardo says we are definitely interested in both Pato and Ze Roberto but I think we'll know more in late June when rumours are in full swing.
Catania away this weekend though it will be played in Bologna. The FIGC will now allow fans to attend this and Catania's other "home" game of the season so they will have some support, as will we. Catania have struggled majorly since round 17. They were in the top six with a 7-5-5 record but have won only two of their last eighteen games and currently stand at 9-10-16. To that end, we should expect a win but they're looking slightly better in the last couple of weeks (a 1-0 win at Udinese and 2-1 defeat at Parma) so nothing can be taken for granted and the likes of Giuseppe Mascara and their top scorer Gionatha Spinesi have to be watched very carefully as both are capable of creating major problems.

I think kaka took the pk because of his form. Also remember in the world cup, Italy vs the Aussies when we had the pk. They had a camera on pirlo who kept on shaking his head like:no: and he looked scared shit to take the pk. Then he had a chat with totti and you know the rest, but I think pirlo is afraid to take pks, he would take freekicks because its less pressure, thats just wat i think. Im fine with oddo taking Pks.

thats what gourcuffs for.
Hasn't quite worked out this season though. Hopefully he'll will improve next season. Some of his performances have been excellent but a few have been poor.
Alessandro Nesta yesterday extended his contract with us to June 2011. and today Alessandro Costacurta will play the final match of his career when against Udinese. This is the 21-man squad:
GOALKEEPERS: Fiori, Kalac, Storari
DEFENDERS: Antonelli (31), Bonera, Bruscagin (37), Costacurta, Darmian (36), Favalli, Grimi, Serginho, Simic
MIDFIELDES: Brocchi, Gourcuff, Guerci (28), Di Gennaro (33)
STRIKERS: Borriello, Ricardo Oliveira, W.Aubameyang (35), Orlandi (46), Travaini (47)
I'd like to see Willy Aubameyang partnered with Ricardo Oliveira from the start. Borriello should never play for us and I hope he is sold in the summer.
Ancelotti has stated that he does not know whether he will pick Inzaghi or Gilardino for the final. I have to be honest, I'm not sure which is better to pick. Inzaghi appears to provide a much better threat and gets involved in play but as much as Gilardino did sweet fa against United in the second leg, his runs did (accidentally?) allow space for Kaka and Seedorf to run into and that helped.
tough but I say milan put Inzaghi in or the final.

Why is that Druggy playing? Didn't he get banned?
The ban was over about two months ago but yeah, he shouldn't have been selected in the squad let alone picked in the first eleven. On his return from suspension he demanded Ancelotti pick him, thereby proving what a sorry excuse for a top level footballer he really is. Costacurta has just scored the last goal of his career by converting a penalty. Currently 2-2......and now Udinese lead for the third time today: 3-2.

Love him or hate him there is no denying his talent. Rino Gattuso has a desire and determination that most managers would die for. He has the ability to keep the best players in the world silent for 90 minutes, very few players can do that. A true character and someone I greatly admire. I hope he has a great game on Wednesday night.
Team-mates and fans adore firebrand midfielder Gattuso even though he prides himself on not being a typical Italian footballer
Rivincita. Rivincita. Rivincita... The Italian word for revenge buzzes around Milanello. Scattered across the picturesque lawns of Milan's training camp are little bunches of journalists and television crews and each of them asks every player who passes by about rivincita. Again and again and again. Paolo Maldini leans back in his chair and calmly swats aside the irritating inquiry. Clarence Seedorf smiles sagely and maintains his cool. Kaka looks sweet and unruffled.
And then there is Gennaro Ivan Gattuso. Otherwise known as Ringhio - growler - or Pitbull, he is an emotional fireball who famously cannot sleep in anticipation of important matches and spontaneously spirals out of control afterwards, such as when he stripped off after winning the World Cup and had to be ordered to put on some kit to look decent for the presentation. Surely he will rise to the bait? Surely he will crack when provoked by the bitter memories of Istanbul?
Gattuso plays the revenge card surprisingly well. His blood is too hot to pretend he has no impulse to redress the Champions League balance that lurched so painfully away from Milan and towards Liverpool two years ago. But he is restrained enough to bide his time, not saying anything too silly or inflammatory before the two teams meet again.
As far as Gattuso is concerned, Steven Gerrard has done that sufficiently for the two teams already. The Liverpool captain's words (which were misreported) about Milan celebrating their 3-0 half-time lead in the 2005 Champions League final prematurely makes Ringhio seethe quietly. In his moral code, there is a fundamental difference between taking sporting disappointments and personal slights on the chin.
'The thing that upsets me most is the lies about what happened at half time,' he says. 'Anybody who knows me knows I understand football well enough to appreciate anything can happen in 45 minutes. Milan are a serious, experienced team. We would not celebrate a win at half-time. But maybe these stories help sell copies of autobiographies.'
So, what about revenge, then? 'It can't be revenge because that game will always be there, no matter how many finals I reach. The negative memory will never be erased. Six mad minutes. But we are lucky we have the chance to put that right, to play so soon against the same team. The thoughts and feelings of the last two years can stimulate us.'
Gattuso has never needed much in the way of stimulus. A son of Italy's deep south, hailing from Corigliano Calabro on the sole of the country's boot, he possesses the 'fire in the belly' natural to people from his region. Some northerners like to refer to Calabrians as terrone, a derogatory reference to farmers with scant education or culture. 'I am a terrone and very proud to be so,' Gattuso says.
It has made him the player he is: 'It was a bit strange, but in my dreams I always wanted to become a player who others saw and thought, "Bloody hell. Gattuso, he never stops running! Mamma Mia, look how that guy can really run. It's scary." Not that my opponents should be afraid of me, but they should know I will play with a lot of intensity.'
His tempestuousness is inherited from his father, Franco, who played fourth-division football and was well known in the neighbourhood. 'Mentally, my dad is a lot worse than me,' says Gattuso, smiling. 'His mind is always working, always trying to do something new. When he played he couldn't stand losing. He couldn't even lose at cards.' These traits are now being passed to the next generation, but Gattuso's wife, Monica, often has to remind him when he is playing with their child that Gabriela is a little girl and not a boy. 'I like to muck around like a man,' he says. 'I never want to stop. I think it is good for kids to make a racket. That's what I did in my childhood.'
Much of that time was spent on the beach. Every afternoon he would play football with his friends on sand pitches with goals made of containers used by fishermen. He describes it as 'football of the soul' and recalls how he had to fight even then to be accepted. 'The others said, "Eh, you are only playing because you are the son of Franco Gattuso." To be his son, in terms of football, made life complicated. I felt like the door was closed before it was opened.'
Not that his enthusiasm was remotely dimmed. 'I was always soaked in sand, desperate to help my team to win. What does Wembley have compared to the Sunday Cup, 9.30am kick-off on the beach and 1,000 lire the prize?'
Gattuso had barely played on a grass pitch before he joined Perugia at the age of 12. He bade farewell to his tearful mother and promised his friends he would not return until he had made it.
Like Gerrard, Gattuso has written a book and in it he outlines the anatomical distinctions of a champion. These include the look of a mastiff, a fisherman's hands, and a marathon runner's feet - sufficient to scurry from Corigliano to Milan and back again. 'To get to the top of the world I have had to give all my heart, my soul, my lungs. They are the three fundamental ingredients not only in football, but also in life,' he says.
His force of character is conspicuous in a Milan team full of suave performers. His team-mates adore him because he plays like a maniac. Captain Maldini thinks the way Gattuso transmits energy to the rest of the squad is invaluable and underpins their ability to press in games.
His snapping presence was impossible to ignore during Milan's impressive semi-final triumph over Manchester United. The commentary team on English television was obviously impressed, although their choice of adjective to describe him was enough to make you fiddle with the control and wonder if the signal had gremlins. 'So elegant,' chimed the commentator admiringly. Elegant? Did we hear that correctly?
By his own admission, Gattuso is a far cry from the Italian footballing stereotype. 'I am not a typical Italian footballer. They say that my way of playing is more British, closer to the culture of Scotland and England. I had a coach when I was quite young, Walter Smith, who took me to Scotland and he made quite an impression on me. People there thought I'd be the kind of Italian player who could take people on and run past them. But I was a surprise for everyone.'
He credits his experience at Rangers as paramount to his development, recalling how 'it was in Glasgow that the fighter Gattuso was born'. He returned to Italy when Smith was replaced by Dick Advocaat and the new coach wanted him to play in defence. After an impressive season with Salernitana, where he earned his favourite nickname of Pitbull, Serie A's establishment clubs were on his trail. In 1999 Milan got themselves a deal for £8million.
The southerner has become a symbol of the iconic club of the north. He has won everybody over with his indefatigable spirit. As coach Carlo Ancelotti points out: 'He is one of the most loved players because he demonstrates what can be achieved with passion and desire. Kaka, for example, is a natural talent, but Gattuso shows how with charisma and hard work you can realise your dreams. It is not possible to overestimate what he does for us. On a scale from one to 10 his importance to our club is definitely a 10.'
The boss also notes that if Gattuso were a dish he would be impepata di cozze, which is hearty, spicy and full of mussels.
Milan's No 8 has a healthy appetite, and is reluctant to lean too far towards the athlete's carefully controlled diet. Good boys like Pippo Inzaghi, who conscientiously eat plain pasta and thin slices of meat, amaze him. 'He is perfect in his preparation, but I feel sick just to watch him eating while every day I'm dreaming of my wife's tiramisu,' Gattuso says.
He is, and will always be, his own man, living at his own wholehearted pace. Does he ever switch off? 'I've tried to be calm, to be without adrenalin. But for me adrenalin is important. The doctor tells me to calm down, but I can't do it. I can't be calm. I like to make a racket. I like to live every moment intensely.'
One way or another, Wednesday night promises to be another highly charged occasion. Gattuso is proud of the way Milan have battled back from the blow of Istanbul and reckons not many teams would have summoned the willpower to clamber back up from the depths of Champions League heartbreak. There is a precedent, in the Bayern Munich side who lost so theatrically to Manchester United in 1999, and roused themselves to win the trophy in 2001.
Gattuso might not crave revenge as such, but he, like all the Milan players, would find catharsis if they could finish the job against Liverpool.
And what if it came down to penalties again. Would the Pitbull take one? He laughs and looks down at those marathon runner's feet. 'God gave me two feet, but not to take penalties with.'

im confused who i should vouch my support to ? The dirty scousers or the team that humiliated us out?
The team who beat you obviously, then there's less shame in going out to the winners and you get to see the Scousers go out.
No question for me anyway, can't stand Liverpool and I'm fairly fond of Milan.
If PSV or Feyenoord were to be one of the finalist I'd support them all the way through. If anything national glory above any foreign team beating them, despite having to listen to the delusional babbling afterwards.
I'm leaning towards Milan at the moment because of their glorious display against United and of course Seedorf, but if Liverpool happens to win I'd be happy too because from a naturals point of view it's a beautiful club.
I wonder if Gattuso will touch the trophy again as they enter the pitch.
He was stupid to the first time round.
As for Gerrard's comments about Meeeeeelan celebrating at half time...WOULDN'T YOU? I mean Liverpool were played off the park by possibly the best first half performance I've seen for a long time. I still get hard watching that inch perfect pass from Kaka.
For the sake of football, for the sake of the Champions League, please don't let those bindippers win.

It's ok for you because Ajax have more European Cups then the both of them put together. But for a Barça fan to see Madrid win yet another, well lets just say I'd rather stick a pineapple up my bum.
I'll be supporting football tonight.
I'm slightly leaning towards Milan because I don't know any supporters.

There are reasons to love Benitez...but not because of football his team plays
Published: 22 May 2007
There are quite a number of reasons to admire, even love Rafa Benitez. In the snakepit occupied by so many overstated and under-principled football managers, in all the hot and often stagnant air and the cold spirit, he is mostly a model of decorum and, even more importantly, decency.
His status in Merseyside football lore is already for the ages. However, if it should happen that he delivers a second Champions League triumph for Liverpool over Milan, in Athens tomorrow night, delight in this quarter, if we are honest, will not be without a few complications.
This will have nothing do with Rafa the man or the motivator. When his team won in such extraordinary, even surreal circumstances in Istanbul two years ago he handled the glory with beguiling modesty.
Unlike that of the most conspicuous victim of his almost eerie ability to neutralise the strength of the most powerful of opposition, Jose Mourinho, Benitez's reaction to the greatest moment of his career included no attempt to deflect attention from the heroics of his players.
In the post-match dawn he stood away from the microphones and the television cameras, a small, benign smile lighting up his broadly open features as the likes of Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Xabi Alonso fondled the gold winning medals dangling around their chests.
The cynical might say that it was reality as much as good character which dictated such exemplary behaviour, Liverpool's victory flowing not from a tactical masterplan but an outpouring of physical and emotional strength from the players which could not have been created by even the most brilliant work on the dressing-room blackboard.
However, Benitez wouldn't have been the first coach to cheerfully ride on the fighting instincts of players breaking out of a limited gameplan.
No, the problem has nothing to do with any aspect of Rafa's nature. The trouble is his football. It is not the kind which, beyond admiration for superbly genuine competitive honesty, a not exactly ubiquitous quality in the upper reaches of the game, could possibly lift the soul of a neutral.
If Jorge Valdano's crude assessment that Liverpool's semi-final triumph over Chelsea represented not the beautiful game but "shit on a stick" was excessive, no one could deny that the former football director of Real Madrid had touched on an element of truth. Excrement it wasn't, but nor was it the work of Van Gogh or Cezanne.
The unavoidable fact about Benitez - and one that makes matchwood of one recent assertion that if he delivers a second European Cup in three years, from a standing start in the wake of Gérard Houllier's moribund reign, he is an immediate contender, or better, for the status of greatest manager in the history of British football - is that he puts such a low priority on the ability of outstanding individuals to shape a game.
This was the thrust of Valdano's criticism and, whatever you think of his way with words, there is no question he is a witness of some authority. Few former players on earth are better acquainted with the value of a player free to follow, more than any word from the touchline, his own gut instincts. Valdano scored one of the goals that helped deliver the 1986 World Cup to Argentina. He was also permitted a close-up view of Diego Maradona's last touch in his campaign of bewildering force and virtuosity. It was the lacerating pass which finally demolished West Germany's elaborate plan to have Lothar Matthäus mark Maradona out of the game.
Such individual inventiveness, Valdano argues, is not a key part of the game of Benitez, or Mourinho, and the reason for this, he further suggests, is because neither coach reached the upper levels of the game as players. It is a shaky theory when you consider that Arsène Wenger, the author of some of the most beautiful football ever seen in these islands, also failed to get beyond the foothills as a player.
Yet, still, Valdano hits a nerve in any ultimate assessment of Benitez the coach who has produced such brilliant results in the Spanish League and the knock-out tournaments of England and Europe. In that creatively wretched semi-final against Chelsea at Anfield, Benitez chose to leave out Alonso, a player of infinite ambition and lovely touch in his passing when he first arrived at Anfield.
That surely was a statement that the Liverpool effort would be most vitally concerned with stifling Chelsea. That it worked, via the shoot-out, finally brought unconditional joy to Anfield but there were many doubts expressed on the way to the right result.
At Valencia, Benitez also had a habit of benching one of the local heroes, the beautifully talented Argentine Pablo Aimar. Valencia enjoyed fiestas when two league titles were snatched from the jaws of Real Madrid and Barcelona, but the manner of the triumphs lacked a certain flamenco snap.
If the right result comes in Athens, the odds are that the fine points of Liverpool's performance will be relegated to the margins of celebration - and Benitez will have encouraged still more sweeping assessment of his place in the game. No doubt he will again react to the acclaim with his trademark humility, and that will be still another reason for applause.
There should, though, be no loose talk of the greatest achievement ever by a British club in Europe. That is a place in history which, for all the achievements of Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan, Brian Clough, Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson, still belongs to Jock Stein.
When the Celtic manager took his team to Lisbon to break down the "bolted door" of Helenio Herrera's Internazionale in 1967, he declared that his deepest ambition was a victory for football, something to thrill every neutral. He felt he owed that much to the game and he produced his extraordinary gift with 11 players bred in a 20-mile radius of Glasgow.
It would not be Rafa Benitez's style to make such a promise. There are a number of reasons for this. Some of them are good. One of them is bad. It is the fact that nothing in his football would give any weight to such an undertaking.
At critical moments, Stein reached for the stars; Benitez from time to time benches his most creative players. Don't mention it on Merseyside, but, putting aside all the moral questions about whether they should even have been competing in the Champions League this season, a win for the Milan of Kaka and Maldini and Seedorf will also be one for football - as it should be played. Hand on heart, you can say a lot in favour of Rafa - but of his football, not that, not yet.
It's very rare I'd do this but I hope AC Milan come out victors tonight, for whoever won between Manchester United and AC Milan deserve it, I feel it was a shame that wasn't the final.

Milan...MILAN...
Great victory, but terrible football.
A wins a win.
Congrats Milan
Well done Milan!
Not at your best tonight and probably Liverpool were playing better, but as they say; turn about is fair play.
The Istanbul nightmares can go to rest now.
Edit: You always find a way to piss off Inter :D

Well done to the Milan club! Who are the Milan fans in here? I send you my full congrats...
I've kept these thoughts to myself all season and this was the only way I was going to let them out:
We have proved we can win the Champions League without Andrei Shevchenko, the man who dumped us without a care in the world to join a team he believed would lead him to his next Champions League trophy - as well as more domestic success. It was important to me that we got further than him in the Champions League but to also win it makes the feeling so, so much better. He made a mistake and he deserves to regret it. As fans, we loved him the way we loved Marco Van Basten, a man who didn't leave us but Shevchenko's love for us wasn't strong enough. I don't want him back and I won't be happy if the club decide to purchase him in the summer. He could probably still do a job for us but we should move forward.
Inter won the Scudetto but they've still been outdone. How shit must they be feeling? Hopefully very.
It doesn't matter how we played. It doesn't matter who did what. Nothing matters. We won and that is all that counts. Thank you to every single person within the club who has contributed to our success and though I'm sure very few of you remember my comments about Kaka during last summer, he has proved me very much wrong this season and I hope we don't lose him.
I've been critical of Ancelotti for a long time but it is he who managed to turn this troubled squad into a team who managed to win tonight and I can't thank him enough for that. I believe he will decide to leave after this weekend's game.
There were three teams from one country in the semi-finals alongside us and it pleases me that we made it through, preventing what looked like a certain English success. I'd have felt the same regardless of which country the teams were from. To be left alone, flying the flag for your country alongside three competitors all striving for the success of one other country and to come through it is a wonderful feeling.
We (Italy) won the World Cup and now we (AC Milan) have won the Champions League. These are much-needed successes for Italian football which is struggling at the moment.
I am very, very happy with the team and would like to thank all of the players for what they have achieved.

All year long you have been so pessimistic about your precious Milan.
According to you, they should have been eliminated during the second round, and now you post this.

I thought Liverpool played quite well throughout, but Milans class shone through.Good goal by kuyt; shame he couldn't have scored it a few minutes earlier to make a real game out of the last few minutes.
Congrats; and the amount of times I laughed at the scousers.....aaah, thank you Inzaghi!

to be honest, I didn't think we'd win since that 2-2 tie at home with Bayern, then after the 2-0 with Bayern, it rekindled my hope.
I must admit we have been very lucky in this campaign, facing teams like celtic, Bayern and Man U. No offense to them, they are great team with a notable exception of Celtic, but Milan has been known for Bayern killer and Man U Killer. The final against Liverpool has been pretty lucky as well, we had Inzaghi score 2 for 2, and Liverpool with no finisher.
Once again, I love how AC Milan, despite having a shittier team this year and without shevchenko, and missed nesta for most of the season, still manage to outdo Inter. Moratti must be very pissed off right now.
For next season, this is what I'd do:
get rid of oliveira - no shit
get shevchenko for 1800million + kaladze
maybe get another striker
get Zapata
get Cannavaro
get Alex if we can
get Emerson
!!!!!!get MUNTARI!!!!!!!!!
get Zambrotta
recall Abbiati
but even then, we still have a lot of money left, what do you think we should do?
I really want Tevez, but he has Liverpool written all over his face.
Realistic Roster for next season (worst possible):
Dida
Oddo
Jankuslovski
Nesta
Bonera/Zapata
Pirlo
Gattuso
Seedorf
Kaka
Shevchenko
Ronaldo
Realistic B:
Dida
Oddo
Zambrotta
Cannavaro
Nesta
Same midfield
Shevchenko
Ronaldo
Dream A:
Buffon
Oddo
Nesta
Alex
Zambrotta
Same midfield with more depth like
Muntari
Ronaldo
Eto'o
Fuck you.

Becks Reveals Milan Temptation
David Beckham has revealed that he came close to accepting a contract offer from Milan, but opted to put his family first and head to LA Galaxy.
Beckham agreed a deal with LA Galaxy earlier in the year, following his failure to find a new accord with Real Madrid.
At the time reports suggested Beckham had turned down a host of offers to head to America and he has now confirmed European champions Milan attempted to take him to Serie A.
"It wasn't easy saying no to Milan, one of the world's strongest sides," Beckham told Gazzetta dello Sport. "The team, the coach, the president, the city. Then also Ronie (Ronaldo) went there.
"The choice was hard. I was honoured, pleased and tempted, but I had to think of my family and I wanted a different challenge.
"I'd have liked to play in Serie A. Italy is a country I like because it has everything: big football, big players the best food, wine, fashion..."
Beckham has been in fine form since confirming his departure from Madrid and was recalled to the England squad by Steve McClaren on Saturday.

Despite the supreme content of it (there's no sarcasm there), it falls more into the spam category than Milan discussion so in the interests of fairness to all, it was the correct thing to do. Nothing personal.
There's plenty of others threads people create to slag us off for things we haven't done ;).
From now until I'm no longer allowed/able to moderate, the Milan thread will be devoid of spam. Anyone repeatedly posting their message after it has been soft deleted will be booked and then banned if they insist on littering the thread with spam. That's ample warning is it not? This thread is for Milan discussion and not random crybaby rubbish.
Who could he be talking about!?
Answers on a postcard, children ;)
Ibrahimovic!? You'd be better playing Abramovich upfront!

Fair enough, but could you actually take that info and put it as an option on the vote?

I'm sure someone else will. My viewpoint is this: everyone is allowed to slag off Italians and Milan when they feel like it so each time they do, I should be able to do it back in relation to them without being penalised for it as they never get penalised for what they do and if I try to, it results in complaints about how I abuse my power.
Regarding today's game at Reggina: I can't see the home side failing to win meaning they will rightfully avoid relegation. They took the lead after eight minutes and regardless of how Wednesday had gone, we really wouldn't have been trying too hard today which is in evidence when looking at the starting eleven: Kalac, Simic, Bonera, Kaladze, Favalli, Cafù, Brocchi, Pirlo, Serginho, Ronaldo, Borriello. Cafu in central midfield

Whats with the hate, especially in regards to Milan fans. Big deal, they don't travel in large numbers. Whoop-de-fucking-do. Thats part of the custom and culture. It is a known fact the Spanish don't have large away support nor do the Italians. It is just their way. What gets to me is the scousers and other bell ends on the radio phone in's bitching about how a stadium of 50,000 capacity is not big enough for a final. Only a small number of teams across the globe (In Britian you are taking about only United and Liverpool who actually may get there are going to take large amounts) but because of them UEFA should move next years final. Milan have a good support but perhaps because they don't go around looting, robbing fellow fans and generally acting cunts then they are deemed as a shit support.
Really Rafa, quit this pathetic act and stop bitching about the likes of Sweey, etc. No one gives a shit.
Back on topic. I firmly believe Milan will do well next year and strengthen their squad. Although to do so they need a good few signings. It will be interesting to see if Ibra does sign but if I was a Milan fan I would much rather E'Too. By all accounts Ancelott is looking at Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto’o and Philippe Mexes.
Oh and Milan did not cheat and it is ludicrous to think so and just shows the generally bitterness of Liverpool fans.

So we should apologise that we are more loyal than other fans. Sorry about that.
Would this bitching not have been justified if United had played Liverpool? When the inevitable deaths would have occured would United fans have got the same stick that we would have ? I wonder.
Is it right to have the major footballing event showcased in a Stadium not built for Football ?

So why don't you like it being mentioned? Does it take you out of your Sky Sports "United are the bestest ever bubble"? It does doesn't it. Ah yes JSA is what allowed me to make 2 Finals in 2 years at a total cost of nearly 2 grand. Nearly as stupid as your usual posts.
Erm I think it is what the Poll changed into that got me a bit upset or did you miss that point ? I don't need to feel better about losing, it is part of the game and one you must accept no matter who you support. Very hard pill to swallow when you are clearly the better side though. Of course you never were against Milan so you wouldn't know.
How very clever of you not to mention Heysel or Hillsborough, yes my guilty conscience led me to think of both despite the fact I was a child when both happened and at neither. You are of course right that I should have thought you meant any other subject other than those 2.
Why should I be gracious in defeat (although I was when it mattered with the fans who assed themselves to go) with people who either don't support Milan or it didn't mean enough for them to be there?

more than likely he was being held down on the bonnet of his car, had a stanley to the throat, three scousers with mags in hand read to ass rape him and two more stealing the hubcaps while they forced him to read that bollocks.
I gave more than enough warning.
-----
Back to Milan matters, Kaladze is said to be unhappy at having spent a fair chunk of the season on the bench and is considering leaving unless that changes. I'm inclined to agree with him to a point although it depends on whether we buy any defenders or not. Maldini might be continuing his career but he will barely play. Bonera will hopefully be sold as he's not good enough and although I'd like us to sign a superb defender, I don't think we will.
I'd like to see the back of Borriello and Oliveira as well. Oliveira has tried hard but it just isn't going to work while Borriello is a waste of space. Run out of patience with Gilardino too but maybe, somehow, he can get his career back on track.
Ancelotti has said that a lot of players want to join but one in particular who cannot be named because doing so would cause chaos. Every big Italian newspaper believes it is Zlatan Ibrahimovic after his remarks about Juventus and Moggi last week angered Inter Milan. Strange how he now says the Juventus side he was a part of are better than the Inter side he is with now at the same time that Juventus get promoted back to Serie A. Before then he couldn't stop saying how amazing Inter were.

Next season will AC Milan and Juve be able to challenge for the title when everybody starts on the same pointage? Also where can I watch Serie A? I have been watching alot of Prem and Spanish this year and occasionally Eredivisie and wouldn't mind seeing some Italian shiz. Bravo had it for a while.

I think Juventus should aim for the top four and work from there. Milan are aiming for the title but we shall see. Inter had a very strong squad this season and I can't see them losing many key members.
The contract Setanta Sports had for Italian football has finished. Bravo had a contract with Setanta to show certain games but due to poor viewing figures, they dropped it mid-season. Setanta continued to show diminishing live coverage until about a month ago when they switched to delayed coverage of full games. At the moment, nobody will be showing Serie A in Britain next season but hopefully something will change in the summer. I think the stumbling block is that since Channel 4 lost Italian football people haven't made the effort to get back into it (which is understandable) but the cost of showing it is probably still very high due to its incredible popularity back home.
Sky couldn't possibly show it considering how much English and Spanish football they have and Setanta will probably decide against renewing the contract as they get a number of English games next season. That doesn't leave many options. EuroSport were fine with it when they first had it but soon started messing viewers around. I can't see Channel 4 going for it....so what's left?

Bit of a bugger that. I think Channel 4 have lost the cricket now and Lost so perhaps all the money they get from that (which may not be enough) could be pumped into getting Serie A. I may email Channel 4 and ask them. We need it.

Sky should really get the rights to show Italian games, I mean I'd probably actually watch a few of those unlike the Spanish wank.
Been a great season for us, bar those two shite months (October - December). I was at the match in Athens, and at times, I felt that those 2 months were coming back to us. We were too cautious and made too many silly mistakes. But in the end, we got the result that matters, and we are rightfully European Champs. FORZA MILAN!!!

We were prepared to offer £70m for Ronaldinho so as far as I'm concerned we should be spending in the region of £50m on various players and forget him.

Next season will AC Milan and Juve be able to challenge for the title when everybody starts on the same pointage?
Seems complicated. On Milan's part, very little has been done to address the aging issue, which obviously only gets worse with time. Ronaldinho is overpriced comparing him to what he brings to the field, and he never has formed a working partnership with Kaká.
Even moreso, what would happen if Milan had both of them? They wouldn't want Ronaldinho overshadowed (because his pricetag comes from his marketability). So, a huge price to have the field probably weakened? I think the transfer isn't a wise bet. Milan desperately needs signings to maintain their status, but Dinho is hardly it.
On Juve, it will depend a lot on who they get for next season, dominating Serie B is still hardly a guarantee of being top tier at Serie A, and there might be issues at the adaptation of a largely new squad with a new directing team.
I dislike many things about Inter, but I think they might still have the upper hand next season.
I say sell Kaka, cash-in big time and buy whatever you need.
I say sell Kaka, cash-in big time and buy whatever you need.
TERRIBLE, WE JUST SAID, AGING IS A PROBLEM IN MILAN.
anyways, aging is a big problem in Milan, that's why we have milanello and Milan Lab to maintain form of old players:P
From our CL campaign this year, this should bring us well over 70million. I think buying Eto'o, Mexes, another midfielder, a backup for Kaka and Zambrotta. Buffon is a good option, but I don't see him coming after renewing Dida. recall Donati, recall Abbiati, assume we don't have many injuries (knock on the wood), we should be up for the title challenge.
