I think he's right to complain but the co-efficients are of the last 5 years like so thats the way it goes, really, tho i think that main league champions should be top seed. Like how is Arsenal in the top seed?

Congratulations to Frank Lampard for his baby Luna!

I don't see why they were second seeded in the first place, but he's afraid of being put out by a 'big big' team.

Nah, José Mourinho fears nothing!

He's right again. Chelsea is the best team in England ATM, and certainly one of the 8 best teams in Europe ATM, so they should have been top-seed.

i think uefa looked back at the records for the past 10 seasons. man u and arsenal certainly took more part in the champions league than chelsea... liverpool of course won it 5 times. and the other top seeds are great european clubs as well. my only doubt on this seeding is arsenal who never got past the last 16...

That must be the reason, because they can be no other explaination for chelsea not to be in the top seed. I don't care anyway, because the prospect of chelsea playing Madrid, Barca, Inter or Milan is quite exciting. I don't want Chelsea to play L'pool (referees back them at Anfield too much) or Bayern (I find them quite boring - sorry Munich supporters).

Chelsea progressed further than ManU and Arsenal for the past 2 seasons, and won the League. So why are they considered more outsiders than those two?

And Liverpool haven't won it 5 times in the past 10 seasons though. Nottingham Forest won it twice - where would you seed them now? Past victories as far back as some of Liverpool's don't mean diddly.

Points are ONLY accumulated from what you do in Europe. They are counted back for five seasons, not ten, and you earn more by beating a big team than a small one as well as obviously earning more for how far you get in a competition.

I repeat, you earn NO points for what you do in your domestic league, even if you win it by 50 points.

This system has been in place for years and everyone knows how it works. Everyone knows that it is based on the above and yet Mourinho complains. Make your own assumptions on that, but there is your explanation for why Chelsea are second seeds. I'm not saying they are amongst the 9th to 16th strongest side in the competition and nor are UEFA, but based on the last five years, they only accumulated enough points in continental competition to be ranked there. In two years they're going to be in the top three anyway.
