Shunsuke Nakamura should be good this season

There is already an existing official Celtic thread, but seeing as the content of that one...well...wasn't of a very high standard - I'll let this one go.

Nakamura - great player, yes. Surprised he ended up at Celtic though, I thought perhaps he'd prefer the other european options. Unless of course they didn't follow through their interest (Depor and At.Madrid). I'm not sure what the situation was in the end...(?)

Good to see Zurawski and Nakamura both getting goals yesterday.

And many thanks to our good friends at Hibernian, especially Ivan Sproule, for giving Rangers one hell of a beating!

Ha Ha, I was cursing them very much then, but things change quickly in football, I never thought I would ever support Porto or Artmedia until the Champions league draw last week!

Im was shocked when i heard the 3-0 final score to Rangers. Then when we beat Dunfermline yesterday and i seen that Naka and Magic scored, good to see them off the mark and hopefully we can go forward. Lennon and Thompson wasnt on yesterday, so we were more attacking... hope Gord keeps them out of the XI for a while... just to see.

I don't know aboout anyone else but I hope Stachan brings in a CB before the deadline as our defence is shocking. Don't let that 4-0 scoreline fool you, I'm actually quite worried about playing Hearts for a change.

Celtic are expected to seal the signing of Chinese defender Du Wei after he was granted a work permit.

Bhoys boss Gordon Strachan has expressed a desire to sign the tall central defender to bolster his squad.

The Shanghai Shenhua ace enjoyed a short trial spell at the Scottish giants last month and he impressed Strachan.

Strachan has been searching for defensive reinforcement after making a shaky start to the new season and the club have still to find replacements for Jackie McNamara, Ulrik Laursen and Joos Valgaeren.

Celtic had been struggling to agree a deal with Shanghai for Wei, but with the stumbling block of a work permit being resolved, it appears he is on his way to Glasgow.

I read on the text the fee was 800k.

it's a smart buy for celtic i think. i mean there are 13m people in china and u need only 1% to buy a celtic shirt with du wei's name on it, u will earn more than playing in the champions league. same as nakamura...

but whether he can adapt to live in scotland remains to be seen. the meals are quite different, so celtic will netta open a chinese restaurant and a sushi bar (for nakamura) now...

nakamura is well-travelled so he will have no problems... my concert is du wei's style won't suit european football. but i reckon he is better than varga at least...

I haven't ever seen this Du Wei character so I won't come to any conclusions until I have seen him play. Although I would much rather have Krygiakos than a marketing tool to sell more shirts.

Dont like how cheap Celtic are tho... its low. I have more money in my bank card than Celtic have. Champions League knockout messed shit up for us. Abramovic should buy Celtic, haha.Moneys problems over, then.

Celtic are weighing up a January bid for Bulgaria international Blagoy Georgiev.

The 23-year-old currently plays for Slavia Sofia but the club are hoping to cash in to the tune of £1 million in the New Year.

Georgiev can play at right back, or on the right side of midfield, and is being courted by clubs in Germany, France and Spain.

Bhoys boss Gordon Strachan has scouted Georgiev and has also asked Stilian Petrov about the player's qualities.

Petrov admits he has given his club manager an appraisal of Georgiev but is unsure if Celtic will make a bid for his compatriot.

"Gordon Strachan asked me about Blagoy and I gave him my honest opinion," said Petrov.

"I am just a player and the club have to decide whether or not to sign him but I think he could be tremendous at Celtic.

"He is tall, physical and can play anywhere on the right side of the pitch.

"On top of that he takes good free kicks and is very pacey. I think his style would suit Scottish football."

You would think that a team of Celtics history, status, fanbase etc.. some billionaire would buy or invest alot of ££££.Celtic looked like they were going somewhere positive after the UEFA final, but we seem to be going in the other direction, its not fair on the fans.

Celtic 2 - 0 Aberdeen (Zurawski, 13. Petrov, 61)

Happy days lads. And with Rangers managing a 1-1 draw with Falkirk, its a good day. We sit 2nd with 13pts and Rangers sit 5th with 10. Hearts still top with 15pts and have a game in hand.

I hope it's more than a two horse race too, but I would like to see Hibs (who are still in for a shout) and Aberdeen to get in, Aberdeen are good but they fail against smaller teams (A bit like us) but you can't take it away from Hearts for their recent form and give credit to them. And I hope Rangers win the league. :D

Celtic closed the gap on leaders Hearts with a 1-0 win at Hibernian.

Stilian Petrov's early strike proved to be enough to give Gordon Strachan's men all three points.

The Bulgarian international drilled home from 18 yards from Shunsuke Nakamura's pass after just five minutes.

Celtic dominated the first 45 minutes and John Hartson and Nakamura both went close to increasing the lead only to be denied by Hibs goalkeeper Zbigniew Malkowski.

Hibs went close to drawing level just before the break when Steven Whittaker saw his deflected shot well saved by Artur Boruc.

Nakamura was inches away from doubling Celtic's lead four minutes after the break when his free kick crashed off the post and Paul Telfer was unable to find the net from the rebound.

Hibs pushed forward in the second half in search of an equaliser, but they could not find a way past a resolute Celtic rearguard.

The win helps Celtic cut Hearts' lead at the top of the table to five points.

I agree with that, as soon as i heard the news i was shocked :realmad:
Any Celtic fans here actually think he should be captain!?!?
He's simply a joke and from what i see of him he does bugger all in midfeild.

Charlie: 9

All i can say is Russel Latapy, use had some problems trying to get the ball off him last night, only recall him misplacing a pass once. Other than that i thought use should have scored about 3 more and Falkirk should have had a penalty, when Shaun malony hand balled it then hid is hand behind his back ;)

I'm afraid I can't see this happening. A draw would do us Rangers fans nicely though if a team were to win, it would have to be Celtic, they are at home, and Hearts are without Roman Bednar and Craig Gordon, that can be vital especially Craig Gordon now that they will have to use their sub keeper and with Celtic improving their strike force like Maciej Zurawski, how will this reserve keeper handle it.

celtic have the best chance this season of any team to beat the jam tarts (apart from livvy in the cis) as alot of their players are away on int duty, injured or suspended!!! lol, and after watching pressleys dismal performance against belarus things are not lookin to good. i woould like a draw, but a win for hearts would do us a turn, you know that they will fall back after christmas (if they make it that far) and it will be the usual for the rest of the season. pesonally i would like hearts to be up there at the end of the season. rather them than celtic!

Good result for Rangers but Celtic fans probably would believe they should have won, listening it on the radio and it seemed like Hearts where always on the back foot.

After seeing Zurawski's goal against Rangers the other week. I thought that we would have been under P' for the rest of the game, but the OF match was quite tame. Still a long way to go yet, I wouldnt see that we have the league won, so I wont say that If Celtic dont win the league Ill eat my hat, I ate my hat last season!. So the league'll be over when you actually see Lennon lift it up. Rangers have had their bad patch, theyre due a good run, so lets just hold out and have those fingers crossed.

Celtic chairman Brian Quinn admits the chances of his club joining The Premiership are looking bleak.

Both The Bhoys and Old Firm rivals Rangers have been constant in their desire to switch to England's top-flight.

However, Quinn admits the prospects are not good.

"There isn't an opportunity to actively pursue, although we are standing in readiness," Quinn told Celtic TV.

"But if I had to be absolutely candid then the prospect to join The Premiership or any other reorganisation in European football has receded a bit.

"The G14 clubs are more preoccupied with other things.

"My firm belief sooner or later is what the customer wants, the customer gets and it breaks through.

"At some stage Celtic will receive an invitation to play in a different league and we will look at it at that stage."

Yeah last season was very exciting, maybe they should try to expand the SPL, take out that league split and try to build from making it a 18-20 team league. It'll take a brave while maybe, but I cant see us getting into English football, let alone the Prem.

They did in the course helping Rangers to secure the Champions League spot. Hearts were denied a last minute penalty to which I saw on a Celtic forum the idiotic quote, "We were cheated into winning the game".

We have been disgraceful this season and Hearts shot themselves in the foot by sacking Burley so they probably deserved it although I can guarantee it being much tougher next season with (<------) that man in charge. ;)

Celtic win their 40th league title, just remember that when Rangers won their 40th, Marharet Thatcher was PM, the Berlin wall stood and the internet didn't exist. ;)

The problem with Jarosik is that he can go missing in games especially when the tackles start flying in. He can look a bit clumsy as well at times due to his lanky build but I believe he is a good player and if he starts regularly, which he didnt do at Birmingham, can only get better.

Also heard Birmingham have been in touch with Sutton all through the summer and he will probably join us later this week (local radio said that

I think Slippy mightve been right (see few posts above) that he costed us like 2m. If it was around that number then I thnik he will prove to be well worth it and I hope he keeps up the performance level.

Strachan looks to Piquionne

Celtic boss Gordon Strachan has reportedly made an enquiry about St Etienne striker Frederic Piquionne.

The Hoops manager has been looking for a tall and talented centre forward since John Hartson left Celtic Park to join West Bromwich Albion earlier in the summer.

French reports claim the Scottish Premier League champions therefore asked Les Verts about a possible loan move for the coming season.

Despite the player's difficult relationship with the Stade Geoffrey-Guichard faithful, new coach Ivan Hasek wants to keep the player for another season.

He still has three years left on his deal at the Ligue 1 club, but was embroiled in controversy in January after head-butting one of his own fans for insulting him.

The player had also been linked with a move to rejoin former coach Elie Baup at Toulouse, but now looks set to stick it out at ASSE for the coming season.

I cant really make a judgement on this man. Maybe someone who watches French football, Nikos or someone.

I dont think Id want to meet him, if he has already stuck a head in a fan...

Coppola a Bhoys option

Messina midfielder Carmine Coppola is being mooted as a target for Celtic, according to reports in the Italian media.

Bhoys boss Gordon Strachan is still looking to strengthen his squad ahead of a UEFA Champions League campaign and is assessing his options.

With Stilian Petrov having asked to leave the Scottish champions, a midfield replacement could be required before the August transfer deadline.

Speculation in Italy claims Coppola is under consideration by Strachan, whose team started the new SPL season with a 4-1 victory over Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Coppola has spent the past five years with Messina and has impressed in the last couple of seasons in Serie A.

He has collected two caps for Italy after making his international debut last summer against Serbia & Montenegro.

The 27-year-old was courted by Tottenham Hotspur 12 months ago, but Messina proved reluctant sellers.

Messina could again take some persuading to sell Coppola as Celtic muse over following up their early interest.

Dont know this fella, either...

Celtic winger Ross Wallace has gone on a week's trial with Birmingham City.
The club relegated to the English Championship last season confirmed that the 21-year-old had arrived at St Andrews on Tuesday.

Wallace, who is a product of Celtic's youth set-up, has made 22 starts for the Scottish champions, as well as 26 appearances as a subtitute.

He was used as a stand-in left-back last season but appears to have fallen down Gordon Strachan's pecking order.

I would rather him than Mo Camara, but Strachan has let him go on the transfer list as the player had requested. I liked him and he wont be missed now like as were about to sign a Czech left back anyway, this week I think.

He can play left wing aswell and can attack a little bit and should be a good for Birmingham, still only 21. If I can find clips of him for you, Huw, Ill send them your way...

The thread is back from the dead.

We showed today how to battle back and again come from a goal down, which is good and bad... Mainly good as we won 2-1 thanks to a super finish from Craig Gordon. Having been listening to the game on BBC Scotland when Jarosik scored I thought it was a joke but it wasnt and its good to see him do something, I hope he can take off now and stop being a waste of space. Craig Gordon, who McCoist deems one of the best keepers in the UK and best in Scotland, let McManus shot slip and just dropped a clanger, which was very, very funny. I then later seen the highlights and it was great...

... A 2-1 win today see's us making another great stride to lifitng the league, long way yet, but for now we can smile ;)

Hibs 2 - 2 Celtic

Hibs are a very good team to watch, they took Rangers apart and today there were doing the same to us, great football. Having taken a two goal lead, Celtic, as usual, get in gear and make a come back which is what champions should do, but overall Hibs have played better, but we have came into the game in the second half.

The game seem good football from Hibs from the go, with Sproule, who scored a hat-trick against Rangers and has a little knack for scoring against Old Firm Blue, struck a sweet shot, straight past Boruc, it was like a rocket. Thompson then scored after an excellent run through our defence, the run alone deserved a goal. This season see's us battle when behind and today we done it, yet again with Sno side-footing in Kenny Millers pull back and then McGeady coming off the bench to ease the ball in from about 20 yards.

Were still going strong, but if Im being honest we did deserve a draw, but Hibs were amazing untill they let it slip as they usualy do, otherwise we wouldve been beat.

As a football fan I loved the way Hibs took the hand out of us, but as a Celtic fan I cursed so much at the TV that it was dripping wet.

In the end, we drew and it was a fair result, because our goals were good and we have the battling spirit.

Oh and it is not just us that get fucked over constantly by the media, especially SKY (and those who believe their shite).

"Celtic aim to become the first Scottish team to make the quarter-finals of the Champions League."

Now of course this is true but how many kids and people who don't know any better would realise Celtic had already won the European Cup which is the same trophy but in a different format.

Premiership? Champions League ? Fuck off. You can't buy History.

Barcelona-Liverpool. Absolute shocker of a game two weeks ago at the Nou, but I hoped that we could have pulled something out of the hat at Anfield. Really wasn't to be though, and considering the state we're in Rijikard better sort something out pronto.

Celtic-Milan. Absolute terrific 90 minutes, too bad that we seemed to die come extra time. Milan were pish apart from Kaka to be honest. Also, that was definitely a penalty for me.

However, there's alot to be built upon. Lets start at the back:

Boruc is a machine, amazing game apart from the one slip up (which cost us the match however )

O'Dea, Mcmanus=Solid as a rock. McManus gave Kaka too much space though and should have gotten onto him earlier, even before Lennon did. Apart from that no complaints really. Overall the central defence is looking good, with a returning Caldwell and Pressley too. There's also new boy Doumbe who's yet to play, and also John Kennedy in the reserves. I'd think about getting Balde out, as I personally don't see a place for him on the team.

Naylor had an absolute stormer. Even Telfer wasn't TOO bad. It'd be good if we could sign one more player at RB and just alternate between him and Wilson, as I'd rather Telfer just went. A backup for Naylor would be good too.

Lennon's past it. In the longer term, out of the current squad I see Sno and possibly Caldwell, if the role suits him, as his replacements. Sooner the better really.

The picking of Evander Sno over Gravesen boggles my mind. Gravesen is fucking MADE for nights like this. We paid 2 million for him. I understand that Strachan wants to give his youth players a bit of experience, but not at the biggest game of the year. Who knows what could have happened had we played Gravesen from the start. Check Gravesen's pure rocket of a shot.

McGeady, Naka. No real surprises here, just wish Naka would stop disappearing for spells. McGeady was class until he got tired.

Jiri Jarosik didn't perform overly well or anything, would possibly have played Miller here instead just for a bit more speed and pace, and someone who can race defenders to those through balls. We've also got Hartley that can play in this attacking role, maybe next year in Europe (and we will go) this role could go to him instead.

Vennegoor was always a cert, but personally I don't see why. Yeah, fair enough, he's a huge threat in the air, but I didn't see too many high balls coming in to him. Would have definitely taken him off after 90 minutes, but for whom exactly?! Zurawski? Injured Miller? Possibly, but like I said before, I'd have played him in Jarosik's role. Beattie? Personally wouldn't have. Riordan? Best finisher at the club, but the boy hasn't tasted Europe yet. Do you really play someone like that in your biggest game? Upfront's the area we need to work out. Fuck it, may aswell say it...We should have never sold Hartson...

I personally feel that this coming season will be where we really shine in Europe. Not all the way, I'd have to be downright stupid to believe that at this stage, but the last 16 again atleast, but this time no ridiculous scorelines like 3-0 to Copenhagen, less experimentation on the part of Gordon Strachan, less fuckin about with starting line ups and wrong decisions, no stupid own goals to Benfica etc. We've got some amazing young talent who now have a good bit of experience on the European stage, a keeper whose among the best in the world, Pressley and Hartley who are yet untested in Europe, McGeady who just gets better and better on his night, Thomas Gravesen who showed flashes of brilliance tonight and who I believe will finally find his place in the team after an unsettled season so far n Riordan, who is an absolutely quality finisher when he wants to be, can continue to improve. Hopefully Balde and Lennon will be wiped away, and players like Telfer who don't deserve the Celtic shirt can piss off too.

Overall they done us proud though. Every player can feel proud with the performance they put in tonight. This isn't the end, it's just the beginning ...

Anyone got a pic of Neil Lennon with his top off? Its not that I could do with a wank but I was quite disillusioned with his huge gut and tits (as were the Sky panel) and frankly need to see them again, I was so mesmorized by them.

Maldini handball and Nakamura floored, two penalties, but nah the Ref was terrible to be honest. When Kaka scored it was down to Sno's poor pass and Mick giving him too much room, knowing that Kaka is quick, but there was some positives to come from the Champions League last night... Arsenal were put out.

Good run were on atm, might be 4 points in it, but I think come the Parkhead OFs, well go top again. We're scoring alot(what is it 12 in the last 3 games ?) and only let in 2, I think Samaras will be a good signing for us to be honest he seems to be confident on the ball and has more placement than big Jan.

The leagues beginning to look more interesting now but, with both of us playing well, but the OFs will definitely be the decider.
