View Full Version : Bolton Wanderers
Well, since nobody had my favourite english team as a thread, i made one. any other Bolton fans? please join then. i believe our team is mostly underrated, but i feel we are stronger and a good side. if one team is unexpected to cause big problems, i feel its Bolton. :)
To start off, We just won our second straight game, this time against Portsmouth. 1-0 it ended. Absolute brilliant goal there by Kevin Nolan by the 25th minute, and i feel, a strong contender for goal of the season, amazing! Four wins out of five, and our fourth clean sheet We are currently fourth position now. any says?
We are going real good!! :) :D :)
I think that Bolton are lucky to have such a great manager Sam Allerdyce he is one of the best.

I'm not a fan - but I bought Bruno N'Gotty for my Daily Telegraph Fantasy football league. He's got me loads of points so far - and only time he's conceded was that 90th minute Sheringham penalty.
My faviourite players for Bolton are El Hadji Diouf and Kevin Nolan they are both class players.

Disagree with you there. Diouf is a right bastard! Spitting on the Celtic fans, well, the bastard spits all the time. Not even a good footballer either, if he was he'd still be at Liverpool!

Underrated players of Bolton are Okocha, Nolan and Stellios. Also the new Mexico striker was pretty good

True! he was spitting everywere he want......good striker but a real dirty, aggoront b**tard

yeah, Jared Borgetti. good striker even if he already is in his thirties.. Okocha will always be a master of trickery. Nolan get good goals, and if you have seen the one he made against Pompey, class! And stelios, although he wasnt good at his first season, he was much much better on his second season, scoring crucial goals, and a lovely one against Norwich, cant forget that one.. And he contributes to the whole team, if Stelios is energetic he has the ability to influence the team.
P.S. yeah Diouf spits, but he wasnt use to the European game at first.. so yeah.. but i guess he is learning his manners now.. he can be good at times, but at other times, man, he aint playing well. but i love the way he crosses, great crosser ;)

Diouf will never have manners. it dont matter if he wasnt used to the European game, he's playing in Europe and he's a pro footballer and should know that spitting isnt right.

Yes, that was a lucky game for them, but nevertheless you have to admire how far they've come in just a few years. Sam Allardyce is a great manager, should take over from Sven when he goes.

football is like that at times oceloe.. i agree with Yossi, you should admire them, they were battling from relegation few years back, but look at them now. much improved, one hell of a manager they've got.

i agree.. he is a bit rusty now.. but when he feels good and plays well for the first 20 minutes, he will play real well for the rest of the game. Kinda like a Rivaldo type, delivers the magic when they feel on top.

Okocha? Hmm, i guess it because he didnt want to move to Qatar. But yes in Qatar and those middle east countries, they have loads of money. Once then even sponsored a match featuring an all star team against Juventus in the U.A.E., got to watch that, ;), anyway, Im glad Okocha stayed in Bolton. he was made to play there.

Okocha, that guy was class. He could take a freekick from 30m and blast it into the top corner on the keeper's side. His trickery and techniques are godly. I still remembered how he single handedly destroyed Bayern Munich. Shame he lost it now but this player should achieve more in his footballing life.

master of trickery. i remembered the first match Bolton had two seasons ago, he was pure class. Scoring a hat trick, his first and second goal were amazing. That first goal, the free kick, is just a sign that JJ was one of the best players to grace football..

Well done to Bolton, qualified for the Uefa cup in there debut, it looked a bit shakey for them Iliev scored but the o.g. got them back in control and killed the game in the final minutes, I heard that Iliev's goal was good but at the end (I switched it on with 5 minutes to go) it didn't show you the goal, only showed you Bolton Wanderers goals, what was it like?

The O.G, He about the 6 yard box and the player went to pass the ball back to his keeper I believe, but not noticing that the keeper came of his line to collect the ball so hes passed the ball back without looking and it's went in. Second was at the left wing, passes it to Nolan just out or in the box and he slots it away for the keeper to have no chance and from there.
Yes, Plovdiv's goal was quality.. was really afraid Bolton were going out.. thank God they are still in, and deservedly so. It was just wrong timing for Plovdiv, from what i heard, their President was shot dead a few weeks ago and they were dedicating this game to him. :( , anyway, Bolton are in, im happy! :). Leverkusen are out, Galatasaray are going out, they are losing at the moment, Football has become very unpredictable these days..

Good Prediction but who scored for Bolton?
Match report (http://home.skysports.com/matchreport.asp?fxid=285535&CPID=8&channel=football_home).
Radhi Jaidi scored for Bolton. Why may I ask though is Pedersen being played at left back and Gardner on the left wing? Surely Gardner, who is a decent left back, should play there and Pedersen, a striker, should be dropped and let Diouf or Giannakopoulos play on the wing. Allardyce is a great manager, knows more about his team than me, but I still think it's daft constantly doing that.
Cheers for that. I dont know why Pedersen is playing letf back maybe Big Sam thought he was doing well there in training.
Possibly, but he's still not a natural left back. They should've tries harder to get Olivier Bernard, because they were interested in him before he went to Rangers.
Charlie: 9
02-10-2005, 17:57
Jaidi scored for Bolton today. He scored a few last season aswell. Unlucky Bolton ;)
That was a bad match really, but credits to Wigan, they upped their game and looked real sharp when counter attacking. Our two defensive mistakes cost us the goals, we should work on that. I agree with Top Gun. Gardner should have been the left back, while Stelios or Diouf on the wings, dont understand why he picked Pedersen yet again. Anyway, i do trust Big Sam. We need to get a positive result next round coming.
Wigan are starting to become a surprise package, been on an amazing run lately..
It will be hard to get a result in the next match since Bolton are playing Chelsea but after that we have West Brom which should be a win.
You got that right Top Gun. We should at the very least, beat West Brom. Regarding Chelsea though, hope we perform against them like we did last season (at stamford bridge that is) completing a comeback after two goals down. But after Chelsea's performance against Liverpool today, i guess the best we can do is a draw.
Yeah getting any points against Chelsea would be a sucess but West Brom are definetly beatable.
Definitely.. I thought they started off real well at the beginning of the season. Getting some nice points, Horsefield showing improvement, Kirkland being reliable and all. But after that pounding they got against Chelsea, i feel they will be relegated for sure this time.. Im sure we can beat them..
Yeah they will go down i think that UEFA Cup football for Bolton is manageable.
Top Gun, i cant really roam around much, so need to ask you this, which group is Bolton in for the first matches of the UEFA cup? any ideas? Or has it not been drawn yet?
It hasn't been drawn yet but if it has i haven't seen it, i expect we will get Roma.
Bloody.. i hope not though.. Roma are starting to catch form.. something we wouldnt like.. aslong as we get two beatable teams in the group, we can start thinking of maybe even lifting the cup. Going to depend though on the CL teams that get entered to the Cup after finishing third..
Not sure we can win but we could get past the group stage if we get a good draw.
AS Roma 2 - 3 Siena
Alright, bring Roma on.. :D :D

Now, i hate Henri Camara, but how good was his goal? Took it very well and Wigans second was good aswell. Well done Wigan... unlucky Bolton.
Ah well, Henri Camara hurt us today..twas a nice goal, but i honestly felt our defense caused it. If Jaidi only headed somewhere safe instead to the path of Henri, we would have escaped with a point.. unlucky, yes charlie, agreed.

Tuesday, 4 October 2005
Bolton Wanderers FC were drawn in UEFA Cup Group H and chairman Phil Garside is relishing the prospect of some attractive games. "I think Group H has thrown up some tasty away trips for us," he said. We played them in a friendly not too long ago and they beat us 2-0 so perhaps we have a chance for revenge."

PAOK draw daunts Konstantinidis
Tuesday, 4 October 2005
PAOK FC midfielder Pantelis Konstantinidis is perturbed by a tough Gropup G draw in the UEFA Cup group stage, which will see the Greek side take on VfB Stuttgart, FC Shakhtar Donetsk, Stade Rennais FC and AFC Rapid Bucuresti. "The draw was not the best," he said. "Stuttgart are a very strong German side and we are expecting them to be tough opponents. Our schedule is good though. It's good that we start with an away match at Rennes and that we don't have to travel to Ukraine to play against Shakhtar Donetsk."
*starting away to Rennes, away to Stuttgart, home to Shakhtar, away to Bucarest, like Bolton, one away draw or even win, and wins at our home, we will qualify*

Well thats too bad for Sevilla, because in the Uefa Cup group stages, you play 4 games, 2 home games, 2 away games, and Bolton have Sevilla at home which is good for them, I don't see Zenit or Guimaraes causing trouble but Sevilla and Besiktas will be hard.

yeah, i feel that too.. but if Bolton are serious, they should overcome them.. wont be easy, i agree.. and we all know football is unpredictable these days..
Considering that three from five go through, all Bolton have to do is beat Vitoria and Zenith, so they should go through. Even if they drop points against them two, you'd still expect them to get something from the other two games. I definitely expect them to get through this group.

Big Sam wants to make sure if he could fit into the squad and the plans. And also if Nakata is the man for his midfield.. By the looks of it, it hasnt gone too bad. he done the same thing with Diouf, Diouf played well in his loan season. And his reward? a permanent move to Bolton

1-1 now, a minute left. Excellent equaliser by Borghetti.
Bolton will draw this.. a good start honestly.. at one point, i was afraid they would lose this.. Borgetti's equalizer was fabulous!

Great strike by Borgetti. Fair result for both teams

Good result for Besiktas. They haven't won in a month or so. Bolton was quite disappointing, but half of the team was back in England so fair enough.
Fair result, yes. Im happy for that. Could have been worse

Just incase no-body knew...
Defender Djetou signs for Bolton
Former France international Martin Djetou has joined Bolton until the end of the season.
The 31-year-old defender has been a free agent since spending five months at Nice last season.
Djetou, who left Fulham in 2004 after two seasons, could be in the squad to face Chelsea on Saturday.
Bolton boss Sam Allardyce told the club website: "With the injuries we have, I had to move quickly. Martin is an excellent all-round player."
Djetou played under Jean Tigana at Fulham, making 51 appearances and scoring one goal in a two-year loan spell from Parma.

EDIT: This is old news so forget the Chelsea thing
Bolton 2-0 W.B.A , i knew we could have won, and we got a positive reuslt, a cleansheet too. Nakata finally got his goal, 81st minute, and then Nolan in the 90th minute. Two late goals that gave us three points. Nakata could have had two. He had an empty net to hit, unforunately Stelios was in the way (didnt matter though). Im not quite sure about W.B.A's penalty and their repeat, but aslong as it didnt count, and we win, im happy.. Go Bolton! :)

Did N'Gotty play?

23-10-2005, 18:55
Indeed he did.
Good game I wanna see it on MOTD
Bolton 1-0 Zenit. Nolan got us our winner on 24 minutes. :). it was a deserved win for Bolton against Zenit. Thanks to Nolan again. Zenit were really tough in the defense, but scoring early proved a big advantage, as we controlled the game. Bolton, 4 points out of two. up next, away to Guimaraes on November 24. Guimaraes played their only game to date and were against Zenit in Russia where they lost 2-1. Exepecting atleast 1-2 win for Bolton.

Yeah Bolton deserved the win. I doubt Nolan will be called up to the England squad though
Just why doesnt Eriksson call up Nolan?? Dumb ass Sven.. Nolan is proving himself, scoring again! this time against Tottenham and it proved to be the winner.. 7 goals in the league this season.. aint it enough for a call up yet?? Nolan deserves to play for England.. he is always being foreseen..

7 goals??? I sware it was only 3. Well he cant really I mean lots of people are pushing for a place. Like Scotty Parker and Danny Murphy. Although he could beat dumb ass Owen Hargreaves
He has scored 7 goals this season and some of them have been great like last nights and the overhead kick.
Bolton are having a great season so far and if they had played Birmingham and beat them they would have went second.

I would be happy if someone could create Djetou, ´cause I can´t wonder his stas. Thanks

Defender Djetou signs for Bolton
You should start a new thread to ask for his appearance since not a lot of people look at this one.
Guimaraes 1-1 Bolton. Two goals in the space of two minutes. The game bursted into life at the 86th minute, when Guimaraes the Portuguese side took the lead. Only to see fellow Portuguese striker of Bolton, Ricardo Vaz Te equalize. Pretty cool stuff. Second half was much better imo. Anyway, the way thing stands, we only need one more point to secure our place to the final 32. Which is pretty much in our own hands, home game against Sevilla. :)

Great goal from Vaz Te. I thought a draw would be fair. I was upset when they took the lead because it was a sloppy goal. But I had a feeling Bolton would equalise and they did!
I didnt really think they would equalise but i am happy they did.
2-1 tonight. Going into extra time it was 0-0 but then Borgetti and Vaz Te got 2 goals in 2 minutes but then Williams pulled one back for Leicester to set up a tense finish.

Its the second time that Gianna has scored against them. I am very happy for that. As for Arsenal's view, it was a good match and Henry always looked threatening. Bring on the next opponents!

Well a good draw against Marseille.
Marseille beat Newcastle a few seasons ago. A one Didier Drogba doing the damage.
Its going to be tough for Bolton.
If Bolton get through in which i believe they can, they will either face Zenit or Rosenborg. Very likely that Bolton will feature at the last eight of this competition. I have high hopes for them, lets go guys!
4-0 against everton today. Goals from Stelios (2), Davies and Speed (pen)
4-0 today against Everton. Goals from Stelios (2), Davies and Speed (pen).

Yes. Well done Bolton, i saw the goals of Stelios, nice nice. We thrashed Everton. :D
Why on Earth does Jared Borghetti only play in cup competitions (FA, Carling, and UEFA)? He scores nearly every time he plays, and looks better than Davies. Big Sam is a good manager, surely he can see that Borghetti is being wasted?

Hello. I have the same question as Yossi, as I'm mexican, and actually know Jared and his family. They always put him in to play the last minutes of each match (except this one, but, usually) and even playing few minutes he manages to score, so one has to wonder whats going on.

Maybe His Fitness Levels Arent That Good, Stamina That Sort Of Thing, Big Sam Isnt A Mug , If He Thought Borghetti Was A Better Starter Than Davies Hed Use Him, Some South Americans Take A Bit Of Adapting To The English Game, A Good Punt For A Last Scorer Though(in Cup Games)

I agree with Yossi. He scores more than Davies and should play.
Bolton say hands-off Sam Alladyce :( Newcastle wont get him.

To be fair though, Davies does give a lot to the team, if not goals, then winning headers, free kicks and nice lay offs.
True, but when you play with a lone striker they should score before doing other things. Also yesterday as well as scoring, he made a lovely dummy for the second goal, showing that he does have more to him than scoring.

Good luck to him.
Nothing I'd love more than for him to get a hatrick(well there is but still, it'd be nice).
Heh, Nakata gets sent off after 30 minutes and Borghetti is sacrificed in a defensive move. He's getting no luck.
why does Big Sam always have a go at the refs when he doesn't win? when he drew 2 - 2 with Pool he complained about the ref and then today after the 0 - 0 againest Blackburn he complained again...he's is slowly becoming my least favourite person
Sam Allardyce is great, and if that stuff he said on Match Of The Day was true, then he has a reason to complain.
"He's are new stat man!"
Lineker has truly mastered the art of television presenting.
Yeah, none of those guys are funny, all of their jokes are shit. Graeme Le Saux: "I thought it was an animal, hahaha".
Greame is funny, to laugh AT, you'd think they'd get a decent pundit in. But I do like actually like Lineker, and Hanson. Can't stand Mark Lawrenson though, mainly because of his awful hair!

Well Bolton drew 0-0 with Marseille on Wednesday. Denied a clear-cut penalty.
Damn, this thread has died!
Anyway, big news.. Anelka with us now. I can expect a few goals from him, but should really blossom in his second season providing he doesn't leave ofcourse. He is still 27 and he has goals wherever he goes, so this is a big plus for us.
Results in the EPL so far:
Bolton 2-0 Tottenham. Win. That was a great result! Campo's goal was pretty special, considering he hardly scores.
Fulham 1-1 Bolton. Draw. Average game I suppose, nothing really went wrong and both teams deserved a point.
Charlton 1-0 Boltong. Lost. No idea about this, I didn't watch or catch the highlights, yet...
Bolton ?-? Watford, September 9.

So how come your defenders are always on the ball agaonst us but against Chelsea and ManUtd they just give the ball away cheap and then fall over when trying to defend?
I think your manager takes special pride in breaking something beautiful.

Did you ever just think that we're better than you?
Its true, Bolton are like Baresi and Maldini on crack when defending, and against Man u and Chelsea seem to be like a hybrid of Ray Charles and Titus Bramble!!!
Why? Tell me why?!!!
Why? Probably because teams like Arsenal try to change their game to be able to battle against you, whereas Man Utd and Chelski forced YOU to change your style of play, which you couldn't. Anyway you're still to play Chelski this season, so wait another 24 hours before you start complaining about getting spanked!

yeah i did stop to think that and this season you probably are.
But i stand by what i said - I watched the Bolton 0-4 ManU game and they were just falling over in the box, slicing clearances and not running with your runners.
Against Arsenal they play with a different energy.
Watch and see when they play Chelski, il bet they give away at least 1 soft goal.

Like I said, Arsenal change their game to suit the way Bolton play theirs. We forced them to change theirs, which they couldn't. Which is why we hammered them.

just a long ball. Should have been dealt with. Plus look where Rooney runs from and only 1 defender runs back.

Didnt see any of this against us.
You do make a good point though about changing our tactics - probably because we get beaten up there every year, they dont seem to try to intimidate ManUtd and Chelsea though IMO
Well we had Saha to run in behind the centre backs. Henry was injured so you never had that.
