Im off to see Franz Ferdinand tonight in Cardiff, anyone else gonna be there?
I've seen them before at Reading Festival 2004 and they were awesome

This isn't relevent to the topic - but you will love Cardiff! Where to you going? CIA? Millennium Stadium?
I went to watch Greenday at Milton Keanes and it was great. I got the DVD and CD of the gig today.

I was going to see Blondie in Cardiff on the 15th but i'm snowed under with work. Now that's a bummer.
Went to see Muse last december at Earls Court, which was immense. I don't even like Muse much but they were immense live.
The two acts i really want to see are 1) The White Stripes and 2) Brian Wilson. If anyone here's of anything don't hesitate to PM me.

Hadn't been to a gig ever until this year. And I've now been to Radio One's not so big weekend at Sunderland, Pee in the Park, Jimmy Eat World, Kaiser Chiefs (with Maximo Park and the Cribs), The Paddingtons.
last gig I went to was Oasis at Newcastle Arena... standing at the front row, was well worthy of every moment of getting squashed by some fat, hairy Geordie.
i'm going to see franz ferdinand at alexandra place next week! well excited, hope they're good papa lazarou!
last gig i went to was david gray, he was amazing live!

10 to 7 my sister phones offering me a spare ticket to see Franz Ferdinand, so I went (I was within 100 yards of another Insight member:unsure: ) - and we all left at 10:20. Disapointed.

This man knows the truth.
I've not got a gig lined up, but I may pop in a see The Coral.

A friend of mine is going to see them very soon I believe. I'll try and find out the relevant details tonight, but if you're snowed under currently at work, I can't imagine you'd be able to go.
I'm jealous of you. I'd love to see Muse play.
The V festival was my last concert....
The last music festival I went to was Paredes de Coura, this summer. It was great. Queens of the Stone Age, Pixies, Foo Fighters, The Bravery, Kaiser Chiefs, The Roots, The Arcade Fire, Nick Cave, Vincent Gallo, Juliette and the Licks etc etc.

Well Franz Ferdinand were great last night. They really got the crowd going. However, they didn't beat Bloc Party who i saw a few weeks earlier.
As for people who want to see the White Stripes, i've seen them twice (once at Reading Fest 2004 and once at Glasto this year) and they were AMAZING both times.
ANyways i just learned that Radiohead are headlining V Fest next year so i am DEFINATELY there
Ordinary Boys - top drawer.

I would kill to see the White Stripes, literally. I don't care if it's a child or a cherished family member, if it will get me tickets then i'll do it.
Yeah Muse were worth every penny, and Earls Court was great. I can't describe how big and loud it is.
I was at V too. I guess you went to Chelmsford though right? I was at Staffordshire for the last two years running. Quite good fun i think.
Well Franz Ferdinand were great last night. They really got the crowd going. However, they didn't beat Bloc Party who i saw a few weeks earlier.
Yeah Franz were good live at V, certainly a presence. But Bloc Party, although i haven't seen them live, are a pile of crap. I hate them with a burning passion.

Ditto. We could all have enjoyed each others company... if only we'd known. I heard they were better 2nd night, but that info came from my friend Simon, a typically unreliable source.

So far this year I've seen;
The Strokes - Brighton Centre.
Supports; The Maccabees, Shout Out Louds.
The Kooks - Brighton Concorde 2.
Supports; The Automatic, The On Offs, Nat Jenkins.
The Go! Team - Brighton Corn Exchange.
Supports; Smoosh (fecking awesome), The Grates.
The Kooks was probably the best, and most enjoyable, but the Strokes was blatantly the gig I had been destined to attend for a good part of my life. The Go! Team was fantastic just for the bouncy, energetic atmosphere, and the original supports! One of which (Smoosh) consisted of two young, American sisters (11 & 13), with one on drums and the other on keyboard - boy oh boy did they make a good sound!

Anyway, I've got Paddingtons on Tuesday, Rakes in-store on Tuesday aswell, Bloc Party on 2nd, and Dirty Pretty Things on May 3rd.

I've only recently started going to gigs. I've been to see two unsigned bands since November:

Best gig I've seen this year was a band called Bedouin Soundclash at Mean Fiddler on Charing Cross Road.

I've heard that Paddingtons are shit live. My mate scouts for Warner (Part-time), and was watching a band that were supporting The Paddingtons (I think it was Five O'Clock Heroes), and said that The Paddingtons were very disappointing.

A saw Paddingtons a few months back, thought they were great! I also thought Five O'Clock Heroes were brilliant, at the gig - I just wanted to hug the guitarist and the lead singer, they were so great in every way. Well, for a bunch of Americans anyway.
Liam, I think The Rifles and The Pigeon Detectives are supporting the Concorde date, which is good as I'm quite fond of The Rifles at the moment. I've had a look around and I think The Young Knives and Retro Riots are supporting the London Forum gig, which I'd be very pleased with as The Young Knives are a favourite of mine!
Anyway, I'm sure it'll be great. Seeing Carl Barat up on stage will be worth the admission, alone.

Did you see the Pigeon Detectives too, bravoboy? What did you think?
I thought they were really good considering they were first up and playing to a quarter of a full crowd. Listened to some of their MySpace stuff tonight and I'm really impressed by them. www.myspace.com/thepigeondetectives.

Yeah, I thought they had potential, "I'm Not Sorry" is a great tune, as is "You Know I Love You", though when they supported DPT down here, we hardly had a crowd developed, as most were late - so they really didn't have too much to play for. I thought the lead singer looked very similar to the Kooks lead singer, Luke Pritchard!
Prefered The Rifles though to be honest. Repeated Offender and Local Boy alone had already made the night for me.
Were the Rifles a four-piece with a short vocalist who looked like he was playing a kids guitar who looked younger than the rest of the band? If so that was the second support act at The Forum gig as well. I thought they were okay, I preferred Pigeon Detectives though.
Pigeon Detectives are touring with The Holloways (which I see you like), I'm going to try and catch them in London on July 19th.

Well, yes they were a four-piece band, and the lead singer is left-handed - didn't seem particularly short though;

Well, well - so far this year I have seen the following (including a couple of good supports);
The Strokes
The Kooks
Paddingtons
The Go! Team
Bloc Party
Mystery Jets
Dirty Pretty Things
The Rakes
Boy Kill Boy
Spinto Band
The Automatic
Graham Coxon
The Maccabees
The Rifles
Jeremy Warmsley
The Pigeon Detectives
The Young Knives
Ladyfuzz
Battle
Bands I'd love to see;
Larrikin Love
The Holloways
Good Shoes
The Pipettes
And plenty others..
But I have got Reading Festival coming up, so that should be fun.

I saw Boy Kill Boy on Saturday, at Frog (The Mean Fiddler). It was a club night, but they were the only live act. They were alright, but not as good as I was expecting. Probably because I only know 5 songs. But I would watch them again though.
I like Frog Night at Mean Fiddler, it's like club night and gig all in one and is only £5 with flyer. I've seen Bedouin Soundclash, The Cazals and Panic! At The Disco there. Bedouin Soundclash were amazing, Cazals not so, and Panic! weren't either....which was especially annoying as we were outside queueing for 2 fucking hours for some reason, it normally takes about 20-30 minutes!
Got tickets for Rise Against at Mean Fiddler in September. Then depending on money I might see Leftover Crack play Camden and the Get Loaded In The Park event in Clapham with Buzzcocks, Babyshambles, Graham Coxon, Long Blondes etc...
Still waiting for my big October...
Razorlight
We Are Scientists
The Automatic
The Feeling
Keane

got back from V Fest...here's my review of bands i saw
Here's my reviews
Dandy Warholls: brilliant...played a great laid back set
James Dean Bradfield: quite dull really...not enough manics songs
Faithless: Any band that STARTS with Insomnia can do no wrong...they were immense even if i did basically break my arm for We Come 1
Morrissey: Played a great set...last true great frontman and played some good smiths songs...finishing with How Soon Is Now was a great idea!! Shame he didn't play There Is A Light... and he took his shirt off too many times
Magic Numbers: really great set...so happy and made everyone have high spirits good new track as well
Bloc Party: I've seen them 3 times and they still never fail to be awesome!!! good new tracks as well
Beck: absolutely fantastic!!! great puppet backdrop and hillarious little interlude thing when the puppets 'invaded' radioheads trailer
Radiohead: OH MY GOD!!! Without doubt the best thing i've ever seen!! great from start to finish!!! And they played Creep!!!

My wee V-Fest review:
The Grates - Great performance. Energetic, loud and fun, with some cool tunes. Shame they were on so early.
Dandy Warhols - A few great tunes but overrall didn't really match my expectations. Pretty much no movement or interaction. Laid back is one way of putting it, lifeless would be another. The drummer is the bomb though, and I almost got the guitarists plectrum when he chucked it.
Jim Noir - Better than I expected. A good set. Don't have a great knowledge of their tunes but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Imogen Heap - Again, I lacked knowledge of her stuff. She has one hell of a voice though and was really interesting to watch due to the interesting use of electronic gizmos.
The Pipettes - Outstanding. I was almost right at the front centre and had an awesome time. Great songs, really good interaction with the crowd and as sweet on the eye as the ear. I'm positive Rose kept staring at me. :)
Razorlight - Brilliant set. Crowd were pumped up, Borrell was brilliant, and it was a good blend of 1st and 2nd album material. (Not that they could do it any other way of course)
Biffy Clyro - My ears hurt after them. They were on really early which was a bit naff, but they didn't let it bother them too much. Good performance.
Paulo Nutini - I don't really know any of their stuff but they were good. Lead singer bloke was trashed; no one understood anything he said outside the lyrics.
Krafty Kuts - Really good. The Strongbow Cider House was rammed for his set. A great blend of tunes ranging from Blur to Daft Punk, the Prodigy and loads of stuff I didn't know but enjoyed anyway.
Art Brut - Joint best of the fest with Beck. Literally brilliant live. Really ballsy and funny. Jay-Z and a few other artists were lightly lampooned which everyone enjoyed a lot. Eddie jumped off the stage and got up on the barrier; I copped a feel. I was buzzing after their performance.
Keane - I was only here to get a good position for Beck. I don't like Keane, but the crowd was big and they seemed to love it so I can't really knock them.
Beck - 10/10. He played a fair bit from Guero which was really good but not enough from Midnight Vultures, not that I can really complain. His stuff with the puppets and dinner table was great, especially, as Papa Lazarou has already mentioned, the puppets trashing Radiohead's trailer. Great set that ended really well with E-Pro.
Go! Team - Missed the first couple of tracks because Beck ended as they began, but brilliant from what I saw. Shame they only had about 35 minutes or so.
Kasabian - Great. Crowd reaction was immense. They work, and interact with, the crowd very well. Ended on Club Foot then came on for a two song encore which finished with LSF and the old 'Ah ah ah...' stuff which we all chanted for ages, even after they'd gone.
So in summary, everyone should go and see Beck, Art Brut and The Pipettes.
EDIT: I also caught the last two Radiohead tracks. Creep was quite something.

I've been to a few gigs this year:
Seen Babyshambles who were actually very good live and sober. Pete was on time.
The Charlatans who were awesome, played a great set mixed with past and present. Also they were supported by the feeling who are pretty good.
Richard Ashcroft who was also blinding, if a little pissed.
Alan Fletcher aka dr karl kennedy from neighbours at a walkabout. Actually a fantastic gig with great atmosphere.
And got tickets to see the zutons in november which should be chirpy.
Nothing however compares to Oasis last year at city of manchester stadium....that was special.
This is a thread to discuss any upcoming gigs that you are going to and how they were.
Im off to see Franz Ferdinand tonight in Cardiff, anyone else gonna be there?
I've seen them before at Reading Festival 2004 and they were awesome
I'm seeing We are Scientists, Towers of London, Babyshambles, The Holloways, Dustin's Bar Mitzvah in the next couple of months. All great bands so it should be good, looking forward to We Are Scientists and Babyshambles most.

Holloways and WAS stand out there, but Towers of London?! What you thinking man?!
Hahaha they are quality, they remind me so much of the sex pistols it's unreal. Go and see them, I guarantee they will start at least 2 fights with audience members and threaten the bouncers, when they played here they flouted the smoking back, smashed up their guitars, picked a fight with the security, snapped a microphone and gave it to a member of the audience and threw beer all over the drumkit and stage. It was amazing.
I'm off to see the All-American Rejects in mid September at the MEN, then on the..hmmm...I think it's early October, I'm off to see Babyshambles in Liverpool.
Should be a ball.

Saw The Holloways at Concorde 2 in Brighton last night, probably the best gig I've been to at that particular venue, everything about it was awesome.
Not only did they play Diamonds and Pearls on request from me and some friends (which they haven't played live in absolutely ages), but there was a massive stage invasion during Fuck Ups (last song on the set), and we all got up there and sang with Alfie into the microphone, top stuff.
"I'm gonna be a great, great, great Grandma by the age of 75!..."

well i have The Guillemots on sunday 11th Febuary which should be cool
if anyone doesn't know them, they are kinda laid back melodic music kinda like the polyphonic spree meets spiritualized
Went and saw Isis tonight :w00t
Aside from the two shite support acts (first was bad enough but second was atrocious) it was brilliant. They were far better than I expected them to be and the time signature and tempo changes from the drummer, Aaron Harris, were absolutely perfect without a hint of stutter. There were probably in the region of 40 such changes he was responsible for in just nine or ten songs as well as the most amazing drumming I've ever witnessed. The whole performance was flawless which was just astounding to see live.
The only disappointment was that they didn't play Deconstructing Towers, Constructing Towers, False Light or Garden of Light. Still, the songs they did play were pure class and it was soooo good for them to finish up with Celestial (The Tower). Well worth the small amount of money I paid and lots more!!
Got tickets for Bloc Party on December 15th at Alexandra Palace, London. Already seen them once this year and I can't wait to see them again.

Greet her with a hug and big smile. Be friendly and confident.
If during the night she keeps playing with her jewelry or fidgeting while talking to you then she likes you.
If you make eye contact and she blushes and loks away then she likes you.

Bringing this thread back from the grave to say that I saw Against Me! play 100 Club on Tuesday, and Camden Underworld on Wednesday and they were the two greatest gigs I've ever been to. Any fans here?
Also saw David Cross (Tobias from Arrested Development) do standup at the 100 club last week, that was really good too.
I am going to be seeing Blondie in about 9 days. Should be good, and it's my first gig.
Also, I have tickets for Squeeze for November, and possibly am going to get some tickets for The Human League, when they come to Norwich. Depends on money, though.

Cali dude your 14(around that age) going on 30.

Haha.
Well to be honest, I would prefer going to see some band like Muse. But, not a lot of People can say that they have seen Debby Harry perform. Especially not a lot of 14 Year Old's. I think it would be a good start, although if truth be told, I'm not looking forward to it THAT much as I don't know many of her song's. I mean yes, there's; One way or another, Hanging on the Telephone, Atomic, Denis, Picture this and Rapture, but there about as many song's as I know from them.
I have liked Squeeze since I was young due to my Dad playing it always on the LP player. I used to know all the word's to plenty of there song's ( :D ). It should be good this one.
The Human League are class. I've only really liked their music in the last 5-6 months, but there songs have something about them that's un-explaniable. All of there songs that I have heard, I have liked. This, without a doubt will be gig of the Year for me if I can get ticket's.

As it happens, I did go, despite not having heard of them prior to the gig! Tiny little venue though, been there a couple of times before, I swear my head actually touches the ceiling. Decent night, decent band.
Might buy some for Lowlands 2007, LCD Soundsystem, Tool, Editors are appealing ,but there's quite a lot of shite in the line-up.
Metallica was pretty good, although seeing them for the second time it wasn't as exciting as it was three years ago. Master Of Puppets, Orion, One, Fade To Black and Seek & Destroy (the last song of the set) were the highlights for me. The only downsides were that they didn't play For Whom The Bell Tolls, and that some of the guys standing in front of me were absolutely paralyzed during the gig (I mean you could go to the stands instead of the field if you want to be boring?).
Im maybe going to see Ian Brown and Morrissey in the near future, anyone been to see either of them?
I went to see Of Montreal last night at a Helsinki club called Redrum. The gig was great, the band had a very good presence on the stage. The stage show was a real freak show, but if you know this band then you know that it suits them :P The venue is probably the best in Helsinki for a club gig. The warm-up band was pretty good too, reminded me of Broken Social Scene a bit. And the DJ set after the gig was amazing.

Just been to see Nine Black Alps, they were fucking fantastic.
EDIT - Well when I say just, I mean Monday.
Is that the Time Won't Let Me Go remix on their myspace? If it's not I suggest you check it out it's quite good.

Time Won't Let Me Go (Van She Tech Remix) was the one I was listening to :)
A decent song :)
Van She Tech have a lot of superb remixes around, my favourites are ones of Feist's 1234, Dragonette's I Get Around, Utah Saint's Something Good and Tiga's You Gonna Want Me.
Anyway, not to go off-topic, has anyone have anything to say about Architecture In Helsinki?
I'm planning to buy tickets for Flow Festival '07 in Helsinki where they are one of the main attractions.
I think MUSE will be playing at the Garden in NY tonight. I'm not going, but I wanted to.

When I read "Underage Festival", I envisioned an array of children locked up in cages, with with price tags around their necks and ownership logos burned onto their skins.
Not that anyone cares but I went to see The Police at the NIA last night
One thing to get out of the way - the average age of people must've been 40 or a bit more but there a few young people there....that I saw on the way into the arena and the way out.
The performance was absolutely magnificient with the songs changed slightly. That amounted to fantastic solo's by guitarist Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland effectively having three drumkits to play, some of which he had to switch between in the middle of songs. Lots of energy and passion, a lovely atmosphere and just a superb night all round. A bonus that the songs I especially wanted to hear were all played.
The biggest surprise of the night, however, was that the opening act, Fiction Plane who are led by Sting's son, were actually very very good. So much so I've downloaded their albums and was going to go and see them at Barfly tonight but I probably can't due to things which have come up.

You're a whore.
I love you, but you're a whore.
If you haven't guessed, I care. I'll check out Fiction Plane as well, if they come with "Black Bar Approval"
Maccabees tonight, for the 5th time. It's a Bestival warm up gig at The Joiners, nice to see them there after the switching of their last planned gig there.

Kasabian's last gig of the 2007 at the ABC tonight. It was amazing. What a night.
Barrier the whole time. They opened with Shoot the Runner and closed on L.S.F.
Then afterwards all 1500+ fans stood out on Glasgow's main street singing L.S.F until the band appeared from their dressing room window. There was people jumping on top of the tour bus and shit. Serg was filming everything. It was an incredible, incredible sight.
What a night.
08/10 Maximo Park

Just came back from watching Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at The Roundhouse in Camden.
They were quality and it was probably the longest gig I've been to; over 2 hours of BRMC is nothing to complain about though. The classics were great - 'Red Eyes And Tears', What Ever Happened To My Rock & Roll', 'Stop' and 'Spread Your Love' - but, the best song of the evening for me had to be 'American X' from the new album. That long instrumental at the end of that tune was top notch and I could not stop smiling.
The only downside was the audience; they kept talking throughout, even about work, and I felt like I was hinged to the person next to me, because of the amount of times I had to move for people to walk to the bar and back to the floor.
They're definitely a band I want to watch again.
Absolutely shattered from going to my only EMO gig of MCR.
They actually put on a pretty decent show!
AF tomorrow, and Foo Fighters on Sunday!

Wow, I'd love to see them live. Love Burns, Spread Your Love, Red Eyes and Tears, they have so many fantastic tunes that I could only imagine sound better live.
Arcade Fire tonight.
Foo Fighters tomorrow.
What a long but fucking enjoyable weekend it is going to be!
Arcade Fire were fucking awesome. Almost as good as Muse at Wembley.
Foos were also top notch. They even played "Keep the Car Running", which is an Arcade Fire song, so I had a semi the whole way through :D

"Pompy" - dude, you've been playing too much PES! It's Pompey ;)
Plus, if you want some real nice ladies, then go to Southampton.
Then you just can't spell :)
Seriously, Southampton women > Pompey women
Then again you're from Brighton, anything other than a couple of men holding hands is a bonus for you :)

Ho ho. Yeah ... You have the attitude of someone who has never visited Brighton. Trust me mate, it's the best place in the U.K for hot women. Without a doubt. Anyone who's been here in spring / summer will tell you that.
Twickenham stadium is about 15 to 20 minutes away from me (by car). I'll be the king of the touts, so watch out. :ninja:
