No Dellas? :(.. hehe, im just joking. Its not a bad team at all you got there The G. I like to see combination of W.Philipps and Tevez, two outstanding and agile players. And you got a world class finisher in Christian Vieri. Hildebrand as usual, a strong custodian. Novotny will always make his presence felt, so i believe you got a good bargain there. And you still have the experiences of Valeron, Cocu and Nedved! Quality players, and players that still deserve plaudits. The pace of Zanetti and Rothen will always be present and ofcourse Gilardino who is very promising and knows where the back of the net is. Same with Montella, although he may be the most fragile player in your team mate. And you have a solid back with Ayala and Cannavaro, hard to break down. Overall, a balanced team and great players in them.

London Lions' manager Guus Hiddink stated: "We were reluctant to let Cannavaro go, the offer was too good to turn down I'm afraid. There wasn't a better professional around than Fabio (Cannavaro) and I'm sad to let him go like this. The club as a whole wish him the best of luck for the future".

London Bag Fiore

Stefano Fiore has recently sealed a deal with GWP FC in which is estimated to cost The Lions a whooping 50 milliom pounds.

I believe this was a great bit of buisness and Stefano(Fiore) will give us that extra bit of bite in midfield and should prove to be a mantle piece signing. I feel the club is really going places, if we continue to sign players of Fiore's calibre then I'm sure we will be challenging for silverware sooner rather than later.

He has recently handed in his transfer request to Lion's manager Hiddink without stating a valid reason for wanting out. Hiddink fumed "I think its a discrace that such an experienced player like Massimo would do this to us. When we signed him he clearly stated he was up for the challenge at the Millenium Stadium, the man's (Ambrosini) a coward, scared of a little competition for 1st team places." Hiddink added that the former Milan midfielder will be training in the reserves until further notice. Ambrosini refused to comment after Hiddink's outburst.

Makaay Relishes Galaxy Test
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/4996/324297mediumsquare1ov.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Makaay has been in lethal form for The Lions in Pre-Season

London Lions' superstar Roy Makaay has claimed he cannot wait to face his old club again. Makaay, who has been on fire in pre-season said: "I know the Galaxy lads very well and maybe I can use that to my advantage, I'm feeling great fitness-wise and really sharp. I would love to show Mourinho that he made a mistake selling me, by firing London into the lead".

Makaay was brought in by Guus Hiddink in a part exchange deal earlier this year, but is expected to get a hostile reception away at Galaxy. "I can't imagine the buzz I'd get if I was to score on Saturday, the teams morale is high so theres no reason why we can't pull off a win". Makaay also conceded that Galaxy FC were very hard to break down and warned London of their pacey attacking line.

Guus Hiddink has yet to reveal his starting line-up for the first clash of the season but Makaay is a favourite to start alongside Gilardino.

Magnificent Makaay

Roy Makaay nets the winner in the dying stages of the game

Following hype from the media for his return to The Galaxy Stadium, Roy Makaay has responded magnificently by scoring the winning goal in the 80th minute of the game which sent London fans crazy.

Makaay recieved a warm and hostile reception from the Galaxy fans. He played an important role last season for Galaxy but was sold to London Lions when Jose Mourinho signed Bel Air's ruthless striker, Andrey Schevchenko. The game was opened up in the first half with a scrappy goal from Gilardino before Galaxy FC equalised before half time. Both teams battled tirelessly as many chances were created at each end. Just as it looked as London had recorded their first draw of the season, Makaay popped up from a Nedved pass, which was an inch perfect for him to run on to. In lethal fashion, the Dutch striker smashed the ball passed ex-London keeper Hildebrand's right hand side. After the game, Makaay stated he was "extremely happy" with the result.

London Lions' boss, Guus Hiddink, commented on the draw:
I'm excited to be up against some of the best teams in the game today in these two cup competitions. Although we are cautious of others teams ability, we know what we are capable of, and we just need to put our heads down and work hard. If we install the same mentality in every game like we did on Saturday, I don't see why we can't bring home some silverware to London.

London Lions 3 - FC Umbrella 1

Match report:

The first 5 minutes gave both sets of fans a taster of what the game was to be today. Every tackle ended with a crunch as both teams searched for a goal early on. The first chance was created by Wright-Phillips, who skinned Lahm for pace just wide of the penalty box and hit a well-driven cross which was met by the head of Gilardino, only to be placed agonisingly wide. The first goal came just before the 20 minute mark with a well-worked goal which was finished off by Nedved, who struck his shot powerfully to Oliver Kahn's left hand side. FC Umbrella struck almost immediately with a goal just 10 minutes later, Zanetti dwelled on the ball as Umbrella's attack nipped in and punished London for getting complacent.

London came out for the second half a different side and dominated possesion in they're search for a goal which finally came mid way through the 2nd half with a neat one-two with Tevez and Gilardino which Tevez scrapped in from an acute angle. As FC Umbrella were clawing they're way back into the game following a period where London were under a lot of pressure, London caught Umbrella on the brake when Zanetti came steaming forward from the back to finish off the game with a simple tap in past the keeper, assisted by London Lions' midfielder Stephen Appiah.

MOTM: Carlos Tevez

Carlos linked up with the midfield well and anticipated the ball when no-one else did. He created space for Gilardino and played a part in all goals, aswell as getting on the score-sheet himself.

Lions face tough Castellon test

http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/7356/5998551072if.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Hiddink is taking a no nonsense approach regarding the clash on Saturday

Guus Hiddink's Lions have been given they're instructions in the wake of the clash with FC Castellon.

Hiddink stated: "I'm going all out as you can see with the boys we've brang to the Bernabeau, obviously we're set out to give Castellon a good game but I'd be happy with a point against a side of they're calibre and depth". "Ronaldinho is the obvious threat but Eto'o is a real danger man too, we're going to need Lucio and Ayala on top form if we want to stand a chance of winning on Saturday, I'm sure they will do just that".

The Lions' manager also claimed his midfield will "bully" Ronaldino and co. into making mistakes. He also said they will "crowd out the big names".

Squad for Castellon:

GK: Dida
Defenders: Evra, Jankulovski, Zanetti, Ayala, Lucio
Midfielders: Emerson, Appiah, Tacchinardi, Nedved, Wright-Phillips, Fiore
Attackers: Tevez, Gilardino, Makaay, Recoba

Podolski eases his second(of three) past Silvio Proto

London were left embarrassed today as FL champions GWP slaughtered the London side 5-0 at The Millenium Stadium.

Guus Hiddink described the game as "cringe-worthy" as The Lions manager was left wincing from goal, after goal, after goal. Although, some would argue Hiddink had a part to blame in the result after blatantly fielding a weakened eleven which were destroyed by the Champions. Hiddink confessed: "After seeing GWP win 3 games in succession I thought I would rest my key players for the big Cup game against FC Umbrella in mid-week, bringing a squad capable of an upset but resting some vital players". London Lions were out-classed, physically and technically as GWP eased to victory. On the bright side, they will be bringing a fit and fresh squad in for the WCL fixture on Tuesday.

London Lions 0 GWP FC 5

London Lions 2 - Lisbon Lions 1

Wright-Phillips celebrates his wonder goal

London Lions scraped a win in the Division One cup in a close encounter with Lisbon Lions.

It was a close affair, chances at both ends were minimal as the key battle in midfield was being won by Lisbon. This reflected Lisbon's goal in the 34th minute, with some powerful work in midfield to create an opening infront of goal. London came out in the second half a stronger side, they closed down opposition immediately and kept pressing until a goal finally came, courtesy of a wonderful solo effort from Shaun Wright-Phillips. The tricky winger brang the ball from inside his own half, shimmy's and speedy step-overs helped him confuse Ze Roberto as he sped past him, his next challenge was to beat gifted full-back Philip Lahm, which he did in superb style with a glorious nutmeg. He capped off his magical run with a cheeky lob from 20 yards out, catching Kahn off-guard. London knew they had to finish the game off as Lisbon started to get back into the game. Finally, an in-swinging corner from Pavel Nedved was converted in from the head of Lucio. London had capped off a fine display with a win, although some would argue Lisbon never deserved the loss.

Bel Air FC 1 - London Lions 3

http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/4445/gilardino15pu.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Gilarino clips the ball over the keeper

Alberto Gilardino stole the headlines here with a stunning hatrick in an exciting game which ended three goals to one in London's favour.

Both teams started all guns blazing and chances were being made at either end. The opener came on the 28th minute mark; Fiore put in a wonderful cross which was greeted with a powerful header from Gilardino which cannoned in off of the crossbar. 1-0. London dominated possesion and refused to let Bel Air play they're game. Although there were worries when Lucio had to clear a Totti lob off of the line.

In the second half Bel Air got back into the game, but Ayala and Lucio were not compromising with Van Nistelrooy or Totti and snuffed out anything Bel Air FC threw at them. As Bel Air searched for the equaliser with both fullbacks going forward, Gilardino found himself in acres of space out wide and was slipped through via a Zanetti through-ball. Gilardino exploited the space as he ran towards goal, he then slipped a pass in for Tevez who was one-on-one, Tevez rounded the keeper and smacked the shot on the bounce, only to hit the crossbar. Luckily, the ball fell to Gilardino who brang it down on his chest and confidently blasted it into the open goal. 2-0.

The stadium was in silence as Bel Air struggled to keep shape as London were spreading passes around the pitch, though they got they're break in the 73rd minute, a slip from Fiore played in Van Nistelrooy who made no mistake. Gilardino made sure it was just a consolation though and completed his hatrick with 10 minutes to go with a calm chip over the goalkeeper. This was a great match to watch and London Lions fans will sleep tonight knowing they have beaten a team contending with them in the league table.

Gattuso should recieve a key-role in London's midfield

World-class midfielder Gennaro Ivan Gattuso will be coming to London Lions in the next transfer-window, for a whooping 110m pounds. Eyebrows will be raised at Guus Hiddink breaking his transfer budget in spectacular fashion but there is no doubting Gennaro's ability to do well for The Lions. The Italian hard-worker said he was "delighted" to join a succesful club such as London, but vowed to give 110% for Norway United in the mean time. Hiddink added: "Gattuso is one of best in the world in his position, along with Emerson aswell, so to have them partnered together is basically a dream come true for me."

http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/4843/stamford9mw.png (http://imageshack.us)

After a meeting with the board, London Lions manager Guus Hiddink has publicly declared The Lions will no longer be playing in Cardiff. Stamford Bridge was announced as the new home for them.

"I found it strange that our games were being played in Wales, where-as we are meant to be based in London, England." he stated. "It got to the point where we were drained from travelling to our home games and most of our away games are nearer to our training ground then Cardiff!". The announcement was no suprise to the fans, who were getting angry at the idea of travelling to Cardiff every other week. The Lions are supposedly moving into their new home immediately, which is said to be as close as the next home game against Norway United next week.

Megal deal sends SWP out

London Lions have won the race for Mauro Camoranesi's signature, the deal involved loyal London born Shaun Wright-Phillips, who is expected to go out to DJ's Elite FC along with Portugese international Costinha. London also pocket a whooping 40m and EX-Barca' rock Edmilson.

Hiddink issued this statement:

The 40 million will go a long way here. Shaun(Wright-Phillips) has been a loyal servant to us over the past couple of seasons and we wish him all the best, it will be a sad day to see him leave. Mauro(Camoranesi) is an established international who is capable of shining at the highest levels, as he has proved with Italy and Juve, it is an honour to have him here, heres versatility will be vital for our team. Edmilson is also a talented player and adds depth to the squad. It's a shame Costinha never showed the form he had with Rafa FC, hes a decent player and we wish him all the best.

The deal has been finalised and will come through in the next window.

2. Wright-Phillips' determined run was rewarded when he was brought down in a wide area, just outside the box. Wright-Phillips insisted on taking the free-kick quickly where he cleverly chipped the ball to the edge of the box to Jankulovski, who made no mistake catching a sweet volley which cannoned in off of the crossbar, his first league goal this season.
