Chairman: Peter Hill-Wood
Manager: Brian Clough
Knick name: The Mjölner

History

In Norse mythology, Asgård (Old Norse: Ásgarðr) is the realm of the Gods, the Æsir. It was created, along with everything else in existence by Odin, Ve and Vili. The aforementioned Odin is the ruler of Asgård.

Another notable inhabitant of Asgård is Thor, the god of thunder and lightning. He was strong, energetic and among the most popular of the gods. His magical hammer, Mjölner, never missed its mark. In reverence to Thor and Mjölner, a depiction of the mighty hammer forms the focal point of Asgård United's badge.

At the centre of Asgård lies the plain of Idavoll (Old Norse: Iðavöllr). Gladsheim, where Odin's hall of Valhalla, and a meeting hall where the male Æsir held council, is located in Idavoll as is the gigantic ash tree, Yggdrasilla, thought to connect all the nine worlds of Norse cosmology as well as supporting Asgård.

Perhaps most relevant to Asgård United within Idavoll, is the Asgård Arena. The stadium was constructed to meet the needs of the football-loving inhabitants of both Asgård and Midgård (Earth), and welcomes both the Æsir and humans.

Asgård United FC prides itself on playing a brand of football worthy of Godly viewing, blending power, precision, wisdom and an unerring desire to succeed. With the mighty Mjölner on our chest and the Æsir looking on, Asgård United valiantly chase ascension to football's highest level.

Clough Targets Eidur

http://www.teamtalk.com/Images/60183.jpg
Gudjohnsen has been the target of much interest in previous weeks

In an exciting development, it has emerged that Asgård United have sealed the purchase of Offside Athletic's versatile forward, Eidur Gudjohnsen.

The talented Icelandic forward has had an up and down season and has previously stated his desire to gain first team football. It was only a week or so ago that reports emanating from Boston, USA, stated Merseyside USA manager Steve Nicol was a keen admirer of the player. Reports from Reuters a few days later indicated the deal was nearing completion.

However earlier today a BBC photographer obtained images of Gudjohnsen making a visit to Asgård United's training ground. The shots, expected to enter circulation in tomorrows tabloids, clearly show the Offside Athletic star in a happy mood both upon his arrival and departure from the training ground.

In a press conference earier today, intended to reflect on the teams confident weekend display, manager Clough was quizzed about Gudjohnsen and had this to say: 'Although I'm not happy about this story being leaked so early into the season, I have little choice but to announce that after a long standing interest in the player, we have secured his services.'

Clough would not go into the details of the deal but it is widely believed that Gudjohnsen will come in as part of a trade deal seeing Roque Santa Cruz moving to Offside Athletic.

Clough Laments Slow Start

http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/1920/clough7vq.gif
Clough is looking for more from his team, with Diego looking set for first start of the season

Asgård United manager Brian Clough has publicly stated his frustration at his teams slow start the season. With two games played, last seasons third place team have only notched up a single point, having lost on the opening day and only drawing last weekend.

Talking to BBC Radio Five Live, Clough stated that although there was no crisis, there was certainly an air of disappointment. Clough is quoted as saying, "Being only two games into the season means there's not much to worry about really, but it's fair to say that we've made a pretty slow start to proceedings."

"We're certainly still in the title race, as are all the teams at this stage, but when you're a talented team gunning for promotion, letting points slip at any point in the season is a disappointment."

Asked to give a prelude to the next game, the Asgård manager had this to say, "Well we're preparing for a tough contest. Mat's side are no push overs but, that said, I think we have the quality to win the match. My squad depth is plentiful and all the guys are very eager to play and help get our first win of the season."

"In terms of individuals, Diego has been working extremely well lately. His recent form in the reserves [Werder Bremen] has been excellent. I think he's been the best player in the league, having already bagged half a dozen goals and a few assists. It's time that he steps up into the first XI and shows what he can do."

Asgård fans will no doubt have high expectations for the season ahead, and will be hoping for a morale boosting victory at the weekend.

Asgård in the Ascendency

http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/1015/diego860av.jpg
Diego has turned in excellent performances lately

Expectation is growing at Asgård Utd after last weekends comfortable 3-0 victory over fellow promotion chasers Rafa FC.

Last years third place team have struggled to convert possession and chances at times this season, but finally look to be joining the pace-setters at the top of the table.

Second half goals from Metzelder, Maxwell and Mido took the game away from Rafael Benitez's team, after a tough first half which produced few clear-cut chances on goal.

Asgård United lifted their game after the break, with young Brazilian star Diego proving particularly effective in slicing through Rafa's tough defence. The midfield play-maker assisted both Metzelder and Mido's goals.

After the game, manager Brian Clough praised his side saying "We've improved greatly over the last few weeks. We're confident we can keep doing so and with any luck, get ourselves into a promotion spot by the end of the season."

Transfer Gossip

http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/2793/christianwilhelmssonsp7.jpg
The Sweden and Galaxy FC star is reported to be joining Asgård Utd

According to the agent of Galaxy FC's Christian Wilhelmsson, the classy winger has been lured away from the high-flying division one club to division two promotion hopefuls, Asgård United.

Speaking in a radio interview on Tuesday, Fabio Alho stated "Christian is capable of playing in division one, but unfortunately hasn't settled at Galaxy. He has had a very good offer from a top division two side, and all three parties seem pleased."

It has been rumoured that Asgård midfielder Steven Pienaar is heading the other way.

Ferdinand is eager to play games

Talented young English centre back, Anton Ferdinand, has been linked with a move away from the Asgård Arena in the upcoming transfer window.

A report from SSN states, 'The defender knows he has a big future ahead of him and is desperate to find game time. Whether or not a move, either permanent or loan, will be sanctioned by the manager is yet to be seen. Brian Clough knows full well that he has a big talent in Ferdinand.'

Young Starlets Sign On

We're less than 48 hours into the current transfer window, but already Asgård United have captured two of the hottest young players around.

http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/9172/mariogomezgi4.jpg
Bundesliga top scorer, the highly rated Mario Gomez

Germany striker Mario Gomez, 21, is currently top scorer in the Bundesliga after enjoying an excellent season for Stuttgart thus far. He also marked his international début last month in perfect fashion, with a goal against Switzerland.

Former club Stuttgart stated that bids of less than £18m would not even be considered, however Asgård chief negotiator, David Dein, revealed that after several hours of gruelling negotiations, the German club had agreed to a mere £4.5m fee.

http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/4909/josesosajk3.jpg
Sosa has already been called up by Argentina

Jose Ernesto Sosa, also 21, again represents a considerable purchase for the Division 2 promotion chasers. The young midfielder, typically used on the right flank, was coveted by several top European clubs including Bayern Munchen, Valencia, AC Milan and Internazionale, but Asgård United successfully fended off all competition to land Sosa, who has already been called up to the Argentinian national side.

Speaking to Asgård Online TV, manager Brian Clough expressed his delight at the two signings. "It's always nice to get your targets, and when they're as talented and in demand as these guys, the feeling is even sweeter than usual."

"I see an immediate future for Gomez within the club, however will probably look to loan out Sosa for the rest of the campaign. There's no doubt in my mind that they will both be huge players for us in the coming years."

Jose Sosa expressed his delight at signing for Asgård, in an interview with Argentina's La Prensa newspaper. "I will never forget this weekend. One of my childhood dreams has come true."

It was the signing the Asgård fan base had been calling for since his loan spell last season. Yesterday marked the capture of the hugely talented Phillipe Senderos, Asgård United's prodigal son.

The young Swiss is currently on loan with Newton Heath FC, where his first team action has again been limited. The search for playing time is believed to have been the decisive factor to leave FL kings, Racing Club Avenido.

Speaking to BBC News, Senderos stated his delight at rejoining Asgård United. "I'm over the moon to be heading back to a club I have so many wonderful memories of. It's never easy to leave a great team like RCA, but I really feel that I'm moving into a better environment, where I can play more and help guide what is a very promising club towards glory."

Senderos and Asgård fans weren't the only satisfied voices to be heard, with Chairman Peter Hill-Wood adding to the jubilation. Hill-Wood is quoted on the SSN website as saying, "This signing sums Asgård United up; an unerring commitment to harnessing young talent of the highest order. Phillipe is in great company here."

Currently Serie A's third highest goal scorer.

As if further proof of Hill-Wood's assertion was needed, Asgård United have also captured the signature of 23 year old striker, Rolando Bianchi. The impressive young Italian is currently Serie A's third highest goal scorer, behind Francesco Totti and Luca Toni, having netted 14 times already this season.

Reggina were keen to hold onto their star front man, but were facing an uphill battle with reported interest from AC Milan amongst others. In another example of David Dein's extraordinary negotiating talent, Asgård United have succeeded in beating their rivals to sign another of the world's premier young talents.

At the end of a busy day, Brian Clough expressed his happiness in a brief interview with AOTV. "It's been a very productive weekend. Four wonderful young talents have signed on the dotted line, and I now look forward to working with them and developing their talent as best I can."

"Looking at our defence, I believe that in Senderos, Djourou and Dawson, we have three of the very best young players in the world. We're also building a very impressive strike force, with Gomez and Bianchi adding to an already impressive group."

"Let's not get carried away though. The rest of this season will be as bigger challenge as I've ever faced in football. The promotion battle is intense, and it's fair to say that all teams in our division have strengthened of late. But we now have what it takes to prosper even in the face of such threats."

Borowski on his way to Asgård United?

German World Cup star Tim Borowski's agent has hinted that his client is very interested in a move to Asgård United. The talented midfielder has spent the season on loan at AFC Chelsea from fellow D2 side FC Corleone. It now looks likely that Borowski will opt for a new challenge at the Asgård Arena.

Midfield dynamo is said to have undergone a medical at Asgård

Young midfielders Rio Mavuba and Sulley Ali Muntari have both been linked to a number of clubs of late, with Asgård United rumoured to be at the head of the list of suitors. If true, the capture of Mavuba, Muntari, and of course Borowski, would confirm the suspicions of some that Clough is set to revamp his midfield before the start of next season.

Burdisso has enjoyed a good season with Inter

Talented Argentine defender Nicolas Burdisso is said to be Brian Clough's primary defensive target as he aims to inject some experience and pace into the back line. The 26 year old centre back has been a key player for Inter Milan this season, winning the Scudetto for his efforts. He was also a member of Argentina's World Cup squad last summer, and looks set to continue his international career in an even greater capacity in the future.

Starlets Looking for a Chance to Shine

Two of Asgård United's newest sensations are likely to be loaned out for the coming campaign, reports from Asgård Online TV state. The Division Two club have always prided themselves on unearthing new talent in transfer windows, and the recent signings of Jose Sosa and Renato Augusto, certainly fit the bill.

A big part of Argentina and Asgård plans

Argentine midfielder Sosa, 21, caught the eye of Bayern Munich while playing for Estudiantes, but it was Asgård United that acquired his signature.

At home on the right hand side of midfield, the talented youngster has not only been capped at full international level but included in Argentina's squad for this summers Copa America.

Speaking in the online interview, Brian Clough had this to say: 'There's no doubt in my mind that he will soon become a huge part of Argentina's future, along with the likes of Messi, Mascherano and Tevez. It won't be long before he's being praised every bit as much as them.'

Heavily linked with Arsenal and Lyon

The younger of the two starlets is Renato Augusto, a 19 year old attacking midfielder, not dissimilar in style to Rivaldo. Several major European clubs have been linked with the young goal scoring playmaker, but again Asgård United captured his signature.

Speaking in Brazil's oldest daily sports paper, Jornal dos Sports, Augusto had this to say: 'I am very happy to have joined this club. I know I can have a very positive impact on the squad and am raring to play. If I must go out on loan first, that's fine - I don't believe it will be long before I am playing regularly'.

Brian Clough went on to say: 'I'll most likely look to loan these guys out to begin with, but I don't imagine it'll be too long before I want them back. I invite any interested parties to make offers, but urge them to be proactive: top talents like these won't hang around.'
