barry i feel that you use mantle piece in every other sentence these days and i have still yet to grab its exact meaning, especially in this context where you call this thread mantle piece which i thought was a good thing but then you say he already has a request thread, which would make this thread unnecessary.

please help me understand this term :)

maybe in the US you don't call them "mantle pieces" but here (and possibly in holland) it is the shelf above your fireplace where you put treasured ornaments. If a thread is "mantle piece" you are saying it's so valuable that you would display it in your front room on the shelf above your fireplace.
