View Full Version : The Official Eredivisie/Dutch Football Thread
Allright. Got your attention? Good.
I know our league is far from the best leagues, but I grew up with it and well, would like to inform you. I was gonna make an Ajax-thread, but then I figured Im probably the only Ajax-fan on here that posts regularly, so I might as well cover all Eredivisie football.
I wont bother you with the history of the teams, maybe Ill get some squadlists later, but for now Ill give updates on the results, fixtures, independent Team of The Week, and eventually Team of The Season and Players of The Season, and if you have questions about players/teams or other stuff, feel free to ask..
Dont worry, my Ajax-bias wont show through ;)

Nice post :D
I'm hoping AZ finally manage to win the title this season, though I doubt it. How is Castelen doing? I like him but was disappointed with his inability to run to the touchline with his blistering pace and cross the ball in the game against Italy. He seemed to prefer to cross from deep which didn't work out too well.
We'll start with that ;)
Well, seeing we are deemed chanceless for the title, Im hoping AZ could win it. They play the game like its supposed to be, lots of onetouch football and very attacking, Van Gaal is doing well. Feyenoord got kicked out of the UEFA Cup very fast, but they lack quality in their squad. PSV is strong and decent as usual, boring but effective.
Castelen. I doubt he'll be able to keep a place in the national team, because he lacks certain abilities. He's fast, technique is fine, but he lacks. He's currently injured, misses the clash with PSV this sunday and he'll be out till January or later. He's too inconsistent.

Don't Feyenoord use him in a front-two with Kuijt? Surely he'd be better as a right-sided winger where his main requirements would be pace (which he has tons of) and his ability to cross?
Somebody shoot Jefferson Farfan. He scored against Milan :realmad:

Nah, he usually plays right winger. Kuyt is partnered with Kalou, those two are untouchable and rightly so.
And yeah, Id love to shoot him. He dived against Ajax, and did it too last weekend. And there have been more causes known, he's scum. Talented scum, but I hate him so much for his dives. He doesnt need it.

Nice, I like Dutch football. I think this is good to create a "league thread" were you can discuss about that league instead of having all these separate club threads. Much as I like Ajax, it's nice to see Shota top the scorers. :)
PSV only have 9 goals against them? RKC Waalwijk got like half of them.
So Barry, how do you think Ajax will come back from there terrible start?
Rick Hoogendorp! I know that guy, he has been attracting Panathinaikos as a matter of fact. Real nice thread here Barry, Dutch football is exciting and contains two of the finest teams in Europe. PSV and ofcourse Ajax. Ajax and Panathinaikos are good friends actually, so that explains the Greeks at Ajax. How's Charisteas and Anastasiou doing at Ajax barry? Hope they are doing well, havent got much time to see them.
Anyway, i also support Ajax when it comes to Dutch football. Once again, good thread. I can be regularly updated about Ajax and their rising stars now, :). I also must add Nicolae Mitea of Ajax looks real promising, ill be having a good eye for him now that this thread has been made. Very good, ;)

Dutch football rocks, De Graafschap to win the second division and Ajax to win Premier!

Hmm, I reckon with all the quality, but bearing in mind the championship is far away, that we could go for 2nd or 3rd. This year we have play-offs, normally our 2nd place goes into CL Qualifiers but this year nrs. 1 2 3 4 5 and 6 will play eachother for that place.
Shit system, and timed totally wrong in a Worldcup season. So if we end 8th like we are now we dont have to play extra matches!Wahey!

Anastasiou is mainly used as supersub, did well in CL as you might have seen. Charisteas was out after the Arsenal match, but is back now, not fit yet though. Rosenberg is starting to get on form, so I doubt he'll be getting lots of playtime. Charisteas was also getting on form, but he got knocked out. Arsenal bastards ;)
Havent heard about Mitea lately, he's still out with a serious injury, dont know when he'll be back. Ill get back to you with that.
Ah yes, Panathinaikos and Ajax. 1971, great final. Especially the outcome ;) You chose the bad moment to shine though, Ajax was like the best team in the world back then. Would it have been a few years later, then you wouldve been remembered by even more.

Allright. Number one(currently PSV) automatically qualifies for the group stage of the CL.
Nrs 2,3,4,5,6 will, after the league is finished, play matches against eachother to determine who gets the spot in the CL qualifiers. Say the actual nr2 wins their playoffmatch, they go to the qualifiers. The other 4(could be 3, not sure) teams will go to the UEFA Cup
Last season the nr 2(ajax) was secured of a spot in the qualifiers, but they wanted to "spice" up things a bit, so they invented this.

Sounds like a stupid excuse to play too many games. The relegation/promotion play-off system you have is bad enough!

Yes, The team that finished 3rd deserves to go through in my opinion.
Good week for Dutch football, two teams in the next stage of the CL.
PSV got Fenerbahce at home, and finished it professionally.
Ajax was alread through, but drawed Arsenal 0-0 yesterday.
Not really exciting match, but I dont think anyone expected such.
This weekend its Feyenoord-PSV, a real clash, should be good. We better win, this is our chance to make up for lost ground.

Poor tackle from Hleb on Maduro, hopefully he recovers and misses one game at the very most.
Yesterday's game was awful from my perspective, but you guys had a full team out, so I didn't expect much.

I hope Feyenoord can see off PSV and AZ can win. I'm not a fan of Van Gaal but I'll put that aside for now.
In the play-offs number 7 to 9 also get a shot to go to the UEFA cup, I don't know how it exactly works but at least my team gets a shot to qualify for the UEFA cup :)

Is the second division still messed up? I know about three seasons ago a team could've finished 13th and, due to complicated play-offs, ended up getting promoted.
Yeah, they work with period titles. There are 4 periods, and if you finish on top in a period, you can have a shot at playoffs to promote as well.

Yes, that tackle looked awful. Hope it isnt anything serious. Was quite boring, yes, but I didnt have high expectations so I wasnt in for a shock.
Most likely is, that we'll draw either Villareal or Barcelona. PSV has the same odds as us on drawing them, but they could draw Liverpool or Arsenal just as easily.
Group Winners(Both PSV and Ajax will draw someone here)
Arsenal
Barcelona
Internazionale
Juventus
Liverpool
Olympique Lyon
AC Milan
Villarreal
NRS 2
Ajax
Bayern München
Benfica
Chelsea
Glasgow Rangers
Real Madrid
PSV
Werder Bremen
Ill have Villareal then, we'll get teared up by Barcelona I reckon.
Stella Artois

If you're to progress, you'd need to draw Villarreal, otherwise I see you going out.
Arsenal could do with Werder Bremen or Rangers.
Haha yeah, Im hoping for Villareal otherwise things could get ugly. I dont see us winning the CL, so we'll get knocked out sooner or later, we'll just delay execution ;)
Results of last weekend:

sc Heerenveen 3 - 3 Willem II
RKC Waalwijk 3 - 2 Sparta Rotterdam

We seemed to be playing 4-4-2  Thats ultimate blasphemy here at Ajax, although the trainer wouldnt admit it, saying we played 4-2-4. Maybe it worked ot different on the pitch, and players started doing their own thing, but it didnt look like 4-2-4.
Good to see Charisteas back after 2,5 months, there he is Nikos ;)
He scored a goal, also a goal by Galasek a penalty.
Feyenoord played good, dominated PSV mostly, and won deserved. AZ,PSV and Feyenoord now share the 1st place, all have 35 points. AZ is the real number 1, best goals against and goals scored.

What's wrong with 4-4-2? Arsenal have been playing it for donkey's years.
I'm glad Feyenoord beat PSV. Hopefully they have a little blip and it begins to open up a little more.
Michaels would be turning in his grave
He probably would, I dont fully agree with this turn to 442 either(or 424, as Blind saw it). Maybe its in order to get some results in, to get some selfconfidence, but its our clubculture. Nothing more beautiful than a perfect 4-3-3 ;)
Nothing wrong with 4-4-2, but its just not us.

Let's hope they don't collapse late in this season as in the past two.
Feyenoord is out of the UEFA Cup already, which could work in their advantage. AZ is still in it, and PSV and Ajax are still in the CL. Only problem is, I dont know if Feyenoord has enough quality in their squad.
Sure, they've got Kalou and Kuyt, undisputably their best players, but they miss quality replacements. Their first team is decent, but their subs; tut tut.
If Ajax cant be champions this season, then I want AZ to be it. But as you say Sweey, I dont know if they can cope with a long season. Hope they do have the long breath, a champion outside of the usual top 3 could cause some uproars.
The current stance in points:
AZ 15 35
Feyenoord 15 35
PSV 15 35
NEC 15 27
RKC Waalwijk 15 26
Ajax 15 24
Vitesse 15 23
FC Groningen 15 23
sc Heerenveen 15 22
FC Utrecht 14 21
NAC Breda 15 19
FC Twente 15 17
Roda JC 15 16
ADO Den Haag 15 15
Heracles Almelo 15 15
Sparta Rotterdam 15 12
Willem II 14 9
RBC Roosendaal 15 4
First row is matches played, 2nd one is total points. Remarkable: Willem II is doing very bad, and NEC seems to have a very good season. Ajax went up one spot by beating Vitesse.
Topscorers:
Arveladze, Shota 13
Huntelaar, Klaas Jan 12 +2
Kuijt, Dirk 11 +1
Hoogendorp, Rick 11 +1
Farfán, Jefferson 9
Perez, Kenneth 8
My Team(or partial team) of the Week:
Attack:
Huntelaar ( heerenveen)
Kuyt
Kalou (Both Feyenoord)
Midfield:
Simons (PSV)
Huysegems ( AZ)
De Guzman ( Feyenoord)
Well, those really jumped out for me.
Something else: Apparently we(Ajax) are after attacker Lucas Lobos from the Argentinan club Gimnasia. At least, thats what their chairman says.
Quick ones: Zoetbier-2nd goalkeeper of PSV is going to leave PSV;Chelsea was looking at Ismail Aisatti, Alex and Jefferson Farfan from PSV according to a large Dutch newspaper; Man Utd wants Nigel De Jong from Ajax fast, apparently for 1 million euro's next month/

What could work in their favour this season is Van Gaal. He's won the title before, Aadrianse never had so maybe the team will iron out their problems with consistency.
^Small Update:
Heerenveen advances to the next round of the UEFA Cup, by beating....uhh...welll...well they beat em 2-1.
AZ also won their UEFA Cup match against Grasshoppers FC 1-0. They were already through, just battled for the first position with Middlesbrough. They have come in 2nd place, thus thye will meet someone from the ex-CL first round contestors.
Programme next round
FRIdAY:
Sparta Rotterdam -Vitesse
SATURDAY:
PSV -Willem II
sc Heerenveen- FC Twente
RBC Roosendaal -Roda JC
SUNDAY:
ADO Den Haag-Feyenoord
NAC Breda -Ajax
AZ -RKC Waalwijk
Heracles Almelo-FC Utrecht
FC Groningen-NEC
And yeah, maybe Van Gaal was the missing link last season, he has bought excellent players this season, and they have a great squad for rotation as well if the need to resort to that.
First few results are in.
Sparta Rotterdam -Vitesse 1-0
SATURDAY:
PSV -Willem II 4-1
sc Heerenveen- FC Twente 3-1
RBC Roosendaal -Roda JC 0-2
SUNDAY:
ADO Den Haag-Feyenoord 2-1, I REPEAT 2-1
Otjer matches are still in progress, like NAC - Ajax(currently 0-1, Rosenberg) , AZ-RKC (currently 2-0, Huysegems and De Zeeuw). Also Groninge-NEC 1-0 and Heracles Almelo-Utrecht FC 0-1.
10 minutes into the 2nd half, currently. Hope we can make that 2nd goal as fast as possible, to rule out any NAC comeback.

I saw that Feyenoord defeat earlier. It seems like the typical sort of thing they do during the season, the way in which they ruin their title challenge.
ADO got a penalty in the 1st minute, some guy touched the ball wiht his hand. They never really had any chances, after that. Couldnt tell who was better, Kalou made it 1-1 and then an ADO defender headed the ball into the net.
Shit happens maybe, I just think they arent ready to win anything yet.

Feyenoord 2 (Paauwe 3, Guzman 8) Alkmaar 0 :crymore:
PSV playing at NEC later, as are Roosendaal at Twente Enschede

RKC was 2 goals ahead on Heerenveen, but then came Huntelaar, the new Ajax striker and scored 2 times. He did the same thing against Willem 2. The score was 3-0, but then Huntelaar scored 3 times.
Ajax 3-2 Groningen. Charisteas was involved in all three goals. He crossed the ball in for Rosenberg for the first goal, number two was a great piece of skill by Rosales (I think), to cross in for Charisteas to tap in. Third goal came from Charisteas, a rebounded header to make it 3-0. Groningen though, hit two late goals in the final 10 minutes to make the final score 3-2. Ajax, still fourth, and are on a four-game winning streak. :)

It's official: Huntelaar is going to Ajax.
Sorry for the updates, or the lack thereof, but I was and am still busy. Today and yesterday there were/are matches , most noteable was PSV-Twente 1-1, and Feyenoord-Willem II 6-1.
AZ's match got cancelled because of a bad pitch, also Ajax plays Heerenveen at Heerenveen, which will be Huntelaar's last match in their service, before moving to us ;)
PSV is champion of this year, leading with 4 points before AZ, but AZ still has one fixture less due to the earlier mentioned cancel.
Ron Vlaar from AZ to Feyenoord.
Huntelaar from Heerenveen to Ajax.
Tanghe from Utrecht to Heracles.
Galasek will probably sign a new contract with Ajax.
Ton Lokhoff(NAC coach) is fired after bad results.
De Guzman signs a renewed contract with Feyenoord.
All matches I think I missed, here are the results:
30/12/2005 Heracles Almelo Vitesse 0-0
30/12/2005 Roda JC FC Groningen 0-0
30/12/2005 SC Heerenveen Ajax 0-0

Whoah. Did you really feel the need to say that out loud?
Worst was, our last goal was a dive by Juanfran which we got a penalty out of, and Bosvelt got a red card because he rightly complained.

Luckily you're still fourth but Heerenveen, Utrecht and Groningen look ready to pounce if you slip up again.
Any news on when the Alkmaar-Den Haag and Sparta-NEC games will be played?
No news on it yet, maybe today or tomorrow.
Hope we get ourselves together, cant afford to slip up again with Heerenveen and Groningen breathing in our neck.
Our program after our very short winter break:
wo 11/1 Willem II - Heracles Almelo 20.00
11/1 NAC Breda - RKC Waalwijk 20.00
13/1 FC Groningen - SC Heerenveen
14/1 Heracles Almelo - AZ
14/1 RKC Waalwijk - RBC Roosendaal
14/1 NAC Breda - Roda JC
15/1 Sparta Rotterdam - PSV
15/1 Willem II - FC Twente
15/1 ADO Den Haag - FC Utrecht
15/1 Ajax - NEC
15/1 Vitesse - Feyenoord
Not to keen on NEC, last time we lost to them away. I hope we can beat them, probably the first fixture with Huntelaar playing, looking forward.
Ajax is going down this season :(,
De Jong, Pienaar, Trabelsi and Maxwell want to leave,
Escude, Lobont and Charisteas have to leave.
And who comes back for it? Some peasant from Heereveen called Huntelaar. Such players only do well at small teams like Heereveen, renember Machlas? Same story. Ajax had the opertunity to take on Kluivert but they refused 'cause they got Huntelaar. Ajax is making allot of wrong descissions.
Thank god a couple of young players are breaking through like Sarpong and Yildrim.

That Juanfran is seriously one of the worst players ever.

I for one think Huntelaar is a very good signing, knows our system,he's young and very, very talented. Plus he can score goals. He's down to earth, not something seen a lot in Amsterdam ;)
Cheers for the table Rapidox.
Juanfran isnt bad, he has something we Dutch lack(just leap the ball out of the stadium if in danger) but he certainly has to reconsider before making another dive.

Isn't it a blessing in disguise if Ajax turned down the chance to have Kluivert back? He's far too up himself and would disrupt any harmony being built.

Ajax have a great squad. I remember they used to be wicked in CM4.

It is, Kluivert had so much potential, but he carefully fucked it up by not living for his sport. Such a waste. He could have had it so much better. I dont want him in our squad, he's always imjured.
Maybe you should cut on going out, Patrick? Then people might take you seriously.
Time will tell if Huntelaar was a good choice of Ajax, I still believe Kluivert would be a better choice, look at Davids, they said the same thing about him and now he's doing so well at Tottenham.

Different characters. One realised he needed to behave, one didn't/hasn't...at least yet.
Different type of player, totally different type of mentality. Davids is a real professional.
Time will tell, indeed. But Kluivert? I doubt that would've been a good choice.
I have been a keen admirer, very keen admirer of Kluivert, and honestly, was the man that made me love football so much. During Euro 2000, i would idolize him as i loved him so much and the way he plays, his goals etc, even at Barca and Newcastle. I really enjoyed his game. But moving to Valencia, i haven't seen him play too much now, and most people are talking about his attitude, something wrong with him lately?
I believe he has changed, I've read some articles about him, some interviews with him and people around him. I'm just hoping he'll get the opertunity to shine once again.

He's very stylish in the way he plays, I used to love seeing him play too. He used to be an Ajax player pur sang. He just isnt a real professional, if he had gotten all there was in his pool of talent, he'd be worldclass.
He could have.

Something different>: FC Groningen have a new stadium, called Euroborg and they've played their first match in it, just a friendly against Veendam. 5-0 win, for those interested. Anyway, some pics of this gorgeous stadium:

Yep, that's a nice looking stadium
Bad news; Barry van Galen quits after this season. Shame, he was a genius on the pitch. Think of Bergkamp, his genius touches, only a bit less. He also had a temper, which resulted in lots of red cards in his career. Once again, shame. The Eredivisie will lose an exciting player :(
Oh, and Ajax is playing a friendly tonight I believe, against FC Haarlem.

Arsenal face competition if they decide to make a bid for Heerenveen's highly-rated striker Georgios Samaras.
Reports claim Arsenal are to sign the 20-year-old and Heerenveen team manager Joop Heida confirmed Arsenal had watched the Greek forward.
But he told BBC Sport: "Arsenal are not the only club interested in Georgios.
"He will not be going in January. If he goes it will be at the end of the season. In the summer we can look and see what is best for him."
Samaras has helped the club to the last 32 of the Uefa Cup and to fifth place in the Dutch league.
But they have already sold top scorer Klaas Jan Huntelaar to Dutch rivals Ajax in the transfer window and Heida has insisted that no more players will be leaving in January.
The 6ft 3in Samaras is under contract with Heerenveen until 2008 but Arsenal are said to be leading the way to sign him for a reported fee of £3.75m.
Heida added: "Everybody is for sale but that is not enough for Georgios Samaras. I think it would be much more.
"They have made no bid but scouts from Arsenal have watched games here in Holland but I don't know exactly what their interest is."

Barry, you know anything about Christophe Kinet? cos I remember him at Millwall and I thought he was more or less their best player and have just seen on the sky sports website that he's joining a Belgian side called SV Roeselare from Dutch side Sparta (Rotterdam?). You know if he was any good in the Dutch leagues?
Link to story here: http://home.skysports.com/transfernews.asp?type=article&id=352399
Never seen him whats he like?
A real showboater.Sometimes I get the feeling he goes for the dribble too much, rather than passing it. Great technique, good header, still young. He often tries to pull off the tricks rather than scoring. A roughly edged diamond.

Aye Michael, used to be very good for them. Seems like the current trainer isnt too fond of him, he was a big part in the promotion like the article says. Didnt see him yet this season.
Never seen him whats he like?
Believe it or not, i was going to talk about Samaras and his current form at Heerenveen. Like Barry says, he does dribble a lot. But with his height, he could be deadly you know. I would rate him someone like Charisteas, only quicker and dribbles more. I think i'd love it if he was at Arsenal, that would be great. :)
Julien Escude moves from Ajax to Sevilla, 1.5 million euro's and 3 and a half years. Blind wants fast, tough defenders and he doesnt fit the profile.

18-01-2006, 15:21
Farfan is pretty good but is still young so he has to learn many things. PSV got also other good young players; like Aissati and Affalay.
Talking about youngsters...
finally Feyenoord seems to try out some new youngsters; like Biseswar, de Guzman and Drenthe...
This Canadian kid de Guzman is really the new star; scoring already a few important goals and probably (hopefully ;) )many more to come.
Ajax always had good young players but at this moment it looks like they have too build their team first, altough there are young players like de Jong, Vermaelen, Babel, Sneijder, Huntelaar already in the squad.
Aye, plus Feyenoord stole Evander Sno from us (;)), and he's very good) and I think he'll make his debute soon enough.
Feyenoord looks good with talents this year, I have to give them credit for that.

Hm Alkmaar lead Den Haag 1-0 after 25 minutes....Landzaat scored after five minutes, and Opdam seemed to think the points were in the bag so got himself sent off a minute later just to give Den Haag some hope.
Come on the alphabet boys!
Yeah, they won 3-1 although ADO had all the chances but they cant score to save their lives. Well done by AZ, I guess. AZ is on the same height of pointstotal as Feyenoord, both only behind PSV, who has 1 point more.
Sparta-NEC 1-3
NEC still keeping up their good form, 3 goals by Polish striker Andrzej Niedzielan, who saw a 4th goal caught offside. NEC shares the 6th place with Ajax(:tumble:) and RKC, and Sparta is put in the 16th position.

Brilliant stuff from Ajax just now!
Playing at Twente Enschede, N'Kufo had put the home side ahead in the firstl-half. Ajax equalised early in the second through Rosenboerg (no, not Trondheim) only for N'Kufo to put FC Twente 2-1 ahead a minute later. Ajax, looking set for another defeat, then hit twice in the last two minutes (Maduro 89, Emanuelson 90) to snatch a 3-2 win. Barry will be happy ;)
Meanwhile, Fiorentina have signed Romanian goalkeeper Bogdan Lobont from Ajax on a five-year contract. The transfer fee is believed to be around £1m.
I was footballing myself when Ajax was playing, Im very happy indeed though.
All the results are in:
AZ -ADO Den Haag 3 - 1
Sparta Rotterdam -NEC 1 - 3
PSV -RKC Waalwijk 2 - 0
Vitesse -Willem II 2 - 1
RBC Roosendaal-Heracles Almelo 1 - 2
sc Heerenveen-Sparta Rotterdam 0 - 0
AZ-FC Groningen 1 - 1
NEC -ADO Den Haag 5 - 0
FC Twente-Ajax 2 - 3
FC Utrecht-NAC Breda 2 - 2
Feyenoord-Roda JC 0 - 0
From Wednesday to today, some fixtures were cancelled earlier in the season and they were being played now. David Jones(Michael? ;) )scored 2 goals for NEC, he's on loan from Man Yoo, very good for him and NEC.
AZ surprisingly didnt beat Groningen, who seemed very good at times.
Feyenoord and AZ both drew, so they fail to keep up with PSV(booooooooooooooooooooooorr rrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiinnnnnnnnnnng) who won and see the gap widen to 3 points.
Sorry for that, but they just are booooooooooooooooooooooorrrrrr rrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin nnnnnnnnnng
Van Hooydonk is back at Feyenoord! :shocking: :shocking: :shocking:
With things not working out at NAC, with the new coach benching him because he felt that Van Hooydonk was a bit to imposing for his teammates, which stiffened them on the pitch, it will be interesting to see how he will fare back at his old club where he left a legend, a few years ago.
Feyenoord already has one of the best attacking duos in todays game, though, with Kalou and Kuytt doing very well together. Van Hooydonk will probably replace Kuytt occasionally now, as Kalou is too good to bench, plus Hooydonk has the same kind of leader-qualities as Kuytt, so 2 leaders in the frontline might prove a bit too much. Anyway, we dont know for sure yet how it will turn out, but at least it's a very interesting development. I certainly hope that if/when Hooydonk does well, he might stay next season as well, cause Kuytt will probably leave at the end of this season, and Kalou might leave if our right-wing minister of immigration keeps rejecting to give him the Dutch nationality.
edit: signed for 1,5 season, so should be at teh club next season as well :)

and talking about Sno (youth player of Feyenoord) he s going to Everton as a trainee for a while. Feyenoord is finally doing something with their youngsters and using the right players.
Gibbs, Ostlund, Basto, are already too much for the squad... goodbye :)!!
Gibbs looked solid when he came on, Ostlund and Basto are just tools and I absolutely dont know why Feyenoord bought them.

I'm also more than a bit fed up of PSV. Alkmaar have started slipping, albeit slowly.

Pity AZ slipped up, but we should take this opportunity to gain on both AZ and Feyenoord. I have slightly good hopes, Feyenoord only won 1 match in 10 years at home against us.
2-1 at Half time, Hofs(21) and Castelen(45+1) for Feyenoord, and Rosenberg(23) for Ajax. Last time we beat them 3-2, two very late goals. Hoping for a replay of that

Tonight its AZ-Real Betis, AZ have to wash away a 2-0 to continue to the next round. They are having a bad phase, I dont see them getting Betis on their knees, the way they played last time was bad.

PSV sadly beat AZ, was quite a boring match to be honest......which was due to PSV who scored 2 goals very early, as AZ was only playing a 3 men defence at the start. You saw the match Sweey?

Welcome aboard to my humble thread
So, Holland-Ecuador finished 1-0, good goal by Kuyt but the first half was very bad. We didnt play RvN, Vd Vaart and Sneijder werent there, same with van Persie and Boulahrouz; but still. Meerdink,Boateng,Jaliens are nice players, but in no way will they go in our WC Squad.
The players Van Basten absolutely has to bring to Germany: Van Nistelrooy,Makaay,Van Der Vaart, Robben,Van Persie,Van Der Sar, Boulahrouz,Mathijsen, Sneijder,Kuyt and if Kalou gets a passport he is guaranteed a place.
Barry, Huntelaar looks to be having a great future ahead of him, how old is he? And has he been already scouted by other European clubs for a possible summer transfer? I hope not though, Ajax has a very rich history and deserves players with awesome talents!
@Sweey, dude, you mind making a table like that for my Ligue 1 thread? I badly need one, please let me know,.

He's 22 years old, love how he gave those Inter bastard defenders a hard time
I sure do hope we dont lose him after one season, I doubt we'll sell him this season or next, but I do believe some clubs will take interest when he keeps performing.

, I was actually surprised when I heard Ajax were leading 2-0, but in a good way, and to see Huntelaar scoring that magnificent header, it was a joy to watch.
Yeah, hopefully he stays at Ajax, I think he fits in there perfectly. Jan Klaas Huntelaar, I love that name! Hehe. Anyway, I'm loving the Holland kits, and they look so good in PES5, have you tried them? I just need to know though, who are the starting 11 of Holland? It's weird, I still play Stam, Kluivert and Zenden (I'm sure they aren't included right?), I hope you can provide me the first 11 of Holland, is that possible Barry boy?

Ok, I will, thanks a lot Sweey! :D
Italy had a fantastic result in their friendly fixture against Germany, do you think they will play like this come the World Cup?
Despite his poor goalscoring record for Holland?
Yes, I think we should take him. We dont play the right system for him to fully fit in, but he should be in at all times. He can break open a dead match with a goal every time, plus he knows the stadiums and in case we play Germany...;)

Zenden,Kluivert and Stam are out, Stam quitted and Zenden and Kluivert havent been in the squad for a long time.
When everybody is fit, I expect the starting 11 to be like this:
GK Van Der Sar
RB Kromkamp? Not sure about this one, maybe even De Jong
CB Barry Opdam or Joris Mathijssen
CB Khalid Boulahrouz
LB Giovanni van Bronckhorst
AMF Van Der Vaart
DMF/CMF Maduro/Landzaat
CMF Cocu/Sneijder/Van Bommel
LWF Robben *
RWF Van Persie *
CF Van Nistelrooy
Robben and Van Persie could be switched.

Taken from http://www.pesinsight.com/showthread.php?t=34930:
Pb, good results recently and VERY happy with this one, but...when it comes to the World Cup, will we attack like this? If so, will we continue to do so if we go 1-0 down or panic and go back to the our old ways, sitting back looking to hit on the break not only for the rest of that game, but for pretty much the rest of the tournament?
That's a whole new squad from the one I'm playing, excellent, thanks a lot Barry. Oh, just incase, is Huntelaar in the Holland squad in the bench? Or is it Kuyt and Makaay?
No problems
Húntelaar isnt in the squad yet, Kuyt is on the bench though. When Van Persie or Robben isnt there, Kuyt plays.
Makaay doesnt always get a place in the squad.
Fresh from the press: PSV goalkeeper Gomes; PSV received interest from Tochaman!'s favourite club Corinthains. PSV wants to offer a new contract, Gomes doesnt mind going if both clubs agree.....which I doubt. I mean, shouldnt he just stay in Europe?

Yep, he does, and he's doing very well there too.
Feyenoord beat Utrecht earlier today, 3-0. Two goals by Kalou and 1 by Kuyt(he has really outgrown the Eredivisie, its not the question if he leaves, more where he will go).
Ajax are 2-0 up at Sparta Rotterdam. Two goals by Boukhari; I need to lie down and get an icepack
6-0! Huntelaar 3x, Boukhari 2x and Vermaelen 1x, and Rosenberg was the provider 2x :D
Oh and Sparta missed a penalty.

Allright cheers again Sweey, we should have won that PSV match, overall we had the better of the play but Gomes was playing superb. Feyenoord was superior, yet failed to score the goals plus RKC's keeper had a superb match.
AZ(nr 3) is struggling, Willem II(nr 17) actually dominated most of the game but like Feyenoord they struggled too.
Utrecht is doing good business, one of their rivals for the 5th place lost and they beat the other rival Heerenveen 2-0.
Really outstanding performances by Gomes, Van Dijk(RKC),Hersi(Vitesse) this week.

Barry, are Alkmaar suffering from the same problems they encountered late in the last two seasons?
You could say that yes, they are seeking form desperately. I cant see us catching them up to be honest, but if they continue to win they might bring Feyenoord down, seeing as Feyenoord only has a 2 point lead. I dont think PSV will be catched before the end, so the battle around the 2nd place will be interesting.
Not that it really matters since they invented the playoffs.
*looks away disgusted*
The nr 2 will play the nr 5, while the nrs 3 and 4 play eachother first. Then the winners and the losers of those 2 matches will face eachother, I dont exactly know who faces what/how and why, but when I do found out I'll let you know.

Doesn't it make a complete farce of finishing second? I was kidding earlier this week but given a big slice of luck, Groningen could quite literally be in the CL (despite finishing upwards of 20 points behind the runners-up) and they'll get mauled if they qualify.
Exactly. Its a ridiculous idea, they suddenly decided to make things more interesting and invented this...thing called play-offs. Words reach my ear that some guy in the PSV board came up with the original idea.
Ironic, they arent exactly doing their best by playing boring football and generally uninteresting games.

They dont have to score, but any draw higher than 2-2 and we go through.
The teams shared four goals last time
Last eight entices Inter and Ajax
The lineup for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals will be confirmed tomorrow night with FC Internazionale Milano and AFC Ajax battling for the final place on offer.
Win wanted
As hosts at the San Siro, Inter would appear to have the slight advantage after earning a 2-2 draw from the first leg in Amsterdam on 22 February. As such, a 0-0 or 1-1 scoreline would be enough to send the Italian club through on away goals to a last-eight meeting with Villarreal CF. However, Inter coach Roberto Mancini is guarding against complacency. "We can't afford to think about a draw," he said. "That would be far too risky. This is a game we have to try to win."
Defence key
Ajax coach Danny Blind has cautioned his team against giving Inter the kind of space that allowed them to come back from a two-goal half-time deficit three weeks ago. "Italian sides always give you the idea you can play your own game, but also dictate how far you can go," Blind said. "We will have some chances in Milan but have to be aware that we must keep our lines close to each other. That was what went wrong in the second half at home."

I'm so glad Adriano missed that penalty. I'm tired of people going on about how good he is when he plays like he has lately, with his confidence at rock-bottom and looking nothing like the deadly finisher he does when he's on form.
Trabelsi was good last night, as was Babel when he came on, but Ajax didn't really create enough in attack. I didn't watch much of the game though as I didn't get home until 9pm.
Yes, Adriano was very disappointing. Selfish, inaccurate in both passing and control and in no way the killer he could be. The penalty was just the icing.
And I agree, we created fuck all. Huntelaar didnt stand a chance, and the crosses from the side were bad. We should have took full advantage of Inter's worst player, Wome.

Hmm, I can only agree half. While we arent known for boring football, we are known for winning and since the attractive part is lacking somewhat, I dont really care. I would be mad if we played like PSV all season though, despite winning this and that.

PSV-AZ 2-0
Ajax-Roda JC 4-1
First off, AZ. PSV bored them to death with their football and eventually scored 2 lousy goals :ninja: Allright, that's too easy.
Then Ajax. We had the better edge, but Roda managed to score a goal due to a Maduro slip-up, so we brought in 2 extra forwards and scored, totally German style, a goal in the 94th minute......by legend Huntelaar. Go see it folks, its a cracker first class.
Then Roda was totally broken, two assists by Charisteas, 2 goals by Babel and another one by the Hunter finished them off.
To be honest, Roda didnt deserve such a bad beat-up, their defence was wonderful all throughout the match as well.
Ooh, Daz the master predictor.
Vitesse 3 - 1 Sparta Rotterdam
Roda JC 5 - 1 RBC Roosendaal
FC Twente 1 - 2 sc Heerenveen
Willem II 0 - 3 PSV
NEC 2 - 2 FC Groningen
FC Utrecht 1 - 0 Heracles Almelo
RKC Waalwijk 0 - 1 AZ
Feyenoord 0 - 2 ADO Den Haag
Ajax 1 - 1 NAC Breda
I cant really feel bad about the 1-1, it was totally deserved. After a quick goal by(Who else?) Huntelaar, we had some chances but in the 2nd half it was just a downwards spiral. NAC got the better hand, and the deserved goal by Mendes Da Silva, who ironically used to play for us. And what a goal; about 20 metres outside of the box, on the right side, with a blaster inside the right top corner.
PSV got a simple victory, Feyenoord got beaten by ADO Den Haag(!), which was completely deserved.
News:
Hiddink will leave after this season, and Erwin Koeman just signed a new contract with Feyenoord, leaving him there until 2009.
Most prominent to follow up Hiddin-gu:
Ronald Koeman (Benfica), Bert van Marwijk (Borussia Dortmund), Huub Stevens (Roda JC), Martin Jol (Tottenham Hotspur), Co Adriaanse (FC Porto) and Henk ten Cate (FC Barcelona). And an undisclosed prominent foreign trainer(?).
I really dont know who it will be, but Huub Stevens could be the one.
Ajax-AZ Alkmaar on Sunday, any predictions by you masterpredictors? :ninja:
Keep in mind the current standings(AZ 2nd,Ajax euh...very low  ), and the fact that AZ hasnt won at the Arena for over 20 years.

AZ got lucky with Feyenoord only drawing at Heerenveen last night. They can lose at Ajax and still stay in firm control of second place.
Barry, if Ajax fail to win this match, do you worry they might fail to finish in the top five? Heerenveen are dropping points, but Groningen and Utrecht aren't being quite so charitable.

Barry, I have a question for you.
As you may or may not know, AZ are known as 'AZ Almaar'. Doesn't AZ stand for Alkmaar Zaanstreek. In other words, when we say AZ Alkmaar, we are really saying Alkmaar Zaanstreek Alkmaar?
Utrecht seems good lately, and Groningen is very good at home, but a bit inconsistent away from home. We'd better win, ending up even lower than 5th is a disgrace.
Feyenoord wasnt too good last night, but they were better than Feyenoord. AZ can afford to lose, we can't. Good news is that Sneijder is back from injury, but he can only play for about 20 minutes so Blind(I really don't doubt that's his real name anymore) will probably bench him.

Yes, but when you just say AZ people may get confused, as it being the first and last letter of the alfabet

Barry, any updates on how David Jones is doing at NEC? :)
He's really talented, he really adds to NEC. One of their strikers is fast and very strong, not a very good shot and the other is just very inconsistent. There's some talents out the NEC academy, but they aren't anywhere near Jones.
He has vision, a great shot and even a nice freekick. I hope the Eredivisie can keep him longer, but I understand if Man Yoo wants him back.

Yeah, apparently he wants to be at Man U for next season as he wants to break into the first team, and I wouldn't be surprised if he does (and I hope he does) as from what I've seen, and from how you say he's doing at NEC, he could be a very good player for the future.
PSV are crowned champion, as they shared a point with Groningen(who could have won). Well, what can I say? I guess congratulations *grumbles*
I think PSV redefined what football is all about; not entertainment(the so called "Let's not entertain the crowds, for they might come back!" tactics, copyright to Guus Hiddink, can not, in any way, be called entertainment) but they show the quality that is winning, winning and winning. Which I respect, in a whole different way. Anyway, congrats anyway( And may Alex,Farfan,Cocu and Gomes leave as soon as possible ;) ).
Ajax-AZ 1-0 ( Yay, not that we were better but its about the result isnt it?(See above ;) )
Vitesse-Utrecht 1-0 ( Good result for us, as Utrecht is still above us)
FC Twente-ADO Den Haag 2-0( Deserved, Twente needed many chances though)
Roda JC - Willem II 2-2
Guus Hiddink to be announced as new Russia coach. They are now trying to figure out some small details, but Hiddink himself said he chose Russia. He will sign a contract until 2008, with an option for 2 more years.
One of Holland's most succesful coaches ever; make us proud ;)
Hope he leaves his boring football patterns home though ;)

Final matches are tomorrow afternoon.
Yup, and then......*drums in the back*....the play offs! *guitar riff*
Woop woop! We need 1 point from RKC to secure a place above 5th, the odds are good as Emanuelson and Pienaar return from injuries.
News:
AZ have given Ajax' technical director Van Geel a 5 year stadium ban. Van Geel used to be TD at AZ, then switched to Ajax this summer, AZ accuses him of using his knowledge of players and their contracts for shady transfers. Van Gaal(AZ-trainer) thinks it's ridiculous, Kesler of the KNVB(Dutch FA) thinks it's ridiculous.
The KNVB now threathens to give AZ chairman Scheringa(who is to blame for this ridicule) a stadium ban for all stadiums.

Nice win by PSV,AZ,Ajax and Willem II. Utrecht threw away a chance to join in on the CL play-offs while they had it in their own hands.
So for the play-offs this means:
Ajax - Feyenoord
AZ - Groningen
Also, our new kit for away matches it seems!

1. Romano Denneboom 164 punten
2. David Jones 134 punten
3. Jeffrey Leiwakabessy 132 punten
You are right! Not sure why Denneboom is top of the list though.
