REF Dermot Gallagher has been demoted after a four-letter ear-bashing from Arsene Wenger.
The Arsenal boss swore at Gallagher in the tunnel following the 1-0 defeat at Newcastle on Saturday.

Hmm. Has anyone read the entire story and know exactly what's going on? It's true to say the sending off of Gilberto was a bad decision, but why would he be demoted over just that?

I can think of much worse ref's...e.g. Mr Uriah Rennie.

I've always seen Dermot as a rubbish ref and am glad to see he has finally been demoted :) Uriah Rennie is probably much worse, but I think he has been promoted and demoted several times already, so it's only a matter of time before he goes down again.

Steve Bennett is crap. Come to think of it, I fail to think of a ref I do like.

I forgot about him, now there is a ref in need of demotion. He never lets the game flow and is always way too quick in bringing out his cards. The only ref I don't mind is Howard Webb, and to be honest Rob Styles wasn't too bad at Man U v Everton on the weekend.

Isn't this his last season as a ref, if so it's a bit mean of the FA to demote him in his final year for one mistake just because Wenger swore at him but still I suppose it was a honker and they like to make an example in high profile cases, even if it does lead to other refs feeling more pressure incase they make a bad decision.

You can't keep him on purely for sentimental reasons if he's performing badly. ;)

so true about that geezer..he never lets he game go on naturally hes a trigger happy....barndish cards left-right and centre....should demote him for sure....
speaking abou Refs i thought Pierluigi Colina was going to officiate in th EPL because its the only league that let refs over (a certain age, dont know when) officiate and h eis too old for the serie A

That Mark Clattenburg (spelling) is a good ref. I think the best ref in the prem is Graham Poll.

I used to think Colina was class. But the incident with the dissallowed goal for Everton vs Villareal looked dodgy to say the least.

As soon as a ref makes one bad high profile decision he is automatically hated for the next few years. Everyone is way too harsh with the refs who do that. On the other hand, there are refs who I dislike. Rob Styles mainly.

The best refs in the Premiership have already been mentioned- Howard Webb and Mark Clattenburg.

All of the Refs seem to make a mistakes due to there poor standards. Styles is probably one of the worst refs ive ever seen. That one ref who sent off Riggot on sat is also rubbish, i can't stand that bloke. Then Poll is a waste of time, he seems to have some special relationship with Henry where hes the only player whos allowed to take quick freekicks...

I don't know if this has been said but he hasn't actually been demoted. He's refereeing a Doncaster match since it's his last year and he wants to "fill in the gaps".
