The new grappling system looks promising so there won't be as much button bashing (hopefully).

The story mode also looks like a lot of work has gone into that, I'll be back after work for more discussion. I thought I was one of few...so many great additions, bra and panties matches, elimination chamber (great for multiplayer), GOLDBERG :D

new roster! Goldberg, Orton and Cena have been my favourite superstars for months!

New match type's seem promising, although i'm sceptical about elimination chamber, dont know how well it will transfer to game (hanging around waiting for next person etc...)

game should be amazing though, certainly looks it. Graphically it will take some beating. hope gameplay is as good as smackdown 4. Just being able to pick up and play is cool.

I always enjoyed S'down 4's career mode, it had the right amount of action and story, but the loading tims when people went to speak was annoying. Any idea how much Career has been changed??? should be good still, as long as the depth is still there!

To be honest i think Raw 2 (from the ten minutes i could bare to play it) had an excellent story mode. if smackdown's is like that it would be cool, although Raw's wil take some beating even though i dont like the game! All i want from THQ, and Jukes, And Smackdown 6 (a little ahead of myself but bare with me) is a remake of N64's NO MERCY. without doubt the most playable, excellently made Wrestling Game EVER. PERIOD!!!!!!!!!! i just thinnk transfering it on to a dvd disc would give it limitless potential!!

did anyone play def jam vendetta? that was a complete rip off of No Mercy (as in the exact same game minus modes and characters), but it got my hopes up cos it shows it could be done!!!!!

Rip-off? Aki (the developers of the No Mercy engine) worked in collabaration with EA Sports Canada to add some minor tweaks to the engine, for DJV.

www.videogames.com and www.ign.com have already reviewied it!! "videogames" gave it a 9 and said its tha best wrestling game this year, it would have a got a much betta result but the sound got a 7 :(

Yeah they took out the commentary, I know it wasn't all that great...but I kind of liked it and would have preferred if they put some effort into improving rather then just taking it out.

Story mode is looking promising now, you don't have to run around the place like a headless chicken, it now works from a menu system. IGN (see sheringham316 post) have done a great review packed with info.

Rosters are also lacking a bit, a few guys and girls missing. So I'm wondering if it would have been better whacking in the 12 or so of the missing superstars instead of trying to attract the guys who prefer 'legends of wrestling' which is clearly what they are trying to do.

Saying that from what I've read the additions made will no doubt over shadow this minor issues, and we can all look forward to a great game. 12 days and counting, less if you are importing. ;)

hmmm what wrestlers do u think r missin and that should be put in. I think havin tha legends will be decent. They had um in "no mercy" which all the wrestling games r trying to be like but with betta wrestling involved. That game was very technical just like all the new wrestling games. Not only that but they've bought tha point thing back where u have to earn ya points to buy shit. EXACTLY THE SAME AS NO MERCY!! :eek:

no mercy had a good idea but tha gameplay was very dodgey, hopefully smackdwon will be tha game which all wrestling games should have been like!!

I gave it a bit of thought today when I jogging...I don't mind legends but for me the game is either current or if it is going to have classics bring a whole lot into play. 11 legends is not much and it leaves me thinking why did they put them in? Especially without say Hogan or the Warrior.

Roster wise imo I think the following should have been in...

Bradshaw, Farooq, Maven, Shane o mac, Scotty 2 Hotty, Mark Henry, Molly Holly :p, Spike Dudley, Billy Kidman, possibly the Bashams and Zach Gowen :D.

Even though it sounds like I'm being petty I'm still very much looking forward to this game, dare I say more then I was looking forward to PES3 :eek:

I only really just found out that Billy Kidman, Bradshaw, Farroq, Shane and Spike aint in there. Well there wrestlers who i would have expected to be in there!!.

I was thinkin the exact same thing as u earlier, y only put 11 legends in. If they wanted to put legends in then they should have either put like 4-5 in. Like sum real super legends in, or put atleast 20-25 in so that they go into a whole new lil dimension of there own!! I think that would have been preety neat.

Oh well maybe better luck next year we've still got the best wrestling game to look forward to yet. :) Lets say in about 7 months or so from now when smackdown 5 has gotten abit borrin, what would we be lookin forward to in the next series?? Maybe there plan is to keep on improvin um a LITTLE each year so that they make more money!!

i cant agree with No Mercy having "dodgy" gameplay. the first 3 smackdown's each lasted me 3-4 weeks (smackdown 2 possibly only 2 weeks) i always went back to Wrestlemania/No Mercy on N64, that engine i think was still the best up until smackdown 4,

that lasted me a lot longer (maybe 6-7 months) but i still play No Mercy NOW (its got to be at leat 4 years old) but it was genius.

i'm quite shocked at those roster omissions, at least 5 of them are currently playing bigger parts on the roster!!! Shane especially. shame.

should be extremely excellent though, like pro evo 3 i'm hoping play will deliver it 1 or 2 days early!! which means about 10 days on the countdown. excellent!

Does anyone no what's going on with Smackdown???? on every site i go on its got "Release date: 7th Nov 2003" even on THQ's website (makers of the game) but on the official Sony Website it's got the 14th??? i'm inclined to believe Sony but why would everyone else have the 7th? they have to get the info from somewhere.

Well it's already rolling around the states, and I'm giving it a test drive myself ;)

The new grappling and countering system was a bit weird at first as I kept tapping square as usual to counter only to get smacked in the face. I also gave season made a run around which is good, but has a slight problem with characters not remembering things. Like I was almost killing Kurt angle then I've formed a tag team with him the next week and won the titles all with our feud going on in the background for the championship. :confused:

Should be out on the 7th but play have said they will try to make the 7th. Might be worth giving whoever your seller is. :)

So, I´ve also tested this game now. It´s great, like every year, I´m content with the Smackdown series. Had the same feelings like mikeom, I had to get used to the new grapple system and that you have to press either L2 or R2 to block and start counter attacks.
btw official release date for Europe is now the 21st, it´s already out now in the states.

Nope Angle is avaliable from the start ;)

There are some pre made CAWs but haven't had time to look at them yet. You can also buy legends from the shop, but not current superstars, just outfits for them.

Good thing I don't have to wait for the 21st :D

they are pretty reliable sources in my book, so where did you read 21st?

The first official release was 7 th, but I read on our German forum that it's delayed till th 21st. Maybe it's just for Germany, but I think the release date is the same for the entire Europe. It's always the best solution to expect the game being released at the latest date, so it's a nice surprise when it comes 2 weeks earlier.

the uk release is the 7th. that is official, ppl in the uk have already got it if they were able to get it form a small shop that sells it early. Neway its defintily the 7th and all the shops, websites etc say the same. The 21st was the release date about a month ago.

The 21st seems to be the official release date in Germany, some German internet-shops have the 21st, although Amazon.de has the 7th. I went today to my local game store and they told me the release should be on the 7th, but now there´s an "unknown" release date in their computer. And this game-shop is relieable, I bought PES3 1 day before the official release there :)

I actually played it last night!!!! My mate’s got the American 1 (which I am now in possession of as he is busy with Uni!)

First off, Sunday, I watched a DVD demo (comes with PSW Magazine, I think…?) and I got a little apprehensive about it, here’s why:

1) It said the animators had “ditched realistic approach for a more arcade feel”
2) It said “once you get into the game, it feels twice as fats as last years”
3) It said “blood is a little disappointing

As soon as I put it on, all fears were allayed. It doesn’t, to me anyway, feel faster, less realistic, or arcadey.

I was relieved, and after a few matches (with the infuriating new reversal system, well, infuriating til you get used to it) I really found it enjoyable, even if after 4-5 matches I was still tapping x and square screaming “KICK OUT YA SON OF A…” while my mate sat there laughing!

It’s a great game, although the new AI of the CPU Wrestlers does make it difficult in the beginning, they are so much smarter compared to the duds in “Shut Your Mouth”.

Elimination Chamber is excellent, but as soon as the third and fourth wrestlers are unlocked it starts to get a bit chaotic, now, imagine when 5 and 6 get out!

Blood is excellent to (in my opinion any way) its much like No Mercy (a splash on the fore head and a trickle down the nose)

Season, seems to have been reworked rather well, although I’m a little worried about longevity, I chose John Cena, and played 6 weeks, here’s how it went (I’m on Smackdown show by the way):
Week 1) dis’ the Undertaker, he challenges me, I lose
Week 2) Challenge Eddy Guerrero for U.S Title, make him submit…U.S Champ already…
Week 3) Challenge Benjamin and Haas for Tag Titles (chose Sean O’Haire as partner)
win Tag Titles
Week 4) Defend U.S Title
Week 5) Defend Tag
Week 6) O’Haire attacks McMahon with Chair and gets suspended right before our PPV
title defence!

Okay, so the stories picking up but double champion after 3 weeks???? It’s a bit daft if you ask me!

Cool additions to story:
1) no walking around, a menu pops up when you click move, you can see who’s around and then choose whether or not to talk to them
2) You can ask for a show transfer (even though they wont let you when your champ, would’ve been cool to defect with title)
3) RPG element, build experience and skill, your actions affect whether your face or heel (goody or baddy for those less informed)

I´ve seen blood only one time, it was in the first-blood special match. Do you need to change something in the options to have blood ?

no you dont, you just hit their head until that meter thingy in the corner turns red and then do a move with blood capability, and it should start flowing!!!

if you go on to create a wrestler, then create moveset, look at each move, the ones that can make them bleed have a red "B" next to them!!!

also, use weapons, (stairs are good)

Thanks mate, have checked it out, the problem was that I was only playing on easy or normal and the match was over before I could hurt their head. :)
I had some longer matches in season mode now and I noticed that there can be blood in every match. Weapons are very effective if you want to make your opponent bleed. :)
I play season mode with Kevin Nash now, I´m Tag Team champ together with Triple H but now he has been suspended by Vince McMahon, I wonder what´s next in this fantastic game.

i started with my created geeza, who i set as heel, and when i did dastardley things like hit Ultimo Dragon backstage i gained experience points, but when i did good guy things like saving J.R from Vince i lost exp points!

Totally agree, I'm hooked. You just think a few more points or something happens, like a backstage attack and you want revenge! :D

I've just started a new season with a created guy, went for a walk and bumped into Stone Cold, who gave me a sound beating. You would never be on the receiving end like that, quite refreshing instead of beating everyone with superstar. Good stuff :)

i finished my first year last night, at first i was disappointed that i didn't get the option to go to a second year, but i presses "start new season" and it transfers all data to new season even story lines!

i beat brock for title at mania XIX, and being the heel i am, beat him down after the match, so the 1st smackdown of my new season he came to the ring asking for a rematch and beat me up then Stone Cold turned on me and beat me up, and J.R actually said "oh my god, he's turned on him" so it wasn't just a coincidence!

Though this is the best wrestling game its felt very different to the rest!! With the others i used to go on every day to see if there was any more pics... with this i hardly even know whats in it. Proberly casuse i've stoped watchin wrestlin as much!!
From me not watchin wrestlin as much i reckon its gonna effect how much i like it now, since with the others i used to have matches which were goin threw in wwe for example The Rock vs Hulk Hogan, but now i dont really know whats been goin on in...

yes it has gone down hill, especially Smackdown, i can watch a Smackdown episode in 15 minutes with the use of fast forward!

I watched NWA-TNA last week, it 's on Sky. it felt fresh, and it was really enjoyable. its got a lot of old WWE stars under new names, such as Jeff Jarrett, Road Dogg, Raven, Sting, Luger and loads of others, every night at 7pm on friendly t.v (sky) there is a different wrestling show on. including organisations that feed stars to the WWE. try it if you've got sky

NWA was doing a live thing down my area :eek: there becoming bigger and bigger!! Razor Remon went there since he didnt have to wrestle or come on week in, week out. Ive heard there sum decent wrestling goin on there. WWE is just talkin which is there best part for wwe, since there wrestling has just turned to a few slaps to tha chest and a suplex :mad:
ECW was tha best for pure wrestling, if you use kazza or anything simalar download sum sabu, sandman matches pure class :cool: There was this 1 match where sabu like fucked his knee up proper bad, he might have moved a bone or sumthin and he still carried on... SUM A AMAZING STUFF!! check it out :)

i've got 20-30 ECW video's, huge fan.

NWA has got some great Wrestling matches, no bull. its got some story building, but it concentrates on what the fans pay to see!!!

not sure if its on NTL, its called "Friendly T.V" have a look through. hopefully they will start bringing some videos out!!

there PPV was on wednesday but was U.S only, so i couldn't catch it.

speaking of which,any idea why Armageddon wasn't on T.v over here??? the december ppv is usually on Box office, but it wasn't anywhere. just had to watch the Following Raw to catch up. dead annoying!

Tazz was excellent in ECW, i liked Sabu, Jerry Lynn, Raven, Justin Credible, Tajiri, Rhyno and towards the end Steve Corino

Vince buys an EX WCW/ECW star, destroys all his good features and puts them as curtain openers (1st match) just cos he can?????? e.g Hurricane, Rvd, Steiner, Hogan, Goldberg, Scott Hall/ Razor Ramon, Nash, Raven, Justin Credible, Jerry Lynn,Rhyno, Tajiri (the list goes on and on!)

he destroyed the nWo in about thirty seconds!!!

i think WWE's best era by far was the Attitude phase, the invasion was a good idea, but i'm not a fan of the brand extension!

Neither am i... your spot on he recks everythin :mad: NWO comin was a brilliant idea but wtf did he do with it!! Wrestling was just shit after that wrestle mania. HULK HOGAN vs THE ROCK... :D:D what a match.
Plus when The Rock came bk as a bad guy made it interesting and funny but he went bk. Taz was a brilliant wrestler but what did they do, make him a commentator leaving him to go fat :( The invasion was a good idea but as the weeks went on, it just kinda dragged on too much which left me kind pissed off. When i look bk to it now it seems quite good but only since wrestlin is complete shit now compare to before the invasion.
I think WWF was good but since they changed there name its kinda went down hill, not sayin that the name changed it just since then i havent watched it as much casue simple reason its boring. Many people have moved on and wwe are gettin sum new fans but more have left then joined.
I here sum people went to see raw and there was a whole stand where it had a black sheet over all tha seats... you cant see it properly on t.v casue they've dimmed tha lights too much.

I think soon wwe will be out of buisness, sad really since i luved wrestlin as a kid and have great memories... to when HBK wasnt HBK he was apart of The Rockers :D:D

WHAT A GAME!! :eek: It soo guud that i might acctually start watchin wrestling again :eek: infact you know what i acctualy watched raw "the best of raw 2003 moments" and too be honest after playin smackdown 5 some how it has effected me and it just feels like tha old times. I ACCTUALY ENJOYED IT :eek:, after months of not watchin i just watch it out of nowhere and it was fantastic:D

Smackdown 5 itself is just pure class... i would have never thought that it would come out like this... lets just hope that this 1 will last a couple months. Theres 1 thing thats really fucked though... what the hell is the difference between smackdown arena a and smackdown arena b.. same with raw arena a and raw arean b. Ive heard that the only difference is tha fuckin roof. Who the hell would give a shit about lookin at the roof whilst playin. As soon as i unlocked it i went straight to the top and tried climbing to the fist but none of them worked. I was dissapointed since with smackdown 4 you could climb :(
The only downside i guess, very hard indeed well compare to the last ones. Job well done by THQ. Anything you would want in the next smackdown??

I just finished 1 season in smackdown 5... 10/10 for season... i acctually enjoyed how it ended since i just thought the begining was sum kind of bullshit but it did end up linking :D Im gonna have to do another season mode but with a tottaly diff kind of wrestler... have to unlock the classics :D cant wait!!

if you start a season with the same wrestler all the stuff carries over, so title story lines continue. i was in a 2 on 2 type story, but at the end of my season i changed my created guy from heel to face, so in that story the guy with me turned on me (cos he was heel) and the guy on the other team helped me! weird no??

did you do the single story or the "stable"

I done a stable :D... i too luved it. Me and Chris Benoit won the tag champs. But casue i was a face i always got tag matchs against big time heels. While i had all these tag matches, i found myself teaming up with val venis alot. So after about 2 weeks me having chris b.... and (lita :D) in my stable, val wanted to be in it, casue i had teamed up alot with him i let him.
I got jumped right at the end of a match (even though i won :rolleyes: ) and the rock came out :D. He joined after i returned the favor!

I was Undertaker in my 1st one. So if i start another season mode with Undertaker, he will be the champ and i will have a fued with Brock like before??

Damb!! These storylines are just so authentic. Everything is just brilliant. Even the loading time isnt all that long anymore. I remember smackdown 4 being superb but, in the career mode it used to take about 10 minutes to load (ok maybe im exagurating) and it really did take the piss.
I like the idea of having original and made up storylines in hctp. It makes it more worthwhile playing, since your just playing then some classic moment just happens, for instance "the rocky touching the floor before big show incident" HAHA ... i was in the rumble and i smacked vince's special person out (eddie querro) and i cleared him, then this little scene happened, which showed me and him both going out around the same time but i just clinged onto the ropes. It was brilliant, i was well chuffed. Then he had this big fued with me. He was just looking for an ass kickin :rolleyes:
Im doing a new season mode now, will me doing a new season effect me if i start a new season mode with Undertaker?? will i be champ with him... and carry on with my fued between Brock, even though ive started a new season mode with RVD??

i think it only carries over if you finish the current season, if you quite one half way through it wont.
