View Full Version : step overs
anybody got any tips on when to use step overs and how to use them effectively? i can't seem to get it right. defenders always take the ball from me.
cheers
dont use em, theyre crap
only way i use em is the single step over then a sharp turn (toe poke away thing) which stepping over it allows u to do well
thats about it
ok it looks flash but ..... :p

Yeh I just use the R2 dribble button, very effective :)
u guys ever tried the 360 spin by rotating the R3 button around ?
i used to think these were crap, but i have somewhat seen the light. I use the L1 stepover most often to take a guy 1 on 1. Sure - i could just go with a shimmy or the 45 degree R2 move, but sometimes they expect that and time it (when playing buddies).
so I'll throw them off my scent by mixing in some stepovers before I jam the toggle 90 or 45 degrees. Or sometimes, they will slow down when they see me do it, and then i'll hit R1 and push the ball past them like C. Ronaldo does.
It takes some practice and you will still lose balls, but when it works it is beatiful and it really pisses off your opponent!!
again - if you are a creature of habit and your mate knows your timing for juke moves, throw this wrench in his machine and he will be lost.

You need very good timing to do the stepover to get through a defender. With the single stepover you can easily choose left or right. but with the double, triple stepover..depending if your a right or left footed player..it is easier for you to go the opposite..eg:if your right footed -go left and vice versa with left footed.
i notice if you do a stepover..and you see it in relplay..you kinda slide afterwards...so the best method is to do a stepover..is to execute it puase for 1/2 a second wait for the defender to step into you and swerve to a side.
wish i could do a 7 stepover in succession like Robinho (king of pedeladas(scissors/stepovers) )

also handy when playing against your mate to do a few stepovers then as he moves just plough on straight ahead (instead of turning either side) as your forward will poke the ball forward and you'll be clean through
They can be useful for winning free kicks/bookings if a tackler goes to ground. Just turn-tight (R1) or side-step (R2) into them.
Not a side of the game we like to see...
