View Full Version : Derren Brown - The Heist
The current date proposed by C4 for Derren's new special is Wednesday January 4th 2006 at 9pm. This is of course subject to change.
"Derren Brown: The Heist" sees the "devil-bearded mind-fiddler" (Zoo Mag) using his unpleasant skills to persuade some middle-management busuinessmen and women into stealing a hundred thousand pounds in what they believe is a genuine (and supposedly unfilmed) armed robbery. The participants believe that they are taking part in a seminar where Derren teaches his skills, and a follow-up documentary to see how they're getting on.
The participants in the show also unwittingly take part in a re-construction of the famous 1960's Obedience experiment by Stanley Milgram: a harrowing demonstration of people's readiness to deliver apparently lethal electric shocks to a human being, merely because a man in a white coat tells them to. The show will be as dramatic and thought-provoking as you should by now have come to expect from The Great One.
Anyone else tuning in for this? It sounds awesome!
Derren Brown is a complete joke if I do say so. I honestly don't know how people can watch what he does. That Russian Roulette was a fucking disgrace, he is a piece of scum.
I will probably come back and Edit this to release some more frustration later.
Derren Brown is one of the few reasons to watch TV.
Can anyone remember that show he done last year? It was called something like ''Messiah''. One of the finest pieces of television I have ever seen.

Hunter you're slipping, you've made decent posts recently, fair enough have your opinion but at least give us some reasons as to why you think this.
Derren Brown is a genius, some of the things he does are so funny, did anyone see the one where he placed that guy in the game he was playing? I'll definitely be tuning into this.

he had a great trick he used to walk up to people in the street an get them to hand over there wallets
He is a legend for that if it is true love to find out but its dodgy
Someone must know what I'm talking about. It was the show in which he went to the U.S. Persuading so-called experts from different walks of life making them distinguish him as ''special''.

Yeah I can remember that he made all of there ways of life look ridiculous.
I've seen the wigi board one, and the one with the blindfold. But the best so far, has to be where he played (I think it was 7 or 9) of the best chess players in the world. I think he won 5/9 or something. Then he told them he actually remembered the move each person had made, and played it against their opposite number. Awesome.

I thought the one where he put the guy in the game was absolutly class, he is a genius!!

That one was genuinely freaky. I felt sorry for the guy he did it to. I would be shitting myself.

The guy is smart, there is no doubting that but I just don't believe it. I did see "highlights" of that Arcade Game/Reality Game one a day or so ago. Very very strange but I honestly just don't believe it, I have never really believed hypnotism and I will probably never believe it unless it is performed on me. I watched some of the Russian Roulette a while ago and it was a waste of time, I have never really liked him since then. But I suppose he is much better than others in the sense he doesn't just do card tricks etc.
The Russian Roulette one is the only one I haven't seen. I heard he either cocked it up, or had everyone believe he cocked it up.

Hunter, go and see him live and you'll believe, it's not essentially hypnotism, it's all using mind manipulation in the way minds work. He's a fascinating man and there's no way you should write him off from a single episode of his.
Believe ;) (http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/M/mindcontrol/)
The seance (sp?) was quite impressive, reeled me right in.
Anyone else watch that?
He's an amazingly talented manipulator and he's a brilliant showman as well. Everything is coordinated so precisely and he's got a scarily good understanding of language manipulation.
Most of his work is not hypnotism at all, it's subconscious manipulation, through use of language, images and gestures. It's fascinating just to see what he can do by deliberately dropping a single word into a question.
Everyone loves to call him fake because they get the impression that they're so much more in-the-know and less naive than everybody else. It's just an ego trip and a chance to roll your eyes at other people and feel superior.
That Milgram experiment is awesome, it's a pivotal study into human behaviour. I can't wait to see what he's going to do with it.

That was freaking weird! I picked everything that was on the show and I was 10 when it was on. It was fucking scary then.

So did anyone watch this in the end? I thought it was quite good, the way he put in all the elements was nicely done. Well worth the watch, especially the part in the sweet shop and that psychological test, very amusing.
Was funny how the shop assistants were talking about guys in suits stealing things....then another one walks in!
I was under the impression they were going to rob a bank, with the bank in on it obviosley, but it was still quite good.

This may have been a little dangerous as it may have been odd to have a completely empty bank, and having customers is a risk as things could go wrong.

 that was brilliant. "My wall isn't four foot high" "this door is about 13 foot and is about to close"

Good point. Derren Brown is class either way :)

Except that the door was about 6'6" like most doors! :D
I thought the best one was the guy who just walked in, picked up a Twix and the brazenly walked out with it not even trying to conceal it. It was so funny.

Derren Brown is pretty awesome. When he put that guy in the video game the guy shot the bride on the floor. What an anti-climax.
