Choosing Referees

I have read a lot now on people able to choose from 16 referees in PES3 on playstation 2. I have not found that option.

Can anybody help??

There is an intense looking, bug-eyed baldy ref, but in true konami spirit I doubt his name is Collina. Nocilla perhaps.

I heard a rumour that Konami's game engine only allows 22 sprites on the pitch thus not allowing there to be a referee on the pitch apart from in cut-scenes. Not sure how much truth there is behind that.

I thought the addition of a ref on the pitch in game play would be good for PES 3 but Konami abviously thought not!!

i dont think it makes that much of a difference.

would be good to see the referee getting in the way of the ball and then getting slide tackled, though :D

It's pretty bizarre that Collina isn't in the game considering he's on the front of the box, I can only hope that he's hidden somewhere in the game or shop.

he's not. does it matter anyway? u hardly see the refs. it is stupid not having him in the game though.

Collina goes under the name of something like Henrich Hausen in PES3.

but he doesnt really look like collina though he is bald, his refeering is tough, giving me plently of cards but fair and good judgement too.

It could only be him though, as nobody else even comes close to looking like Collina in the game.

If putting in the referee reduces the gameplay of PES3/WE7 to FIFA's level but includes referee, will you still prefer to have referee?

I remember reading somewhere that Konami tried putting referee in the game and resulting in slow downs of the game so they took the referee out.

FIFA have no problem because the AI is crappy and doesn't require as much processing.

Anyway, if it doesn't affect the gameplay/graphics, having a referee and linemans running on the pitch would be great ;)

Not that it particularly matters but it would be nice if Collina was in the game as he is plastered over the front cover of pes3. I mean if they have his permission to use his image then why would they not have his real name in the game? It doesn't have to be a proper referee in the game but it would just be a nice touch to add to the realism which unfortunately is still behind fifa, about the only thing that is behind fifa though.
