Any fans? A friend told me about them and I went out and picked up "The Battle of Los Angeles" the next day. Loved it. I started reading about them and then bought "Evil Empire" and their self titled album too. Their ST is probably one of my favorite CDs ever.

Tom is such a great guitar player and Zack's voice is equally good. Such an amazing band. It's just a shame that I got into them about a year after they split up. I'm not a fan of Audioslave, just because it is basically a watered down version of RATM and that is just no fun.

Anyways, what do you think of them?

They are an amazing band and i'm sad they broke up. The battle of Los Angeles is a fine album, but i prefer their debut over it. Fav song is there cover of Ghost of Tom Joad off the Renegades album.

Evil Empire is quite simply one of the worst albums I've ever listened to. That said, their self-titled album is an absolute classic and one of the best. The Battle of Los Angeles is also good and probably the best they could do - there was no way they could match the brilliance of their self-titled album. Renegades was different, I liked it for that. Its the sort of thing I wouldn't listen to if anyone else had done it. As BarnDoor said, The Ghost of Tom Joad is clearly the best song on there (and obviously one of their best). Maggie's Farm is good too.

I've also got some rare songs they did, such as No Shelter and the brilliant You Can't Kill The Revolution with Tool.

I'm not sure about favourite...probably The Ghost of Tom Joad more often than not.

The selftitled album is brilliant, and Los Angeles was quite decent. I am also quite fond of Audioslave, their album is quality although it doesnt quite match Rage Against The Machine.

Favourites are Bomb Track,Killing in The Name,Township Rebellion and Bullet In The Head.

oh we got a rage virgin...
I was hooked on rage since 1999 when i realised my political stance/baises were on the left...and Rage was the thing to nurture that angst
fave songs:
Bulls On Parade
Killing In the Name of
Sleep Now IN the Fire

Been a fan for a while. Got their first album when it came out then stopped listening to them for a while. Started listening to them again when i was 18 or 19 and bought the rest of their albums.
Quality band. Tom Morello is one of my favourite guitarists. He's got a very original sound and Zack's vocals are class.

Teekay
12-02-2006, 12:20
Great band, I've listened to them far too little. Tom is a great guitar player, he is a rare player with his originality.

I don't really like Audioslave, they're just like Rage and Soundgarden put together, but really they are pretty lame.

take the power back is my favourite. Has one of the best bass riffs i've heard

Killing In the Name Of
Bullet In the Head
Calm Like A Bomb
Bulls On Parade

Has anyone heard any more news on Zack's solo album? I've been hearing about it for ages, but I haven't seen anything.

Good to see a few fans on the site. :)

RATM were a great band, 2 great albums, shame Evil Empire was shite.

Highway Penguin
12-02-2006, 18:47
I don't think it was shite. It had some good songs on it, but it obviously wasn't the best of the 4 they've released.

Anyone have any of the DVDS?

Original?
13-02-2006, 15:10
Rage Against the Machine are good, but how people prefer them to Audioslave is beyond me. Audioslave are like Rage, except they have a decent vocalist, Zack couldn't be more of a fucking communist if he tried and neither can he sing.

Sweey
13-02-2006, 15:58
Zack couldn't sing, but I didn't mind what he did. I don't like Audioslave. Same riffs that others have used hundreds of times. I don't know, maybe I expected something as good as RATM.

Tallulah Belle
13-02-2006, 16:57
I can't believe that no-one has said Wake Up is a good song! Thats probably one of there best and well known songs. The Self-titled album was near perfection and subsequently couldn't top it. An interesting fact for you...Tom Morello was actually educated at Harvard and is the Grandson or Nephew to the Prime Minister of an African country. Can't remeber which one.

In my humble opinion The Battle of LA was the best album followed by the first one. Guerrilla Radio is THE classic track. Wasn't Zak off in some South American country joining the revolution? Offering his services as a mercenary.

Sweey
13-02-2006, 17:54
Probably Mexico (not South American, I know)

14-02-2006, 13:21
Zack is a quality vocalist. He might be a great singer in the concventional sense like Chris Cornell who signs more like Classic Rock. Zack's vocals are really powerful and sound excellent IMHO.

Barry
14-02-2006, 14:26
Its rather screaming and venting his frustration than singing, not a particular fan of Zak's vocals. The guitar and drums(or woteva) make it worth listening.

im a huge fan of ratm... the first albums tha best ... u just cant beat
killing in tha name.. freedom..take tha power back.. bombtrack...
bullet in ya head (now that i mention it) there r no bad songs on tha whole album....

zacks lyrics r deep... morellos guitar playin style is inspirational..

AgentZero
16-02-2006, 10:17
zacks lyrics are not deep theyre very blatant..militant if you must.
Morello is hands down best guitarist in the scene....

Highway Penguin
16-02-2006, 23:23
You got any of the DVD's yourself HP?
Nope, I haven't. I'm hoping to pick up their "Battle of Mexico City" or "Live at Grand Olympic Auditorium". Not sure which to pick, probably the latter of the two as it is a more recent recording.

Oh and I think Zack has admitted that he doesn't have good vocals, that's why he 'raps' or whatever you want to call it. I enjoy it.

Has anyone picked up Tom's cds? I've heard they are quite good.

(ToM)
17-02-2006, 03:04
Yeh theyre fucking amazing, own the entire Cd and DVD collection including live and rare! Seen 3/4 of them live in Audioslave, but not the same without Zach. Self titled and evil empire are the best albums although they are all good.

Guerilla Radio is a great song, but in my opinion it's not a favourite song of a typical Rage fan, just the most well known.

Kenya.

Sorry for double post, just I honestly know so much about RATM its just untrue.

P.S Evil Empire is a fucking class album, the guitar work is insane, check out Down Rodeo for example. Not to mention the more well known tracks such as Bulls on Parade and People of the sun.

Highway Penguin
17-02-2006, 03:22
Really? Which DvD do you recommend?

(ToM)
19-02-2006, 09:52
Hmmmm well for me their all good, the Live at Grand Olympic is probs the best, its all live, the self titled one is very good and 11 live tracks and 6 uncencored videos. Battle Of Mexico City is good but I would opt for either of the other two first.Yeh the new one is definately the best...Its got 2 live gigs plus a few videos.

Highway Penguin

I love Zach. He may not have a great voice but his awesome lyrics plus the rage and fury that he spits them with are unrivaled.
My friend is meeting up with him soon and they might record something together. I will get to meet him if i make it to London in a couple of weeks. I can't wait to chill with this guy and have a phat ass doobie while we plan and discuss methods to topple the tyrannical western empires that have their people brainwashed and fooled into willing submission.

I always thought that he should link up with Immortal Technique and produce something with him. Immortal is more or less on the same tip.

Digging up an old thread here but Rage are incredible. Their performance at Reading last year was the greatest I have ever seen from anyone.

Played the first song ('Bombtrack') in Guantamano Bay gear:

http://heavysoundsandtheabstracttruth .files.wordpress.com/2008/12/rage276.jpg

Great setlist too:

'Bombtrack'
'Testify'
'Bulls On Parade'
'People Of The Sun'
'Know Your Enemy'
'Bullet In Your Head'
'Born Of A Broken Man'
'Guerrilla Radio'
'Ashes In The Fall'
'Calm Like A Bomb'
'Sleep Now'
'Wake Up'
'Freedom'
'Killing In The Name'

So who else is into Rage?

Sweey
10-04-2009, 15:58
I used to be. Some songs are still great to listen to and their first album was clearly their best. Evil Empire is amongst the worst albums I've ever had the displeasure of listening to.

A FaceBook group has been set up by a pair of enterprising Rage Against The Machine fans to try and prevent the winner of this year’s X Factor from going to Number One at Christmas.

“Fed up of Simon Cowell's latest karaoke act being Christmas Number One? Me too! So who's up for a mass-purchase of the track Killing In The Name from December 13 as a protest to the X-Factor monotony?,” reads a post by the group’s admins Tracy and Jon on the Rage Against The Machine For Christmas No.1 group’s homepage.

“Even if you have the track already - let's face it most of us do - just buy it again before Christmas,” the post continues.

This year’s Christmas Number One will be revealed on Sunday December 20, so the group are urging people to purchase Killing In The Name – made famous by it’s Fuck you I won’t do what you tell me refrain – digitally through iTunes or We7 between 00:01AM on Sunday, December 13 and 11:59PM on Saturday December 19. And with close to 60,000 members of the group already, they might just have a shot!

Sign up for the group and lend your support: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2228594104&ref=nf#/group.php?v=wall&gid=2228594104

This HAS to happen!! I am buying it 3 times next week. Thought I'd forward it to you guys.

How much does the average Christmas number 1 actually sell?

I have a couple of spare quid on my iTunes account, as long as there's a slight chance of it winning, I'll buy it a few times.

Yep, read the FB group though, the point has been raised and dismantled countless times. This isn't about money, it's about being screwed over by X Factor every year and the fact that it's almost certain that they get a Christmas number 1.

I think both the explicit and clean versions count. They combine them both. I've already purchased the live version (as I didn't have it anyway) and that counts as well. Probably get another copy or 2 during the week.

RATM are on Sony who own SYCO records so your helping Simon Cowell anyway. If people want to do this for the Christmas spirit download a song newly released for Christmas and not a band that are Anti establishment but are signed to a major so basically are with the Establishment.

On a positive note, They are decent and ideal for Beginners who want into Politcal 'extreme' music.

Sweey

I'd much rather see Slade or the Pogues number 1 but there's fuck all chance of that happening so this is the next best thing. I'd much rather see any original song number 1 than yet another ballad style cover.

I've bought 2 copies but I'm starting to not see the point anymore. The facebook group has been taken down for the last 3 days and now presumably deleted, a day before the X-Factor single comes out on CD. It wouldn't surprise me if there's a fix for it to be number 1.

dotty
15-12-2009, 18:33
Well could it be possible Some record company managed to get the group deleted?

Bishop, The Pogues 'Fairytale of New York' was in the charts last week so why couldn't people forsee that song would sell better than a RATM song? No they were fucking retarded thinking Anti popularity/Establishment pish and be smart about it, yet never researched RATM being on a major label, even better being on Sony. It reeks of silly as fuck typical Facebook groups, fucking useless cunts.

Also Pogues were never Number 1 with that song, so maybe a Facebook group for that would have worked better.

Sweey
15-12-2009, 18:56
I don't think the Pogues thing would have worked - this was all about an anti-song. It had to be an anti-song to get so many people on board and what with the expletives in the song, it helped in this situation.

By Thursday I believe we'll have been trounced. I've not bought it yet, I'll have a good enough indication by then as to whether I need bother or not.

I've bought 3 copies. And donated to Shelter. More than £50,000 has been raised by the Rage campaign so far.

Simon Cowell wouldn't like it. They wouldn't get through to boot camp on The X Factor
I bet they'd be devastated to hear that. You have no worthy opinion Joe. You're Cowell's bitch until he tosses you out on the street, probably sometime next year.

Too many people on facebook just join groups for the sake of it. We could've won this easily if enough people were committed.

I'm sure you can't buy more than two copies from the same online shop or it doesn't register.

And i'm not sure that 29p digital downloads get counted in the chart but i'm not 100% on that.

Also i've not joined the group and bought the single

Then, just a jaunt away, the chorus is a thrilling sleigh ride, glistening and sparkling our way across a winter scene, punctuated by crystal beads of snow prickling the skin, filling us with joy and reminding us of the true nature of Christmas once again...love.

This slightly up-tempo but heart-felt song is truly a breath of fresh air. In a society where Christmas seems to have lost some of its meaning this festive song takes us back (or forwards maybe) to a simpler time when what really counted was 'togetherness' and 'virtue', and of 'altruism' and 'honesty'.

Rage trailed by 11,000 at the end of Friday so I sincerely doubt they made up the difference yesterday.

Papa

The bookies have made Rage the favourites this morning! Hope that's because of some inside knowledge rather than optimistic betting.

Also if people haven't donated to Shelter yet, the link is here:

Last I heard is that they were ahead going into Saturday but lost the lead in the late hours.

I heard the opposite.

It's all speculation now though isn't it? We'll find out at about 6.45ish tonight on Radio 1.

I wouldn't be surprised if RATM sell nothing next week and break the record for the biggest slide down the chart.

Winger
20-12-2009, 20:48
That will probably happen. But the point has already been made. And the Christmas Number 1 has already been decided. Message sent. Joe to get the Week After Christmas Number 1? Well, not many people remember who claimed those victories off-hand down the years. And if they remember it this time, it'll only be because Rage Against The Machine smacked him into next week and "allowed" him to have that hollow victory as we didn't care any longer.

Greasy goths... oh whoever said that is hillarious, they never been for goths, they been for grunge rebels etc they were an easy first rebellion band to get into, plus what they all seem to neglect is that they actually wrote their song, what did Joe do?? oh yeah covered a Miley "Hannah Montana" Cyrus song, wtf, if people had liked the song in the 1st place they would have got her version making her number 1 at the time but no, just cos he was on their favourite shit reality show he does better stealing her song.

So wait, if you want to claim 2 tickets, you need the other person's details as well?

Yeah, they need to be registered and you need to have their registration number and postcode to hand on the off chance that you get tickets.

I think I read somewhere that the capacity of Finsbury Park is 40,000 and around 400,000 people have applied. Sigh. My plan of action is to persuade/bribe all of my friends to have me down as their second ticket, which cuts the odds of me getting in by 5.

TH

So wait, if you want to claim 2 tickets, you need the other person's details as well?

Really? that's stupid.

Papa
15-02-2010, 22:11
Why is that stupid? It's a scheme designed to stop people selling tickets to a free gig, hence the face on the ticket idea.

If you didn't have the other person's details, how would they put a face on the ticket?
