Mumpleaser
16-05-2003, 08:14
I'm into quite a lot actually. Drum&Bass must be my first love, followed closely by Ragga and Hip-Hop.

I also love Massive Attack (Bristol!), Portishead, Bjork (her last compilation album was incredible) and a Swedish Hip-Hop band called Looptroop. If you ever get the chance to check them out live, do it!

Skate punk isn't too shabby either!

18-05-2003, 16:41
I've got about 600 mp3s. I don't buy albums when you can download any song you want for free. and as im on my pc a fair bit i always have that access to the songs.

as for the roots, they are quality. phrenology is a wikked album - have you heard any 'a tribe called quest'? cos they are pretty similar but a bit more jazzy. they are better than the roots but its a close call

rebusrahman
20-05-2003, 13:42
Hope people don't mind that I listen to other things than people have listed here! lol. Led Zep, Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, Small Faces, Rage against the Machine, Massive Attack, Portishead, Radiohead, Doves, Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Beastie Boys, Black Star Liner, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Norah Jones, Mozart, Delibes, Beethoven... anything but jungle! Aaaaaaargh! By the way, "A tribe called Quest" are a fine band.

rebusrahman
20-05-2003, 15:29
Like your taste in music, Cheesy. Except I don't like Poo Fighters! Have you got any Police? Pls tell me you don't like Sting's later stuff???? Ah! I forgot to mention Bowie. Genius!

FIORE_FAN
20-05-2003, 15:59
Finally some guys with almost the same taste for music as i have.
I went to see Type o Negative on a festival a few years ago – huge, cool guys!!! Heavy stuff.
I generally like grunge/seattle bands: Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Temple of the Dog, Nickelback and Creed.
My absolute favorites are METALLICA. ******NEW ALBUM COMING OUT 10th OF JUNE****** ST. ANGER. I'm really looking forward to that album. It's always a special event when Metallica plays in Denmark since Lars Ulrich (the drummer and co-founder) is from Denmark. MONSTER concerts!! - try it if you haven't already!! They are to play on this years Roskilde Festival!

But really....i listen to all kinds of music - from classical music to hard rock. I hate dance, techno, hiphop and trash/speed/death metal!!

cheezy
20-05-2003, 16:37
i've got every song the police ever recorded on CD, but i kinda like sting solo as well (not everything though). i try to do a lot of festivals every summer, too (like pinkpop, rock werchter, graspop metal meeting, dynamo, pukkelpop...)

GFK
20-05-2003, 18:49

Sister Hazel? Sister Sledge? Nolan Sisters? Who the hell r Sister Hazel? What a very bad name for a band!

Lisbon67Seville03
22-05-2003, 23:51
sister hazel have very mellow, american music which is quite catchy like, "its all for you"
if possible, try and get a northern californian radio station called Live 105 between 12:00am to about 6:00 am cali time, the best rock music without an advert in sight, well, listenability, well, you get the picture.
all music, except pop(especially this pop idol shit), is good/respectable. especially coldplay

Zygalski
23-05-2003, 00:48
Thanks for the info, lisbon.

Alternatively, you could use Kazaa or such to download a couple of songs by them and gain an opinion.

I would recommend the songs
'happy' and 'beautiful thing'
Faster than most but fun too.

GFK
23-05-2003, 10:49
ehll 50 cent is so bad he raps about nothing. He raps only about gangsta and that kind of shit he is so so so so bad so does his album. So i have to say that. You can better listen Talib Kweli thats much better and not all that gangsta shit.!

Mumpleaser
23-05-2003, 10:59
Just got so add a little here! To say 50cent is shit because he raps about 'gangsta' things is very closed minded. It's a plain fact that he was a crack dealer and a hustler before Dr.Dre and Eminem helped him get his hip-hop career going. He raps about these things because that's his life. He doesn't know any different. If you were going to write some lyrics to a song, it would probably be about what you have experienced in Holland and your life in general, which is what he is doing.

'Get rich or die tryin' is a very good album in my opinion and his stlye of rapping is brilliant. It's not that I'm pro rap or anything, it's just that I recognise quality when I hear it.

Peace out homie

GFK
23-05-2003, 11:23
I do not agree with that. Because not your whole life is about drugs etc. His whole album is about gangsta and the public love it. Its not that what i hate if he want to rap about gangsta thats his problem but the most people think that he is the best rapper. And thats not true because when you listen to Talib Kweli thats so much better. Thats the only thing i want to say

Cheers!!

rebusrahman
23-05-2003, 14:00
Have to agree with GFK. If you do not innovate you die. That's why gangsta rap gets boring after a while. It is too narrow a genre of music as there very little crossover or variation of lyrics. Look at country (can't stand it personally) but it has had to adapt and have diff forms or die off. The only diff with gangsta rap is someoen will always wanna use a tune about a niggah bitchf***in' a 'ho (or something) in their movie.

Lisbon67Seville03
24-05-2003, 01:31
i think 50 cent is alright, but its been done before, maybe he should make a new image of the rap scene. but then again, dre knows rap better than anyone ever, so are we right to question his choice?

GFK what his says is true. He has been shot nine times and has his kids wearing bullet proof vests. This didn't come about as a result of a minor disagreement outside of the school gates. This was a result of drugs and their distrubution.

GFK
24-05-2003, 20:14
50 cent is still some cheap crap i think. Dr Dre will make everbody famous altough he cant rap because dr dre knows exactly what the public want and the public doesnt like him for all the things he is rapping about no the like him because its gangsta and there is a great bass in it. So listen to Talib KWeli and you directly the differnt between he and 50 cent talib is so much better.

by the way with public i do not mean you (gooner and mumpleaser and the others) because you know what we are talking about and the public defenitly NOT.

Cheers:)

how can u say that GFK??? obviously he isnt that bad cuz hes one of the most famous musicians/rappers at the moment. so he must be doing something right that people like.

Lisbon67Seville03
25-05-2003, 02:49
lets not forget, that dr dre has discovered the most famous rappers today, so you arent right to talk ill of him either. we wouldnt have anyone like snoop dogg, eminem, 50 cent, eve(not a rapper, but still very popular) and many more. lets face it, he's forgotten more about rap and music than we could ever fathom to imagine about knowing!

Good Charlotte are quality!

29-05-2003, 15:38
i'll be the first to admit that good charlotte are a good, very gifted band and i do think their tunes are very catchy. but the problem is that this type of music has all been done before. i want to hear a new band that completely revolutionise music once again. it hasnt happened since 5 mancunians were discovered in King Tut's WahWah Hut in Glasgow. that was the rebirth of the guitar music and the end of the funky techno 80s stuff that i am fortuante enough to not remember enough of, only three years even tho i am 20 i can only remember from when my lit. bro was born onwards.

rebusrahman
05-06-2003, 11:09
Elvis...yes. Righteous Brothers, hmm. What about Otis, Temptations, Billie Holiday, Ella, Satchmo. That kinda stuff? My thought is if music is good you will know no matter when it was made. That's why Mozart et al endure?

lucy

lucy
05-06-2003, 21:38
lol no im not kiddin, cant say ive heard of that tho. im cant really call myself a true fan cos i dont have loads of the cds or know the names of the songs lol i just really like the sound and the feeling that mowtown can give you. lol bet that sounds crap!

rebusrahman
05-06-2003, 21:53
Nah! That's fair enough. U should go and get some of these cheapo compilation CDs. Earth, W & F is like £4 for 4 classic tracks on a CD of about 15 songs. Loads of these bands have compi CDs with at least 4/5 good songs. Also try Desmond Dekker and Jimmy Cliff

Yeah, I'm an Oasis fan.

Loved the first album. Whats the Story was good but overated. Then Be Here now was terrible, but not as bad as The Masterplan and Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, which to be honest, were a joke.

Heathen Chemistry is quite good, but no where near as good as the first two.

You into your tribal warfare then blue? I only know about 4 of those acts but I do like ambient/world groove stuff when in the right "mood". Gonna see Radiohead in Nov hopefully. Just hope they're not as shit live as they were @ Glastonbury.

Reb have you heard the Vanilla Sky soundtrack? I'm not a big Radiohead fan, but their song on that album is very good, its one of those songs where you just put your head in your hands and drift off for a while. Its called, Everything in its Right Place. Great song!

Yeah. It is excellent. I watched that not great filma nd I have to say that the soundtrack is brilliant. But I would prefer to get the albums with those songs on (to know more of each artist). I don't really like buying compilation albums unless it's just toe-dipping into a genre.

The KFC songs? That is a very naughty attitude to have. Pls find out what they're called and no referring to them as the KFC songs!

BTW, I applied to audition for those ads. No audition though.

She likes what she thinks is good and what is good she likes. Simple innit? :)

I really hope that "Chihuahua" song by Dare doesn't get released over here. It's awful! How can they make a song which is just repeating the word Chihuahua?!?!

[Kula Shaker] Are they still going?

My favourite band at the moment is The Coral.

Afraid not. But the lead singer is now in a band called The Jeevas who are very good and play similar music. Their first album is called "1,2,3,4" and they've got another one coming out later this year I think. Cause the lead singer has all the rights to the songs he wrote, Jeevas perform most of the best Kula songs live anyway.

Im going to see the Coral in November - should be good, although I haven't heard much of their new album yet. Go to www.gigsandtours.com if you're interested in tickets - they had tickets for venues all over England on there.

Yep. And what you see in the film, with the flames and all, is what you get live. Rammstein are the most awesome live act around today.

everyone who likes good music check out this band, Suspire. Goo friends of mine and awesome live. superb front man, great lead guitarist, catchy, brilliant songs, strong bass, good drums. very original, although you can tell the inspirations they certainly dont fall into a category. if you had to choose, it would be rock. but they just dont sound like anyone else. website here: www.suspire.net

best bands now:
BRMC
Coldplay
Radiohead
Interpol
Snow Patrol
Athlete
Kings of Leon
Foo Fighters(still loving that last album)
QOTSA(Songs for Deaf is an unbelievably great album)
Suspire
Three Days Born(last two are glasgow-based)
Coral
and the immortal Oasis

The neptunes - Clones is a really good cd .
Does anyone have already the cd Obie Trice- Cheers?
Its better then 50 cent, but 50 wasnt that good i think it was either bad! (mine opninion, dont discuss this again)
Obie looks a bit like 50 cent also a lot of gangsta but i think it is what softer, and there are some magnificient beats in!!!! But i prefer a lot more The Neptunes - Clones.
And soon Bubba Sparxxx - Deliverance which i expect soon will also be better i think (i already heard some number)
Some other opinions??

How can you say Metallica are your favourite band and then say you hate thrash/speed metal - I find that really funny. Or are you the new breed of Metallica fan who think that 'Metallica' was their first album.

Get listening to 'Ride The Lightning' and 'Master of Puppets' and appreciate Metallica at their finest.

*sorry if that first paragraph sounds a bit harsh!*
