Here's the fact,

FIFA 2004 is not better than WE7 or PES3, why ? because of it's gameplay and realism, and that's that. BUT, alot of people don't wanna buy PES3/WE7 or any KONAMI's football games because of the license issue, and alot of people don't know how to use patches, I myself don't know, so people go with FIFA because it's fully licensed, almost every single club team in the world, alot of international teams, and so on.. I personally think, KONAMI needs to get their heads up and think of something...FIFA 2004 is getting better, in FIFA 2004 gameplay has improved, graphics are improved, more stadiums with licenses, ONLINE PLAY, and much much more...here's the things that KONAMI did to PES3 and WE7, "slighty better gameplay, few licenses, few added stadiums and that's about it, maybe some new animations, and better graphics..Imagine what would happend if FIFA and EA decide to put the same gameplay as KONAMI did in WE/PES games, KONAMI would be finished FOR EVER and EVER.

If it would be that easy to put the gameplay of PES into FIFA then EA would have done it a couple of years ago. Much easier is it for Konami to buy licenses for PES/WE. :)
You say FIFA has almost every single club team in the world. Well, that´s simply not true mate. There are not even 0,001 % of all existing club teams in FIFA. ;)
To be honest, most people never use all teams or leagues that are in FIFA, because nobody knows them, it´s just like with some friends of mine who play FIFA and use the fact that there are a lot of leagues as an argument, but they always play with Juve, Real or ManU. That´s somehow ridicolous to me. And you know what ? Only the superstars have realistic stats and appearances, 90 % of the players are wrong when we speak about appearance and skills. And there is no editor to change it, what is quite annoying for me.
The license issue isn´t that big because of patches, actually patching the game is as easy as installing drivers for your graphic card. People who say they cannot patch the game because it´s to difficult are just to lazy. ;)
You´re right about the improved gameplay, it´s really better then FIFA 2003, graphics and sound are as good as always, but to be honest, I like the PES/WE graphics more, they are more realistic. My personal opinion is:
I´m playing Konami´s footie games since 7 years, FIFA even longer, I think since Amiga-times :) and the best FIFA still is the 98 version, the gameplay is much better than in 2004, of course graphics are not that good, but that´s normal. The best Konami game is WE7.

Yeah, I understand you. Most of the things you said are true, so I'm not even going to contribute. You being from Germany I assume that you own PES3 as well. What are your thoughts when it comes to PES3 *VS* WE7 ?!?

To tell you the truth bro, I don't see that much of a difference. Alot of people complain about PES3's speed and say its too fast, or the stutter problem, and none of those problems are happening to me. When I play PES3 I don't see "any" stutter at all. And the speed is just perfect,normal and realistic. Alot of people don't know on how much their TV sets can be an issue when playing PES3, or when they get a stutter, it's because of their PS2. I found something very easy and my solution for those problems are = PAY THE MONEY - and you'll be all set. I remember, alot of people told me they have stutter bug in their WE7 copy, I got my WE7 copy around August 11th, and I didn't have any stutter at all. So people complain alot about stuff they don't know. Now let's move on to my original point of view. FIFA 2004 has improved alot, I don't even have the game but after reading so many threads here and on other boards on how FIFA 2004 good is I believe somehow that FIFA along with its makers EA is catching up to KONAMI and it's game series. I don't think KONAMI has better knowledge than EA does as far as the gameplay issue is conserned. EA makes alot more money than KONAMI does, but for some reason they make shitty gameplay in their FIFA series. I'm sure EA knows all about this but it seems to me that they don't care and people still tend to buy their games, especially football fans who buy FIFA. I must admit I will buy FIFA 2004 as well, and I wanna see how much effort did EA put on building this game. PES3 is great, WE7 is great, I wanna see where FIFA 2004 will stand. So at the end, what do you think which game is better PES3 or WE7 ?? both games are done by KONAMI, I know I asked this question before, so don't get pissed.

Eksol, I like both games, PES3 and WE7, maybe you know that I think WE7 is a little bit better, it´s hard to explain, if I would work in a gamesmag i would give WE7 95 % and PES3 92, that´s the difference for me. I think FIFA is somewhere around 80 %. The gameplay of the new FIFA is improved compared to 2003, but I already own PES3 and WE7 so I wouldn´t spend more money on footie-games this year :) Definately I´m going to play FIFA coz I have some friends that like FIFA more than PES, so I´ll play FIFA against them.
I don´t think EA can make a gameplay like Konami, by the way, the Konami company isn´t as little as the most people think, they have a higher budget like EA I think, at least EA have noticed that they need to improve the gameplay and are working on it, but it´s still a long way for them. The job for Konami is easier, they just need to spend some money on new licenses. Now it´s up to them to make a perfect, fully licensed PES4.

its not, if fifa could have top notch gameplay it would, if pes could have more licences it would. as larrson has said, its a lot easier to aquire a few licences than make a pes beating game engine.

That seems to be the most accurate solution, FIFA was in German gamemags at the same level like PES (about 88-90 %) so EA thinks that there is no need for making better gameplay. All that counts is the number of selled FIFA-copies, and not the fact that PES has realistic gameplay.

i got fifa on the pc today and its not my cup of tea, its very pretty with its licenced kits and it has absolutley millions of teams on it (all the divisions in england and all licenced!) but its just not good to play at all. its a shame cos it could be a great game.

Yeah man, I also bought FIFA 2004 (for PS2) today and I gotta tell you " THE GAME FUCKING SUCKS " FIFA is for kids, and still I bought it. I listen to so many fucking people telling me FIFA 2004 is good buy it, I spent fuckin $50 and brought SHIT home. The gameplay sucks, graphics sucks everything sucks..players look like cartoon characters, you can score from anywhere you want just shoot the ball and there is 99% of chance that you'll score...I promised myself this is the last FIFA I bought in my life.

And I and the most people here don´t want to spend 50 Euros for a "nice" game. I´m going to play it with my friends, once a week perhaps, but that´s enough.

im not saying its unplayable and really shit or anything, some people will like it, but after playing pes for the last 3 years i dont really want to accept anything less, and in my opinion, fifa is.

its a nice alternitive and its good to have competition, its a shame the next few games like club football, this is football etc are so far behind. if they caught up it would really be interesting!

But the majority of the gaming mags don't know shit about football. Have a few licenses, the most known players looking like real life and a gameplay that allows you to score unbelivable goals every game and you have a winner by most of the mags standards as well as the majority of the worlds 10 year olds.. ;)

Needless to say I'm no big fan of FIFA, but from what I've played of FIFA04 I can say it's a slight improvement over 03, and that's simply not good enough in my eyes. And as I couldn't care less about licenses if the gameplay is lacking, FIFA's just not for me. :)

I have(had) FIFA on Xbox. I also have CF and PES3, I would rate FIFA as the weaker of the 3.

Here's why: (remember this is only MY opinion, please direct all bomb threats to Bluescouse)

PES3 I think we can all agree is the best Footy game ever. The gameplay and ball physics are almost perfect. And I actually enjoy editing (no I don't spot trains)

CF: It gets extra points for having my teams logo on the cover (Shallow I know) and being based on my team. The gameplay, after lot's of tries and nearly throwing the thing, just edges FIFA. However CF does have problems that infuriate me (super goalies, stupid players etc.)

FIFA: Now I must admit I have bought probably every FIFA made and until last year I was happy with whichever edition it was as long as it had LFC's new kit and a few extras.

Last year about two months in I was flat out bored. I spoke to some educated few on the LFC Boards and bought PES2. Needless to say FIFA did not get played again.

Now, FIFA 2004 is a think a LOT better than last year, has substantial additions (off the ball, lower divs) and much improved gameplay.

However to improve 2003 gameplay is no great acomplishment.

I think to at least try all is the best solution.

club footie is shite: Their are loads of bugs in the game and it is really slow to react and has rubbish graphics to what it should be.

fifa is good because it has good gamplay and excellent looks and pes is good cos it has excellent gamply and alright looks .

The last Fifa I bought was 2002, which was utter, utter piss.

I have however, played the PC demo for 2004, and I have to say it looks alright, but not great. The graphics look fancy, and the gameplay has improved, but it is still "Fifa-ish", if you get what I mean (in the wall the players run, and how it is so easy to score).

I guess I am just used to PES, and I cant get the hang of Fifa anymore (my fave is still 98 like).

Ok here's the problem that can be solved very easily if you just use your brain. EA is a very smart video game company and they know how to play with peoples mind. For example take their FIFA games, and especially FIFA 2004. They knew they needed to beat KONAMI somehow so what they did they created an online play, so people can think oh KONAMI along with its WE7 & PES3 suck. Another thing is, EA pays alot of money to some top players to promote their game like this year with Del Piero, Henry and Ronaldinho. I'm sure every single KID knows these players and when they see the cover they think OMG this is the best footbal game. Then here's another BIG factor why people think FIFA 2004 is a good game, and I heard alot of people say it's even better than WE7 or PES3, so the people that say FIFA 2004 is better than WE7 or PES3 are kids, probably 5 - 18 and kids enjoy playing arcady game, instead of good simulation etc. This year what EA did was:

+ Online play
+ They improved graphics (The only thing they know how to do)
+ Added dozens of "unknown" football club teams and most people will never use half of them.
+ Gameplay is improved but it still sucks.
+ Some gay songs, and crowd chants who in the fuckin hell cares about songs and crowd chants..JEEZ

But what KONAMI does is improves gameplay each year, all people around the world are satisfied, mostly Europe, Asia and other football playing countries.. It just bothers me when Americans (where) I live say FIFA owns WE or PES, they don't know nothing about football...they play soccer fucking idiots..FIFA is nothing but a piece of shitty plastic that is worthless. I swear I'm gonna record myself pissin on FIFA 2004 disc and send it to EA.

Yes , FIFA 2004 sucks big time, not only that I think like this but I got almost the whole forum backing me up on this one. In FIFA 2004, the players are so damn lazy, they don't wanna run, it seems like noone wants the ball, and the passing is terrible..if you try to pass the ball to a player that you want to, he'll pass it to someone else which is ridiculous. Then long passes, the ball flies like a bullet, its so fast and unrealistic it can't even be described. When you shoot the ball and wanna score a goal you can't even see the ball goin to the goal..the only time you'll see a ball is when you score it will be either in keeper's hands or you'll see the ball in slow replay motion, how's that realistic. Corners just suck, and free kicks are unrealistic as well...what about all this huh ??? man I have nothin againts ya but I assume that you're a FIFA fan, just the way you talk..being a mod here, and backin up FIFA isn't a good thing..

I didn't like the way fifa looks or plays.

I have been offered the game for free (as a present) and refused it. Same goes for my 10-year-old brother. He used to be a fifa-fan until I showed him PES1. Now we both laugh together at the "off-the-ball-control" part of the adverts :D

If others like fifa then I have no problem with them unless they say that fifa is better than PES... then the guns are drawn ;)

Which teams do 95% of people play as in fifa? My guess is that they play as the teams available in PES3. How accurate are the stats for people not so well known, like lower division club players?

Why do you need complete leagues from Norway, Korea, USA, Japan or Israel to play a full career mode ? You can play a career only in the Premiership as well. Why do I need teams from Korea, Japan or the USA when I want to play a career with ManU ?
The fact is: Most of the teams are useless. Play the career mode and write on a piece of paper against how much different teams you´ve played in a season, and then compare with the amout of the teams in the whole game. You´ll see that you play only against about 1 % of all teams.

What exactly do you mean by "great graphics"? Are you talking about the players, the stadia or what?

I've just been playing the WE7 Reloaded patch with excellently accurate sponsored kits, added crowd chants and more. If you played the PES3 version of this, you may not look at fifa again.

If you want to score long range goals from Scholes, just stick PES3 on 1* or 2*.

Having played Fifa 2004 and PES3 back to back for about a week, I could not agree more that PES3 is years ahead of Fifa 2004..The dribbling is Fifa 2004 is horrible and lack reality unlike PES3. However I do agree that Fifa 2004 is the most comprehensive football title to date. The team lists are impressive especially with the English Div 1,2 and 3. As for shooting, it is just ain't real in Fifa,.And the way the ball bounces,....sorry better luck next time. Despite of its flaws, I am still playing the game hoping to bring a Div 3 team to the Premier League but I am really struggling to keep up the interest.

Fifa2004 would have been the best game in the world if the players could shoot and move like those in PES3.

I prefer the shooting on fifa because the shooting on pes3 is hard and very sensitive. Maybe the shooting on pes4 should be someware between fifa 2004 and pes3.

the u get promoted or relegated and can lead your fav team to the prem.

5 seasons is enough for me.

If I would have to rate i would give it 6- 6,5 out of 10.
Nice graphics, some cool elements like mud on the shirts etc., good chants, but still weak gameplay compared to PES3, there are always the same ways to score goals.
You cannot make your own tournament like in PES3, so you cannot play a nice little cup with 4 teams when you have 3 friends with you. Champions League is only available in career mode what is quite annoying IMO.
And what Giggsy said is with the real money sounds good, but it isn´t. It´s very unrealistic, and that makes this feature annoying. My friend played with Bayern, sold Scholl and Jeremies and could afford players like Vieri, Beckham, Raul, Nesta and Figo. LOL. It´s impossible in real life that Bayern buys this players coz they haven´t that much money. From what I´ve heard you can even buy this players without any problems if you´re in 2nd division.

now looking at the above if were all being honest the fifa career is for more realistic

and the pes3 money is unrealistic cos you you use points not money and alot of ppl end up with a world class squad at the end of it.

btw i DO think pes3 is better but i have never been keen on the new master league.

FIFA Career mode is a piece of shit, you can buy all stars with almost every team, you can play only 5 years, Zyg showed you how stupid that is, the money system is totally unrealistic and that´s why PES Career mode is better. Oh, wait, I forgot, in Giggsy´s world it´s realistic that Figo, Zidane and Raul can be bought by West Ham :rolleyes: Please think a little bit before you´re posting. You cannot configure your own tournaments, Lots of tournaments only available in Career Mode, like Champions league.

When you say you don't like the new PES3 master league mode, are you saying it's worse than the PES1 or PES2 ML modes?? Of course there are some limitations to what is in PES3 ML mode but at the end of the day you can:

1. play in a British premiership league (looks like forward thinking there ;) ),
2. play in a realistic(-ish) Champions League and UEFA Cup modes,
3. Imagine the Cup is the FA Cup and all you are missing is the League Cup - hmmm, if this was in the game, would we too send in weakened teams?! :D

SOME people cannot accept what you´re saying coz it´s BULLSHIT - sometimes ! Sorry to say that, but it´s true, I agreed with you in that:

- graphics, nice effects (mud on shirts etc)
- superb chants
- original league (yes, real Premiership is nicer than Norhern Divison)

which I think is better than in PES, but then I said some things on the second page that are better in PES than in FIFA and you didn´t agree with that, it seems that you even didn´t read it, so you´re the one who´s not accepting other peoples opinion mate.

And when you´re saying career mode is more realistic in FIFA then it´s over my friend, I won´t accept that, you can say it´s better for you, but you cannot say it´s more realistic and better overall, where´s the challenge and realism if you can buy every player with almost every team ? Giggsy11 I don't know if you know this or not, but if you have a mod status which you do you can go to panel settings and increase your post count. When I used to be a mod on another board, I had like 50.000 posts :D I don't know if this board offers that option..

It depends on the board, you cannot do this as a mod on every forum, I can change everything, like Zyg and Hitman, but I don't know if Giggsy can.

ive just played fifa on the ps2, the graphics are nice and the official stuff is nice, but that shouldnt make a game good just because it has that. the gameplay still isnt nowhere near as good as pes.

i do like the little touches like mud on the shirts etc.

people respect your opinions giggsy but try not to make it sound like youre slagging pes off cos thats wot gets peoples backs up (it is a pes forum after all ;) )

Patched PES3 has the licences and you can add any music you like into the game as well as changing the menu screens, balls, stadia etc etc. Giggsy, check out the Editing section and get into patching a bit. You'll love PES3 even more once you play a patched version. Then we'll see which game you prefer ;)

You don't need to have the PC close to your PS2 to patch it. You only need them close for... your fave item the X-Port :)

To patch, all you'd need is to put your PES3 DVD into your PC DVD drive to rip it. All the rest only needs you to download patches and small programs and then use the guides to patch it. After it's done, you play it in the PS2. That's about it.

Yes you patch games by burning the patch onto a blank CD. There's no danger to it. The worst that can happen is that you didn't follow the instructions properly and you've wasted a blank CD. That's about it. The best that can happen is that you can play an amazing version of PES3/WE7 with licenced kits and new music and loads more.

Just to add: another bad thing about fifa is that the cpu teams hardly ever have long-shots. So if your playing on world class or proffesional when they are through on goal they nearly always score, so at the end of the match the cpu will of had say '4 shots on target' and will have scored all 4 which is very annoying. :mad:

If their were long shots then it would say, for example '9 shots on target' 4 goals which is alot more realistic.

Its a really good game, although the fouling is actually WORSE than PES 3, i gave 3 penalties away last night, and not ONE of them was a foul. just both ran to the ball he stumbled-penalty!

really good career too. possibly better than Master League apart fromm 5 season limit!!
just started one with Kiddeminster (most local team i could find in Division 3)
actually struggling at the moment, played 12 games, only scored 10 goals, 8th in league.

just getting used to it again!

I own Fifa 2004, I own WE6I, I have owned Fifa '03, '02, '01 as well...

Fifa 2004 looks wonderful, and nothing beats beign able to play an 'actual' season. The money system however isn't nothing much to write home about tho'. Plus, the music is absolute crap. Waste of space.

I'm not a Fifa hater, I'm not a Konami emplyee either. But I have pretty much shelved '04 since I got WE6I in the mail.

Fifa seems rushed. I relaize it can't be easy to hone in and perfect a game engine, when you completely scrap it and start over every year. But, the passing just isn't up to snuff. What's really wrong though, is that it's damn near impossible to lead players with the ball sometimes. The passes always seem short and the player turns back to get it. They never let it run ahead of them into space. The OTB maybe good/ it may not be... it may get better with time... but the fact is, you don't friggin' need it. Fifa is nice in some ways. I don't think it is nearly as bad as people make it out to be. But the fact is, it's just not as smooth as its komani counterpart.

So, with the passing system it has now, it's very cumbersome to unlock the defense with that final pass and unrealistic when u actually do it. Also, 40 yard scorchers get old quick. However, you can fix that easier than the whole pasing system.

Oh my word. My mate and I were the BIGGEST FIFA fans and despised Pro Evo. i have now come to my senses and think Pro Evo is far better than FIFA. Old chummy boy disagrees and has just got FIFA 2004. IT IS CR@P. We both feel that and he worships the franchise.

It is FAR TOO EASY to tackle in Fifa, and almost impossible to beat defenders with the ball. I do think that the music is fantastic and the commentary is pretty good (ever heard the commentary on NHL 2003, bloody hilarious, the best I have heard on a game.). Overall I think it is very slow and too easy to defend. PRO EVO ALL THE WAY BABY.......

I dont think it should be avoided at all costs, it is a good game (well fifa 2003 is) to just pick up and play straight away, good for playing your mates who come round. Pro Evo is much harder and hence better and makes it not so good to play newbies on!!!

Compared to PES3/WE7:

1.) I've always preferred the graphics in the PES games actually, more organic, so to speak.
2.) Yep.
3.) Apart from the Sky Sports-esque presentation feel that FIFA has, I'm not really bothered.
4.) Bah, cut-scenes, you get them in PES3 too. All I care about is which colour the card the ref pulls out of his front pocket is going to be. A little confrontation between the players would be nice though. Does FIFA 2004 do that?
5.) PES3 has some very good player faces too, and it's fair share of horrendous ones, just like FIFA.
6.) Agreed, although this is something Konami can easily work on.
7.) Definitely. A huge database of teams is what I hope Konami strive for in future versions.
8.) When I patch a game, I can add whatever music I want (music which I like).
9.) Nice touch, but hardly "beautiful".

Those pictures aren't going to impress me so you'll have to find some better ones. I was expecting something very "beautiful".
The fifa menus don't look great and are quite bad at fulfilling their actual purpose which is to help you navigate the game. PES3 menus do this much better and you know where everything is, such as the Edit mode and the Controller configuration settings ;)

So which music does fifa play for goal replays and during matches? Cos that is what counts most. If you want to compare music during the menus, you might be interested in devices called stereos. Plus you can put in any songs you want into PES.

Erm Zyg i sense a bit of aggression in your posts, i am not saying fifa is better than pes3 (we have already had that discussion) and i have said pes3 is better. :)

We are now talking about the looks of both games, and obviously if you take pes3(not patched, and no option file) and fifa 2004 (not patched, and no saved games)

That pic above of Del Peiro shows how good it looks, which is why i play it.
When i want a good football match against good cpu teams pes3 is the first thing in my ps2.
You should see the amount of times i shout at fifa, u would think i was mental.when i played both fifa 2003 and pes2 i broke 2 of my contollers because of them annoying me(mainly fifa) :mad:

And agree with the above post, because i am a football fan so i like to play football games so i don't care if its club football,fifa,pes3 or even TIF. The point is their all good in their own rights which is why i own and have played them all. :)

Seem you've been brainwashed with all their past advertising if you buy a game without knowing how good or bad it is. Their ads came out while before the game so it's not easy to understand how someone could miss them.

There is one thing wrong with it - it looks more like a martian than del piero. There are PES players who can kick a ball and make it look better. They may or may not have used human beings but you can't say they did for sure based on your supplied pics.

EA must be laughing all the way to the bank to know that someone over 14 loves their game so much....

I know my computer games and i know that although it will not beat pes3 it will be a good game every year.

and ea will have used real humans for their player models, they use del peiro him self and stick all those things to him so his movement is recorded on the game.

Zyg, adverts have little to nothing to do with the game. I live in USA... I can't even get a second champions league game on a matchday. It gets crowded out b/c of bowling, curling, tractor pulls, or bass fishing. Fifa commercials do little or nothing for me. Plus I saw the early videos of '04 and I was skeptical at first as to if the game would play fluently. Which I don't think it does, which is why it is collecting dust...

Probably the biggest reason anyone who has PES even likes fifa is this. There is no more gratifying feeling than playing a full season w/ your team, in their stadia, with beautiful kits. Playing Cup matches. [In my case FA and League] and then going on into europe. PES/WE has a wonderul career mode, but it's not the same. Could be better, could be worse, but it's not the same as real life.

That is probably why I am not a big fan of club football teams[in PES] as much as internationals. The initial reason I decided to reach out to the konami games was b/c I couldn't play with the dutch national team. In the end it works out great b/c I enjoy the games. But everyone has their reasons.

It'd just be nice to see some better comments than "SUCKS BIG TIME" or "ITS SHIT"

Got Fifa yesterday, and I have to say, its complete SHITE!

Seriously, its far too slow, the graphics are terrible (the likes of van Nistlerooy, Henry, et al look class, but the rest are shite), the controls are pap, you cant sprint properly, and you need to master this off the ball crap to simply make another player run in space. Really, I dont think I'll ever play it again.

My advice - stick to PES.

fifa is quality on the xbox. if you play it on 2 mins rather then 4 it will go faster and they only bother with the first team players rather then the subs.

fifa can not be has good has pes3. i remember when on fifa 2000 all u had to do is keep tapping the speed button run like mad and score.on fifa i would win with a high score and some times score from the same spot.pes /2/3 unable to do that all the time. its great when u have a big win on pes3. fifa leave it alone and wake up to realy football PES3.

Saha and Bellion are "one's for the future" and Bellion wont be a striker as such, more of a winger. Forlan is a trier, but not prolific, his early season form has long since vanished.

i would have liked to have seen a bid for Christian Vieri. even if he wasn't CL eligible, he could have allowed RvN to be rested for 5-6 league games and i'm sure RvN couldv'e have managed in Europe by himself for this season.

Saha has scored 13 or 14 league goals this year, that translates to 19-20 at United, (hopefully)

i said in another thread, i'm not sure how much he will play. maybe 15-20 starts a season? not enough really, i dont like this

I sorta gotta agree. 4-4-2 is what we need at the moment because when the players aren't at their best the 4-4-1-1 doesn't work. It has worked wonders in the past because the movement in the side is so good but to often at the moment Rudd's not getting enough support. I think we shud sort of play the 4-5-1 we played for a bit towards the end of last season with the 2 wingers providing support when we went forward giving us more of a 4-3-3.

yeah I like fifa, but i've never given it the time to get any good at it. pro evo's just better. i'm just so used to playing football the 'pro evo way' that when i play fifa its such a change. the sorta beautiful passing moves into the box goals you can score on pro evo just seem to hard to do becasue it seems impossible to score inside the box on any mode other than amature
