Well now this is a certain change from the usual! Tell us, who is the next best thing to come out of Norway?

Well, Rosenborg used to be dominant, but they finished 7th out of 14 teams in Tippeligaen in 2005 - Vålerenga won. Now, in the 2006 season, Brann is currently the leaders - but they lost 4-0 to Ham-Kam in their last game.

Here's the table for Tippeligaen (Norwegian Premier League):

Brann 12 7 4 1 19-11 25
Lillestrøm 11 6 3 2 19-12 21
Rosenborg 12 4 6 2 17-13 18
Stabæk 12 3 7 2 18-14 16
Vålerenga 12 4 4 4 15-13 16
Ham-Kam 12 4 3 5 18-14 15
Odd Grenland 11 3 6 2 14-11 15
Sandefjord 12 4 3 5 13-18 15
Lyn 12 4 3 5 12-17 15
Viking 12 3 5 4 10-12 14
Molde 12 4 2 6 13-17 14
Fredrikstad 12 3 4 5 16-22 13
Start 12 2 6 4 10-14 12
Tromsø 12 2 4 6 11-17 10

Do you want me to make this a Tippeligaen (Norwegian Premier League) thread instead? If you want I'll write about my team, Aalesund, too. :)

TRANSFER SPECULATIONS

Fredrik Strømstad - Start -> Brann
Magne Hoset - Vålerenga -> Molde
Frode Johnsen - Rosenborg -> Dinamo Moscow (Russia), Nagoya Grampus Eight (Japan)
Espen Johnsen - Rosenborg -> Tromsø

Is Tore Andre Flo still with Valerenga. And if so, has he rediscovered his form?

@Dan19: Tommy Høiland? Never heard of him. Are you talking about Jon Inge Høiland (Malmö FF, Sweden, I think)?

Sindre Løe Bing? No one (well, almost no one) in Norway knows him, since he's a junior player of a very unknown team - Brandval/Brane - I think they're a sixth division team, or something like that...

Daz_Rangers51: Yes, he's still at Vålerenga, and his form is quite good. He scored two goals when Vålerenga defeated Stabæk before the summer break. He also scored a goal in the 4-1 win v Sandefjord on Sunday.

Is Daniel Braaten any good? I thought he played well when I saw him against Madrid, but can't really tell how good he is from 1 game :) How about Magne Hoseth?

Also, Man U have signed a youngster from Molde (Eircom or something), have you heard anything about him?

And finally, what do you think of the Norway national team at the moment?

Yes, Daniel Braaten is quite good. He's a bit lazy at times, and he's not a good goal scorer, but he's a good dribbler and playmaker.

Magne Hoset (yes, without the "h" ;)) is decent, but he's not one of the best players in the league. I'm not to fond of him personally, 'cause he's a spitter and diver - and he used to play for Molde, the rivals of my club - but apart from that, he's decent.

Isn't Eircom the sponsor of the Irish national team? :D Anyway, his name is Magnus Wolff Eikrem, and he used to play for the Molde reserves (unable to play in the A team 'cause he's only 15). I've seen him play a few times, and I was impressed. A great signing for Man U - I think he'll be great in the Premiership in a few years. ;)

I'm not to fond of the Norwegian national team, actually, nor are most Norwegians. In fact, they struggle to have more than 10.000 at each home game - and most of those tickets are for sponsors! The Norwegian players and the coach are always saying that they'll qualify for every tournament, and the Norwegian people believe it - but I don't. Norway haven't been in a major championship since Euro 2000, where they were playing boring football and were knocked out of the group phase. There's some good club players in the team, like Morten Gamst Pedersen and John Arne Riise (he's from my city, and there's a statue of him outside my club's stadium), but them all suck when playing for Norway. In a public survey a few weeks ago, 45% of the Norwegians believed that Norway will defeat Brazil in the game against them in October!

I'll be very surprised if Norway will qualify for the Euro 2008 in Austria and Switzerland... ;)

Just to let you guys know, I've updated the first post of this thread. :)

Sorry about the spelling mistakes mate  I think Norway have been pretty unlucky to be fair, having to play Czech Rep. in a play-off to qualify for this WC, and Spain for euro 2004. Looking at Norways qualifying group, I think Norway have a very good chance of progressing. Greece are in Norways group, and at the moment, Greeces position in international football is very uncertain, and I heard the team is suspended  The only other dangerous team seems to be Turkey (the other teams are Hungary, Bosnia, Moldova and Malta, all beatable teams for Norway). I hope that I'm right and they do qualify anyway :(

The spelling mistake was a little funny - and some Norwegian names are difficult to remember, even for Norwegians. ;)

You may have a good point, but I think Bosnia will be very hard to beat - they almost qualified to the WC with tough teams like Spain and Serbia & Montenegro in their group. If Greece is suspended, that's great for Norway, but even Moldova is a threat for Norway sometimes. We won 3-0 against them about 8 months ago, I think, but they were better than expected.

Even as a Norwegian, I honestly hope we won't qualify for the Euro 2008 or WC 2010, at least not until we get some better players. Sure, it was a great feeling for our nation in the 1998 WC when Kjetil Rekdal scored on the winning penalty in the 88th minute against Brazil (2-1), and partly in the Euro 2000, but the Norwegian people doesn't care much about the national team anymore. I'm a guy who likes great football, and I don't think we can get that from Norway, at least not before the WC 2010 - so I hope we won't qualify - for the good of the game. ;)

EDIT: Can a mod change the thread title to "Norwegian football", please? Thanks. :)

@barryvs: Well, our coach, Åge Hareide, almost never has the same players on the field for two matches in a row. Here's the best players in my opinion:

GK Myhre (Charlton)

DEF Bergdølmo (FC København)
DEF Hagen (Zenit St. Petersburg)
DEF Hangeland (FC København)
DEF Riise (Liverpool)

MID Valencia (Start
MID Andresen (Brann)
MID Svindal Larsen (Odd Grenland)
MID Gamst Pedersen (Blackburn Rovers)

ST Carew (Lyon)
ST Solskjær (Manchester United)
