View Full Version : Birmingham City
I know there were a couple of threads last year eg "The Official Birmingham City are crap" thread (or something to that effect), but new season new division so I thought I would try again.
Anyway, IMHO, however weak our manager is Birmingham should still have the players and resources to climb out of the Championship at the first attempt. If we dont we could be in for a terrible few years.
Just found this poll that I thought quite interesting and reflects a bit of what I think

Bruce needs to remove doubts among fansJul 13 2006
By Colin Tattum, Birmingham Mail
JUST under two-thirds of Blues fans do not think Steve Bruce should be manager, or are unsure of his ability.
According to our exclusive fans survey, which attracted several hundred entries, 65 per cent of fans polled didn't think Blues were ambitious enough.
And almost half surveyed predicted that Blues would face the nightmare of the Championship play-offs next season. A quarter (27.1 per cent) felt Blues were nailed on for automatic promotion, while a small number (3.9 per cent) forsee a relegation battle.
Bruce came under heavy fire last season as Blues slipped out of the Premiership on the back of a 7-0 St Andrew's drubbing in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

But St Andrew's was never to a man, woman and child up in arms and demanding his dismissal.
Our survey showed that 34 per cent of fans believed he remained the right man for the job, with 31 per cent saying not and 34 per cent undecided.
Understandably, the majority of fans expect a better season than the last one.
Bruce's transfer dealings were rated 'poor' by almost 52 per cent of fans, with only six people in every 100 pleased with his overall signings.
Most Blues fans are happy with the goalkeeping role with just 19.4 per cent wanting to see that position strengthening. Of more pressing need are the defence and attack, with more than four out of five fans feeling that both areas needed bolstering.
Just under one in five people (18.6 per cent) claim St Andrew's has slipped behind other grounds in terms of facilities, although nearly half were pleased with stewarding.
As for prices, 92 per cent gave a thumbs down, insisting season tickets cost too much with almost as many unhappy with matchday pricing.
Damien Johnson was named as Blues top player (45.7 per cent of votes), which mirrored the official award. Jermaine Pennant was a distant second, with Maik Taylor in third.
Dudley Campbell, Mat Sadler and Jerome were touted by fans as players to watch in 2006-07.

We smashed the Gibraltar national team 6-0 in Malaga today.
DJ Campbell got a hat trick, Neil Danns, Martin Taylor and Damien Johnson got the other three.
Also, a Blues XI(probably made up of reserves and academy players) drew 2-2 with Hereford at their shitsnest.
Oh and Barny, Luton scraped a 2-1 win away from home against Stevenage. Come on, we put 5 past a conference team, and you barely win.

Lost 2-0 yesterday to Spurs but the fans showed what to expect next season as there was fighting all the way from St Andrews to the bottom of Digbeth. And over a hundred of fans were thrown out for throwing stuff at the Spurs fans Brought back a few memories - it was like the Leeds game from 1985

The fact that Spurs had a £10.9 mil striker up front was the difference between us. Two moments of magic won them the game.

Fans' night out with Bruce and Brady July 20 2006
BLUES fans who have yet to renew their season tickets with the club have been invited to a 'night out' with Karren Brady and Steve Bruce who want to know why.
Fans of the city club will get to question and challenge the managing director and manager over a glass of wine and hear about plans for the club's campaign to return to the Premiership.
The invitation tells fans: "It looks as if you may have forgotten us, but we have definitely not forgotten you. You haven't renewed your season ticket... and we would really like to understand why.
"Steve also wants to tell you about his plans for next season and I want to give you a number of options for renewing your season ticket, so that's why we are inviting you to come and have a glass of wine, chat and share your thoughts and feelings with the two of us in an informal environment.

"This is the ideal opportunity for you to put your questions to us and hear what we are planning for the club for the coming season."
The get-togethers will take place in the Gold Suite at the St Andrew's ground on July 25, 26 and 28. There will be 3 sessions per evening: 6.15pm, 7.15pm and 8.15pm.

I write with regards to an invitation I have received, by post, to share a drink with you and Steve Bruce and to discuss my reasons for not renewing my season ticket.
I am disappointed for this invitation to arrive leaving me so little time to re arrange previously made plans, so that I could accept this invitation. Unfortunately it has ultimately arrived too late, as I would have gladly accepted if reasonable notice had been given.
So now it seems I will miss out on this wonderful opportunity to meet both you and Steve Bruce, and to see a part of the stadium I have not previously seen, not to mention the gift of the Official 2006 Guide. However I will take the time now to share my views with you and reasons for not renewing my ticket. Some are economic reasons whereas some may be purely my own reasons and a couple may be not what anyone wants to hear but ultimately they all contributed to my decision not to renew my season ticket.
As we all know last season didn’t go as well as anyone predicted and hoped but last season was not really anything that we should be surprised at. During the season before last, after such a good start, we experienced terrible results during the second half of the season. So it wasn’t only one season when the team played poorly. The problem has been going on for much longer than that.
When Steve Bruce arrived everyone felt the atmosphere around the club reach a high as promotion was won and the first season in the Premiership saw some great games and when Christophe Dugarry arrived their was a flair to go with the hunger and desire. People couldn’t wait for match day to come around – that feeling has long since disappeared.
And to make matters worse Steve Bruce’s interviews on television last year were embarrassing to me. Referees were always at fault or strikers didn’t put one of the two chances we created away. Two chances ? He blames strikers because we can only create two chances. And who was it that sold Morrison ? Pandiani ? (after he had even moved his family here and bought a house.) And Steve Bruce also bought a player that might have never played again in Mikael Forsell.
Steve Bruce always said we were involved in a battle and the quality of football would suffer accordingly – well Portsmouth didn’t fight but instead played their way out of their problems. Why didn’t Birmingham City ?
The Birmingham team didn’t seem to show much urgency even as late as the last home game against Newcastle where the team played as though a draw would be enough. He always blamed injuries, which annoys me on two counts. Firstly the players who came into the side to replace those injured were brought in by the manager so who is to blame if they are not good enough ? And what kind of vote of confidence did he give them ? none in my opinion. Secondly it was no surprise when players became injured. Steve Bruce seems to buy players that no other clubs want. David Dunn is a fantastic player yet we are all too aware of his problems with injury so how can we rely on him to play all season ? Muzzy Izzet had always has injury problems and Forsell was rejected by Everton on fitness grounds. I’ve just mentioned t three players and hopefully Forsell and Dunn will turn out to be good acquisitions but it was fairly obvious that they wouldn’t have been available for most of last season so to rely on them was wrong. Jermaine Pennant wasn’t wanted by clubs for other reasons and hopefully Steve Bruce will be proved right in the long run with his signing, but when I heard stories last year of chasing players like Lee Bowyer, another player with questionable history, I asked myself why not look at players that we know will do a good job on a regular basis without any dramas or problems ?
Two other signings that annoyed me were Nicky Butt and Alex Bruce. I wont go into what it says to me when a manager signs his own son but I found the Nicky Butt signing to be outrageous. He earns more money whilst asleep at night than most of us earn in a week and did very little to improve the team. His signing is openly commented upon in terms of “jobs for the boys” following Steve Bruce’s time at Manchester United. From what little we saw Neil Kilkenny looked a far better player, yet was hardly used.
Steve Bruce definitely has his favourites. Damian Johnson is one but he, last year, did play very well. But what does Maik Taylor have to be dropped from the team ? He made some terrible errors last season. Another player, Olivier Tebily, came into the side towards the end of last season and played well. He had one indifferent game and was immediately dropped to make way for Mario Melchiot who has shown very little to suggest he actually wanted to play for Birmingham City.
I could continue but this just does appear to be a basing all my grievances on the head of Steve Bruce, which perhaps is unfair, but as the manager I do feel he has to accept responsibility for the team and the way they play. The team selections and tactics have all been lacking in my opinion. I may be no expert and I also may be very wrong in my opinions but they are simply that – my opinions and it is my choice of whether to renew my season ticket.
More generally I was disappointed when his job was guaranteed in the press by one of the Gold Brothers last year, regardless of what position in the Premier Division the club finished. Why was this done ? Surely if someone isn’t performing then they should be asked to leave so that someone else can come in and do a better job, regardless of how much money would be lost over compensation etc
I also have more general reasons for not renewing my ticket. Season tickets have been expensive for years and over the past few seasons, admittedly due to the fixture arrangement in the Premier Division, an increasing amount of matches were played during alternative hours i.e. not at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. And do season ticket holders ever get offered anything when special deals such as “Kids for a quid” occur ? Events such as this are just an insult for season ticket holders.
Night games are a nightmare for fans, like me, that use the train from Moor Street Station as the trains are timed so that you have to either leave early or wait until 10.30pm to catch a train meaning I don’t get home until about 11.30 which is late for a weekday. (As with fixture timings no blame can be apportioned to Birmingham City FC for this).
As I suggested earlier in this correspondence, going to games last year was a chore. I didn’t look forward to many and only went as my ticket had already been bought and paid for. This year I can pick and choose which games I want to see. I can avoid games played at alternative times and if the team continue to play in the same fashion as last year I can stay away without it costing me anything. Regardless of whether the team is successful or not I wanted to be entertained and last year I wasn’t.
Sorry if this correspondence seems negative and also I must stress I feel no malice towards the current manager. Football is a game of opinions and mine is only one opinion and it may differ from many. I hope that he can prove me wrong this season and I also hope that the style of football is both successful and entertaining. If that is the case then I see no reason stopping me attending games on a frequent basis.
Finally I would like to thank you for your invitation to discuss matters, but unfortunately I could not make it. I hope my letter is read though, and perhaps it will be taken into account in some small way when future plans are made.

Signed two Arsenal Reserve players/fringe players on a season long loan. Both midfield, both seem pretty decent.
Fabrice Muamba and Sebastian Larsson. Muamba is an 18 YO England Youth player and Larsson is a 21 YO swede.
Bruce and Sullivan had stated that they want 2 or 3 more players, and at least one striker.
This could be an interesting season.

Muamba is an aggressive midfielder. He can play as a defensive midfielder or a centre back. He is very strong and good in the tackle. He has looked pretty good for Arsenal in the Carling Cup against Sunderland. Larsson can play as an cm/attacking midfielder or as a left winger. He is a player who is more on the creative side me thinks. He is a good free kick taker.
Both players have looked good in the Carling Cup for Arsenal last season.
Larsson is also good cover defensively, and I think it was him playing in that position against Birmingham last season that caught Bruce's eye. Left, Right and Centre...he's the man across the middle and back of the pitch. Only thing he can't do is play striker!

Well I'd say he is a bit weak defensively. He can play as a LB, but he didn't look comfortable as one.

Birmingham are set at Left back with Sadler who came in from the youth team/reserves and played very well last year, and Julian Gray.
Typical Bruce though, buting utility players rather than players that can do one thing and do it well

My brother would probably disagree with you there. He's a Luton fan and says, quite rightly, blues are a pile of rancid shit.
Furlong i believe retired and spends his time selling dead foetus's which he robbed from the bins of abortion clinics. He offers them to QPR fans outside Loftus Road and judging rightly that eating a dead baby would be better than watching their shit team, they often buy one and run off home

Nah down past the ground, down the country lanes, a little Cottage in Hopwood/Alvechurch. Weird because it B38 and B48 for some reason. But the burgers from Kings Norton fish bar were Beaut'!
Just dont go in The Dingle pub in Northfield, bit rough in there

Dingle? I'm from Yorkshire, I should have no problems with Dingle's! I do keep getting told to keep my voice down when we out. Apparently Brum doesnt like Leeds very much. Is that true? Cause all ive had is the piss taken out of my accent down their (but not in a nasty way) which is funny. I didnt realise I pronounced my O's so much. Real eye opener for me!
But I have to go to Tyseley where she lives now.

No Leeds isnt a very popular place down here. I dont know how old you are but in 1985, the same day as the Bradford fire, all hell broke loose at St Andrews. They were fighting everywhere and I mean everywhere. I can remember seeing Leeds fans with pick axes digging up terracing and throwing it. There were several pitch invasions, fighting in town and police horses on the field at least 3 times during the game. I remember Eddie Gray (manager at the time)coming on to the field to appeal to the Leeds fans. It was the day a lad got killed when a wall went over on top of him. It was a 3 o clock kick off and the match didnt end until gone 6. That was one hell of a scary day for a 16 year old I can tell you.
Then there was all the fighting during the league cup semi final at both legs in 1996. Basically they fight every time they meet.
By the way Tyseley is real Blues area. I pass through there to get into town. Bit of a shit hole really

im 19, yeah I heard about what them dickhead service crew twats did to that kid, I only found out about it last year but didnt think that was the main reason. Yeh ive noticed Tyseley bit shite but its better than living all that way in Hopwood, used to take four hours travelling from leeds to brum, then city centre to kings norton, then walking all way down them muddy lanes!

I dont think that thats the major reason. I just think that there are teams that dont get on. Leeds have always had one the nastier football "crews" and so have Birmingham. Youve also got the likes of West Ham, Millwall, Swansea, Cardiff, Leicester and Stoke. I dont think idiots that follow these clubs will ever get on.
I on the other hand get on with everyone as proved my weekend in West Yorkshire 2 weeks ago, when I sampled the nightlife in Halifax.

I go past on the train as I am staying at my parents. I can go down the Warwick Road but I would normally use the Stratford Road, or even skirt round and travel past Maypole and into town that way.
BTW Subway City is a gay club. That is if you are talking about the one in St Pauls Square.

Fair enough but I am afraid I am bit too oldd fashioned for that scene. It is the one under the arches. Wouldnt go telling too many people from Tyseley you go there though.

Yeh? I dont know any people in Tyseley, only my girlfriend, but I'll do as you suggest and keep it shush!
But getting back to the thread Leeds play Brum at Home 23rd September. What are Blues chances of getting back up you think? I reckon they got a stronger squad than last season with Jerome, the Bolton 2 at the back and the Arsenal loanee's.
I think anything less than automatic promotion will be deemed as unacceptable. They should finish in the top three but as we proved last year having the players doesnt mean anything if the team selection and tactics are no good.

The thing with Leeds last season was using the right tactics but fielding the weaker side. Butler, Gregan and Crainey they were rubbish. Leeds should have been playing Kilgallon and Walton (I think he should even though he's still young) at the back, and Harding at Left Back. But you just couldnt beleive why Blues were playing so shite.

Steve Bruce lost it thats why. The players had no faith in him whatsoever. He played his favourites over those in form. His tactics were terrible.
He blames it all on injuries and biased referees - of course no other team in the world has to cope with such problems

I just tell you this thing. The first time I came to Brum last year, I noticed loads of B.C.F.C tags across the city. So I said to my girlfriend "Theirs loads of Bradford City fans down here isn't there?" She couldnt believe it, I couldn't! I felt blonde for a moment! (Shes a scum fan anyway.) Colchester tomorrow, whats your prediction for full time? Brucie out if they draw or lose, or even win?
Bruce wont lose this game tomorrow, in fact Blues will win The Championship and everyone will suddenly think he is a good manager again. Its a shame because he should have been sacked months ago - the only thing that prevented that was the huge compensation they would have to play him if he did leave early.
The players will take Birmingham up this year but any time that tactics are a defining factor we will suffer as he really is inadequate.

Oi Brummies. Astonvilla got themselves a new classy manager, Martin O'Neill, the previous Celtic manager that is. Astonvilla back on the champions lane, watch out!
P.s. I'm assuming non of you's is an Astonvilla fan because i can't find the Astonvilla thread.

Larsson looked decent from what I saw, Bendtner's finish was quality.
Muamba didn't play I don't think

I believe he raised an arm after being tackled or something like that. To be fair...the opposing player apparently went to the ref and said it wasn't a foul so it wasn't exactly Carvalho style squirming all over the place!!!
What a way to debut though...getting sent off

Well they were champs at some point of time weren't they? I was quite surprised when i found out they have a champs league title in their closet.

They won the league a few times but that was before most homes had televisions.
They did win it in 1981 (I think) but that was before most people on this site were born.
Good to see Bendtner and Larsson help the Blues!!! Second straight goal for the Dane in as many games...impressive!
Early season title contenders....maybe...maybe not...but the Arsenal lads sure reminded Wenger they aren't here to make up the numbers this time round!

Johnson apologises to Blues fansAug 21 2006
BLUES captain Damien Johnson has issued an apology to the club's supporters after causing uproar at St Andrews.
Johnson threw his armband and shirt to the turf after being substituted during the weekend's 2-1 home win over Crystal Palace and has now been disciplined by manager Steve Bruce.
In a statement posted on Blues' official website bcfc.com the 27-year-old said: "When the subs were read out there was a huge cheer from the fans which I took to mean the fans were glad I was being taken off - and after more than four years of service for the club, that really hurt.
"I have been told I misread the reaction of the crowd and if that is the case I am sorry and I hope the supporters can appreciate that.
"I give Birmingham City my complete dedication and will continue to do so and I hope that my passion on the field can show everybody that I totally mean what I am saying. Once again I wholeheartedly apologise."
No Damien you did not misread the reaction of the crowd - they were booing you as on Saturday you played shite !!!
Well...it seems like the Arsenal boys are really going for it! Muamba, Larsson and Bendtner all featured for the Blues as they nudged through 1-0 against Boston. The Dane linked up with the Swede to scored 7 minutes from time I believe...good work!

He hasnt started all the games. He is 19 and pretty tall and very good in the air. He can run at people and does seem to have an eye for goal.
Of 4 League Games he has started 3 times, and scored 2 goals - as a sub against Colchester and as a starter against Crystal Palace. He came on as a substitute in last night's league cup game.

If the shit wants out, then let him. I'd rather we have players who want to play for the shirt than bigheaded gashes like him. Plus tbh, I really did like the Jaidi Ngotty connection we had start of the season lol.
Oh, and Dunn only did a couple memorable things for us in the time he has been here. 1)falling over the ball against the Vile and 2)doing that blonde one from Emmerdale.

Ive been arguing that for months never mind whether we buy Vine or not.
I do hope we keep Upson though. Apart from the goal, which was definitely his fault, against Newcastle last week, he is definitely the class act in our defence.
And Dunn single handedly destroyed Villa when we beat them 2-1 at their place 2 years ago, but saying that he isnt fit often enough and for the salary he gets he is a luxury which I dont know if we should keep.

dunn is a good player he is just unproven becuase he is injured when he plays 4 or 5 games in arow and not get injured then you will see the full force of david dunn
jaidi and n gotty are a good partnership tbh i think n gotty is not that good upson is better but i see what you mean about bighead upson so i agree with you there if he wants to move let him.

Because if we move Mcshef up front, we lose creativity in midfield.
I have huge belief in Cameron Jerome tbh, and cannot wait to see him start performing as he should be. Leave him with bendtner and he will prosper. Infact, I think we should just start playing Dudley and Cameron upfront more often, they are our players(unlike bendtner) and we should be trying to build their partnership more.

We didn rob Fields of Athenry, in that you are correct at least. Add fuel to your fire we also sing Scouser Tommy to the tune of The Sash my Father wore. Do I care ? No. I can just admit it but then that is not our anthem, You'll Never Walk Alone is, and there is something very sad about singing an anthem another club sang first. Different in Celtic's case as they have the same passionate support as us and our clubs are linked with a mutual respect and special bond.
So we should boo the team off the pitch at the end of games, like say, oh I don't know the self proclaimed "greatest fans ever" the Toon "Army". What kind of army doesn't show up to battle just because it is snowing? Army my ass. Then again the Toon Army could mean the T.A or part time soldier.

Keep right on to the top of the league
Keep right on to the top
Though the way is long
We've got Smith and Strong
Keep right on to the top
Though we're tired and weary
Still carry on
Til we get to the top of the league
And when we're top
You will hear the Kop
Singin'
Liverpoo-ol Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Liverpoo-ol Hallelujah, Hallelujah
[both arms raised to the heavens in suitable veneration of our team]
Everto-on Peculiar, Peculiar
Everto-on Peculiar, Peculiar

2. Can't be assed.
I am sure they will tell you that the original song as sang by the Kop was.....
Keep right on to the top of the league
Keep right on to the top
Though the way is long
We've got Smith and Strong
Keep right on to the top
Though we're tired and weary
Still carry on
Til we get to the top of the league
And when we're top
You will hear the Kop
Singin'
Liverpoo-ol Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Liverpoo-ol Hallelujah, Hallelujah
[both arms raised to the heavens in suitable veneration of our team]
Everto-on Peculiar, Peculiar
Everto-on Peculiar, Peculiar
[loud derogatory laugh]
So wait, are you saying you guys created the song? I know my history about the song, and you're way off matey. We took the song as written by Henry Lauder when his son died during WWI, 1918 i think and started using it in the mid 50's. Tommy Smith and Geoff Strong didn't start playing together till the early 60's, which means that you nobs didn't start using it till at least hmm, 64?
So fuck off back to whatever shit hole you crawled out of from under the kop, and go sodomise some babies.

Funny that Panorama seem to think that chanting to well known songs didn't happen till the 60's and was actually the birth child of the Kop. Spion Kop was in 1900. Alot of blokes from the staffordshire and warwickshire regiments would have died in great numbers. The scousers who lost the lives were around the few hundreds after the infamous "shit explosion massacre" when the boers blew up a huge male lavatory crushing all the vermin within.
A sad day if i gave a shit.

Your pitch got relaid cause it was shit.
It was relaid with the spare pitch for the new Wembley. Every teams relais their pitches during the season at some point, but ours just hasnt had a chance to selltle properly because of the extreme rain weve had this week. We wont get done by the FA once they see what the problem has been - we had to relay it because the previous one was becoming dangerous, as the injury to Bendtner proved.

However, ticket prices and fair weather fans have ruined this.

Just go and sign the highest scorer in the Plymouth Sunday League. Send Steve Bruce a letter saying this kid is the next Trevor Francis and we will pay 7m for him without having even seen him play. We will but him even if he is injured - didnt seem to bother Bruce when we bought Forsell or Dunn

also i wish bham dont win on wednesday because then we can focus on the leauge and getting promoted. there is no more gap now! yes me may have a game in had but still i say get promoted first then think about additional cups! of we do win the well done but we are bound to not win the cup any way. the way arsenal are playing and we end up playing them after newcastle and the next round then what was the point of actualy plaing for the cup. few grand. well im sure gold has more cash in his socks.

Well tonights the night where we can see if we have improved or not.
David Dunn has rejoined Blackburn for an undosclosed fee, which suggests we are giving him back for peanuts compared to what we paid for him - great player but if he can pass fitness tests at Blackburn and Bolton why dont we keep him ? or is the fact that he is fit why we are selling him ? Pity fitness wasnt an issue when you wasted all that money on Forsell, Bruce you dimebar.
agreed, but we are winning without him so let him go he want's to let him when we are in the premiership we will show him why it was a big mistake for him to leave us!
We are winning in the Championship - BIG DEAL !!!
We are still worse than most of the teams in the Premiership, 3 years ago we were better than half the teams in that division.
true but, we dont know that yet untill we play them, also we need focus on promotion then think about other things like te fa cup and carling cup!
its settled birmingham won! 4-1! 4-1! 4-1!

d.jhonson was the best on the pitch

Great game for a bluenose to watch!
Our defence was superb.
McSheffers and Larsson on the wings always looked like doing their men.
Damien Johnson was brilliant in keeping track wit Dyer. The only time I saw Dyer lose him was that onside miss he had which was falsley flagged as off.
Muamba cannot pass for shit, but his presence was enough to put some off.
Campbell and Jerome were always a threat, and looked great together. We need to play em together more, and seeing as Bendtner is injured, we're gonna see it more.

Larsson and McSheffrey impressed me greatly last night. McSheffery's ability to cut inside and Larsson's ability to whip in a great cross will be a good combination for you if you come up.
Muamba was shocking. Yes, I realise this may not have been his best performance, but he looks slow, doesn't seem to have any turn of speed and his passing was atrocious.
The two lads up top were brilliant - especially Jerome.
That was definitely Muambs worst game but defensively he was good. His passing was terrible but I was still relatively happy with his performance.
But I think I am the only one not high on Mc Sheffrey. For me he gives the ball away too much and I still think he is too greedy.
Upson on the other hand was fantastic!

Larsson will be agood player for us. He is, in my opinion, a better fit than Pennant was, and doesnt come with all the negatives surrounding Pennant.
I am not saying McSheffrey is a bad player. I just dont think he is as good as everyone says he is. I dont think he will be an outstanding player in the Premiership which is where I am comparing him with.
jonno394
18-01-2007, 11:54
Larsson is so versatile he is a player we must get. He can play DL, DR, MR, MC, ML. He also has a few tricks in his bag, and sure as hell can cross a ball.
Stella Artois
18-01-2007, 11:54
No, but he'd do you a job and he's no worse than Luis Boa Morte, for example. The one thing he definitely has is the eye for a goal.
The thing I am impressed about last nights game is that we didnt seem to get caught once by Martins or Dyer's pace. I thought Sadler handled Milner pretty well, but I still dont think we half the team we were two years ago and that is why I cant stand Bruce.

See that's why your shit team should have laid down and died at St. Andrews 3 weeks ago so we could ease through and then have steamed past Reading today. Your win was rendered pointless. Shit team.
.
Blues showed yesterday, why they went down last year. They were as good if not better than Reading, but defensive errors (Taylor) and missed chances meant a loss.
When I say they were as good as thats because Reading were nothing special. I think of my thread a few months ago when I tried to stress the point that teams worry about the result more than the performance. Now yesterday Blues were ok but they where did all the passion go ? we are meant to be an in form team at home. So what that Reading are doing ok in the Premier league. That means nothing as these two teams played last year and Birmingham beat them. Reading arent a Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal etc so why did we give them so much respect ? All they are is a hard working side that stays organised - Birmingham should have beaten them, and overall probably deserved to at least get something from the game.
Yesterday was like two boxers jabbing each other all night, and when it came down to the decision both boxers thought they had done enough - I want to beat teams properly and clearly.
The worrying thing is that if you take the top 5 or 6 teams from the Premiership, teams like Reading are what you are left with. Wake up Steve Bruce !!! we lost at home to one of these teams - if we get promoted we have to play teams like this every week. Repeat this every week and we will get relagated immediately. Keeping games tight and waiting for that bit of luck to win the game is bull - you proved that last year. Play to win not to keep it tight.
And sell Upson and you will have a riot on your hands, he is the best player in that team by a mile. Taylor, is too inconsisitent. Jaidi is too slow and Tebily is too busy thinking of anything but the game. We need Upson !!!
