Man Utd 3-1 Porto
Inter Milan 1-1 Ajax
I thought Man utd played quite well, especially when they went down to 10 men & the ref was just stupid. Rooney did not deserve to get sent off.
While Inter didn't perform to their usual standard, mainly because I think Mancini hasn't finished on the transfer market, I really think Inter need a new striker.....Luca Toni?!

It was 9 men, Scholes went aswell, how was Carrick?

Luca Toni would surely be where the smart money is for next Inter striker.

What kind of side did Inter play, were some of the players who featured in the world cup missing??
Hi,
Well, first off, I must confess that I didn't really watch these games live, although I got the chance to check the replays later on. Now, more specifically, about Rooney's red card... please, are you THAT blind?!... Come ON, he just showed that he's not the poor little victmized angel that pretty much all of you stood for! He's a great player - no doubt about it! -, but he's as bully and agressive as any other player; what, you're going to say that he didn't hit FC Porto's player on purpose? Was it just ANOTHER accident, like when he stamped on Ricardo Carvalho?! He IS a dirty fouling and tackling player, no matter what...
I'm sorry if I'm annoying any of you guys, but these kind of things have got to be said (gosh, I wonder if it were the other way around - a Portuguese player hitting Rooney).
Cheers
actually it was an accident. Plus that porto fag didnt help himself when rolling on the ground, constantly having sneaky peeks to see if Rooney got sent off

He might have a temper, but even the Portugese must see that that was never a red card.
No one is saying he is an angel he didnt deserve to be sent off in tonights game but he did in the world cup vs Portugal. Portos player did the same thing to Solskjaer the ref let him off, im afraid the ref just wanted to make a name for himself.
Before getting up the porto player made sure he was sent off, its only a friendly anyway no big deal.
Sneijders goal for ajax was brilliant.
actually it was an accident. Plus that porto fag didnt help himself when rolling on the ground, constantly having sneaky peeks to see if Rooney got sent off
I really don't know what else I can say!... Whatever, keep blaming the portuguese cheats as you always did (and will!)...
Cheers
Portugirls are cheats, I'll keep blaming the poofs as much as I like.

Agreed 100%

If it was an accident he has got real problems. He is going to get sent off everytime he goes for a header then because his arms came up and he led with his elbow.
Like I said in the Man utd thread the sending off was bullshit. One Porto player done the same thing to Solskjaer and I thought it was worser than what Rooney did.
While Inter didn't perform to their usual standard, mainly because I think Mancini hasn't finished on the transfer market, I really think Inter need a new striker.....Luca Toni?!
The Italian league starts later than all others, therefore Italian teams start pre-season training later and are always a little bit behind. That has more to do with it than Mancini's transfer requirements. There will be a new striker soon though.
Obviously I'm going to defend Rooney's case here but I'm certain I'd do the same if was an Arsenal player being shown the red. The decision was stupid, simple as that in my mind. Its clear as day that players need to push their arms when jumping for leverage, its happened so many damn times without people even recieving bookings let alone a red. As manutd4ever pointed out, Solskjaer was on the recieving end of a flailing arm not long before the Rooney incident. If the ref is going to try and officiate he could at least make himself fucking consistant. Worst-case scenario is that we may have to suffer in the Premiership now due to some dumb-arse referee who couldn't officiate a Sunday League game.
The only thing right about last night was that the officials were sponsored by SpecSavers.

Alan Shearer used to lead with his elbow's week in week out and never got sent off, you can clearly see that Rooney werent even looking at the player but for the ball in the air. If the porto player went down because he supposedly was hit in the face then i'd like to see what he'd be like in a rugby match or somethin like that, it has to be said the portugal players like in the world cup are a bunch of overeacting cheats. I dont have any problems with the scholes sending off but again the porto player went down as if he'd broke his leg, the game was a friendly but of course fair play doesnt mean any thing to portugal sides..
Solari scoring....Yuk ;)
Wasn't there to see the game, went to the AZ-Arsenal game but I'll be going tonight. Can't comment on Rooney either, although I did see Scholes brutal tackle. Did see Ajax, good to see Sneijder back in a role where he belongs, and Rosales not doing bad either.
The only thing right about last night was that the officials were sponsored by SpecSavers.
They are sponsored by them during the whole season

Just cos Shearer used to do it doesnt make it right. And the excuse saying Rooney was using his arms to jump doesnt wash as the defender wasnt that close to him.
Perhaps refs are inconsistent but Man Utd fans are starting to really piss me off with their constant moaning - when will you realise that Rooney will get booked and sent off far more than most strikers because of the way he plays ? He has got a dirty streak in him but he has time to mature and grow out of it - whether he does is yet to be seen.
Paul Scholes should know better too, but throughout his career he always seems to make at least one "rash" challenge in every game.
One more Other things that pee's me off about Man Utd is the fact that Giggs may be a great player but I have never seen a player in my whole life, and I am lot older than most on this board, talk to the referee and moan as much during a game.
Get over yourselves Man Utd, its not 1993 anymore and you wont be given 7and a half minutes injury time when there shouldnt have been any. You have had all your freebies now accept that stuff does happen which isnt fair smaller clubs experience it all the time yet anyone would think you are the most hard done by club in the world.

Same with the officials in Scotland.
Only saw the goals on skysports news, Porto's goal was a cracker.

I'm not saying that cus shearer did it made it right, i'm just saying that most premiership ref's would of probably booked him for that, you have to admit that the ref last night werent the best and the qualtiy of some of the ref's during the world cup were very poor. There were so many red cards and i dont like the fact how players now seem to get sent off for nothing and other players overeacting to get players sent off.
Ronney can be fustrating at times with his behaviour but last night i think he was unfortunate to be red carded.....

When will English fans/players/journalists get it? It's foot-ball, not foot-knee/foot-nuts/foot-head/elbow-face... No question that footballers in England play with loads of dedication and put in 100% at times when some other players may be a little lacklustre to say the least.
Comments like "that would never be a foul in the Premiership" etc only prove one thing: the Premiership allows way too much!
The fact is that part of the problem for English teams in international / european competition is that the players can't get away with being physical to hide their lack of technical ability. Much the same way SPL's more violent than EPL.
Few technically gifted players see England as a prime destination. Maybe if ppl changed their attitudes and started admiring players like C.Ronaldo, J.Cole, and their ilk instead of footballing neanderthals like Rooney, Keane, Lampard, Gerrard etc you'd have a chance.
When a player of Rooney's obvious talent can't refrain from using violence as a way of winning games, imagine how this impacts less gifted colleagues and the future Rooney's. Justifying it and later acting "surprised" and blaming foreigners for being wimps, changes nothing...
Insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result.
When a player of Rooney's obvious talent can't refrain from using violence as a way of winning games
One word: bullshit.
As for your whole post, I didn't want to pick out all the bollocks said so I just used the above example.

No Insanity is having a team with Materazzi and Samuel of which neither are English and then saying the English are too physical. Moron.

Totally agree with you. People dont realise that only contact allowed whatsoever in football is shoulder to shoulder. Any other contact is technically a foul.
And you are right as just because it is acceptable in the British game does not mean it is acceptable all over the world.

Not really. Theres nothing wrong with slide-tackling, pushing the ball and momentum carrying you straight through the man. Its allowed as long as the tackle isn't from behind or two-footed etc of course.

With a slide tackle, if its clean, you take the ball not the man.
I am just taking it to the extreme I know, but theoretically a player should never touch another player apart from shoulder to shoulder.

olololol
Maybe that's Gods way of paying Mr. Ferguson back for spending £12m too much on Carrick.
Well that's one more trophy than the Scousers will win
Sorry, they might win the Community Shield.

Yeah, could see Rossi was fuming about it as you'd imagine. To be honest I was shocked he didn't get a red card, especially since the cards were being dished out for fun in the tournament. Was Heitinga who tripped him wasn't it ? If so then I dislike him more, anyone see him push Brown into the advertising boards ?

Forget advertising boards, Brown needs to pushed into something a lot more deadly - a vat of acid maybe
Push him as hard as you like Huw, he still wouldn't end up in the Championship!
Inter vs Porto was definitely a great match, Ajax - ManU was slightly not so good. Manucharyan showed he can do way more damage than Rosales, who is yet to give a decent cross.
What a way to end your own tournament, 4th

Barry, what's the deal with Hedwiges Maduro? I know he's valued highly by Ajax and Van Basten, but I never hear his name linked with any top European clubs from England, Italy or Spain, which surprises me a little, as he's a brilliant young player. He's so mature and has such a good footballing brain at such a young age. Any idea of a likely transfer value or future destination? I'd really like Arsenal to sign him, as our future replacement for Gilberto Silva.

His first season was stormy to say the least, showed great potential and was linked with the likes of Juventus.
Last season he was wasted, his original(and I think favoured by him) position is in midfield. We used him as a classic nr 4, in our eyes that means coming forward a lot to help the midfield. Bit Lothar Matthaus like. He has the vision to do it, but lacks the needed speed and defending capabilities.
I hope Ten Cate uses him in midfield so we can see the Maduro we want to see. I think this year he has to show his true potential, and when he does I think he'll be out of here in no time.

I think Ajax should of finished ahead of porto to be honest, porto just cheated through out the both matches and they got another player sent off in the Inter match..
