View Full Version : UC Sampdoria
Doubt there's any fans on here but there my boys from Italy! They deserve their own thread.

History:
U.C. Sampdoria is a football club based in Genoa, Italy. The club was formed in 1946 from the merger of two existing clubs, Sampierdarenese and Andrea Doria. Sampdoria currently compete in the Italian Serie A. The team's colors are blue, white, red and black. Sampdoria plays at Stadio Luigi Ferraris, capacity 41,917, which it shares with Genoa's other club, Genoa 1893.
Sampdoria won the scudetto in 1991, so far the only time in their history that they have done so, and the club also won the Coppa Italia four times (1985, 1988, 1989, and 1994). They also won the Cup Winners' Cup in 1990. Sampdoria also reached the UEFA Champions League final in 1992, only to lose out against spanish team FC Barcelona.
There has not been much success in the club in the last decade since. Sampdoria achieved a place in the UEFA Cup by finishing 5th in the table at the end of the 2004/05 Serie A season, but did narrowly lose out to Udinese Calcio in taking 4th and a UEFA Champions League spot. Sampdoria's appearance in the UEFA Cup was brief as they finished 4th in a group of 5. The team obtained 5 points from one win, two draws and a loss in Group C.

Those are some funky shirt numbers! Nice thread ;)
Sampdoria have qualified for the fourth round of the Coppa Italia after a tough 3-2 win at Bologna despite Ruben Olivera being sent off after 26 minutes. Eight Coppa Italia matches are being played tonight and this was the only one of the first group of five not to go to extra-time. Two of the remaining three are also level late in the second half.
Sampdoria will meet Palermo in round four.
Palermo next? Well think we'll be going out in that one :(
Fourth round games aren't scheduled until November (not January as in previous seasons). Teams in Europe will be fighting on three fronts at that stage and the big clubs (Inter, Milan, Roma) will use reserve teams.
Ah ok  Palermo may be distracted by the UEFA Cup during that time.
They'll need to get past West Ham first ;)
Teams like Sampdoria who have played three competitive matches before Serie A even begins will now hope to take advantage of their superior fitness in the first two weeks of the Serie A season. Fixtures are to be drawn up on Wednesday.
Bad start.
Sampdoria 1 (Bonazzoli 9, Falcone sent off 50, Del Vecchio sent off 90) Empoli 2 (Busce 28, Saudati 51 pen)
Castellazzi; C Zenoni, Falcone, Sala, Pieri; Olivera (Parola 56), Volpi (Bonanni 75), Palombo (Del Vecchio 54), Franceschini; Flachi, Bonazzoli.
If Sampdoria don't win away to Inter Milan tomorrow night then they will set a new club record - fifteen league games without a win.
Francesco Flachi of Sampdoria has been banned for 2 months for betting

Obtaining "information" on matches in order to aid third-party punters but close enough ;). Same penalty for Moris Carrozzieri of Atalanta.
Great comeback from Sampdoria last night, drawing 3-3 at home to Udinese after trailing 3-0 with 42 minutes gone. Probably bought Walter Novellino four days before he gets the sack.
Another person dips into this thread.
16 league games without a win is relegation form so i'm fearing the worst this season. Europe is definitely out of reach.
cool thread now someone make roma

Grahf, why dont you make one?And I think there is one around, but I am not sure...
I like Sampdoria, but they lack fitnes if you ask me.That 3-3 draw is amazing for them,so good things are ahead.Relegation?-dont think so.

Sunday 15th October - Judgment Day Sweey!!!
Don't remind me :(
You'll have gone 15 or 16 games without a win and now you'll win two in a row - one of them against us.
Well we are on a great run of wins.....1.
I still can't see us winning. Falcone will get sent off yet again probably, i'll be happy with a point.

They have a wierd yet great looking emblem. I hope they do well this year, I play as them on PES more than AC Milan :ninja:
How good is Daniele Padelli?
Don't know much about him but the little I do know suggests he isn't anything special. Still, Carlo Cudicini wasn't anything special once upon a time...(and he still isn't). Just don't expect to have signed the next Buffon. Am I right in thinking you've signed him or is it yet to be confirmed?

I was expecting a reply from you ;). The move hasn't officially been confirmed but it seems likely. Isn't he an Italian U21 International?
He has to be better then Dudek
He has only one under-21 cap which he received recently.
Well that is promising then.
Is he error prone?
Not that I'm aware of but I bring you back to my earlier post: "Don't know much about him but the little I do know"...
I'm not at all surprised by his behaviour. He seems genuinely incapable of controlling his temper.
Ruben Olivera has been handed a five-match ban for his dismissal in the final minutes, as he struck Rodrigo in the stomach and then threw a punch at another opponent in the ensuing melee.
Sad to see this thread has died since i left. :(
I don't know what's gone wrong with our league form, and our UEFA Cup draw is probably the hardest group. Plus, Milan next in the league, great. :fplm:
You'll do us in with some Cassano magic. The performances haven't been bad and yet your results have been pretty atrocious.
You're up against one of the most flaky defences in the division next weekend. Decent individuals (Nesta remains injured) who need a ton of luck to come away with a clean sheet.

Cassano the only positive from this season so far.
Anyway Mr Sweey, how have you been?:w00t

Not bad thanks mate. Yourself?
Milan haven't changed much in the last two years :fplm:

True, least you might win something this year in the UEFA Cup :D
I'm good thanks mate, good to be back.
2-1 away win against Partizan. Important as still have tough games against Sevilla, Stuttgart and Standard Liege. 3 straight wins in Europe though.
Now do it in the league you fuckers!!!

At home to Bologna this weekend. Good chance for a home win.
Whats this? 3 points?
You called it Sweey. Roma away next, their struggling too. Who knows, not expecting much though.
Rosella Sensi has ordered the Roma players into a training camp until the match on Wednesday which means they won't be going home and likely won't be allowed to speak to the press.

So if they lose against Sampdoria next week, execution will be the punishment, yes?
Obviously not Totti though.
Your away form just won't improve....

EDIT Mate, you've probably seen more of Samp than me this season so why do you think they've declined so much from last season? I know losing players like Maggio (cunt!), Volpi moving on etc. didn't help. Are the players we've brought in to replace just not good enough?
Have to beat Sevilla to guarentee progress. At least it's at home but after drawing with Stuttgart at home, it doesn't look good.
Fuck it, i so wanted Samp to get through and draw Spurs.

From what I've seen, Sampdoria do still play decent football and have deserved better results but things just don't click the way they did last season. Maggio's departure is obviously quite a big difference as he was brilliant last season. I'd suggest a lack of confidence is the reason for their poor away form and the fact that Cassano probably has too much responsibility on his shoulders. The defence, to me, looks to be lacking something too.
Additionally, Bruno Fornaroli and Claudio Bellucci do not provide a big enough goal threat.

Yeah Maggio was arguably the best goal scoring wing back in the league last season. Bonnazoli doesn't seem that consistent. I was gutted when we didn't sign Quagliarella after his time with us. Looks like we need a better partner upfront for Cassano.
:w00t:cheer:
Best result of the season, especially as Sevilla have just beaten Real Madrid and Villareal.
Brilliant result, especially as it knocks Sevilla out which I hadn't realised until now.
Yeah, that's one of the favourites out already. Will need a favourable draw I feel, maybe Metalist Kharkiv? they won there group so it could happen.
Metalist Kharkiv won't be a favourable draw. Second most impressive side this season behind CSKA Moscow and haven't even conceded a goal despite playing Benfica, Olympiakos, Galatasaray and Hertha Berlin.

I really hope we don't get Sampdoria.

I hope you do, then I can get to watch them on English TV for a change. ;)

Well if Kharkiv don't knock Samp out, I'm sure Kiev or Valencia will. :(

Bishop:
For when you return, Giampaolo Pazzini has gone to Sampdoria for around £7m with Emiliano Bonazzoli going to Fiorentina on loan.
Bishop:
Sampdoria midfielder Angelo Palombo also defended the fans’ actions, insisting that the team needs to do more.
“They asked us to work a lot harder,” explained Palombo, who started his first game since November against Palermo. “And they are right.”
Antonio Cassano disagrees, though. The Barese was upset after the game, as the fans had booed his every touch.
“Why do you whistle?” Cassano asked. “What exactly are you whistling at? You don’t do it, you just don’t do that.”
The mentalist is back :chanlaugh:
Fucking mess :faceplm:
Cassano should really be playing for a better team.
Bishop, you have to see Cassano's goal from last night:

Stunning goal, he's a joy to watch when he's on song.
Quite surprised they won last night... quite surpised when they win full stop.

I hope Metalist keep this run going.
:brickwall: :(
Not surprised really, Metalist look a strong, organised team. Valencia or Kiev shouldn't be too excited about playing them.
What the fuck's going on? Is Armageddon upon us? 3-0 up against Inter.
What the fuck's going on? Is Armageddon upon us? 3-0 up against Inter.
Rivas was playing...:chanlaugh: The starting line-ups were:
Sampdoria: Castellazzi, Campagnaro, Gastaldello, Raggi, Padalino, Sammarco, Palombo, Franceschini, Pieri, Pazzini, Cassano.
Inter: Toldo, Cordoba, Materazzi, Rivas, Maxwell, Zanetti, Vieira, Muntari, Mancini, Adriano, Balotelli.
Gastaldello has been dismissed in the second half and Rivas and Maxwell have been replaced by Maicon and Crespo.
EDIT: Stankevicius has just replaced Pazzini.
You need to make sure you don't concede an away goal.
Booyah!
When's the next leg and, dare I jinx it, the final? Hopefully Inter will give it up now.
Don't think Gastaldello deserved the straight red personally, Pazzini has been a quality buy for Samp great match :)
Holy shit, just seen this score :|
Was it inters strongest team?
Holy shit, just seen this score :|
Was it inters strongest team?
No, the big three almost never put out a full strength team in the Coppa Italia.
Julio Cesar, Santon, Cambiasso, Stankovic and Ibrahimovic weren't in the starting line-up. Plus, Materazzi started and he's barely been used/trusted all season.
Still, great result for Sampdoria.
Booyah!

This is Italy so don't be shocked when I say the second leg is April 21 or 22.
The date for the final isn't confirmed yet.
Take that you Champions League chasing cunts!!!

It was offside :>
THAT was offside!! I hate them, I fucking hate them.

I need to see another replay of that one. By the time the move peaked my interest the angles we were being shown weren't helpful.
Good news for you is that Sampdoria-Reggina is the game Bet365 are showing next Saturday at 5pm.
They seriously are disgusting twats. I'm gonna punch my monitor when the Genoa players are on it to prove i'm a big man.
EDIT I've just broken my monitor and my hand.
:lol2:
Hope you're not serious (about the monitor) :erm:. This has seriously kicked off in the last eight minutes. The third fight now, three dismissals so far, an injury time goal to put the result beyond doubt. Welcome back to Italian football!
Their keeper should have been sent off as well. I'll be cheering for Fiorentina now (would have been anyway). Though have to admit, Milito is a class striker, he should move to a bigger club.

Inter want him badly. I think he'll go if Genoa don't finish fourth. Fiorentina keep riding their luck but results are results.
Whats the score? I had a bet on it aswell :faceplm:
1-1. Lazio won 6-5 on penalties. :crymore:
Was a joke that the game was played in Lazio's home ground in the first place.
It is a bit unfair, but it is basically Italy's version of Wembley, as it's the home of their national team.
Unlucky to Sampdoria though. Would have been nice to see someone other than Inter, Milan, Juve, Roma, Lazio or Fiorentina win something.
It isn't Italy's version of Wembley or the home of the national team - the national team don't really have a home. It was only ever going to be held in the Olimpico or San Siro and would have been decided at the start of the season.
Antonio Cassano after being jeered by sections of the crowd during Sampdoria's 0-0 draw with Bari this afternoon.
"I heard insults and moaning from the crowd. If I'm not welcome here, then I can go without any problems. I did it at Roma and Real Madrid, it wouldn't be an issue for me to do the same here."
"We are in joint second place with Juventus, Inter are a step above and frankly in their own League."
The point of this post...
"Maybe somebody has become a little too accustomed to eating the finest chocolate and occasionally has to nibble on some shit"
Why the fuck are they booing Cassano? Don't they like being near the top of the table? If (maybe when) he leaves, Samp will go back to being a mid table team in all probability.
Good quote though.
