Division 2: Matchday 1

The first kick off of season 3 was finally upon us this past weekend and all the hard work and dedication of the managers in D2 was finally realized.

The pictures that were once blurry have now come into focus.

There were shocking victories and hard fought matches all across the board. Let us go over the happenings and see where we stand after Matchday 1.

Just a reminder:
0-4 = 0 goals
5-8 = 1 goal
9-12 = 2 goals
13-16 = 3 goals
17-20 = 4 goals

Match of the Day:

Rafa vs The G: 2 - 1

Long time Fantasy League Manager Rafa earned his first league victory in over two years. The win shows the amount of hardwork and dedication that the manager has put in to turn his program around.

Rafa's men started out flying getting an early goal off the head of big target man Jan Koller. The goal came off a curling set-piece service off the foot of Roberto Carlos.

Rafa F.C. doubled their lead when -G- Squad left back Patrice Evra got beat by Luka Modric and was forced to pull him down in the box. The veteran Carlos stepped up to take the shot which caught the cross bar, Ricardo Oliveira was opportunistic, however, and converted the rebound for the 2-0 lead.

Rafa F.C. looked keen to get the clean sheet but Chris Kirkland muffed a long shot of the foot of Jean Makoun which Salomon Kalou was able to stuff into the back of the net.

The win has been long coming for Rafa F.C. and has their fans optimistic for the first time in a long time.

Highway Penguin vs. Preki 1 - 1

SC Heracles (HP) opened the precedings in the first half with a quality finish by hitman Hernan Crespo. The goal was set up by a great individual effort by Yoann Gourcuff who streaked down the right wing showing skill to beat both Didi Zokora and John Arne Riise. His ball was spot on to Crespo's feet right outside the six and he left no doubts with the finish.

With Gigi Buffon making 12 saves Merseyside USA looked destined to lose but some late minute heroics from Peter Crouch gave the Merseysiders the point. Clint Dempsey skinned SC Heracles left back Capadevilla and sent in a cross that Crouch met with his head and converted into a goal.
