T.G United 2-2 Galaxy F.C

In the new managers first game T.G United managed a respectable draw against one of the best teams in the division. Galaxy F.C opened the scoring in the 21st minute a powerful header from De Jong after a well worked set piece. But after half time T.G United took the lead after two quick goals, the first a tap in for Del Piero after some good work from Aaron Lennon down the right wing, the second a slotted finish from Michael Owen after a wonderful through ball from Dejan Stankovic put him clear of the defence. But late in the game Tomas Rosicky scored a 25 yard curler which left Dida with no chance. Dejan Stankovic was handed the man of the match accolade after a commanding performance in midfield.

T.G United 1-1 La Naranja Mechanica

The second game of the new managers career and it was a closely fought game, the first half was quite dull when it came to goalscoring chances, but due to some physical challenges from both sides it threatened to boil over. Half time came at the right point and gave both managers chances to inspire their teams and on the 60th minute the first goal was scored, after some dazzling skill from Del Piero on the left he cut inside and layed the ball across the front of the area where Stankovic ran onto it and placed it into the bottom corner. But the lead didn’t last long, 5 minutes later Edu scored a tap in after some beautiful build up play involving Robinho, Schaars and De La Pena. The game then died down for the rest of the game and both teams were restricted to speculative shots. Del Piero was awarded the man of the match award after giving Cicinho a torrid time all game and setting up his teams goal.

Transfer Rumours

Lots of transfer speculation has been buzzing around TG United lately but the press seem to have got some leaked news, it seems that the manager has already managed to get the signatures of Kieran Dyer, Gilberto Silva and Ruud Van Nistelrooy. TG United 1-1 Chacarita FC

This was an enthralling cup from start to finish, the 1st half lacked goals but it didn’t lack action. The first 20 minutes was dominated by Chacarita with Iniesta and Messi running the show. But TG United managed to get back in the game, Lahm and Lennon were particularly effective down the wings supplying lots of balls for Owen. After half time Chacarita FC came out firing with David Villa hitting the post after being set through on goal by an Iniesta through ball. But it was TG United which struck first, an incisive breakaway led to Scholes scoring from the edge of the area after some great work from Lennon. After this the game was quite even but it was heartache for United fans when David Villa scored a diving header after a whipped cross from Quaresma in the 88th minute. The man of the match award was given to Lennon after he gave Gio a torrid time all game and set up his teams goal.

This was one of the most important matches in both teams seasons so far, they are the two bottom teams and both put out very strong formations. Both teams went for 4-5-1 formations as they didn’t want to give the other team any advantage.

Before the game our panellist Andy Gray had this to say, “This should be an absolute cracker of a game, I predict that the key players will be Dejan Stankovic for T.G United and Kaka for Alizee Lyonnais, they will have the job of picking through the midfield and creating chances for the front men.”

The game began in a fashion which everyone thought it would, it was very cagey as neither team wanted to make a mistake, the first chance occurred in the 12th minute as William Gallas broke out of defence before sliding a ball out wide to Joaquin who whipped in a ball which was met by the head of Louis Saha and thundered back off of the crossbar leaving Dida with no chance.

After that the game became cagey once again with T.G United dominating possession but failing to pick through Alizee’s team with Gattuso proving what a world class player he was as he cut short many United attacks. The only chance in the rest of the 1st half was when Del Piero broke down the wing and cut inside before trying to curl a shot into the far corner but this ended up well wide.

Half time analysis from Andy Gray, “The game has been very close like we predicted but I can see goals in this game and when the first goes in it will open up”.

The second half opened with a bang, T.G United obviously got the hairdryer treatment at half time as they looked extremely sharp and from kick off they forced a corner. From the resulting corner Dejan Stankovic floated one of his textbook corners to the edge of the area where Scholes met it with a thundering volley which was brilliantly saved by Coupet but he could only parry it out to Michael Owen, who had the simple job of tapping it into the back of the net. You could see the relief on Owens face as this was his first goal in a while.

The pace of the game quickened after the goal with Kaka going close with a shot from the edge of the area. But it was United which capitalised, Lennon picked up the ball just inside his own half and went past Abidal with ease before floating a ball into the box, it looked as though it had missed everyone but at the last minute Phillip Lahm arrived at the back post with a diving header which flew past Coupet to give United a 2-0 lead.

They could of put the game out of reach when Stankovic found himself unmarked in the box but he could only put the ball well over. From the resulting goal kick Coupet drove a ball deep into Uniteds half which both Lahm and Worns went to head but Louis Saha got there first with the flick which left Joaquin in acres of space and all he had to do was put the ball into the far corner past a struggling Dida.

This goal gave Lyonnais the initiative and they went for the win with 10 minutes to go, the game was evened up in miraculous style when Kaka picked up the ball just inside Uniteds half before rounding Emerson and Worns and chipping it over the outstretched arms of Dida. The Lyonnais fans went crazy as Kaka sprinted off towards there corner of the stand. The final whistle went very shortly after and both teams looked satisfied with the result.

The draw didn’t really help either team as they both stay in the bottom 2. Andy Gray had this to say, “I said at half time that after a goal the game would open up and it did, it was possibly one of the most exciting halves of football I have ever seen.”

The man of the match award was given to Kaka after a solid performance at the heart if Lyonnais midfield and also scoring a special goal to give his team a draw.

The Alizee Lyonnais manager had this to say “The result isn’t the greatest but I am happy with the way in which they fought back, overall I am happy to be part of such a spectacle.”

The T.G United manager failed to comment as he was furious with his players and kept them in the changing room for one and a half hours after the game.

Pre-Match Analysis

Andy Gray, “This should be a very close game, both teams are near the bottom of the league and are fighting for survival so I expect it to be a very well fought game. Neither team will want to give anything away so I expect it to be a very tight beginning and then maybe in the second half the game will open up. I think the key player for TG United is Dejan Stankovic as he is in great form at the moment and he has the ability to run the game. The key player for Green Army will probably be Deco, mainly for the same reasons as Stankovic, he is playing well at the moment and his range of passing is excellent.”

Match Report

The opening to the game was a cagey one, neither team wanted to give the other any advantage. Defenders were definitely on top and chances were hard to come by, Deco had a freekick from about 25 yards which he tried to curl in but he only managed to put it down the throat of Dida. Thierry Henry then had a mazy run in from the left where he skipped past a couple of players, he then tried a neat through ball but him and Ruud Van Nistelrooy weren’t on the same wavelength and the ball ran out of play, both players just stood their staring at eachother.

After 22 minutes the first real chance came, Riquelme picked the ball up from deep and launched a ball though to Ronaldo, he controlled it well as it came over his shoulder under pressure from Luis Perea. He the proceeded towards Dida, he tried to round the keeper but Dida got a vital touch on the ball which knocked it against Ronaldo and out of play. Ronaldo looked gutted knowing that he had just missed a great chance to put his side ahead.

In the 27th minute there was some bad news for TG United, Cafu was taken off due to an ankle injury, Jankulovski came on to the pitch. Frank Rijkaard didn’t look to happy as 27 minutes into Cafu’s debut he had to come off.

The next 20 minutes or so passed without many incidents apart from yellow cards for Ashley Cole and Lucho Gonzalez. On the 45th minute there was an extremely rash challenge by Gilberto Silva on Deco, the referee played advantage and the game went on. The referee then blew for half time without punishing Gilberto Silva, the Green Army players were furious and surrounded the referee. Thierry Henry tried to split it up but just seemed to intensify the situation, luckily nobody threw a punch and it passed with the players going in to the tunnel.

The second half started and just 15 seconds into the half Lucho Gonzalez piled in on Paul Scholes leaving him writhing in agony, the referee decided not to punish him. The TG United players weren’t to happy about this, this game looks like it could boil over if the officials aren’t careful.

Green Army are looking to make their mark on the game and have several chances in a couple of minutes, first Ronaldo has a snap shot from 20 yards out which just whistles past the post. Then from a corner Materazzi rose above Luis Perea and thundered in a header which crashed back off of the crossbar, Dida looks happy after coming for the corner and totally missing it.

On the 62nd minute TG United took a slightly undeserved lead, After a crisp passing move through the midfield involving Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick, Dejan Stankovic slid a delightful ball through the defense which Ruud Van Nistelrooy raced onto and smashed the ball past Victor Valdez. He looks absolutely delighted with that goal as he races towards Frank Rijkaard and embraces him. The rest of the team then jump on them to celebrate Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s debut goal.

On the 71st minute Thierry Henry doubled TG Uniteds lead, he span past Richard Dunne like he wasn’t even there. He then played a quick one-two with Ruud Van Nistelrooy on the edge of the area and then played a cheeky chip over the top of the keeper. Thierry Henry quickly runs to Ruud Van Nistelrooy to thank him for the assist. Frank Rijkaard will hope that these two will be able to form a good partnership to save TG United from relegation.

10 minutes later Raul had a great opportunity to put Green Army back in the game. Ronaldo held the ball up well before laying it off to Raul who crashed a shot, from the edge of the area, just past the post. The teams heads all drop as they know they needed that to help them back into the game.

2 minutes into injury time, Michael Carrick whipped in a corner which was met by Lucio who flicked a near post header into the far corner. TG United look satisfied with the goal but aren’t to over the moon, they knew that the game was over before this goal. Lucio is happy with the goal which caps off a brilliant performance from the Brazilian centre back.

Andy Gray, “It was a very close game until Ruud Van Nistelrooy opened the scoring, that goal changed the complexity of the whole game. After the goal Green Army went searching for a goal and this meant exposing themselves to an onslaught from the TG United attack. Thierry Henry and Ruud Van Nistelrooy both had good second halfs but my ‘Man Of The Match’ award will have to go to Lucio, he played solidly for the whole game and his goal just made his performance complete. Overall TG United probably deserved the win but not by the scoreline, it ended a bit harsh for The Green Army.

Frank Rijkaard, “I am delighted with the win, the 3 points have given the whole squad a lift. I am especially happy with the way the to front men performed, for their first game together they showed brilliant understanding and ability.

Pre-Match Analysis

Andy Gray, “This should be a very interesting game, one team is near the top of the league and are trying to get as high as they can whereas another team is near the bottom of the table fighting for their lives. This means it could be an interesting battle, the key to the match will be who can win the fight in midfield. Because of this the key player for Nedy will be Iniesta who has the ability to run the game and for the same reasons Top Guns key player will be Paul Scholes.”

Match Report

The cagey start which was predicted went out of the window within the first 30 seconds of the match, Lionel Messi picked the ball up and drove straight at Ashley Cole. Cole looked surprised and was back-pedalling, Messi whipped in a low ball which just evaded the outstretched leg of David Trezeguet. The TG United defence look relieved and Cole apologises for the lack of awareness.

From the resulting goal kick a ball was lofted up the pitch where Ruud Van Nistelrooy knocked a ball down to Guiseppe Rossi who quickly span and passed to Paul Scholes who attempted an audacious ball over the top to the on running Thierry Henry, Henry saw the ball coming over his shoulder and knocked it down with a great first touch. Henry tried to loop a shot past Doni but failed miserably seeing his shot go 10 yards wide of the goal.

The game then seemed to settle down for a period with the only chances coming from set-pieces, firstly Terry had a header cleared off the line after Quaresma delivered a peach of a ball from a free kick. Another chance came for Gilberto Silva after Thierry Henry delivered a floated corner, the header in the end though went lamely over the bar.

In the 31st minute the first clear cut chance came for TG United, the ball started on the left side with Ashley Cole being played down the line from a good ball from Mathieu Flamini. Cole then proceeded to dummy a cross and instead laying the ball across the edge of the area to Paul Scholes who dummied to take a shot but instead played a dink over the defence and Ruud Van Nistelrooy read this and got there before the keeper did, he tried a cute little chip which he saw agonisingly come back off of the post and into Doni’s hands.

The game looked like it was going to go into the interval with no goals but just before half time there was a hammer blow for TG United. Quaresma won a corner which he took himself, he delivered a driven ball which John Terry did well to get onto and drive a header into the top corner. He looked delighted with the goal and ran over to Quaresma to celebrate. Half time came and passed without any incident.

The second half started and TG United were piling on the pressure with half chances for both Henry and Rossi. They made this pressure pay in the 65th minute when Ruud Van Nistelrooy rushed onto a delightful ball from Paul Scholes and with trademark fashion, coolly slotted the ball into the far corner of the net. He is obviously happy with the goal and it means that he carries on his record of scoring in every game he has played for his new side.

The game seemed to die down after the goal with chances coming at a minimum, firstly Iniesta hit a speculative shot from around 35 yards which had Carlo Cudicini worried for a second until he realised that the ball was going well over the bar. The second came for Lionel Messi when he took on a couple of players with relative ease but he overran the ball slightly and ended up getting crowded out when he could of possibly shot earlier.

There was no real chances for the rest of the game and unfortunately the game fizzled out, the spectacle that was expected before the game never really got going.

Post Match Analysis

Andy Gray, “The game wasn’t really what we all expected but some of the football on show was spectacular. No doubt TG United will be the happier side with the point but the game wasn’t really as good as we expected.”

The T.G United fans must be nothing short of amazed of what Frank Rijkaard has done with the team since joining. When he first joined the club were sitting bottom with pundits predicting their relegation, Rijkaard was bought in to try and stop the collapse but ultimately prepare for next season in the lower teir.

The Chairman showed a lot of faith in the new manager giving a huge transfer budget of £98.5m to spend on new players. He did this but without just using the money, he also used his players which he considered surplus to requirement to save some money. His first deal was a huge transfer bringing in Ruud Van Nistelrooy for £25m, other players followed Ruud into the club including Luis Perea, Cafu, Darren Bent and Gilberto Silva. No doubt though that the signings of Ashley Cole (Permanent) and Thierry Henry (On Loan) were the biggest, he had to let Philip Lahm, probably one of the best young wing backs in the world, go but he couldn’t resist linking up Thierry Henry and Ruud Van Nistelrooy as this partnership would give a great chance of survival.

These transfers have all proved very successful none more-so than Ruud Van Nistelrooy who has got 5 goals in 7 games including 2 Man of the Match awards. Also Thierry Henry and Darren Bent have proved valuable scoring 5 goals between them.

They have picked up some valuable wins this season but have also proved that since Rijkaard has come in they can mix it with the big boys beating both Hunter and Barry’s sides 2-1. They are now well clear of relegation and are looking to secure as many points as possible for next season. The turnaround has been amazing rising up to 6th after being bottom halfway through the season.

Rijkaard in for Sneijder

At a press conference today Frank Rijkaard has outlined Wesley Sneijder as his main summer target. Paul Scholes is moving into the later years of his career and Rijkaard views Wesley as the only man able to fill his boots. Sneijder is currently playing for Division 1 rivals Galaxy F.C but Rijkaard is willing to go all out to try and sign the young star.

Rijkaard had this to say, “I have been watching Wesley for a long time now and I see him as the perfect signing for my team. We need somebody young who has the ability to run a game and also change a game in the blink of an eye.”

Lennon looking to stay with T.G United

In an interview today Aaron Lennon has outlined his determination to stay at T.G United next season. Lennon wants guaranteed first team football and he thinks this is more likely to happen at United than his father club Racing Club Aviendo.

Aaron had this to say, “Aviendo have some of the best right wingers in world football and I know it will be hard for me to break into the starting eleven, I would like to stay with United as I know that Frank (Rijkaard) wants me here and I will get to play which is all I want.”

When asked about Lennon at a press conference Rijkaard had this to say, “I have been in contact with Felipe (Scolari) about Aaron’s future and we have put talks on hold until the end of the season where we will discuss the matter further. Of course I would love Aaron to join up with us permanently; he has a very exciting future. One I would love him to have with us.”

Star defender going nowhere!

After hearing Felipe Scolari the other day talking about wanting to bring in TG United’s star defender Lucio, Rijkaard is adamant that he will be going nowhere.

“Lucio has been in magnificent form throughout the season and losing him would be a huge blow. There is no player in the squad who losing would make such a difference. I have bought around him, he is the foundation of my team. I also think that next season he will be made captain as he is the consummate professional and would be a great role model for any youngster.”

Rijkaard who joined in the mid-season transfer window has delayed selecting his captain but it looks like he has decided to make the Brazilian the one.

Chiellini On The Move?

After being out on loan all season it seem's that Giorgio Chiellini wants a move away from T.G United. He has been a first team regular for Chacarita F.C since joining and he believes he won't be getting this at United. It is reported that there are a number of clubs looking to sign the player but Rijkaard has agreed a first option with a club already.

Rijkaard had this to say, "I have not yet decided the future of Giorgio, he is one of the best young left backs in the world so he could have a great future here. The problem I see is that we already have Ash (Ashley Cole) who is in my opinion the best left back around at the moment. It is true that I've agreed a first option but that doesn't mean he will definitely be leaving. I'm not willing to disclose the club I have agreed the first option with out of respect for their privacy in their transfer matters."

Rumour has it that Roberto Ayala has found it so simple to plant the likes of Van Nistelrooy firmly into his backpocket this season, he's asked Scolari to adopt a 1-5-4 formation with him as the sole defender, just to give him a bit of a challenge. He's a confident chap, old Roberto.

Player Focus: Hatem Ben Arfa

http://fr.uefa.com/ml/images/players/ucl/220X220/93320.jpg

Full name: Hatem Ben Arfa
Date of birth: March 7, 1987 (age 20)
Place of birth: Clamart, France
Height: 1.78m
Position: Attacking Midfielder/Support Striker

Ben Arfa has been one of the shining stars for Lyon this season after they have failed to show the dominance over their competitors that they usually do.

After losing such key players as Eric Abidal and Florent Malouda in the summer it was clear that they would need some of the younger players to step up this year. Ben Arfa has been one of the players they have relied on to help and he hasn’t disappointed. Himself and fellow Frenchman Karim Benzema have been running the show alongside Brazilian ace Juninho this season.

It all started in the European Under-17 Championship in May of 2004, France went on to win the tournament with Ben Arfa playing a key role alongside fellow stars Jeremy Menez and Samir Nasri. At this level he scored 18 goals in 27 games. He was asked to play for Tunisia at the 2006 World Cup but decided to stick with his French career.

He has now played 39 times for Lyon and these performances led to him getting a call up into the French national squad for the games with the Faroe Islands and Lithuania. He was bought on late into the game with the Faroe Islands and managed to get on the scoresheet in a 6-0 victory.

He is well known for his silky skills and brilliant dribbling ability. This has led to plenty of interest from Europe’s elite. Most notably from Arsene Wenger who reportedly made a £10,000,000 bid during the summer and more recently a sensational £40,000,000 bid for him and fellow Lyon attacker Karim Benzema.
