If you are new to PES or the world of patching... Please read through this thread before posting. Hopefully it will explain some simple questions.
<b>What is an X-Port?</a>
An X-Port is used to transfer saved game data from your memory to PC, and vice-versa. This allows you to download PES option files from the internet and use on your games. An X-Port does not enable you to play patched games!
<b>What do you need to play patched copies of WE6FE?</b>
1. A copy of the game
2. The appropriate patch
3. Patching tools
4. Most importantly, you need to have a modified PS2. This can include putting a mod-chip in or getting a flip top lid from ps2case.com

Newbie questions:
1. Can I patch PES or PES2? How/Why?
2. What are the different types of patches for WE6:FE?
3. Where can I see pics of these patches?
4. Where can I see a good patching guide?
5. Where can I buy an original WE6:FE?
6. What chip/alternate method do I need to play it?
Answers?

OK then, newbie answers...
1. You can patch PES but, effectively the answer to this question is no. This is because no-one has made a patch for PES.
2. There are many different patches for WE6FE, each doing their own thing, for example there are EPL, SERIE A B + C Patches, which are pretty self explanitory, and then there are WEdoIT and DYNAMO patches, with have the European teams with real kits, adboard, chants etc etc. It's pretty much down to personal favour which patch you choose.

I've seen loads of piccies and read reviews on Pro Evolution Soccer 2 with the right kits etc.. with sponsors and club badges on. Can I get hold of this for the European Pro Evolution 2 and if so where can I get it downloaded from. I have an X-port. If not do you think anyone will do it in the future?
Zygalski
02-06-2003, 13:21
What you have seen is only for Winning Eleven 6: Final Evolution, the Japanese version of the game which has been patched.
People patched that instead of PES2 because PES2 is on a DVD while WE6:FE is on CD plus it is a better game.
If you want the logos and stuff, the game needs to be patched.
This involves burning files onto a new copy of the game using a CD-writer.
X-Port cannot be used for this.
Only for things like transferring option files and other game data.
Hey guys I was wondering if any of you have the flip top lid and bootdisks? How easy is it to install and how reliable is it?
I don't wanna fook up my brothers PS2 :D
Cheers!
Zygalski
05-06-2003, 14:12
I don't have one but I have read and heard it is just a matter of unscrewing 8 or 10 screws, replacing the cover and screwing them back in. Ten minutes max.
Sounds easy to install.
Not sure about the reliability but have heard the laser life is not as long as normal, but that was just someone's opinion.
If you go for one, choose one with a cool colour!
Yeah I've just read some instructions on how to install it. For the v1-3 models it says you have to break a small piece of white plastic off it.
I'll probably get it soon anyhow. I think I'll stick with the black colour though. :D

timedwins7

www.goblingames.co.uk
I asked it already in the editing section, but the response was weak, so I ask a second time here:
For playing import games in full colour you need a RGB-cable. But do you still need it if you´ve patched you WE6:FE with the Dynamo patch?
Zygalski
09-06-2003, 13:27
It's still an import game even if it's patched.
rebusrahman, apparently it was someone from evoweb who sent Konami the patched disk and they should have got the credit but the magazine got it wrong. But still, the tools for making the patches originated at issextreme so they deserved a little credit.
A joint mention perhaps.
I don't know how someone who writes for a games magazine cannot know the details of the various forums. If they are true fans of the PES/WE games like they say the are, they would know a little about them. Geeks.
Hey,
So I bought the flip top lid + boot discs and WE6 which just arrived this morning but when I try to play it, it doesn't load. I recieved the flip top lid + boot discs on Tuesday, installed it and tested it with some backups which worked. Now when it asks me to insert the new disc and I put WE6 in, it comes up with the blue border around the screen but doesn't go any further?!
Any ideas as to why it ain't working?
Cheers.
Zygalski
12-06-2003, 10:33
Is it an original WE6:FE or a patched copy?
It's not FE just WE6 and original.
Zygalski
12-06-2003, 11:13
Hmmm, sounds interesting.
Have you tried it before and are you sure it does work?
Yes, as I said I made a couple of backups of other games I had, just to test it and they worked. This is the first time I have tried an import though and it doesn't do anything when I put the WE6 disc in at the prompt screen.
Bollocks.

Zygalski
12-06-2003, 12:24
Try it on someone else's PS2, whether it is chipped or modded in another way.
That way you will know whether it is the disk or the technique you are using.
Unfortunately none of my mates or anyone I know have their PS2 chipped or modded. I'm buggered. :(
Zygalski
12-06-2003, 13:29
Whereabouts are you located?
Maybe if you go to one of them tournaments someone there will be able to try it on their chipped PS2.
Edinburgh although I don't think I could be arsed going through all that bother anyway. I have emailed the place I bought the flip top lid and boot discs from, as it seems the dvd boot disc isn't working correctly anyway. It just loads up and brings me to a screen where I have a choice of the memory card or PS2 cd. I'll just wait and see.
Thanks anyway :)

I have read thru this thread and still don't knwo why no one has patched PES or PES2? There has been mention elsewhere that it isn't poss cos it's on DVD. But surely all you need is a DVDRW drive and the right apps? Just that I would like a patched version of PES2 and not have to fork out a gazillion pounds on an import PS2 and WE6:FE or WE7 mroe likely (although WE7 seems to have kit sponsors and the like?)
Zygalski
16-07-2003, 13:52
The coding of PES2 is different enough from WE6:FE to require a whole new patch specially made for it which people would have to understand before making.
Hopefully someone will sort it out on PES3.

Because it has been universally acknowledged that PES2 has an inferior game play engine to WE6FE. It is possible but then why have the capabilities to play backup copies and not play the "best".
DVD discs are encoded completely differently to CD's, meaning it is harder, in this case to patch them.
yeah but i hard if u want to copy dvd games you easily as they have no protection .

I downloaded a version of WE:FE IT Patch using a shareware program but the file came up as a .rar extention
does anybody know what i should do so that i can burn and play the game???
Zygalski
30-07-2003, 10:24
proexpert, you need to install Winrar to unrar (unzip) these rar files.
I think you can get Winrar from
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
(or search for it)
Most patches are in rar form so it's worth getting this program.
Also, I'd recommend you to download the patches from their sites rather than P2P as you may not know what people are sharing.
There's a good guide to all the patch sites in the Editing site.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Greetings from Norway!
I'm new to the world of patching, but not to WE/PES. Played the first WE on my SNES and it was a pro evolution already back then.
I have a few of the so called "newbie-q's":
- How can I get a copy of WE7? I would pretty much like to get my hands on WE7, because it looks fantastic and I can't stand to wait until November!
- I'm considering having a modchip installed: but there are so many to choose from - could someone recommend one to me?
I've also heard that chipping your PS2 could result in a
meltdown - the PS2 stops working because of the chip after a while. Is this true?
I'd appreciate the help..

Hi there.
Messiah 2 is a popular chip that gets a lot of praise.
There are a few pieces of chip advice in the Editing section.
If you choose, you can use an alternative method to chipping.
Or you could buy a pre-chipped PS2.
One example of where to order from is
www.thebarras.co.uk
Good service.
(funny sig! Money Island?)
Hi, Zyg and thanks for quick response!
I'll check'em out then.. what would you recommend that I'd do?
I've read some of your posts here in the forum - how come you know so much about WE7/PES3?
And yep, the sig is a quote from the Monkey Island-series. Glad you liked it! :D

If you want a cheaper, quick fix option to play imports, you can use Knife Trick, Slide Card or Flip Top lid (explained in the Editing section). But these all require a boot disk and some (knife) aren't exactly healthy for your PS2. But they are cheaper than a chip.
I would recommend to get your PS2 chipped or if you can afford it, buy a pre-chipped Messiah 2 (or a newer chip if there is one - I'm not sure) PS2. With these, you load imports as normal without the need for swapping disks which can be a hassle.
Jag87 can offer some advice on the matter too so maybe ask him (if he doesn't see this thread needs his assistance). Good luck with whichever option you go for.
I know about the game because there are several people playing a preview version of PES3 and WE7 and they are sharing info about it. I have played WE7 too. I am trying to get all the useful info from other people and letting people here know about it in a semi-organised way.... which isn't helped by people opening threads called just "we7"!!!
I might have to elaborate the first question:
what's your personal recommendation since there are different ways of getting your PS2 to play import? :(
oh, you replied..

I've got an original copy of Winning Eleven 7 And a Messiah chip in my PS2 but the game wont run on it, all that happens is the PS2 says Disk read error!

JP no.1 that sounds really bad man. Sorry. I don't know why it wouldn't work.
Firstly try cleaning the WE7 CD (wipe with a soft cloth in straight line motions from the centre to the edge) and use a CD-lens cleaner on your PS2. Try it again.
If it doesn't work, then try your WE7 on another chipped PS2. If it works, you'll know your PS2 is messed up and you should get it fixed (probably by whoever chipped it). And if the game doesn't work then you may have a damaged disk which may need to be replaced.
ansser, all CD drives can read CDs and DVDs.
I'm not sure what your problem is. Maybe try doing what you are trying after reseting your PC?
Good luck to the both of you.
hmm..i restarted and all and it still duznt work...ill go and ask sum1 wut the prb is...
Disk read error = ps2 R.I.P

yeah i agree, the messiah is much more reliable. my friends has his ps2 'messiahed' for about a year and its been cool.
i use a slide-card. works great. no modding except removing the little cover of your disc tray. and $30 at that.
so you like it then 700mb?
ok first post :D \o/ but anyway ive got a question. could someone please tell me the difference between the PES, WE, WE FE games? i know theyre all pretty similar gameplay wise and you can patch the WE FE edition but apart from that are the differences graphical, gameplay wise or up-to-date player stats? thx :)
PES in the european version of WE FE games are updated game of the previous WE. ie WE6FE and only come out in japan.

WE games generally require the playing of better football to do well rather than dribble-o-rama of PES2 which was too easy. WE players are slightly chubbier than those in PES. WE games are not as easy to play or score in as PES.
As WE7 is the latest version out, the squads are more up to date than in previous version. Once you play a patched WE game with kits etc, you won't want to play a PES game again.
so you like it then 700mb?
yea, the only downside is having to do a disc swap every time you start up the game.

ok thx to both who replied :)
ive had PES 2 since january and i think its great, if slightly flawed here and there with room for improvement. this is to anyone who has played both pes2 and we7. could you please tell me if the passing problem in PES2 where when you passed to a team mate running back towards his own goal the ball would go in the opposite direction has been fixed at all for we7? because this is what has annoyed me most about the series since i started playing it since pes1. thx :)
oh and are penalties still a case of pressing a direction and hoping the ball goes in with luck or is there some sort of skill to scoring from them? thx again :)
700mb, i'm wantin to get a slide card as it sounds easy to use and less trouble than chips, but i heard some rumour on this thread about it only acceptin 630mb discs and that cos of this it might not work for WE7 patched versions. can u re-assure me on this?
i have we7 and we6fe and use them both with the slide card. we6fe has an average bin size of 703mb. it works good for me.

Does depend on the game but I think it's slightly more the 630mbs, you would have to pack out the game and do some serious editing and regenerating before they stop booting on swap methods. As you are just playing the WE series it should be fine. It's just like cd-rw's and certain chipped ps2's :)
So u definately need a chipped PS2 to patch? And earlier sum 1 said "u need patching tools" can they define that a bit more?
No you don't need a chipped ps2 to play patched games. Slide card and Flip lid/top will both do the job.
Patching tools you can download, they are mostly free or you can get trials of some which you may or may not need depending on what you are actually modifying :)
....If you are going to buy flip-top lid and Swap Magic disks then buy them from www.wholesalemods.co.uk it is great service with free delivery wthin two days as well as the cheapest price around (£32.90!!!)

Flip top + boot disk + WE7 is all you need to play it.
If the foreign games come out in black & white you need to get a better quality scart cable. That's it.
Don't worry about copying those disks - I was just curious what they looked like.
Sorry if this sounds ignorant, but is a swap magic a boot disk??
Zygalski

Yes.
About mod-chips , are they easy to insert them ?
Were can I buy any ?
www.wholesalemods.co.uk
you may need to solder the modchip to your ps2 mainboard.
Is the Magic 3.6 chip good ?
How do I know which PS 2 Version I got ?
Sorry for this question, but I don't know it.

Hi i was thinking about buying we7 as i cannot stand the wait for pes3 but i am not sure if it will work.I have a modchip but i am not sure what version it is it plays ps1 games automatically but to play ps2 backups i need to use an action replay version 2 also i have only played backups for games as red faction 2 and klonoa 2.

It would be VERY useful if you would share with us the name of the chip you are using so we can try to figure it out. Cheers! :)
could it be a non solder mod?

Sorry do not know what type of chip it is as at the time i did not ask as i only thought there was one type the only info i can give is that it does not automatically play ps2 backups but surely since it can with an AR2 iit does not matter what game it is.Jag it was soldered in i know that for sure.Aha i have a Neo 2.2 sorry just found out will it work?
yeah it should work. if it works with a slide card it should work with your chip.

It does work with swap magic for definate. my m8 tried it and it works for him so it should be ok.

This can include putting a mod-chip in or getting a flip top lid from ps2case.com
this may sound like a stupid question but i honestly dnt know, where u get an x-port from
its been repeated many times tomo. check the general section about the x-port.
1. A copy of the game
2. The appropriate patch
3. Patching tools
4. Most importantly, you need to have a modified PS2. This can include putting a mod-chip in or getting a flip top lid from ps2case.com
I'm consider buying WE7 instead of PES3 because of the patching thing, but I have some questions... I'm a newbie of this!
I live in Sweden, where do you guys recomend me to buy WE7?
Is PlayAsia.com the cheapest place?
To play patched games you will need:
1. A copy of the game
Ok, so if I import WE7 do I only need to make a copy of my game with my CD-burner on the computer?
My Playstation is not patched so I wonder how much I will have to pay??
The game (including shipping cost)
The modification of my PS2, I haven't done that yet.
At last, thanks for a great forum!

Yes, you use the original to make patched copies.
As shown at:

Information overload! Off to have a drink!
Thanks!
Ok, I hope I got this rigth.
With X-port I can get the real player names and team names by transfering an option file that I download from the web to my computer. Do I also use an option file to get updated player transfers?
Patches are used for getting the game in English, changing team kits, grapichs and audio effects. What will be the basic patches, that most people will use? What do they do? Will there be a place on this forum where I easily can find the most important and neccesary patches?
I read something about the Slide Card, but I can't understand how I shall use it when I get it!
Allright, I'm about to order the following things now:
--> X-port
--> Slide Card
--> WE7
Anything else I will need??? I have heard something about the RGB-cable, where do I get that? I will get alot of packages soon!
Thank you for helping me out! :)
Zygalski
18-08-2003, 17:44
Freddie, you've got it all correct there! Nice one.
Most of the option files will definitely include transfers as well as corrected formations and lineups.
Downloaded option files include everything that is editable in the game.
You can check out what was on the past patches for WE6:FE in the editing section:
http://forum.pesinsight.com/showthread.php?t=1366
Check out some of the links to the patches to see what they include. You can find out a lot from the pics.
Patches can include what you mentioned as well as real advertising boards (Ford, Coke, Playstation, Amstel, McDonalds etc) and new designs for balls and menus.
Since WE7 just came out, there aren't many patches available yet but when they do, you can expect the wedoit group to make some similar to the WE6:FE wedoit ones which are great (a little bit of Michelle Branch excepted... ;) ).
You will probably need a new cable to play foreign games. The one the PS2 comes with definitely doesn't work - it shows games in black & white.
There is a great cable available at
http://www.thebarras.co.uk/shop.htm
second item down.
Jag will advise you about the Slide Card as he is "Da Sliding Man".
But the rest of your list is correct and you will be sorted to play the game soon.
Keep checking the Editing section for the latest news on patches.
should i apply the patches available now or is there something better coming soon? (isn't there always?)
what exactly do these do?

jag, he wants to know how to use the Slide Card.
Slide away.....
you have to remove the front of your disc tray so your slide card can get access to the cog which releases the disc tray. you put in your desired bootdisk. swap magic preferably. you wait until it says insert disk. you then put in slide card, push the card to the right and the tray should become loose. you pull it out with the card. you swap the disks around (put in your backup) and push the tray backin with your hand. you put the card back in and catch the cog with your slide card and bring it back to the left with alittle slide, if ouve done it right, you'll hear the tray if youve done it right. you press x and whalla.

the patch you are trying - what is the file extension?
.what (dot-what)?

Thank you jag87 and Zygalski. I will cut and paste your explanation so I can use it when I get the slide card, hopefully It will make sence then, right now I'm very confused  I guess I will get an instruction guide with the slide card, otherwise you will probably here me scream soon :p

Thanks again! Have you guys patched your WE7 yet? I mean it will be like mission impossible with everything in Japanese, how is the possibility to survive that? I know that it will be a patch soon, and an option file, anyone who know when and where it will be released?
Zygalski, could you inform me if the PS2 can read CD-RW or just CD-R ?
I want to write the WE7 to a CD-RW but I do not know if it will play.
From what I have heard it will only work with cd-r
Zygalski
19-08-2003, 10:03
Yes. Best not to use CD-RWs as they don't work for some reason. Get those CD-Rs ordered!
Mostly the game in Jap is difficult to start with but most of us know what we're doing, like we all do for PES2 - not reading the headings and just clicking.
Never can tell with release dates for patches. Apparently there is a big problem trying to find out where the files for ML translations are as it isn't working for the patching people so far.
Hopefully both the patch and option file will be ready this week sometime
What tools do I need to patch the game? There are a lot of tools out there! Hmm. Does each tool handle different patches or is it possible to handle all patching with one tool?
Zygalski
19-08-2003, 11:47
ppf-o-matic is basically what you need mostly.
Worth getting versions 2 and 3 I think.
I got version 3, why should I get version 2 also???
Even more questions: It seems like many different people are making patches and option files. Which one will be the real "option file" and which patch will the most people get? A complete patch...
Zygalski
19-08-2003, 12:20
Sometimes 3 doesn't look like it's doing anything wheras 2 does. It's just a suggestion. Probably makes not much difference.
i just bought Swap Magic 2.0 disks and a slide card will these work fine with WE7? thx :)
Zygalski

Should be fine.

21-08-2003, 00:03
I just read throug this whole tread and one thing concerns me, its the questions and answers about the knife trick, slidecart en no solder chips.
I know some of you guys have these kind of chips and you will say it works fine. I know for sure its not good to use those chips even if they will safe you some bucks coz in the end it will cost you alot of bucks. These chips will damage youre laser of the ps2 maybe not in a week or a month but eventually they do.
So my advice is to get a good modchip like a messiah 2 or blue magic or the matrix chip it will cost more but it will spare you a damaged laser.
I tried to patch my WE7 yesterday.
made an image from original, used ppf-o-matic, burned it with nero express 4x speed...
the patch was 2Die4U 0.852 Fixed.
When i put cd in ps2 recognizes it as a ps2 disc and starts to load(?), but soon it comes back to browser menu.
What´s wrong? This was my first patch ever so I´m not really sure have I done all ok.
Got also Redhot-Chapman Mixed Patch v2.1. Is it better than 2Die4U thing?
Noonster19
21-08-2003, 08:58
Yeah I believe the RedHot v2.1 patch is better than the 2die4 patch as it mixes a few patches togething including that one. If that makes sence....
I make a .bin file using CDRwin at 1x then patched with ppf o-matic then recorded it to disk using CDRwin at 2x and it works fine mate.... so you might wanna try that.
Zygalski
21-08-2003, 09:05
With Nero, you have to make sure you burn as an image. Can't think of anything else that could be different.
Ok, thanx. I´ll burn that redhot patch later today with cd-r win. I´m trying to be careful, hope it works better this time!
can´t wait to get that ultimate patch!
neither can i andy81. go over to evo-wev for some patch previews.

Fellas - I have downloaded the red hot patch but unlike the others I have successfully completed this one takes forever. I know its dependent on size but its been running for 15 minutes now - anyone else had any luck with it? cheers
I'm a little bit confused about this patching/x-port file making.
I'm probably going to wait until the wendetta or wedoit patch are released before I will patch my game. If I get a complete patch of one of these will I still need an x-port file? Like the one Kezman and co are working on?
Noonster19
21-08-2003, 21:06
audster - I patched the game with the redhot v2.1 patch, no probs at all and plays fine.
Just made a CD image (BIN/CUE) with CDRwin on x1, then patched it using ppf omatic then recorded it to disk using CDRwin at x2 and it worked first time no probs at all.
Noonster19
21-08-2003, 21:09
Freddie - the idea of using the patch wil update the game with english menus and all player names, also ad boards and things like that.
The idea of the X-Port option file is so you can have all the players proper names and its usually updated with the latest transfers..... ie... beckham a real / veron at chelsea etc.....
Hope that cleared that up for you??
Yes I guess it did, thanks noonster!

Hello WEmaniacs! I got WE7 yesterday but I still haven't got my Slide Card so I'm not able to check out the game yet, how frustrating!
Anyway, I wonder if anyone else here has ordered the Slide Card from modchip.com? I ordered the game tuesday this week and paid with credit card, but I haven't got any kind of confirmation of my order yet! Well I hope everything is all right and I get it next week! If you have any experience of modchip.com's online store please tell me, so I can sleep good the following nights before I get hold of it ;)

Now I did image to and burnt it with CDRWIN - redhot patch works! :p
So I think nero sucks in these things.. Earlier I also got some validation error/notification using ppf-o-matic with redhot patch. Now it was gone. Maybe that was the key.
Nero worked for me ok. Andy81, did you have a cuesheet for the game?

You probably will be able to continue your ML after using a patch but some players may have been swapped around to other teams - based on transfers and whether or not you transferred them too.
Your ML will load and work fine but a few players could be different, that's all.

Which is more reliable for playing patches? A flip lid or a slide card?
Zygalski
26-08-2003, 14:22
Many people use both. Both sets of people would recommend their technique. I use a chip but if I had to choose between the two of those I would go for a flip top.
the only thing about the flip top is that you have to open up your system to fit it....slide card you don't...I use the slide card, and it works fine if you do everything carefully and take your time
The slide card is a genius idea isn't! its superb and works each time.

Even patched versions?
You would really have to put it through its paces, I assume you've never patched pes or we before. So I highly doubt the patching you do would interfere. Regular "out of the box" patches will be fine, trust me, i'm a doctor. ;)

A patch will work fine for the game it was made for. Best current patch for WE7 is Chapman/Redhot V 2.2 which needs to be uncompressed to be made into a .ppf.
Grab the We7 bin and the .ppf and use ppf-o-matic to apply the patch. Then you burn the new image. Done.
We should all listen to mikeom1 as he knows what he's talking about. But he's wrong about being a doctor

Read this thread again and then the X-Port Info thread.
*X-Port is not for patches*
It is only for memory card files. Like option files which have only been edited using the in-game editor. Patching is a whole different thing which involves burning CDs.
