I heard this idea on MOTD, and I personally think its a pretty good idea. Its an added incentive for teams outside the top 4 to win the FA cup, and lets face it, it will be the only opportunity for some teams in the Premiership to play in the Champions League. That top 4 isnt going to change for a long, long time, can you really see teams like Middlesbrough, Fulham, Man City, Aston Villa and many others reaching a top 4 spot? Winning the FA cup will be there only chance and they will take it more seriously and bring bigger crowds to FA cup matches. What do you all think?

I think this would probably be a good idea, but how many of those teams could cope with European games the next season? It might also be a fast track to a relegation battle.

No winners of the FA Cup outside the top four for the last 12 seasons so that wouldn't make much of a difference since these winners usually have also qualified for the Champions League, either directly or through finishing 3rd or 4th. One big team might be shocked on the way to the final, but at least two will make ths semis.

Not a good idea IMO mate, just cheapens the Champion's League even more.
This would mean that clubs from the other big leagues will have to be included when they win their domestic cups too. (England, Spain, Italy & Germany)

I can see where you're coming from though, but just imagine if the impossible happened and Plymouth won the FA Cup, Greenegg would be even harder to shut up. :D

Keep the domestic cup winners in the UEFA cup or bring back the Cup Winners Cup.

Definitely Maybe

The runners up take the Uefa Cup place anyway if the winner has already qualified for Europe.

they do that in Brazil.. the Copa Do Brasil is known as the shortcut to the Copa Libertadores ( the champion's league of S America)

Not a good idea because then the big boy's would just strengthen their hold on the cup! Now teams have a chance because they do like to rotate for cup games!

Absolutely shocking idea. A cup game is 90 minutes, a league season is 38 games long.

You can't possibly justify winning a bunch of one-off games as a good reason for giving the cup a CL place.

What Stella said.

Look at Plymouth, hardly had any competion and if somehow they were to go on to win it you're saying they should get a Champions League space? Wasted as much as it was on Everton a couple of seasons back.

No team outside the top 4 is going to win the F.A. Cup anyway.

Lol the other teams just are not good enough whether you give the FA cup a CL place or not do you think a team outside the top 4 could win it!

No !

Last team to win apart from the top 4 was Everton 95 even then they beat Man Utd in the final 1-0 then you have to go back to 91 cant say the name but they are scum and play in a shithole

Exactly the teams outside the top 4 are just not good enough unlike in Spain where you can have a final in the cup of Zaragoza and Espanyol!

And I am tired of the whole money issue because Arsenal have hardly spent any money especially compared to the other 3!

Man Utd 7

Arsenal 5

Liverpool 5

Spurs 3

Chelsea 2

Everton 2

Wimbeldon 1

Coventry 1

West Ham 1

so it wont change a thing if the FA CUP gets C.L. spot

Yes my point exactly the rest of the teams in the Premiership are just rubbish. I respected Wigan weekend before last for coming to the emirates and having a go even though they lost! But they didn't have the quality to see it out! The FA cup winner is likely to come from Chelsea Man U or Arsenal!

I agree with Stella.

If Platini implements his proposed Champions League quotas, and the team that wins the F.A. Cup is outside The Premiership top three, then the third place team's effort across 38 games, goes unrewarded.

Even worse, say Accrington Stanley win the F.A. Cup (which would actually be brilliant), then only two sides would qualify from The Premiership. Forgive me for being elitist, but that would be horrible for the top tier of Premiership teams, while giving us all some crap European games to watch as Stanley are hammered 10-0 at home by Lille.

indeed..with the FA Cup winners being granted a Champ's League spot, regardless of whether the top four have been winning it for ages, it still permits one of the teams who busted their asses for 38 games, not to win the league but to hold a CL spot down, and their work goes unrewarded. Even if my City were to win the FA Cup i doubt we have the squad capable of competing over two legs without getting spanked. And the fact that other countries would want this rule implimented into their leagues as well would only further complicate the Champions League and add more teams, (teams who most would say are there for a laugh) and then just have a round of complete little pick up games for the bigger clubs who would just run wild...IMO kinda a bad idea. Would take away from some hard working deserving clubs and grant the an delicacy to a team who possibly wouldn't be able to hold their own in the bigger competition:(

well, uefa cup is pretty good for the fa cup winners as champions league is a big ask for clubs like millwall to play in. they couldn't even meet the standards of uefa cup, so champs league? not at all...

instead i would llike to see the uefa cup winners be awarded a place in the champs league. they are the winners of level 2 european clubs, so it will be good to give them the place instead... and if the fa cup winners go all the way in uefa cup, they will be in the champs league eventually if my idea is heard...

Exactly. To be honest, I think the Champions League qualifying places should be reduced from four for the big countries. Two would be a good number, and then more countries would be represented. It would also mean that some big teams would miss out on the big money and even out domestic competition. It'll never happen like, but a man can dream.

The reason I think they will never go back to 2 teams from the big 4 is down to one thing

MONEY

The reason there is so much money in the C.L. is due to T.V. & sponsorship do you think that they will still pump in 100 of millions of pounds in, to show the best team form Estiona and a like ?

The answer is NO they wont. Thats why we have 4 teams from 4 countreis cause they have the most money (countries with spendable money) .

Lets say you have just 2 from the big 4 then there may not be no Arsenal v Real in the future or Roma v Liverpool etc.

When its all said and done only the Champions should play in it, but we have gone past that now !

The whole game is about money
