PS2s r pretty cheap now. Couldn't you scrape enough together to get one (even 2nd hand?)

May be worth considering a pre-chipped PS2 for £200.

rebusrahman

Is that the cheapest for a custom nowadays?

Zygalski

Considering it includes free delivery and is guaranteed it's a good price.

rebusrahman

Now that's a bargain!

If you are interested in this offer, the palce I got it from was
www.thebarras.co.uk

I got mine in a special offer so there may be an extra £10 or so on it now.
It is a reliable and recommended service.

Great prices for mem cards, joypads and scart cables too.
I got a chipped PS2, mem card and 2 controllers for £240.

Chipped PS2s are not legal (just checking I'm not a policeman!) are they? And not condoned by Sony? How much is an import console?

I ask all this as I may be able to blag one and just want to see if Sony would shoot me if I asked.

Zygalski

I believe Sony would be strongly against chipped ones.
Do foreign ones work in UK?
What about power levels and plugs etc?
Let us know how much they are.

Thought so. Surely you could just use a power adapter/converter and do it that way? And they'll need 60hz but most new TVs do this.

I don't think you will be able to play European games on a Jap PS2 if you ever had to.
But on a chipped on, you can.
When you find out, tell us the postage of a PS2 from 'foreign' places.

rebusrahman

Already have a euro PS2 of course. So might try the blag to get a Jap only PS2 from Sony.

Zygalski

Hmmm.
Not sure how easy that will be to do.
Unless you have 'connections'

(Which an esteemed person like yourself probably does have!)

Working on it! Will let you know how it goes! If everything comes off then Sony are the last to fall.... ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Seriously though, this is all legit but Sony are notoriously stingy but I just wanted to check what their stance would be on chipped (I thought that what you said would be the case) PS2s. Didn't want to ask about them and then look really unprofessional! Anyway, will let you know when I do (prob not for a month yet...wheels within wheels an all that!)

What's the going rate of getting your PS2 chipped at the moment? As in, I have the PS2 and I want to get it chipped.

Or is there an easier way, such as buying the chip direct yourself from a delivery service (such as thebarras one) ???

*Nifty's baffled*

Zygalski

Last time I checked it was about:

£25-£50 for a chip,
£79-£120 to get it done (sometimes including price of chip),
around £210 for a pre-chipped PS2.

Depends where it's done and shipping may be extra.

Ouch! That's quite expensive but then having tasted WE6 I can understand the need for a chipped PS2!

I'd buy a chipped one or an import PS2, if at all.
